Title: Just Try It (Vaughn ft. the Mercy Park Crew)
A/N: A forgotten fic found in the depths of my drafts- originally this was supposed to be for ROD week, but I never ended up posting it. Until now lol
I have not seen a lot of Vaughn content since joining Tumblr. Maybe I’m not looking hard enough, or maybe this is the start of giving this side character the major love he deserves. Side characters create the perfect opportunity for crack!fics- and damn it, I want to create a crack!fic. Think of this as: if Ride or Die had a filler episode.
Rating: PG/PG-13 (Swearing)
Pairing(s): Colt x MC (implied)
Summary: Inspired by this article. Vaughn is in a culinary rut and needs to reignite his imagination. So, he calls up his favorite band of criminals to help him.
---
“Vaughn, you in there man? Are you hurt?” Logan frantically scanned his place for any signs of a break in. No broken windows- a good sign. He jiggled the doorknob. Locked. The eerie silence didn’t do any favors for his anxiety. He glanced down at the text that had him bolting out of the shop to his cousin’s apartment.
Vaughn: HELP- need you here ASAP.
“Wait a minute,” Logan yanked his wrist free, “you’re not being murdered?!”
His head snapped up at the sound of the door opening. “Thank God, you’re here!” Vaughn pulled him inside and shut the door. “We have a shit load to do. Sooner we start, the better.” Logan was dragged into the kitchen where he saw piles of grocery bags filling up all the counter space. Annoyed, he gave his very unharmed cousin a glare.
“Why would you think I was being murdered?” He shoved his phone in Vaughn's face. He squinted as he read the small text on the screen. “That message was accurate. I regret none of those words.”
“Vaughn, there’s an entire gang out currently hunting my ass down. The hell was I supposed to think?”
“Look, I’m sorry. But I’m fine, see?“ He twisted his harms, "No stab wounds, I can walk, and I still look incredible.” Logan’s lip twitched upwards, the worry fading away from his body.
“You’re a six at best,” he teased, chuckling at his cousin gasping in mock-offense. “So, what’s with all the food?” He got a better look of his kitchen island. Pickles, blueberries, sesame seeds. “And what the hell are you trying to make?”
“I’m in a rut man,” Vaughn sighed, ignoring his question. “I haven’t come up with any new dishes for the truck in weeks and customers are starting to notice.”
“Is it really that bad?”
“Yes it’s really that bad,” he echoed, “now call up the rest of the dream team. We’ve got work to do.”
---
One quick text to the group chat later, the rest of the crew arrived and were sat in front of a table full of questionable looking dishes
“Why did I come here?” Colt groaned, wishing he hadn’t followed Ellie.
Mona poked at a bowl of ice cream topped with diced pickles. “Full offense, V, I think these combos are going to put you out of business.”
“We came because Vaughn needs our help,” she squeezed his hand underneath the table, partly to lift his spirits, mostly to make sure he didn’t run out the door.
“You haven’t even tried anything yet,” he whined, setting down another one of his creations on the table, “look at Toby. Now that looks like a satisfied customer.” The group whirled their heads around to see him scarfing down a steak smothered in blueberry jam.
“Wha-?” he asked, mouth full of food, “’s free.”
Colt rolled his eyes, stabbing his fork into a green apple slice smothered in salsa. He took a deep breath before shoving the fork in his mouth. “How is it?” Ellie peered into her boyfriend’s eyes, trying to gauge his reaction. Wordlessly, he placed his fork to her lips for her to taste as well. She took a small bite, chewing slowly before swallowing. “Too much apple, not enough salsa.”
“That’s what I thought,” Colt hummed, pushing the bowl back towards Vaughn. “You gotta dice the apple, man.”
“It’s awful, but I can’t stop eating it.” His face contorted in disgust as he bit into another fry. “ My brain keeps gaslighting itself into thinking my experience is going to change.”
“Dice the apple, got it,” Vaughn wrote down his feedback in his notepad. “Logan, how’re the honey chili fries with pickles?”
“Yeah, you can pair it with this salad that’s bringing up my repressed childhood trauma,” Mona deadpanned.
“Fries-induced Stockholm syndrome,” he scribbled another note down. “That could be a fun special, right?”
---
Over the next few hours, the crew reluctantly filled their stomachs with Vaughn’s experiments, each one stranger than the last. After the last dish, they all sprawled out in the living room.
“I’m definitely going to poop weird later,” Toby blurted out, breaking the silence.
“Dude, shut up,” Logan groaned. He was lying flat on his back, trying to ignore the growing pain in his abdomen.
“If I have to try another pickle-infused dish, I’m going to kill the next thing that moves,” Colt threatened.
“I’ll help you,” Ellie grumbled, her cheery disposition replaced with utter regret after the fifth pickle-forward recipe. “Why don’t people just sell pickles by themselves? You don’t need to do anything special to them,” her rant was muffled into Colt’s shoulder. He attempted to soothe her by kissing her temple while lightly stroking her back. The gesture seemed to work, as he felt her shoulders relax into him.
“Could you two be less nauseating? I’m trying not to hack up that salad,” Mona glared at the touchy couple across from her. With his free hand, Colt flipped her off, the grip on his girlfriend slightly tightening in defiance. She responded by flipping him off with both her hands.
“I know y’all are hurting right now, but I really appreciate the help,” Vaughn said earnestly. Despite the twinge of guilt that he felt at seeing his friends suffer, he was certain that all those taste tests would help him keep his food truck afloat.
“No worries, man. Glad we could help,” Logan said with a strained voice, a new wave of pain hitting his stomach.
“Speak for yourself, pretty boy,” Colt scoffed. He turned his head towards Vaughn, “I’m serious about killing you if you shove another plate in my face.”
“Noted,” he rubbed the back of his neck. “Well, feel free to crash here until you feel better.” The crew members mumbled a bunch of nonsense, which Vaughn took as an okay.

Reunion
Book: Ride-or-Die (2)
Pairing: Mona x MC (Ellie Wheeler)
Genre: ANGST (and just some general fluff)
Rating: PG13, Mona has a colourful vocabulary
Word Count: 3,930
A/N: So since we now know what was supposed to happen in Book 2, I HAD to write Mona reuniting with MC again for the first time in 5 years. The idea of them seeing each other after so long, the tension, mhmm! Since I'm working with the bare bones, I'm only guessing how most of the plot was suppose to go down. So if there's any plot holes in my own story, just ignore it :3
I never thought I'd be posting a fic again. And yet, here I am, years later writing for Mona cuz we were ROBBED of Book 2. I feel like I've come full circle cuz my very first fic was for Mona and I'm pretty sure this is gonna be my last. At least for a while. The last fic I posted was the last time I think I properly wrote anything so forgive me if I'm rusty, but anything for my baby Mona <3 Lmk whatcha think of this fic!
Ellie stared unblinkingly at the still face looking back at her from the screen. Her jaw clenched as her mind raced. Five years, it's been five years since she had seen her, five years since she's heard anything about her and there she was. And tomorrow, if everything goes to plan, she'll be right in front of Ellie. She'll actually be there, with her in the same physical space and not the one she had shared with her in her mind over the past half decade.
Just the thought alone was enough to make Ellie want to throw up, either from excitement or nervousness or both, she wasn't sure. All she knew was that she had been imagining this moment constantly ever since she last saw her. Ellie always thought about what she would say, what she would do, but she could never quite figure out what that would be. And for the longest time, she thought it wouldn't matter. She thought she would never see her again.
Until now, that is.
Ellie inhaled deeply and let out a shaky breath, trying to get her thoughts in order. But she never seemed to be able to whenever she looked into those sly brown eyes and at that infuriating smirk on that gorgeous face. It was no different now, apparently.
She slammed her laptop shut. She'll worry about it when she's there.
~.~
Ellie was hyperaware of everything around her. The heat emanating from her coffee into her palms, the espresso machine whirring, the music in the background, the grains of the wooden table.
Suddenly, she heard the shop doorbell ring and her heart fell to her stomach.
She just knew.
Ellie didn't turn to look, she just couldn't bear the weight of it. Instead, she heard, she felt.
She heard the familiar footsteps of boots walking towards her that awoke distant memories. She felt her eyes shut on its own accord. She heard a soft sound of curiosity coming from where the footsteps had stopped. She felt her heart drumming so hard in her chest, she could hear it in her ears. She felt a presence looming over her. She heard a hand slap against the metal backing of the chair across from her.
And then nothing.
Ellie slowly opened her eyes and gulped. When did her throat get so dry?
The first thing she saw was a perfectly manicured hand gripping the chair in front of her that lead up to a familiar fully tattooed arm. She forced her gaze upwards, finding it exceedingly difficult, feeling as if she was fighting against an invisible force, as if the more she dare to look up, the more her own eyes were denying her.
She took in the other hand resting against the waistband of dark pants. She noticed a black tank top covered by a black leather jacket and the way the necklaces worn rested against it. Her breath hitched and her heart stopped when her gaze finally met the one of the woman she had been dreaming of for 5 years now.
And goddamn, was she just as stunning as Ellie had remembered, even more so maybe.
"Mona," she softly breath out as if she was hoping it was true. The name sounded foreign yet familiar against her lips. Oh, how she had missed saying that name.
