Inside Bobby’s office is a man dressed in a suit. He’s standing, looking out the window, and turns when he hears Buck close the door behind them. “Firefighters Buckley and Diaz, I presume.”
“Why is my name always first?” Buck mumbles to Eddie. Eddie nudges him because now is not the time. This looks serious.
“That’s us, what’s going on?” Eddie asks. He glances at Bobby who is sitting in his seat with his arms crossed, a disappointed look on his face. Now Eddie is starting to get seriously worried. Did something happen with Christopher? Or did they do something wrong at a call without realising?
“My name is Jason McKinley,” the man says, holding out his hand to shake theirs. Eddie does, feeling a little numb. He waits for the man– Jason to continue. “We have been made aware that you’ve been keeping your relationship from us.”
Eddie glances at Buck, “You’re seeing someone?”
“I’m not?” Buck sounds just as confused, “You are?”
“No,” Eddie responds. “Not since Marisol.”
“This isn’t a joke,” Bobby speaks up. He almost sounds angry. “Lying to HR, keeping a serious relationship from them, that’s breaking the rules. It’s a serious offense.”
“But we’re not lying about anything?” Buck answers, though it sounds more like a question. “What the hell is going on?”
“You can give up the act,” Jason says, “As of now, you are both under review. We are looking into all the calls of the past several months to determine if you’re fit to work together. However, since you broke the rules, there will be consequences. This will go into your files, promotions will be difficult.”
First snippet of the 'didn't know they were dating' fic I teased yesterday (which blew up, damn). Still trying to decide whether I will keep it for Buddie Week or will post it asap

Summary: When a callout goes wrong and a bridge collapses, the whole team is in peril. Including (Y/n) and their unborn baby.
Enjoy.

"Oh, damn." Evan leaned his forehead against the window, feeling the cool glass blistering into his skin like it was melting through his head. He pressed the tip of his nose against the glass to try and get a better view of the scene building up in front of them.
A smile rose to his lips when he felt (Y/n)'s cheek on his arm and she leaned across him to try and get a look at the scene and see what they were going to walk into.
She pulled her lower lip between her teeth and sighed when she saw the mess on the road ahead. An RV was turned on its side, blocking off most of the road ahead and at least three other cars had collided and were crashed or turned upside down.
(Y/n) moved her hand to Evan's thigh to steady herself when Bobby turned onto the hard shoulder and started bumping across the uneven ground and over the potholes. The hard shoulder was their best bet to get close to the scene.
When the truck pulled to a stop, (Y/n) tore off her headphones and followed Evan down out the truck with Eddie and then Chimney behind her. Hen was driving the ambulance which she managed to park just shy of the accident on the road rather than the hard shoulder.
Pursing her lips, (Y/n) placed a hand on her hip and tried not to let her shoulders sag as she followed the team over to the hard shoulder barrier. Great. Both Bobby and Evan climbed up and over the barrier with ease and Chimney swung his legs over and hopped across. There wasn't much chance of (Y/n) making a graceful swoop across it like she would of been able to a few months ago.
Not now she was twenty-nine weeks pregnant.
"Need a hand, mi amor?" Eddie slumped his helmet on his head and moved his other hand to (Y/n)'s back between her hips.
He kissed the side of her head, mindful that his helmet didn't bash into her temple before he sat on the barrier and held his hand out.
(Y/n) smiled and took his hand, moving to sit on the barrier while Eddie swung his legs over and hopped down. He moved so he was stood in front of her and held both her hands, taking her weight and helping her down. She squeezed his hands and pecked his cheek, letting him keep hold of her hand and guide her over to where Bobby was assessing the scene.
"Okay, Chim, Buck I want you to get in the back of that RV, there's a woman trapped in there. Hen, we'll get the driver out. Eddie, go check the other drivers, anyone that can walk and get out, direct them to the other medics."
Everyone nodded at their directions and looked around before their gazes set on (Y/n) who was waiting patiently.
She already knew what she was going to be told. She could see it in Bobby's eyes, ready to give her the order that she was sick of hearing by now. The order to hang back and wait around to be a spare pair of hands for any medical emergencies.
She would be able to tend to anyone who needed medical help who could get out of their vehicles unaided. (Y/n) couldn't assist on this one. She couldn't get in that RV and get the women out, she couldn't help the other drivers from their cars or kneel down and try to give first aid and medical help to anyone that was stuck.
It was lucky that she had even been allowed out of the station and on this call at all.
"(Y/n), wait by the ambulance, when we get everyone out, you can assist as a medic."
In other words, watch and wait.
She nodded and folded her arms over her chest, letting them rest on her bump and press her florescent jacket down into her stomach. Her jacket barely zipped up over her stomach anymore and (Y/n) had worn Evan's jacket a few times even though she wasn't meant to for 'protocol reasons'.
"See you soon, babe." Evan murmured against her temple and gave her a quick kiss before he jogged off after Chimney towards the side door of the RV. They couldn't get in through the back doors which were completely jammed, they would have to bypass the driver and climb through to the back to get their victim out.
(Y/n) grinned when Eddie kissed her temple and she watched him flurry off too.
Waiting was the hard part. She didn't like waiting to help people, she just wanted to bustle in and help get everyone out safely and be useful rather than stand around waiting like a spare bag of parts nobody needed.
But she knew she couldn't help. The last time she tried, Evan got in her way and told her not to and Eddie went silent and kept giving her that look that let her know she was in trouble. It wouldn't be worth getting in the way to try and help and end up having the boys get angry at her and have Bobby tell her the rules again and again.
Her arms stayed folded over her stomach as if for protection and she took a few daring steps closer to the overturned RV. (Y/n) leaned down and peeked through the windscreen.
"Cap, we might have a spinal injury." Chimney's quiet voice came through the radio and (Y/n) pursed her lips. It was a good job dispatch was still on the line and contacting a different team. Airlifting the patient to the hospital was faster and safer than the bumpy road, moving and jostling her too much would only do her more damage.
Turning around, (Y/n) backtracked down the road, past the few cars that had swerved to a stop to try and assist and went towards the ambulance. She opened the back doors and hopped in, grabbing the two backboards they had stocked up. Once both boards were slumped on the gurney, (Y/n) clicked off the brakes and wheeled it down.
It was hard to steer the gurney when no one was stood at the other end, it was like moving a shopping trolley wityh a dodgy wheel and a lot of weight piled in. But she weaved between the cars like an expert driver and skidded to a stop just shy of the RV.
With one backboard in hand, (Y/n) headed over to the upturned vehicle and crouched down in front of the windshield the team had removed to get inside.
She ignored the pointed look she gained from Hen and kept low, shuffling inside and moving between the seats to pass the backboard across to Evan. "Here, I think Cap's contacted the air services, they'll be ready to take her in a minute."
(Y/n) bit down on her lip and dropped her gaze down to the woman Chimney was slipping a neckbrace on when she felt Evan's piercing gaze. His eyes did a sweep up and down of her and he took the board she handed out before he pointed back towards the front of the van.
"Out. You shouldn't be in here." His tone wasn't harsh but his words were firm.
They were cramped in the back as it was with broken glass, shattered cups, plates, broken metal and God knows whatever else littering the floor. (Y/n) didn't need to be in here risking a fall or a collision of any sort and she was on light duties which meant no heavy lifting either.
"Yes, bossy." (Y/n) murmured in response with her hands raised and she clocked the grin Chimney aimed her way before she turned around.
(Y/n) grabbed the headrests and used them to propel herself back through the mess and towards Hen who was crouched down with the driver. The young girl didn't look to be much older than (Y/n) and she had a severely broken leg, a few damaged ribs and a concussion. But she was awake and alert which was a good thing.
She patted Hen's shoulder and moved back through the windshield to grab the second backboard. And she bent down just on the threshold of the bonnet and went down on her knees to stop her legs from aching in a crouched position.
"Didn't you hear Buck?"
"He told me to get out, I'm not technically in there, am I?" (Y/n) placed the backboard in front of her knees so it was between her and the victim they needed to transport.
Bobby had been derailed over the other side of the bridge to help sort evacuations and make sure everyone else was getting out. Eddie was assessing another driver and there wasn't another fire unit here yet. Hen was going to have to wait for help or let (Y/n) help her get this girl out and in the ambulance. Both Evan and Chimney were occupied with the lady in the back.
"What's your name, honey?" She looked down at the girl with a bright smile and carefully slipped a neck brace on her while Hen made sure her leg was secured in a brace. They needed to keep the broken leg in place and stop any arteries or veins from bursting.
"Molly."
"Shall we get you in the ambulance, Molly?" She reached out and took the IV bag from Hen and placed it on her shoulder before she inched closer to Molly's shoulders so Hen could stay near her feet.
"What happened to light duty?" The pointed look on Hen's face was commanding but she kept her voice low enough so Evan couldn't hear. That was a sign that she wasn't going to tell or command (Y/n) to stop if she tried to help. Hen would only advise and tut.
"Please, like I'm not already doing heavy lifting. This baby probably weighs more than Molly." (Y/n) glanced her eyes down to her stomach. She was carting this child around all day and night, sharing the weight of a backboard for less than a minute wasn't going to hurt or strain (Y/n) anymore than normal.
She wasn't doing the firemans lift or carrying Molly by herself, it was only a few steps from the car to the gurney (Y/n) had moved as close as she could. She would be fine and they both knew it.
Hen rolled her eyes but sighed and gave in. They needed to get Molly in the ambulance and both women needed to be at the hospital. And (Y/n) wanted to help, Hen could see how desperate she was getting on calls to try and be of some use.
Molly groaned and closed her eyes tight when they lifted her up and carefully eased her onto the back board. Once she was secure, (Y/n) pushed into a crouching position and lifted her end of the board as Hen started to shuffle out the car.
They held her up between them and walked across to the gurney and carefully placed the board on top of the gurney. Hen held onto Molly and helped her lift up enough so (Y/n) could pull the board away and slump it down on the floor.
"See, easy transfer. Do you want to wait for your friend?" (Y/n) braced her hand on the back of the gurney and smiled encouragingly when Molly nodded.
The three of them watched as Evan and Chimney soon emerged from the windshield, backboard balanced between them level with their chests. They could get her straight in the chopper that had landed about fifty feet away, in the centre of the evacuated bridge. Once she was off, they could transfer Molly to the hospital and be out on their next call of the day.
(Y/n) tilted her head down and smiled at Molly as she said a quick goodbye to her friend who they mistook for her mother. But her lips pressed together tightly when she looked up at the same time as Evan frowned at her.
He had enough strength to hold the backboard with one hand as if it and the lady on top of it weighed nothing at all. The way his shoulder and bicep tensed made (Y/n) shiver but it was how Evan pointed his free hand at her that made her knees shake.
"You're in trouble." He muttered before holding the board properly again and following Chimney towards the chopper.
"Is he your partner?" Molly asked quietly, looking between both women when Hen snorted and laughed.
"One of them." Hen retorted with a cheesy grin but she straightened up when Bobby and Eddie started heading their way. It didn't take long for them to assess the situation, seeing Evan and Chimney handing over their patient to Lucy in the chopper. And when Bobby looked between (Y/n) and the gurney, his hands fell to his hips as he tried to gain his breath back.
"Alright, I want you both in the ambulance, get ready to transport. We'll finish up evacuating and wait for traffic control." Bobby pointed to the ambulance and (Y/n) and Hen both nodded.
He would wait until later to reprimand (Y/n) for not listening to him and waiting like he asked.
"I'm gonna check that van, see what's in the back."
"Good idea."
Eddie nodded and bypassed Bobby, resting his hand briefly on (Y/n)'s hip as he walked behind her. His fingers danced over the hem of her trousers and near her stomach before he headed off to see the van just ahead of them. He didn't like the thought of leaving without checking to make sure no one was unconscious and trapped in the back. And he wanted to check what was in the back. It wouldn't be the first time they had a van caught up in a collision with dangerous chemical tanks in the back.
"Let's get you ready to go."
(Y/n) nodded at Hen and followed her lead, pushing the end of the gurney as Hen wheeled the front and trailed towards the ambulance. It was much easier when there was some weight on the gurney and two people to steer it in the right direction.
When they got to the ambulance, a silent exchange passed between them and they silently agreed. Hen would dirve the ambulance. (Y/n) didn't like driving either the ambulance or the truck, it made her nervous. And her stomach was starting to get in the way of the steering wheel.
Once the gurney was in the back, (Y/n) locked it in place and set the saline IV bag off her shoulder and on the end near Molly's feet so the wire wouldn't get tangled.
"Do you want some morphine for the pain?" She could see Molly's mangled leg was going to cause her some discomfort and she was still crying. Although she was trying to hold strong and take deep breaths, all Molly wanted to do was cry and wail.
"Please."
(Y/n) leaned across the stackers and found some bottled morphine, filling a needle which she then carefully injected into Molly's right leg.
"Will I need surgery?"
Tilting back, (Y/n) leaned to the right and took a look at her leg. The break wasn't puncturing through any muscle and the bone wasn't exposed through the skin. She would need it setting back in place and a pot on her leg, but that didn't necessarily require surgery.
"I wouldn't think so, just a cast and no driving for a few months." She smiled as she busied herself putting a pulse monitor on Molly's finger just as a precaution and to keep check on her vitals. She could already feel the ambulance pulling away, ready to head down to the hospital.
"God, we were supposed to be on a road trip, not a hospital trip." Molly tilted her head back and dragged her fingers through her hair, brushing the tangled strands away from her eyes and off her sweaty forehead. She could feel herself wanting to cry again and a sob caught in the back of her throat. But when she turned to look at (Y/n), she let her eyes linger on her stomach and her expression softened. "Is it your first?"
A soft smile formed on (Y/n)'s lips and she nodded as her eyes cast down to her stomach. This was technically her first pregnancy, but they had Chris waiting for them at home and he had started calling (Y/n) his mum and referring to Evan as pops. He prided himself on telling people he had a mum and two dads at home.
"Do you know what you're having?"
"No, but my money's on a boy." The three of them had decided to keep it a surprise, but that didn't stop them from guessing and speculating.
(Y/n) thought it would be a boy, mainly because then she would be outnumbered and fully surrounded by four boys. But she knew Eddie wanted a girl and Evan guessed it was a girl, although he was just excited to have a baby in his arms soon enough.
She could see Molly's smile spreading and she was about to say something else, most likely ask another question to distract herself from the pain and uncertainty she felt. But she stopped herself when she realised (Y/n)'s soft, motherly look had switched to confused, tense brows and pursed lips.
Why were they going backwards?
She knew Hen had turned the ambulance around when she pulled up, all she had to do was veer to the left and go straight. She didn't have any reason to be reversing. And they were in the middle of the road, at this angle, where could she be reversing to?
"Hen?"
"I-"
(Y/n) slammed both her hands down on the gurney and locked her knees when the ambulance shuddered.
What the Hell was that?
It didn't stop. It felt like the tyres were coming loose and rolling away as the back end of the ambulance dropped down a few feet, tilting everything at an odd angle. (Y/n) leaned her weight on the gurney that thankfully stayed locked in place and didn't move towards the back doors, but she could feel her heart jumping into her throat when the ambulance started to move.
Somehow, that didn't feel like Hen's driving. That felt like they were going down a slope. How could they be going down a slope when they were on a bridge?
"What's happening?"
(Y/n) didn't have the answer to that. She couldn't bring herself to look down at Molly and try to lie to her and give reassurance. (Y/n) wanted reassurance herself, but she knew she wasn't going to get it.
She looked ahead towards the front of the ambulance and what she saw out the windscreen terrified her. She could see the bridge. Great cracks in the concrete floor like tree roots sprouting from the earth broke apart the floor in great chunks. It looked as if the road was made of polysterine and someone had snapped it in half.
They were falling off the bridge. Where were they going to land? How were they going to land? Would they all be crushed?
"No! No!" Evan bashed his palms against the side of the ambulance, moving in the opposite direction. But he didn't know what he was trying to do or how he thought he could help or stop such a large vehicle like that. Telling it to stop wasn't going to work and he couldn't hold it up in any way.
As the ambulance veered down to the left, plummeting towards the ground below where gravity was at its strongest, Evan tried running to the right. He hurried along the crumbling tarmac, avoiding falling chunks of stone, shattered pieces of glass and large slumps of brick and concrete.
His hands crashed down on the bonnet of the ambulance and a terrified scream left his lips when he could no longer feel the ground beneath his feet.
He had nothing to hang onto. Nothing was around for Evan to grab when the half of the bridge he was stood on was falling towards the ground and he was too far gone to try and reach for the remaining bridge that was still standing.
His breath caught in his lungs and his stomach lurched up towards his throat when his feet left the floor and for a split second, maybe two, he was falling. He didn't fall for as long as he thought he would. It felt just like Evan had dreamt he was about to fall off a cliff. Just as his body fell, he jolted awake.
In the space of a second, his body crashed against the ambulance which broke his fall and knocked him out.
***
Throbbing aches pulsed through Evan's body with his blood like he was a duke box radiating waves of pain out into the air. He found the strength to open his eyes but he had to focus his vision and find out where the blood was coming from that was dripping onto the windscreen.
His nose. God, it ached and pounded like someone had punched him. But when his gloved fingertips dabbed against his nose, he was relieved to find it still in tact and in place; it wasn't broken.
He could feel the blood welling up in his mouth and when his lips parted, blood and spit dribbled off his tongue and teeth and onto the broken windscreen that was holding him up.
He didn't feel safe.
He wasn't so sure how strong the ambulance was or if this sheet of glass was going to keep him up for very long. And when he focused his eyes past the blood and into the ambulance, he had the perfect view of Hen. No blood, no obvious breaks or abrasions, but no movement either.
"Hen? Hen?" His voice crackled through the radio, but she stayed silent and unconscious. "Bobby? Bobby… Captain Nash, do you copy?"
No response.
"Chim?"
"I'm good, I'm up on the bridge, no damage done to me this time."
He was up top. That was some good news. He had access to the truck and the winch and harnesses and any equipment Evan might need to find the rest of their team and get them out safely. He didn't have to climb his way back up to the top of the bridge if Chimney was already stationed up there and unharmed.
"Eddie?" Evan gulped as he spoke his partner's name. He was desperate for an answer, but unsure whether he wanted to actually hear it or not.
He didn't want to imagine whereabouts Eddie was. Evan didn't see him on the bridge, nor did he see Bobby either just before it collapsed. He didn't want to guess where his boyfriend was or if he was hurt or okay or unconscious.
"Ugh, I- I'm in the van, a-and I'm stuck." Whatever else Eddie murmured was too quiet for Evan to hear.
Evan leaned over the side of the ambulance as carefully as he could to get a look around. What van was Eddie in? Was it back up on the bridge, or was it somewhere beneath them in all this debree and mess? He got his answer when he looked down. The ambulance was resting on top of a van, and Evan would bet any luck that it was the van his boyfriend was trapped in.
"Oh, I've broken a few ribs." Eddie hissed and closed his eyes, trying to take deep breaths but it only made the pain worse. So he switched to short, panting breaths that were shallow enough that it didn't burn his ribs or make them twitch and ache. But a sudden thought sent his blood curdling and made his breaths hitch even faster. "(Y/n)? Fuck, baby are you okay?"
He hadn't heard her through the radio.
Neither of the boys had.
"(Y/n)?"
"I- oh, I'm here- I'm awake." She didn't know what to say. She wasn't sure if she was okay, but she was awake and somewhat alert and the boys needed to know that.
It took some effort to open her eyes and once she did, (Y/n) tried to look around and gather her bearings.
She was on the floor.
She was wedged in the corner of the ambulance, very close to the back doors which she hoped wouldn't swing open and make her fall.
Her eyes danced around the ambulance and she let out a shaky breath when she looked over herself. Poor Molly was curled up on the stretcher, trying to balance and stay upright as she sobbed and trembled like a leaf. And (Y/n) had both legs stretched out, awkwardly slumped beneath the gurney which luckily hadn't run over her legs in the struggle.
But when she looked down to her left, her lips pulled down in a grimace and she sniffed. The gurney had broken. Part of the metal frame had snapped off and it had sliced against the upper side of her left arm.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, a few scrapes… I think my knee's dislocated. The baby's moving, that's a- a good sign, right?"
"That's good." Eddie gruffed, trying to catch his breath and remain calm but it was getting increasingly hard when he was stuck like a mouse in a trap.
It took some effort for (Y/n) to wriggle her right arm out of her jacket and she reached behind her to grab the back of her jacket. She leaned to the right, slowly peeling her arm away from the metal pole from the gurney. She slowly dragged her jacket off her left arm that was starting to burn and ignite. Once it was off, she looked down at her arm and took another deep, shuddering breath.
The metal had sliced right through the skin, separating it down near the muscle. But at least it wasn't impaled in her arm or cut through to the bone; small mercies.
"Molly, can you pass me a pack from that drawer? It should have some gauze and packing in." She held her hand out and pointed towards the cupboard just above the gurney. She needed some gauze to pack and bind her arm until it could be stitched up.
"This?"
"Hm."
Once she had it, (Y/n) ripped the plastic packaging with her teeth and unfolded the bandage glued to some large cotton padding. She bound it tight around her arm, grimacing and stiffling a moan when she pulled it as tight as she could to stem the bleeding.
"Are you okay?" (Y/n) tilted her head back against the wall and looked across at Molly. She hoped the gurney had softened any wounds or bruises Molly might have gotten in the fall. She looked okay, and she shakily nodded. Nothing was wrong apart from her previous injuries.
(Y/n) managed a tight-lipped smile and she kept her left arm tight to her side to try and ignore the throbbing ache and each pulse of her heartbeat that sent her arm thudding. She flopped her hand on her stomach and started to glide her fingertips up and down.
She could feel the baby moving. That had to be a good sign. She wasn't hurt anywhere else apart from her arm and her knee which she just knew was dislocated. Maybe a few bruises here and there, but (Y/n) prayed no harm or damage had been done to the baby. They were kicking and wriggling which she took as a good sign and it was comforting. If she felt nothing at all, she would of been crying in panic.
Reaching her hand out, (Y/n) pressed her right hand into the floor and closed her eyes, trying to steady herself and take a deep breath when the ambulance moved.
Evan was climbing through the window into the front to try and talk to Hen and bring her back round.
Evan patted Hen's shoulder when the smelling salts in his pocket brought her back round. He smiled and checked her over before he peered into the back of the ambulance. He couldn't see (Y/n) at first. But after a second look around, he realised she was stretched out on the floor in the far right corner.
"How you doing back there?"
(Y/n) smiled but it faded to a grimace and she closed her eyes when the ambulance shuddered. She prayed it wouldn't move until they had it on a winch and tied off. The last thing they needed was another fall.
"Get her out." Eddie slammed his hands down on the floor and tried to dig his fingertips into the metal to drag himself out, but he couldn't. From his waist downwards, he was imbedded in a pile of rubbish and furniture that was squeezing down on his ribs and making his legs go numb.
"I need to get you first-"
"Get. Her. Out."
"Eddie if I do that and the weight shifts you'll get crushed. Chim, get the winch set up I need harnesses and clips to secure this ambulance so it doesn't fall. As soon as I get Eddie, me and Hen can get the girls out."
"I'm not going anywhere." (Y/n) spoke softly into the radio and nodded across at Evan.
She was safe and secure for now, she wasn't bleeding out or in dire pain or need of a doctor. (Y/n) and Molly were okay to wait in here, they had medicine and equipment and all the first aid tools they needed for an emergency.
Once Evan freed Eddie, he and Chimney could secure the ambulance and get everyone out and then they could work on finding Bobby who hadn't called in his location yet. They had to have a system and they had to work this like any other call. Eddie couldn't call the shots and take a dangerous risk with his safety because he wanted his girlfriend out first. Evan wanted her out too. Evan wanted her and the baby safe and sound but he couldn't risk crushing their partner in order to do that.
"Okay, hang tight and I'll be as quick as I can."
Evan didn't wait for Chimney to send down a harness. He shuffled out of the ambulance, keeping tight hold wherever he could and scuffed his boots against the side to scrape down the rubble and get down. He felt like he was rolling down the snow on the side of a mountain, trying to safely reach the bottom.
He stumbled once he was on firm ground and his knees shook when gravity got hold of him once again. He rounded to the back of the van that was squashed between the broken concrete and being crushed down with the ambulance resting on the top.
"Eddie? Babe, you in there?"
"Yep."
"Alright." Evan tried the doors but they were jammed, he wasn't getting in without a set of jaws. He turned on his heels and took a look around, feeling like a tidal wave of relief had crashed over him when he noticed another station pulling up along with some police.
Just the help he needed.
Whoever got out the truck with a set of jaws was a lifesaver and Evan didn't give them time to question him or complain. He confiscated the jaws from their hands and bolted back over to the van.
Once the doors were cut open, Evan wrenched and yanked on the door until it swung loose and almost hit him in the face. It took his eyes a few seconds to adjust to the bright streams of sunlight that poured behind him and lit up the previously damp, musty van.
He squinted and leaned down to try and locate his boyfriend.
There he was. All Evan could see was Eddie's arms, head and shoulders, the rest of him was cut off with chairs, odd bits of furniture and God knows what else this van was carrying.
Evan climbed up and looked around, wincing when Eddie grabbed the back of his boot to stay stable and secured to something. There wasn't time to try and dig Eddie out of this mess by hand. He couldn't start removing every item and uncover Eddie, it would take too long and be a lot of work and pain.
"Buck…" Eddie rolled his lips together and reached his hand up. He wanted out. He needed out, now.
"You know this is gonna hurt?"
Something flashed across Eddie's eyes as he rose a brow and huffed. The look almost made Evan laugh whereas his words only seemed to irritate Eddie, but he nodded all the same. He didn't care if it hurt, he just needed to get out and get some feeling back in his body and move. They needed to go and get (Y/n) and they had wasted enough time already.
He still wasn't happy Evan had come down to free him first. He should of got (Y/n) out, she was their priority.
With a deep breath, Evan crouched down and held out his right hand until Eddie grabbed it with a fierce grip. He held Eddie's elbow with his other hand, nodded down at him and started to pull.
"Aghh… Fuck!" Eddie slammed his right hand down on the floor and screamed when something sharp grated against his right hip. He bashed his gloved hand down again and again and kicked his legs until Evan dragged him enough to shimmy his hips free.
As soon as Evan started to walk backwards, Eddie crushed his knees into the floor and crawled as he finally got free from his cage.
He stumbled up onto his feet and flopped against Evan's chest as his knees gave way. He took a few deep breaths, feeling Evan's hand let go of his elbow and move to cradle the back of his neck instead. Each breath Evan took fanned against the side of Eddie's head and tickled the shell of his ear, but it felt comforting.
When he felt Evan press a kiss just behind his ear, it seemed to snap Eddie back into reality and he gave his partner a tight squeeze before he pulled back and stood on his own two feet again.
His arm flopped out across the back of Evan's shoulders and he leaned his temple against the side of Evan's head as they slowly climbed out the van. Eddie cradled his left hand against the right side of his chest, wincing and hissing through his breaths. He had a few breaks, two at the least, possibly as many as four broken ribs.
God, he was going to be in pain for the next few weeks.
"Alright, go sit down. I'm gonna rig up and get them out the ambulance." Evan looked over his shoulder but he hated the sudden anger and pain that pooled in Eddie's eyes and made his upper lip curl.
"We're getting (Y/n) out."
"Babe you're injured, let me do this."
He could see that Eddie was in pain and a harness was only going to amplify that pain. Broken ribs could lead to a punctured lung, the last thing Evan wanted or needed was Eddie suffocating and breathing into his chest cavity. He could watch and wait and when (Y/n) was out he could help and get in another ambulance with her.
"That's our girl and our baby, I'm not waiting around. I'm coming with you." He wasn't sitting back like a useless ornament and letting Evan do this on his own.
That was their girlfriend and their unborn baby up there, Eddie was going up to get them out whether Evan agreed to this or not.
"Guys, I've secured the ambulance to the truck, going down for Molly now." Hen spoke into her radio and nodded up at Chimney who was leaning over the side of the bridge to check everything was going smoothly.
Hen barged the side door to the ambulance open and stood on the threshold. "Alright (Y/n), I'm gonna get Molly down, and then Buck should be able to get you out, okay?"
The harness she wore was tight and cutting into her chest that already felt a little worse for wear. She was closest to Molly, it would be easier to rig Molly onto a harness and get her down. Then the boys could climb in and get (Y/n) out between them and get her to safety.
She hooked her hands beneath Molly's arms and gently eased her up onto the end of the gurney so she could get a harness round her.
"Oh god."
"(Y/n)?" Hen paused in her administrations, halfway through with strapping the spare harness around Molly when (Y/n) gasped.
"No, no, oh boys…" Terror flooded (Y/n)'s voice as she dug her fingers so tightly into the radio on her shoulder that she almost snapped it in two. She could feel her body beginning to shake and her eyes closed as tightly as she could manage.
She needed the boys. Now.
"Baby what's wrong?" Evan latched his free hand around Eddie's shoulder and held onto him tight, stopping him from trying to get a harness on.
What was happening in that ambulance? Why was (Y/n) beginning to cry?
"I- oh, I think my water broke."

