❦summary; even then, he's still your little kitty ♪the characters in this story; gn!prefect!reader, overblot!grim ✎word count; 1,306 ❀what do the ghosts say?; platonic, angst, kinda set in my own little au (explained in a.n), grim can't really talk ☛the author's notes; okay, so basically this is something that i thought up of before ignihyde chapter came out and i thought that grim would overblot after pomefiore chapter. what happens is that the prefect finds that grim has overblot and manages to convince crowley to let them keep grim somewhere that's on the very edge of the school grounds since they couldn't find a way to undo the overblot ☪look at the catalogue?

It was Friday again.

Friday meant that you would be packing your bag with snacks, clothes, and a blanket, as well as the key to Ramshackle for when you got back.

Friday meant that one of the staff members, usually either Crowley, Trein, or Crewel, would take you out of the main school grounds towards the edge of the forest, where there would be a large hut.

Friday meant that after dropping you off there, the staff member would make sure you would be okay before telling you they would be back the next morning.

Friday meant that you would get to see Grim again.

The forest around the hut always seemed to be cold, even if the day was warmer. You walk towards the hut and open the door, being met quickly by a roar that would be deafening, yet you’ve already gotten used to it. He always did that, a loud roar that was quickly followed by him attempting to lunge towards you. At first, it always made you jump back, afraid that he would attempt to maul you. Yet, you eventually got used to it, even after all those nights spent crying.

You drop your bag by the door, a tired smile on your lips as you face Grim. You wave at him, opening your arms wide to him, as if expecting him to jump into your arms for a hug. Yet the chains that are wrapped around him keep Grim right where he was.

“Hey Grim, I’m back!” You call out to him, a smile spread on your lips, as you look up at Grim. He was big, befitting his title of a monster. Claws sharper than they were before, a mane around his neck that was a shade darker than his usual coat. His only had the faintest of blue, just small pinpricks swallowed in black. Still, he looked the same as ever to you, still that small kitty with bright blue eyes and a furry coat, always hungry for another bite of food.

In response to your greeting, all you get is a low, rumbling growl, Grim’s eyes narrowing. It makes a bitter smile curl on your lips. You begin talking again, walking towards your bag and pulling out the snacks and cans of tuna that you had packed. They were bigger than the ones he normally ate. Sam always specially gave these to you for ‘your beasty friend.’ They weren’t sold on his shelves for anyone else.

“Sorry that there isn’t as much as last time, some of the other cans from the shipment got damaged.” You chuckle to yourself even as Grim continues to tug at the restraints around him, each time huffing and growling lowly.

You finally get all the cans of tuna out, smiling at Grim as you approach him. There’s a line on the floor and Grim attempts to lunge at you again. He never passes the line. Not after last time.

“Look! It’s your favorite!” Holding up one of the cans, you shake it a bit, as if trying to get his attention on the food. It doesn’t work, he’s still growling, snapping, snarling. You sigh, lowering the can of tuna as you stare at him.

Your eyes sting.

It’s always like this, this repeated routine.

The snarls and growls, the lunging at you. He never eats the tuna you bring him, it ends up getting crushed under his paws each time he stomps his foot against the large tiles. You could still see the splatter stain on the floor. You don’t know if Grim managed to lick it up or one of the staff managed to do so. You let the cans of tuna in your arms drop to the floor, making a loud sound. Some of them roll away, you’ll have to get those later, some just clattering and spinning around in place before being brought to a halt.

The small piece of hope in you is what keeps bringing you back, yet the pain of it all dampens your spirits. Each time, each try, each attempt at trying to bring Grim to the way he was before feels hopeless.

You can’t get close, the scar on your stomach is a reminder. You’ve tried all sorts of things by yourself, you don’t want to bring other people into this, the fear of what could happen to Grim more prominent than the thought of asking for help. You thought you could do this on your own, you wanted to be able to do this on your own. Grim was your friend, your only friend, the only family you had in Twisted Wonderland.

Oh, and there are the tears again.

Tears fall down your cheeks in quick drops, covering your skin and making it damp. You crouch down, covering your face as it grows hot. You let yourself cry as you please, crouched on the cold solid ground.

You want Grim back, you need to have Grim back. You have your friends, Ace, Deuce, Malleus, everyone else. You know you have them to fall back on, but school isn’t forever.

Malleus would be a senior next year. Ace and Deuce would have their own issues and own families. Summer was coming close, the school would be empty.

To Twisted Wonderland, you never really existed. You just came to be. You were basically nobody. You were the Prefect, Malleus’ first friend, the one who solved all the overblots. That’s what you were for everyone else.

But with Grim, you could be something for somebody. You were his family, each other’s family.

You don’t know how much time you’ve spent crying, or if Grim was still trying to lunge towards your throat. All you know is that when you look up at Grim again, he’s silent. His large body, instead of on his stomach, larger head placed between his paws. He’s silently licking at, something on the ground, something blue on his tongue.

It’s the tuna that you dropped, being lapped up and eaten by Grim. The sight of it, of him eating the canned food, can and all, makes you want to start crying again. Yet, you laugh.

You laugh even as more tears creep down your cheeks. You watch as Grim reaches a paw for another one of the cans. This one is farther than the previous, past the line. You crawl over to the can that Grim was reaching for and roll it over to him. He’s quick to snatch it up, putting it into his mouth and chewing it up. It makes another laugh that’s combined with a sob leave you as you watch him eat. It’s both a comforting and heartbreaking sight.

“Oh Grim...” You managed to call out to him through your laughter and tears, palms wiping at your eyes even though the tears continue to roll down your cheeks.

Grim finishes up the second can and vies for another, which you roll over to him.

And this was how you spent your night. You watch Grim eat tuna, finish the tuna, and then roll another can over to watch him do it all over again.

Even if you were still crying, even if you felt cold because the night was furthering on, even if you were beginning to get tired, your heart felt so warm, seeing Grim eat and gnash at the tuna.

Before you know it, it’s sunrise.

Sunrise means that you would have to pack your bags and say goodbye to Grim. Sunrise meant that you would wait outside of the hut for one of the staff members to pick you up. Sunrise meant you would travel pack to the main school grounds and rest in your bed for the day.

Going back to NRC, without Grim, meant that you would always be back the next Friday.