There Mona was, a hand on her hip and the other propping herself up by the chair, a brow raised and the corner of her lips quirked upwards, as if fighting a smile back. Her pretty brown eyes gazed down deeply into Ellie's and Ellie felt as if she was losing an unspoken uphill battle.
"Well, well, well," Mona whispered and Ellie nearly laughed in relief at being able to listen to her voice again. It was surreal. "If it isn't Ellie fucking Wheeler. Hello, princess."
~.~
The entire situation was so overwhelming for Ellie, she didn't know what to do with herself. She was between a constant push and pull state of fidgety and paralyzed. It was like a dream and a nightmare come true and Ellie wasn't even sure if she wanted to be woken up if it was one.
But it wasn't, and Ellie still wasn't sure what she'd say or do now that she was face to face with the woman that had been haunting her thoughts since she met her.
Ellie took in Mona who was now sitting opposite her. She was leaned back with her arms crossed and her lips pursed. Everything about her posture would suggest to Ellie that Mona was being standoffish. The only thing that was making her second guess herself were those damn eyes. Mona made no effort to hide the fact that her eyes were blatantly flickering up and down Ellie's form. They finally settled back on Ellie's and she swore she saw Mona's gaze soften just the tiniest bit. Ellie had no clue if she was assessing her as well or checking her out.
Despite her many psychology classes on body language and facial expressions, she still couldn't read Mona. She never had been able to. It was something that Ellie had appreciated every now and then, she liked that Mona kept her on her toes. But now wasn't one of those times.
"I didn't think you'd come," Ellie blurted out and finally broke the silence, not being able to stand the way Mona was looking at her anymore.
Mona cocked an eyebrow at her and shrugged a little. "It's not everyday I get a letter from a girl I took a bullet for 5 years ago. Had to see for myself." Ellie had no idea how to respond but she didn't need to because almost immediately after, Mona leaned in forward and glowered at her. "How did you find me?"
Mona was so near, Ellie could smell her perfume and she'd be lying if she said it didn't make her a bit heady. Ellie leaned back into her chair, feeling the need to put some space between the two of them. She saw the corners of Mona's lips twitch in a flash as she did.
Unlike Ellie, Mona always could've read Ellie very much easily, probably even a bit too easily.
Ellie shut her eyes tight, trying to think of an easy, gentle way to break the news to Mona. There was no easy, gentle way.
"Look, Mona," she sighed and looked up at her. "I was hoping to warm you up a little before I jump into it but since you asked...," Ellie drifted off and paused for a moment to try and figure out the best way to phrase her next sentence. "I'm working with the FBI and I need your help."
Just as Ellie had predicted, Mona was mad. Her hands gripped the armrests of her chair and leaned in even closer to Ellie, her eyes wide in disbelief.
"What the fuck, Ellie?!" Mona whispered angrily, her voice low. "If you're working with the cops, then you know that I fucking broke out of prison, right? You're basically leading them back to me!"
"Mona, listen," Ellie leaned forward and placed a hand on Mona's, not knowing how else to reassure her. It was a mistake, Ellie's breath hitched being so close to her. Both their eyes flickered down at their hands before meeting each other's again. Mona jaw unclenched just the slightest bit and didn't pull away so Ellie continued. "They agreed to clear your remaining offenses and even your criminal record if you cooperate with them."
Mona finally pulled her hand away and she folded her arms again, leaning back into her seat. Ellie leaned back as well, thankful for a way out. She knew she was on the verge of doing something stupid.
Mona considered what Ellie had told her. "What makes you think I want that? If you're working for the pigs you'd know that I'm still involved."
"I'm working with them, not for them," Ellie corrected. "And from what rumors I heard, your current situation is more of a necessity than a want, it's transactional."
Ellie looked at Mona expectantly. If she was honest, she was hoping Mona would fill in the gaps for her because that was all she knew. She hadn't gotten any details. Instead, Mona asked, "Why are you working with them, anyway?"
"There's a heist crew that Logan was in that obtained list of important informants and the FBI thinks I can help 'cuz I have ties with him."
"And where do I fit into this?" Mona questioned, unamused.
"Your current... involvement... appears to have connections to them, so we need your help to gather intel," Ellie put it plainly, no point sugarcoating it and wrapping it up in a pretty bow, especially since she knew Mona would appreciate the directness more.
"Hm," Mona squinted at Ellie and Ellie tried her best to maintain composure which was proving to be very hard in Mona's presence. "Very bold of you to assume I'd risk my neck by going behind the backs of one of the most dangerous crime families just to helps out a bunch of cops. Very stupid, but very bold too. I'm not sure if I'm impressed or disappointed."
Ellie couldn't help but grin. It was the most Mona-like thing she had said and just for a little while, it felt like old times. She decided to push her luck a little further. "Can you... is it okay if you explain to me why you're with them?"
Mona glared at Ellie and then let out a huff, running her fingers through her hair, clearly frustrated. Ellie just watched in silence, unsure what to make of it.
"After all this time and you still can make me want to talk, it's embarrassing," she mumbled and Ellie had to strain to listen to her. Ellie felt her heartbeat start to pick up again at Mona's words. "I'll make it quick. Escaped prison, cops chased, crime family protect, work for them, safe from cops." She gestured with her hand lazily, explaining with complete disinterest as if she's told this story a million times which was ironic since this was probably the first time she told this to anyone.
"Well, think about it this way," Ellie had offered in response after taking some time to ponder. "If you help the FBI, you'll help bust them and clear your offenses, which means you'll be free, Mona."
Ellie could practically see the gears turning in Mona's head, or more like, she could practically see her weighing out the pros and cons on a scale. Mona's eyes flitted from staring at her table up to meet Ellie's and Ellie forced herself not too look away, daring to challenge Mona to accept her offer.
Mona sighed and unfolded her arms to gesture with her hands. "It's a very tempting offer, believe me."
"But?"
"But there's a reason they're the biggest crime family," Mona said in a hushed yet hurried tone. "If they haven't gotten caught for this long, I doubt me throwing a wrench in their plans and schemes would do jackshit!"
Mona was frustrated, but Ellie could tell it was more so about her situation than at Ellie which kept Ellie at least a little calm for now.
"Not to mention, law enforcement fucking sucks, I don't exactly trust them to catch every single member."
Mona's eyebrows furrowed and her lips were set in a displeased line, the wrinkles at the corners of her mouth prominent with her scowling. Ellie found herself missing it.
"I know, I know you're not their biggest fan and I know what I'm asking of you-"
"NO!" Mona slammed her palm against the table, not loud enough to attract unwanted attention but that didn't stop Ellie from jumping in her seat at her sudden outburst. "I don't think you realise exactly what you're asking me to do, princess," she spat out the nickname venomously and Ellie fought hard not to flinch.
"Mona-"
"Listen, I took a bullet for you, I went to fucking prison for you. You get in touch with me again after all this years only to ask me to die for you." Mona paused and closed her eyes, exhaling slowly. Ellie watched in silence for a moment, her heart beating a mile a minute in realisation.
"You're right, I didn't think of it like that, I'm sorry." Mona snorted but Ellie continued. "But that's not the only reason I wanted to get in touch with you, I promise."
Mona opened her eyes and looked at Ellie. Ellie could sense she was trying to read her expression, decide if she was being sincere. She was.
It was quiet for a moment.
Mona crossed her legs at the knees and leaned forward. Ellie could see the anger in her expression dissipate into subtle smugness. Mona whispered, "What's the other reason then?"
There it was. Ellie knew Mona knew just from the slight pull of her upper lip and the way she was gazing at her with such intent. Over the past 5 years, Ellie had so much she wanted to say to Mona. Far too much to condense into a one sentence answer, but she tried anyway by saying, "I missed you, Mona."
"After all this time, and you still haven't learnt to save yourself." Mona let out a short, soft chuckle and shook her head. She stood up and tugged at the collars of her jacket, fixing it before shoving her hands in her pockets and turning around.
"Where are you going?" Ellie stood up in alarm, dumbfounded by Mona's actions.
Mona turned to face Ellie again, shrugging slightly. "I have to go, I came here on borrowed time."
"Will you consider it? At least?" Ellie was pleading at this point, but mostly because she knew if Mona said no, this would be the last time she saw her. She was very desperate for it to not be.
"I'll find you," Mona said and started to walk away again.
Ellie sighed softly, relieved that she's got Mona's word that she'll at least hear from her. But Ellie couldn't help herself, she had to ask, she had to know.
"Did you miss me?"
Mona stopped and and turned her head to the side to quickly glance at Ellie at the corner of her eye over her shoulder. She faced head on again and exhaled, as if the question itself exhausted her.
"I haven't learnt either. If I did, I wouldn't be here."
Mona walked away and left Ellie standing there speechless, mind and heart racing.
~~TIME CUT~~
Ellie looked around cautiously as she walked down the dingy back alley. Only a singular, dim streetlamp illuminated the street. Every small sound or movement caused Ellie to whip her head around in it's direction.
Leave it to Mona to pick the most unsavoury, suspicious place at the darkest hour of the night to want to meet up.
All of a sudden, she spotted a car headed in her direction. The headlights so bright, it temporarily blinded Ellie. She would've ran if she didn't catch a glimpse of the familiar purple of the car in the midst of being rendered sightless.
The car stopped right beside her and the door popped open to reveal Mona looking expectedly at her.
"Well, c'mon, get in."
"Mona! You still have your car?"