To hum and sway (bucktommy, 1.4k words)
[read on ao3]
Spoilers/Spec-fic for 7x06 "There Goes The Groom" After the wedding that wasn’t, and the wedding that was, after the search, and the rescue, and the drama of the day, Buck finds himself sitting in the hospital waiting room when Tommy turns up...
Now that Chimney’s been moved out of the ICU, the hospital staff have kindly set up a cot bed in his room for Maddie to get some rest beside him, while Buck stands—or rather–-sits sentry outside. While his sister clearly couldn’t have predicted she’d be reading out her vows standing between a heart-rate monitor and an IV stand, Buck’s just glad she was able to read them out to Chim at all.
A nurse shuffles past Buck down the corridor, and he pulls his legs back from where they’d been obnoxiously extended in his late-night exhaustion. He runs a hand through his hair, grimacing at the bright fluorescent lights of the waiting room before stretching his neck and shoulders until he hears a satisfying pop.
His hands clench into tight fists on either side of the chair he’s sat in, and he grips them tightly until his knuckles are white and the pain of his own nails digging into the flesh of his palms is enough to distract the guilt spiral he’s been fending off all day.
Maddie and Chimney will get their big-day. Buck will make sure of it. They’ll have the party that they rightly deserve, surrounded by their friends and family. A happy day, a calm day. The quiet, intimate ceremony in their own back garden that they’d wanted all along before losing track of the guestlist.
But that would be later. When they were both ready, and recovered. At least for now they got to wear the rings. At least they got to call each other husband and wife.
Finally.
“Evan?” Buck’s head shoots up from where he’d been lying back, leaning his heavy head against the wall.
There were so few people who called him by his given name nowadays...
His parents had long since left to do what they referred to as “damage control” with the guests and venue—since the rest of the 118 were more concerned with Maddie and Chimney than appeasing distant relatives who had traveled just so gosh darn far, Evan.
He’d corrected Bobby almost instantly on that first day so many years ago, that his name was Buck, and besides, his captain was currently driving Mr and Mrs Lee back home for the evening after spending so many hours in the same holding pattern of he’s stable—that’s the main thing—until Chimney had finally woken up and insisted with a raspy voice, that his Captain marry he and Maddie right then, right now...
And Eddie? Eddie had only ever called him Evan the once.
(Buck would be lying if he said he didn’t think about that moment often…)
But no, it wasn’t him either; Eddie was with Hen, roaming the corridors for a vending machine that worked until Bobby came back to bully them all into finally getting into his truck and going home. So that just left…
“Tommy? W-what are you—?”
“I came as soon as I heard he’d been found. How’s Howie doing? How’s your sister?”
Buck’s brain struggles to keep up, his software in need of an update—Tommy’s here, standing in front of him. In the hospital corridor. Buck’s phone was god knows where, and with Chimney missing and his sister losing her mind with worry, he hadn’t had a chance to think about the fact he’d accidentally ghosted his date. But here he was. Standing in front of Buck like a guardian angel who’d done more than his own fair share to help in the search—all the while still wearing the clothes he’d put on as Buck’s plus one to the wedding that never happened that morning.
This is probably the closest thing to flustered he’s seen Tommy look the whole time he’s known him, and if the circumstances were different Buck thinks he would have found it endearing—but his head’s too much of a mess to even go there right now. The soft blue shirt he’s wearing is rumpled now but Buck just knows it would have been pressed and clean to start with. The slacks and matching suit jacket are both a wooly kind of mauve. Buck thinks it would have been nice to press up against the material as they slow-danced at the end of the evening. The lights would be dimmed, while the wedding band played something slow. He wonders if his parents would have noticed. He finds he also doesn’t really care.
He remembers Maddie and Chimney’s kiss under a symphony of high-pitched beeps, and the mumbled static of a tannoy announcement requesting a doctor’s presence in triage. Jee had clapped her hands in Mrs Lee’s arms before pretending to throw invisible flowers in the air just like she’d practiced with her uncle Buck.
How’s Howie doing? How’s your sister?
“They’re—” Buck falters when he finally answers, genuinely unsure in the grand scheme of things. If he were to answer literally, he’d say they were sleeping. But emotionally? Physically?
“They’re…”
Chimney’s in the hospital. Maddie almost lost him again, and if Buck looks down, he knows he’ll find that there’s still patches of dried blood on the sleeves of his ruined pink jacket—remnants of the day, along with the pounding behind his eyes that he just can’t seem to shake.
Tell Maddie—
No, no Chim, don’t you dare make me do that, you can tell her yourself, okay? Just stay with me. Eddie’s gone to get help and Maddie’s waiting for you to come home—
“They’re married!” Buck finishes with a laugh that’s incredulous only so far as the circumstances of the last twenty four hours have made him seriously question his own sanity. Or maybe that’s just the last dregs of adrenaline leaving his head in a spin.
“Bobby performed the ceremony, but Chimney wore the white-gown this time.”
He’s deflecting. He’s searching for humor, for the laugh to be had at the absurdity of it all. He’s the class clown disrupting the other kids because he didn’t hear what the teacher said and he’s trying not to panic. He’s overcompensating at the academy because he has no support system to speak of in LA, and he needs this. He wants this. He can’t flunk out. He can’t fail.
He’s pushing and pushing and pushing to see where the boundary lies, to see how far he can go before he disappoints the family he’s found at the 118. He wants to know where that line in the sand is. How long until the tide comes in? How long until he drowns?
He’s….. he’s exhausted. And when Tommy tilts his head to the side and frowns, reading Buck like an open book of sad tells, suddenly the effort to keep the mask in place is too much. His shoulders slump and Buck’s whole body hunches forward with the weight of the day pressing down on him—only to find Tommy’s arms there ready to catch him when he falls.
“He nearly died,” Buck whispers into the crook of Tommy’s neck as he’s embraced. “Chim nearly died and if we hadn’t found him when we did….”
His voice cracks, the words seemingly too painful to even speak into the universe. Buck can’t bear to say more, and Tommy doesn’t ask him to either, he just pulls him in closer, squeezes him that little bit tighter, and holds him there for as long as he needs. He brings his hand up to the back of Buck’s neck, gently kneads at the knot he finds there. Cradles him like he’s something precious and deserving when for so long he’s convinced himself of the opposite.
After a time, when Buck’s breathing starts to even out, the hitch in his chest seemingly dissolved into the atmosphere, and the shock has thawed enough for him to feel the soft material of Tommy’s jacket under his fingertips, he finds that Tommy has been slowly moving their bodies into a sway. Leading, just a little bit—really they’re barely moving at all—but if Buck pretends, he thinks he can hear music playing.
“You said you wanted to dance,” Tommy says; answering the question Buck hadn’t gathered up the courage to ask yet. For the first time in hours, Buck’s mind goes quiet.
“Thank you,” he whispers a little self-consciously when the words catch in his throat.
Thank you for coming, thank you for holding me, thank you for being here with no judgment and no expectations. Thank you for caring when we barely even know each other. Thank you for treating me kindly, for being gentle and soft when all day I’ve felt like I was being strangled with barbed wire. Thank you.
When Tommy hums in response, Buck can’t help but lean into the embrace, finding solace in his arms. He can feel the warmth of his breath drifting along the side of his neck, soothing the goosebumps that reside there.
And when he presses a soft kiss on the stubble of Tommy’s jaw, it tickles.

