I saw you rb a SaiSaku post and was curious if you had any fanfic recs for this rarepair?!

Do I have?!!!!! I am currently binging this ship so you couldn't have asked this at better time.

This pair is not a crack ship! Crack would mean they have not shared more than two words with each other. But SaiSaku interactions always bordered on romance and best friends who don't act like it. Not only Sakura was the first person to acknowledge Sai had human side to him and bonded with him over his painting, Sai was also the only person outside Sasuke (in part 1) to be able tell her fake smiles and he always understood her feelings better than other characters. Had Sakura ever only cared for good looks (something she don't) then with Sai she'd get that and so much more.

I have always considered SaiSaku as the next best thing after NaruSaku. They had too much potential as a couple. I am not bitter that InoSai became a thing but looking at them I only feel that "Ino didn't get Sasuke so she get his look-alike." Besides, Sai gave people nicknames that are opposites to what actually feels about them – Naruto as Dickless, Sakura as Hag/Ugly and Ino as Beautiful – which makes it worse. Both Ino and Sai deserve better than this. If Kishi has shown them together more often or had interactions between them similar to SaiSaku then I can understand why Ino is his light. I guess it is also SP's fault for showing them in different light. For all SP hates Sakura, they enjoy messing up with her fans by feeding them false hope.

Whenever I want to read something hilarious but deep, SaiSaku is my to-go couple. Usually angsty, or full bout of insults and punches. There's no in between with them.

wanna play by the rules and entertain the idea of straight ships in Naruto?

I couldn't sleep so - apparently, yeah.

the only canon ship that makes sense is ShikaTema. like really. thats like my second best ship apart from SNS but if we consider the straight world - I'm gonna go with that one. they are so made for each other its not even funny its freaking adorable!!!! Shikamaru what-a-drag-women-amiright Nara x Temari I-like-dorks-who-I-can-dominate Sabaku is the power couple we deserve. and she is like the only married woman apart from Sakura who hasn't completely abandoned her work? she is an ambassador of Suna. right? or wait. was it just fanfiction? nevermind, she is a badass anyway.

I don't know about Karui and Choji... I mean, they are okay. maybe. I just have no idea how they could've ended up together. AT ALL.

moving on, there is SaiIno who I both adore to the depth of my heart and believe to be the low-key SNS. even though they don't make much sense too thanx to the plot, I do like them together. Ino always chased after Sasuke, but more cause everybody did... and honestly after all Sasuke has done you have to be a total idiot to still love him (I know two of those can you guess who). Sai - while looking similar - is handsome, smart and weird in his own way, and has this enigma fleur about him so I can totally see how he could have caught her attention, and she is a pretty girl who can kick ass and not afraid to stand up for herself, and if we entertain the idea that Sai has a thing for blonds after Naruto brought him out of his shell then maybe it makes even more sense. but what do I know...

I am really struggling to remember other ships (at least regarding rookie 9+3) so I'll just jump to the major ones I take issue with.

SasuSaku and NaruHina.

first of all - I don't hate these ships solely cause I like SNS. i honestly wouldn't ship them even in a completely straight word where no rainbow has ever appeared (that was lame but I am sleep deprived so back off wouldya).

they just DONT MATCH.

yeah Sakura was smitten with Sasuke and Hinata with Naruto for like... 700 episodes.

SO WHAT

that doesn't make them good couples. lemme explain why.

Sasuke is broken. okay? he.is.not.interested.in.family.

he doesn't connect with people. he can't! he broke the bond with Sakura when he left the village and that fragile shadow of it they established after the war is just not enough to build a relationship on. the only person he hasn't broken the bond with is Naruto and even relationship with him wouldn't be easy.

but we're in straight world, so I would assume he'd like to avoid human contact as a plague whatsoever. mb have a child or two to keep Uchiha bloodline, but no strings attached.

oh wait! sounds exactly like what he did.

hell, mb SasuSaku makes sense after all (SARCASM)

NaruHina is more likely.

but Hinata is so damn boring.

I mean... she isn't that boring. she is strong, relentless, stoic, brave and shit. but.so.boring.

