Literally insane to me how small the general webtoon fandom is outside of the webtoon app itself (and maybe reddit??)

I've talked to multiple people irl who LOVE reading webtoon, but the online community is borderline threadbare ! Most people on Tumblr have no IDEA who our blorbos are! I've checked tags for some fairly popular webtoon and it was like visiting that Tatooine town in the Mandalorian where there are 5 citizens total, but only if you also count the Mayor, the sheriff, and the deputy.

Lore Olympus is the most popular webtoon and has under 2,000 fics on AO3. Lookism has roughly 1,000. Unordinary, THEE legacy webtoon, only has 600, and it's been running for almost 7 years now. It has nearly 6M subscribers and still gets 50K+ likes each week. It's not dead by any means.

I guess it doesn't help that each webtoon is its own micro ecosystem and once a webtoon ends, that ecosystem typically fades with it. But webtoons can go on runs longer than most shows on streaming services, and those fandoms burn hot and bright even if only for the first month of a new season drop.

By comparison, webtoon fans are largely casual about their enthusiasm, even if they're highly invested in the story or characters. From my experience, only the most passionate try to connect with other fans online. But when you're passionate about one webtoon, I suppose it's hard to show constant excitement about the 20+ other stories one might keep up with. Still, between the 85 million monthly readers, you'd think each major webtoon would at least have a dedicated fan base (meaning people who regularly post theories, thoughts, fics, and fanart) of mere thousands outside of the app.

One exception for this is that Batman webtoon? It actually trends on Tumblr every now and again. But it doesn't count, because Batman has a built in fandom who'll eat up and yell in the streets about any content where he's a decent dad.

People who read romance webtoon all tend to read the same comics, and actively understand the references to other popular romance comics (Trashta, Team Seojun, SLS), so you'd think there'd be a greater sense of unity. More people actively searching out others to discuss with and posting their thoughts online and not just in that webtoon's comment section.

Some absolute ass gave me a cold so I’m spending my time documenting what Percy Jackson cabins I think other fictional characters belong to and Merlin had to be the first so…

Merlin: Hecate (would be Athena but he’s a fucking idiot sometimes.)

Arthur: Athena (Incredible battle smarts, strategy and skill but no common sense, smart blonde himbo.)

Morgana: Tyche (She ran into Arthur and Merlin way too many times to not have the goddess of luck on her side,)

Gwen: Iris (literally no explanation needed, especially for s1-s3 Gwen)

Gwaine: Hermes (would be Dionysus but he spends more time saying the most ridiculous things and yes my man’s constantly drunk but that’s the state i want to be in so I’m not letting him win.)

Elyan: Iris (Again no explanation)

Percival: Ares (he’s the soft son of Ares, Incredible fighter, only a son of ares would refuse to ever wear sleeves, especially in the dead of Winter.)

Lancelot: Athena (Literally the only ones in Camelot with a brain cell which went with him when he died… both times.)

Gaius: Apollo (Apparently the only one in Camelot who knows how to put a bandage on??? Maybe he should pass on some of his medical knowledge so people stop dying before they can get back to Camelot.)

Uther: Nemesis (Mother is the goddess of revenge and the whole show is literally based on Uther and his revenge genocide on magic users after Ygraine so… pretty accurate if you ask me.)

Mordred: Hecate (literally a druid, albeit a fucking angry one who was trusted with sharp objects for some reason…)

he’s 10/10 Apollo… purely based off his reaction to Merlin saying he’s teaching Arthur poetry and his reaction to Merlin juggling. absolute pure joy and also just he has those vibes

What is it about black haired blue/green eyed characters that have such a choke hold on me. They are literal fucking powerhouses but also have so much trauma and hurt and they just deserve so much better.