TWST Monster AU Ideas (NSFW)

IDK if I'm gonna do an AU where NRC is just filled with non-humans and MC is the only human or have a completely different setting where it's basically fantasy village filled with the TWST boys but monsters. For beastmen basically just give them animal heads and like... Fantasy beastfolk. Same with mers they're basically the same but more monster features.

Either way I want thoughts on what monsters each guy would be

Riddle - Centaur- based off competitive/show horse

Ace - Satyr (maybe make shortstack for size diff)

Deuce - Rabbitfolk/half rabbitfolk? (Shortstack?)

Cater - Slime/ooze (Can do the duplication spell but not because he just splits himself)

Trey - Minotaur

Leona - Lionfolk/Leonin

Ruggie - Hyenafolk/Gnoll

Jack - Wolffolk/worgen

Azul - Octomer but big/kraken?

Jade & Floyd - Eel mer but more monsterous (more teeth and creepier)

Kalim - Harpy (parrot or bird of paradise based)

Jamil - Naga (definitely keeping the hypnotism)

Vil - Incubus ;)

Rook - Bugbear/firbolg/troll idk something big with a tail and some tusks mayhaps

Epel - fairy/pixie (even more size difference)

Idia - Ghost

Malleus - Dragon (basically the same but humanoid form is glamour and still he has lots of scales and his tail and wings and of course horns)

Lilia - Bat monster (basically giant bat with some human-like features)

Silver - Centaur (based off work/war horse)

Sebek - Lizardfolk/Drake/Dragonborn/maybe kobold? (for size difference)

Neige - Angel

Che’nya - Catfolk/Tabaxi

Dire Crowley - Crow harpy

Divus Crewel - Human? Maybe breeds monsters like monster husbandry.

Mozus Trein - Human? Maybe also a monster fucker so monster fucker mentor? Or just the friend that judges your taste.

Ashton Vargas - Chimera/Manticore (looking like Beast)

Sam - Undead? Ghoul/zombie? A friend from the other side?

Have you ever thought of the imposter au with the staff of raven College? I could just imagine Crewel being the reason the reader is summoned to twst while not fulling knowing it (Probably coming in at the end to safe then after realize shits going down). That and maybe Crowley and Vargas going full mad dog and just chasing the reader like crazy. Maybe Trein tripping over his cat while chasing and reader/imposter feeling bad about it. Along with Sam using shadow creature to track the imposter down. Just a fun ideas I've been having, feel free to ignore.

I have thought about it before. I believe I even once mentioned that I would make a separate post for it eventually. Recently been thinking about platonic yan staff, so like fatherly type stuff for those of you with daddy issues.

Platonic yan Crowley! Wants to be your father figure so bad. Why won't you let him take you under his wing? You'd be his little fledgling! Ah, he must do his best to protect you! He is the headmaster of a prestigious school with unfortunately many arrogant troublesome students. Often he'll dramatically lament, inquiring why you don't wish to spend time with your dear old father? When you reply with a deadpan, "You're not my dad, Crowley." He'll break out into a melodramatic wail, oh woe is him that his own child does not wish to partake in any activities with him! Ah–– a way home, you ask? Well, during one of his many hours long searches in the library to find you a way home, something he adamantly assures you he's been doing, he had the most profound idea which he shall so graciously share with you! Why not stay in Twisted Wonderland and allow him to formally adopt you? Then you shall be his child and he will be sure to provide you with all the love and care you need! Isn't he a genius with such boundless benevolence?

Platonic yan Divus! Probably believes the whole world is out to get you. You poor little thing, far from home, lost and afraid, with no where else to go. Eventually he'll begin to doubt that Crowley is taking proper care of you, and deem his efforts as inadequate. Look at this wretched place, an old dorm filled with cobwebs and ghosts is supposed to be your home? An old oversized uniform and a handful of cheap worn clothes from the shop are all you have to wear? And your classmates, his own students, oh he knows what they're like. A bunch of ruthless mischief making pups! This is unacceptable! Divus will spoil you like his own. He has a soft spot for you, so when he's improving your conditions and getting rid of the old dirtied items, you hold up that feral monster cat and go, "Can I at least keep Grim? Please?" Ah, the puppy eyes. How could he say no to you? But that cat is getting a bath first. Oh, and he's incredibly wary of all the students. In his eyes, none of them are good enough to be your friends, and he's beginning to suspect all of them of trying to take advantage of you. Listen here, darling, you are not to trust any other men besides himself, are we clear?

Platonic yan Vargas! Oh god, not another one. Somehow, he's worse than the other two dads you've acquired. Especially because he thinks your escape attempts are some sort of crazy athletic training regimen. He's come to think of your monthly escape attempts as survival training, so not only is he enjoying himself but he's more than capable of keeping up and capturing you. Then dragging you back to NRC with a proud grin, boasting about how you got so much further than last time! "Let me go! Let go of me!" That's the spirit, he cheers. Seems like you're raring to train again, but now's the time regain your energy for next month! Eagerly tells you stories about his youth, how he was the strongest and most popular! He really wants you to look up to him, and he likes to think he's your favorite dad. Especially when it comes to Crewel, let's say they have differing opinions on how to properly care for you. While his counterpart prefers to pamper you, Vargas believes you need more activity and excitement in your life! Wouldn't you agree with him? Come on, give him a smile now!

Platonic yan Trein! The only real dad on the list. He has two sons that are already full adults now, and he believes you'd get along wonderfully with them. You would be their new younger sibling. "That's kinda... dumb. I'm not their sibling though." You comment, as he responds, it is not foolish to want all three of his children to get along. It's a bit annoying that you can never really get on his nerves, despite him being notoriously strict and a little intimidating with his stoic look. But like most of the dads on this list, he too has a weak spot for you. He still expects you to be a well-behaved though. No matter what you're like, he can handle it. After all, he's been a professor at NRC for so long, that he's seen and taken care of countless students. If you're looking for quiet time, he's probably the best to be with by far. He'll let his feline familiar Lucius sit on your lap as he serves you a platter of cookies with a hot beverage. When you do try to get on his nerves for whatever reason, it never works, so you end up plopping down beside him on the couch in defeat, angrily opening a magazine as he calmly continues to read a book. Now that the opportunity has present itself, he'd like to have a word with you. You should know that you are his pride and joy. That being said, should any of his students be pestering you, inform him immediately and he'll handle it promptly.