Naruto would love playing house for a couple of years sure. cause he always wanted a family, yeah. but he also needs someone who can match him. at least on some level.

unfortunately, she cant.

she doesn't even seem to have a personality outside of Naruto. newsflash, that ain't healthy. I mean even though Sakura reduces to a blushing mess around Sasuke, she is pretty badass when he is not around.

Hinata is not. she could be! she damn well could be.

but she is not.

the only straight couple that makes sense out of these four is NaruSaku. yeah honestly. they have matching personalities, they would be a fun couple! both strong enough to not be consumed by each other, having a long history of friendship to support their love... even though they didn't have the best start, Sakura learnt to respect and like Naruto and he always adored her. their banter would keep things between them heated... damn, that's sorta even healthier than SNS in some ways.

but I really don't like that Sasuke is left out in this picture so I'd still go with SNS. Sakura can land any other guy.

or just bear Sasuke's child. that'll do nicely if she'd be satisfied with it.

but it doesn't seem likely.

so I'd leave her with Lee? or she can be alone. or InoSaku is pretty interesting but oh right thats a straight world. she could be with Sai though. but that leaves us eith a big issues of Ino being too good for any other guy out there so I am like really lost here.

Hinata would be okay with Kiba? probably. but I feel like Kiba needs somebody more... lively? though... they have been on the same team for a long time. I am pretty sure Kiba and Shino know her better than anybody else. so maybe... MAYBE Kiba would be a good match for her.

please don't ask me why I don't consider Shino cause honestly the guy is just a big buggy enigma for me I can't really imagine with anybody.

My Top 10 Worst Dumbest Anime Relationships (My Opinion)

1. Inuyasha and Kagome Higurashi (Inuyasha)

Kagome is nothing but a whiny, manipulative woman-child who really has to get everything her way and always has to be in the RIGHT especially when it comes to InuYasha who at some times would point out the obvious to her and instead of taking it in strides and realizing her mistake she would unfairly make him SIT with those stupid beads around his neck. Also, InuYasha at the time was going through some serious personal, emotional issues of his own and trying to face the ghosts of his past and dealing with his former lover Kikyo being resurrected against her will. Kagome always tried to make it about herself when it came to that scenario with them and was always able to get the others to feel sorry for her. So yeah, it's not only her attitude (and her uselessness) but her treatment towards InuYasha which is something else that I have come to notice when you go back to watch it again is that those two can't get along very well and they can't seem to go almost a single day or even a week without bickering with each other and most of the time it's over the same stupid stuff.

2. Sasuke Uchiha and Sakura Haruno (Naruto)

I love Sasuke and after all he's been through I think he deserves better. I think I would have been okay if he ended up with Ino. It still would have been bad but atleast it's better? I don't know. I just don't like the fact that in the beginning Sasuke hated Sakura and payed no attention to her whatsoever. But all of a sudden in Boruto (It autocorrected to burrito ) they get married. It just doesn't seem right. In Naruto The Last they showed him in the desert walking around and stuff while Naruto and Hinata were having the whole movie dedicated to their romance. It's no secret that Sakura has been in love with Sasuke for a long time. It was even a dream come true for Sakura when the two were put on the same team together, but from day one the romance between them has always been one-sided. Sasuke originally had little to no interest in Sakura. Even after she admitted her feelings in tears, Sasuke seemed to care very little about her.It continued this way even after Sasuke attempted to kill Sakura and yet despite that, the two eventually got married and had a child. Unfortunately for poor Sakura, Sasuke is a bit of a deadbeat who's rarely ever home to be around his wife or daughter. If their relationship has proven anything, it's that Sakura has the patience of a saint

3. Gray Fullbuster and Juvia Lockser (Fairy Tail)

Juvia's attitude is also disgusting. During GMG, she fantasized about how good it would be if the Fairy Tail GMG Team had an injured member, that way she can be with Gray. Not funny. I didn't laugh and I didn't see anything funny. Then, Lucy did get injured at some point and she ran over and "acted" like she "could" help. Pathetic. She couldn't do anything and she acted as if she cared when she treated Lucy bad all the times that she has. Disgusting.....

