I wrote a tiny little thing. 🥺
That Place
Word Count: ~600
Wind Velez & Beau McGraw (platonic)
In which Wind accepts that he does not like the firm’s library anymore.
Rating T (mostly for brief language)
TRIGGER WARNINGS: mild depiction of a panic attack, idk if that needs a trigger warning, but just in case.
“Seriously, Wind, thank you so much for helping with this case. Beau said for the fifth time since they left Wind’s office. “There are so many files here, I think I could switch these boxes out with my weight set and still get mad gains. Besides,” Beau added, “I already had to cancel on Adam once. Rescheduling a first date for a second time is NOT the look I want.”
“Really, it's no problem!” Wind insisted. “Especially after you helped me with my last client, I swear I almost punched Morrison in the face.”
“Oh my God, he was a piece of work, wasn't he?” Beau laughed.
“Why are we headed this way anyway?” said Wind around a stack of boxes, “Your office is-”
“- A fucking MESS right now, and I do not have the energy to take care of that today.”
Wind chuckled understandingly, “Oh, I get that.”
“I thought we could work on this in the library.”
Oh. There. His heartbeat quickened. The hallway suddenly felt very small.
“I wish they served smoothies there…” Beau mused. Then he turned around, realizing Wind had frozen in their tracks. “You good, Dude?” Beau asked, sounding more curious than anything.
“Oh, yeah! Uhm, smoothies! No, yeah, for sure, uhm that would be amazing…” Wind said, putting on their best “I'm totally fine, and not at all not fine. Everything is fine, and things are great actually” performance. It seemed to satisfy him, because he just shrugged and kept walking.
*
“Whew!” Beau exclaimed a few minutes later, setting down his heavy stack of boxes with a thud. He started opening them, taking a massive pile of papers out.
The library. This is where… where…
“Gotta be careful,” Beau said, “Got a cardboard papercut last week. Totally gnarly. There was this box …”
She just needed to breathe. This would pass, she was just... being dramatic. It was fine. Just breathe. In and out.
“...and then, when I told Martin I needed to run home and change - ‘cause I didn't want to go to a meeting with blood on my shirt, right? Anyway so when I told…”
But it was so hot. Why was the library so hot? And since when were the lights in here so bright? And what was that buzzing, buzzing, buzzing?
“...I mean I spilled mustard on my shirt one time and he thinks I should keep a damn wardrobe in my office…”
And the air! Why wasn't there enough air?! Air was everywhere right? It was everywhere, it should be here, right? It should -
“Wind??” Gabe's voice cut through the buzzing.
No. It was Beau.
“Uhm, are you okay? You don't look so good.”
“I -” she tried to speak, but it came out as more of a croak. God, why were his tears so hot? And when had he even started crying, anyway? He looked at Beau whose face was a mix of concern and gentleness. Fuck, wrong move. The tears were really flowing now; Beau's genuine concern somehow providing them permission to fully break down. His breathing turned to gasps a he tried, and failed, to sooth himself.
“Fuck. Shit. I don’t have any ice cubes!” Exclaimed Beau.
What? That threw Wind off enough to gain back a semblance of composure. "I…” he tried to speak, but the words kept getting stuck, like they did any time he got upset. “I d-d-d-dont w-w-w, I - I - d-d-d mmhhmm!” a grunt of frustration was all else he could manage. He hated when this happened. Fine. He pointed to his phone and typed out, “I don't want to be here,” and all but shoved it at Beau.
As Beau read, his face quickly shifted from confusion to understanding. “Oooooh, oh I get it, okay. Damn, sorry Wind, I hadn't considered…” he trailed off as he helped Wind up from their seat, and started restacking the boxes, shoving the contents back inside haphazardly.
“Come on. Let’s get some fresh air.”
Wind let themself be led out of That Place by firm but gentle hands, completely abandoning their heavy weights on the table.
“Lo siento…” Wind eventually murmured as they walked, wrapping their arms around themself. Then they forced a laugh, as if that would somehow make the messy tears and labored breathing less visible, “I guess I don’t like it much in there.”
“Hey,” said Beau with a lopsided smile, “I wanted to grab a smoothie anyway!”
And at that, she did laugh.

The door to Kaycee's parent's home was barely opened when she jumped into Ethan's arms, wrapping her legs tightly around his waist and nearly knocking the wind out of him in the process.
"Offh!" He exclaimed, holding her close in his arms. "If that's the greeting I get when we've been separated for a few days, I may need to start spending more time away from home."
"Don’t you dare!” She scolded as she stepped back onto the ground.
“Aww,” her father, David, teased as he and Rose entered the foyer, arm in arm. “Rose, honey, remember when you used to greet me like that?”
“I still would,” she chuckled. “But I’d probably end up hurting us both.”
“I think you’d manage just fine,” Ethan assured as he greeted Rose.
“Her? Yes,” David said, extending his hand. “But me?”
“I know a great back surgeon in Boston,” Ethan grinned.
David pat Ethan on the back. “It’s great to see you again. Thanks for coming to help us.”
“Of course! It’s the least I can do.”
“Well, come to the kitchen,” Rose insisted. “Most things are packed away, but I still have some refreshments for you after that long trip!
“She wouldn’t be a respectable Italian mother if she didn’t,” Kaycee smiled. “I, of course, took after my father’s side of the family in that regard.”
“That’s OK,” Ethan replied, kissing Kaycee atop her head. “That’s why you have me!”
The family sat around the kitchen table, enjoying Rose’s food and conversation, when David brought the gathering to a halt. “Oh, crap. I just remembered that I have to return the tools I rented to the hardware store by seven or get charged an extra day.”
Rose peeked at her watch. “You still have three hours; there’s plenty of time.”
“Yes, but then I wouldn’t have time to take my future son-in-law to the Berwyn Tavern for a few drinks.”
“Daddy,” Kaycee grinned. “You don’t have to come up with excuses. If you want some guy time with my fiance, all you have to do is ask.”
“After the way, I saw you greet him? I was afraid you’d assault me if I suggested it!”
“Stop!” Kaycee laughed.  “You guys go and have fun.  Just bring him back to me in one piece, Dad!”
“You better believe it!” Dave insisted. “I need his help with the move tomorrow!”
Ethan leaned over to kiss Kaycee goodbye, whispering in her ear when he did. “This would be the perfect time to speak to your mother.”
“Gee,” she rolled her eyes. “You’re not the best diagnostician in the world for nothing.”
“OK, wiseass,” he replied with a smirk. “Text me and let me know how it goes.”
~~~~~
Kaycee and Rose went to the kitchen and began packing the few remaining items that were not boxed. As the hours passed, they discussed when they first moved to the house, Kaycee’s teenage years, and all the memories they had made there over time. The topics kept flowing, but Kaycee couldn’t work up the nerve to ask about the one she couldn’t get from her mind. But the clock eventually reminded her that her father and Ethan would be home soon. With a deep breath, she began to speak.
