Frost let themselves to be embraced by the soft leaves, his tensed shoulders eased as he draped himself onto the sturdy branch. It didn't take long for him to drift off, his scarf surprisingly soft, for them to rest his weary head.

He looked... peaceful, for once in their existence, his knitted brows, his darting eyes, his pressed-thin lips, all gone. His softened expression made them looked pretty, in a way where one would leave a soft kiss on their forehead and whisper sweet nothings into his ears...

Elise only allowed her hand to linger on their face for seconds too long, brushing stray strands of hair aside. Her eyes stealing one last glance at that pretty face before she pulled herself away.

"Sleep well, for you've earned it..." The whisper carried away by the breeze, he deserved this moment of tranquility, no matter how short it might be, they deserved to put everything aside for once in their lives, just this once.

Set against the backdrop of Audrey, a vampire turned in 1780s memory, (told in flashback) and Isabella's "Elise" chaotic bisexual life as a call girl and journalist, with historical anecdotes from Audrey's half-sister, Camille, a regular Mary Wollstonecraft, they navigate the treacheries of upper late 18th century society, their own monsters and trauma and learn, perhaps, humanity is more akin to beasts than they think. They also learn along the way, that they're bound by more than their bisexuality and difficult pasts and presents. Les Liaisons Dangereuses (Dangerous Connections or Dangerous Liaisons) with vampires.

Genre: speculative historical fiction/queer historical fiction/gothic horror/gothic romance.

speaking of couslands i have long had a scene in me mind where elise is w alistair during in hushed whispers and she and amadea meet and it's just delightful.

#the mages have to be given a little time to pack just. feasibly. so the inquisition and royals stay in the keep for the night #and elise seeks amadea out bc shes curious. everyone in the world is curious. also the inquisition is operating in her country! #so they talk and elise kind of tiptoes around some issues to get a feel for amadea's opinions. but they agree on a LOT. #and it fizzles into just. a conversation. elise apologizes for alistair's having to crack down on the mages #and for him being kind of brisk w her. all of this shit has kind of been a lot yknow. #and amadea is like. so endeared to her because shes just. respectful. she doesnt even comment on amadea being dalish #except to ask her informed and respectful questions occasionally. #human nobles seem profoundly SHITTY in her experience. elise is not shitty and from the way she describes the king he isnt really either. #(she will learn later in her history/politics studies how hard theyve both worked to improve the conditions of elves in ferelden) #anyway amadea (lifelong healer and midwife) is like ohhh btw new bestie youre definitely pregnant. #ummm heres some herbs and dietary tips to make sure everything goes well 💖 #and it does help! bc after a decade of trying to produce an heir they do get one! and the Inquisitor was the first to know! #carly.txt #carly's ocs #oc: elise #oc: amadea

for the ship thing...... elise and bryce? >:3

Gives nose/forehead kisses - definitely Bryce! Just because of the height difference and how much he dotes on Elise, like he's such a wifeguy, just constantly kissing her on the forehead or the back of the hand solely because he can and he just loves her so much!

Gets jealous the most - I don't think either of them are necessarily very jealous, to the point that Bryce even tells her at one point that she's made him discover that he's a jealous man but she's literally the only person he's ever been jealous over. And I think Elise was always so focused on her plan for the future that even when she was a bit jealous, she just brushed it off. So once they're together I think they're secure enough to not really get jealous because why would they?

Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive - I think given Bryce's whole 'playboy rakehell' thing, he'd probably be the one who needed to get picked up. And he'd absolutely be the kinda drunk guy to be like "whoa, ma'am you can't take me home, I'm married" and Elise would have to go, "Yes, I know, I'm your wife"

Takes care of on sick days - given Elise's chronic illness, I think it's definitely more common that Bryce takes care of her on bad pain days or when she has a flare up, absolutely doting on her and making sure she's as comfortable as possible. I'm talking the whole nine yards, running her a hot bath, giving her a massage, getting her her favorite treats to snack on, cracking ridiculous jokes just to get her to laugh

Drags the other person out into the water on beach day - Definitely Bryce! I think if they ever went to the beach, Elise would just sit on a blanket or towel and read or sketch until Bryce turned his puppy dog eyes on her and managed to get her to wade into the water with him. And then because he's an incorrigible bastard, he'd scoop her up and book it into deeper water to get her drenched in the waves while she put up a token protest and laughed

Gives unprompted massages - definitely Bryce, though I can also see Elise giving him a nice relaxing shoulder rub after long days of dealing with his stressful duties as viscount, hands moving up to tangle in his curls and scratch her nails over his scalp as he just melts back against her like a puppet whose strings have been cut

Drives/rides shotgun - if they could drive, I think Bryce would drive so Elise could relax in the passenger seat and look out the window or pick the music. He's absolutely the guy who drives with one hand on the wheel and the other on her thigh or holding her hand bc he's down bad for her

Brings the other lunch at work - both! Elise will bring him lunch when he's stuck dealing with paperwork and discussing things with the local officials and whatnot, similarly though Elise doesn't work, Bryce will bring her lunch when she's busy sketching or reading or whatever to make sure she doesn't forget to eat and because he likes eating lunch with his wife

Has the better parental relationship - so despite her shitty relationship with her mom, probably Elise because she was close with her dad and their relationship was wonderful whereas Bryce barely knew his parents apart from knowing he was his father's heir because he was predominantly raised by maids and tutors

Tries to start role-playing in bed - I honestly feel like this could go either way, but I think Bryce would be the one confident enough to bring it up and he would probably do it with the dumbest fucking roles imaginable, just to break the ice, like offering to model nude for Elise or something, a little artist and muse action y'know - which could actually be a pretty hot roleplay for them tbh

Embarrassingly drunk dancer - Bryce. He dances like a white dad at a barbecue and Elise doesn't know whether to laugh or hide her face in embarrassment bc he's just pulling a

Still cries watching Titanic - so I've never actually seen Titanic but from what I know about it it's not very cry-worthy to me? so I can't really see either of them crying at it

Firmly believes in couples costumes - I don't think either have very strong opinions on them but Bryce does think they're cute and any time they get an invitation to a masquerade he's like 'babe can we please choose matching or at least corresponding masks and base our outfits on them so everyone knows we're together?'

Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas - Bryce!!! it's a combination of growing up rich and wanting to spoil Elise because for so long she went without so he completely disregards the rule to get her something especially nice

Makes the other eat breakfast - I think it's pretty mutual tbh! Like, I think Bryce makes sure Elise eats breakfast because he knows she'll just eat something small and not very filling if he doesn't and she makes sure he remembers to eat so he won't forget when he gets caught up in whatever he's working on

Remembers anniversaries - both of them! I think they're the kind of couple that would like propose to each other at the same time, just constantly trying to surprise the other with anniversary gifts or dinners or whatever only to get surprised themselves

Brings up having kids - Neither, since they both know the other either doesn't want kids or isn't deadset on having them so they never have a conversation about having kids because there's no indication either of them have changed their minds