4. Ichigo Kousaki and Orihime Inoue (Bleach)

Her feelings were never the slightest bit disturbing. Instead, her love was shown to be unconditional and incredibly selfless, to the point that Ichigo is the one to pursue Orihime in the end without her ever having to confess first. There was no pressure or obligation there; she was never “trying” to get Ichigo to fall in love with her—he just did. Just like that. People just tried to twist her feelings into something negative because they didn’t want her to have feelings for Ichigo, because she wasn’t the girl they shipped him with.

5. Goku and Chichi (Dragon Ball)

Maybe this one was doomed from the start, considering Goku thought marriage was a kind of food at first. Goku may be DBZ's most powerful warrior, but his skills as a husband and family man could use work. Goku's mind is focused solely on fighting and getting stronger, which leaves little time for things like spending time with his family or getting a job to support them. It's not that he doesn't care for them, it's more that he doesn't understand that they need him on a personal level. On the other side of things, Chichi's high expectations of Goku cause her to often lash out when she feels he's not doing his part. Between Goku's naïve, free spirit and Chichi's angry outbursts, it's clear they're just not compatible. It says something when even someone like Vegeta somehow makes it work with Bulma.

6. Kirino Kousaka and Kyousuke Kousaka (Oreimo)

There's absolutely no reason why these two should even be together. Kyousuke and Kirino have no chemistry. In fact, most of their interactions are just arguments and verbal abuse. Yet somehow, even though there were many girls that surrounded Kyousuke that would make for a better romantic interest, he ultimately chooses to be with Kirino for seemingly little reason. Already it's a bad Tsundere romance, but addressing the elephant in the room makes this go from uncomfortable to extremely icky. They're also brother and sister.

7. Yuki and Yuno (Future Diary)

Yuno is a token Yandere character, which means she can be sweet one second and then utterly psychopathic the next. She is obsessed with the anime's main character, Yuki. Yuki does not have the same feelings towards her but decides to manipulate her to his advantage since she is smarter and stronger than him in combat. Due to Yuki's fear and needing Yuna to protect him; he endures being drugged and kidnapped by Yuna and her attempts to kill his friends. He even continues to follow through after discovering that she killed her own parents.

8. Natsu Dragneel and Lucy Heartfilia (Fairy Tail)

Natsu and Lucy are supposed to be the two main protagonists. Now, I’m not saying that the two main protagonists can’t be together! What I’m saying is after seeing it so much in different anime’s and manga... It just gets a little old, and kinda boring. Just because they’re the two main characters doesn’t mean they HAVE to be together. That really doesn’t make sense. Lucy has told Natsu many many many many many times to not invade her privacy. Not to touch her in certain places. And what does Natsu do? Exactly that. Every. Single. Time.Invasion of privacy, breaking and entering, unwanted touching. That is not romantic in the slightest. It’s more harassment if anything. Natsu does not respect Lucy. I see him respecting Lissanna, Erza, Juvia, Levy... But not Lucy.“Oh, but Gray has done it before!!1!2!” Yes, but he only did it once, Lucy told him not to, and he never did it again.Not only that, but Lucy yells and Lucy kicks him over and over again. You’d think it would’ve stopped the first time around. But no.You see... Lucy needs someone who is mature, someone who would respect her wishes, and someone she can handle being in a romantic relationship with... That someone’s not Natsu Dragneel.For Natsu, he needs someone who knows how to handle him, someone who understands him, and someone who accapts Natsu for who he is and doesn’t get at him for just being himself... That someone’s not Lucy Heartfillia.

9. Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga (Naruto)

I hate NaruHina for a number of reasons. I hate the idea that when there is a threesome of main characters that the main guy can’t be with the main girl! The same nonsense happened in Harry Potter and it is just utterly annoying. Then there is this big idea that NaruHina and SasuSaku are "canon" when they are not. Canon is defined, usually as something that happened, is it not? That makes the ONLY Naruto canon couplings Minato/Kushina and Asuma/Kurenai. Naruto and Hinata have nothing in common. Fans of the couple claim that she “loves” him. She even said so! *gasp* So did Sakura, and Sasuke proceeded to knock her ass out and leave Konoha forever. Have any of these fans ever read a shojo comic? How many love confessions are unrequited? Hell, even may shonen comics have many confessions of unrequited love; look at ANY harem-style comic like Love Hina or Gacha Gacha! Shonen or not, Naruto does not follow any type of formula where every confession of love, however rare, is returned. Naruto is a strong person, but a submissive personality. At least I think so. Hinata is much to tame for him. She would not be able to curb him. He needs a girl like Sakura or Temari who is rough and has no qualms about smacking him back into place. At least when Sakura is with Naruto, she acts like herself instead of a blubbering fangirl.

10. Louise Francoise Le Blanc De La Valliere And Saito Hiraga – The Familiar Of Zero

Louise and Saito are probably one of the most infamous examples of a Tsundere romance. After accidentally summoning Saito to her world from Japan, Louise makes the poor boy her familiar and proceeds to verbally and physically abuse him for any little thing.

Even though he's very clearly a human, Louise treats Saito more like an animal. Eventually, the two begin a relationship, even though nothing really changes in their relationship. Why they decide to stay together is a complete mystery, since their relationship feels both disingenuous and neither side does anything to earn the other's affection.

Sakura accepted her boyfriend had to be bad at something, but why did it have to be that?

When Sakura was a child she was certain that there was nothing Uchiha Sasuke couldn't do.

It was a reasonable assumption to make, as she then only knew him as a boy her age who was good at throwing shuriken and looking cute while doing so, which was all most little girls in her village needed to develop a crush.

As the years progressed and they were assigned to the same team she found out Sasuke was good at many other things: He was good at all things ninja, even teamwork when he put his mind to it; He was good at managing his time to maximize the efficiency of his training regimen; He was good at using both hands to perform any task; He was good at winding up Naruto; He was good at cooking and cleaning; He was good at protecting his teammates even when it put his life on the line; He was good at making her heart beat faster; He was good at being hard to reach; He was good at saving the world; He was good at making bad, no good, terrible, horrible choices; He was good at making her forgive him for the aforementioned horrible choices; And he was good at walking away from her, then coming back, then walking away again, in a cycle she still didn't really understand.

Sasuke could do most things well on the first try, and when he couldn't his determination would invariably lead him to work hard to master any skill he thought was worth his while.

That is, except for kissing.

Uchiha Sasuke was really bad at kissing.

Oh, god, he was so bad at kissing!

He could manage a peck or two just fine, but whenever light touches would develop into full-blown snogging, Sakura had to wonder just what the hell was wrong with him.

It wasn't as if he hadn't tried to improve: When Sakura first told him about this issue he was undisturbed, listening to her advice and taking her pointers to the best of his ability – which they soon discovered was nonexistent. They spent a good portion of the following week making out with some regularity to no effect before she got tired of having her entire face covered in saliva and decided they needed some help.

They began searching for tips in magazines, studying the technique of couples in movies (and once in real life, but that hadn't turned out well), and Sakura had even casually brought up the topic to her parents and friends. Sasuke couldn't do the same, both because his parents were dead, and because there was just no way he could talk about kissing and make it sound casual. One problem with being known as a cool, badass, silent anti-hero type is that it seriously limits the number of acceptable topics of conversation you can choose from while maintaining street cred.

Their efforts were all for naught, though, because the last Uchiha seemed unable to grasp the minutiae of the delicate art of sucking face.

Sakura didn't understand why her boyfriend couldn't learn how to kiss. It wasn't as if her was bad at other aspects of romance. When he was in a mood to woo her (which admittedly wasn't very often) he could muster surprising gestures of affection and say the sweetest things, he could cuddle like what Sakura imagined a professional cuddler would cuddle like, and he certainly knew how to use his tongue in other ways, but she just didn't want it anywhere near her mouth.

Despite the zero percent rate of success they'd had so far Sasuke still insisted on trying again and again. She wondered if he did it because he genuinely liked kissing her that much or if he was just too embarrassed to give up. Both scenarios seemed equally implausible, as did his insistence to cover her entire mouth with his (really, she'd told him multiple times that nobody liked that) whenever the opportunity presented itself, and yet there they were.