Weekly Recap | March 25th-31st 2024
Tumblr media
Happy late Easter if you celebrate! I had four days off soooooo as you can see, this is a long one 😆 (honestly feels like I spent the entire fucking day working on this!!)
OMG those stills last week? That episode synopsis? can't WAIT for 7x04 !!!!
(There's a couple of people not tagged, if you know them, please tag the min the comments!)
Complete
🔥 A Million Pretty Pieces by ShesLikeTexas / @shesliketexas-17 (Sentinel/Guide AU, Canon Divergent, SEAL!Buck | 251K | Teen): After enduring countless procedures to save his older brother, Evan Buckley is only four-years-old when he manifests as the youngest Guide in human history. The Global-Sentinel-Guide-Association brings one of their finest mentors, Bobby Nash, out of retirement to help train the young Guide.
When You Gimme Those Ocean Eyes by Princessfbi/ @princessfbi (Post-Tsunami, Mermaid!Buck | 5K | General): The loft was dark and stilted like Buck hadn’t even bothered to turn on the lights when he got home but the air was thick with moisture. Maddie heard the shower first and then the pitiful, pained whimper next. “Buck!” Maddie moved in through the loft to the bathroom and pushed open the door. She was met with a face of trapped steam that seeped into her skin and made her lungs release a tension she didn’t know she’d been holding. But that tension returned tenfold as she flipped on the light. Buck stared up at her, tired and scared, from where he was slumped in the corner of his shower. (Part 1 of 🔥Mermaid AU)
Fallin’ Into Your Ocean Eyes by Princessfbi / @princessfbi (Mermaid!Buck, Getting Together | 21K | Mature): “Do you trust me?” Buck asked, as he nuzzled his nose against Eddie’s. “You know I do.” “Good,” Buck said, pecking him on his lips again before he pulled away and kicked off his boots. “I need you to hold my pants.” Buck hooked his thumbs in the waistline of his jeans and pushed them down in a blink of an eye. If Eddie’s face could get any redder, it would, but the heat of his gaze had Buck shoving down a shiver that raced up his spine. He handed Eddie his jeans and pulled off his shirt. “This is weird,” Eddie mumbled as Buck handed his clothes to him. “I hope you realize this is weird.” (Part 2 of 🔥Mermaid AU)
A Diamond Mind and Those Ocean Eyes by Princessfbi/ @princessfbi (Mermaid!Buck | 35K | Teen): “Buck…” Eddie wheezed, his eyes rolling in his head. Maddie snapped her gaze down to look at him and almost burst into tears at the sight. Eddie’s sun kissed skin was deathly pale, with blue tinging his lips and dark circles under his eyes. Buck never would’ve left him. Not like this. “Eddie!” Maddie said, shaking him herself. “Where’s Buck?” Eddie wheezed and said, “… boat.” Then Eddie stopped breathing and Chimney started CPR. (Part 3 of 🔥Mermaid AU)
Work It Like The Rent's Due by Loverlylo/ @theloverlylo (Stripper!Buck | 4K | Teen): Look, the cost of living in Los Angeles is insane, and public servants make nothing. Lacking savings, an inheritance, or a spouse with a high-earning job, Buck turns to a side gig to help pay is rent. And what side gig is perfect for a gorgeous man with no shame? If you guess stripping, you win.
the music moves me (right onto your lap) by KaztielCS118 (Stripper!Eddie | 4K | Mature): Eddie used to be a strip dancer, he shows Buck just how good he is.
🔥 I want to be your fantasy (maybe you could be mine) by 42hrb/ @exhuastedpigeon (Bachelor Party | 7K | Explicit): Eddie stopped just outside the doors, a hand on Buck's arm to stop him from going inside. “Buck I have to tell you something and you’re not allowed to say shit about it okay?” “Of-of course,” Buck was a little worried at how serious Eddie was being, but it probably wasn't anything that bad if he was going to tell Buck something and then go into a pole dancing class. “I’m going to be really good at this class,” Eddie said, his voice low. “Because one of my jobs before moving to L.A. was stripping. You’re the first person who didn’t work at the club or go to the club to know that and I’d prefer if it stayed that way.”
pauses, then says by vstars (S7E4 Speculation | 1K | Teen): or, Eddie checks up on Buck after an accident at the basketball court
Wrong Side of Heaven by TearsThisSideofHeaven (MCU AU, Post-Snap | 8K | Mature): In the moment, Buck wonders if this is the end of the world. Later, he’ll find himself wishing it had been. Or: the post-Thanos 9-1-1 AU that's been rattling around in the author's brain for literally years.
too tired to keep lying by extasiswings/ @extasiswings (S7E6 Spec, Madney Wedding | 1K | Teen): “But someone has to tell everyone that there’s—” Buck’s voice cracks. A shudder wracks him and Eddie’s hold tightens. “—that there’s not going to be a wedding today.” “There could be.” “What?” Eddie swallows hard, pulling back enough that his eyes can meet Buck’s. “There could still be a wedding today.”
do you want to know a secret by bucksclipboard/ @excuseme-greentea (S7, Getting Together | 3K | Teen): Buck overworks himself and his family worries. When Eddie overhears a conversation between Maddie and Chimney, he learns he might just have caused Buck’s change in behavior. The good news is – there’s something he can do about it.
🔥 If I Never Hear Your Voice Again by actualalligator/ @actualalligator (Canon Divergent, Post-S3E1 Kids Today, Online Friendship | 21K | Mature): After the pulmonary embolism, Buck starts to experience nerve pain and intermittent weakness in his leg. He undergoes another surgery, but when it does not help, he is medically retired from the LAFD. Chimney gets him a video game so they can play it together, but one night it leads him right to Eddie, a single dad from Texas, desperate to make ends meet. They strike up a friendship that eventually leads to more while they work through depression, a move, some new jobs, and a lot of other life stuff.
The One Where The 118 Play "Never Have I Ever" & Chaos Ensues. by dylaesthetics (S7, Getting Together | 3K | Teen): Or playing Never Have I Ever during a slow shift goes as well as you can probably expect.
Warmth of your Gratitude and Appreciation by Wildgirl93/ @wildlife4life (S7E3 Coda | 1K | Not Rated): Buck is coming down from the rush of the cruise rescue and Eddie takes him home.
Buck the Bachelor by terranobis (S7, Bachelor!Buck | 41K | Not Rated): When an emergency at the Bachelor mansion leads to Buck becoming the Bachelor, Buck and Eddie begin to realize that there might be more to their friendship than they thought.
you've ruined my life (by not being mine) by ummrys (S7E4 Spec | 2K | Teen): Or, Buck gets a little (a lot) jealous of Eddie's blossoming friendship with Tommy Kinard, and makes some bad decisions about it.
🔥 Racing with the Brakes Cut by letmetellyouaboutmyfeels/ @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels (Fast&Furious AU | 61K | Explicit): When Eddie Diaz is offered an undercover job by the LAPD, he takes it so the money will take care of his son. But his mission to infiltrate The 118, a group of street racers suspected of hijacking trucks and selling the goods on the black market, goes awry when he meets Evan Buckley. The more time Eddie spends with Buck and his family, partnering with Buck to win the dangerous Race Wars, the harder it is to remember why he's really there. As the police breathe down his neck, Eddie will have to choose exactly which side he's on, and where his loyalties lie.
of epiphanies by tawaifeddiediaz / @tawaifeddiediaz (Post-S7E3, FWB Buck/Tommy, Buddie Getting Together | 4K | Teen): Or, the one where Buck doesn’t know what to do about Tommy, but somehow, he finds the love of his life anyway.
oh i wonder who i'm looking for by ipretendtobesane/ @useramor (Post-S7E3, Buck/Tommy | 2K | Mature): after 7x03, buck and tommy go to a bar
if i died last night (it would haunt me forever) by honestlydarkprincess/ @honestlydarkprincess (Post-S7E3, Love Confessions | <1K | Teen): Or, the one where Buck can't go another night without telling Eddie how he feels.
i love you if you even care by tinygiantsam/ @watchyourbuck (S7E4 Spec | 3K | Mature): 7x04 speculation where Buck gets jealous of Tommy, but hits Eddie with the basketball instead.
🔥 because we'll all arrive in heaven alive by callmenewbie/ @puppyboybuckley (Post-S6, Disaster Fic | 75K | Explicit): During a search and rescue, Eddie disappears without a trace, leaving Buck to grapple with the sudden possibility of a life without him.
a matching pair (we go together) by honestlydarkprincess/ @honestlydarkprincess (Getting Together | 1K | Teen): Or, the one where Eddie makes the team friendship bracelets.
be there on the next train by fleetinghearts/ @shitouttabuck (Getting Together | 1K | Teen): or, painkillers, pet names, and other sure-fire ways to finally tell your best friend you’re in love with him
slowly getting sober from the taste of your skin by honestlydarkprincess/ @honestlydarkprincess (S7, Getting Together | 11K | Teen): Or, the one where Eddie gets drunk and pines. Includes Maddie & Eddie friendship, lots of miscommunication, and a happy fluffy ending.
Left Unsaid by C_M2 (Post-Tsunami | 33K | Mature): The discovery of a small facebook group full of tsunami survivors rocks station 118.
it’s just the thought of you and what I leave behind by bucksclipboard/ @excuseme-greentea (Alternate S7E3 | 6K | Teen): As the cruise ship starts to sink, Bobby and Athena aren’t the only ones in desperate need of saving. The 118 goes on a high-risk mission and a close call brings Buck and Eddie together.

