I’ll never call myself a sam apologist because he has nothing to apologize for

The Purge is one of supernaturals most interesting episodes fr. The poignant look at dean and Sam’s relationship is nearly unmatched tbh. We see Dean for what he is, and how Sam himself has taken the fact that Dean superseded his wishes and allowed gadreel to take over his body and mind. Sam’s hurt and need to tone down the relationship to “just business” is incredibly warranted. It’s a sad thing that we continue to see Deans self destructive tendencies and fear of being alone leave him mostly incapable of growth in that area, even in later seasons.
I also find it sad that Sam continues to be in the shadow of Deans own pedestal that he has for Sam. He is the end all be all for Dean, and that can cause Sam a lot of hurt.
Anyway, I could wax on, but I will not

"Sam, for what it's worth, I don't think you're crazy, I think your internal compass is functioning perfectly."
That line, said by an Angel of the Lord, specifically about something that does not cause harm to Sam,
That moment absolutely healed something profound within Sam

My brother randomly decided to agree to watch Supernatural with me, and now we’ve almost finished season one. We recently watched “Faith” (1x12) and we watched the scene where Dean is all like “I’m dying and there’s nothing you can do to stop it.” And Sam just replies “Watch me.” And I love that line so much because I feel like it really encapsulates Sam as a character. Sam is told again and again that something is impossible or can’t be done, and EVERY SINGLE TIME he does it! He was told he couldn’t overpower Lucifer and get him in the cage, and that’s exactly what he did. He’s told that it’s impossible to cure the Mark of Cain, and what does he do? He cures it. I just… Sam is so determined and I admire his dedication and perseverance.

Okay so if Dean Winchester had a bar, head canon summary: (little destiel and sabriel here too)
-He would have a faulty juke box and spend a lot of time trying not to get it to only play one annoying song that he liked in the first place but now despises
- Cas would deal with all the ales and beer in the cellar because he is an organisation king when it comes to some things
-Dean goes full handy man mode and fixes all the run down bar stools
-There are neon signs and classic bar decor that he loves when he goes to a bar
- Dean begged sam and Cas to let him by a mechanical bull but they denied him
-Sam would help run the socials with Dean but mainly help with a menu set up and hiring, he tries to leave it to Dean so he can have something of his own for once
-Dean would be really protective of the girls that drink there because of the sleesebags he used to see in bars (maybe slightly partake in some of the douchbagery) but he is especially friendly towards the regulars
-Dean makes fun of Sam for bringing Eileen in every couple of nights for a date night but secretly thinks it’s cute
-Cas and Dean even have a little dance sometimes after close (and a lil smooch)
- Dean has free little bar snacks too
- They hire mainly local kids who need sort of training up because then they can kind of learn on the job together (over 21 because Americans are legally not allowed to drink under 21 I think)
-Dean has music on at the bar if all kinds of genre and lets locals have a jam night every two weeks or so
-The bathrooms are all unisex and ungendered
———————————-————————-
These rattle round in my brain and might even write a fix if they get really stuck so enjoy!

The writers are basically turning Sam into a Woman in the Refrigerator while Dean is doing his little thing and then has to come to the rescue and it has become increasingly apparent in the past season and now at the start of Season 12 and literally why is your only plot arc for Sam to make him revive his worst traumas and suffering both physically and emotionally and literally nothing else while Dean gets to kiss the girl and a roadtrip with his mum!?!?!?
foot note: I don't hate Dean (bloody hell it wouldn't make sense to hate half of my otp). He's my baby and I want to hug him and take him to a fucking therapist. I'm just getting increasingly upset about the clear disproportion here and I bet I'm not the only one who noticed.

I think that the Supernatural fandom doesn't give Dean Winchester enough credit or hold John Winchester accountable nearly enough. I would argue that John's abuse (mental, emotional and physical) and its constant effect in both boys lives is constantly downplayed by a majority of the fanbase.
The parentification of an elder sibling has been proven to cause lasting issues and we see this throughout the show; when Dean is overly protective of Sam, treats Sam's life as more valuable than his own, can't picture a life where he's not needed, and his dismissal of Sam as a valuable contributor in an equal partnership. Dean is often criticized both in canon and by fans for being overbearing and codependent on Sam. This is a direct result of John Winchester's inability to parent.
Dean's emotional repression is shown to be caused by his father's militant behaviors and approach to parenting. Dean doesn't see his feelings as valid or important and thus turns to repression or unhealthy coping mechanisms as illustrated throughout the show. His alcoholism, violent outbursts, and unhealthy relationship with sex are all coping mechanisms he uses not to feel.
Through flashbacks (and some dialog) the viewer is show that Sam is more resentful towards John than Dean, and that he even holds resentment towards Dean for being the "perfect little soldier".
That's part of the reason Castiel is such a great foil for Dean, both are loyal to absent fathers' but while Dean was born with free will he follows his father's orders unwaveringly until sometime after his death, Cass a being created without free will breaks free of the command of his father and from his father's mission, becoming for all intents and purposes a Prodigal son like Sam.
Dean's adherence to his father's word is, much like Sam's rebellion a response to continued and repeated abuse, neither brother is perfect. And their father was the furthest thing from it.

Sam has been through SO MUCH and would be totally entitled to being a villain.
But he’s still so kind and selfless. Constantly putting others before himself when he SHOULD be taking over the world

You see the problem is if they had revisited Sam's demon blood addiction it absolutely would have been in the situation of victim blaming Sam and forcing him to be addicted to Lucifer's blood

The way Destiel makes me physically sick… all that buildup, all that character development, the angst, the feels - just to end. It was right there, but then they just haaaad to kill Cas? Yes, the parallels and the cinematography and the acting is out of this world and it HURTS - having Dean go through losing him one last time, unable to do ANYTHING, not even having a body left behind… being completely broken but finishing off the big guy anyway… being lost and then DYING ON A FUCKING HUNT CAUSED BY LOOSE ENDS FROM FUCKING JOHN and telling Sam to let him go and tell him it’s okay, only to go to heaven and hear about his parents when all he wanted was Cas. And they deserved so much more and I just arghhh it makes me so sad because it’s so beautiful, but it makes me so unbelievably angry. We deserved to have Cas come back to save Dean at the last second. Breaking all the rules. We deserved to see them happy in heaven. Dean breaking free from the mental chokehold his father had of him and letting himself be happy with Cas. Anything.