Of course, Sakura loved him and would kiss him all day long if he really wanted it, but she couldn't help wondering if that was really the case. He was notoriously undemonstrative, and she suspected she was the only living person who could hug him out of the blue without getting socked in the Sasuke was doing this just because he wanted to please her she had to tell him he didn't have to go through such lengths, because she was satisfied with the physical intimacy they already shared. She didn't want him to feel inadequate because he was bad at something as inconsequential as frenching. She also didn't want to endure Sasuke's mutant tongue needlessly, but that was of secondary importance.

"Sasuke-kun," she began one night, after she'd wiped the evidence of their last practice session from her cheeks "I need to ask you something."

He hesitated, then nodded. Even if Sakura didn't know him well enough to notice that there was something wrong, his blushing cheeks were a dead giveaway.

"So, um… you know we don't have to do this if you don't want to, right?"

That seemed to startle him.

"Do you want to stop?"

"No, that's not-" she paused, unsure of how to proceed "It's just… If you don't want to make out as often it's fine by me, because I'm happy with the other things we do. So, if you want to stop, then..."

Sakura was starting to regret speaking about it. She hadn't seen Sasuke look this nervous in years, clenching his fists and looking away, so she knew whatever it was he was thinking about brought him no small amount of embarrassment.

"Only if you want to, of course!" she amended quickly.

Sasuke opened his mouth, then closed it, then repeated the same movement a few more times, still avoiding her eyes.

"I- I do like it," he spoke at last, and Sakura was momentarily floored by the effort he had to make to say those four words, until she remembered he still had difficulty opening up, to her or anybody else. He seemed to consider an admittance of enjoyment to be the same as an admittance of weakness.

Fine, so there were two things her boyfriend was bad at.

"But," he continued "I know I'm not any good at it, and I understand if you want to keep kissing to a minimum."

"No, Sasuke-kun!" she protested – more energetically than she would've expected under the circumstances – and touched his cheek to make sure he'd look her in the eyes and see what she felt "I'm happy. At first neither of us had any idea what we were doing, remember? I was just happy to be together, and I still am. I like kissing you, alright? I really do." And she was being honest, if only because she liked him.

There was only the tiniest change to his expression – a softening of the eyes, a relaxation of the jaw – but Sakura had grown familiar enough to interpret those signs and know she had placated his doubts.

"Besides, if we keep practicing you're bound to get better sooner or later!"

Sasuke never got any better at kissing. Neither the time they spent traveling the shinobi world, nor having a daughter together, nor years of marriage improved his technique, but Sakura didn't mind.

Back when she was a girl and thought he was perfect, when she used to fantasize about marrying him, she pictured a relationship of passion, of flowers and chocolate, or compliments that would make her blush, and kisses that would certainly be good and make everyone else impressed and jealous of their love. She couldn't have fathomed how different things would be, much less how her adult-self would be happier like this.

Her husband's spontaneous demonstrations of affection were discreet, gentle, tentative, as if she'd evaporate from his touch otherwise. He rarely bought her presents, but she couldn't imagine a greater gift than the blind trust he placed on her as a kunoichi, a medic, the mother of his child. He didn't write her poetry, but he listened to and considered everything she said, no topic of conversation being judged as unimportant, even if he didn't really care about redecorating the living room or the birthday party Ino threw for her son. His kisses didn't make anyone envious, but Sakura was always glad to receive them, because they were his.

Sasuke was utterly hopeless when it came to kissing, but Sakura wasn't going to complain. She loved that man, shoddy osculation skills and all.

