this is an accessibility aid post for neurodivergent people, because I feel bad keeping this information to myself.

^ these are loop earplugs and they help you manage sound, these work great for migraines and people with sound sensitivity bc of autism/trauma/anxiety, etc. they come with multiple sized ear tips and the sound muffler silicone ring. I bought the loop engage plus, I'm a very burnt out + overwhelmed person. these make my annoying clock go away without me having to take out the batteries.

^ flare earplugs, but I consider them more ear funnels? they allow more airflow into your ears for clearer sound. these work great for tinnitus, anxiety and autistic people. I haven't tried these yet and they have a lot less reviews on tiktok compared to loop.
if you need to search out cheaper brands I've only seen alternatives similar to loop on Amazon, look into decibels and your daily life needs, especially if you work. I feel my engage pro is great for daily home life with older children, pets, natural noises in your day, school, or work. but in a louder work setting like a factory, construction, daycare, or a theme park, I'm afraid these wouldn't work as good as experience might. I recommend checking out tiktok + reddit reviews if you're unsure.

𝔭𝔞𝔦𝔯𝔦𝔫𝔤 - Chris x fem!reader
𝔰𝔲𝔪𝔪𝔞𝔯𝔶 - realizing y/n is sensitive to noise, Chris does everything in his power to make her feel comfortable.
𝔴𝔞𝔯𝔫𝔦𝔫𝔤𝔰 - noise sensitivity, kissing, nervousness
Loud noises have never been y/n’s favorite, so even she didn’t know why she agreed to go to the Fourth of July firework festival. Even when she was little, y/n would be easily overwhelmed by loud noises, from simple sneezes, to, well, fireworks.
She hadn’t ever voiced her issue, because it’s never been an actual problem. The past few fourth of July’s, she’s simply made an excuse, and stayed home. But this one was different, this time she was dating Chris.
Although she was crazy nervous, she put on a smile, not wanting to ruin the day for Chris. He had been so excited when he asked her, she couldn’t help but say yes, hoping for the best.
Pushing through the crowd, Chris reached out, grasping her hand to keep her close. “Excited?” Chris yelled over the loud chatter of others, walking up to Matt, Nick, and Madi, hand still interlocked with hers.
Putting on a fake smile, y/n let out a unconvincing“of course” earning a knowing look from Madi. Madi had offered to stay home with her, being the only non related person that knew about her issue with noise, only to be turned down by a lovesick y/n.
Chris hadn’t noticed her unease, letting go of her hand to point at the dark sky. “Look, it’s about to start!”
Right then, a burst of color boomed through the sky, causing y/n to cover her ears with the palm of her hands, which barely muffled the noise.
Squeezing her eyes shut, y/n took deep breaths and counted back from 100 by 3’s. “97…94…91…” she whispered, her hands still covering her ears.
Just as her closed eyes began pooling with tears, she felt an arm snake around her waist, leading her away from the noise. Immediately knowing it was Chris by his firm, but gentle hold, y/n leaned into his side.
Now further from the noise, y/n opened her eyes to see Chris jingling the car keys.
“Stole these from Matt, hope he doesn’t mind”
Smiling slightly, y/n winces as more fireworks erupt in the night sky.
“Thank you” she says as Chris closes the car door, sitting next to her in the back seat.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were so sensitive to noise?” Chris asks gently, not wanting to upset or embarrass her.
“Didn’t wanna ruin the day for you” she reply’s, looking down at her hands, heat creeping up her neck.
“You could never ruin anything for me ya goof” he says, planting a kiss on her forehead. He begins peppering kisses all around her face, pausing before pressing his lips on hers, for a soft, but passionate kiss.

I know this is really bad, I’m terrible at coming up with ideas on my own. PLEASE send some requests in 🙏

it's so funny being a noise-sensitive autistic person who likes loud music. like yeah, this punk/industial/metal album from 1981 that was recorded on a potato in someone's basement is wonderful to my ears at ungodly volumes through my earbuds but i WILL have a whole meltdown if someone coughs in another room

Hi everyone,
I found this cool article about some noise cancellation headphones scientists have made using AI. According to the article:
Scientists have built noise-canceling headphones that filter out specific types of sound in real-time — such as birds chirping or car horns blaring — thanks to a deep learning artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm.
The system, which researchers at the University of Washington dub "semantic hearing," streams all sounds captured by headphones to a smartphone, which cancels everything before letting wearers pick the specific types of audio they'd like to hear. They described the protoype in a paper published Oct. 29 in the journa IACM Digital Library.
Once sounds are streamed to the app, the deep learning algorithm embedded in the software means they can use voice commands, or the app itself, to choose between 20 categories of sound to allow. These include sirens, baby cries, vacuum cleaners, and bird chips among others. They chose these 20 categories because they felt humans could distinguish between them with reasonable accuracy, according to the paper. The time delay for this entire process is under one-hundredth of a second.
The full article will be below if anyone wants to read it:

Noise Canceller Poll!!
Tumblr media
All the time, people call my Ear Defenders "headphones" and I *hate* it. I dislike it because it feels like they are calling them are want instead of the need they are and, as I need them for education and work purposes and this misnomer makes people think they have batteries (when they don't) and leads to people trying to make me remove them, however, I can also understand someone liking this term as it can help normalize your device and make you feel less "odd" or like you stick out. I wanted to see if many of the latter exist before making a post about this subject. I would love as much data as possible, so please share.