She rolled her eyes. "Questions later, get in now."
Ellie silently obeyed. As soon as she slammed the door shut, Mona sped off, leaving Ellie clumsily grabbling for her seatbelt. She managed to click it into place before turning to Mona who had a smirk on her face.
Mona looked at ease as always behind the wheel. Leaned back in her seat with one hand on the steering and the other on the shift stick, Mona was definitely in her element. And definitely looked hotter driving than Ellie remembered.
"Not used to the speed anymore, princess?"
"It's been a while," Ellie reminded and looked out the passenger's window, watching the buildings whip past them. "Some things never change though."
Mona drove in silence, not even humming along to the hip-hop music she had playing on the radio. Ellie cleared her throat and decided to speak up. "So, are you accepting the offer?"
"We'll talk later." Mona looked at Ellie briefly before averting her eyes back on the road.
Ellie looked around outside, roughly recognising their surroundings but not exactly being able to place her finger on it.
"Mona, where are we going?"
"You don't remember?" Mona quirked an eyebrow at her as they pull into an open area where a bunch of cars were parked. A video was projected onto a huge display screen right at the front. Ellie's eyes lit up in realisation.
"The drive-in theatre! The one we came to with Mercy Park Crew!"
"The one and only," Mona confirmed as she put her car into park and pulled the hand break up. "Literally."
She pulled the lever of her chair and leaned so far back, she was almost laying down. She raised both hands behind her head and stared at the projection in front of them.
Bewildered at Mona, Ellie's brows furrowed in confusion as she looked at her. "What are you doing? What are we doing?"
"We're watching a movie, duh," Mona replied as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Mona was being difficult, Ellie had enough experience with her to at least know that. And lucky for her, she also had enough experience to know how to annoy Mona into talking.
Mustering up the most gushy and enthusiastic voice she could, she said, "Aww, Monaaaa!" Ellie grabbed Mona's knee and Mona looked at her, with both brows raised, clearly confused and maybe even looking a little weirded out by her sudden change in tone. "If you wanted to take me on a date you could've just said so!"
"Pft! A date?" Mona sputtered, taken aback. "You wish, princess."
"What is it then? Are you feeling sentimental?" Ellie cooed and Mona lightly slapped her hand away, the one that was on her knee.
"Hah! Definitely not."
"It's okay if you are, it's actually so cute of you."
Mona gasped and sat up straight as if it was the most offensive thing to mankind.
"I am not cute," she glared at Ellie and Ellie fought hard to hide her bubbling laughter.
"Then what is it?"
"Fine!" Mona threw her hands up in defeat. "I just wanted to relax before we got down to business but since this is so much more stressful let's just talk now." Mona leaned back against her seat and motioned Ellie to copy her seat position.
Ellie smiled to herself as she adjusted her seat lever. "Why are we leaning back?"
"'Cuz it's less suspicious. Also it's more comfortable."
"So," Ellie turned to face Mona. "Why are we here?"
"Because, we needed a private place to talk in public at 9 p.m. and this was what I thought of. They have eyes and ears everywhere, this is the safest bet." Mona looked at Ellie. "I need to know the exact terms of this agreement before I give my answer."
"Yes, yes, of course," Ellie replied eagerly, hopefully that Mona was considering the offer.
"I will be exempted for all my crimes, correct?"
"Yes."
"And my record will be a clean slate?"
Ellie nodded.
"The leak must be anonymous, the gang won't know the mole was me. And I don't want the FBI to be tailing my every move either."
"Okay, that can be done."
"While working with them, I want the FBI's word that I'm under their protection and I get full immunity. I know it'll get messy. I need all of it in writing."
Ellie saw a flicker of emotions pass Mona's face. They both knew how dangerous this proposition was for Mona. Ellie gentle placed her hand on Mona's thigh and Mona stiffen at the soft contact, not daring to even look at it.
"I'll be with you the whole way, Mona. I promise, I-"
"Don't," Mona interrupted, sounding pained almost. "How many times must I tell you. We don't do promises, we don't do loyalty. It's each man for themselves, if you need to run, you run."
Ellie was quiet, letting out a shaky breath and squeezing Mona's thigh. Mona finally looked down at the contact and winced as if she was hurt, as if she could tell what Ellie was going to say next.
"And yet, you're still here."
Mona stared deep into Ellie's eyes, her gaze so intense it was hypnotising.
"I'll do it," Mona said softly. "I'm in."
Relief washed over her. Ellie smiled a little a nodded. As she did, a strand of hair came loose and fell in her face. As if on reflex, Mona's hand came up to brush the hair away, tucking it behind Ellie's ear. The gentle touch of Mona's fingers against her face made her sigh in contentment. Ellie had missed Mona's touch so much, she thought she could cry. It felt like an oasis after years of being parched.
Ellie thought Mona would pull her hand away, but she didn't. Instead, she let it rest on Ellie's cheek. Mona's warm hand cupped Ellie's cheek and Ellie leaned into it. She closed her eyes, reveling in the comfort and familiarity of it after 5 years. She moved her hand that was resting on Mona's thigh up her wrist, holding Mona's hand there, afraid Mona will move, afraid of missing the contact. But she didn't move. Instead, she whispered her name.
"Ellie."
Ellie's name coming out of Mona's mouth sounded so intimate, so precious. Ellie opened her eyes and her heart skipped a beat when she saw Mona staring back at her. She had never seen Mona look at her like that before. She looked soft, conflicted, as if she was fighting back. Ellie's lips parted and she noticed Mona's gaze look down at her mouth.
"Mona."
Ellie breathe her name out slowly, a praise, a hope, a gift. Silently wishing Mona would do what she'd been dreaming of for the past half decade. She was so close to getting what she wanted- no, what she needed. The touch, the gaze, the shallow breathes, it was all too much to handle. Ellie was ready to burst out of her skin, it was all too overwhelming.
"Fuck," Mona cursed, her resolve crumbling. She leaned into Ellie while pulling her closer as well. Their lips met halfway in a gasp and Ellie arms immediately wrapped around Mona's neck, her fingers playing with the baby hair on the nape of her neck. Mona moved her free arm around Ellie's waist and securely held her close.
Ellie could help but whimper at how good it felt to be in Mona's arms again, to be kissing her and holding her and savouring her. She had waited years to be able to do this again and it was beyond what she had hoped. She had forgotten how good Mona felt, she almost laughed at how she ever wondered why no one else could make her feel even a fraction of what Mona did. How could they when Mona made her feel like this.
Their lips moved in tandem and their grips on each other tightened. Even though Ellie had been waiting for so long for this, it was hard to believe any time had even passed between them with how in sync they were with each other.
Mona moaned softly into Ellie's mouth when she grabbed Mona's hair in her fist. Mona reluctantly pulled away and rested her forehead against Ellie's. Their hold on each other never ceasing as they tried to catch their breath.
Ellie felt delirious, she thought she would ascend at any moment. Mona softly brushed her thumb against her cheek. Ellie hummed softly at the touch and turned just the slightest bit to kiss the palm of Mona's hand. Mona sighed.
"I can't believe I'm still here."

Patiently waiting to see if any fic writers are inspired to write Mona x MC fics now that ride or die 2’s plot is out 👀
I wish the writers were able to be more descriptive cuz I’m curious to see the crew’s reaction to MC tracking them down. Like are they upset she’s involved in this stuff again or are they happy to see her? I wanna read their reunions so bad ;-; and how their relationships develop after how things ended in book 1

Strangers (Mona x MC) NSFW
Warnings: 18+/NSFW
Notes: YOOOOO I am so sorry this got posted late. Unexpectedly was gone all day, BUT it’s still the 7th in California so technically I didn’t completely miss it lol. @choicesarehard messaged me about ROD Appreciation Week and I missed writing this salty bitch, so of course I jumped on it. I also apparently can’t write her without it being pure smut, but who cares? Enjoy, and please comment/like/reblog!

Mona sat at her local bar, sipping on a double whiskey (neat, of course) as her eyes roamed the room. Her gaze landed on a young couple at the bar, pressed against each other and touching at every opportunity. Amateurs. A month into dating; maybe two, with her calculations. Boring.
She continued sipping her drink, the tension building slowly. She had a one track mind, and she was eager to get the night started just as she intended. Her eyes flickered to a young woman a few seats down, probably mid-twenties, who was already staring intently. Mona appraised her: shoulder length lilac hair, green eyes, petite frame. Cute, but not what she was looking for tonight.
Mona’s attention drifted, back on the hunt until she sensed a presence sliding in the seat next to her. Mona glanced to her left, spotting the woman who had been eyeing her a few moments ago.
“Like what you see?” she asked, leaning in to speak at a lower volume.
“Sorry?” Mona questioned, glancing at her again with a raised eyebrow.
“I could go through the pleasantries,” the woman continued, ignoring Mona’s response, “but I already know what you want.”
Mona smirked and took another sip of her drink, her gaze forward. “Is that right?”
“Why don’t you take me home and find out?” The woman responded, producing a genuine laugh from Mona. She had to give credit where credit was due: the girl had some balls.
“Cute,” Mona said, her eyes finally falling on exactly what she was looking for. “I hope that works on someone tonight, but it won’t be me.”
Mona finished off her drink, her gaze never leaving the brunette she locked eyes with across the bar. Without further comment, Mona stood up and headed around the bar, toward the woman she couldn’t take her eyes off.