According to that, it worked fine. And about sasusaku and zutara being similar, their similarities just end at aesthetics only. Don't get me wrong, I ship sasusaku hard and perhaps might have ship zutara if the show was stretched, but Zutara is actually pretty dark. There's just too much rift that needs to be ....

cleared that the 100 year war brought. Then differences in lifestyle like Zuko belonging from the imperial lifestyle while Katara coming from tribal land. That wouldn’t have fit well. And the bond; Sasuke and Sakura knew each other since childhood. They shared the happier times. That wasn’t the case with Zutara. They started off pretty bad to the point that Zuko ended up nearly killing Aang. The piece you wrote was certainly enlightening and very informative but to compare Sasusaku with Zutara

Side characters don’t count like that. That said, I did account for Mai, as she is the ‘damaged’ and ‘woman of inferior morals’ that the ‘damaged’ Zuko deserves. This is similar to if Sasuke had ended up with Karin. Basically, the men need to be ‘good enough’ for the girl, if they’re not the paragon of virtue (the hero), they get a woman who isn’t as ‘good’ as the heroine. This obviously doesn’t really apply in a canon that lacks ‘good guy hero, good girl heroine, bad boy rival/support’ element, but you can see it even in unlikely places, such as X-Men (Scott will always get Jean in the end because he’s the boyscout, while Logan is the bad boy whose love will never measure up to Scott’s, due to his looser morals).

As for Katara loving Aang… e h h. She falls squarely in the ‘hero earns her love by being a good hero’ square. As Aang hits checkpoints of strength or advances on his hero’s journey, Katara has moments of ‘oh no he’s hot’ or similar. This culminates in him confronting her about his feelings right before the end of the series and her rejecting him on the basis of being ‘confused’. Cue finale, where Aang completes his journey and saves the world. Katara immediately seeks him out and kisses him, resolving her confusion offscreen. Conclusion: her confusion was settled because he completed the prerequisites to unlock her ending.

As for Zutara being darker than Sasusaku…once again… e h h.

I can’t really presume to argue with authority against someone who actually knows the fandom, but I’m going to say what I know of it anyway, and if I’m wrong you or others can correct me.

1- Zuko and Katara are not 100 years old, therefore you cannot project the tensions of the entire war on their relationship and simply say it can’t work under those pretenses. It’s an unfair measurement they appear to overcome in the course of their on-screen relationship anyway.

1b- Sakura is a hardcore village loyalist who is never given any reason to question the Leaf dammit kishimoto and Sasuke views - not completely incorrectly - the village as collectively at fault for the total massacre of his family. While he does change his perspective to ‘the shinobi system as a whole is at fault’, the reason they end up on opposite sides for a while is an extremely personal trauma to Sasuke, and part of the hatred and oppression of the Uchiha that stretched back to the village’s founding.

2- Zuko being royalty and Katara being tribal doesn’t appear to be a real concern? Do they often butt heads and find themselves incompatible with each other due to this difference of raising? Even if so, would this reasoning not equally apply to Kataang, as Katara comes from a hunting and gathering tribal system, while Aang comes from a peaceful and serene temple monk lifestyle?

2b- If we consider different raising to be important, then we have to consider the differences between Sasuke and Sakura’s raising. Sasuke is essentially the younger prince of the Uchiha and a genius, with incredible talent that everyone (except his father, at least by his perception) believes means he will OF COURSE end up with some legendary or amazing status…until he’s seven, when his beloved older brother inexplicably goes insane, murders the entire clan including their parents, then forces Sasuke to live through watching those murders repeatedly before abandoning him because he’s ‘not worth killing’. He then lives in his empty home where his parents died, all alone, from that point until joining Team 7. Sakura, on the other hand, has completely normal and unremarkable parents no one knows or cares about. She’s bullied as a child because her forehead is big and she’s timid, until Ino befriends her and teaches her to be tough. For the most part, Sakura doesn’t really have a traumatic childhood like Sasuke does, and she doesn’t truly understand the isolation and pain he suffers until he leaves. When it comes to different backstories, they have quite a rift.

3 - It’s true, they do start out as enemies, but Sasuke and Sakura become enemies, and I don’t know if Zuko and Katara are ever seconds away from outright killing each other and need intervention. I don’t deny that Sasuke and Sakura have a deeper bond to begin with, but there is certainly plenty of angst and hostility between them during the time that they are enemies, despite the fact that both of them love each other and are suppressing it.