Platonic yan Sam! Most likely the best one to be with. It doesn't even feel like he's trying to be your dad, he's more like a cool but still concerning weird uncle. But if you had to classify him as a dad, he'd be the chill one. Although it is scary that he seems to know way more about you than you ever told him about. You suspect it has something to do with his friends on the other side. Whenever you're not with him, you have spied an oddly moving shadow or two... But the upside about that is, he always seems to know what you want. If it's small, he'll offer it for free. If it's a bigger item, he'll let you have it if you work the shop with him for a few hours. What's say you, huh? Sound like a deal? He'll entertain you a trick or two while you're here! Sam likes to call you his little good luck charm, because you tend to bring in more customers and just put him in a good mood. He choses to trust you, more than the other dads, probably because he knows you can't escape because he's always watching you somehow. You go on ahead, just be back by dark, you hear? He wouldn't want to send his friends to force you back home if you stay out late, m'kay?

I may do little rants or rambles every once in a while for different fandoms, but I’ll mainly stay within the Twst fandom for now.

Feel free to make any request, as long as you are basic decent human being when in comes to requests. I mean that in the sense that I won’t answer any request that have homophobic, transphobic, racist, or any discriminatory behavior in it. I will also block someone if they make a request with such behavior.

I also won’t do any requests that are NSFW in nature. Not only would I not know how to write it, most of the characters I’d be writing for are minors and I wouldn’t be comfortable with it.

Quick, what's Father Domek's favourite animal? (I think he's a cat guy but unsure, need others headcanons)

Oh fuck yeah he’s a cat guy. Cat doting dad or how it was called I don’t remember(I saw that phrase in the twst about my man Trein).

Opposite of Caligura he’s a big animal lover because he wants to be loved badly and the easiest ways to get it is to take care of animals lol. He’s absolutely that type who’s in every party will go to the kitchen with lights off and pet home cat or dog or whatever animal there may be.

Also I think he’d love bunnys and rabbits, idk what’s the difference anyway lol. He’s ones find one when he was little and secretly bring it to the home, but dad didn’t like it and made it his first sacrifice training haha.

Just love to think how in team up au(where he, Caligura and Samarie team ups yeah) he’s just casually trying to pet all these animal monsters like headless dogs and even vomit things. He’s good at taming wild animals(because he’s okay with physical discomfort and pain).

Monster AU - Mozus' Backstory

Monster: N/A, Human Word Count: 0.3K Relationships Mentioned: Trein's fiancee, his research team, saboteurs TW: Trein's wife dies and everything they worked for is destroyed Also not really a fic, just the ideas I had for him ---------------------------------------------------

Mozus was a researcher from the human realm and studied anthropology. After some ruins had depictions of monsters and humans working together, he headed up a team of like minded people to go into the Monster Realm and extend an offer to work with any monsters that were interested in researching the topic as well to see if there was a way to allow humans and monsters to live in harmony again. It was through this research project that Mozus met another bright, like-minded individual who also happened to be akin to a giant lizard lady. They quickly grew on each other and had a very friendly sort of light-banter type of relationship teetering on flirty and friendly for a while before they started dating. They spent about 15 years studying together when they finally had a full report ready to publish, including illustrations of the drawings found in the ruins when a group of humans ambushed the field researchers, killing what monsters had been there and burning anything they were able to find. Trein held his lover close and slipped the ring he had finally bought her on her finger as she died in his arms, which is nice to think about but I currently dont have the braincells to develop this the way I want to lmao. Trein decided that humans were too difficult to teach, and ended up applying for permanent residency in the monster realm to act as a history teacher as his now late fiancee had taught him nearly everything he would need to know about the history of monsters as a whole, and he was well versed in human history. His hope is/was that teaching at NRC will allow him to give young minds both perspectives of history so they can build a better future. The only useful thing Crowley has ever done was ensure Trein's safety with his abilities, as Trein was and still is privvy to receiving death threats.

Tiny bit of Monster AU Brainrot-

Malleus calling human Yuu Child of Humans instead of Chile of Men

Human Yuu singing Human by Rag'nBone Man (I have had this idea for way too long)

Human Yuu just minding their business in gym class running laps, and sees Vargas running at them full speed in his monster form for the first time, scaring them so bad that they start haul assing to the woods near the field

Human Yuu starts gushing to Malleus about how cool he is, saying things like, "Your horns are so awesome and beautiful!" and "Your wings look so big! And your tail look so shiny and smooth too! I bet Vil could only dream about having a tail like yours!" (I just wanna shower him with my own endearing praise~)

I’d actually been debating for a while how Malleus would refer to Yuu as the last known human, though “Child of Humans” does sound fitting. /)Ò^Ô I think I'll keep it that way!

As for the song “Human” by Rag’n’Bone Man, I honestly hadn’t heard that song until now and it gives me some interesting ideas on how some monsters may have believed in the past that—according to mythology—most humans were the bad ones and “put the blame on” them for certain things happening the way they did. For the researchers to be looking towards Yuu for answers to things that happened centuries ago, or for those who grew up hating human mythology in general and blaming Yuu for these things…I can imagine it would cause a lot of stress and anxiety even for the calmest and most collected person. Ó^Ò

This could also segway into how the monsters would discover the human penchant to express their emotions in a way that also sends a message, and if someone were to catch wind of Yuu singing this song (or happen to stumble upon it like the Light Music Club did)? Things would likely start taking on a different tone as the monsters realize that Yuu is just as much an innocent who knows nothing of what happened in the past: only that they were alone in the world, and that—like the monsters themselves—humans can make mistakes too.

Of course, being able to share songs that hold a special meaning to Yuu is going to be a magical bonding experience! ÓvÒ/)

Omg, Yuu’s very first day in gym class would have been chaotic 🤣 Let’s see how that first day went down…>3>

“Alright, everyone, line up! You have one minute to stretch before we begin doing laps around the track.”

Yuu felt small compared to the much larger monster students around them, realizing that some towered nearly nine feet tall. ‘I’m going to get trampled,’ they thought nervously. ‘I’m in a strange world, forced to attend school, and I’m literally going to get trampled by giant humanoid monsters doing PE.’

“Hey, Yuu!” a familiar voice called, snapping them out of their thoughts as they turned to see Ace waving them over. “What are you doing in the middle?”