Just her luck the stool next to the woman was open and Mona slid in smoothly, requesting whatever the woman was having from the bartender. The woman glanced at Mona curiously, a small smile on her lips. Mona sniffed the drink and raised her brows at the woman before taking a sip.
“Scotch, huh? Rough day?”
“Like you wouldn’t believe,” the woman responded with a breathy laugh. Mona’s eyes roamed the woman’s appearance: all business, and sexy, from head to toe.
“You look important,” Mona commented as her gaze roamed over the woman’s body again.
“And you look like you’re undressing me with your eyes,” she quipped with a smirk.
“Would that be such a bad thing?” Mona questioned smoothly, the two of them sharing a sultry gaze as they sipped their drinks.
“No,” she finally responded, “I don’t suppose it would.”
“Does the important lady have a name?”
“Camilla,” the woman responded, finally. “You?”
“Nico.” She wouldn’t be using her usual identity tonight.
The woman - Camilla - lifted her drink and clinked it against Mona’s glass, finishing off the last of her scotch. Mona watched her intently, mouth quirked slightly. The way her lips cupped the rim of her glass, her tongue just peeking out; the swell of her throat as she swallowed; the smoothness of her skin exposed from her blouse...yes, this was exactly what she was looking for. Mona finished off her drink swiftly then stood up, maintaining eye contact with Camilla.
“Wanna get out of here?”
Camilla laughed incredulously, her cheeks reddening as she toyed with the neckline of her blouse. “And what makes you think I’d want that?”
“You need to relieve stress, and I can make you feel like you’re in another universe,” Mona replied lowly, leaning in to speak in Camilla’s ear. Camilla’s breath hitched, their faces dangerously close as they stared into each other’s eyes. “Plus, your body language is begging for it.”
Camilla attempted to suppress a smile, pursing her lips as Mona leaned against the bar, watching her expectantly. After a moment, Camilla grabbed her bag and stood up, her playful gaze now dark.
“Well? Let’s go, then. I’m a few blocks away.”
They walked quietly, but with purpose. Within minutes they arrived at a tall, beige building, each floor donned with floor to ceiling windows, and Camilla used a key fob to open the door to the lobby.
“Swanky,” Mona commented with a smirk, and Camilla rolled her eyes as they walked to the elevator. “I knew you were important.”
The doors opened and Camilla turned to walk through backward, her brow quirked. “Then I suggest you don’t keep me waiting.”
“Yes ma’am,” Mona replied, loving her directness, and followed her into the elevator. Moments later they walked down the hallway, stopping at the third door on the right. Camilla unlocked the door with haste and pulled Mona in by her jacket, earning a surprised noise from Mona as she stumbled through the doorway. Before she knew it her back was against the slamming door and Camilla’s mouth was on hers. It didn’t take long for Mona to respond with equal fervor, her hands going to either side of Camilla’s face as they kissed passionately.
Clothes were abandoned as Camilla lead them to the bedroom. Mona roughly shoved off the last bit of clothing between them before pushing Camilla on the bed, their eyes locked as Mona climbed up her body. Mona took her time, eyes following the trail of her hands as they roamed Camilla’s smooth, olive skin.
“God, you’re gorgeous,” Mona whispered, surprising herself with the ease in which the words escaped her lips. She ran her hands down Camilla’s stomach once more before flipping her on the bed. Mona ghosted her lips down Camilla’s neck and back, her hands beginning to gently knead at all the tense points in her body. Mona bit her lip, becoming painfully aroused at the sounds coming from Camilla’s mouth as a result of her hands. She needed to touch her.
Mona’s hands went lower, her fingers splayed over Camilla’s ass as she squeezed firmly. Mona nudged Camilla’s legs apart, re-positioning her on her knees. She ran her hands up Camilla’s smooth, shapely legs, then gently trailed her fingertips up her inner thigh, grazing the wetness pooled between Camilla’s legs. Camilla inhaled sharply as Mona pressed her fingers gently, resulting in Mona pulling her fingers away. She draped herself over Camilla’s back and threaded her fingers through Camilla’s hair, then jerked her head back. Camilla gasped but didn’t resist, pushing her backside against Mona with urgency.
“Quiet, or I’ll stop,” Mona warned teasingly, reaching around to place her fingers on Camilla’s lips. Camilla nodded her head in agreement, teeth grazing her bottom lip as Mona slowly dragged her fingertips down Camilla’s throat, shoulders, and back. Camilla bit her lip hard as Mona’s fingers traveled down again, her eyes squeezing shut as Mona’s fingers grazed her entrance, coating them with her wetness before inserting one, then two fingers, pumping them in and out slowly. Camilla whimpered and Mona removed her fingers again, roughly smacking her ass.
“Quiet.”
“Please,” Camilla whimpered, looking over her shoulder with pleading eyes, “I want you to hear what you’re doing to me.”
Mona quite liked that suggestion, kissing back up Camilla’s body. Mona nipped her ear teasingly, arrogant grin never leaving her face, and her hand roamed to Camilla’s chest, gripping her breast tightly and tweaking her nipple.
“Hmm...well, if you insist,” she started, biting Camilla’s neck roughly then tracing the skin gently with her tongue as Camilla let out a loud moan. “Don’t hold back. I want to hear you louder than you’ve ever been.”
Camilla cursed loudly, her knees giving out slightly at what she was hearing. She didn’t have much time to process anything else before Mona’s fingers plunged into her again, and a long moan escaped her mouth. She met Mona’s thrusts earnestly, pushing her hips against Mona’s hand. Once again Mona withdrew her fingers, this time to flip Camilla on her back. Mona wasted no time licking a trail down her body, gently kissing and sucking every inch of skin as she went until her tongue delved between Camilla’s legs.
She licked slowly, gently, her tongue tracing patterns around Camilla’s nub but never fully touching, which was driving her absolutely crazy. Camilla couldn’t control the sounds coming out of her, all she could focus on was getting that delicious pressure right where she needed it. Mona placed her hands on Camilla’s hips, holding her in place, then pressed the flat of her tongue against Camilla’s clit in delicious circles. Her orgasm hit her suddenly and so intensely that her eyes rolled back, causing her to see stars.
After she came down, Mona kissed back up her body to her lips and smirked as Camilla gently pushed her down to roll on top of her.
“I guess you really did know how to relax me,” Camilla purred, “but now it’s your turn.”
Mona’s breath caught at the smoldering look in Camilla’s eyes, watching as she kissed lower and lower until…
“Fuck,” Mona hissed, gripping Camilla’s hair. Their eyes never left each others, and very soon Mona began to feel the familiar tingle building, threatening to explode at any moment. When it finally hit Mona buried her face in her bicep, biting so hard it immediately broke blood vessels. Just as Mona’s orgasm started to come down, Camilla inserted two fingers, and Mona’s body went into overdrive. The swell of another orgasm quickly built and Mona’s body tensed, her body arching off the bed as her peak hit.
They laid side by side in silence as they gained control of their breathing, sensations still buzzing in their bodies. After a moment, Camilla turned on her side, hand propping up her head.
“That was exciting,” she commented, eyes roaming Mona’s face.
“Sure was,” Mona responded, folding her arms behind her head and closing her eyes. Silence ensued for another moment before Camilla spoke again.
“So...should I leave now, or…?”
“Yep. Good time. Bye now.”
“Shut up,” Lexi laughed, shoving Mona’s side gently before curling up against her. Mona chuckled, her fingers absently running up and down Lexi’s spine as she reveled in the feel of their skin against each other; that never got old. “Seriously, though. That was fun. We should do stuff like that more often.”
“After six years, I gotta do something to keep you interested,” Mona joked with a wink, squeezing Lexi against her.
“Mmm. Six years. Who would have thought?” Lexi mused. Mona pressed a kiss to Lexi’s temple, closing her eyes with a satisfied sigh. Lexi’s fingers begin trailing a pattern over Mona’s bare chest, slowly teasing Mona’s nipple to a point. Mona inhaled sharply, feeling the familiar tingle in her body again. Insatiable.
“Who cares? You keep doing that and you’ll get another six out of me.”
Lexi shrieked out a laugh as Mona rolled on top of her quickly, and Mona grinned in response, propping her elbows on either side of Lexi’s head. Lexi gazed up at her affectionately, her hand reaching up to cup Mona’s cheek. Mona closed her eyes and kissed Lexi’s palm before leaning down and placing a long, gentle kiss against Lexi’s lips.
“Thanks for still being hot for me after six years,” Mona joked, moving a strand of hair out of Lexi’s face as she looked on at her affectionately.
“Always,” Lexi laughed, placing a gentle kiss on Mona’s chin. “I love you.”
Mona’s mouth lifted to a half smile. She never tired of hearing that.
“Love you, nerd. Happy anniversary.”

Time waits for no one
Trigger warning: If you’ve struggled with pregnancy, this might be a hard read. Babies, children, etc. I dunno. It was a small laugh, you could barely even hear it but it still lit up the room. Ellie couldn’t help but feel it in her soul. The warmth, the light, all from such a small bundle of joy. She held her close, her small fingers wrapped around her thumb, her brown eyes wide with wonder and a hint of mischief. God, she looked like Mona.
As if summoned by the thought, Mona walked through the door, hands dirty from fiddling in the garage. “We’ll get a few more miles out of her,” she said, wiping her hands on a rag before tucking it in her back pocket.