chafe the skin (you know i like it rough) by honestlydarkprincess/ @honestlydarkprincess (PWP, Getting Together | 6K | Explicit): Buck had a problem. A very, very big problem. Eddie hadn’t shaved in two days.
Love's No Pressure by kittyeddie (PWP, Established Buddie | 7K | Explicit): 5 times Buck and Eddie try to have sex but don't, and one time they finally get to
baby, can i hold you? by fleetinghearts/ @shitouttabuck (Post-S7E1, Hurt/Comfort | 3K | Teen): or, eddie panics. buck holds him.
WIP
🔥 for all the haunts and homes of men by euadnes/ @kananjarus (Canon Divergent, Post-Apocalyptic, Station Eleven Crossover | WIP | 13/? | 113K | Mature | Warning: Violence): The year by the old calendar is 2025. Home is gone. Home is a failed rescue mission and an echo of a memory. Home is a lost boy living in a wooden house by the sea. But first, there was a promise. Christopher, when it's safe, I'll take you back to your father. Buck had all but given up on keeping it after the world had died and everyone in it. But just as some oaths refuse to be forgotten, so the same can be said about the endurance of love.
Kiss Me Once Cause You Know I Had A Long Night by I_still_dont_understand_13 / @sherlockcrossing (Prompt collection | 29/? | 19K | Teen): 100 kiss prompts.
29. 71. Lingering forehead against forehead, consumed by each other to the point of barely having strength enough to breathe
🔥 Things We're All Too Young to Know by Daisies_and_Briar / @cal-daisies-and-briars (Canon S1-S6, S7 Spec | 123/? | 379K | Mature): This is a love story. Even if it doesn’t always look like it. Even if it doesn’t always feel like it. A look back on Eddie and Buck's lives up to now, and what led them to each other, interpreted from the current 9-1-1 canon.
Podfic
🔥 Still Waters by MilenaDaniels [Podfic] (@milenadaniels) by Rhea314 (Rhea)/ @rhea314 (Post-S4E14: Survivors | 45-60 minutes | Explicit): As Eddie lays on the hot pavement bleeding out, his eyes locked on Buck’s bloody face, his hand reaching out towards him, what washes over him isn’t his hard-earned stillness nor is it shock. It’s clarity, edging slowly into focus from off-stage. And when he wakes up in the hospital bed and registers a soft, slim hand in his, he thinks, "no, that’s not it". Or, Five Ways Eddie's Body Feels Different After the Shooting
🔥 Nights are mainly made for saying things that you can’t say tomorrow day by HMSLusitania [podfic](@hmslusitania) by Rhea314 (Rhea)/ @rhea314 (Camping Trip, Getting Together | 20-30 minutes | Not Rated): Coincidentally lacking children for a week, the firefam go camping together. Eddie would have a better time with it if he wasn't hiding a major secret.
🔥 What's Died Will Never Stay Dead by HMSLusitania [Podfic] (@hmslusitania) by Rhea314 (Rhea)/@rhea314 (The Old Guard AU, Bobby POV | 45-60 minutes | Teen): Bobby's family died in an apartment fire in St Paul, he was honest about that much. But it was in 1904, not 2014.
🔥 Which Witch (series) by HMSLusitania [Podfic] (@hmslusitania) by Rhea314 (Rhea) / @rhea314 (Witch!Eddie | 1-1.5 hours | Teen): It starts as a stupid conversation at the station. Chim, overly credulous, kicks them off with a quick, “Hey remember when we were jinxed because Probie said the q-word? Do you guys think there’s such a thing as actual magic?” In his defence, Eddie guesses, it really is a …q-word… shift and they don’t have anything better to do, everyone sprawled around on various pieces of furniture in the loft. Eddie had been playing a round of pool with Buck, but if they’re going to get into this conversation, he’s got to nip it in the bud. “Nope,” he says.
🔥 The Best Lie is a Truth (My Best Mask is My Face) by letmetellyouaboutmyfeels [podfic] (@letmetellyouaboutmyfeels) by Rhea314 (Rhea)/ @rhea314 (Post-S5, Fake Relationship | 4-5 hours | Explicit): The Buckleys are celebrating their 50th Anniversary, and Maddie and Buck are both expected to come. To take the heat off Maddie, Buck impulsively blurts out that he's seeing someone new. Obviously, there's only one solution: bring Eddie as his fake boyfriend, pretend to be in love with him, and survive the weekend with minimal bloodshed. No problem, except for the, uh. "Pretend" part. Oops.
🔥 right in front of your eyes by rainbow_nerds [podfic] (@rainbow-nerdss) by Rhea314 (Rhea) / @rhea314 (Fake Relationship | 1.5-2 hours | Teen): Buck offers to fake-date Eddie so Pepa will stop setting him up on dates.
🔥 Lifelines by hetrez [podfic] by Rhea314 (Rhea)/ @rhea314 (Canon Divergent, Tsunami | 2 hours | Teen): Buck said, "Look, I'm sorry I overheard that because it's personal, and you should be able to decide who gets to have that part of you." Eddie came out of his hunch a little and looked him in the eyes, and Buck felt a zing of giddy accomplishment. It maybe made him stupid. "But to be honest, I'm really flattered that Pepa thought a punk like me could get a guy like you." Eddie's eyes went huge, and under the sodium lights Buck could see his ears turning red. Just two strangers hanging out after a tsunami, talking about being in the closet.
🔥 Don't Take the Money by HMSLusitania [Podfic] (@hmslusitania) by Rhea314 (Rhea) / @rhea314 (Post-Lawsuit, Time Loop | 2.5-3 hours | Mature): “You know, being stuck here isn’t actually the end of the world,” Chimney says, coming up to the table and picking up one of the smoke detectors. “It just feels like it, Buck. Trust me, I know.” “I’m pretty sure it might actually be the end of the world,” Buck says. “Considering this is the sixth time I’ve lived this day.” Chimney stares at him for a beat and then his eyebrows lift. “Wait, are you like – dude, are you in Groundhog Day?” OR The post-lawsuit time-loop AU literally no one asked for.

You threw your head back gasping as you and Buck finished riding out your highs. “Still got it!” Buck said smugly as you laughed.
“Being cocky never suited you well, Evan.” You wrapped your arms around his neck.
“And screaming my name never sounded more sexy.” He leaned forward taking your lower lip playfully.
“Well I’d thank your well endowed friend, but your ego is already stroked too much.” You smirked.
“It wasn’t just me putting in the work, Y/L/N.” Buck caressed the side of your thighs.
“Well you know what they say, it takes two to tango.” You moved your hair out of the way.
Buck smiled as he let his eyes roam over your face. He knew he was risking his job big time, but getting in a few minutes with you was worth it.
“I missed you.” You stopped trying to adjust your shirt and looked down at him. A smile making itself on your face.“
“Missed you too.” You stroked his hair back. “I hardly see you nowadays.” You softly giggled. “Have you still thought about my offer…” He tugged you closer. “About moving in together. It’d be easier for us because of our jobs. I’d get to come home to you each night.” He offered a laugh.
“Buck-”
“Look I know you’re still working things out with your last job, but I’d want nothing more than to wake up and see you each day.”
You bit your lip contemplating on telling him about your new job, but you knew that the wait would be worth it.
 “Can we get dinner later, after your shift?” You leaned down and pecked his cheek softly.
“You still didn’t answer my question.”
“I’m still thinking about it…” You looked away. Evan noticed your hesitance and let it go.
“Why don’t you come by the station. Bobby’s making dinner for us tonight, says he has something important to tell us. I want them to meet you.” Evan’s eyes held hope that you’d say yes. As soon as he saw you smile, he knew he got his answers. “I’ll see you then, okay?”
“What? I didn’t even give you my answer.” You scoffed hitting him playfully.
“Didn’t need to.” He leaned forward. “Your smile.” He pecked your cheek. “Says it all.” He nipped at your sweet spot causing you to squeal in delight.
“Buck.” You gasped.
“I know.” He mumbled against your neck. “I’m stopping.” You leaned back and started adjusting your outfit.
“As much as I’d love a round two. You are still on shift, and my lunch break is over.” You smirked as his shoulders fell. “Oh don’t look so sad babe. Good things come to those who wait.” You pecked his lips once more and made your way out of the firetruck. “Call me when you’re off your shift, okay. I love you.” You smiled up at him from outside the truck.
“I will…and I love you too.” He leaned against the side of the door watching you turn and head towards your car.
-
Later that night, Buck had been waiting by the front entrance waiting for your arrival. His lingering around the firetrucks caught the attention of his team.
“Twenty bucks, he’s ready to get his firehose on.” Hen watched from up on the second floor. Chimney eating a piece of bread as he stood next to Hen.
“Maybe he’s got a girlfriend we don’t know about.” Chimney suggested.
“My money’s on family problems.” Eddie suggested. “Is Maddie coming over Chimney?”
“Of course, she wouldn’t miss Bobby’s cooking.”
“Buckaroo keeps checking his phone.” Hen motioned to him glancing down at his screen. “Think lover boy got stood up?”
“Hey it’s me. This is like my tenth time trying to get a hold of you. Please call me back. I’m worried about you.” Buck frowned. You hadn’t been picking up his calls since his shift was over. “I just need to hear your voice okay.”
“B-Buck.” His head rose as he saw you walk in. He sighed in relief as he saw you enter the station, but it wasn’t until he saw your face in the light that he noticed your busted up lip. Any smile he had went away in an instant. Blood covering the side of your face.
“Y/n…” Worry rose in his chest as you seemed to stare off toward nothing in particular. “Baby, hey.” He walked closer to you.
Your sudden appearance alerted Hen and Chimney as they watched you stumbled towards Buck.
“Y-Y/n!” Buck rushed to prevent you from falling.
“I was mugged. T-They took my bag. I woke up...on the ground.” You could feel the room spinning.
“Woah hey, no no. You have to stay awake now okay.” Buck shook his head as he helped you climb the stairs to take a seat on the couch. The team grew worried as they watched Buck sit you down. Bobby immediately came over, while Hen and Chimney grabbed their med kits. “Buck what happened?”
“S-She said someone took her bag on the way here.” Bobby knelt down to take a look at your head.
“How many fingers am I holding?” You spared Buck a glance asking him silently if he was serious.
“T-Two.” You sighed.
“I think you just have a minor concussion. Chimney, hand me the flashlight…follow my finger sweetie.” Your eyes moved right then left.
“Pupils are responsive. I wouldn’t worry too much about the bump on your head, but my wife Athena can help you make a report tomorrow morning, sound good?” Bobby patted your knee gently.
“Sounds good.” You slightly chuckled.
“So much for surprises huh?” Bobby shook his head.
“Surprises?” Buck grew confused.
“By his confusion, I’m guessing you didn’t tell him.”
“I was working on it.” You cringed.
Bobby eyed you playfully.
“Y/n, what’s he talking about?” Buck took a seat next to you. “You two know each other?”
“R-Remember when I said I got a new job.”
“Yeah…but what does that have to do with you and Bobby knowing each other.”
“She’s are new recruit.”
“Recruit?” He looked up at Bobby.
“I start my first day here tomorrow. I’m gonna be a firefighter just like you Buck.” You caressed the side of his face.
“Are you serious?” Buck’s smile made you smile.
“Yeah. Not only will we get to go home together, but we’d get to work together too. I’m all in if you are.”
“Home?” Buck’s eyes gleamed.
“I think I should start moving my things over to your place.” You laughed at his shocked reaction. “We can start tomorrow. Right now, I’m gonna kiss you.” Buck shook his head and cupped your face bringing you in closer to connect your lips.
“You owe me twenty bucks…” Chimney smiled smugly holding his hand out to Hen who rolled her eyes.

Duty Calls pt. 3
Summary: Patience is key, is what they say. Evan doesn’t know how to hold himself together, while (Y/n) is in surgery.
A/N: This is the last part of “Duty Calls”. Requests are welcome! :)
Part 1:
Part 2:
Tumblr media
………………………………………………………………………………
Evan was pacing through the room. At times like these, waiting on someone he cared about, he couldn’t sit still. This was the only thing he could do what made him calm down a little. His heart was pounding in his chest.
“Buck, can you please just sit down?” Eddies voice sounded through Evan’s eardrums.
The 118 was in the hospital too. Evan wanted to stay, and they wanted to support him. Even though they didn’t knew the sergeant he seemed to have a close connection with. So they decided to take the rigs out of service, so they could be with him.
He had promised her, he’d be waiting for her. He couldn’t break that promise. He didn’t have the heart to do that. He couldn’t just go back out there, fighting fires and saving people when one of the people he cared most about was hurt.
For other people, she was just another cop who had gotten hurt on call. But not for Evan. There was an unexplainable chemistry between them, which they couldn’t ignore or deny.
“Why is it taking so long” Evan murmured while he paced again through the waiting room. Completely ignoring Eddie’s request to sit down. Evan let his hands rest on top of his head. He was clearly impatient and getting anxious.
“Hey, she’s in good hands. At times like this, patience is key.” Bobby’s voice sounded through the waiting room, while his eyes connected with Evan. “I just wished she mentioned her stomach was hurting earlier. Maybe then she wouldn’t have coded on scene.” Evan’s voice sounded broken. He was clearly blaming himself for not noticing she had gotten hurt. Even though she seemed fine, and wasn’t complaining. Evan put his forehead against the wall, he wanted to slam his head into the wall, but he knew it wouldn’t make anything about this situation better. He was angry, sad, happy because she made it to the hospital alive. So many feelings were rushing through his body, he couldn’t describe it.
He felt a body standing closer to his side. A hand fell on his shoulder as he was still leaning with his forehead against the wall. He pulled his head back, so he wasn’t leaning on the wall anymore, as he looked to his right. Hen was looking at him with a concerned look on her face. She squeezed his shoulder. “You shouldn’t be blaming yourself for this. You couldn’t have known.” Hen tried to talk him out of the negative thoughts he had. “I was with her the entire time. From when she got out of that house, till the moment she collapsed in my arms. I could’ve noticed something!” Evan hissed.
“She was fine when I saw the two of you sitting on the back of the ambulance. There weren’t any signs she gave you, or us to notice that gunshot wound.” Hen assured him, letting him know that he didn’t miss anything. He didn’t do anything wrong. “But. What I do know, is that she isn’t going to get any better if you keep blaming yourself for this.“
“And that, that girl is not agreeing with your conclusion.” Hen continued after a moment of silence. Hen motioned towards the chairs with her head. “Come on, let’s sit down.” she said. Evan wanted to say no to her. That he wouldn’t sit down until they had news on his new friend, may I say crush.
But Evan finally agreed to sit down. Evan sat down next to Eddie, who gave him a pat on the shoulder. And Hen gave him a pat on the knee. Telling him he was okay. Evan’s elbows leaned on his thighs as a hand wiped over his face. Patience is key.
………………………………………………………………….
Every now and then, a nurse or doctor enters the waiting room, calling out a patients name. Every time when one of the workers enters the room, he could hear his own heartbeat pounding in both of his ears. He sat up straight, waiting to hear them call (Y/n)’s name. Whenever they didn’t call out her name, he sunk back into his chair.
After a rough 40 minutes, after the last doctor had left the room, another doctor enters the waiting room. Evan sat up straight again, focussed on the doctor. Hoping to hear her name.
“(Y/n) (Y/L/n)?” The doctor calls out. As soon as Evan hears the sound of the first two letters, he jumped up and hurried towards the place where the doctor was standing. As soon as the doctor turned to Evan, she started to explain the situation. “H-how is she?” He stuttered. He felt a few more people coming to stand behind him and on the side. Bobby put out his hand on his shoulder.
“Your friend is fine, the surgery went well. We removed the bullet from her body and were able to clean up the mess it made to her organs. The only thing we couldn’t prevent is that she may get a mark from the wound. She also inhaled a lot of smoke, so we got her on some medication for the symptoms, and of course oxygen.” The doctor explains. It’s a lot. Evan panted, as he releases a breath he didn’t knew he was holding. “Thank you.” He speaks through his breaths. “Uh, can I see her?” He carefully asked the doctor.
The doctor closed the document she was holding in her hands and held it in front of her body. “Yes, you can. But, she is still coming back around from the anesthesia. So it may be that she’s still asleep. She just came out of the surgery 15 minutes ago so she should be waking up any minute now.” The doctor answered. Evan didn’t have the words for it. So he nodded at the doctor as she leaves the group of people standing in the waiting room.
Evan turned to his team. “What are you waiting for? This is your time!” Chimney said as he stuffed a crisp in his mouth while he grabbed for some more out of the little bag.  “What am I supposed to say to her?” He asks his team. Eddie laughed.
“So.. you’ve been waiting in this room for hours. And now you’re panicking about that?” Eddie spoke. Evan didn’t know what to say, so he just went silent and stared awkwardly to the ground. “Dude just ask her out. We’ve seen the way you act around her.” Eddie continued.
“Okay so, you want me to go in there and be like: Hey! Welcome back! Do you want to go on a date?” He says with a fake smile like the question didn’t make any sense. Eddie put his hands on his hips and stared at Evan with a serious look projected on his face. “You know that’s not what I meant.” He looks him dead in the eye. “Okay now… Buck, calm down. Just be you, that’s more than enough. And you know that.” Bobby interrupted the two and puts a hand on Evan’s shoulder. “If you need us, we’ll be here.” Bobby nodded towards Evan, as a sign for him to go.
Evan nodded, and spun on his heels and walked through the hallway.
………………………………………………………………
Evan peeked through the window of the room, which was partly covered with blinds.  He saw her just lying there on the hospital bed. Her eyes were closed and underneath her nose was an oxygen tube. He just stood there, in front of that window. Looking at (Y/n), but with the tube underneath her nose, it was like he didn’t recognize her. She was always smiling when she was near Evan. That’s how he remembered her.
With a trembling hand, Evan’s hand slipped onto the lever of the door. He took a deep breath, pushed the lever down and opened the door of the hospital room (Y/n) was in. Evan slowly walked into the room and took place on the left side of the hospital bed she was lying on. Still asleep from the anesthesia.
After a few moments of just observing her, his hand slid into hers, and he gave it a reassuring squeeze. He sighed. Unsure what to do, should he say something? Should he stay quiet? He didn’t knew. As he feels (Y/n)’s fingers putting a little pressure on his hand. His eyes went from their hands together, to her eyes. She was slowly coming back around. She blinked, her eyes adjusting to the suddenly bright LED Lights on the ceiling shining into her eyes. A smile started to form itself on Evan’s face as he notices she was opening her eyes.
“Hey there sleepyhead” Evan spoke softly. The familiar voice ranging into her eardrums made her smile weakly. She scanned the room. (Y/n) was trying to figure out what was happening. She felt something underneath her nose, her right hand slowly made its way to her upper lip where oxygen tube was resting on. She wanted to grab it, and pull it away, but Evan’s other hand stopped her from grabbing the tube. “No, no, no.. don’t touch that.” His voice sounded as he pulled her other hand away too. He was now holding both of her hands, and gave them a gently squeeze. Her eyes met his again, “You’re still here” she whispered, barely audible. “I told you I’d be here, I don’t break my promises.” He reacted and pulled a chair, which was standing next to the hospital bed, closer and took a seat as he looses the grip on her hands.
(Y/n) placed her hand on his cheek. Evan smiled slightly at the touch, and felt jitters jumping up and down in his stomach. “What did the doctor say?” She asks, her hand still remaining on his cheek. He took the hand of his cheek, so he was able to speak freely. And took her hand in both of his, elbows resting on the mattress of the bed. “The surgery went well, they took out the bullet. But you inhaled a lot of smoke, but you got meds for that.” He answered her question. “The doctor also told me that the wound probably will leave a mark.” He continued. Her neutral look which was projected on her face, seemed to fade. And morphed into a sad look.
A feeling of sadness and failure rushed through her veins. She was marked for life if the scar didn’t fade away. Every time she would look at herself in the mirror, she would be remembered of that call. It wasn’t the worst memory, but she would’ve tried to forget it as soon as possible. But with that mark on her, she would always be reminded of that day.
She feels one of Evan’s hand rubbing over her wrist. And kissed her hand. “It’s gonna be okay.” He tried to reassure her. (Y/n) just stared in front of her, into the space of the room. “you’re gonna have a bad ass scar.” Evan tried to give her a pep talk. She wanted to smile because of his reaction. But she couldn’t.
The room filled itself with silence.
Evan tried to make the best out of things. “You know, if I looked at the mark..” he started. “The first thing I’d think of is how brave you were, to get into that basement all by yourself. All that matters is that you pushed your own feelings a side, to try and stop a simple argument. And yes, there went something wrong, but you got yourself out of there. That’s what I’d see.” He finished his speech.
They were silent. Just looking each other in the eyes. (Y/n) looked to her right, so she wasn’t facing Evan anymore. She bit her lower lip, trying to bite away the tears which were blurring her vision. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to blink her tears away.
After a few moments, she felt a hand cupping her cheek, which made her head move towards Evan, so she was facing him now again. His thumb swiped away a tear, which was starting to roll over her cheek. Adrenaline ignited in (Y/n)’s stomach. His eyes were dwarreling from her eyes, to her lips. His hand moved from her cheek to her neck. Evan came closer to her and conquered her lips. She placed her hand on his cheek. Their lips disconnected, she could feel his breathing, he was panting. Her nose was almost touching his.
He looked into her eyes and she looked into his. When their eyes connected, they both smiled. Evan took a breath and let his forehead fell against hers.
This is going to be an interesting little relationship.