“Huh? I’m…running…I think?” Yuu replied, feeling self-conscious about the multiple sets of eyes now on them. Glancing at the multiple pairs of hooves and claws, they muttered, “And trying not to get trampled over…”

“Don’t worry, you won’t get trampled underfoot,” came Coach Vargas’ response as he appeared in front of them, gesturing with a large claw to the inner track ring. “Smaller students will start out on the inside and will work their way towards the middle with everyone else. Though seeing as you lack any tail or strong legs like the others, this will be a test for me to see how fast and strong you are as a human. Just keep running, and you’ll do fine. And if you fall behind, I’ll help you keep a good pace!”

Nearby Yuu could hear a couple of students snicker and whisper, “Humans must fall flat on their face all the time without a tail. Just look at those weird legs!”

Whether they meant for Yuu to hear them or not wasn’t clear, but before they could think of a retort, they jumped when the coach blew the whistle again. “Stretches are over—get into position!” he bellowed, Yuu immediately scurrying over to join the other smaller students. “On your mark…get set…GO!!”

FWEEEET!!

In an instant, most of the monster students took off, most galloping on all fours while others somehow kept pace on two legs before the rest of the students followed suit. Yuu did okay at first, keeping pace behind a large eared faun with violet hair easily enough. But by the time they came close to finishing the first lap they’d fallen far behind, forced to stick as close to the edge of the track as possible even as a literal stampede of students charged past them.

‘Just keep running,’ they thought, feeling their cheeks burn with embarrassment as the students that mocked them earlier ran past with cackles of amusement. ‘I just gotta keep running…’

Rrrrrrr….

‘Just keep running, just keep running, running, running,’ Yuu chanted in their mind, keeping their eyes on the student in front of them as a pacer as they finished their second lap. ‘What do we do? We run, run, ru-’

“Gah! Not again!” someone yelped, running past them like a scared rabbit. A moment later the student they were following glanced over his shoulder, his eyes growing wide in pure fear and panic as he too ran faster. What was going on…?

“Rrrrrr…rrrAAAWOOOH!”

Hearing the bellowing roar and the shredding of fabric behind them, Yuu’s head whipped around to see Coach Vargas’ frame grow larger, fur covering every inch of his body as his face pushed out to form a distinctly canine-like snout while his arms grew into massive, long clawed paws. They’d wondered what sort of bear-like monster the coach was, but now they realized that—like Professor Crewel and Professor Trein—he was a werebeast…a werebear.

Charging straight FOR THEM!?!?!

“Oh, Sugar Honey Iced Tea!!!!” Yuu screamed, flat out bolting the moment the transformed coach began to charge after them. They couldn’t let him bite them—they didn’t want to be a werebear!! “Shit shit shit shit SHIT!!! AAAAAAAA-!!!!”

Students that had passed by them before now squawked as Yuu passed them, Yuu’s shoes pounding against the compact rubber ground while their heart hammered in their chest. Blood thundering in their ears, they didn’t hear the others calling their name as they bolted off the track, running full speed into the forest. All they could hear was the earth-shaking steps of the massive werebear charging after them, his growls and roars urging them to run faster and faster until—

/Sometime later/

“Can someone please explain to me why the human is stuck in a tree?” Professor Trein asked, Lucius giving a low growl to match his master’s scowl.

“They climbed up the tree on their own! Honestly, I’ve never seen any student run or climb so fast during PE.”

Tilting his head back to look up into the tree, Crowley heaved a tired sigh as he spotted Yuu’s terrified face barely peeking over the large branch they’d wrapped themselves around. They hadn’t moved an inch since he arrived, their eyes locked onto the coach with a ‘thousand-yard stare’ and knuckles turning white. “Did you even warn them of your particular training style?” the headmaster asked, though he had a feeling he knew the answer.

“I told them that if they fell behind, I would help them keep their pace,” came the response. “They’ve exceeded my initial expectations and even surpassed a few of their fellow runners!”

“Yes, yes, I’m sure it was an impressive sight to see, and I admire your dedication to ensuring students get the most out of their exercise. That, however, doesn’t explain how we’re supposed to get what is quite literally the last living fragile human down from the tree before they get hurt.”

“Ah…right. Don’t worry, I’ll get them down! It’s been a while since I last pulled a tree out by the roots. Maybe I can shake them out?”

“Fragile, Ashton! Fragile!” Crewel growled out.

In the end, the staff somehow managed to get Yuu safely down on the ground. It took Crewel’s reassurances that—no—Coach Vargas doesn’t bite the students during his “encouragement runs” and that—no—it is highly unlikely that Yuu would even become a werebeast if they had been bitten by accident. Needless to say, Yuu was given a pass from Vargas running behind them in his werebear form, and he made a bit more of an effort to keep pace with them in his normal humanoid form to encourage them.

Of course, that didn’t necessarily mean that the rest of the students were safe if he caught them falling behind!

Pfft…yeah, it went about as well as you’d expect when being chased by a bear. 😂 At least now they know that they can outrun him, and the other monster students got to witness the magic of human adrenaline in action! 0v0

Malleus interacting with Yuu…I can imagine that—as a dragon monster—he would sympathize with Yuu’s situation as much as Vil in how few both their species were. Perhaps that’s what first drew him to interact with them the first night he realized that Ramshackle was no longer an empty tomb—but rather, a sanctuary to protect something precious.

And precious they were, as with each interaction he had with them, the more he grew fond of Yuu’s strange human ways. Their admiration for him was tempered by pure, innocent curiosity as they speak. Each question they ask, he obliges with an amused smile or allows them a chance to touch his wings and horns. Each praise they sang to him filled him with warmth, freely allowing their hands to glide over the feathers of his wings or brush against the scales of his tail.

His mirth and amusement grew when they began to compare his beauty with Vil’s own, seeing their eyes light up with each new discovery or flicker of power he showed them. He may have grown used to hearing Sebek’s praise, though there was something endearing hearing a fabled human compliment him as though he were the only dragon fae monster in the world…and perhaps he was.

At least in that regard, he would be content to share this companionship with his Child of Humans.

Because I overthink here is a map for the TWST Monster AU

Click read more for a description of each place and who lives there.

The Town of Holyisle: A human town with a monastery run by the abbot, Rollo. The population of the village is fully human and monsters are seen as enemies that should be shunned.

Yuu's Home: Home of the witch, Yuu, and their cat-like imp familiar, Grim. They often make potions for the Riverside Village and the town of Holyisle.