Ellie smiled, catching her eye. “We’ve already gotten far more than we should’ve, thanks to you.”
Mona’s neck turned the slightest shade of red before she covered it with her hand, rubbing awkwardly. “Just doing my part,” she mumbled. She leaned over, looking at the swaddled baby in Ellie’s arms.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to this,” she said lightly, in awe of the miracle they’d created. She opened her mouth to speak again when a loud blaring interrupted the moment.
Ellie opened her eyes, flailing to turn off the alarm. The room seemed darker than normal, coming out of the dream. Just a dream.
Alarm snoozed, she curled her arms around herself, taking a deep breath.
Happy, she thought, squeezing her eyes tight. I’m happy. I’m with the woman I love, doing what I love. That is enough. This is enough.
She hated herself for where her mind wandered in the night. She hated herself for the minutes that passed while she reminded herself how lucky she was, how happy she was. She hated every second that she didn’t believe the words.
“El?” Mona called from the other room. “You up?”
She blinked back the tears, steadying herself. “Working on it,” she answered lightly, adding a grumble at the end. She never understood how Mona was such a morning person.
Mona poked her head in, her brown eyes roaming over Ellie’s body. “Get a move on,” she said, lingering a little too long in the door.
“Sure that’s what you want?” asked Ellie with a wink.
Mona chuckled. “We’ve got to get to the shop.”
And that was that. Ellie pulled herself from bed, dressing quickly and darting out the door.
---
Mona took a deep breath. Nothing made her feel more at home these days than car grease tinged with gasoline. She looked around the shop, a lion surveying its domain. Ellie had made a beeline for the office, mumbling something about paperwork. She handled the business of it all, leaving Mona to the cars. With Ellie’s business sense and her...obsession...they were well on their way to being a premier import dealership in the area.
On their way, being the key phrase. It hadn’t been easy-going. El did her time in college and Mona served hers. They had a late start, and they’d put every dollar they had into growing this business.
They were happy, though. She wasn’t one for words or feelings, but Ellie...Ellie turned it all around for her. She made her something...someone.
“Hey boss!” Mona shook her head, returning to the hustle and bustle of the shop.
---
Ellie focused on the work. It always gave her some feeling of purpose. She was happy. That was the most frustrating part of all of it. She loved Mona, she loved their life. It was her decision not to...not to conceive.
She paused, taking a deep breath. This is stupid. Get yourself together, Ellie. But it wasn’t that simple. These things never were, were they? Her body yearned for a baby, her own baby. It was in her DNA. It was something she’d dreamed about since she was small.
And now she was old. Old, and in love, and all she wanted was to put more love into the world. She remembered that little girl from her dream. She had Mona’s eyes, her dark hair. A real heartbreaker.
But that wasn’t reality, of course. They couldn’t just...make a baby. Maybe that’s why it hurt so much. Even if she could carry, the baby wouldn’t be theirs. Not biologically. And she knew, of course she knew that that didn’t really matter.
And then there was the cost. They couldn’t afford it, even if they were in agreement, even if they both wanted it.
She wasn’t sure when the tears began, but she wiped them from her face quickly when she heard a rap at the door.
“Hey, El, I--” Mona cut off as she caught sight of Ellie’s tear-stained face. “El?”
“Hey, baby,” Ellie said, dropping her gaze to the stack of papers on the desk. “I was just about to start the invoices. What did you need?”
Mona crossed the room in two steps, towering beside Ellie. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, I’m--”
“El,” she said quietly, kneeling before her. “You’re crying.” Mona wiped a tear from her cheek, her calloused thumb so gentle as it grazed her skin.
“I--I can’t…” Ellie murmured. She knew if she told Mona she’d blame herself. She couldn’t put that on her. But it hurt, holding it in. No one would understand. It’s not like she was physically unable to conceive. It was...it was her choice, right? She chose Mona, she chose the business. She chose this life.
“Ellie.” Mona’s voice was firm as she squeezed Ellie’s hand. “This is not how we do things. Talk to me.”
---
Love has a way of warping us. If we’re lucky, it’s for the best. But sometimes it’s not. Sometimes, it derails everything. Mona knew that pain too well. Like a cement block tied to your feet, dragging you down when all you want to do is tread water.
She tried to hide the tremor in her hand as she kneeled on the dirty floor, eyes locked on Ellie. Before she even spoke, she could feel it in her bones. These tears, they were about her...about them. Her head swam, heart thundering. We’re happy, she thought, overanalyzing every interaction, everything she’d done, everything she hadn’t. I thought we were happy.
“Ellie.” The word came like a lifeline, the only thing tethering her to the scene before her.
“I’m sorry,” Ellie whimpered. “This is so stupid.”
Mona had been shot. She’d been betrayed. She’d experienced every kind of pain imaginable. But nothing like the way her heart tore right now, watching Ellie, hearing Ellie’s pain.
“No,” she said, forcing the air into her lungs. “Your feelings are not stupid. Please, El, tell me.”
---
Ellie couldn’t stop the tears, now. She was angry with herself, angry for letting it get to her, angry for letting Mona see. She took a breath, meeting Mona’s eyes. She could sense her fear, and she knew she didn’t have a choice. Not anymore.
“I haven’t been sleeping well,” she began, trying to find some explanation for the intensity of her emotions. “I guess I’m just tired and emotional, I guess that’s why I’m such a mess.”
“What’s got you so upset?” Mona asked, not letting her off the hook.
“I’ve been dreaming,” she said with a sigh. “I’ve been dreaming about having a baby. Yours, and mine. Ours. It...it’s part of each of us, and...she’s so beautiful, and...I know…”
She cut off, taking a shaky breath, trying to find the right words. “I know that we agreed. I know that I agreed, that I changed my mind. But I...I can’t help feeling like I’m missing out on something.”
Mona was quiet, eyes on Ellie. It was true, they’d agreed. They’d agreed to put the business first...the business Mona wanted. They’d agreed not to have a child of their own. A child that Ellie had always wanted to carry and Mona wasn’t even sure she wanted.
“We can adopt,” Mona started carefully. “Like we talked about. Older kids, the ones that need love and safety.”
“Yea,” Ellie said softly. “I know.”
---
This is out of left field, Mona thought. But the more she thought about it, she realized that wasn’t fair. It wasn’t, not for Ellie. Ellie, who’d dreamed of carrying a child, who’d dreamed of giving birth and being a mom.
Mona never really wanted kids. Not after everything she’d been through, everything she’d done. She didn’t need to ruin another human. She just needed to stay as far away from influencing anyone’s life as possible. She was too broken, too utterly damaged to be a parent.
But with Ellie...she’d opened her mind to the possibility. But then Ellie said she wasn’t sure if she wanted it, anymore. And then they started the business, and years had passed, and now...now it was barely an option.
“I’m sorry,” she said, unable to meet Ellie’s eyes. “I don’t know what to do.”
It was all she could say. She always had a solution, a way to fix things, a way to make them better. But she couldn’t fix this. She couldn’t turn back time. She couldn’t change biology. She couldn’t magically acquire thousands of dollars for one shot...a long shot, with Ellie’s age.
“Me either,” Ellie whispered.
The air was heavy between them. Mona stood, wrapping her arm around Ellie’s shoulders.
“Why don’t we take off?” Mona asked, gently. “Go home early, maybe go for a ride?”
It was a band-aid, at best. She knew that. It wasn’t an easy thing, mourning something you’d never had...someone you’d never know. As she held Ellie’s hand and led her out of the garage, she felt the sadness she carried with her. She even felt some sadness herself. She hadn’t wanted a child, but to see how badly Ellie did...it felt like something had been ripped away from them before they’d even had the chance to decide they wanted it.
They climbed in the car and drove home in silence, Mona feeling unbearably like a cement block.

Broken (short fic)
Mona x MC (Ellie Wheeler)
Warnings: angst, major character death
"Oh gosh Mona! You're bleeding!" Ellie's panicked voice cut the silence that followed after the shot. She bolted to the Mona's side and collapsed on her knees trying to stop the bleeding. She didn't know what she was doing, but the adrenaline rush was too strong. She wanted to help her. She has to. "You took that bullet for me." She told more to herself, her voice on the verge of crying.
"No shit, princess." Mona snarled clutching her bleeding abdomen and Ellie's hands. She felt as if her insides wanted to come out. "Damn it, my favorite clothes are ruined" She tried to joke to lighten the mood, but she started violently coughing and vicing in pain. Ellie's face grew more worried each time the other's body jerked.
"Okay, okay, it's just a minor injury." Ellie took a deep breath "You will be okay, we will be okay, We need just..." She started rambling and Mona squizzed her hand a little harder.
"You don't believe in that, do you?" Mona's expression was hard as steel and her voice startled panicked girl. She hated seeing Ellie in this state and the thought that she is the reason hurt her more than any wound could ever. She sighed, every breath burned in her throat.
At this exact moment she knew, that giving her life for Ellie's was the best decision in her entire life. This girl gave her a reason to not screw up her life too much. Even if it was only a few weeks, she grew up on her stronger than she would admit.
"I lied to you." Mona started avoiding the other's gaze. It was time for her to come clean and finally completely open up to her. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Ellie looking at her with puzzled expression. "I'm afraid." She took a deep breath which she regretted instantly, because air started to scratch her lungs. "I was afraid. The moment I saw you I was so damn afraid."
