funniest scene for mr benedict?
30: The funniest scene they had?
ohhhhh god there's so many to choose from. everything about his interactions with the kids in that first scene of episode one ("ideally not deadly" "no it is. it's weird" "there's rules and then there's RULES there's tests and then there's TESTS" "that was a ruse" (a LIE) "(no change in tone or expression) that was a ruse" (you are very unpleasant) "OHkay" etc etc) is what immediately comes to mind but like. oughhhh i. i cannot CHOOSE. [gently slaps curls] this man can fit so much hilarity in him

i found this blog by accident (i think the tumblr recommendations code or whatever figured out i have a polls addiction) and have had zero interest and experience in this topic but now. now i am so here. but i was wondering where i could go to watch movies with all these actors?? like i’m sure prime video or smthg might have a few classics hanging around but is there a service/website (of any legality) that specialises in vintage films and stuff? or is it really just physical media to get a lot of them? sry if this throws off your askbox, i didn’t know where else to ask! tyia <3
Hi!! I love this ask. Thanks for being here!
I don't know of any service that specializes in old movies, though HBO had a deal with TCM for a while that meant they had several classics on Max—I don't know if that's still a thing. In the meantime, though, the following websites all have "classic" channels that will be filled with great vintage movies to try:
Tubi—free streaming service that includes:
The Manchurian Candidate (Frank Sinatra, James Edwards)
The Philadelphia Story (James Stewart, Cary Grant)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (Dick Van Dyke)
On The Town (Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra)
House on Haunted Hill (Vincent Price)
The Adventures of Robin Hood (Errol Flynn, Basil Rathbone)
A Streetcar Named Desire (Marlon Brando)
The Maltese Falcon (Humphrey Bogart)
Hoopla—free through many libraries:
The Court Jester (Danny Kaye, Basil Rathbone)
War and Peace (Jeremy Brett)
Barefoot in the Park (Robert Redford)
Cabin in the Sky (Rex Ingram)
Wings (Gary Cooper)
Kanopy—free through many libraries:
The General (Buster Keaton)
Flower Drum Song (James Shigeta)
Roman Holiday (Gregory Peck)
Seven Samurai (Toshiro Mifune)
His Girl Friday (Cary Grant)
Wuthering Heights (Laurence Olivier)
Sabrina (Humphrey Bogart)
Paris Blues (Sidney Poitier, Paul Newman)
Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Conrad Veidt)
Youtube also has TONS of movies that have slipped through copyright or "accidentally" ended up there:
Charade (Cary Grant)
The Gay Divorcee (Fred Astaire)
Lying Lips (Carman Newsome, Robert Earl Jones, Oscar Micheaux)
Stormy Weather (Harold Nicholas)
Rebecca (Laurence Olivier)
The Cheat (Sessue Hayakawa)
The Lady Vanishes (Michael Redgrave)
Jungle Book (Sabu Dastagir)
To Sir, With Love (Sidney Poitier)
It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Peter Falk)
What a Way to Go! (Dick Van Dyke, Gene Kelly, Paul Newman)
And of course there are methods of other legality if you want to go searching for titles by hand :)
I haven't seen all of the movies I list here—this is just a sampling of some famous ones, and a few of my secret faves—so be careful if you have trigger warnings and things. Hope you find some great movies!

In March 1534, she rescued Nicholas Bourbon, another evangelical and a poet whom Marguerite of Angouleme had recruited as a tutor to her daughter, Jeanne. His pithy attacks on the inquisitors of Sorbonne had got him imprisoned and his possessions, including his pet nightingale, seized. Bourbon credited his release to Francis [I]'s intervention, but elsewhere his writings show it was at Anne's instigation. Once freed, he travelled to London, where Anne arranged for him to lodge with William Butts and later with Cornelius Hayes and his wife. So grateful was he that his poetry includes a eulogy to Anne, and others to Holbein, who both drew and painted him, and who shared friendship with Butts and Hayes.

Hello TMBS fandom. This is a request for a little help with some of my fic writing from any extraordinary education fans.