Riverside Village: A farming village that's the home of both monsters and humans. The Lord of the Village is the centaur, Riddle, whose servants include Trey, the minotaur, as his personal cook, Cater, the slime, as his financial advisor, and Che'nya, a catfolk menace who refuses to leave. There are also two newer servants, Deuce, the rabbitfolk, and Ace, the satyr. Another notable figure is the local historian, the human Trein.

Shoreside Reef: A town just off the coast filled fully with merfolk. The head of the village is Azul, an octopus merfolk who also engages heavily with trade on the island and has established a number of businesses on land. His closest confidants are Jade and Floyd, twin eel merfolk who do the dirty work for Azul.

Haunted Cave: A mysterious cave guarded by a small automaton named Ortho who is meant to protect the cave from outsiders, but he mostly just spends time with the resident ghost who is also his brother, Idia.

The City of Pomme: A large city with a population that's mostly monsters. The Lord of the City is the demons, Vil, who is also a popular actor in his theater company. His personal assistant is Rook, a troll and hunter, who was a fan of his performances. The new up and coming star is the fairy Epel who has been taken under Vil's wing. Another popular actor is the angel Neige who is the lead actor in a rival theater company. Another notable figure is the seamster and fasion designer, Crewel.

Duskfall Savanna: A fully monster city with a majority of the population being beastfolk. The lord of the city is Leona, a lionfolk, who doesn't really like his position. His personal servant is the hyenafolk, Ruggie. The gardener for Leona's estate is a wolfolk named Jack. Another notable figure is Vargas, a manticore, who is known for causing chaos from time to time.

Scalding Oasis: A desert city known for its many monster artisans and high quality goods. The Lord of the City is the harpy, Kalim, who is always accompanied by his servant, the naga Jamil. Another notable person is the ghoul, Sam, who runs the most expansive market in the entire oasis.

The Dragon's Domain: A territory ruled by the dragon, Malleus, who lives in his own personal tower. The others who live in his territory include the vampire batfolk, Lilia, the lizardfolk, Sebek, and the centaur, Silver who help care for the territory and act and confidants of Malleus.

Old Ruins: Not much is known about the old ruins other than it acts as a home for a dark feathered harpy.

The Old Cathedral I

Back at it again!

Tbh the confidant 'game mechanics' I cooked up for this Au actually were inspired by the Notre Dame stained glass windows and Bizantine mozaics. So to have a palace that has a tangent with it is wild. :'v

Anyway! How are u? Ready for this train wreck?

Me neither... :'3

Like I will warn... So far... This is the tear jerker palace... Then again, the next one is the 4th palace... >:3c

I still have nothing for the 5th and 7th palace unfortunately... Only an ideea for the 6th. So suggestions in the ask box/comments are very welcomed.

What we will cover:

-Entering the palace

-Malleus bonding time

-figuring out who is the palace ruler

IMPORTANT NOTE: from this point on, we will have "..." as Japanese speaking, while *....* is English speaking...

Now onto the chaos!

The Cathedral itself was imposing, reeking of riches. The closer the group got, the more intricate and detailed the columns and archways became.

And the inside was even more detailed. The first room they got in was a somewhat porch, tall with candles that lit up the place in golden holders. The walls and ceiling had paintings depicting people. At the bottom, on the wall, there were children in rags and a few older people who looked like they were praising the angels on the ceiling who rained with green petals over them. All of the angels holded either documents or a balance made out of gold.

This room seemed useless for now.

Going forward, the group got finally in a gigantic round room. The room was tall, showing arrays of balconies one over another. The ceiling had a gigantic painting of a man who threw around the same green petals which descended on the walls decorated with angels. At this level of the building, there were tall staines glass windows, depicting different persons. Some were taller, some were younger, but all of them were either depicted as beautiful angels or as sinners who were punished by taking forms of monsters/beasts that were killed in horrible ways by a misterious godly force.

Draco explained that his concern lies in the windows. Seeing that the palace ruler must be someone who works at the courthouse, he couldn't help but assume that the people depicted in the windows were victims of such unfair cases. The biggest window was on the opposite side of the room, facing the golden entry doors.

That window was gigantic, stretching up to the ceiling, depicting a faceless angel, with a sword and a balance, thundering down a kraken, making it to fall to the bottom of the sea, amongst dirtied riches. From all of them, Draco was very concerned about this one. Siren did reassure that he didn't pick any signal in their vicinity so they could investigate the said window that stood behind a somewhat altar stage, decorated with gold and candles. In there there was a piedestal meant for something to be read on there.

So far, nothing about the window was concluded, except that it must depict a victim of the palace ruler. One whom they seemed to be very proud of their victory.

So far, the ground floor was oddly quiet. Decorated to the brim and overall safe. Which was wierd.

But as they wanted to conclude this floor as clear, Siren picked up a strange signal. He tried to locate it, but immediately his persona was rejected from accessing more information. Mona demanded that all of them must hide. Thankfully, the place was so decorated that it was easy to hide behind some intricate statue or decorated pillar. That's when the double doors of the room opened.

And through them, a figure walked in. All black, any facial of body details being covered by a loong coat of smoke, trailing on the ground like a bride's trein and veil. One could say that it wasn't even a human. The creature in question looked wary as it went in a straight line towards the stained glass window.

And that's when a bell sound was heard. The creature was alerted by it and immediately filled the whole room with thick black smoke, before dissappearing as shadows took it's place by arriving and attending a praying session.

For now, they couldn't blow up their cover and risk alerting the palace ruler. They had to get out and see what they knew up until now.

Back in the real world, Ace could only describe the experience in one word: disturbing. Whoever was that palace ruler... It needed to be stopped. It didn't matter if it involved them personally or not. No person who thought of a place of justice like that should be let free of charge.

Deuce did say that it made him uneasy as well to know about that palace's existence. Malleus already made his point clear that he was concerned about it, now the others could draw out a few motives on why.

Add to that that black creature. It was by no doubt the same creature that took out of commission the other thieves. If that creature entered the palace, it must mean that is a danger of more of them risking to lose to it's power of locking in personas.

For now, they needed to find possible candidates for who the palace ruler might be. The only clues were that it must be an authoritar figure, one who had close ties with the court house if that place was seen as a cathedral.