"I-I don't understand Mona."
The black-haired woman gritted her teeth and sucked a deep breath. She loved this girl soo much, but she was too oblivious sometimes. She fought hard not to close her eyes, but the will for it was growing stronger. "Remember that day when you came to us for the first time?" Her voice grew hoarse with every word.
Ellie slowly nodded looking directly in Mona's eyes. "Yeah, you hated me then." As if on cue, rain began to sprinkle around them, as if trying to wash away the weight of memories. Ellie's heart began to break at the thought of every happy moment spent with Mona and every moment they could have spent with each other, if Mona hadn't tried to isolate herself so much from her.
Mona's body jerked with a breathy chuckle and she spatted a little bit of blood. "From that moment on, every day I feel ashamed of myself for keeping you at a distance. I thought this was my way of protecting you from myself." She coughed again, griping her wound harder, feeling the blood seeping through her fingers. "I don't have time for this." She groaned and pressed Ellie's face to hers, kissing her as if trying to make up for lost time when her pride wouldn't let her near her.
She poured everything she felt for her into that kiss. Fear, love, admiration. She ran her tongue over Ellie's lips trying to remember their taste and shape. Every second of this kiss burned her lungs. Her hands with which she held Ellie's face began to slowly fall. She felt her end approaching as strength began to leave her body.
Ellie could feel blood in that kiss, but she didn't care, and neither did she care about the bloody streaks Mona left on her cheeks. It wasn't her dream kiss, but if it was truly going to be the last one, nothing played a role. Her hands caressed the cold cheeks of the black-haired woman trying to warm her body, but she knew it was only a matter of time.
Mona's eyelids grew heavier by the minute, and her breathing grew shallow. She felt hot tears on her pale, cold face and she didn't know if they were her or Ellie's. She tried to breathe, but it was as if her lungs were going to explode from one more breath. Even if the pain was too much, she was afraid to stop. She was afraid to leave Ellie.
"I love you, Ellie. I always will." With that sentence her last breath escaped in to the cold air, and her body went limp in Ellie's arms. The rain began to fall harder, beating a mournful rhythm around them. Ellie squeezed her eyes shut, pressing Mona's cold face against her chest, crying out to the empty space.
She felt broken.

They Were Birds (Colt Kaneko x f!MC)
“They Were Birds”
Colt Kaneko x f!MC (Risa Ferrera)
Word count: 1291
Takes place right after the end of chapter 12, if u weren’t a bitch ass and snitched on the Crew to Jason. AKA ur ass dying in the vault.
angst! sorry, but not really xoxo (colt I still love you)
Risa was smart; and being smart, she was entirely aware death was inevitable. Being aware of the inevitability of death, and that life and the universe were fickle, often left her pondering how and when she might die in a way she had no control over: making a deposit at the bank when someone decided to rob it at gunpoint, crossing the street when someone blows through a red light, being in the school gym when someone decided to rig explosives in the boiler room during a rally, à la J.D. from Heathers. Amidst all the scenarios she had thought of, she had never thought she would be trapped in a vault in an underground Los Angeles casino, feeling her throat close up as she watched gas spew from a grenade on the floor in front of her.
Despite Jason being a traitor, she should have listened. Despite getting Logan to help her attempt to stop the Crew, she should have listened. Despite feeling her heart break when Colt told Logan to “Get rid of her,” she should have marched her ass out of that casino. Risa quickly shook her head. It wasn’t in her moral compass to walk out when she knew people were going to end up hurt, end up dead. But if she had just left when Jason told her to, she would be able to call her father, tell her she loves him…
Call. Jason told her to leave and call her father. She had her phone on her, tucked in her back pocket.
Risa did her best to work through the mental fog coming from her slowly losing her ability to breathe. If she called her dad, she would be able to tell him she loved him, tell him goodbye. But if she called someone from the Crew, she might be able to make it out alive…
She scrambled to grab her phone from her back pocket. At this point, the fog was steadily getting thicker, and her mind was steadily getting foggier, making it difficult to focus on something as simple as calling someone. Risa squinted, unlocking the device and going to her contacts, scrolling down until she saw…
Colt Kaneko.
In her inability to think straight, she called him. It was the first name from the Crew she saw (alphabetical contacts, after all), and it didn’t cross her mind until she had her phone pressed to her ear that he might not even pick up. She wasted precious time calling someone who might not even pick up.
“Please,” Risa croaked out, hugging her knees with her free arm on the floor, “Pick up, pick up, pick up.”
“Risa, I told you to leave-”
Risa almost cried tears of relief when she heard his voice.
“Colt,” she cried out, “Please. Please help, I-I-I’m in the vault, and I-” She coughed, and when she inhaled, her throat was so swollen it felt like nothing got through to her lungs. Her mind was getting hazier, but she heard a Fuck! and a handful of muted voices in the background.
It hurt to think at this point, to put any energy into trying to wrap her head around anything that was going on. All she could think of was trying to get oxygen down her throat and to her lungs, but at this point, it was easier to lie on the floor and accept whatever the universe had in store for her.
Her dad always taught her that the universe had a plan, and that sometimes you just had to accept what was meant to be rather than push back and fight it. He told her that on days he worked on dangerous cases, saying that if he died on the job, it was because it was what was meant to be. Risa didn’t think her dad, or her, ever thought that kind of sentiment would apply to her, lying on the cool metal floor of a vault that would ultimately become her final resting place.
The cool floor felt nice. Risa curled up, resting her cheek on the floor, and all she could focus on was the stark contrast between how hot she felt and how cold the floor was against her warm skin. Her vision began to warp, like she was trapped in a tunnel, looking forward, and despite her mental state (or lack thereof) she was faintly aware of hearing commotion from the other side of the vault door, the metallic creak of it swinging open, of the light in the room changing when the lighting from the hallway flooded in.
Risa’s eyelids fluttered rapidly, and suddenly the idea of sleeping sounded really, really good to her. She jumped as she felt someone pick her up and she heard a voice in her ear as she was rushed out into the hallway. Someone was talking to her, but all she could hear was a warbled noise, like Ms. Othmar from Peanuts when she spoke to the students.
Something changed. All of a sudden, she realized she wasn’t breathing in some noxious gas, but rather clean oxygen. She didn’t feel blinded from the harsh fluorescents in the vault, but rather felt warm from the yellow lighting in the hallway. Risa tried to put her energy into keeping her eyelids open, see who was carrying her, find out where she was, but she was exhausted, and she still felt like she was suffocating.
The person set her on the floor. Risa put more effort into seeing who was holding her, and her brain barely made out blue velvet, just like Colt was wearing. Did he come to save me? Her brain was still muddled, her head still aching, but she became keenly aware of her sweatshirt being tugged on. She realized it was Colt, his hands bunched into her sweatshirt as he buried his face in her chest. And… was he crying?
“Ri,” Colt cried, and in that one word, that was the most emotion she had ever heard the black-haired-boy express before. “I’m so sorry. God, I really fucked up.”
Risa opened her mouth to speak, but she just coughed instead, her throat still feeling like someone had taken a bicycle pump and inflated it close to bursting. Her inhale was more of a wheeze, and her mind was still reeling. Looking up at the ceiling, she looked at all the Renaissance detailing, similar to the paintings painted on the ceilings of cathedrals. Maybe a cathedral where her funeral would be held, if she ended up dying.
The art reminded her of that painting of Icarus falling, and when she first saw it, she thought of Colt. Colt, neglecting to listen to his father and flying too close to the sun, neglecting to listen to his father when he said he was having third, fourth, fifth thoughts. Now, though, Risa was thinking she was Icarus, and her dad was Daedalus. When her dad got mad at her at the kitchen table that one morning, it was because he cared about her safety, and she ignored him.
Now, she had flown too close to the sun. The wax was melting, seeping down into her throat and sealing it shut. She was free-falling, down into the ocean below, and she didn’t know what came next.
Her head was reeling, and the faster she fell, the less she was able to focus mentally on what was happening. Colt was still crying, and the could make out shapes of the Crew rushing over and around her. They were birds, she thought, they were birds and I thought I could fly beside them.
Her chest hurt. God, her chest hurt. And then she hit the surface of the ocean, and the tides swallowed her whole.

That's The Entire Problem
Pairings: Mona x mc
Rating: general
Published:  3/24/19
Disclaimer: the characters are not mine.
Author's notes: a continuation of wanna get outta here? I've got enough right now for maybe a part three?
You stare wide eyed and slack jaw under the hood as Toby wrenches on your latest modifications. To you everything looks like a messy tangle of wires, hoses, and boxes.
You lean in running your fingertips over the numbers engraved on the top of the engine. "What do these mean?" you ask.
Toby stops and looks where you're pointing.  "Engine size." he responds and continues his work.
"So they come in different sizes!?" you ask again.
"Yes."
"But how would it fit? Would you have to take some of this other junk out?" you rapid fire questions. Toby sighs adjusting his glasses with his thumb.
"Hey.. You.." you turn to see Colt holding a cardboard box.
"Me?"
"Yeah.. Want some pizza?"
You bite your lip and glance between the engine and the pizza. You sigh and walk towards the table.
Colt looks you over. "New jacket." he inquires and you shrug picking a piece of pepperoni off a slice of pizza.