So I write mostly for the show, but am at the point where I want to start writing and referencing “show versions” for some of the book characters, and the one I’m working on right now is Violet Hopefield. Sadly, I have not read extraordinary education, and was hoping to get some character details.
I do want to preface this by saying that my intention is to write the character in a way that follows the plot lines I’ve set up, so while I won’t be writing an exact copy of the character, I do want an idea of what she’s like. Think the differences between book and show Noland and Canonball or even book Curtain and show Curtain. Are they the same? No. But you see the book character they are based on in them, while acknowledging that this is a slightly different story and a different version of them, while still enjoying both the show and book versions of the characters.
Head canons or popular head canons are appreciated, but I'm mainly looking for what's canon so if something is "canon to you" based on how the character acts, I'll consider it, but please specify what's canon and what's not.
With that in mind, here's a rundown of what I know and what I'd like to know. I'll start with Violet, but I might include a few things for John too (and I'll have some questions about a few other book characters eventually, but I'll stick with them for now).
Violet Hopefield:
The biggest gripe I think people might have with the way I'd write her is her age. Apparently in the books, the ages are Nicholas (9), John (12), Violet (14). The fandom wikipedia stuff I found only said that Violet had an 8th grade education and didn't list her age, so in a book series about genius kids, I just imagined her being younger than John, around Nicholas' age. Obviously this was a mistake, and given that show Nicholas is 12, that bumps the ages at which he meets them to Nicholas (12), John (15), Violet (17). My question is, if I made her character younger, like...around Nicholas' age, would that completely destroy the character? I know this is a big ask, but please, it's for plot purposes, and you'll be grateful later. I just want to know if it's a situation where "yes the characters are technically different ages, but at the end of the day, they're all just friends hanging out and who the oldest is doesn't really matter" vs. "Violet is the older mature one of the group. This is one of, if not her main defining character trait and changing it completely changes the character." If it's option two, I might still make Violet younger, while being very careful to make her a younger but mature child, like what they did with show Constance where she's not a toddler anymore, but she makes up for it by being extremely violent and fighting falcons (or what they did with the twin's ages, and Number Two and Rhonda's ages, etc.)
I know Violet is deaf, and Nicholas learns sign language to talk to her, but she's extremely good at reading lips. Her disability would for sure be part of the fic, and I've already read tips on and thought about ways I can incorporate this (at the risk of finding false info on ASL signs, I plan on writing when signing occurs, but won't make an attempt to write out the exact hand motions unless I can verify that what I'm describing is factually correct). Her ability to read lips is interesting, and I'm not sure how it's done in the books or whether it's done accurately (It is estimated that only 30% to 40% of speech sounds can be lip-read even under the best conditions and extra information is usually required to understand what is being said. That's from google, but I've heard that stat a lot). I plan to stay true to the books in this regard, but will be highlighting the fact that this is unusual and extremely impressive on Violet's part. How will I be doing that? That's a spoiler so unfortunately, I can't share, but I do have that covered. If there are any descriptions of sign language or aspects of deaf culture included in the books that are also important to include in fic, please let me know (I am also aware that her mother is also deaf, more on her later).
I know she's an artist. Not sure what she likes to draw (people? nature?) or what style she uses (painting? sculpting? sketches?), but if there's info on that, I'll take it. I also know she had an interest in going to art school (the whole Nicholas thing isn't an issues anymore since he's adopted by the Glenn's), so I will have her doing art competitions and stuff like that.
And that's a summation of everything I know about her. Other details that are appreciated are physical appearance (though that's subject to change, the show certainly changed that a lot for some characters, but I'd like to know what I can use), any defining beliefs or principles she lives by or revolves her life around, the top adjectives you think describe her, character quirks (e.g., Kate's bucket), and if possible, some snippets of dialogue from the books that give a good impression of her character.
I'd also like to know if there is anything that falls under the "she would NOT say/do that OR she would not say/do that without very special circumstances. For example, book Curtain would never adopt a child. In the show, he does, and most of us are fine with that, because they explain and clearly show the differences between the show and book characters. In another example, they made show Benedict a more flawed or maybe a better word is relatable mentor. And most of us were fine with that too, again, because they showed us how he arrived at that point. However, if they made Mr. Benedict a mean or unpleasant person, that would totally rip apart his character, regardless of the justification you gave for it. Obviously, what falls into the "would never" and "under the right conditions" categories is subject to debate, so I'll use my best judgment, but would still appreciate a starter list to go off.
