One thing I am tired of when reading Thor/Norse mythology/Avengers/ God of War fanfics. Is the Good vs Evil trope.
Like a exempel that the asgardians are true evil and the giants are the true good beings here! Or Loki hasn't done anything wrong and he is the true hero! Which is wrong!! As a Norse Mythology fan and scandinavian it annoys me when I read these fics. Because Norse mytholgy is not a story of a battle between Good against Evil.
It's Order vs Chaos!
Asgardians standed for order. But they could also be really flawed too. Like Odin is being the wise ruler of Asgard and searcher for Wisdom. But he was also a war god who LOVED a good war! And if there were no war or battle he would start one secretly! He could be even prideful and arrogant sometimes.
Another exempel is Thor. He was the protector of the innocent and fought giants that tried to attack Midgard or Asgard while he traveled. But he had a bad temprament like the thunder he wielded and wasn't the smartest. And the giants where the chaos bringers.
Which Loki showed with his chaotic nature. Which gave him the position as trickster god. But he was also wise like the giant kind but also dangerous.
What I am trying to say is. The gods in norse mythology are very human. They are not perfect but they are neither evil.
They are just flawed!

OK OK OKOKOKOKON SO I LOVE MYTHOLOGY I THINK ITS SUPER COOL AND ONE OF MY FAVORITE MYTHOS IS NORSE MYTHOLOGY BC I JUST THINK ITS NEAT SO I ALSO LISTEND TO THE BIFROST INCIDENT AND THAT HAS A LOT OF NORSE MYTHOS STUFF AND SO I HAD A LOT OF TOUGHTS ABOUT IT SO HERES MY TED RANT ABOUT SHIT I NOTICED THAT REFANCES NORSE MYTHOLOGY ALSO ALL OF MY INFO I GOT FROM OVERLY SARCASTIC PREDUCTIONS I AM BY NO MEANS AN EXPERT ON THIS I AM JUST A HUGE NERD
Loki killed Baldur that, and in Norse mythology his punishment (after running away and making the fishing net and then getting caught) was to be chained up by the Midgard serpent/Jörmungandr and then during Ragnarök Loki apares despite previously being in his "underground snake prison". In TBI Loki was tought to be publicly executed(as punishment for killing Baldur) but plot twist she lived bitches. Her mind is a lot fucked up tho.
2. SPEAKING OF JÖRMUNGANDR! During Ragnarök O'Clock Thor fights it and wins but after taking 9 steps away dies. AND WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT AFTER FIGHTING(I think? Form what I got Odin was the midgard serpent or possesed by it or sm idk man) ODIN THOR TAKES YOU GUESSED IT 9 STEPS AND THEN BREAKS A WINDOW TO KILL HIM AND ODIN 3. SPEAKING OF THOR HE USES A HAMMER I THINK IT WAS AN ENGIENERS TO BREAK THE WINDOW AND WHAT IS THORS MAIN WEPON NORSE MYTHOLGY MJÖLNIR A HAMMER
4. Unrelated to Norse mythology the second Lyff mentioned "the bandits" I was like "Its the mechs. Calling it now" AND IT WAS!
Thats all that I remember thinking in the moment and know thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

In my drawings of trees that are being overgrows with urban things the trees are representative of the world like Yggdrasil, and in my first large gold drawing Yggdrasil Overgrown I also added Heimdall from Norse mythology blowing the gjallahorn which he does to start Ragnarok, the mythical battle that ends the world in norse mytholgy. The snake is Jormungandr the world serpent who fights the gods in Ragnarok, for me in the drawing it's representative of the destructive side of nature destroying the human race as we destroy the natural world.