"Looks familiar." he prods.
"Did you call me over here to interrogate me?" you snap.
"Nah I called you over because Toby's head was about to pop off from all the questions. " he pauses and you both glance back at Toby. "Besides I think interrogations are your old man's job. Not mine." he adds with a smirk and you scowl.
"Lay off!" Mona's voice commands and you turn to see her stomping towards you.
Colt stops and looks her over. "Something's different. What could it be?" he sneers. Mona bristles.
"Hm.. Seems everybody has a new jacket." he smirks before walking away.
"Thanks." you say staring at your pizza. Mona regards you thoughtfully and shrugs. She grabs a slice of pizza and wanders over to where Ximena is.
Logan sits beside you grinning, and you blink at him. "Where'd you go last night?" he asks.
"Oh I uh.. You stammer as your eyes wander back to where Mona is grinning at Ximena. She glances at you and winks causing you to blush.
"I see." Logan comments looking slightly crestfallen.
"See what?" you challenge, he sighs running his hand over the back of his neck.
"Look Mona is.." Logan starts and you glare at him.
"Please finish that sentence." you challenge .
Logan sighs. "She's great to have around for our work. But I don't trust any of them, and she never lets anyone close enough." his voice trails off. "If you want another driving lesson I can take you. We'll talk about this later."
You glare at him. "I'll take the lesson but Mona and I are not your concern."
Logan sighs. "Have it your own way. Lets go then." You stand following Logan to his car. Mona falls silent watching the two of you climb into his car. She crosses her arms and you drop your gaze to the floor.
~~~
"What's gotten into you?" Ximena prods.
"Nothing." Mona snaps.
"Is that nothing spelled E-L-L-I-E?" Ximena challenges.
"I'm so screwed, X."
"I saw you two ride off last night. Now today she's wearing your jacket." Ximena observes.
"Yeah. Don't know how that happened." Mona shrugs.
Ximena tilts her head. "I think you better figure it out before someone gets hurt."
"Someone always gets hurt." Mona responds.
"That right there is the entire problem.." Ximena counters. Mona stares at her.
"You go into everything thinking that."
"So?" Mona shrugs.
"So. That's what really gets people hurt." Ximena finishes and leaves Mona to her thoughts.
Unwind (Mona x MC, NSFW)
Book: Ride or Die: A Bad Boy Romance Pairing: Mona x MC (Lexi Padilla) Plot: When Mona’s thoughts keep her awake, Lexi helps her unwind. Notes: I caved. Behold, my first venture into choices fanfic. I’m surprised I held out for 2 years, haaaa. Enjoy fellow Mona stans! Warnings/Ratings: Super duper NOT SFW. And some fluff. But mostly not. Music: Unwind - Healy
Mona glanced at the numbers glaring from the stove clock as she quietly crept across the dark room, curling her fingers around her keys so as not to make any extra noise. She set them down in the glass bowl by the couch, continuing her silent venture to the bedroom. A loud yowl and hiss startled Mona and she jumped back, cursing under her breath and narrowing her eyes at the offender.
“Stupid cat,” she grumbled, hissing back for added effect. Gunther ignored the response, rubbing his fur against Mona’s legs and head bunting her ankles. She scowled at him as he continued his affections, then rolled her eyes and bent down to scoop him up. He purred and nuzzled into her neck, causing her to chuckle at the sensation.
She’d never cared for animals; what purpose did they serve aside from ruining everything of value? But within the first week of being in the apartment, Lexi discovered an orphaned kitten and was obstinate about keeping it, despite Mona’s heavy protests. Even more to her chagrin, Mona actually liked the little fur ball. Mona scratched his head a few more times then set him down, headed to the bedroom again.
She stopped in the doorway, leaning against the frame  and folding her arms across her chest as she stared at Lexi’s sleeping silhouette. They’d been in their apartment for just under 2 months, and it’d been a hell of an adjustment. Mona wasn’t used to caring about or for anyone other than herself, and she preferred it that way. At least, until Lexi showed up.
After the showdown with the Brotherhood, Mona never expected to see Lexi again. She knew the pain of being betrayed by naively trusting someone you cared for all too well, and she knowingly and purposefully inflicted that on Lexi. But if Lexi hated her, she was alive, and as long as she got to live, it was worth it...no matter how it affected Mona. But Lexi was always full of surprises, and for some reason unbeknownst to Mona, Lexi still wanted her around.
When Lexi had first asked Mona to come with her when she left for college, Mona had laughed in her face, sure that Lexi must have been joking. But the seriousness of Lexi’s expression made Mona falter, her eyebrows knitting as she eyed Lexi.
“You’re not kidding,” Mona deadpanned.
“Why would I be kidding?” Lexi countered, raising an eyebrow.
“Why wouldn’t you.” Lexi continued to stare. “What the hell would I do in Oklahoma, Lexi. In case you’ve forgotten, I didn’t even graduate high school.”
“As if we’re above paying for forged documents,” Lexi quipped. Mona rolled her eyes and smirked. That’s my girl.
“I need to lay low for a while.”
“It’s Oklahoma.”
“How would I make money?”
“You have more money than I’ve ever dreamed of seeing--”
“Yeah, and I need that money!” Mona protested. “I told you, I enjoy the finer things in life.”
Lexi smacked her arm lightly, causing Mona to chuckle. “I’m being serious here, jerk. I just...I’m not ready to let you go. I’m not ready to lose you.”
Mona’s teasing grin faltered, her heart stopping for a split second as she stared into Lexi’s big, doe eyes. Could she do this? Could she really let her go? She shook the thought out of her head, making a halfhearted joke to change the subject.
Mona continued to refute Lexi’s efforts to get her to change her mind up to the very end. But by the morning of Lexi’s departure, Mona realized she wasn’t ready to let this go, either, even though it went against everything she believed in; everything she believed about herself. She had finally found something, someone that overpowered her drive to just survive. So she threw all practical judgment out the window, grabbed a bag, threw in what she needed and wanted, bought a one way ticket to OKC, and beelined it to the airport. She would never forget the look on Lexi’s face when she saw Mona sitting in the boarding area, legs crossed and blowing a bubble with her gum as she smirked and shot a wink at Lexi.
“Hey, hot stuff,” Lexi said hoarsely, shaking Mona from her reverie. Lexi grinned sleepily as she stretched her arms above her head, then turned on her side to rest her chin on her hand. Mona smirked, raising one hand off her arm to wiggle her fingers in a wave. “What’re you doing?”
“Thinking,” Mona muttered, making her way toward the bed. She slid in next to Lexi, immediately opening her arm for Lexi to scoot into her nook. She began tracing distracted patterns on Lexi’s arm, placing a gentle kiss against her temple and Lexi sighed, snuggling closer to her.
“Where’d you go?”
Mona cringed slightly, pausing her ministrations momentarily before resuming. Lexi usually slept like the dead; she didn’t think her absence would wake her. “For a drive. Couldn’t sleep.”
Lexi hummed in response, placing a tender kiss against the space between Mona’s neck and shoulder as she twirled the ends of Mona’s hair between her fingers, causing Mona to shiver involuntarily. “Wanna talk about it?”
Mona looked over at Lexi, turning on her side to face her. It was the little things Mona loved; the random scattering of sun kisses on her face, the gold streaks in her rich brown eyes that made them shine even in the darkness, the way her eyebrows creased in concern, confusion, frustration, and everything in between. Mona traced Lexi’s eyebrow with her thumb, down the side of her face, then leaned in to place a gentle kiss against her lips.
Lexi melted into the kiss, slowly deepening it as she sighed into Mona’s mouth. After a few moments, Lexi pushed Mona down slightly, throwing a leg over her to straddle her. Mona raised her brows in surprise, splaying her hands against Lexi’s stomach underneath her oversized shirt. Lexi reached down and hastily removed her shirt, tossing it across the room. Mona smirked, sitting up and securing her arms tightly around Lexi’s back.
“Someone’s eager,” she teased, placing light kisses down Lexi’s neck. Lexi shoved Mona’s shoulder playfully, gasping as Mona nipped at her sensitive skin.
“Always,” she breathed, then pressed her lips to Mona’s roughly, quickly deepening the kiss as she ran her fingers through Mona’s hair, grasping it in her hands. A strangled noise came from the back of Mona’s throat involuntarily, turning into a low moan as Lexi moved to lift Mona’s shirt up. Lexi broke the kiss only to remove it, crashing her lips against Mona’s almost immediately, reveling in the feel of their skin against each other.
Lexi began slowly rolling her hips into Mona, their tongues continuing their slow, languid moves against each other. Lexi reached behind her to grab Mona’s hand, moving it to her stomach. Lexi placed her hand over Mona’s and slowly guided it down, under the band of her underwear until she felt Mona’s fingers against her. She gasped and bit Mona’s bottom lip as Mona began gently stroking her, her eyelids fluttering closed.
“See what you do to me?” she breathed, her head falling back as Mona continued her ministrations, placing sloppy kisses down Lexi’s neck. Lexi moaned, dropping her forehead against Mona’s shoulder as she felt one, then two fingers enter her. She matched Mona’s movements, rolling her hips against Mona’s hand with each pump. She felt the heat building, right on the edge as Mona stopped her motions, earning a frustrated noise from Lexi. Mona chuckled and held Lexi against her as she flipped them quickly. Mona slowly licked down Lexi’s chest, taking her nipple between her teeth gently. Lexi gripped Mona’s shoulders, her face flushed as their eyes locked. Mona slowly, torturously made her way lower, removing clothing barriers from both of them before kissing and nipping Lexi’s inner thigh.