Finally, anything else you think is relevant about Violet or her relationships with other characters is appreciated.
John Cole:
I know John Cole is Violet's brother, and he is adopted. I understand this happens in the books and that Nicholas and John are in an orphanage together, but since this is a show version of the character, this will actually happen before Nicholas meets them, but John Cole is still adopted. What I don't know are the circumstances of his adoption. Did the Hopefield's adopt him because he was friends with Violet? Is that why they wanted to adopt Nicholas too? How did the Hopefield's meet him? Do we know anything about John's bio family and culture that differs from the Hopefield's?
I've seen a lot about John Cole and farms. And a post about he and his wife having a farm. Does he actually have a wife in canon? Do the Hopefield's have a farm? Or does John just have "farmer vibes"? Is getting a city job something John would do or did he declare himself to have a deep seated hatred of the big city?
I know John calls Nicholas "Nick" on at least one occasion. Is this what John normally calls him? Do the Hopefield's and Violet call Nicholas "Nick" too, or is this just a "John thing"?
Other details that are appreciated are physical appearance, any defining beliefs or principles John lives by or revolves his life around, the top adjectives you think describe him, character quirks, and if possible, some snippets of dialogue from the books that give a good impression of John's character.
I'd also like to know if there is anything that falls under the "he would NOT say/do that OR he would not say/do that without very special circumstances as discussed above.
Any of course, anything else you think is relevant about John Cole or his relationships with other characters is appreciated.
The Hopefields:
I know Mrs. Hopefield is also deaf. Can she read lips too? Is Mr. Hopefield also deaf?
What are the Hopefield's occupations? I read something about them being miners and poor, not sure if that's accurate.
Why are they interested in adopting? Have they always been interested in adopting? Why did they want to adopt John?
Are there any important aspects to the Hopefield's culture or family philosophy? For example, if the Hopefield's are, say, Jewish or immigrants, or some sort of culture is mentioned, I would like to know so I can represent that properly and not accidently write it out of the story.
Are there any other members of the Hopefield family besides the parents, Violet, and John? Any beloved pets?
Other details that are appreciated are physical appearance, any defining beliefs or principles they live by or revolve their lives around, the top adjectives you think describe them, character quirks, and if possible, some snippets of dialogue from the books that give a good impression of their characters.
I'd also like to know if there is anything that falls under the "they would NOT say/do that OR they would not say/do that without very special circumstances as discussed above.
Any of course, anything else you think is relevant about the Hopefields or their relationships with other characters is appreciated.
Thanks guys! Feel free to add to the post, DM, or drop by my ask box.
And yes, eventually with enough time, I might like to read extraordinary education someday, but I'd likely write this fic first, so I want to get some accurate info. Plot spoilers are fine, that won't deter me from reading it.

Okay, there are so many splits this year that I decided to draw this-
Tumblr media
Let me briefly explain what this is: Every time Mir goes to a new place/encounters a new nightmare/a beneficial change occurs, a split may appear. This started a long time ago, I don’t want to go into details why and how, so let me instead tell you about these 2023’s splits!!!
The year began with the mysterious Gate, which in the end turned out to be not Mir (so here it is only as an example of delusion). He has two prosthetic arms and had a gadget that allowed him to read information (the gadget was destroyed) Nicholas's comment about Gate: "He with two prosthetic arms is still weaker than me with half one of such arm."
Clown appeared parallel to Gate. His peculiarity is that he does not see reality correctly. For him, the world looks like dreamcore, and all creatures are colorful animals. That's why he kills, because in his eyes it is not violence, but only a semblance of a game.
Rook appeared when Mir began to feel a connection with the well...rooks. As a result, he got a second bird mentor!! There is the same version with Falcon
Olive is the one who drew you pictures of Ballister and etc. Didn't interact with anyone, but was quite friendly and nice. He became friends (if you can call it that) with Shift (real name is not known), who turned into a whole world where Olive lived. Currently in anobiotic sleep, imprisoned in an olive tree. And damn, he almost got his own name...