So Ortho took on the job of hacking in the files of the courthouse, with a bit of guidance from Futaba, ruling out the most suspicious of them:

A woman who works there as a judge, suspected to have taken part in different illegal activities, yet no evidence was brought up.

A man who is a prosecutor. It was noted that he is unmarried but he attempts to woo female workers.

And another man, which was actually a lawyer. This man was working hand in hand with the man that initially triggered Malleus's awakening.

Speaking of Malleus, he was a bit awkward, but he had the spirit at least. :'3

Since he was homeschooled and his 'Classes' usually are early in the morning followed by a lot of assignments, Malleus THEORETICALLY had the most free time to roam around.

Practically, Malleus was hogging the library. :/

But now he had a mission! So Malleus would be around the courthouse aera. He was lucky there was a small park nearby, using the pretext of reading to overhear people who came in or out of the courthouse. He didn't stay there all day of course.

But he happened to bump into a man. The man was with other adults, talking at a smoke break. Malleus of course apologised, but he got brushed off as just a punk.

And it so happened for Malleus to overhear about a case that ended up 'successful' and about some 'gracious monetary gifts'. From the tone and the adults's laughths. So he decided to spy on them, unfortunately not getting any leads about what the case was about, but noticing how one of the men was getting far more praise than the others.

Luckily, when he returned home, Malleus noticed that his 'father' forgot his lunch. Even if he would rather get rid of it for good, it was his best and only excuse of going to Shujin.

At Shujin tho, Riddle was mostly studying in advance for the exams. Jade was the lucky mf who capitalised on it in order to get tips and a bit of tutoring from Riddle. That's when Malleus passed by and everyone dropped what they were doing.

Most Shujin students were looking at Malleus bc 1. He looks straight out of a fantasy novel. 2. He has a package meant to be delivered to a teacher.

And surprise surprise! Lilia was the one who Malleus delivered the package. The teacher did ask about his studies, Malleus saying that so far, he didn't encounter any difficulty, before Lilia assigned the group of thieves, who were the closest, to guide Malleus out since it was clear he got lost...

On their way tho, Malleus did mention about his encounter at the courthouse. It was very suspicious, especially when it was brought up the allusion to a payment being made under the table. Riddle did say that it must be a group involved. More or so, a complex operation under the table, since there are both judges and prosecutors involved. More or so, an organised crime chain in the courthouse.

Deuce tho, didn't caught on the idea. Ortho explained bluntly that it's basically bribery. For a, usually high, price, the person who is bribed can decide something else that it was not the initial/correct decision, in the favor of the one who offered the bribe.

So the group meet up at Leblanc, filling up Floyd, Morgana and Rook as well. Vil did take the list of possible suspects, using Malleus's description to try and rule out the ones who might be involved in all of this bribery gig.

So far, they still narrowed the list with just a few names.

Cheeka tho, came a bit later for babysitting duty, taking the group by surprise. The child tho, seemed engrossed in a coloring book he brought so the group discreetly discussed about their little problem at hand with the suspects.

But Cheeka finished his page and went to show Ortho, when he saw the photos of the suspects on the boy's laptop. Immediately the child recognised one of them as a friend of his papa. It was a judge, pretty respected for the cases he brought clean. He judged cases that had celebrities, politicians and people of influence. Cheeka said that the nice man gave him candy on the day his papa had a trail because some mean woman accused him of something. It turned out that Cheeka himself was with his papa and uncle at the movies when the victim claimed the assault happened. Unfortunately they tossed the movie tickets after the screening so their evidence was out the window, hence the trial.

Cheeka also said that the nice man had a son at that time. One who spoke a funny language. His name was Epel.

Riddle pipes up at the name and asks Cheeka if the boy in question fit a certain description. When Cheeka did say that indeed it fit the bill, Riddle immediately declared that he had a lead.

So for now, they waited for Leona to come and pick up Cheeka. From homework discussion to playing a board game Ortho stole from his brother, Malleus was ready to destroy Ace's little game piece when Leona came to pick up Cheeka.

Tomorrow, Ortho and Riddle had a day off from babysitting, due to Cheeka needing to visit the Taylor. It wasn't questioned.

But when the Tailor was brought up, Malleus seemed as if he remembered something important. He said that he forgot to check up on his own costume progress.

Vil tho, had to ask what was the theme of the party. Malleus said that it was a masquerade party, as last year was a far more colorful approach. Rook did voice very poetically of all the possibilities.

Everyone knew damn well that Ren will so enjoy himself at such party. :'3

Floyd did ask who is Malleus's partner for the party, but the prince said that it was someone very special to him, although due to personal reasons, he had to keep it confidential. No one asked more about it.

The topic then shifted to the lead Riddle got suddenly. The redhead said that he meet a guy named Epel who checked the bill for the guy Cheeka mentioned. If Epel was related to that judge, he must have far more easier access to the inside whims of things.

Jade did ask how they could contact Epel, to which Riddle explained that Epel was actually related to Azul, a thing that shocked everyone including the twins. Malleus was the only one in the dark about it, Ace explaining it to him so the prince could also gasp in surprise like the others. :v

So now they had to get ahold of Azul.

Which was simple if you count in the 2 menaces of the Amamya/Okumura family. But the next day they will put their plan in action.

First on the list: exploring a bit more the palace. Floyd already scheduled with Azul a meet-up in between buddies. So the group first got to the metaverse to explore the palace, more specifically the first and second floors, where they found a few safe rooms, some thingies to steal and shadows to slay. Those 2 floors were full of paintings depicting different people as saints or sinners getting executed, but nothing about the palace ruler.

One thing it was clear: all those green petals, were actually the interpretation of money. A blessing from the sky.

Although, Siren didn't pick any suspicious reading of that black creature. It was as if it vanished and never came back.

But as they were leaving, Siren picked up a different signal.

"wait!" Siren halted at the entry in the cathedral, summoning his persona. "What is it? It's the palace ruler?" Flame asked. "It's something... Something powerful..." Siren noted as he closed his eyes, allowing the persona to enlighten him.

"It's fast..." "It's big?" "I don't know..." "Where is it headed?" Mona asked. It was a small silence before siren retreated his persona.

"It's coming towards us!" He declared. "Everyone scram!" Rose ordered, the group starting to run.

A loud growl was heard as something flashed by them. "It's the black creature!" Spade cried in surprise as the creature was out running them, stopping a few meters in front of them. "Turn back!" Rose demanded as the creature scratched the ground in their process of turning around and charging at the group.