The lost Loki myth
A couple weeks ago I was sulking that I couldn’t find my favourite Loki myth. I have since found out why I couldn’t find it: it wasn’t a myth, it was a fanfic.
More specifically, a fanfic by Dutch sci-fi and (horror) fantasy writer Tais Teng. He was one of my absolute favourites as a child and apparently my young brain decided that the self-invented Norse myth one of his characters tells in “The Grin of the Djinn” should be officially incorporated into Norse mythology.
I found it again today and I must say, I forgive childhood me for wanting this to be canon:
Loki has incurred the wrath of the ice giants by stealing from their king and they are laying siege to Asgard, surrounding its towering walls. Nothing can break through those walls, but the jötunn king Bergamir puts his seven daughters to work digging a tunnel underneath the wall. Their nails were made of flawless diamonds and dug through stone as if it were soft earth.
The gods fear their progress and threaten to turn Loki over to the ice giants, but Loki persuades them to let him try and stop the siege. After nightfall he goes down to the tunnel and charms the giantesses with presents and compliments, until they all want to win his favour. He flatters them all, but mourns the fact that all the hard work has made them so grimy, with their hair all in knots and their diamond nails all stained with dirt. The girls spend the next seven days and nights making themselves pretty instead of digging and they all end up sleeping with Loki (and probably comparing notes afterwards).
Loki sleeps in a bit too late though, and he gets caught by the guards and brought to the king. King Bergamir is furious that Loki dared to touch his daughters, but Loki merely laughs and tells him that his lovely daughters are sure to have a lot of noble suitors now they are women that know what they want and are capable of in the bedroom.
The jötunn king can’t even deny the truth of this, but he still vows to chop Loki’s head off. Of course Loki thinks of another ruse, promising to lead the king to the hidden treasures of the trolls. Once there, he tricks the king into putting on a cursed armlet and triumphantly makes his escape while the royal guard is preoccupied trying to save their master.
This is clearly inspired by the myth of how the walls of Asgard were built by a mysterious jötunn craftsman, who demands to have the sun, the moon, and the goddess Freyja as payment. Loki distracts and seduces the builder’s horse, Svaðilfari, and comes home some months later with the newborn eight-legged horse Sleipnir. It also has elements from the myth in which Odin seduces the jötunn princess Gunnlöd to steal her father’s mead of poetry, and even though there are definitely some more modern elements that might have tipped me off (the diamond nails for instance) I genuinely think it makes a great Loki myth.
So to conclude: thank you Tais Teng for this gift, but also: damn you, I spent more than a decade with a piece of fanfic in my myth collection.

Concerning the Nature of Storms
Concerning the Nature of Storms Peom by Ron Van Sant Inspired by Norse Mythology and a particularly violent stormy one winter night.
Concerning the Nature of Storms
A Poem
By
Ron Van Sant
Storms that fill the night with clamor
As Thor the Thunderer does rush to fight
Long sparks fly as shield blocks hammer
Cutting brightly through the cloudy night.
This is the nature of storms
My Oma to me told,
As passed on down in the Eddas
 Stories from days of old.
I feared the sound, that battle din

Mythology Monday: The Norse Creation Myth
Mythology Monday: The Norse Creation Myth
A while back I talked a bit about how the Norse believed that the world would end. So this time let’s talk a bit about how they believed that the world got started. Unsurprisingly, it involves murder. Continue reading

The best thing in s2 of ragnarök was absolutely in the church when "sønner vender tilbake til kamp" was chanted while magne prayed and fjor decided to come back, and when both their decisions were accepted the windows exploded. And the fact that Magne lost his power when he turned so far away from and believed so little in himself that he prayed to a God he didn't believe in..

Things that happen at home:
Mom: Downtown is pretty much open. We could all go out for the afternoon.
Dad: BOOKSTORE.
Me and my sisters, like a Greek chorus: YES!!!!
Mom: No! I’m not spending three hours hiding in a back corner while the four of you pull hundreds of books down!
My SO: What about the used bookstore down on Broadway that’s right next to the computer place you like? They sell hardware parts, and I need to replace a couple of components in my gaming system.
Mom: Oooooh, I’ve never built a gaming computer before.
Youngest sister: I have fifty bucks leftover from Christmas, but I might need some one to spot me.
Dad: Yeah, fine, just get in the car. *points at me* The instigator sits in front.
Middle sister:*squawks indignantly*
Dad: Do you want to be in slapping distance? Or do you want your sister to be in slapping distance? Get in the car.
Middle sister: *gets in the back seat*