GoldBreaker comes right after Olive, but no longer draws anything and barely breathes between constant battles. It is filled with disappointment and simply cleanses all the mistakes we have made...His fur became this color due to the constant gold that he broke (obviously). By the way, ordinary Mir's skin begins to burn when it comes into contact with gold.
Tired of battles and the golden world, Mir begins to try to explore the ocean – a place that has long frightened him. In parallel with this, due to...circumstances, he chooses to live at sea and becomes a guardian
My memories of the Agent of God are rather hazy, but I know for sure that he joined a cult and fought against the “wrong” ones.
RainGhost is very lonely, living in a rainy valley that is almost impossible for outsiders to enter. After feeling the final betrayal by those he trusted, he asks Nicholas for help and he adds “his numbers to his circle” (literally obliges him to solitude)
I remember Shot the least of all, he appeared for a short period of time. Is a dead Mir, shot in the head.
Warrior is someone who has opened an old Pandora's box, but has only become stronger. He is very much controlled by Nicholas, but only because Warrior allows it. No matter how cruel Nick was, he always turned out to be right, so...Well, yes, he received four prosthetics, the prosthetics on his arms symbolize the “meaninglessness of reflecting a nightmare”. The circles above his head represent the strong influence of Shane and Nick on him.
And we ended the year with Hydra! Hydra as a mythical creature (in the Mir's universe) means split, a common mind, but many bodies. This doesn't make the hydra weak, but on the contrary, it gives it strength and endurance and...damn, considering this year, it looks like an obvious end to it.
Yeah, Mir's lore goes hard-

Alright, alright, I know everybody and their pet peregrine falcon The fastest animal on Earth. When diving. has come up with ideas about the kids switching places some how, but I was consumed with the idea of SQ and Constance being switched.
Because. It would be fascinating to see, in my opinion. Especially with the concept of SQ being more coherent/traditionally visibly intelligent before Curtain brainsweeping him fifteen hundred times.
SO BUCKLE UP BECAUSE I AM APPARENTLY GETTING MORE DERANGED BY THE DAY AND MY SELF-CONTROL HAS SLIPPED A CONCERNING AMOUNT
First thing's first: We're staying mostly in the Show Universe for this, with a few book elements. Child Acquiring Methods are also switched, so SQ would have been adopted by Nicholas as a baby, and Constance got enrolled kidnapped at the Institute. Other than that, ages/appearances/personalities for the most part are staying the same
Now, since SQ's considerably older than Constance/the Core Four, his story starts first.
Also, since we're approximating that SQ is only a few years younger than Rhonda, she's not there yet
A short time after Number Two joined the Benedicts, Nicholas was alerted to a baby entering the childcare system. One of his old classmates, a scientist whom he had been fairly close to (up until he took a mysterious job opportunity and somewhat disappeared...), had passed away, and his only son was being held for processing because this colleague had named Nicholas the inheritor of his entire estate and also his child
(I can't remember the proper legal jargon at this time of night I'm sorry)
Nicholas is, of course, super surprised, because he hasn't seen this friend in years, but when he gets to look at some of this guy's papers he notices that things at his job are sounding super suspicious
He also notes that this guy has nobody to take his kid, and when he wrote the stuff about SQ in his will, he also wrote a note begging Nicholas to take him because he doesn't want his child to get thrown into an orphanage because with the Emergency and everything he knows they aren't being run well
(Although it would be really neat to see how it would have gone if SQ'd been friends with Reynie from the get-go)
So, Nicholas of course goes and signs whatever papers needed to take SQ home, and he kind of forgets to double-check with the others
Luckily, they knew there was no way he was coming home without the kid, and were taking bets on how long it would take him
(Number Two won because she said it was only going to take the minimal time for paperwork. Milligan thought it might take a few hours longer, but he was being generous)
So, the crew now has a baby!!