hi omg thought of this while rewatching s2 ep3 with the earthquake but okay so there’s the little montage of everyone being happy and eddie running to christopher - but what if there’s something similar for buck? instead of him being with abby he’s dating reader and reader has a lowkey job (maybe librarian at an elementary school?) so when he gets home the first thing he does is yell for reader and then holds them and they both shed a few happy tears just talking about how happy they are that the other is okay.
you’re honestly the bestest and i am saying this in advance that this is gonna be fabulous, as always. PLEASE AND THANK YOU!! <333

a/n: the end of this ask was literally so sweet, i appreciate this so so much and i’m so happy you enjoy my works, that’s why i do them <33
buck was so sick and tired of watching everyone else have someone to run to. he hated having to see everyone in each others arms, watching a warm embrace ensue in front of him, just wanting it to be him instead. it was years on end of him watching kids with their parents, husbands with their wives, friends with their own friends. he always had the quick breakfast with a lay in bed, but he never had the long run of love that was supposed to come with it.
he thought his parents would be able to supply that love for him, but he must’ve been mistaken. they had no issue jumping out on every little thing in his life, nonetheless missing out on it. there was only so much love maddie could give, and he needed every drop of it. he thought maybe, someone mature like abby would come with the cherishing attitude to stay, but it left as fast as she did.
the earthquake had given a huge jumble to bucks brain, being able to save a bunch of people, but just wanted to go home at the same time. it felt selfish, and he hated himself for it, but how could he wish for anything else but just to be with y/n at home? he’s seen calamity and chaos the entire day, a constant strain of it into his shift. he’s seen death, broken bones, sobs, blood, anything that one doesn’t want to see. it took incredible pursuing to make bobby let buck take a break, but he could see he needed it.
he held his phone shakily in his hand, squinting over y/n’s name on the screen being darkened by the sunlight. he was nervous to even press the call button, not knowing if she’d be the one to pick it up, or an emergency responder who had her phone.
“hi, baby,” her sweet voice rang through the phone, leading him to sigh out and he couldn’t contain the light smile that formed on his lips. “are you ok?”
“i’m fine, i just wanted to hear your voice, make sure you’re ok.”
“we’re alright over here, there’s still kids here that need to get picked up, but they’re going pretty well with the evacuations.”
“i’m sorry i didn’t get over there, i got sent in the opposite direction.” y/n was working at the school on the other side of the city. buck was, of course, sent to work on the east side. he wanted to be able to save her, even if she wasn’t in trouble. he wanted to touch her so he knew she was breathing and alright, but he’d have to wait.
“don’t apologize, you’re doing amazing, buck,” she reassures him, letting his mind relax for a moment as she speaks to him. “go do your job, i’ll see you tonight, i promise.”
“i just want to see you.”
“i know, but you can in a few hours. do it for me, ok?”
“i love you, so much.”
“i love you, too, buck.”
the moment his fingers connected with the cold metal of the door, he instantly twisted it open to reveal the dim, yellowish lighting in his home. he felt like the introduction to his apartment felt like the ground stopped shaking. he was so excited to be able to rest, lay in his bed with y/n in his arms.
the thick soles of his shoes thumped against the ground as he threw his bags onto the floor. his shoulders instantly slumped and his feet automatically led to the stairs.
“hey,” y/n spoke, drying her hair with a towel to the side as it rested on her shoulder.
“hi.” he replied, slowly blinking his eyes.
“baby, you’re exhausted.” y/n steps forward down a few steps, standing a few inches taller than buck for once. her hands run over his shoulder blades, wandering over his skin and magically lifting the tension and stress from the earthquake.
“i know,” he says. “i just wanted you so bad today. there wasn’t a minute where you weren’t on my mind.”
“i’m here for good, buck. i’m not going anywhere, and i want you to get some rest.” she grabs his hand, pulling him up the steps and leading him to sit on the bed. he strips down to his boxers, leaving him shirtless as he puts on a warm hoodie that y/n handed him. he stops by the bathroom, washing his face as y/n prepares the bed for the two of them.
“i got you ice water, i left it on the nightstand.” y/n smiles softly up at him as he walks back in. “i turned the AC up, since you like it cold and i turned on the mattress heater.”
“you treat me too well, honey.”
“you did amazing work today, you deserve the treatment of a saint. come lay with me, please?”
“don’t have to ask twice.”
he crawls back into the bed as y/n dims the lights and turns their TV on. the white lights brighten their faces as he leans into her chest. his cheek rests right against the middle of her breasts, over her heart.
her arm is wrapped warmly around under his arm, the other hand rubbing his short hair. one of his legs lay between hers, his hands running against her sides. he breathes softly matching the rhythm of her, letting the noises of her gentle words and quiet noises from the TV lull him to sleep, allowing his deserving body to rest against the person he calls home.

i've seen a lot of ppl talking about buck and eddie both getting knocked out during the storm and eddie wakes up relatively quickly in the hospital and the firefam's there and he sees that buck is missing and is like "oh and buck is with chris right? where is he?" and the others just look at each other not knowing how to tell him that buck's in a coma and i just—
can you just imagine tho, eddie in that hospital bed and he can't get up and even when he tries bobby and chim and hen are there to stop him and no one would tell him really what the hell happened except that buck is in a fucking coma and all they can do is wait.
and eddie just wants to see him, make sure he's alive and that he still exists bc most days buck feels like a pipe dream, something too good to be true and eddie's losing his mind.
and then—
it's late at night and his hospital room is so quiet, hen is in a chair next to his bed and she's sleeping and eddie loves her but all he can think about is that usually is another person who sits next to eddie's bed when he's hurt, another person who holds his hand and reassures him he'll take care of chris while eddie can't.
the tv is a soft, barely there background noise as it casts a dim light over the room, but when he looks up it's the news are playing back what happened earlier and he sees the moment the lightning strikes, sees the moment eddie himself almost falls... sees buck falling from the ladder truck and hitting his head against the side—
"buck" he gasps without even realizing, the name falling from his lips like a plea, like a prayer begging to be heard.
"buck." eddie chokes out as his mind replays the fall in slow motion.
eddie was supposed to have buck's back. eddie was supposed to save him.
hen wakes up and eddie quickly realizes he's hyperventilating, struggling to take a deep breath and tears are streaming down his face with no way to stop them.
he's having a panic attack. he hasn't had one of those in a long time, eddie thinks almost absentmindedly.
"eddie hey, it's okay." hen redts a hand on his shoulder and tries to calm him down but it doesn't feel right— her hand is too heavy on eddie's shoulder, and it's not the right side. It's too soft, too—
It's no buck's.
"i need to see him." he manages to blurt out the in between gasps. "hen, let me see him. please." he begs and his voice is shaky and breaking by the last word. it sounds pathetic and desperate even to his own ears but eddie can't bring himself to care at that moment.
his heart is beating too fast, unforgiving against his ribcage, his hands are trembling and eddie—
he just needs to see him.
it takes a while and the nurses are definitely not happy with himself— once again, eddie doesn't have it in him to care.
especially when he's put in a wheelchair (he doesn't need it but he's picking his battles carefully right now) and taken to see buck.
his hospital room is a lot like eddie's but maddie is sprawled on the chair next to the bef, with red puffy eyes and hair a mess.
she looks exactly like how eddie feels inside, if he's being honest, and for a moment he feels a kind of weird keenship to her.
they both would do anything for buck. they both hate to see buck hurt.
"i'll give you some time with him." she smiles tiredly and then she's living the room along with hen and the nurse who wheeled him in.
eddie swallows hard and reaches out for buck, his hand immediately resting against buck's...
buck's hand is cold to the touch, when usually it would be warm.
it's still, when usually it would be squeezing eddie's right back.
it's pale and small against the sheets and eddie feels like he might throw up.
"please wake up." he whispers, but in the quiet of the room it sounds loud and oh so desperate. "please don't leave me."
and eddie— there's so many words he needs, wants to say. so many things he needs to get out, so many things he needs buck to hear...
but for now they stay lodge inside his chest.
for now, he keeps them to himself but he hopes he'll have the chance to say them out loud someday.
he hopes buck will want to hear them.

Its not unusual for Eddie to be quiet for whole shifts. Some days, its just a bad day. One where all the work Eddie has done to get better can only keep him trudging forward step by heavy step. One where all his demons come back at once and try to drag him down. One where Eddie is too busy fighting old habits to join in on the jokes and banter. They've all gotten good at dealing with these days - Buck especially, but that's no surprise when he was there for The Worst Days.
So, its not unusual for Eddie to be quiet, but there's a simmering despair to Eddie's silence today that has Bobby's hackles rising. Its not his usual listless, fatigued quiet. Its a heavy, burdensome quiet. Bobby can't stand it, so he waits until the rest of the team trudge off to the bunks before he corners Eddie in the lounge with two cups of tea.
"You're not gonna let me escape are you?" Eddie sighs, collapsing back against the couch he'd tried to jump up from.
"I'm not holding you hostage," Bobby offers him one of the mugs with a smile, "I'm simply gently suggesting that you talk to someone. And I happen to be right here."
"Yeah." Eddie sighs again, eyes drifting down to the steaming surface of his tea. "What do you think I should talk to someone about?"
"Whatever it is that has you like this." Bobby gestures at him kindly. "You seem heavier."
He doesn't say it, but Eddie looks a lot like he did when Buck was in his coma. Bobby can't help but wonder, what with all the Natalia talk, if its because Eddie thinks he's losing him all over again, in a different way.
"Its nothing..." Eddie shakes his head, averts his eyes. "Just something that old lady from the living funeral said to me and Hen. Something my aunt said too."
"What'd they say?" Bobby prompts gently.
"My aunt said that I'm alone," Eddie mumbles. "Marie said that we all die alone. And, recently, I don't know." Another sigh, a hand scrubbed down his face. "Recently, it feels like time is running out and I can't help but think that when it does, its just a lonely death waiting for me at the finish line."
"Eddie, you aren't going to die alone." Bobby aches for him. Buck may be his son, but Bobby's always seen a piece of himself in Eddie. Its why he finds himself here so often, trying to coax Eddie's heart out of its cage. "You know that there are two people who would never, ever let that happen."
Eddie huffs a bitter laugh, eyes landing somewhere far away.
"Yeah, that's what I thought too."
Bobby is mature enough to admit he flounders a little here. All these talks he's had with Eddie, its always felt a bit like speaking to a brick wall. But now, now he thinks Eddie might have finally understood.
"Eddie," Bobby murmurs seriously, seriously enough to have Eddie meeting his eyes, "its never too late. Never."
"Feels like it might be this time, Cap," Eddie chokes out. He glances down at his tea. "I don't want to be alone."
"Love is a risk," Bobby blurts out desperately. He's never met two men who deserve a happy ending more than Buck and Eddie, and, whilst he can't take credit for how far they've come, he feels a blazing pride that their happy endings are to be found in each other. He can't let them miss out. "Love is a terrible, awful risk. Always. Always. Its never easy. It might be in the end. You might look back one day and think that it was all worth it to end up here. But you're in the today, the now, when the love is horrible and painful and the most difficult thing in the world." Eddie looks up at him with tear-filled eyes, and Bobby's heart breaks for him. "Every beat of your heart is like a punch to the stomach, and you think that maybe it would be easier if you'd never felt the love at all."
"No," Eddie interrupts, shaking his head. "No, there's no way I was never going to feel this.. I'd always end up here."
"That's mighty faithful for someone who doesn't believe in the universe," Bobby mumbles.
"I believe in him," Eddie shrugs helplessly.
"Eddie, you haven't lost him." Bobby lays a hand on his shoulder. "He's just out of reach, but you can get to him. You've done it before. Both of you have. You always make it back to each other. That's your deal."
"I don't know how to reach him this time," Eddie confesses breathlessly.
"You have to take the leap, Eddie." Bobby sighs. "Its going to be terrifying, and it might not all fall into place at once. But one day, you'll look back and you'll be so damn glad you jumped."
Eddie bites into his lip as the first tear rolls down his cheek.
"What if he doesn't catch me?"
"Then, he'll pick you up off the floor," Bobby promises with all the conviction he has. Its the one thing he knows with any certainty in this world. "Eddie, whatever happens, you can't lose Buck. Not completely. And things might change. But think of how it could change for the better."
Eddie smiles to himself, a tiny, wobbly, private thing that Bobby's only caught glimpses of when Buck is around.
"So, I just jump?" he asks.
"You jump." Bobby nods. "You jump, and you hope, and you trust that he'll be right there with you."
"That he'll have my back?" Eddie grins ruefully.
"Yeah, trust that he'll have your back," Bobby smiles right back.