4 - Does Zuko almost kill Aang to the tune of puncturing his lung with his fist and leaving him to bleed out, almost call down a giant lightning storm to kill him, poison him almost to death, or get into such a brutal and long lasting beat down that he blows off Aang’s arm and then nearly kills him through sheer exhaustion and (again) blood loss? I legitimately don’t know the answer to this. However, if the answer is no, I don’t think Zuko ‘almost killed’ Aang as hard as Sasuke ‘almost killed’ Naruto. Therefore, this shouldn’t count as a point against him in a debate over whether Zutara is darker than Sasusaku.

Now, I’m not saying that one is better than the other. I’m not saying they’re identical. My only point here, really, is to show that at least from what I can see…Zutara is not particularly darker than Sasusaku. Yes, Zuko and Katara began as enemies and Sasuke and Sakura didn’t, no Sasuke didn’t ever kidnap her and had to be deeply provoked to try to kill her, but considering how much time is dedicated to moving Katara and Zuko to a point where their relationship has grown beyond that (even as platonic friends, the point still remains the same), I don’t see the reason to hold it against them.

I also said in the post itself that they aren’t identical, merely that they ‘have the same energy’ and that there are some direct parallels between them, so that it’s close enough to make this observation.

Your second ask seems to end abruptly, like there should be a third, but I don’t see one and I have waited a bit to be sure.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong on any Zuko and Katara points, but from what I have seen, addressing your specific points, I don’t see the rift between the ships that you do, and would be surprised to find anyone who strongly OTPs Sasusaku and Kataang and NOTPs Narusaku and Zutara.

When I started shipping them: About 12 years ago upon reading a threesome fic I have never been able to find again.

My thoughts: They are each incomplete people who each make up for what the other two lack. They are a thousand times better together than they are apart, and they have a sort of underlying bond that ensures they can never truly escape one another, even if they want to do so.

What makes me happy about them: They are an incredible team bar none, and there were clear bonds between them that extended beyond their dissolution.

What makes me sad about them: Everything canon about their lives.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Focusing on the most insipid aspects of their personalities and flaws, and making them each a caricature of what they are supposed to be instead of letting them be three-dimensional characters with true depth.

Things I look for in fanfic: It EXISTING. Seriously. There is so little that I could cry.

My wishlist: Not sure what this means, but any content other than mine, be it fic or fanart, would be an absolute delight to find

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Tsunade with Dan or Mei Terumi. Jiraiya I think would never be able to settle down otherwise. Orochimaru…with Sakumo or science.

My happily ever after for them: That they never fell apart, and end up all still loyal, living together and doing amazing things, with a family of their own and children both adopted and biological. One of them ends up Sarutobi’s successor before he is completely burned out, and as a result a lot of bad choices are never made…

Character: Orochimaru

How I feel about this character: I…freaking love him.

Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Jiraiya, Tsunade, Dan Kato (ask me why), Sakumo Hatake, and thanks to a strange turning of events and AUs galore on Discord… Danzo and Kakuzu (under very specific circumstances)

My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Kimimaro or Anko. Would have liked to see a bit more pertaining to his mentoring each of them.

My unpopular opinion about this character: He is an incredibly polarizing character within the fandom, so anything I say will be unpopular on one side or another. I think he could have done amazing things had his team not dissolved and had he otherwise not lost everything he ever could have loved. They were a key link to his humanity. A loyal Orochimaru could have been a powerful asset.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Either a true redemption arc, or letting him remain the BIG BAD he was meant to be.

Favorite friendship for this character: Jiraiya and Tsunade, naturally.

My crossover ship: After reading a Sesshoumaru/Orochimaru drabble, I deeply desire to see this. More of it. Like now.

How do you feel about all the final/canon ships of Naruto? Particularly NaruHina, SasuSaku? And what are your thoughts about Metal not having a canon mother? (This does not have to do with the six sentence ask)

Oh boy. Well, let’s break it down with the easiest ships, I guess to go over.

