I think the reason why Naruto fans get so passionate and upset about the series is because of how real it can be. Naruto isn’t about paragon heroes outdoing dastardly villains. It’s about human beings fighting tooth and nail to survive in a world surrounded by death. It’s about broken systems made and perpetuated by broken people.
The Hyuga clan isn’t just antagonistic or pretentious, they practice slavery.
The Uchiha clan weren’t just killed by some raging psychopath, they were systematically massacred.
Itachi isn’t just cruel to Sasuke because he’s a bad brother, he’s cruel because he’d been told time and time again that you can only survive by being cruel and he wants nothing more than for Sasuke to survive.
Nagato isn’t trying to take over the world just for the sake of power, he’s trying to take over the world because it beat him down to the point of believing that the only chance at peace there is is the world being forced into compliance through fear.
Iruka isn’t hard on Naruto just because he’s a strict teacher, he’s hard on Naruto because he knows from experience how unforgiving the world is towards orphans.
Kakashi isn’t just some silly and slightly lazy teacher, he’s a contract killer still grieving his loved ones and struggling to do better without knowing how he’s supposed to.
Sakura isn’t just a fangirl, she’s a normal girl in a very dangerous and abnormal world constantly being made to choose between what she’s supposed to do and what she feels.
Sasuke isn’t just some edgelord, he’s a survivor who lost everything then gets repeatedly told that he has to choose between keeping what he’s gained and doing better than his brother.
Naruto isn’t just trying to be the best Hokage there ever was, he’s trying to prove his worth to a society that abandoned him just for existing and, in a way, confirm his worth to himself.
The Naruto story is about humans trying to force themselves into the role of weapons because that’s what they were told they had to be. It’s a story where everyone is a perpetrator but no one is trying to do wrong. It’s a story where everyone is a victim but no one is a perfect victim.
The world and the characters aren’t simple and trying to simplify them only takes away from them. So of course we get passionate about showing off all the reasons why they shouldn’t be simplified and all of the ways they’re complicated. Of course we get upset when we see others simplifying them or selling certain aspects of their characters short. Of course we get upset when the series itself simplifies them. Of course we get upset when the series chooses to abandon them. Because it not only feels like the characters are giving up, it feels like the series is betraying anyone who chose to get invested in its complexities.

Kishimoto is so funny. 'oh everyone thinks Sasuke and Naruto are in love? That's weird. Here, I'll just make them soulbonded reincarnations of a generations old conflict, to emphasis their brotherly bond' SIR????

Thinking about Tsunade and Orochimaru and grief
thinking about how people process similar things in different ways
thinking about how easily Orochimaru could have ended up as team medic and how Tsunade could have become obsessed with immortality and seeing her deceased loved ones again

I don’t understand why Kishimoto never added Kakashi having thoughts about Gai when he died in the pain assault. It’s like he doesn’t want his relationship with Gai to have depth but then adds all these interactions and feelings that show how much he means to Kakashi.
He thinks of his dead friends and family, he thinks of Konoha 11, but he doesn’t think about his longest and biggest support? Not even a passing thought?
Might Gai is Kakashi’s best friend and rival, he isn’t a nuisance to him and he doesn’t think he’s less than him. Their relationship has substance and evidence to show how much they care about one another, im sick of Kishimoto and his constant need to diminish it then prop it up and then diminish it again. How can he be so inconsistent with relationships and character writing??

