So tired of jk rowling demonisation. Yeah the woman hates trans people. She also spent amounts most of y’all have never seen on humanitarian causes and charities. She is not a one hundred percent horrible person deserving of shunning. Are people allergic to nuance

“I don’t talk about Palestine because I don’t like going into politics : /” fuck you. The existence of Muslims and MENA people has always been political to the West. Their lives and their deaths. Their happiness and anger and sorrow. Their love and hatred. Their sweat and blood and tears. Everything has always been reduced to politics when they are more than you could ever begin to comprehend. Palestine will be free. And so will Sudan and Pakistan and Lebanon and Yemen and Syria and every other country, place and people who suffer only for their pain to be called political by those responsible for and complicit in it

A post where a Westerner whines about people holding Russian culture accountable for their imperialism saying this is "dehumanising poor babushkas" or some bullshit bad-faith interpretation: 44'000 notes
Posts where Eastern Europeans detail, explain, tediously lay out the impact of imperialism on their lands and their discrimination in the West: 300 notes, mostly from other Eastern Europeans
Maybe it's that imperialist countries understand each other and would rather boost each other's voices :)

also in the same vein as "talking about wanting all men dead is going to be disturbing for marginalized men/people who were amab"... i have no qualms w anyone complaining abt christians. ESPECIALLY western christians. but as someone who has a personal relationship w the 1918 armenian/assyrian genocides, seeing people talk about hunting christians for sport is never not going to upset me on some level. like dont get me wrong, western christians are NOT oppressed, and my pain is not for them. its for the marginalized christians right now who are being actively oppressed and kept from their indigenous lands and murdered and deprived of their human rights. there are people who very much want to continue those genocides right now. so like. idk just keep in mind that there are people at this moment who's families/ancestors actually face/d horrific violence in relation to being christian + they may be justifiably unnerved by people talking about hunting christians for sport! esp when azerbaijan literally had a museum depicting dead wax armenian soldiers specifically designed to be "ugly" ethnic stereotypes. also please pay attention to artsakh and donate if you can, it's being blockaded & there are food & medical shortages

Ever thought about how a team called Justice League International is 80% American? I haven't even read their comics, but I've thought of that before. Besides Fire and Ice (and maybe Doctor Light), the whole team was pretty much all american. "International", huh? But it gets worse to me. Justice League Europe had one European member! One! It was Rocket Red. The rest of the team was not from Europe. DC really blew it. You could have given us some cool global heroes, but instead we get a bunche of Americans with a token foreigner or two. Talk about International, huh? It's no different from the regular justice league of america! They blew it! And that annoys me.
I am remaking this post to add that I don't hate people who like the Justice League International or Justice League Europe. I just think there's something not quite right about giving those teams names like that when they're mostly composed of americans. It seems like it's a bit hypocritical to say a team of 90% americans is really International or European.

okay i hope this makes sense but one thing i do believe geoguesser has helped me with is challenging my preconceived notions of a country. like okay. take this. this depressing ass looking place.
Tumblr media
where would you say it is, on first glance. my first guess was former yugoslavia/ communist bloc based on architecture. you could even say maybe even a middle eastern city. certainly not western europe so, you can imagine my shock when i found signage in dutch and .be everywhere. because this type of area is not what i think of when i think of belgium.
anyways moving on from that, i have just also felt it from being dropped in lower socio economic areas of wealthier countries (aka where i wouldnt instantly go 'oh sweden') or richer areas of countries i wouldnt consider wealthy. and because im shocked that this poorer place is in sweden or this put together city is in ... idk mexico it just has really forced me to not judge where these places could be by how well off it looks. and thats a good thing, its a good thing when you see theres a range of people living here from all backgrounds. just makes me look at places beyond their glossy pamphlet, y'know???

(western) Christians and culturally christian atheists Constantly for some reason: Islam is such a harsh and cruel religion…I’m praying 4 the poor Muslims trapped in this evil cult…be free Muslims of the world, be free from the evil of Islam…
Supposed evil Islam: its haram to force anyone to do something they don’t want to do, its haram to force your beliefs on another person, its haram to discriminate against others, if you find that you’re in an unhappy or abusive marriage you should divorce amicably rather than continue to stay married, helping even just one person holds the same weight as helping all of humanity at once, no one is born with sin it’s unfair to place that kind of thing on a baby.

not going to watch ms marvel or engage with it at all but i’m definitely curious about Who Exactly decided Kamela’s power should come from Djinn and who decided to have Nakia look like that
Because whoever made those decisions knows exactly what they’re doing. Trying to make Muslim immigrants stomachable for white audiences and in doing so removing the aspects of religion and culture that defined so many characters in this series and moreover define us as people
#only seen the trailer#didn't like what they did with Nakia at all. Not at all#You guys don't understand the awareness of making the choice to wear a hijab especially in a non-muslim country nor the requirement to cover#the neck! Ilhan Omar might do it but she makes a choice and it could be cultural or because the US government would never let her set foot#in the government if she wore a full hijab. Either way I respect her choice but for someone to take what could be either a cultural thing or#a compromise between being a representative of your religion and roots AND your country and to then apply it to a character who#uncompromisingly embraced all aspects of her religion in the comics? and her knowledge and critical thinking of society from an islamic#perspective are her defining features? CHEAP#or nah about ilhan omar it's her personal preference fundamentally but any muslim knows there is a distinction between the 2 ways of wearing#hijab. and for the writers or whoever to apply that nakia is highly dubious#and im assuming that's the link theyre going for. They're going for 'well this muslim woman does it like this so there' THAT'S A HUMAN PERSO#PERSON WHO MADE A CHOICE. BASED ON THEIR VALUES. DO NOT CONFLATE ONE PERSON'S CHOICE WITH ANOTHER'S.#the author of ms marvel made a choice to have Nakia wear her hijab THIS way. Andh for her character to be Like This. Her Values like That#you know what im saying? this is also more insidious than changing plot points or characters for ordinary stories or percy jackson or whatev#because it's about islam. it's about representation or muslim minorities and islam in western media. most of us don't like being represented#in western media because it is NEVER an acceptable representation. here again it's distorted.#anyway i wil stop ranting in the tags#and the thing that bothers me is those are pretty big things already. so what else did they totally change to remove the islamic side
