Its fundraising season in my town, where all the highschoolers are selling 1$ a pop of Worlds Finest Chocolate like its heroine.

I worked in a zoo all summer, where my duty was often to get and hold peoples attention, and occasionally sell them things. Heres my tactics for gettin custumors:

Start a dialogue, about anything!

Be inviting, and for the love of god talk like a human person! My experience at the zoo often led to me saying things like, "Hey I love your hair/shirt/bag! (Brief interaction) Would you like to see/learn about (insert item, eg a lion skull)?"

There is no necessity to rush them into buying something!

If they don't seem interested in what you have then attempt to engage them in any kind of positive interaction! I promise you the longer they talk the more likely they are to be curious about your wares!

Talk about the item before you mention its for sale!

You want a reaction that goes "Oh thats cool...I CAN HAVE ONE OF MY OWN?"

Typically if you start off with the sales pitch immediately people will stop paying attention because "Ugh really? You're trying to sell me something?" And that does not provide customers a good buying climate

Say thanks for stopping by, have a nice day, etc. Even if they don't buy or stop to talk

This ties back to a good customer experience, if you're selling things in a place people might not be actively looking for something to buy then not everyone is going to be interested. Its crucial that you still provide a positive interaction that will leave a positive impression of yourself, your merchandise, or the company you work for because if they see you again or theyre thinking about buying something they will remember that.

But yeah, I'm not a professional, I don't study marketing, this is just what I found worked in my specific circumstances.

"But if college was free, then people would abuse that and get useless degrees" hell yeah I would! If I could go to college without debt I would make it my job to get a degree in every little thing that interested me. I'd get a doctorate in film studies. I'd have a bachelor's degree for every science I like. I'd try to learn at least 5 languages with varying results. I would learn something "useful" like coding and then follow it up with a ""useless"" degree like art history. I'd be the world record speed run holder for getting every degree possible.

But I can't afford college without going into massive debt, so instead I spent the last 5 years trying to figure out what I am passionate enough about to consider going into debt over, because unfortunately being passionate about everything is extremely expensive to pursue.

please don't mistake silence for hatred. please don't mistake unanswered plotting messages as indifference, or a lack of enthusiasm towards you. considering the ages of most roleplayers, many of us have bills to pay, families to take care of, medical conditions to treat, appointments to make, classes to take, homes to clean, and lives to live away from the computer that are far, far more important than writing on tumblr — life has a tendency to get in the way of hobbies and fun things like this. be patient with your fellow writers. if it doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. of course you can set your boundaries, keep your space comfortable, and softblock whoever you wish, but do so while recognizing it's probably not hatred or apathy that keeps them from leaping into your dms with message after message. they probably love this hobby just as much as you... but sometimes life gets in the way.

for quite some time, I have been working on putting every bit of practical information I have about making a podcast into some kind of readable resource and I'm very happy to say that, by george, I think I've done it.

this is by no means the be-all-end-all definitive correct guide on how to make an audio drama. as I emphasize many times throughout, this is just how I do things, but it's a pretty thorough rundown of how I do things. if you've been too overwhelmed to start your own show, I sincerely hope this helps you!