Dick Grayson? The first Robin, trained by Batman and literally everyone bc everyone likes him, and has successfully led multiple teams. But so much fucking trauma that he just pushed down and then it never mentioned again. Like losing his parents, getting fired and kicked out, tarantula, blockbuster, spyral, Ric, etc. and still being good. Deserves Better

Damian Wayne? Same thing he is a machine. Trained in the league and raised to kill but so much trauma. The way he became that machine, killed by his clone, the loss of Alfred, etc. Deserves Better

Merlin? Emrys? Most powerful warlock to ever live. Saved Arthur’s life for years without anyone’s knowledge. Could literally do anything that was needed all in secret. Like being hurt but still keeping up the the Dolma disguise and summoning the white goddess. The entire battle of Camlann when he gets his powers back. A fucking dragon lord. Buts still lives in fear of his best friend finding out he has magic and since it’s illegal being killed. The weight of the prophecy. The knowledge of what Morgana and Mordred turn into. The deaths of everyone starting with Will and ending with Arthur the one person he swore to always protect. Let’s not forget that he is still waiting for his return. Deserves Better

Percy Jackson? A child of the big three. One of the most powerful demigods ever and the best swordsman in the last hundred years aside from Luke. Erupted Mt. St Helens, made a hurricane in the middle of NY, defeat Ares and Hades, got the curse of Achilles, defeated Titans, gods, and giants. Hero of Olympus. But so much trauma. Gabe, his first quest at 12 years old, a war before 16, being the child of the prophecy, losing his memories and still going on a quest, being part of another prophecy, and let’s not forget that he fell in Tartarus and faced Tartarus himself. Deserves Better

Honorable mention: Sam Winchester? Saved the world multiple times, never seems to stay dead, one of the two best hunters, stopped the apocalypse, and defeated literal god. But so much trauma. The way he was raised, getting out and them back in bc hid girlfriend was killed, died, came back, tried to stop his brother from going to hell, failed and watched him die via hellhound, hooked on demon blood, let out Lucifer, hopped into the cage with Lucifer and Micheal, his body came back soulless so his soul was in hell for years bc time runs differently in hell, gets soul back but it counts with hallucinations, dies so many times, watched so many people die and so much more. The Winchesters in general go through so much shit. Deserves Better

BBC Merlin characters as children of Greek Gods / Goddesses

Arthur Pendragon - Son of Zeus Children of Zeus are normally known to be strong and independent leaders, like Arthur was shown to be in the show. Most children of Zeus normally strive towards a particular ambition, which Arthur does throughout the show. Most children also normally have a strong sense of justice, which is again shown through Arthur and his retaliation against his father with things that Arthur thought was wrong, sometimes even refusing to act upon orders. Also, I want to add that most children of Zeus are seen as “Physically fit and attractive” and honestly, that is just Arthur. Merlin / Emrys - Son of Hecate Ok ok hear me out with this one. Children of Hecate are literally children of witchcraft; therefore, it makes perfect sense for Merlin to be the Son of the Goddess of Witchcraft. Hecate’s children are also known to be considerably mysterious, sneaking around and not answering to anyone but themselves, seen by Merlin as through most of the show, everyone in Camelot has no idea of what he is actually doing and where he is from. Children of Hecate are considerably stronger when using magic, like Merlin. They can also make strong potions and remedies, and with Merlin being Gaius’ apprentice, it again makes sense. Morgana - Daughter of Zeus - Hunter of Artemis This makes a lot of sense. Most of them being the same reasons I previously mentioned with Arthur. But Morgana has an extremely rebellious side to her, as seen in the show. She knows exactly what she wants to do and how she wants to overcome the obstacles to get to that. She thinks about her plans a great deal but can also be quite reckless. And making Morgana a Hunter of Artemis, I just feel like it’s her. In the show, she has been shown never to have any romantic relation with any males, so it just makes sense. Plus, Hunters are badass, and Morgana is pretty badass. Mordred - Son of Hades Children of Hades tend to keep to themselves a lot, not really speaking or interacting with other people. Also, Hades’s children tend to hold grudges, as seen by Mordred with holding the grudge against Merlin and Arthur for destroying the Druid camp he was staying at, making Mordred a son of Hades. They tend to have “dark attitudes” and are not very trusted amongst others, like how Merlin didn’t trust Mordred. So yeah! Gwen- Daughter of Dike Dike is the Goddess of Justice, Fair Judgements and Law. That's all I have to say. Because Gwen has a good sense of justice throughout the show, making fair judgements and is honestly one of the most lawful characters in the show and you can fight me