I started thinking about Buck texting Bobby every time he woke up, and my hand slipped.
---
Bobby is just beginning to prep breakfast at the station when his phone pings.
7:26am hey everything ok
It doesn't click right away—Bobby’s first assumption being that Buck is missing the job, maybe feeling a little left out.
7:27am Yeah, everything’s fine here. Shift just started, you’re not missing much. Are you ok?
He watches as the three dots pop up and then disappear a couple times, and then puts his phone down to stir the eggs. He’s almost forgotten about it by the time the response comes in.
7:34am just checking
It’s then that the penny drops, and the realization breaks Bobby’s heart a little. He opens his camera and flips it around, taking a surreptitious selfie with A shift seated at the table in the background. Chim is gesturing animatedly, and Eddie is chuckling into a coffee mug while Hen rolls her eyes. In the foreground is half of Bobby’s own face, forgetting to smile as he concentrates on framing the shot.
He sends the picture off to Buck.
7:36am We’re all here, all safe. We miss you. thanks bobby. miss you guys too
The next one comes in the following morning, just as Bobby is pulling into his driveway.
7:31am hey Hey, kid. All good here. ok, great sorry thanks No need, Buck.
Bobby knows there’s something Buck isn’t telling him about the coma dream and his place in it. When Bobby had asked him about it at the hospital, he’d been cagey, and since Buck got home, Bobby feels like he’s being tracked—like if Buck doesn’t know where Bobby is at any given moment, Bobby might vanish into thin air… or Buck might.
Bobby can be an anchor. He’s had practice.
2:12pm all good? All good.
They fall into a routine, where Buck will text “hey” whenever he wakes up and Bobby will reply with a checkmark emoji. It’s soothing for Bobby, too—this way, he knows Buck is sleeping, and gets a rough idea of when and how much. There’s always a text in the morning, and more often than not, a message also comes through in the afternoon.
A couple days in, the afternoon text arrives while the 118 is on a call. Nothing serious, but several cars are involved, and Bobby is flitting around the scene, directing his people back and forth to where they’re needed. By the time he wraps up, Eddie is sitting half inside the truck and holding his phone, a concerned look on his face.
“Cap?”
Bobby pulls his own phone out of his turnouts.
3:42pm hey
3:48pm hey, bobby?
3:52pm i know it’s fine and i know you’re probably on a call but lmk if you’re ok when you can
3:54pm please sorry
Bobby takes a quick selfie with Eddie. Neither of them is smiling, but it’s not annoyance—it’s the same way they’d be looking at Buck if he were here, handling the call with them. No performing, just an ordinary moment in time.
He sends it over.
4:09pm Sorry to make you wait. We’re good.
He looks up from his phone, and Eddie is watching him with pinched eyebrows. Wordlessly, he flips his phone around to show Bobby his own string of texts from Buck. Bobby sees his own name in the thread several times.
“How’s he doing?” Bobby asks.
Eddie blows out a breath and settles his elbows on his knees. “He’s… working through some stuff,” Eddie says, looking back at the text thread. He’s silent for a long moment, and then huffs a rueful laugh. “He seems rattled, which is pretty understandable. But beyond that, I don’t think he knows what he needs yet.”
“Well, until he tells us differently, the best thing we can do for him is to be here, and be us.”
Eddie nods, and they both swing into the engine.
That night, the ping of Bobby’s phone wakes him from a deep sleep in the station house bunks.
2:20am hey you awake
Bobby rubs a hand across his face. I am now. You ok? sorry i woke you No, don’t be. I’d rather you reach out.
Buck doesn’t respond; the three dots don’t even appear.
2:22am Did something happen? You alright?
2:24am just a nightmare You want to tell me about it? nah maybe later glad you’re ok, get some sleep
Bobby locks his phone and stares at the ceiling in the dark. He isn’t sure how much time passes, but at some point he resigns himself to the fact that his swirling worries won’t resolve themselves into anything legible right now. He swings his legs out of bed and heads upstairs to the kitchen.
Five hours later, he pulls into a parking spot outside of Buck’s apartment complex, a pan of cinnamon rolls in the passenger seat.
“Hey, Bobby.” Buck looks tired when he swings open the door, circles under his eyes, smile a little faded.
“Hey, kid. Brought you something.” Bobby peels back a corner of the foil covering the cinnamon rolls, and watches as Buck’s eyes brighten.
He laughs and gestures to the piles of food on the kitchen island. “I don’t know if I’ve even got space for those, but I’ll move some of this out to the balcony if I have to.”
Bobby hands the pan over, and Buck lifts out a roll immediately, taking a huge bite that leaves icing on his lip. “Mmmmh. God. Thank you.”
He can’t help a smile at Buck’s enthusiasm. “Anytime.”
There’s a moment of quiet while Buck wedges the pan onto the overloaded island and finishes his roll. He’s licking his fingers and avoiding Bobby’s eyes when he says, “Sorry again for waking you up.”
“Buck.” Bobby waits for him to look up. “Don’t be. We’re all here for you—and not just because you got hurt. We’re here whenever you need us.”
Buck pauses, index finger still in his mouth. He pulls it out and says in a rush, as if racing his own hesitation: “You were dead. In my coma dream, you were dead. Because Hen and I never came to your apartment that day.”
“Okay,” Bobby says, nodding neutrally as the memories wash over him. The shame of waking in the shower. The helplessness of placing his pain in his coworkers’ hands. The rock-steady warmth of Buck and Hen on either side of him.
A vise tightens around his heart.
“Is that why you’ve been checking on me?”
Buck has the gall to sound ashamed of himself when he says, “Yeah.”
“Buck, you know—hey. Look at me, this is important.” Buck, who has shifted his gaze to someplace over Bobby’s right shoulder, drags his eyes back. “You know that my sobriety isn’t your responsibility, right?”
Buck nods. “I know, and I’m not trying to… fix things, or control things I can’t. I just…” He trails off, and his eyes are shining. “I don’t want to wake up again in a world that doesn’t have you in it. This version of you, I mean.”
“Oh, kid, c’mere.” Bobby steps forward and wraps Buck in a hug.
God damn anyone who ever told this kid that his heart was a problem.
When they finally let go of each other, Bobby holds on to Buck’s shoulders. Buck sniffs, and swats a tear off his cheek with the palm of his hand.
“You’ve been through a lot, and I know you’re still sorting it out. But I also know how stubborn you are when you’re chewing on a problem,” Bobby says, drawing a wet laugh out of Buck. “I know you’ll find your way through it. And we will all be here for you. Every step, however long it takes.”
Buck nods, and breaks into a hesitant smile.
“And in the meantime, let us spoil you a little.” Bobby gives Buck’s shoulder a light jab with his fist. “We don’t want to wake up in a world without you, either.”

too tired to keep lying
7x06 spec...no I can't explain myself. On ao3 here.
Buck hates hospitals. He’s spent far too much time in them, sent too many patients to them, seen too much loss—he hates hospitals. But the part he hates the most isn’t the antiseptic smell or the fluorescent lighting or the smug doctors who act like they’re so much better than the lowly paramedics. The part he hates the most is the helplessness. When there’s nothing else to do but wait and see.
Wait and see.
Buck watches from several feet away as a doctor speaks with Maddie. Chim is still in surgery, has been for hours, and Buck knows he should be trying to do more, should at least cross the room and wrap an arm around his sister, help her stay standing, but he can’t make himself move in that direction. Because he can’t bear to see her look at him right now, knowing that he wasn’t able to stop this from happening, wasn’t able to protect her from this.
Buck’s stomach lurches and his feet unstick, sending him in the opposite direction from Maddie. Sending him to the exit.
His shoulder bumps someone as he passes through the door, and a hand grips his bicep for balance—a familiar hand. He exhales in a heavy gust of air as he steadies himself, then looks up into Eddie’s face.
“Any news?” Eddie asks quietly.
Buck shakes his head. “He’s still in surgery.”
Eddie nods once, then follows Buck as he keeps moving towards the main doors. Once they cross the threshold into the parking lot, the sun high in the sky is a reminder of how long he’s been waiting for news. There are messages on his phone—from Bobby, from Hen, from Tommy even, which is a tangle he can’t even begin to think about right now—but he can’t think about them, can’t return any of them. He can’t—
“They’re supposed to be getting married today,” he whispers. “In four hours. They’re supposed to be getting married, and instead—instead they’re—and I—I can’t—I don’t know w—what I—”
Eddie’s hand closes tightly around his, and Eddie’s arm closes around Buck’s waist to keep him standing. And Buck can’t help himself—he turns his face into Eddie’s neck and breathes, he lets Eddie take his weight, lets himself lean into the support that he hasn’t allowed himself to accept from anyone else.
“I should be making calls,” Buck says as Eddie’s warmth seeps into him, burning away the icy chill of numbness. “There are things to cancel—the caterers and flowers and—someone has to—”
“You don’t,” Eddie assures. “You don’t have to do anything.”
“But someone has to tell everyone that there’s—” Buck’s voice cracks. A shudder wracks him and Eddie’s hold tightens. “—that there’s not going to be a wedding today.”
Eddie stiffens for a moment, but before Buck can ask why, Eddie turns his head, his mouth grazing the edge of Buck’s jaw.
Buck freezes, then goes hot. An accident, he tells himself. Eddie definitely wouldn’t have done that on purpose, right? Eddie is—Eddie isn’t—Eddie wouldn’t—
Against his will, a hazy vision rises in the back of Buck’s mind—one that he’s been trying to figure out whether it’s a dream or a memory since Chim’s bachelor party a week ago.
Eddie’s hands on his bare chest, Eddie’s tongue in his mouth, the kiss broken by both of them laughing when Buck knocks over a glass of wine onto his pants—
Buck shivers, and almost misses it when Eddie says—
“There could be.”
“What?”
Eddie swallows hard, pulling back enough that his eyes can meet Buck’s. “There could still be a wedding today.”
“Considering the groom is unconscious on a surgical table and the bride is stuck waiting for news in the waiting room, trying to keep their child calm, I’m pretty sure that’s not—”
Eddie cuts Buck off with a kiss, swallowing the shocked noise Buck makes. And this kiss, Buck can’t ignore. This kiss, Buck can’t write off as a dream or a drunk hallucination. This kiss—this kiss is real, and right, and Buck feels like he’s been hit with lightning all over again, but he also feels like he’s come home, like he finally understands—
Fuck. Buck breaks the kiss with a gasp, wrenching himself back. “I—I—I—Eddie, I have a boyfriend.”
He doesn’t want to say it, he doesn’t want to stop, doesn’t want to think at all. But he’s not 26 anymore—he knows better than to avoid difficult things by burying himself in sex. So he knows that he has to say it. He has to—
“I know,” Eddie replies, and his voice is soft, his eyes are gentle. His hands are warm and steady and sure as they slide up Buck’s arms to his face. “I know you do. Right now. But I’m saying—I’m asking—”
Uncertainty flickers for the first time in Eddie’s gaze, and Buck would give anything to take that away. So despite the fact that he knows better, despite the fact that he’s supposed to be so much more responsible now, despite everything—he leans in and kisses Eddie again.
Eddie murmurs something into the kiss that Buck misses in the haze of heat that floods him.
“What?” He breathes as the kiss breaks again.
Eddie’s thumb passes over his cheekbone and Buck shivers again as his eyes flutter shut.
“Marry me,” Eddie repeats. “Marry me today. Because tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone and I know—I know it sounds crazy. Because yes, I know you have a boyfriend, but I’m saying—I’m saying you could have a husband. I’m saying that I could be your husband. Because I’ve loved you for so long and I think maybe you love me too, and I know I’ve been a coward—I know. I should have told you years ago, I should have told you so many times, I never should have waited so long. But if you let me—if you let me, I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you, because I am in love with y—”
Everything around Buck disappears. Everything narrows to white noise and Eddie’s face and those words repeating on a loop as the last several years of memories play back like a flipbook. And it’s like a puzzle piece clicks into place, like a key turns in a lock, everything making sense in a way he hadn’t thought was possible.
“You love me?”
Eddie blows out a breath. “More than anything. Do you—” he clears his throat. “—do you love me?”
And it’s right, so very right, when Buck pauses as the flipbook of their lives keeps playing back, and he says—
“Yes. Yes, I love you.”
The smile that breaks over Eddie’s face is brighter than the sun, and steals the breath from Buck’s lungs.
“So…you’ll marry me? Today?”
Buck kisses him again. And when he pulls back, he takes a breath. And gives him an answer.

Yours, apparently

“Firefighters Buckley and Diaz, I presume.”
“Why is my name always first?” Buck mumbles to Eddie. Eddie nudges him because now is not the time. This looks serious.
“That’s us, what’s going on?” Eddie asks. He glances at Bobby who is sitting in his seat with his arms crossed, a disappointed look on his face. Now Eddie is starting to get seriously worried. Did something happen with Christopher? Or did they do something wrong at a call without realizing?
(Or: Buck and Eddie are accused of hiding their relationship... even though they're not together.)