"KNIGHT! WATCH OUT!"

Thud!

Knight rolled on the ground as Siren pushed him out of the way, the creature grabbing at the navigator's leg. "si-" "RUN! I can make it!" The other groaned. "Hell no! You all go! I can catch up to you all after!" Spade demanded, summoning his persona and using an attack onto the creature.

"knight... Come on..." Draco nudged the other as the 6 of them got out of the metaverse, breathing hardly.

Not long after, Deuce appeared, supporting a dizzy Jade. "Are you alright?!" Floyd immediately rushed to his brother, cupping his face as Jade let out a heavy breath, closing his eyes.

"I am sorry... But I lost the power to summon my persona..."

Silence...

"I was able to use Chariot to escape... And thankfully, we only have a few scratches..." Deuce trailed, letting out a breath of relief.

Now Morgana decided to be their Navi, since Oracle and now Siren were out of commission.

And to add salt on the wound, Azul called Floyd, saying that something came up at his mom's restaurant and he has to help. To at least salvage their Intel gathering, Jade offered for them to come after the restaurant closes.

And that's exactly what they do! Minus ortho who went back to Leblanc. They kept tabs throughout Riddle's phone so Ortho could hear what was discussing around.

Surprisingly, the restaurant was closed today more earlier than on schedule. Azul still had to welcome them in, although he was a bit took aback by the fact that not just the twins were there, but also the rest of the thieves group.

And also Malleus is extremely awkward for some reason.

The restaurant itself was quite high class. It was clear that no ordinary folks came here to eat. Azul did mention that he wasn't expecting such a group, but he was glad he was prepared in case something like this happened.

And of course, Epel was around too. He came to ask Azul about a question for an assignment, which the other told him to skip over it and that they will clear it out after the visit of the others is over. This whole convo happened in English. Unfortunately Ace and Deuce were not the best in that language so for them it sounded like giblerish.

Thanks to Epel coming around, the group was able to immediately touch on the subject of the lavender haired boy. Azul explained that Epel is his step brother, who is trying to adapt to Japan, but because of the whole new language and culture shock, he was homeschooled, Mrs Ashengrotto planning on enrolling him in the 2nd year of highschool. This is why Floyd and Jade never heard of it. Epel came on Shibuya just a few weeks ago. Initially, he was from Texas, America.

So here came a long ass intro time. Azul already knew Rook so he was actually surprised that the twins had ROOK of all people in their circle of buddies. :'3

Slowly, Malleus brought up that he happened to see Epel around the courthouse in the past. Azul goes silent at that tho, changing immediately the subject while also glaring at Malleus.

So he told Epel to go back to their room while he has some 'matters' to discuss with the guests. Epel does puff and protested but Azul is quick to shut down his soon to be tantrum, reaching a compromise.

With Epel out of the picture, it was a sudden shift in moods as Azul told them that he knew what they were looking for and that they shouldn't get associated with such person. This scared a bit the group.

Floyd tho, insists that they need to know because there is something about the courthouse that they had to tend to. Azul does question why the sudden interest.

But immediately Rook asks of his hesitance it's because of the absence of his father. Azul immediately denies it, but Rook points out that his mother is currently dating someone, not being married, which immediately shook Azul as 'how tf did he even know?!'.

Rook pointed out that on the reception desk it was a photo frame in which only Azul, Epel and Mrs Ashengrotto were. There was clearly no sign of another man in there. Along that, on the reception desk it was a calendar on which a date, which wasn't even a special day, was circled as it was very important apparently. It wasn't written anything about a business meeting like the other marked days in there, just a hour. Assuming those were his mother's, it was clear what it implied.

Rook has successfully creeped out the whole gang.

Azul tho, doesn't admit defeat and decided that enough was enough. He cut the meeting short and that was it.

So the group came to a conclusion: Mrs Ashengrotto had a divorce. Epel must've been at the courthouse because of the divorce itself. Azul and Epel had to be stepbrothers with a comune biological father.

Malleus brought up that the window with the kraken had to be in a tie with the divorce. It was the biggest one and in there, the beast was punished by an angel, unlike in the other windows and paintings. Ortho did some digging. And came to the others when they regrouped at the courthouse with his intel.

The divorce case was in between Mrs Ashengrotto and Taka Koizumi, a well respected judge at the courthouse. The case was only covering the child custody, so no money were on the table, Mrs Ashengrotto being the victorious one. Ortho tried to dig more into the man itself, but so far no affairs or rumors about ties with illegality were up.

Still, they had to give it a shot. Vil, Rook and Jade took a guard around in case something comes up, while Deuce was the one who introduced the name into the metanav along the courthouse.

And it got a hit!

"it's a hit!" Ace mused. "Well... There is only one criteria we can put to confirm it..." Malleus noted. "I really don't like that place... I hope we can finish it fast..." Deuce grumbled. "so far... Everything works in our favor... There is no way that guy can even know we are onto him." Ortho reasoned. Taking a deep breath, the bluenette brought the device close to his face.

"Cathedral..."

....

"Beginning navigation" the robotic voice answered as the world started to wrap around the group.

*AYO WAIT!*

THUD!

Ortho found himself being tackled by someone, his lungs squeezed out of air as he was slammed to the ground and squished by the weight of the person. Groaning, Flame rose up, only to throw off him accidentally the said person. Gasps filled the air as the other thieves seemed absolutely speechless.

Looking to his side, Flame jolted up in surprise. "Oh damn!" He gasped as well. "this will be a problem..." Heart groaned. "Perhaps we should return him back?" Draco suggested. "He seems a bit dizzy... Perhaps we co-" Rose trailed.

*what in tarnation is goin o-* Epel groaned as he immediately jumped in surprise at the sight of the group. *Is this some early as fuck Halloween party yer having?!* he asked. "Eyo... I finally understand the guy..." Heart pointed out. "the cognitive world must've broken the language barrier as well..." Mona mused as he got closer to the boy.

CRASH!

*WHAT WAS THAT?!* "Holy! The guppy has a kick!" *BITCH ANSWE ME!*

THUD!

Epel immediately fell down as Spade knocked him out. Seeing the stares he received, the thief awkwardly gesticulated. "I panicked!?! Alright?!" He stammered.

