Not far from the Pleiades & Hyades star clusters along the northern Milky Way lie the coal-black fingers of the Taurus Molecular Cloud & it is the nearest star-forming region to Earth (430 light-years away).

Even though the nebula looks rather "uneventful," the newest stars in it are just 1-2 million years old & there are more to come!

It contains hundreds of solar masses of primordial hydrogen & helium gas as well as heavier elements produced by long dead stars.

The star dust found here is condensed & the icy grains of hydrocarbons are not sparkling at all, which makes it appear dark.

This is also the reason why it isn't as popular as the Orion nebula.

This dark stardust helps obscure the visible light from the background stars & gives it a dusky appearance.

Our sun formed in a dark nebula like the Taurus Molecular Cloud about five billion years ago!

Paper is an organic material & as it ages the components are broken down by acid hydrolysis, giving off volatile & semi-volatile organic compounds into the air, which may have hints of vanilla, almond or musky florals such ethyls, tolulene &/or hexanol.