Summary: When the team are called out to a mugging scene, they get more than they bargained for when they find (Y/n). Eddie's little sister. Evan's crush.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tumblr media
"Is that your girl?"
Evan lifted his eyes from his phone and looked across at Hen who was wiggling her brows and curving her lips into a wide grin. She pursed her lips and tilted her head, pretending to blow kisses his way until Evan was smothering a smile and shaking his head. He looked down at his phone and quickly shoved it back in his pocket before any of them could lean over and see who he was messaging.
"Nope."
"Hm,"
"You holding out on us, Buck?" Eddie nudged Evan's shoulder as the truck started moving and they all got comfy in their seats.
"No, no one special in my life." He was speaking the truth. Mostly. Evan wasn't in a relationship, but that didn't mean he didn't have his eye on someone he thought of as special.
He just so happened to know Eddie's little sister rather well and he thought she was amazing. But she was Eddie's sister and that meant Evan had to tread very carefully. He couldn't try anything or push the bouondaries and ruin the friendship he had with both (Y/n) and Eddie if she didn't see him in that way.
And she hadn't technically messaged him right now either. He had sent her a message earlier but hadn't heard anything back. He just wanted to check his phone since their third call out of the day was now finished, but she hadn't gotten back to him yet.
"Yeah, sure so you-" Chimney cut himself off and looked around the truck as if a sign from God had just dawned upon them when a call came through the radio from dispatch.
"Dispatch to one-eighteen. We have a scene on the corner of Park Street, attempted mugging with two casualties. Please respond."
"One-eighteen, on our way."
A chorus of groans flooded the air of the truck as everyone grabbed their headsets and put them on as the siren started to blast out again. It looked like they were no longer heading back to the station to have dinner, they would be going on another call out. Evan's shift was now extending, he was planning to have lunch with the team and go home for a long power nap. Guess not anymore.
"Do you think we'll get to make an arrest?" Evan looked out the window as the truck made a sharp right turn and sent them all squishing into each other like sardines in a tin.
They had gone to a scene before when Hen was acting Captain and she got to make an arrest while they waited for the police to turn up and apprehend the man. If this was a mugging scene and the mugger was still there, maybe they would get to arrest him as well as patch him up and wait for assistance.
"I think the police will be on their way, Buck." Bobby leaned behind him to pat Evan's shoulder.
If they were being redirected it was because they were the closest scene and they would be able to provide medical assistance quicker than sending an ambulance out. And dispatch would have to notify the police about an attack so chances were a police car would be on their way to the scene as well.
"Eddie, Hen, get a med bag each. Let's see what we've got."
Everyone climbed down from the truck and went to grab their gear and Evan followed after Bobby, trailing away from the truck to see what was going on. They could hear shouting from the moment they climbed down from the truck and there seemed to be a gathering of people hanging around.
"LAFD, make room. Can someone tell me what's happened here?" Bobby rose his voice to the crowd of five or six people gathering in a huddle near an alley. He glanced his eyes around everyone to try and see what had happened, he couldn't work out where the casualties were and dispatch said two people had been injured and needed help.
"That bitch stabbed me-"
"He attacked that girl and she stopped him getting away."
A sigh passed through Bobby's lips as he planted his hands on his hips and looked at the man who was laid on the floor. He was cradling his left thigh where a puddle of blood was trailing down his leg and dripping onto the pavement beneath him. He had a frantic look in his eyes, black gloves on his hands matching his hoodie and jeans and he had a cloth around his neck that Bobby guessed someone had pulled down to see his face.
Bobby made his way to kneel beside the attacker and silently pointed at Evan to go see where the other casualty was.
Evan had his words all formed in his head. 'Miss, it's the LAFD. Can I check you over? Are you hurt?' But he didn't get to say any of them when he moved towards the alley and caught sight of the girl in question. She was curled up on the floor, leaning against the wall at the very edge of the alley. Her body was slumped to the left, knees curled awkwardly beneath her and her arms were coiled tightly to her chest as she slowly rocked herself back and forth.
Tears drenched her face and sobs and bubbling gasps broke free from her trembling lips. But when Evan caught sight of her face, his blood ran cold and he couldn't breathe.
Oh God no.
"(Y/n)? (Y/n) it's me, it's Evan." He dropped down to his knees in front of her and held his hands out in front of him to show her he wasn't going to hurt her. He was safe. He wanted to help. "Can I-"
"Evan!" His name croaked past her lips like he was some sort of miracle or epiphany that (Y/n) had wished for.
Her trembling body pushed forward onto her knees and she thrust herself into Evan's chest before he could ask if he could help her. His arms froze in mid-air before he snapped himself back into action and slowly coiled his large frame around her like a safety blanket.
He gently smoothed his hand up and down her back, tensing when he felt her hands slip beneath his florescent jacket and her nails scratched into his shirt like sharp metal nails. Someone had tried to attack her. Someone had hurt her, here, in broad daylight. Someone had attacked Eddie's little sister, the girl Evan was sweet on.
"Buck, what we got?" Eddie slung the medic bag on his shoulder and trudged over to Evan while Chimney and Hen went to sort out the man Bobby was trying to calm down. He could hear the man shouting and cursing from over here and it made Eddie cringe. It didn't take much to guess that the man was the mugger. Sometimes Eddie didn't like the fact that they also had to look after the people comitting crimes as well as the victims.
He dropped the bag to the floor but when he knelt down beside Evan, Eddie's blood ran cold and he tensed. His jaw locked in place and his chocolate brown eyes glazed over like black holes when he looked at the girl curled up in Evan's arms.
"(Y/n)," Her name fell from his lips in a quiet whisper and he realised he was shaking. His hands were gripping the medic bag, curled around the leather until he was leaving markings in the bag. And Eddie could feel Evan nervously fidgeting beside him, unsure how anyone was going to react.
"Eddie!" (Y/n) could barely see her brother due to the tears streaming down her face and she hiccupped through her breaths.
Her arms uncurled from Evan and she started to sob harder when Eddie almost ripped her out of Evan's arms and into his own embrace.
"No, no what's happened? What the fuck did he do to you?!" Eddie brushed his hand along the back of her neck but when he leaned down to kiss the top of her head, he pulled back quickly. (Y/n) cried out into his chest, flinching down and croaking when he touched the top of her head.
His hands moved to gently cup her face and he tilted her head down so he could assess the top of her head.
Blood was smeared into her hair and trickling down the side of her face near her ear. But what made Eddie frown and caused Evan to lean over for a better look was the tiny shards of green glass they could see meshed in with her curls.
"(Y/n), what happened?" Eddie smoothed his thumb across her tear-stained cheek while his eyes raked over her for any further injuries.
When Eddie gently let her go so he could rummage around in the medic bag, (Y/n) turned to look at Evan in surprise when he shrugged off his florescent jacket and draped it around her shoulders. The action made her chest ignite for different reasons and calmed down her raging, hiccupping breaths.
Without thinking, (Y/n) leaned to the side and tucked herself back into Evan's chest as if that was where she belonged and he didn't object. He swooped his right arm around her waist while his left hand ran up and down her trembling arm to try and keep her calm.
"He… he grabbed me from behind and d-dragged me in the alley. When I wouldn't give him my bag he pushed me down… I- I did what you said,"
Her words caused Eddie to pause and look up at her in panic. What had he told her do to? What advice did he give her as a big brother? Eddie had told all three of his sisters a lot of advice over the years. He was the eldest out of them all and when their dad worked away, Eddie had to help look after them. (Y/n) was the youngest out of them all and Eddie was the closest to her which was why she had moved down to LA with him and Chris.
He had tried to give her a lot of self defense advice and teach her what to do and what not to do in certain situations.
"I had my keys on me so… so I stabbed him, I didn't want him getting away,"
"Bobby, the weapon used on him," Evan gently took (Y/n)'s keychain from her and held it out to Bobby who was stood in the middle, observing the scene as a police car rolled up. The captain nodded and placed the keys in a plastic bag.
(Y/n) remembered Eddie telling her she could use anything as a weapon if she needed to protect herself and keys were a great weapon. They were small to hide in the palm of her hand and they were metal and had jagged edges, perfect to cause a little damage and harm someone enough to make them stop.
She needed the man to get off her and he was thrashing around pinning her down, she didn't know what else to do. (Y/n) found her keys from her pocket and thrust her house key into the man's left thigh. She didn't know where her power came from and she almost threw up when she watched and felt the metal cut through his flesh.
But it stopped him from getting away. She wasn't letting him leave after attacking her.
"What did he do to your head, sweetheart?" The pet name fell past Evan's lips before he could stop himself but he was glad Eddie didn't seem to notice.
"He was screaming at me, before I could move he grabbed a bottle and h-hit me, I-" She broke off, another round of trembling tore through her body as she started to cry.
"He smashed a bottle over your head?!" Eddie tilted his head to look over at the man currently getting an IV in his arm and his trouser leg cut so they could see the extent of his leg wound. "Wait 'til he meets me, I'll shove it up his-" He broke off when he felt Evan jerk his shoulder. (Y/n) was starting to hyperventilate and Eddie going into protective mode wasn't going to help if he was going to start a fight.
"Shh, hey it's alright. You did great," Evan gently unravelled his arm from around her waist and his smile faltered when (Y/n) desperately grabbed at his arm as if she thought he was about to leave. "I'm gonna give you an IV, get rid of the shock."
Evan thought for a moment as he held (Y/n)'s hand that was digging so tightly into his exposed arm that she was starting to draw blood. She was clearly in a big state of shock if she was afraid letting go of him was going to somehow get her hurt.
"Here, hold tight." He gently prized her fingers from his arm and moved her hand to his thigh as he shuffled closer until their knees were touching. She could squeeze, scratch and grip his leg as much as she wanted and he didn't care if she punctured through his trousers into his flesh. As long as she stayed calm.
He looked through the bag and found an IV bag and a needle and he swabbed the crease of (Y/n)'s elbow before gently pushing the needle into her vein. She was in so much shock she barely flinched at the feeling.
Eddie's chest rose and fell rapidly as he tried to stay calm but he couldn't. Someone had chosen to make his sister a victim, tried to hurt her and then whacked her over the head with a bottle that had smashed and cut through her skin. She was lucky she didn't have any mass bleeding and that the glass hadn't reached her skull. He could have given her swelling or cranial damage.
He slid a blood pressure cuff up (Y/n)'s left arm and checked her BP which was rather elevated but her pulse was good.
"Eddie, how is she?" Bobby moved to stand near the, unsure what was happening over here when both members of his team seemed to know this victim. And he didn't like the dark look in Eddie's eyes when he turned to face him.
"That cunt smashed a bottle over my sister's head."
"Ah. This is (Y/n). Can we get her transported? Athena's going to take him down to the hospital in custody before he goes to the station."
"I want to take some of the glass from her head first before we transport. Are you hurt anywhere else?" Eddie wasn't moving her until he had removed as much glass from her wound as he could so there was less for the doctors to do once they took her to hospital.
Whimpering, (Y/n) leaned forward and silently indicated to her back. Her fingers dug into Evan's thigh and her head pressed onto Eddie's shoulder while Evan moved closer. He hummed quietly and moved his jacket back so he could gently lift (Y/n)'s shirt and look to see where she had been hurt.
"Skin's flush and warm, might have a bit of internal bleeding. Let's get the glass out and move her." Evan traced his fingertips over (Y/n)'s left hip, near to where her kidney would be. Her skin was discoloured and very warm, she could have internal bleeding but it didn't look too worrying. She could have a scan once they got to the hospital.
"Okay, this might hurt, try and stay still for me."
Evan's brows rose in surprise when (Y/n)'s hand let go of his thigh so she could clutch onto his hand instead. She reeled his hand into her chest and leaned against his bicep while her head tilted forward so Eddie could look at her head.
Every time her body shuddered and jolted, Evan squeezed her hand and rested his other hand on her knee to try and keep her calm. His lips curled in distaste when Eddie slowly started to pluck shards of glass from her hair with a pair of tweezers. He heard Eddie whisper 'don't move' but as soon as he relieved a large shard, blood trickled down (Y/n)'s forehead and she gurgled through a scream. Her body tremored against Evan and she jolted when Eddie poured a little saline over the wound to clean it and see if there were any more pieces he could remove.
They both counted ten various sized shards of glass that Eddie placed onto a cloth on his knee.
"Let's get you to hospital," Eddie dropped a little more saline onto the three various cuts on his sister's temple before he pressed a patch of gauze over them to try and stop the blood loss and hopefully soak up any smaller shards he hadn't managed to get.
"Up we go,"
The pair held one of (Y/n)'s arms each and slowly eased her up between them, gripping her hands tightly as she started to tremble again.
Adrenaline coursed through (Y/n)'s veins and she could feel her stomach churning and jolting when she was upright. Her feet could barely pick up from the floor, she dragged her feet, scraping them against the pavement as he knees bent and she let the boys guide her towards the truck. Practically dragging her between them.
(Y/n) groaned and suddenly doubled over, snapping her eyes closed as she leaned forward and threw up onto the floor. She felt like she needed to be sick again and get rid of whatever was still in her stomach but all she could do was cough and gasp for each breath as another round of tears started to fall.
Leaning down, Eddie looped his sister's arm around the back of his neck and gripped her waist tightly with his left arm so he could take her weight for her. He let Chimney and Hen climb into the truck first as the mugger was patched up and already in Athena's squad car.
Buck clambered up next and turned round to reach down for (Y/n). He gently but firmly gripped her forearms and hoisted her up the steps as Eddie held her waist and eased her up between them.
"Alright… let's put these on so you don't go deaf, hm?"
A small smile tugged at (Y/n)'s lips when Evan eased her down into a chair and crouched between her thighs like he belonged there. He strapped her in and grabbed a headset, trying to get them over her ears without touching the top of her head. He slipped the band over the back of her head so it was nowhere near the cuts in the centre of her head and squished himself into the seat between (Y/n) and the window as Eddie sat on her left.
They didn't have the ambulance with them on this call out so it was a relief (Y/n) didn't have any nerve damage and that she could walk so they didn't have to radio for an extra ambulance. They could just take her to the hospital in the truck.
"Is this your sister?" Hen looked between (Y/n) and Eddie, already noticing the resemblance and the way Eddie gripped her thigh showed he cared deeply for her. But he couldn't find it in himself to smile when he nodded silently to her question. He didn't want them all to meet like this.
"Chris… I- I have to pick him up," (Y/n) slumped her head back onto Evan's shoulder so she could look up at Eddie.
She was supposed to collect Chris from school since Eddie was on shift today. She couldn't wait around in the emergency room to get checked out when she had to pick her nephew up. There wasn't enough time to find someone else to go and get him.
"I'll get him, don't think I'm leaving you alone like this."
"I could, you know, I could go get him. My shift's technically over, I can take (Y/n) home and get Chris later, you're still on shift." Evan ran his hands up and down his thighs as he looked between (Y/n) and Eddie, smiling at her head resting comfortably on his shoulder.
He was done now, his shift ended after their last call. Instead of Eddie having to cancel his shift and both of them leaving the team short, Evan could look after them both for him. He would stay at the hospital with (Y/n) and take her home and collect Chris later. He loved spending time with both of them and (Y/n) shouldn't be alone right now.
"Are you sure? Is that alright?" Eddie looked from Evan down to his sister because he would stay with her if she asked him to. But her lips curved into a smile and she leaned further into Evan, nudging her nose against his neck while she closed her eyes.
She wanted to go to sleep. She didn't mind who stayed with her as long as she wasn't left alone at the hospital.
"We'll drop you both off here then Buck. Call when you need a lift back," Bobby turned to look in the back of the truck, nodding at them both. This was where they would part ways, at the paramedic entrance to the hospital. They could easily come and pick them up when they were ready since Evan was still in his uniform and his jeep was back at the station.
"Will do."
Eddie kissed his sister's temple, muttering a quiet 'love you' into her skin as his palm pressed into her lower back to help her get up.
Evan jumped down from the truck, leaving his helmet in the back along with his gloves while his jacket was still wrapped around (Y/n). He held his hands up towards her with a dopey grin that made (Y/n) really want to smile, if it weren't for the lightheaded feeling that overtook her.