The weird romantic choices in Naruto: Sasusaku
Warning: this is mostly an anti-sasusaku analysis.
There are 2 important things that I must to mention before starting.
I won't pretend to understand Japanese culture. I was born and raised in a Latin culture, which probably has a completely opposite view of romance (we are loud, we kind of take pride in PDA, and we wear our hearts in our sleeves). So, it's more than possible that I'm making a misinterpretation of what Kishi wanted to say. Nevertheless, Naruto reached an international public, so I won't feel bad about making an interpretation of it either.
I'm not an anti-shipper or pro-shipper, this is just an analysis, please feel free to ship whoever you want (yes, even sasusaku if that makes you happy (just note that probably this post won't make you happy)).
One of the things that really put me off are the ships stablished on chapter 700 of the manga (Naruto is not the only manga that does this and I mostly dislike it as a resource). The reason for it is that it leaves no space for the reader's imagination. I mean, do we need to know that Chouji married that woman from the Hidden Cloud that I don't even care enough to google her name?
Really...?
Is it important to the story? Thematically? Or like in a dramatic character arc way?
Romantic pairings are important, well, in romantic stories, but in shounen are more of an afterthought. And that's fine. Shounen are about other things like: bravery, self-fulfillment, friendship, growing up, dreams...
So I say let people imagine their favorite pairings, there's no need to make it canon.
But if you're going to make it canon, it should be coherent within the story, again: thematically, in-character, ideally foreshadowed, and symbolically.
Now, the relationship of Sakura and Sasuke is quite interesting. Sakura is obsessed with Sasuke.
Tumblr media
It's definitely what she WANTS as a character. The big question is: Is this what she NEEDS? And here's where a lot of the critique on her character falls. Because character development is when they realize that what they want is not what they need, and therefore they change their path into getting what they need. If this condition is not meet, the character flops or ends up feeling like a puppet of the author.
In contrast, Sasuke wants... well, isn't that complex? If I were to oversimplify it, he wants justice. What he needs? Besides a hug, I would dare to say allies, people that support him so that he doesn't go on alone on his quest.
Tumblr media
(Ironically, you can interpret these panels as Sasuke admitting to have feelings for Sakura, 'cause he doesn't denies it, he only states that there are no reasons for it, hence it's not something to be valued (but it's kind of a stretch))
So character A is infatuated with a character B who doesn't value their relationship because he sees bonds as an obstacle to his goals, he has lost too many people already and he doesn't want to lose more.
Is this important to the story? Does Sasuke gets stronger because of Sakura's love? And vice versa? Is Sasuke saved because of Sakura?
Nope.
Tumblr media
It's Naruto who saves Sasuke by the power of "friendship" (as a regular shounen even though there's nothing regular in the relationship between Naruto and Sasuke).
Therefore, Sakura's love is not important to the story. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great as a character flaw, but to me it had to change at some point. Evolve. Grow. Whether to save Sasuke or to just move on, because that's, imo, the big issue with this ship: the unhealthy message.
So let's get to the message.
From Sakuras POV it's: "it's okay to be obsessed with a guy who's not-that-into you because he'll come around." This is something I would never say to another human being. Again it could be the Latin blood in me, but romance should bring fireworks. If a person doesn't SHOW that you are their sun and moon, it's not worth it.
I know it's a cornball thing, but love is passion. Obsession. Someone you can't live without. I say fall head over heels. Find someone you can love like crazy, and who'll love you the same way back. How do you you find 'em? Well, you forget your head and you listen to your heart. I'm not hearing any heart. Because the truth is, honey, there's no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love, well, you haven't lived a life at all. But you have to try, because if you haven't tried, you haven't lived. - Meet Joe Black
I love this quote and I love this movie.
But anyway, it is possible to write Sakura into that character who would not give up her love for Sasuke in a healthier way (I still believe that building your life around a person is dangerous for your mental health, but it's a bit better if it is reciprocated), just put on some of Sasuke's point of view. Let the reader see that he cares about her, that he's nice to her (and probably only to her). That there is something that connect them both on a special way. Yeah, he would give that up and become an idiot when he leaves, but it's there and you can build on that later.
Metaphors are dangerous. A single metaphor can give birth to love. - The Unbearable Lightness of Being
On Sasuke's side, the message is more like "you should really be with this person who has chased you", "you must love back a person that loves you". Which is again bad advise. People should be free to choose who to love. Always. It shouldn't be an obligation.
Sasuke never asked Sakura for her love and dedication (at least from what's inside the manga). She gave it freely. And he rejected it freely. On various occasions. A "why did he changed his mind?" was needed. How do we go from this:
Tumblr media
To a marriage and a kid? How does this man who is so traumatized by all that he has been through even capable of having a family?
Do I have to talk about the poke...? *Sighs* This one here is a great analysis about the poke. To sum it up, it's not a romantic gesture, it's more of a "kindly leave me alone" gesture with an emphasis on "kindly". People get caught out in the idea that its Itachi's gesture, and Sasuke loves Itachi, therefore Sasuke using this gesture with Sakura means Sasuke loves Sakura. That's a fallacy.
Is it in-character?
For Sakura the answer is kind of yes. But for Sasuke? Not really. He's a goal-driven person with deep, deep, emotional trauma. I don't believe it's even possible for him to develop a romantic relationship. And I might have bought it by flexing hard on my imagination, if Kishi would just STOP writing things like this:
Tumblr media
Was it necessary to establish Sasuke as an absent father and husband? And yet I see this as ooc, considering that Sasuke doesn't want bonds because he's afraid to lose them. In the hypothetical case that he were to accept making bonds, he wouldn't leave, he would cherish them (because he would still be afraid to lose them). Like, he's too traumatized to stay in Konoha, but not to marry Sakura? It's just contradictory in the wrong way.
So, symbolically, this romance is all over the place as an unhealthy relationship for Sakura, for Sasuke, and for whoever reads this and thinks it's a good role model. It could be used as a critic, but, let's face it, it's not painted that way.
To sum up a bit:
Thematically this ship has nothing to do with Naruto's story (friendship, dreams, etc).
It's somehow in-character for Sakura, but not so much for Sasuke.
It is foreshadowed, but not built on. More of Sasuke's viewpoint was needed.
And symbolically (the message) is unhealthy.
My conclusion is that is a fan-service that fails to stay truth to the story and the characters, and that keeps building on the fan-service through Boruto ugh...

