At some point before Westview, Wanda visits Tony at the lake house (maybe she wants him to make the government give her Vision's body back). Tony, deep in his grief and just wanting to be with Pepper and baby Morgan, doesn't help as much as she wants him to.

Before leaving, already very unhinged, Wanda offers to take Tony's memories of Peter away. She phrases it like an act of compassion, since she can sense the depths of his pain. But Tony perceives it as a threat. And it's one that, especially during and after Westview, he knows she's powerful enough to achieve

So, he calls a wizard. He begs Wong to do a spell to protect his memories of Peter from ever being harmed by magic

Fast forward to NWH. Tony has been in a coma ever since the battle with Thanos. He finally wakes up, and he's so grateful to be with his family, but he doesn't understand why a certain teenager is not there

It doesn't take long for Tony to realize that no one else remembers Peter. May is dead. The kid is alone, erased, forgotten by everyone

But not by him. Because of a witch's threat and his own paranoia, his memories are safe.

And now it's time to go get his kid

Morgan frowns at the words no doubt any less hurtful to her ears than they are to his. “But why? You're still Peter and we’re still your family. You can stay here with us instead.”

“But it wouldn’t be the same. I’m not the Peter who lived here with your mom, dad, and Aunt May. A-and I have people who need me. My New York still needs a Spider-Man.”

Lies.

They burn his mouth almost immediately after they find their way out, but it’s the only thing he can think of that sounds logical on why he can’t stay.

The truth is he isn’t needed anywhere. He doesn’t have people waiting back home for him anymore because they’re either dead or don’t remember who he is, and he can’t make them remember at the risk of breaking the multiverse and hurting them with the double lives he leads. Strange had said it would catch up to him, he just never thought the consequence would be the death of the only person left who had loved him since the day he was born.

He can’t let himself go there, not yet, but Eddie is- He thinks Eddie’s hot, that much is obvious. He did sleep with the guy. But he’s scared to take a closer look at his actual feelings. Not when there’s still Taylor to think about. No, wait, he’s made his decision, he- he needs to stop. So he shakes himself out of it, and just as he’s about to turn to the TV, Eddie turns his head towards him, and, oh, he’s closer than Buck thought.

“You okay?” he asks with a small frown.

“Uh-” Buck’s eyes involuntarily drop to Eddie’s lips. Shit, no, what is he doing? “Yeah, no, I’m fine.”

“Buck.” Eddie huffs out a breath. “You’re thinking so hard I can almost hear it.” he adds with amusement.

“It’s nothing.” Buck shakes his head, and then- then he leans closer to Eddie, involuntarily, as if pulled by some invisible string. What is he doing? “I don’t know, this is all-” he scoffs, “I made quite a mess, didn’t I?”

“Oh.” Eddie’s eyes widen. “Oh, are we- are we finally talking about this?” he asks, and the thing is, they did talk, a little bit, that day Eddie asked him to hang out again, but they never really discussed everything. Like feelings, and why it all happened, and what’s next, and Eddie- Eddie said he’d wait until Buck decides. He did. He thought he did.

“I don’t know. I don’t- I don’t really feel like talking.” he whispers, and doesn’t think about it when he kisses Eddie