“Mom?” She spoke tentatively.
“Yes, dear,” Rose said, tossing a colander into a box. “What is it?”
“I… I hope you won’t be mad… because I assume you wanted to keep this private… but when I was packing up your….”
“Oh, my God!” Rose gasped. “Kaycee! Tell me you didn’t pack up the drawer next to your father’s side of the bed! Did you?”
“What? Wait… no! Iwww! Mom!”
“Mom, what? We’re both consenting adults, you know. There’s nothing wrong with it!”
“Great. So would you like me to give you all the details of my sex life with Ethan, then?”
“Only if you have good pointers,” Rose winked, and the two women began to laugh. “But I interrupted you. What were you about to ask, dear?”
“When I was going through old boxes in the garage… I found….” Kaycee hesitated.
Growing impatient, Rose widened her eyes and circled her wrist, encouraging her daughter to speak up. “You found?”
“I found pictures of you and… someone who wasn’t Dad.”
Her mother’s brow furrowed, knowing nothing untoward was to be found. Then a knowing look appeared.
“Ooooh.  Were these… older… pictures?”
“Yes! Ancient!”
“Hey, slow down there,” Rose scolded. “ There are no ancient pictures with me in them! Do you understand?”
“Of course not,” Kaycee blushed. “But there are pictures with you and… Jon Bon Jovi?”
Rose folded a dish towel and put it in the box, sealing it before she sat down and motioned for Kaycee to join her.
“Yes. There are pictures of Jon and me.”
“Oh. Jon? Jon! Wait, you’re on a first-name basis with Jon Bon Jovi?”
“Considering we dated for five months, yeah. He kind of insisted that I call him by his first name.”
Kaycee’s jaw fell open in astonishment. She attempted to speak, but all that came out were desperate little breaths with mere syllables clinging to them.
“You… you… you… date… you dated… you.”
“Relax,” Rose said, touching her daughter’s knee.  “Do you need me to get you a drink? I think I have some Amaretto that we haven’t packed yet….”
“No, I don’t need a drink, Mom.  What I need is… you dated Jon Bon Jovi? Like, one of the biggest rock stars of your time?”
“Don’t act so startled, young lady! Your Mom had it going on, you know!”
“I know,” Kaycee laughed, “You’ve still got it going on, but… but… how?”
“I was an Italian girl from Philly,” she shrugged. “My family summered at the Jersey Shore, and Jon’s from Jersey, Italian, too.”
“OK, there’s over a million Italians in New Jersey, Ma… you’re not explaining anything.”
“If you’d allow me to finish. Your Uncle Angelo and Aunt Irene were still dating; her family was distant cousins of the Bongiovis. They were supposed to attend a family wedding one weekend, but he got sick.  Since I was at the shore house, Irene asked me to tag along with her.  Jon was there, we met, and as they say, the rest is history.”
“Jesus, Ma! You bagged Jon Bon Jovi!”
Rose nudged her daughter with her elbow. “Impressive, right!”
“Holy shit! Why didn’t you ever tell me?”
“Have you told me about all the superstars you’ve slept with?”
“Yeah, well, Ethan is as celebrity as I got,” Kaycee laughed.  “I haven’t slept with Chris Evans and withheld from you! Wait, how old were you?”
“I was twenty-one, just shy of twenty-two.”
“But wait! Didn’t you start dating Dad when you were twenty-one.”
“I did,” Rose nodded.  “We dated for three months, and then we broke up.”
You! And Dad! You broke up?!?”
“For a bit, yes.  And that’s when I met Jon. It was one of the reasons Irene asked me to go to the wedding with her. She thought it would cheer me up.”
“And apparently it did….”
“Yeah,” Rose smiled. “It certainly did.”
“OK, Ma, can you not be so enthusiastic? Back to the story, so what happened next?”
“There’s not much to tell.  Jon and I dated for five months, and I even went on tour with him,” she said with pride.
“You? You did?”
“I did!”
“You’re telling me that Nonno, my grandfather, allowed you to go on tour with Bon Jovi?!”
“Allowed is a bit of a strong word.  I may have told him I was spending time at the shore with Irene’s family… and then he found a picture of me in a concert in Vegas.  He wasn’t too pleased.”
“I’ll bet!”
“It was for the best,” Rose shrugged. “At least he didn’t find out a week later. We would have been in Sydney.  Then he really would have flipped.”
“Oh, my God! Ma, you were… you were….”
“I was badass, dear!”
“Yeah, I guess… I guess you were, but why did you break up? How did you end up with Dad again?”
“Once I was back in Philly, and Jon was on the road, it was hard to maintain a relationship.  He had a few shows in the area, so we spent time together again.  But, just before that, I ran into your father down by Love Park.  After seeing your Dad, I realized there was still something there.  So, I talked to Jon, and it turned out he and his high-school sweetheart had just started talking again and… we knew it was time to end things.”
“His high school sweetheart? Didn’t they…”
“Got married.  Yep.  Dorothea, lovely girl.”
“You met her too?”
“She’s a third cousin.  Honey, we’re Italian.  We’re always connected somehow.”
“Oh, my God.  This is just so much to take in.  Does Dad know?”
“Does Dad know what?” Kaycee was startled as she heard her father’s voice bellow from down the hall.
Rose stood up and met her husband, resting her hand on his shoulder. “David, Kaycee found the pictures of Jon and me.”
“Oh, those,” David rolled his eyes.
“I still can’t believe it,” Kaycee breathed.  “Dad, did it bother you that Mom was dating a freaking rock star?”
“At the time? Sure, but you seem to be forgetting something.”
“What’s that?”
“Your Mom left Jon Bon Jovi… for me,” David blew a puff of air on his nails, then rubbed them proudly against his sweater.
“That is impressive. I mean, I love you, Dad, but we’re talking Jon Bon Jovi… at his peak!”
Ethan moved next to Kaycee, draped his arm around her shoulder, and smiled. “Fortunately for me, he’s no longer at his peak, or maybe I’d have something to worry about.”
“I don’t know,” she replied.  “I know he’s like sixty now, but the man is still hot!”
“Settle down, Kaycee,” Ethan grumbled.
“Oh, relax you!” she smiled. “You should be happy I’m into older men.”
“Hey! I’m not that old!”
“Wow, my mom dated Jon Bon Jovi. Suddenly I feel like a failure.”
“Kaycee, I’m standing right here….” Ethan reminded.
She looked at him with a wide grin, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed his cheek.
“And that is exactly where you belong,” she beamed.
“You know, enough talking.  We should go eat.  All our things are packed, so, David, why don’t we take the kids to Savona’s.”
“An excellent choice, Rose. And, as we’ve learned tonight, you always make the best choices.”
Kaycee couldn’t help but laugh.  “I tend to agree, Dad.  And not just because I wouldn’t be here if she hadn’t dumped the rock star.  But I think you’re the biggest star of all.”