"Woa! What is this place? Oh hello!" another foreign voice. Turning around the group was horrified to see a boy with red eyes and white hair, smiling at them widely.

"This couldn't get any worse..." Rose palmfaced.

The new guy thought he made a wrong turn and stumbled upon a costume party so he apologised for walking on them and asked for directions around. He mentioned he doesn't speak very well Japanese so he might do mistakes from time to time. Bless this innocent boy... U-U

Surprisingly, this one was very calm when it was explained that 'this is a world inside a rotten man's heart and we might die in here if we aren't careful.'.

So now they had one happy guy named Kalim after them and one knocked out Epel which Draco was currently carrying. :'D

But! Epel wakes up and again makes a tantrum, but gets shut up and finally explained to him the whole ordeal. The group didn't actually tell him who's actually the palace owner because they were pretty sure Epel wasn't in the right head space and could end up with him throwing hands.

Cue Kalim being friendly with Epel who initially came after them bc he knew they were suspicious. He may not know too much Japanese, but he sure as hell picked up a few things from their discussion with Azul (on which he eavesdropped).

This time as to not risk too much, the group decided to pretend that they didn't uncover the 2nd floor, but had to explore the 3rd floor as to not seem entirely suspicious.

But, at the 3rd floor, surprisingly there were a few quite strong shadows. Which had the group in need of a roundabout.

But to their dismay, it seemed like they hit the wrong time as shadows were gathering around, most likely to attend to a ceremony.

And more unfortunately, they bumped into a priest shadow, which of course it was far more stronger than the others.

"You shall not disturb the holy ceremony! In the name of Taka Koizumi I shall punish you!" The shadow roared.

"Taka... Koizumi..." Epel whispered. "I say we retreat..." Mona mused. "I have a smoke bomb on me... We can use that..." Spade offered. "Leader... What is your call?" Heart demanded as he and Knight were on defense.

"Taka.... Koizumi..." Epel said more loudly, stepping forward. "Eyo! Get back!" Knight called, which had Draco react and reach for the lavender boy.

SLAP!

Epel slapped the other's hands, gaze fixed on the shadow in question. "You sinner shall be punished!" The shadow roared as it lunged with it's weapon towards Epel.

Your rage is understandable...

THUD! FWOSH!

A gush of wind blowed up as Epel caught with his bare hand the weapon's blade. On the frail boy's face, a mask was forming with a small blue flame. "SISTERS! BROTHERS!" the shadow cried loudly as around the group appeared more shadows, ready to attack the group. "we are sorrounded!" Mona said. "Thanks for stating the obvious..." Heart took a fighting stance.

Why not give in the temptation... Bite the apple... And sign the contract that will bind us to freedom...

"YA FUCKER WILL PAY! COME TO ME!" Epel screamed as with his bloody hand he grabbed onto the mask, gasping as he pulled on it, his flesh ripping as he screamed and panted in pain.

I am thou... Thou art I... Drive for freedom and the sweet revenge...

The flames licked at Epel's body as he screamed, wind and flames raising in walls that fell down like petals of flowers.

"That's a persona?!" Flame gasped. "That's a limousines..." Draco corrected as the said long dark purple car had the engine roaring, opening it's front like a mouth with rows of gigantic bottom teeth as from there, an array of guns popped out. "limousine?! That's a fancy war tank!" Heart backed away.

Epel tho, only smiled manically as he adjusted his gloved hands onto the steering wheel. "Taste bullets, bitch!" He demanded as only the sound of bullets being shot was heard.

In the end, once the last bullet was fired, the priest shadow had gigantic holes in it's body as it fell with a soft thud to the ground before evaporating.

Silence...

Skillfully turning around the wheel with one hand, the persona made a donut turn, opening it's door and Widening it as it got in one go the whole group before it ran over a weak shadow, driving around the halls, the engine roaring with purplish flames.

"Eyo... Epel... Question..." Flame piped in. "Wut?" the lavender haired boy breathed awkwardly.

"Do you know how to drive?" "no..."

It was safe to say that they made a hole in the wall of the palace before they got thrown back into the real world, ending up in a pile on the ground.

Kalim said that it was really fun, but now he had to go. He recognised Malleus from the few parties they attended together. Malleus convinced Kalim to keep the whole ordeal a secret and also get his contact info to keep in touch.

Meanwhile Epel tried to pull the puppy eyes card out of this mess. He didn't succeed. :'3

Cue Jade threathing to call Azul and tell him Epel snuck out. Joke's on him, Epel used the 'mom told me to get x from the store' so it won't work.

So they take Epel to Leblanc to Leblanc to finally explain everything with all the details.

Epel also confessed about why he despised that man, his father. He was a money hungry person. His biological mother was his 'wife' before she died after Epel's birth. He was just a baby when his father left America to go to his home country, Japan, returning years after with a new wife and Azul, who clearly was older than Epel, although he was biologically the same man's son. Mrs Ashengrotto was furious when she found out the whole story but still she made an effort to bond with Epel, taking a lot of effort and money she could have used for literally anything else, just to help Epel move to Japan and adapt in there as now she won custody over him in court.

And don't get him wrong, Epel was grateful and grew to love and appreciate how both Azul and Mrs Ashengrotto tried their best to make him feel apart of the family. Sure he visited his grandma and relatives back in Texas on holidays and kept in touch with them, but now things were still a bit awkward in the family.

Unfortunately he has the blood of that bastard, which is why Epel despised him so much. He ruined his life completely and now a woman who had no obligation to raise him and fill up the absence of a mother, worked hard to make for it anyway. All because that man saw that he couldn't get anymore money out of them.

Epel also made it clear that he didn't want pity. If anything, pity would absolutely enrage him.

Riddle gave him the next offer: help them steal the rotten desires of that man. They will work as a team, but in the end, Epel will have his revenge by making that man confess with his own mouth. Epel immediately agrees to it with no second thought.

The next day tho, Kalim comes by leblanc, clearly shaken up by something. His personal assistant, Jamil was with him, but Kalim wanted to talk with Riddle in private.

He didn't give much detail(bc Jamil was there), but he only said that now they had a deadline.

AND BAM! WE HAVE A DEADLINE!

And also sum angst... :'3

And we get introduced to Kalim! :D

Welp... I don't have really a lot to say... So imma leave you to try and guess what will happen next. And who might be our next Boi joining our group. :3c