They call him "Shep" just like. So much. He goes by that as much as "SQ" and he's got so many other nicknames because his name is perfect for them
He grows up so well loved, and he has bunches more confidence. He's still very quiet, but he knows how to use it to his advantage and blend in when he wants to. He does art all of the time, and there is tons of his stuff hung up everywhere
(This does also mean he has a relationship with Violet Hopefield because I still really want that to happen)
He doesn't really call Nicholas "dad", just because there was a lot going on and they never had the time to really work out a parental title, and also Nicholas Does Not feel qualified to be a dad
SQ just calls him either Mr. Benedict like the girls or maybe Uncle Nick or something
He helps with the tests!! When they get everything set up and SQ is around the age of most of the kids who try he's the Pencil Kid!!
Or, at least he tries
He's great at the pencil part of it, and though he's a bit disheartened by the sheer number of kids who don't stop and help, he does his best.
But, the issue comes up with the "Offering to Help Cheat" part. Even as a ten/eleven year old, he can't get over the fact that he's tempting a child to cheat and lie about something, and he tries to be brave but the first time he gets so nervous he starts crying and Milligan has to pop in to save him
So, the cheating part gets put on hold for a bit, until Rhonda comes along :) She helps him, and he's older at that point, so by the time Reynie and everyone get there he can do the whole thing on his own
(They'd have done it with Number Two, but I get the feeling she can't lie very well. This could be totally off, but this is not vitally important to the altered plot so I am going to stop getting hung up on it now)
Once Rhonda shows up, she and SQ are thick as thieves, and since I think Number Two isn't that much older than Rhonda herself, they're their own little group of chaotic siblings
As they all get older, Number Two and Rhonda get more protective of SQ because it becomes apparent that unless no kids at all come along for the next several years, SQ will have to go to the island without them because he's the only one still young enough
Constance's story relies more on the books, and she ends up at the Institute because she isn't able to escape from the Recruiters who come after her
So, she gets dumped at the Institute as a kidnapping victim
(This is maybe six months to a year or two before Nicholas' team gets there, since we're mixing book and show and trying to keep a somewhat consistent timeline)
Curtain isn't sure about trying to brainsweep her, because she's a tiny young child, but after he gets a chance to actually speak to her, he decides he needs to at least try it because she's so obstinate
However, Constance somehow breaks the Brainsweeper
It manages to cover up some of her memories, and it actually hides even the beginnings of her psychic ability from her, but Curtain is so freaked out that he doesn't try again
While her brain is trying to adjust, he gets her to agree to stay for a bit because she is obviously super confused, and because her powers have been muted she feels like something vitally important to her is missing
So, Constance stays
And one day, despite her being. Just. Super bad at classes and all of the students/teachers being like "Why is he keeping her around she does literally nothing but nap in class and scare the older kids"
Curtain sticks her in the Whisperer to see what happens
(He's been paranoidly improving it since Constance arrived and is now fairly confident that it'll be fine. Or he can get Garrison to fix it)
And, lo and behold, something happens
The Whisperer is suddenly boosted really well
There aren't really any messages being sent out, but that just motivates Curtain to work on recording the messages so he can use the students who actually learned the lessons and then distribute them using Constance like a battery
Constance, for her part, feels closer to finding that missing piece of her than she has for weeks
Because the Brainsweeper buried her psychic powers, she doesn't immediately destroy the Whisperer, but they're still there, so she recognises that there's something in it that speaks to her
So, Constance is successfully persuaded to stay, because she wants to use the Whisperer sessions to figure out what she's missing, and Curtain is happy to let her do pretty much whatever she wants as long as she'll cooperate
About this time she meets the Executive Trio!!
Martina is not super fond of Constance initially, because she's a chaotic little gremlin who doesn't really care about tetherball
But, Constance comes to respect Martina for her ferocity and determined nature, and so they strike up a tenuous relationship of mutual respect and staying out of each other's business for the most part
Jackson and Jillson Are Not Fans of Constance because she Does Not Respect Them
However, J&J are not able to bust her on breaking any rules or anything because Curtain needs her, so all of the small stuff they try and report he just dismisses, and any of the bigger stuff like trespassing and snooping she's smart enough to get away with anyway
(She also doesn't do too much of it because she doesn't have a goal yet, she's just poking her nose into some "Employee Only" hallways and things)
By the time the other kids show up she's made herself queen of the school between Curtain's special treatment and her own personality
She doesn't rely on Curtain very much, because he's suspicious as all get out, but she isn't exactly sure what's going on either
Reynie, Sticky, and Kate show up about now!!