David looked over at Ethan as Kaycee hugged him.  “See, this is why we stopped at one child. There’s no way I could have brainwashed two this well.”
“That’s enough,” Rose laughed.  “Let’s go eat!”
“Now there’s my Mom!” Kaycee giggled. “Are we happy?  Let’s eat.  Sad! Let’s eat.  Awkward family history about Rock stars? EAT!”
“What did you say earlier, sweetheart,” Rose smiled. “I wouldn’t be a respectable Italian mother if I didn’t.  Now, let's go before Savona’s closes!”
As they made their way to the car, Ethan tugged at Kaycee’s hand, holding her back for just a moment.
“Yes?” she asked.
“You’re not disappointed, are you?”
“About my Mom?”
“No.  About you.  You sure you didn’t need having a fling with a rock star off your bucket list?”
“Oh, but I did,” Kaycee stated, leaving Ethan’s eye bulging.
“You.. you did?” He sputtered.  “You don’t have to share, but uh… you certainly never mentioned that.”
“Well,” she purred, snuggling closer to him.  “I thought you knew? After all, you were my rockstar!”
A bright grin spread across Ethan’s face before he pulled her in for a kiss.  “You know, maybe I’m not as opposed to that roleplay idea you had as I organically thought.”
“Really!” she gushed.  “Can you play the guitar naked for me?”
“Maybe when we’re back in Boston.”
“Kids!” Rose hollered from outside. “Let’s go! If we miss Savona’s, we’ll be eating at Wawa’s.”
“Well, we can’t have that, Rose,” Ethan yelled from inside.  He started toward the door, but this time it was Kaycee who held him back.
“You know, I’m holding you to the rock star roleplay thing,” she teased.
“I’ll be sure to purchase a guitar.”
“Would you wear leather pants, too?”
“It’s negotiable,” he smiled, walking her to the door.
“And maybe a big, bushy wig?”
“Kaycee?”
“Yes.”
“You’re pushing it. Now, stop and get in the car before I tell your Dad about this.”
“Oh no!” she laughed, hopping inside. “Not until we’re officially married!”
WIP Whatever-Today-Is
I got tagged by @aces-and-angels to share some WIPs, so I'm gonna show off some some Blades ones, an Elementalists one, and a few It Lives ones I never finished and I'm very excited. I'm gonna tag @oh-so-youre-a-nerd because I know full well you have more wips
Blades
First up, a little Tyril Hurt/Comfort, set during Ch 8 and during that time when we were all headcanoning the experimentation and torture Valax did:
“I’m sorry,” Asterin mumbled.
“No, I am,” Tyril protested immediately. He offered his hand and visibly relaxed when Asterin immediately took it. "I didn't mean to scare you. That's the last thing I ever want."
“I know,” Asterin said. “Trust me, I know. It’s okay.”
“Stop saying it’s okay,” Tyril replied. He clutched Asterin’s hand in both of his. “Me scaring you like that is abhorrent. But I am worried about you. That’s an Amulet of Rotem isn’t it? It’s an illusion charm. I know things have changed but we’ve never hidden things from each other. I shudder to think you feel the need to hide things from me and lie to me now.”
"...you're right," Asterin confessed. He kept his voice hushed. He wasn't sure why. Maybe he thought if he could barely make out his own words they wouldn't be real. "It's an illusion charm. I got it from Nia, but she doesn't know what it's for. It makes me look how I did before Valax."
"Do you look different now?" Tyril asked, matching Asterin's tone. Asterin nodded. "How?"
Asterin tried to answer but the words were so quiet not even their shared elven senses could pick it up. He wasn't even convinced he said anything at all. How could he say something out loud? How could he think about it long enough to give voice to his pain? Tears pricked the corners of his eyes as his frustration grew until finally he squeezed his eyes shut and took the amulet off.
There was no flash of light like he was used to with magic but he surmised from Tyril's sharp intake of breath that everything was now on display. He didn’t even need to look. He’d spent enough time staring at the scars in horror before making the request of Nia upon finding her again.
The most subtle were the pinpricks dotted all over his wrists and neck. They could almost be mistaken for freckles. Sometimes he could even pretend that’s all they were. But those were the simple ones. Also scarring his wrists were jagged cuts, lined up one after the other, and on his palms as well. With the charm off Tyril would also be able to see the way his hands shook now, a tremor he still couldn’t explain nor remedy. He assumed it had to do with the damage to his hands and wrists. A harsh claw mark was emblazoned across his face, a hair’s breadth away from his eye.
But worst of all were the last two. On his chest were three precise lines, two that started near his soldiers and went inwards until they met and went straight down in a “Y” shape. And on his back were the burns. At least, he thought they were burns. He had no way of knowing for sure.
Next we've got one that has the working title of Aerin Retrieval, which I think says everything on its own
“Aerin.”
Aerin nearly jumped out of his skin. He turned around quickly, both because of the sudden voice and the person it belonged to. Sure enough a familiar elf was leaning against a nearby tree. Aerin had always thought the phrase ‘glaring daggers’ was ridiculous but it fit the expression he was receiving now.
“Tyril,” Aerin said slowly. “You found me.”
“It wasn’t difficult,” Tyril scoffed. “For a spy you are dreadful at covering your tracks.”
“I wasn’t a spy,” Aerin muttered petulantly.
“What would you call your betrayals then?”
“Why are you here Tyril?” Aerin sighed. “Drag me back to my cell? Kill me?”
“Oh I’m going to do much worse than that,” Tyril said.
He slowly advanced toward Aerin and despite everything Aerin had faced he still backed away from the elf. But Tyril had the longer stride so before Aerin could get far enough Tyril was right in front of him. He reached forward and Aerin tensed up.
“OW!”
Tyril completely ignored his complaint and continued dragging Aerin back the way Tyril had come. By. His. Ear. Aerin was forced to just stumble along after him.
-.-.-.-.-
“Where did you go?” Asterin wondered.
“I found this,” Tyril explained, and dragged a struggling form out of the shadows by their hood.
“Well I’ll be damned,” Mal chuckled.
“Aerin?” Asterin said as he got to his feet. Aerin didn’t meet Asterin’s eye, instead focusing very intently on brushing himself off. “Aerin!”
Aerin finally sighed and looked up. “Hello Asterin.”
“So it is you,” Asterin replied.
“Yes it is,” Aerin mumbled. “I’m sorry?”
Asterin didn’t say a thing. Instead he walked right up to Aerin and punched him in the face hard enough to send the prince sprawling into the dirt.
“Asterin!” Nia scolded.
“Don’t stop him, this is great,” Imtura laughed.
“I deserved that,” Aerin admitted.
“You deserve SO much worse,” Asterin growled.
Elementalists
This is a scene from my own personal lore, where Apollo (going by Eli at this point) finds out his foster parents erased his memories. It'll eventually be Griffin x MC but I didn't get far enough XD
“We’re so sorry this is how you found out…”
Eli could barely breathe. Tears burned his eyes as the words written on that letter played on repeat in his mind, completely drowning out Professor Athantis’ lecture.