After far too long, Lexi felt Mona’s tongue gliding against her gently, her hands roaming over every bit of Lexi’s exposed skin. Lexi’s eyes screwed shut, noises she didn’t even know she was capable of escaping her lips as Mona continued her delicious torture. Just as Lexi thought she would combust from pleasure, Mona inserted her fingers, slowly twisting and curling them as she pumped in and out. In no time, Lexi was digging her nails into Mona’s shoulders and squeezing Mona’s head between her legs, back arching as she cried out from the intensity of her orgasm. Mona gave one more gentle lick, causing Lexi to shudder from sensitivity. Mona chuckled, and began kissing her way back to Lexi’s face.
Lexi sat up abruptly, pulling Mona into her lap as she kissed her roughly. She wasted no time in kissing her way down Mona’s neck and chest, much to Mona’s delight. Mona threw her head back, cradling Lexi’s head as she licked and sucked her breasts. Lexi lowered her hand between Mona’s legs, teasingly stroking between her folds.
“Someone’s eager,” Lexi mocked teasingly, but Mona was so turned on she couldn’t even formulate a response. Instead, she grabbed Lexi’s chin with one hand, forcefully pulling her into another heated kiss. Lexi responded with equal ferver then pulled away, laying back and letting her hands roam to Mona’s back side with a squeeze. Her eyes raked Mona’s naked body, in awe of how she managed to convince someone so perfect to stay with her.
“You planning on staring at me all night, or are you gonna get me off?” Mona quipped with an amused expression, grinding her hips against Lexi’s for effect. Lexi tightened her grip on Mona’s ass, then pulled her forward.
“C’mere.” Mona raised a questioning eyebrow at Lexi. Lexi once again pulled Mona’s hips toward her, but Mona maintained her position.
“What do you want?” Mona said lowly, leaning forward until their lips were a breath apart.
Lexi still struggled with communicating in the bedroom, which was intimidating as Mona was very much the opposite. But Lexi knew exactly what she wanted, and if she’d learned anything over the last year, it was not to let her fear overpower her anymore.
“I want you to ride my face,” Lexi breathed. Mona’s eyes widened in surprise, then flashed with such intensity that Lexi felt the wind knocked out of her. Mona kissed her hungrily, smirked, and slowly started climbing back up Lexi’s body until she was upright, straddling Lexi’s head. Lexi didn’t waste a moment, her hands finding Mona’s ass again as she pulled her down to her mouth.
“Fuck,” Mona gasped, gripping Lexi’s forearm roughly. She slowly began grinding her hips against Lexi’s face, eliciting a low rumble of pleasure from Lexi. “I’m not going to last long if you keep that up.”
Lexi looked up at Mona, reveling in the way she bit her lip as she threw her head back, squeezing her eyes shut. Lexi matched her speed and pressure to Mona’s movements, roaming her hands up and down Mona’s smooth skin. Mona’s movements became more frantic, murmurs of pleasure crescendoing until Mona fell apart, shuddering as she fought to keep herself upright. Mona lifted herself off of Lexi, breathing heavily as she paused for a moment before climbing down, face to face with Lexi.
“Where the hell did you learn to talk like that,” Mona teased, still out of breath as their foreheads pressed together, her fingertips trailing down Lexi’s cheek and neck.
“From the best, obviously,” Lexi chuckled, pressing a kiss to Mona’s mouth. Mona hummed in approval, a cheeky grin taking over her face.
“Mmm...well, since you’re such a diligent student and all, maybe it’s time for another lesson.” Mona began her descent down Lexi’s body, then straddled Lexi’s face once again, this time facing the opposite direction. Lexi moaned, enjoying the feeling of Mona’s mouth on her before being all-consumed with pleasuring Mona simultaneously. Their climaxes swelled quickly and they both fell apart, one after the other, before falling against their pillows side by side, breathing heavily.
“Jesus,” Mona breathed, flinging an arm over her eyes as she continued her attempt at regulating her breathing. She felt Lexi’s hand slowly covering the hand laying between them, intertwining their fingers together. Mona glanced at her briefly before covering her eyes again, releasing Lexi’s hand to invite her back into her nook. Lexi quickly shimmied into Mona’s side, tangling their legs together as she covered them with a sheet. It was silent for a while, their breathing finally back to normal, and Mona assumed Lexi had fallen asleep.
“I love you,” Lexi breathed sleepily, eyes closed as she pressed a kiss to Mona’s bare shoulder. Mona felt a surge of emotion bubbling up, still foreign and equally frustrating to her. She swallowed hard, tightening her arm around Lexi.
“I...” Mona paused, fear overtaking her. Even though she’d slipped up months back, she’d made every effort not to again. In Mona’s eyes, her actions should have said enough. “You know how I feel about you.” She kissed Lexi’s hair as Lexi nuzzled into her, her breathing deep as she fell asleep quickly.
Mona continued to stare at Lexi’s peaceful form, their bodies still intertwined as she slept deeply. She stroked Lexi’s hair, smoothing down the messy strays with an affectionate smile.
“I love you,” she whispered, placing a feather light kiss on Lexi’s cheek as she slept. Mona didn’t know what the future held for her or for them. She had never allowed herself to think of her life as anything but solitary, never settling in one place and certainly not with one person. As Gunther climbed on the bed, circling before settling down at Mona’s feet, she realized that for the first time in her life she didn’t have a plan B...and she was okay with not being one step ahead. With that thought, she drifted off into the first peaceful sleep she’d had in a while.
adventures - mona x mc
Tumblr media
Book: Ride or Die: A Bad Boy Romance Pairing: Mona x MC (I used the default name Ellie) Plot: Based on one of my headcanons where Mona picks Ellie and Riya up at school, and everyone is staring at Mona. Both because she’s so intimidating to them, and because she’s gorgeous. Warnings: Nothing Notes: Yes, I know I’m really busy with uni right now, AND I still have your prompts to work through, but I wanted to write some Mona x MC. Just a small thing to tide you over until my bigger fics, and to thank you for being so understanding. Tag list: @brightpinkpeppercorn, @flyawayboo, @samara-rani, @alj4890, @skipperthetechgirl, @give-me-ernest-sinclaire, @nitta-jaeguet, @mistersinclaire, @krish58100, @naomisilverhawk, @danielaasturias, @virgofairy, @crazzyplays, @ineedsomemilkandmemes, @queerchoicesblog and @indescribablechoices. Please let me know if you want to be added to my taglist.
As the final bell rang, signalling the end of the school day, Ellie and Riya walked out of school and towards their bus stop. Both of them were focused on their discussion about the day’s homework, until: “Hey.” Riya nudged Ellie, causing the latter to look up. “Look who it is.” Ellie followed her gaze and noticed a familiar figure in the parking lot leaning against her car. Mona. “Thought you said she wasn’t coming to pick you up today?” Riya asked.
“I didn’t think she was.” The two of them began the short walk across the lot to Mona’s car. As they neared, they noticed most their fellow students doing anything to avoid looking at Mona. Not that she could blame them. Standing there, with her shades on and her leather jacket draped around her shoulders, whilst also being at least 6 foot tall (aided by her heeled boots of course), Mona looked like a giant. A very hot giant, but an intimidating one nevertheless. The few freshmen who did steal a few glances her way were quickly on the receiving end of a glare, causing them to scurry away.
“Damn, she’s good.” Riya stated. Ellie smiled proudly.
“Yes, she is.” At that moment, Mona glanced up and saw them both approaching. A grin broke out on her face.
“Hey sweet!” She called, making everyone around them who wasn’t already staring turn their way. Ellie ran up to her, and immediately kissed her on the lips.
“I thought you weren’t going to pick me up today.”
“Changed my mind.” Mona shrugged. “Hey Riya.” Riya gave a little wave. Mona suddenly looked behind Ellie and Riya. “Looks like we’ve got ourselves a crowd, babes.” She nodded, and the girls turned to see their classmates, including Ingrid and Darius, looking over at them. Ellie rolled her eyes.
“Let them stare.” She replied, before kissing Mona again.
“I like your thinking.” Mona grinned. Once they broke apart again, she frowned. “Isn’t that your ex Riya?” She asked.
“Oh....uh-yeah but it-he’s not important.” Riya sighed. Mona raised an eyebrow. Ellie hadn’t gone too in detail of course, but Mona knew they had broken up. And on one of their previous girly nights with Ximena and Riya, the subject had been brought up, but was then forgotten as quickly as it was mentioned.
“You sure babe? Just remember if he tries anything, you just tell me or Ellie, and Ximena and I will sort it.” Riya giggled.
“I’ll uh, keep that in mind. Thanks Mona.” She smiled. Mona grinned back.
“No worries babe. Any friend of Ellie’s is a friend of mine.” She winked, before her phone pinged. “That’s Xi.” She announced. “She’s wondering if you girls want to come see a movie.”
“Hm. I don’t know...we do have math homework...” Ellie teased.
“Oh please, I can help you with that. We both know that I am an excellent teacher.” Mona smirked. “You up for it then?” The girls nod. “Well, hop in then ladies. Let’s go to our next adventure.”