I honestly thank the gods that Metal has no canon confirmed mom. I would be pissed if they decided to confirm his mom, and I’d be really fucking pissed if it ended up being Tenten in a non-surrogate kinda of way. Like it would feel so impossibly cheap and flat. So to me it’s a relief more than anything. I think it’s weird that we’re suddenly given this idea that Lee belongs to a clan? Like that’s....new... but okay sure. I’m cool with him having a family but also like we’ve never seen them so like i dunno... but i do love that he has a kid. And I’m mostly just relieved that we don’t have to deal with some rando being the kid’s mom or something as cheap as shoving Tenten into that role because they need a neat and tidy ending.

As for the pairings....

InoSai: I think wtf? sums up how I felt when I saw them together??? I was like. “umm...where did this come from?” Like he called her pretty once? but like if i recall, he wasn’t sincere???? he did it because Sakura had reacted badly to him calling her ugly???? so i dunno. i feel like InoSai is weird and they’re probably just each other’s beards, ya know? like it’s not egregious or anything. It’s kind of like... whatever but also like “why????” In general, the idea of Sai being romantic with anyone is weird to me.

ChouKarin: This was.....like the most random thing? It was like “oh shit we forgot that Chouji needs a girl fuck” like they had to tie up loose ends and make sure there was a third generation of Ino-Shika-Chou. Which like w/e Chouchou is literally everything. But it’s just like...they had to make everything so...hetero? I just didn’t get it. But it’s also not like terrible or anything. Just like w/e. If anything it’s probably one of the more palatable of the things I’m like ‘wtf’ about which is mostly everything

ShikaTema: EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL. At least we have one GOOD canon ship. It’s like...RonxHermione finally getting together and being together in the epilogue. It’s like the pay off. And like if I have to put up with shit pairings being canon at least they gave me this one shining beautiful ship as canon to go along with the garbage.

Nar*Hina: W H Y like there is nothing worse than seeing another HarryxGinny type of pairing to me. It’s like this girl has been so kind and loving but so fucking ignored by the hero in favor of literally everything else but they still...get...together??????? Like sure maybe there was some off screen shit we never saw but personally I don’t think it’s good writing to stick two ppl together who canonically have very little interactions or development. Hinata could do so much better and deserves better than someone who would literally drop everything for Sasuke but not for her. It feels so shoehorned in there. Naruto felt about Hinata the same way he felt about everyone--it’s like I care about this person and don’t want them to get hurt and seeing them hurt upsets me but like I don’t think about them outside of interacting with them. She confesses her love and he doesn’t have the decency to so much as respond? And like hey i get that there’s a war going on but like also I think you could find time to at least be like “hey about that love confession!” A lot of characters’ in the series have their personal growth tied to Naruto and it’s so fucking contrived, but then we’ve got Hinata and she actually really is amazing and strong but it felt very much like how Ginny was amazing and strong in OotP. She was that way because she has to be to end up with the main hero, and all of her growth is intrinsically tied to him and him ultimately “loving” her.

Sas*Saku: It’s....abusive....i don’t....get why....we have....all these...bad ships....but there ya go. Like Sasuke has never really cared deeply about her and she’s only ever romanticized him, and like just everything done with Sakura through the series was constantly contradicting her growth and who she could be and should have been. She didn’t need to love him forever. If anything, it’s really unrealistic that she loved him for as long as she did with how he treated her and their time apart. Nothing about this ship feels good. Like Sasuke literally fucked off from the village and left a kid with Sakura--whether it’s actually Sakura or Karin’s I rlly don’t care because at the end of the day, SasuSaku is a bad pairing and I don’t care if someone disagrees. It’s bad. It’s gross. And just like the determination to make Sasuke straight is just mind boggling. I don’t even care about NaruSasu anymore but like that should have been the logical follow through even if it wasn’t overt, even if it was subtle--that should have been endgame and not because I like it or think its perfect and wonderful because tbh there are a lot of problems with their relationship but at least it makes sense and at least we see them care and grow together. Also, Sakura deserved better from everyone, especially Sasuke and ESPECIALLY Kishimoto.

That’s..everything right???? I mean, there were a number of characters left out of the Make Everyone Hetero Fiasco--Lee, Tenten, Kankurou, Gaara, Kiba, Shino.... and honestly thank god for those who escaped.