Everything Atlas said was true. Eli had managed to swallow down the idea that he had a secret twin brother and his parents weren’t his real parents. He’d gotten past that. But that wasn’t all they lied about. They’d erased his memories. He didn’t get sent away until he was six. They erased six years of memories of his real parents and his twin. They let Eli go through his life lost and aimless, knowing those memories about his twin and magic would fill that missing piece. He was walking around with a void in his chest his parents own parents caused. No. Not his parents. His foster parents. Eli wasn’t even his name.
“Mr. Pierce!”
Eli looked up and saw the entire class and Professor Athantis looking right at him with varying degrees of concern, confusion, and irritation.
“You’re blinding the class,” Professor Athantis explained, their tone urgent but gentle. Eli blinked and glanced to the sconces along the wall lit with magical light and realized yes, the small orbs were much larger and brighter than normal. Eli cursed and took a deep breath, forcing the lights to dim back to their normal levels.
“Sorry, mx,” Eli muttered.
“Are you okay?” Shreya asked him. “I’ve been trying to talk to you for half the class.”
Eli opened his mouth to tell her but then paused when he realized he couldn’t. He couldn’t tell her what was going on without mentioning Atlas. Not only was this eating him up inside but he couldn’t even tell anyone about it! Atlas didn’t even know how to deal with his own emotions, much less Eli’s. Professor Swan would panic and defend his foster parents. And no one else could know about Atlas or his parents.
“I’m fine,” Eli ended up saying.
It Lives Anthology
A cute little idea I had of the Eclipse giving Shadow!Val some level of coherency and form again :)
“What do you want?” Lucas asked sharply, not bothering with any sort of pleasantries. “Why are you the one calling me instead of Connor or Ava?”
“Because it isn’t about the monsters and shit,” Noah answered. “It’s about Val.”
Lucas stood up so fast his chair fell backwards, causing his poor roommate, James, to startle. Lucas didn’t pay them any mind though, hurrying out of his dorm and the building as fast as he could, pausing behind the building where he wouldn’t be overheard. Noah would occasionally send him pictures or little messages from Val when Val asked him too but that was all. If Noah was calling him about Val then something happened, something bad. Lucas’s veins felt like they were filled with ice.
“What happened?” Lucas demanded. There were so many things it could be, spinning through his mind. Val disappeared, somehow he got hurt, he forgot them, or worst of all he’d somehow gotten corrupted and turned from their sweet little playful ghost into a monster like Redfield or Jane.
“Relax dude, it’s nothing bad,” Noah replied.
“Forgive me if I don’t believe you,” Lucas snapped.
“Okay I deserve that,” Noah muttered and Lucas resisted the urge to verbalize his agreement. “I called instead of texting because I figured you’d want to see this and you only have tonight.”
“What is it?”
“You know how tonight’s that lunar eclipse?” Noah asked.
“Yes, it’s the only total lunar eclipse over Westchester in a hundred years,” Lucas replied. “I don’t think you’re calling about astronomy.”
“No, I’m calling because of what it means for the Power,” Noah confirmed. “Or magic. Or theyre the same thing, I don’t fucking know. Point is, Ava called and said the lunar eclipse is a time of clarity for spirits, when their humanity and shit becomes stronger. She called to tell Karter because of the shit going on with his sister and she said it only applied to human spirits so we didn’t think it applied to Val but…”
“He’s coherent?” Lucas’s eyes widened.
“As coherent as he can be,” Noah answered. “He’s still a little jumbled but he’s talking in full sentences and…and he’s singing again.”
This is a hypothetical scenario I came up with during ILW's release where the only way to close the breach would be for all people with Power in them to be gone too, meaning all three It Lives MCs
It was supposed to be over.
Matthias was defeated, Adrian and Marianthe were dead. The witches were free. The blood moon ritual was stopped and the horrors were cured. The Power was purified. It was all over. It was supposed to be over. They were supposed to get to go home, to live. Yet Castor found themself staring at the spirit of Loha, her words taking up all their thoughts.
“No,” Val shook his head, his voice shaking but Cas couldn’t tell if it was rage or fear. “No, no, I’m not-, no. You’re lying or you’re wrong.”
“I’m afraid not,” Loha seemed to have a bit of sympathy in her face as she looked at Val. “The breach has to be closed or this will happen again. There will be nothing and no one to stop it, not even a purifying anchor.”
“This is sick,” Leon snarled. Him and Val were the only ones in the cave with Cas, the only two that could make it far enough in. “You, you did this to me! I didn’t get a fucking choice! It’s your fault I have to do this!”
“I can’t,” Val’s hands fisted in his hair. “I can’t do this, not again, no.”
“It is what needs to happen,” Loha replied to Leon, ignoring Val but Castor came to his side and wrapped an arm around him. He didn’t even seem to notice. “The three of you are different from everyone else. Everyone has a connection to the Power, though some connections are stronger which is what gives them their powers. But you, each of you have a piece of the Power within you. As long as it’s there the Power can never truly be sealed away.”
“NO!” Val looked up, his face twisted with rage and he took a step forward that shook the entire cave. His voice wasn’t quite his, it echoed before it even reached the cave walls. Behind it was a chorus of whispers that made Castor shiver. “I’m not doing this again! I sacrificed myself once and I don’t regret but I am NOT letting it happen again and I am not letting Leon and Castor die!”
Last one, the start of Abel proposing to Castor <3
Castor was always colorful. Everything about them was so vibrant and so full of life. Being around them made the world seem brighter, from the green of life to the blue of the sky. It was in their smile and their laugh and of course in their eyes. It was absolutely beautiful, how they made the world so much more wonderful for everyone around them. For most it was their presence and their kindness and humor, but for Abel it was their love.
And among all those colors, the most Castor of them all was gold. The cyan of the Power was there, of course, in their powers and their eyes and Abel wouldn’t trade that for the world. But their soul was gold. It was bold like jewelry, it sparkled in their eyes, it glowed in their smile. It was warm like the sunlight lighting their face, turning their skin a warm brown.
Right now their eyes were closed and for once their muscles were relaxed. They breathed evenly as the golden light from the sunrise shone on their face and Abel knew if their eyes opened they’d reflect that light like stars. But he was content to watch them sleep, happy to see the softer side of his bright lover. For it was in these moments that somehow Abel loved them even more, because while Castor lit up the world of everyone else this was something only Abel got to see. The part of them that was soft and vulnerable was for him and him alone.
Castor trusted him and loved him, they took care of him and let him take care of them. It was the kind of thing he’d always wanted with someone and Castor not only made his dreams come true but surpassed them. It was why Abel wanted to spend the rest of his life with them. He always knew he wanted to but in these soft, small moments was when he felt it the strongest.