It goes much the same for their tests, except SQ is playing Rhonda's part
He does a great job, and they are all thoroughly confused by him, but they stop and, of course, they all stop to help him with the Pencil Problem
He offers them the test answers, and each of them avoids cheating (Which he's very excited about)
When they meet up again at the house, SQ apologises profusely for deceiving them, just like Mr. Benedict does
(Rhonda and Number Two roll their eyes a little because the boys are so nervous about that kind of stuff, and sometimes you have to do some crime in order to get good things done)
The Benedicts explain the mission and the Sender and everything, and that SQ is going to help lead the team because he has the most information about everything
He helps them prep and learn Morse code and walk through the steps of what they're going to do, while Rhonda, Milligan, Number Two, and Mr. B do their whole falsifying papers rigmarole
When they get to the island, all three boys are immediately super successful in class, and they work with Kate to help her
Sticky still gets caught, but this time SQ panics and gets himself caught too in an attempt to get the blame off his friend
(It's kind of like a whole "I am Spartacus" bit except they're both so obviously guilty looking that the teacher doesn't even consider letting Sticky off the hook)
Reynie and Kate are in a tizzy trying to work out what on earth they're going to do, but then Kate runs into Martina
And cue the Tetherball Plot point!!
Martina tells Kate about Constance (who has been skipping class in favour of wandering around exploring) and how weird it is that Curtain keeps her around when she just kind of breaks all the rules
Meanwhile, Sticky and SQ are being interrogated by Curtain
(Since there's two of them, it goes a bit different)
He gets both of them in the office first thing, and he works out that SQ is the "leader" in this incident (Because he keeps trying to take all the blame)
So, he puts Sticky in the Waiting Room and cracks down on SQ, since the kid feels responsible for Sticky it places a lot of pressure on him, and he just keeps telling Curtain that it wasn't Sticky's fault
But he's caught now because he doesn't want to give the other two away, and if he gets sent home himself, then he won't be able to help them at all
Curtain does his super mysterious and aggressive questioning, and then he sends SQ into the Waiting Room and interrogates Sticky
Sticky also refuses to give anything up, so Curtain just sends them both out, saying that he'll probably call them back tomorrow
So, the boys get to go back to Reynie and Kate, who are overjoyed to see that they're doing alright
AND THAT'S WHERE WE'RE ENDING IT BECAUSE MY BRAIN IS SO THOROUGHLY BURNT OUT IT'S RUNNING ON EXHAUST FUMES RIGHT NOW

Replaying Nancy Drew without cheating - Part Four: The Final Scene
Tumblr media
AND HERE IT IS....
Is The Final Scene the MOST brilliant game in the entire Nancy Drew series??
Hear me out. It has literally everything you could ever want out of a Nancy Drew game. Danger. Mystery. A ticking clock. A lack of pointless chores. An intriguing backstory. An amazing soundtrack. An extremely sassy Nancy. A caked up Nicholas Falcone.
I think the ONLY thing that is missing from this game, honestly, is length. I think it is well-known in the community that this game is too short, especially on replay, but I recently learned that this was the first game that HerInteractive put out on a 2-a-year schedule, so the development was rushed. After TRT, the company almost could not afford to continue making games, so they had to switch strategies. Technically, FIN saved the franchise. In that context, the only disappointment is that they didn’t have more time to work on this absolute MASTERPIECE.
Tumblr media
I also think my love for this game has grown after reading the book that it’s based on. Queen Simone Mueller was adapted from a boring male Simon Mueller, the talented Louisa Falcone was adapted froma boring male Louis Falcone. The Harry Houdini storyline was completely new in the game. Brady Armstrong having a vested interest in the theater demolition was also new in the game and made him a much more interesting and sinister character. I know that this book was written in the 80s, but Bess’s one-dimensionality (obsessed with food and boys) annoys me; much happier to see Vietnamese-American college student as the kidnapee instead.