She could barely feel her feet that skidded against the steps causing the team to gasp as Eddie bolted forward and Hen reached out to grab her arm. But they didn't have to worry when Evan jumped forward and grabbed her before she fell down.
An arm secured around her waist with his palm splayed out on her back and his other arm looped around her thighs just beneath her bum. Evan cocked a grin as he pulled back with (Y/n) in his arms.
"I gotcha." Evan lowered her down a little in his arms but kept hold of her and kept her feet from the floor. Walking in was going to prove long and stressful whereas Evan could just carry her inside to make things easier. "Let's go, sweetheart." He stepped back onto the curb, nodding at the team that he had her safe and sound and he bit back a smile when he felt (Y/n)'s arms loop around his neck and her face tucked into the crook of his neck.
"Thank you,"
***
(Y/n) smiled gratefully at the nurse and took the small white bag of antibiotics from her which she stuffed into her bag.
Two hours. It had taken two hours to get all the glass removed from her head, have one of the cuts glued shut from how deep it was, take a dose of morphine. And then go up for a scan to make sure she had no internal bleeding.
(Y/n) was ready to go home and she was thankful it had timed perfectly for her and Evan to go and collect Chris. Evan didn't have to leave her alone at the hospital to get Chris and then come back for her. He had stayed by her side like a bodyguard. Arms crossed over his chest and a stoic, protective look on his face.
He let (Y/n) dig her nails into his arm that she had already scratched earlier and he had kissed her temple when all the glass was removed.
"You're free to go."
"Thank you," (Y/n) nodded briefly at the nurse before she rummaged around in her bag. "Bobby still has my keys." Evan had given them to Bobby to show what she had attacked her assailant with. The keychain held her house keys and Eddie's keys for when she collected Chris while he was at work.
"I'll get them for you when we get back to the station, hopefully they will be cleaned up." It wouldn't be great to have her keys still caked in blood. Evan doubted that Athena would take the keys into evidence or take them to the hospital. The mugger had been patched up by the team, he only went to the hospital for any shots he might need and pain relief along with an all clear.
"I didn't wanna hurt him, I- I just-"
"Hey, he attacked you. He could have given you a bleed on the brain, you had every right to stab the bastard. Does it still hurt?"
Evan looked down at her head which looked pretty nasty from his height advantage point. She had a cut down the middle of her head that broke through her hairline into her forehead but it was more superficial than painful. The one that had been glued was now swelling up and would be bruised and tender in a few hours. (Y/n) wouldn't be able to wash her hair or touch her head for a week and she would be living with constant headaches for a while.
"A little, I feel… woozy." (Y/n) managed a smile as she gripped the edge of the bed she was sat on and pushed up to her feet.
The morphine took away most of the pain and sickness but now she felt drugged, wobbly and like her head weighed more than the rest of her body.
Her lips parted in a gasp when her feet bent awkwardly beneath her and her knees pushed forward into Evan's thighs. His hands reached out to grab her waist and he reeled her into his chest with ease, tilting his chin down so he could look at her through the height difference.
A smile wormed onto his face and his eyes creased at the corners as he smiled down at her with that dopey yet cocky grin that made (Y/n)'s stomach flutter.
"You keep falling for me today, huh?" His thumbs brushed up and down her exposed hips and his head tilted to the side as he stared at her wishfully.
"Seems so,"
(Y/n) kept her eyes level with his chest while she slowly dragged her fingertips up his biceps and along his shoulders until her thumbs could brush against his neck. She finally dared to lift her head up enough to meet his gaze that was piercing through her like there was a question burning in his mind that he was desperate to know the answer to.
"I guess I'd better get used to catching you then,"
The feeling of Evan's lips on hers made (Y/n) shiver and when she pushed up on her toes and swiped her thumb across his jaw, she felt his hands tighten around her hips. He pulled her chest flush against his and leaned down to catch her at a better angle.
His teeth bit her lower lip while his hand trailed up her side, gliding his fingertips across her skin to make her flush and squirm against him. He cupped her chin between his finger and thumb, nuzzling his nose into hers when they parted. (Y/n) could feel each breath he gasped against her lips and the moment she looked up into those ocean blue eyes, she felt her knees giving way.
If this was falling, (Y/n) never wanted to land.
When buck screams tommys name in distress, how would you like it to happen?
well. so. obviously tommy gets hurt on the job and obviously buck witnesses it. i don't know how it happens, necessarily. i know 911 said they didn't necessarily want to do big wildfires out of respect for the fact that they have big wildfires in california, but that's the only thing i can think of, like. i don't know if you've seen the og/ls crossover episode (i'm going to assume you have) but having all these firefighters together.. it's the most time buck and tommy have ever spent together while on the job. they do little check-ins with each other throughout the days as the week stretches on, just to make sure they're safe, just to make sure they're coping well. they never do anything more than kiss and hold each other for a couple minutes in a dark/quite corner of one of the sleep tents, both because they're exhausted and because it's definitely not the time or place, but. it's enough. you know?
and so. about eight days into the wildfire, a group of firefighters goes missing. they're completely unresponsive, and that's a bad sign, so tommy's unit has to fly in to go get them. when buck learns tommy's flying out for this specific rescue, he's anxious as hell. that area he's flying out to went bad days ago, visibility is shit, and the group of firefighters that stopped responding was the last group that was ever going to be sent out before the whole area was going to be considered too far gone to save. so he's nervous. scared shitless, actually. but tommy just pulls him aside and he smiles that warm, loving, reassuring smile of his. kisses him and says, "don't worry i'll be okay, everything is okay" and he's scared too, buck can see it in his eyes, but he kisses him back hard and long and just tells him, like, "come home safe to me, ok?" and it's a request but it's also a demand. tommy has to come home. there's no other option. not one that buck can survive, at least.
so tommy goes away and buck/the rest of the 118/some others are is deployed to an area that's pretty close to where tommy is supposed to be flying overhead. after a while, buck gets into a rhythm, so he doesn't think (much) about tommy and just focuses on the task at hand and what he has to do. and then at some point, he hears a chopper overhead and he's so relieved... up until the moment that he notices something is very fucking wrong. he doesn't know what, exactly, but the helicopter is going down and he can't fucking breathe and it is has nothing to do with the smoke. and buck, like.... it'd be one thing if he was hearing about it after the fact, you know? if he heard about it after, he'd be spared the sheer, lifechanging panic of what it looks like to see his world collapse in real time. but he's actually standing there, and he's witnessing the love of his fucking life go down in a wildfire and. so. yeah. he screams tommy's name at the top of his lungs. he's not even aware that he's doing it, tbh. it's completely involuntary, a byproduct of watching this person he loves so much literally die (so he thinks). and there are arms around his waist (he doesn't know whose, but they feel like eddie's) holding him back to keep from running, and someone's talking into a radio (bobby maybe?) but everything is just. it's chaos. his head his chaos, his heart stopped beating ages ago and now he's just. dead. just dead and waiting for, praying for a miracle he's not sure will ever come—
(and. so. obviously tommy is fine. buck doesn't actually, like, learn this fact until several hours later when he is already so firmly entrenched in the deepest depression/state of grief he has ever been in in his life (and considering he watched eddie get shot in front of him, saw a bridge collapse on top of bobby, and his sister was kidnapped presumed dead, that's saying a LOT). but then tommy staggers into the tent and buck absolutely falls the fuck apart. like. tommy barely gets a step inside before buck is on him—before they're on each other, actually—and. like. he's not okay at all. like. he's injured and should definitely 100% be on his way to the hospital. but he knew, okay? tommy kinard knows his boy and he knew what kind of state he would be in. so yeah, stopping by to see him was a no brainer. their reunion only lasts a couple minutes before tommy's body starts to give out on him and, like, yeah, hospital now. but. buck goes with him, and he doesn't leave his side once except when tommy goes through surgery and... everything is not okay but neither of them had the worst day of their lives and that's all buck could ever ask for.)
(and if they finally tell each other they love each other when tommy gets out of surgery and comes out from under the haze of anesthesia. well. that's just between them)
Accident - Evan Buckley
Tumblr media
You looked at the news in shock. You couldn’t believe what you were seeing. Buck was trapped under the firetruck. He was barley moving. Tears formed in your eyes as you saw a kid with a bomb strapped to his chest. Without a second thought, you rushed downstairs. You hurried out of the building and ran down the streets of LA. The accident wasn’t far from your apartment. Police stopped you, but you yelled for Athena. She turned around and signaled that they could let you through. She wrapped her arms around you.
“Any word on Buck?” You asked, afraid of what the answer was going to be.
“He’s alive, that’s all I know for now. But he will be in the best hands once they can get to him, okay? Hen and Chimney will get him out and to the hospital. Don’t you worry too much. Bobby…” she turned around for Bobby but he was no longer behind her. He was walking with his hands up in the air to the bomber. You could see that Bobby was talking, but you had no idea what they were saying. Minutes passed that felt like hours. Somehow Bobby managed to grab the bomber and that gave police the opportunity to grab him and drag him away. You saw the firefighters rushing towards Buck.
“I have to go see him,” you said to Athena before running towards buck.
“How are you doing Buck?” You heard Hen ask.
“Kinda numb.”
“Buck!” You yelled at him as you rushed towards him. Eddie stopped you from getting too close.
“Let them work, okay? Give them some space.”
You looked up at Eddie with the tears in your eyes. “Tell me, and be honest, how is he doing?”
“The truck is crushing his leg, Y/N….”
“Y/N?” You heard Buck wimper.
You escaped Eddies hold and got closer to Buck, but still giving Hen and Chimney enough space. “I’m here. They’re going to get you out, okay? You’re going to be okay.”
“I love you.”
“I love you. But this is not going to be goodbye. You’re going to be fine.”
Buck was looking at you, and you could see that it was getting harder for him to keep his eyes open.
“We’re running out of time, cap,” you heard Chimney say to Bobby.
“Alright. Let’s get this truck off him.”
More firefighters rushed over to lift the truck. You looked at Buck one more time, before doing the same thing. You stood next to Eddie, waiting for the signal to lift up the truck.
“Lift!” Bobby yelled.
With everything you had in you, you tried to get the truck off the ground. The scream that followed was one that would hunt you for some time. Buck cried and screamed out in pain. Teras rolled down your cheek.
“It’s needs to go higher,” Hen said.
“Again!” Bobby yelled.
You lifted the truck again.
“Higher!” Hen yelled.
This isn’t working. Whatever you were trying to do, it had no success. You looked at Eddie.
“It’ll be okay,” he whispered.
“We need more hands,” Bobby said.
Chimney grabbed the radio to ask dispatch for more persons, but he stopped. You looked at Chimney. He was frozen. You followed his gaze and saw bystanders running towards the truck. Every person that was watching was rushing over to the truck to help.
With all the people that were now helping, you were able to lift the truck off Buck and he was able to get out. He cried in pain as they dragged him out. They put him on the gurney and you grabbed his hand.
“Stay with me, Buck. Stay with me,” you said to him as you saw that he was closing his eyes.
It had been hours of waiting in the hospital. Surgery took what felt like forever. Your body wanted to move, but all you could do was sit down and stare at the ground. There was no energy left in you.  You leaned against Eddie. He wrapped his arm around you.
“I think Buck was glad to see you in that moment,” Eddie whispered.
“I saw it on TV and I just… I couldn’t watch through a screen. It looked so bad, and I…” tears welled up in your eyes again. You tried to blink them away, but it was no success.
“He’s going to be okay, Y/N. He’ll probably walk again. You know Buck. He is going to be okay.”
“I know, but in that moment it looked so bad. I thought…”
“I know.”
After waiting another while, you were able to see Buck. He was still asleep, but he was out of surgery and the doctor said that it went well. He would be able to walk again, that was the most important thing. You were holding Bucks hand, sitting next to his bed.
“Y/N?”
You looked up and saw that Buck was awake. “Hey, how are you feeling?”
“Okay, I guess. You’re here.”
“I am. Everyone has been waiting for you to get out of surgery and wake up. It took a long time…”
Buck looked at his leg and then he looked back up at you.
“The doctor said that it went well, and that you would be able to walk again.”
“What about work?”
“He didn’t say anything about that, but let’s take it one step at the time, okay? You’ve just been through a trauma, and now you need to heal.”
Buck was silent for a moment.
“You were there…”
“I was. I… uhm… I saw it on the news, and I couldn’t stand there and watch. I had to be there in case…” you looked away from Buck.
“In case of what, Y/N?”
“In case you didn’t make it.” Another tears rolled down your cheek, which you aggressively wiped away. You were so done with all the crying.
Buck squeezed your hand. “I am here. And like you said, I am okay. You’re not losing me. Not today.”
“But what about all the other days?” More tears streamed down your cheek. “Seeing you lay there, it made me realize that any day you could end up like that. Any day there is a change that you won’t come back to me.”
“I know, and I know that is hard. But all of us are trying to make it home by the end of the shift. We all want to go home to our families.”
“It was just that today made me realize that it could be over at any moment. And I don’t want that. I want us to have forever together.”
Buck smiled. “You’re not the only one.”
You smiled through your tears. You stood up and gently kissed Buck.
“I guess I’ll come by later,” you heard behind you.
You turned around and saw Eddie standing in the doorway.
“No, come in! You’ve been waiting long enough to see me,” Buck said.
Tiny drabble for @buddierights featuring hurt Buck and worried Eddie:
30 minutes ago, Buck had gone into the frat house to help a police officer break up a fight; the argument had been that Buck had experience with drunk people getting into fights and he knew how to break them up quickly. 30 minutes was not quick, and Eddie was pacing back and forth, almost wanting to go into the house himself and see what the hell was taking so long.
“I don’t like this,” He said when another five minutes had passed by and there was still no sign of Buck or the patrol officer that went in with him. “I should go in and check on them.”
Bobby sighed, “If they needed backup they would’ve radioed, we have to trust them.”
Eddie sighed and leaned back on the firetruck, eyes still set in the front door of the frat house. He really should’ve gone in with him, and he was beating himself over it when he finally saw the officer walking out with the two guys in handcuffs, and behind him, Buck was walking out holding a pack of frozen carrots to his face.
“What the fuck?” Eddie heard Hen said, but he was already rushing to the steps that Buck was walking down on carefully, trying not to trip as the frozen carrots obstructed most of his vision. “Buck,” He said when he was close enough, the other man stopping on the spot to wait for Eddie.
His shoulders relaxed, almost like he knew that Eddie would take care of him now.
“I’m fine,” He said, voice coming in nasally; Eddie rolled his eyes and took the frozen pack from his hands to be able to look at the damage.
Underneath Buck’s eyes there was already two bruises forming, the skin too tender to touch, and Buck hissed as Eddie tried to test the area.
“Who did this to you?” He whispered, voice coming out angry and tight. Tearing his gaze away from the damage in Buck’s face and towards the guys being pulled into the back of the police car.  Before he knew it he was taking a step towards them, the only thing stopping him was Buck’s arms around his waist.
“Hey no, it’s not worth it, okay? They’re getting arrested either way, they’ve already been charged with assault, okay?” Buck’s voice was still coming nasally, tail signs of his sinuses swelling up from the hit.
“C’mon, let’s get you checked out,” Eddie said, taking one of Buck’s hands and dragging him to the back of the ambulance, “I thought you had this handled?”
“I did, I always knew this might happen,” He said casually and shrugged.
Eddie shook his head, “You need to stop doing this to me, Evan, whatever they were fighting about it wasn’t worth you getting hit, this is going to take a while to heal, and you know you bruise like a peach, you’re going to be walking around looking like the winter soldier.” Eddie mumbled as he started to test around Buck’s eye sockets and nose to make sure that nothing was broken.
Buck stayed quiet as Eddie checked him over, applying some numbing cream to help with the pain and then took a step back, his eyes finally meeting Buck’s again. He was looking back at him with so much softness and love that Eddie had to step close to him again and kiss him quickly.
“You scared me,” Eddie whispered, kissing his lips one last time and stepping away before they got caught.
“I’m sorry, promise I’m okay.”
Eddie nodded, taking one last kiss before they had to rejoin the rest of the crew. Eddie knew that Buck was going to be the dead of him, always getting into trouble, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