Castor let out a small yawn and shifted, causing a twist of hair to fall in front of their face. Abel carefully reached out to tuck it behind their hair and Castor leaned into his hand without even waking up. Abel knew he must look ridiculous smiling as big as he was but he didn’t care. Castor made a small hum and their eyes blinked open, brown and cyan finding him and causing a smile of their own to appear on Castor’s face.
“Hi,” They said, their voice barely above a whisper.
“Hi,” Abel replied, his voice just as quiet. “Did you sleep well?”
“Well with such a handsome man in my bed how can I not?” Castor leaned up and pressed a small kiss to Abel’s lips. It was barely a peck but it still warmed Abel from the inside out. This was what he wanted. Mornings like this where it was like the world faded away and that light of Castor’s was all his. Mornings and nights were there was no Power, no monsters, no ghosts, no classes or jobs, just Castor and Abel getting to be Castor and Abel. No more, no less.
“Can I ask you something?” Abel found himself asking. For a moment he panicked. He knew where his train of thought was going and he had an entire plan in place. But as Castor’s curious eyes met his, he thought damn the plan. He reached up and trailed his fingers along Castor’s cheek. Castor opened their mouth and Abel rolled his eyes fondly. “And do not say ‘you just did’.”
“Well, way to take all the fun out of it,” Cas pouted. “Fine, go ahead. What do you want to ask?”
Abel just smiled and rolled out of the bed leaving Castor laying there very very very confused.
Alex was standing in front of a mirror, putting the finishing touches on her make-up before getting ready for her date with Nik. She stopped as she heard someone with keys, so she followed the sound and entered the hallway. There, Nik just entered his apartment.
"Hey, Nik, you're back! How do I look?", she asked and welcomed him with a gentle hug.
Nik, on the other hand was in deep thoughts, looked away and didn't even returned the hug which made Alex worry as she realized. It's a year now since the two of them were living together as a couple. They know eachother very well. Something is disturbing him, she's definitly sure. Carefully Alex released him from the hug and took a few steps backwards to analyze him. Clenched jaw, staring at the floor, knitted eyebrows, a balled fist,... Yes, his body language revealed it all.
"Hey, Nik, everything alright?"
"Hmm, yeah.", he answered without meeting her chocolate-brown eyes.
"You sure, Nik?"
"Hmm?", he finally looked at her.
"How was the meeting?"
"Oh that... Believe me, I wanted to stab everyone. I wanted to stab them all!!", he angrily replied.
"I'm glad you didn't cause you would've gotten blood all over yourself and we have dinner reservations at 7."
"I love you for supporting me."
"I love you too, Nik.", she giggled which made Nik smile a little. He took a closer look at her.
"Hey, you look beautiful tonight."
"Thanks, Nik. You should get ready too, you know? I can't have a dinner date without my main course which is you, Nik.", she winked at him.
"Someone's in a good mood here."
Raising her eyebrow, Alex moved closer to him and rested her arms on his chest while Nik pulled her even closer. Both looking deeply at eachother's eyes.
"Well, someone has to keep the good mood up when the other one had a bad day.", she answered in a seducive tone and smiled.
"And I like that, rookie. Hey, how about we cancel our dinner reservations and hang out tonight in the bedroom?"
Alex playfully pushed herself away from Nik and turned disappointedly away from him which made Nik wonder.
"Definitly not, Nik. We're going out tonight. I mean when was the last time we went out together on a date? Hmm?", she argued.
"Okay, okay, sorry. I was just enjoying this little moment here."
"Whatever, now hurry and get ready for our date. I'll give you five minutes to get ready. Don't take long.", she commanded which made him chuckle because she's definitly the one who takes longer to get ready than he.
Like she said, Nik entered the bedroom to change clothes without closing the door, hoping Alex would change her mind and spend the night with him in their bedroom. But it didn't happened. After a few minutes, the man entered the hallway where she was waiting for him. But Nik noticed that she was drown in deep thoughts.
"Hey, what's up? Penny for your thoughts?"
"Nothing, actually. It's just you looked so stressed before you entered the apartment, so I hope the date will let you unwind a little. I don't like when you're stressed. Or should we cancel...?"
"No, I'm fine. It's okay. Don't cancel the date, you already dressed up and were so excited for it. I don't want our night to be ruined because of that stupid meeting I had."
"And aren't you excited for our date as much as I am?"
"Of course I am. Spending some time with my beloved rookie is exactly what I need. I need you. Forever. I need you forever. Only you, Alex. I love you. You're my everything.", he leaned closer and both drifted into a passionate kiss. A few seconds later, they parted to look into eachother's eyes.
"And you should know that I love you too Nik. By the way you look great in this black suit." She smiles shyly. Which made his heart beat stronger. For him Alex is such a beautiful person, from the outside and on the inside.
"Hey, Nik, before we enjoy tonight... Care to share what happened before?", she asked him, but he was silent. No answer came out of his mouth. The sadness in his gray eyes told her everything, so she decided to ask him again. Alex wanted to know what bothered her boyfriend.
"Nik, how was the meeting? Is everything alright? You don't have to tell me, you know? It's just..."
"It's okay, I don't mind sharing with you. But you wouldn't like it. It's just... the vampires from New York. I went to Ivy's, so she could connect me with their clan leaders via video call. I'm worried cuz things don't look good there. Soon, the vampires might have a war and... and... Katherine and I might have to join the war too."
"What?!! Why??!! What do nighthunters have to do with vampires? And New York,... that's where Kristin lives too!!! Why didn't you told me before?!! Nik, tell me everything now!", Alex panicked, took a few steps backwards as tears welled up. Gently, Nik cupped her face and leaned into a soft hug to calm her down.
"Hey, hey, relax, calm down! We don't even know for sure if the vampires will have war, okay. Relax, everything will be fine. It's just a theory. Wanna head out now?", he tried to make her feel better and to skip the topic, but Alex noticed.
Even Nik couldn't hide his true feelings, he felt uncomfortable, stressed and scared of what would happen next. Yes, Nik Ryder and scared, because joining a supernatural war is a huge thing where everyone would be concerned. In an unknown place surrounded by unknown dangers and dangerous creatures, away from home, family and friends. For Nik, away from his true love, his rookie, his Alex.
"Nik, we're not going anywhere tonight until you don't tell me everything.", she lightly pushed him away and glared at him.
"Alex, no need to..."
"Nik!!!"
"Well, I... Okay, fine. As a nighthunter, my job is to protect the human world and supernatural world, bring them both into order and serve justice, so that's why Katherine and I have to be there when the vampires will have war, to protect the humans and the innocent ones. And about the video call I just had, I actually called that damn clan leader to complain about their system cuz the NOLA vampires are drivin' me nuts. It's been a few days now and they're committing crimes and murder in our city. The numbers are increasing every week and someone has to do something. But guess what, the vamps from NY are too busy to care of what happens here, because they have their own problems to deal with.", he disappointedly explained to her.