Not cheating in this game was super easy for me. It’s another game I’ve played a dozen times, so even if I didn’t remember the exact sequence of events, I quickly was able to move the game along. I finished in under 3 hours, and that is with being consistently distracted by the NFL game my fiance had on in the background. Having three distinct days makes this game very sequential and hard to get stuck.
Some random thoughts I had during this replay:
1. Someone put this soundtrack on vinyl, PLEASE. I would literally murder someone to play this in the background while reading a book and smoking a joint on my couch.
2. Even as a child, I loved Nicholas Falcone. There is just something about a man with a passion. Nothing used to turn me on (still does turn me on) than Nicholas’s intellectual negging of a dim-witted Brady Charmstrong during the press conference. This was also the first time I really took the time to listen to the entire press conference from the ticket booth...pure gold.
Tumblr media
3. Speaking of the ticket booth, taking to Sargeant Ramsay on the phone is absolutely hilarious. Who is this voice actor? Someone find him and give him more gigs. And Eustacia Andropov? An incredible character and a treat of a phone call as well. WHO WROTE THIS SCRIPT?? I think this is probably the funniest game there is.
4. Let’s just go ahead and go through some of the best quotes of the game.  “I may have to cut this short, Hal. Someone just climbed out of my wardrobe.” (entirely unphased) “I think your phone’s about to ring.” “Take a breath and pinch yourself, because it’s reeeally happening: Brady Armstrong, in the flesh. Star of Vanishing Destiny? Go ahead, faint. I’ll catch you.” “Why don’t you tell that little grey troll that I think he did it just to keep himself from dying of boredom in this old dump. THAT’s my comment.” “Fight the power.” (a classic) "Mr. Charmstrong, do you find that your fans respond to you more in your chicken suit or curly wig?" “Maybe you’d better think about being ‘in on the law’ and ‘down with the truth’ Nicholas.” “More? I’m 96 over here. I don’t exactly have time to burn.” “You tell that Sherman Trout Eustacia said, ‘You’re not dead yet, Shermie, so get up and make yourself useful.’” “Armstrong: Uh, do we still like him or what?”
5. Joseph always scared the hell out of me. Even to this day. He is creepy and he IS a little grey troll. Why is he constantly trying to get me to leave the theater and go to bed in the middle of the day? Why is he lying about his brother Jake? Why is he always popping up in the most chilling way possible? I hate him. I suspected him from the very beginning.
Tumblr media
6. When Nancy says that Maya never goes ANYWHERE without her press pass...ma’am you are an undergrad student at Washington University. Please calm down.
7. Not sure if anyone remembers, but back in the day on the HerInteractive message boards people used to put all the games they had finished in their signature for all their posts. Some would just put a list of all the games, but others would get creative (including me, although it wasn’t creativity on my part as much as it was copying other people). Their signature would say things like “I have Stayed Tuned for Danger,” or “I have discovered The Secret of the Scarlet Hand.” FIN’s was “I have seen The Final Scene” and I still to this day say this whenever I talk about this game with anyone. Throwback.
8. I never would have figured out the gum on wand bit if not for the message boards back in the day, and my memory of it now.
9. This is a game that is more about the mystery and less about the puzzles. I loved this one, even though this is probably the hardest part of the entire game (besides the gum on wand thing).
Tumblr media
10. The ending is SO intense. Because I know exactly what to do, it is less so, but the whole thing still gives me goosebumps. That timer in the corner quickly ticking down? Hiding in the closet when the police do their final sweep? Joseph being an absolute psychopath? The focus knob breaking off? The KEYS? MAYA BEHIND GLASS?? TRYING TO BREAK THE GLASS WITH A SLEDGEHAMMER? JOSEPH BEING A PSYCHOPATH AGAIN?? (I can let it slide that defeating the culprit involves flashing them with a cheap prize from an ancient game in a decaying basement. It’s still so good).
11. Also, I have a print of this in my house right now because of this game. I don’t even know the artist, but I love it.
Tumblr media
So thankful to rediscover my love for this game. Can it top Treasure in a Royal Tower and Dexter’s sexy, raspy voice? Maybe not. But it is up there.
Next stop: DC!