The way Kishimoto drew and the way Ikemoto draws are so stark.
I know it isn't hot news that ikemoto's art is universally ugly and has pedo vibes, but compared to Kishimoto's art it adds an extra layer of icky.
Okay like for example Sakura's, Ino's, and Hinata's first appearance
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now Saradas first appearance
Tumblr media
When Kishimoto introduces his female character, it focuses on the character (or in relation to other characters). But, Ikemoto introduces Sarada with an emphasis on her physical appearance. What makes it incredibly disgusting is that she is FUCKING 12!
And it gets much, much worse.
All of Sarada's panels are sexualized in a way. Every. Single. One. (these are from early boruto)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Manga covers are just as bad
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Comparing this to the genin Sakura (and Ino) from early Naruto, Ikemoto, who worked on Naruto with Kishimoto, is going out of his way to draw Sarada like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND NO HE DIDN'T JUST SEXULIZE THE GIRLS
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can talk for hours about this but I’ll end it here.

Naruto’s Playlist that reminds him of Sakura
Tumblr media
Compass - The Neighbourhood
Supergood - Duckwrth
Will Do - T.V. On The Radio
Out of my League - Fitz and the Tantrums
THE SHADE - Rex Orange County
Cloud 9 - Beach Bunny feat. Tengan and Sara
Her - Majid Jordan
Cooks - Still Woozy
Heaven - Niall Horan
Strawberry Skies - Kid Travis
I haven’t made a playlist in a while! So Here’s one. These are just songs that I think Naruto would hum or sing in his daily routine that remind him of Sakura and how much he treasures her.
Headcanon : Naruto sings these songs around Sakura whenever he tried to cook a meal for her

And to follow up on my previous post about Dany and Sasuke, the main difference between the two characters is the fact that Dany is being written by an author who understands that the only way to dismantle oppressive systems is through violence, whereas Sasuke’s author doesn’t.
The shinobi system as shown in the anime and manga is cruel to almost every character that we encounter, from the main heroes,- Naruto, Kakashi, Tsunade, Sakura, etc., and our anti-heroes/villains, like Pain, Madara, Obito, even Orochimaru. It preys on child-prodigies to use as tools to further the broken philosophies of the hidden villages.
Itachi massacred his entire clan at thirteen years old, because the people in power in his village gave him the order, and manipulated him into thinking he had a choice.
Nagato Uzumaki lost his entire family at the hands of shinobi wearing his family emblem on their backs.
Our main character, Naruto , was made into a vessel for an ancient demon by his father a few minutes after his birth.
The shinobi system is one that operates on violence and oppression. How else can it reformed or disbanded, if not through violence?
And there is a popular misconception about Daenerys’ last chapter in ADWD, the violence she will enact will not be towards the people of Westeros, but rather the slave masters, who have disregarded the lives of the people enslaved by them.