"Wait...Wait, let me get this straight. Soooooo, when you entered the apartment you had an online meeting via video call at Ivy's place and were talking about stabbing a vampire? Huh, mentioning to stab someone during a video call who's not even here in New Orleans?", she asked. He scratched the back of his head and nodded.
Without getting ready for it, Alex crashed into Nik for a hug. He wrapped his arms around her, rested his head lightly on hers and pulled her closer. Her body shaking while silently crying.
"I'm sorry, rook. I'm sorry for ruining our date tonight."
"Nik... Oh, Nik! Why? Can't you decline? We're talking about war, not even any war, a supernatural war. Please, don't... Don't leave me."
"Hey, it's not even decided about if I as a nighthunter have to go. Okay, relax. Maybe I don't have to.", he gave her and himself hope. Everyone knows that he's one of the best nighthunters, so it could be more likely that the best ones will be chosen for this big event, but he doesn't want to think about it or sadden Alex even more.
"Can't... can't you... can't you reject?"
"I have sworn an oath to protect anyone who needs help. The humans will need safety if the vampires try to harm them. Look, the good thing is that most of the vampire clan leaders are on our side and are against war. Everything will be fine. Alex, please, stop crying. It won't change anything if you spill your tears for me."
"Of course, I will spill every tear for you because I love you and I can't live without you. Try to understand, I just can't!!!!", she screamed at the top of her lungs and felt the salty taste of her tears streaming in her mouth as they were endless waterfalls. When she pulled herself away from him, Nik was longing for her.
"No, no, stop... Please stop, I... I don't want this either, but I have no choice. I don't want to think about this right now, please. Please, let us unwind. Only you and me, together. I...", he quickly pulled her closer and his crashed his lips on hers. They kissed each other with pleasure, passion and full of desire. Not wanting anything to come in between. They were afraid to part ways, to lose each other. They were always one. Always.
While kissing both tiptoe around to the other side into the bedroom. Completly lost into the sensation, Nik's hands on her body, his lips now on throat while she lays her hands on his chest which slowly moving lower and lower.
"Are you sure, Alex? Don't let your sadness control you."
"Oh Nik, I love you and all I need is you. Only you. I need you now, Nik."
"Damn, I love you too. You're my queen, my life, my everything and there's no life without you... I can't live without you, I will die.", he confessed and crystalline tears finally filled his eyes too.
"Don't you dare to die, understood? If you die, I will die with you. So promise me, that you won't die, my soldier."
"I promise, I swear on... The hell with that. I swear on us, rook."
"What? On us? Why swear on us?"
"Yeah, I swear on us. Because there isn't anything I believe in more than us and our true love. You and me, forever. Nothing will seperate us, my love."
To be continued...
A Birthday to Remember
Paring: Gaius Augustine, Ade Augsttine (BB MC) and Jake Tweneboah (OH MC)
Summary: Ade spends her birthday with her favourite people - birthday Gift for @aesthetic-aag
Taglist - @aesthetic-aag @princess-geek @secretaryunpaid
Ade's birthday was approaching, and this year, she wanted it to be special. She had spent the last few weeks planning every detail, from the venue to the guest list. Her boyfriend, Gaius, and her best friend, Jake, were both excited to celebrate with her.
As the day drew nearer, Ade couldn't contain her excitement. She had always loved birthdays, not just for the gifts and attention, but for the opportunity to gather her loved ones and create lasting memories.
On the morning of her birthday, Ade woke up to a room filled with balloons and streamers, courtesy of Gaius. He had snuck out early to decorate while she was still asleep. Ade's heart swelled with love as she took in the sight, feeling grateful to have such a thoughtful partner.
Gaius had also prepared breakfast in bed for Ade, complete with her favorite pancakes and freshly squeezed orange juice. They spent the morning lounging in bed, savoring each other's company and sharing stories from their past birthdays.
Later that afternoon, Ade and Gaius met up with Jake at their favorite café for lunch. Jake had brought a homemade birthday cake, decorated with Ade's favorite flowers. They laughed and reminisced about old times, enjoying each other's company over delicious food and drinks.
Ade was still disappointed that Kamilah and Adrian couldn't be with her on her special day. She know that their work was really important to them. They had not forgotten that it was her special day as they had sent birthday texts earlier that day.
After lunch, Ade suggested they take a stroll through the nearby park. It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for a leisurely walk. They wandered along the winding paths, chatting and admiring the scenery.
As they reached a secluded spot by the lake, Gaius pulled Ade aside and handed her a small gift-wrapped box. Inside was a delicate necklace with a pendant shaped like a heart. Ade's eyes filled with tears as she hugged Gaius tightly, overwhelmed by his thoughtfulness.
Jake, ever the jokester, pretended to be offended by the display of affection. "Hey, what about me?" he teased, holding out a gift bag of his own. Ade eagerly opened it to find a collection of her favorite books, each one carefully chosen by Jake.
"You know me so well," Ade said, giving Jake a grateful hug. "Thank you for always being there for me."
The rest of the afternoon was spent lounging by the lake, soaking up the sun and enjoying each other's company. As the day turned into evening, they made their way to a fancy restaurant for dinner.
The restaurant was adorned with twinkling lights and candles, creating a romantic ambiance. Ade felt like she was in a fairy tale as they were seated at a private table overlooking the city skyline.
Over a delicious meal, they toasted to Ade's birthday and the beautiful friendship they shared. Ade couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the two most important people in her life.
After dinner, they headed back to Ade and Gaius's apartment for dessert. Gaius had prepared Ade's favorite chocolate cake, and Jake had brought along a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
They sat around the table, laughing and sharing stories late into the night. Ade felt surrounded by love and happiness, grateful for the wonderful people in her life who had made her birthday so special.
As the clock struck midnight, Ade made a wish and blew out the candles on her cake. She wished for many more years of love, laughter, and friendship with Gaius and Jake by her side.
As they hugged each other tightly, Ade couldn't help but feel like the luckiest person in the world. This birthday would be one she would never forget, thanks to the love and kindness of her boyfriend and best friend
Late Night Talking
Summary: Jill opens up about her background to Ethan. It takes place in OH1 Ch10.
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x MC (Jillian Valentine).
Word Count: 2356 words.
A/N: In other words, Ethan likes Boston Jillian too. This was inspired by @jamespotterthefirst's book 1 replay, and I felt like I had to add to one of my favorite moments in the series. Also, huge shoutout to the lovely @bex-la-get for reading it first and encouraging me to write again.
Tumblr media
“What kind of doctor do you see yourself being in ten years?”
The question took her by surprise, and Jillian moved to refill her glass of wine as she thought about her answer. She closed her eyes for a few seconds, simply enjoying the Miami night’s soft breeze that the waves of the Atlantic brought, while Ethan stared at her with genuine curiosity, taking his time to study every crease on her face in a dazzle.
“If I tell you this…” Jillian started, finally looking back at him, “Can you promise me to keep this between us? To not tell anyone back at Boston?”
“Did you do something illegal?” Ethan teased, earning a soft snort from her.
“No.”
“Then I won’t say anything. You can trust me.”
It was a simple statement, but that meant so much for both of them. Ethan had trusted her with the whole Naveen situation, and he wanted nothing more than for Jill to trust him as much as he did her.
“Okay, here goes nothing.” she took a huge gulp of wine before focusing her gaze on his azure eyes, and she shook her head in amusement, “I’m sure you’ve already deciphered some of my life.”
“Wasn’t hard to figure out.” he shrugged, “Back at the baseball game, you excluded yourself when you made a statement about the debt interns have to deal with, which made me suspect that you come from a wealthy family that paid your medical school tuition in full, hence why you’re not in debt. You also mentioned that your family prepared you to deal with health representatives, among other nuisances. And lastly, for the past half hour, you’ve been slightly scrunching up your nose every time you take a sip of the wine, probably because you’re used to finer options.”
“This is good wine.” Jill denied.
“No, this is regular wine. And you know it.”
“Maybe I’m just a wine snob.”
“Oh, that’s for sure. But I doubt that’s a secret that you want kept from the people in Boston.”
Jill let out a breathy chuckle and took another sip of her glass, trying hard not to scrunch her nose this time, “I hate that you’re so good at reading me.”
She hadn’t said Ethan was good at reading people; she’d said he was good at reading her. For some reason, that knowledge made him unbelievably happy.
“You’re not wrong, though.” Jillian admitted, looking away vulnerably as she finally admitted what she had been hiding from everyone for years, “I do come from a wealthy family.”
“And that’s what you don’t want to be known?”
“When people find out you come from money, they start treating you differently.” she explained, fidgeting with her fingers, “Suddenly who you are as a person doesn’t matter as much as what you have or what you can get. I don’t want my friends to think differently of me… I don’t want anyone to think differently of me. But it’s more than just that.”
“Your parents are doctors…” Ethan guessed.
“Yes, veterinarians.”
It took Ethan a few seconds to put two and two together, and realization dawned on his face, “Your family are the owners of The Valentine Clinic. Which means you’re also–”
“Senator Westbrook’s niece, yes. Mom’s side of the family.” she chuckled bitterly, looking down at the wine in the swirling glass.
“Most people would gloat about that.”
“The thing is… I like Boston Jillian.”
“Excuse me?” he frowned in confusion.
“I like the person I am, the person I’ve become since I moved to Boston.” she opened up, taking a shuddering breath, and Ethan listened attentively, “My life in New York was… complicated. The whole socialite environment is draining, and overwhelming. Back home, it never mattered what I wanted for my life or who I was; all that mattered was my reputation and what people thought about me, what people made of me. Everything about my life was scrutinized and could potentially be turned into a scandal. But it was okay because I was a Valentine, and that’s all that mattered to people. I didn’t get to bemy own self, I was the person I was expected to be. But it gets worse… because being that relevant and being surrounded by that kind of people, that ambiance can really change someone. It starts with the feeling of superiority, thinking other people are beneath you, and feeling entitled to anything. And that influence, that much power on a teenager is dangerous. But as long as you stay relevant and you have money, you can get away with almost anything. And that’s just wrong.” when Jill looked back at him, Ethan noticed her whiskey eyes brimming with a couple of tears, which he gently wiped, causing her cheeks to tint with a soft pink color, and he pulled his hand back in embarrassment, “So, I hate New York Jillian. I’m not proud of the person I was back then. And I know I was just a teenager doing what she needed to survive, but I still hate it. I never felt like myself. I was Jillian Valentine, teenage socialite, Doctors Matthew and Haley Valentine’s daughter, the Senator’s niece, but I was never me, not really. And the pressure and expectations from being a Valentine were too much.”
And with her declaration, more pieces of the puzzle fell in place in Ethan’s mind. Now he understood where many of her actions came from. And he was mesmerized at the person he was discovering her to be.
“Jillian, I’m sure your friends wouldn’t blame you. I don’t blame you. All of it would be too much on anyone. And like you said, you were a child.” Ethan reassured her and placed a warm hand over her arm, ignoring the jolts of electricity that her contact brought.
“When I moved away for college, I realized the magnitude of the bubble I lived in all my life. I realized that the real world wasn’t like that, that life didn’t have to be like that. So I tried to put as much distance between me and them, tried to stop being a Valentine, or at least what that entailed in Manhattan’s society. I left New York behind, and Boston was my fresh start.”
“That’s when you applied to medical school.”
“Which was a mistake in their eyes.” she sighed sadly, and Ethan stayed silent, urging her to continue, “For my family, there are only two paths; law school, like the rest of the Westbrooks, or vet school, like every Valentine.”
“And you chose med school.” Ethan stared in amazement.
“I worked at the Clinic as a teenager, and I fell in love with medicine. I knew it was what I wanted. And then I stumbled upon your work.” Jill grinned breathtakingly, making his heart skip a beat, “And I realized there was another way, that I could pursue medicine and step out of my family’s shadow. So yes, I applied, thanks to you. My family was furious with me, but they weren’t going to deter me; I knew this was the path for me. Still, I’m grateful that my parents paid my tuition even when they didn’t approve. After that, I pretty much cut ties with them. I promised to not use my trustfund unless it was an emergency, and started working as a waitress to survive.”
She had stated that previous times, how he had been an inspiration for her to go to medical school and become a doctor. He had heard that before, from several people. It wasn’t an uncommon statement in his life. Though, most people did it to kiss ass and gain his favor; Jillian didn’t. Realizing the extent of the role his life’s work played in Jill’s decision left him speechless. Now he could see in her eyes how much his work meant to her.
He nodded, trying to keep her talking, desperate to find out more about her, “You left that life behind. That’s why you don’t want people to find out about your life in New York, because it’s not you.”
“Exactly. I love my parents and my siblings, but being a Valentine was hard. I don’t want to go back to that, ever. Though, even if I tried to put as much distance between us, there’s something I know for sure.”
“Which is?”
“I want to be the kind of doctor that my parents are.” she rounded up, going back to the original question, and let out a laugh of disbelief, like she couldn’t believe what she was saying either, “They’re amazing doctors. Even my older brother and sister. They cure major diseases every day, even contributing with research of their own.”
“Who says you can’t do that?”
“Do you remember my struggle the first few months? And even now as the first-ranking intern, I feel like I’ll drown at any second.”
“But you’ve already got the persistence down.” Ethan insisted, “And that counts for much more than you think.”
“Really?”
“I’ve never seen you give up on anything yet. That’s important.” he scooted closer to her almost automatically.
“Maybe it’s a family trait.” she shrugged, looking back at the waves, “And it’s different, they have their own hospital, so they make the rules, it’s easier for them, but I’ve seen them do so much good. I’d be insane to not want to be like them.”
“What would you say is your main goal?” he enquired, his undivided attention on her.
“I have many, but I think the main one would be to make a difference in patient care.”
“More than you do now?”
“I’m only an intern.” Jill pointed out, “I do barely anything now.”