So Kishimoto really just stole from a sns shipper their art and copy paste it to make the ending?
He literally just hated his own manga so much, lost his passion and became so uncreative. But tbh I can understand that, being forced to create a stupid ending so the story continues.
I still believe the ending is part of the infinite tsukuyomi.
Can some of you guys send me some analysis about it? Thank you

How Sakura’s Love Interest Ruined Her Character Development
Tumblr media
Alright. I promise this is the last Sakura related content I’ll do for a while. But after seeing several other people on here talk about about this subject, I thought it would be interesting to discuss. This isn’t gonna be a full on analysis, rather my thoughts as someone who loves Sakura and was disappointed to see how her character was handled in canon.
I think a lot of the fandom can be agree that Sakura’s biggest flaw was her love for Sasuke. Love is typically supposed to be a character’s strength, but unfortunately for our pink cherry blossom, it’s her weakness. And her downfall.
Now, I’ve already made it clear what my feelings on SasuSaku are. I like the pairing, they could have been better developed and aren’t nearly terrible as people claim they are. However, it would be ignorant of me to not acknowledge that canon Sasusaku is… kinda shitty.
Don’t get my wrong, they have their cute moments in blank period, like Sasuke asking Sakura to wear the clan crest, but things start going downhill when they get married and the plot of Burrito rolls around. Sakura is left to be a single mother while Sasuke is off god knows where for that stupid space alien/ “remains of Kaguya” whatever plot. Sasuke never writes to check up on his family, it’s implied that Sarada doesn’t remember him at all or what he looks like, and Sakura is left there trying to assure her poor daughter that Sasuke is doing this because he loves them. But when Sasuke comes back, he rarely acknowledges or wants to spend time with them at all. Not to mention, he seems to care more about Naruto’s kid than his own. Naruto suffers from this problem as well, but that’s a discussion for another time.
For the canon endgame, Kishimoto certainly doesn’t write any of his characters being happy in their relationships.
Anyway, Sakura and her character development. It may not have been grand as her teammates, but it was still there. Sakura went from a naive girl that was obsessed with boys and her looks to someone who acknowledged that she had to work harder if she wanted to help and protect those she cared for. She went from disliking and envying Naruto to someone who was willing to throw her ninja career away so her friend could follow his dream. She wanted to help Naruto to bring Sasuke back, but realized she wasn’t strong enough, so she went to Tsuande for help and become a damn good medical ninja as a result. She became more confident in herself and was always there to support her friends. She never needed an epic fight or a tramatic backstory, I would say her development was pretty great.
But then all of that gets thrown away whenever Sasuke comes into the picture. Sakura may be able to stand up for others, but never does she stand up for herself when it comes to Sasuke. When he belittles her in the War Arc for simply asking him what was going on, she gets all quiet and sad. Defeated. Worst part is that Naruto can’t even stand up for her properly.
The kunoichi who broke off Kaguya’s horn and aided in sealing her, therefore saving the world, is left a begging, whimpering mess for Sasuke to come back to her, to come back to team 7. And what does she get in return? A genjustu of him killing her.
And just when you think oh this has to finally get her to realize that she can do so much better than him, or at least get her to step back and reevaluate her feelings, let her spend time away from him, it’s just forgotten about! Forget traumatizing and hurting her, it’s okay because Sasuke apologized and now she wants to go with him. Don’t get me wrong, I do think that was a genuine apology, but the fact that she was just expected to forgive him at the snap of a finger was infuriating. And down right sad.
It doesn’t help that nobody else comments on it, or tells Sakura “hey, what he did was pretty shitty, you didn’t deserve that.” Or stand up for her at all. Kakashi kinda did, but it was so weak.
In Naruto, a woman’s role is to support the men, because what else are they good for? And if they ever move on from a guy they like, they’re a “terrible person,” in Kishimoto’s words. Whatever improved or developed Sakura’s character, it reverted backwards or was simply forgotten for Sasuke. Because Sakura loves him, she can never disagree or argue or fight with him, because that would make her a bad person.
Sakura had the potential to become one of the greatest heroines in anime, but that was all thrown away becasue of her misogynistic creator and his idiotic editors. She deserved better, every female character in Naruto deserved better, and burrito should have never happened because it’s an abomination to the Naruto franchise.

Y’all ever think about how Gai nearly died facing the seven swordsman of the mist, then watched his father actually die in front of him while fighting them, then over a decade later he’s face to face with the same people who killed his father in the 4th shinobi war?
You ever think about the anxiety he was having? The fear? The memories? The sudden doom and then hope his father will save him again then having to painfully remember his papa isn’t coming to save him this time? You ever think about how Kishimoto never touched on it?