“That’s not true.” Ethan noticed he still had his hand on her arm, but instead of removing it, he gently ran his fingers across her smooth skin, making her sigh in content, “I’ve seen how hard you work for your patients. Even if they don’t always value it, you do make a difference.”
“But not enough. I helped one uninsured patient receive care, but I can’t find loopholes for everyone.” her frustration then turned to determination, “The entire system needs to change, and I want to be a part of it.”
“And I have no doubt you’ll find a way.” Ethan smiled softly, “That’s the same drive I saw in your application.”
Jill’s cheeks flared up once again, but she tried to downplay her embarrassment with a teasing remark, “Enough drive to lead the diagnostics team?”
Ethan let out a few chuckles, shaking his head in amusement, “It’s less fun than it looks, I promise you that. I wanted this job until the exact second Naveen told me it was mine.”
Her eyes softened at the mention of the older doctor, “When Doctor Banerji is well again, I’m sure you’ll feel differently.”
“Perhaps. And perhaps one day, it’ll be yours to lead.”
“Are you serious?”
“I did say perhaps.”
“So you do think I’m the future of medicine.”
Ethan couldn’t help the laugh that escaped past his lips, “I remember telling you not to let it get to your head.”
“Too late.” Jill grinned, before turning serious once again, “It just seems like… the higher I aspire, the more I stand to lose.”
“I… certainly understand that.”
The attending got up from his seat and went to the balcony railing, leaning on it with his wine glass in both hands. Jill followed him slowly, brushing his side slightly as she settled beside him.
“What you saw tonight, that’s not me.” it was Ethan’s turn to open up, and he gazed out at the dark sea pensively, “I don’t gamble… on anything. I don’t take chances. Medicine is an assembly of facts leading to a conclusion. Once you know the rules and understand the diseases you’re working with, the risk should be minimal. Your decisions are informed, and you choose the safest path. But that card game… I’ve never done anything like that before.”
“I don’t know. It seemed like a pretty well-informed decision to me. A decision you made based on your people-reading skills.”
“Maybe, but risking Naveen’s treatment on a game? Having to hope I’d judged Declan’s character well enough to risk losing instead of using a winning hand? There were too many variables, I could have lost everything”
“But you didn’t, and you were right. Your risk paid off.”
“It did… and I’m beginning to realize…” Ethan turned to look at Jillian with an intensity that was foreign for both of them, “There are some things that are worth any risk.”
She stared up, meeting his eyes, and the look she gave him was enough to make him forget about everything other than the woman before him. A look that made his heart flutter and his lips to part as he took a sharp intake of breath, while staring at her with total admiration, unable to look away. The golden specs dancing in her caramel eyes seemed even brighter under the moonlight. Ethan glanced at her redenned lips hesitantly but with undenying desire, and noticed her gaze fixed on his own mouth. He leaned closer, and their breaths mixed as both of them breathed heavily.
Jill’s heart started to race and thump loudly against her ribcage at the close proximity. And when she leaned closer to him as well, Ethan’s breath hitched in his throat, and his own heart felt like stopping. Holding his deep blue gaze, Jillian reached tentatively out and touched his cheek tenderly.
“Jill, I…”
“I know.” she whispered, not wanting to disrupt the magical atmosphere.
Ethan closed his eyes and leaned into her touch, his stubble fresh and rough beneath her fingertips. Their noses bumped, and both of their bodies filled with excitement, nerves and exhilaration. Ethan opened his eyes once again to stare at hers.
It was as if a dam broke within him.
In one strong move, he looped his arm around her waist, pulling Jill close until their bodies were flushed together. And after what felt like an eternity of waiting, Ethan hungrily captured her lips, finally kissing her.
see i love jily but tbh i'm going to go with how choices by messermoon on ao3 goes. yes it's painful. jily is healthy and so good, jegulus is messy and also so good. so for me they just exist in the same universe.
Looking through your Ao3 bookmarks and seeing that little “This has been deleted, sorry!” is like finding a gravestone, but the writing’s too worn down to read what it was standing for anymore.
What were you, Bookmark #336... What stories did you tell? Which words were it that once left a mark on my soul?  *touches my laptop screen like it’s text from an ancient ruin*
Val's Resurrection (Part One)
Word Count: 2,311
Lucas Thomas x M!MC (Valen)
Part 2, Part 3, Part 4
A/N: Okay this is different than my other Choices fic. Number one, this one isn't really ambiguous, you can't really put your MCs in this, it's really fully my characters and headcanons, with Val as my ILITW MC and Karter as my ILW MC. Number two, this is an It Lives In the Woods fanfic, but also a fic for It Lives Within by the @itlivesproject. This isn't even really speculation of what's gonna happen, just my own ideas, but I freaking love that game and I'm living for each release and the interactions between ghost ILITW MC and the other ILITW characters make me lose my mind so now you have this. I don't think it'll do too well but I love it so, enjoy!
Terra, audi me. Aqua, audi me. Ignis, audi me. Caeli, audi me. Virtus, audi me. Spiritus, audi me. Redde quod datum est, ei maledictum frange!
The words echoed, both in Val’s head and off the walls around him. He didn’t know what they meant…should he? Sometimes he’d get confused by what people said, the words just floating through whatever it was that made up his mind. But he never knew which things he should or shouldn’t know. These things, he was pretty sure he shouldn’t know, but he just couldn’t be sure anymore. He was lucky he remembered the words at all.
He opened his eyes slowly, a little unsettled but also unsurprised to find himself in the cavern beneath those all-too-familiar ruins. Val found himself here fairly often, on the days where his thoughts weren’t quite coherent and he just wandered the forest. Was that what happened? He hated that he couldn’t remember but he could feel the memory dangling right there, taunting him. It was a familiar feeling. Though he wasn’t usually bothered by it except that it hurt his friends when he couldn’t remember. This time it bothered him. At least his thoughts were having a good day, nice and solid and coherent.
Val went to float up through the ceiling of the cavern and back to the cabin only to find he barely moved. Since when was he…heavy? He had to put in effort to move himself upwards even a little bit, which caused a sharp pain through his head and on some faded instinct he brought his hand to his head and groaned, letting his fingers dishevel the purple locks, ignoring the ones he could feel fall onto his forehead.
Wait.
Hair.
He had hair.
He scrambled to grab the strands and held them in front of his face. He could feel them. They were a little greasy, a bit damp, but soft, the same shocking light purple as he’d dyed them for senior year. But his thoughts moved on in a split second because his hand. He dropped his hair and looked at his hands, turning them over and running his fingers over them like he’d never seen them before.
A little pale but tanner than they were for years. A small scar on the outside of his right wrist that was the result of an incident involving Dan and a letter opener. Scars on his knuckles, both old and all too fresh. Blood too, but dried, probably from resplitting his knuckles. Nails jagged and bitten, with only the barest remnants of black nail polish on them. His hands looked like shit but God they were hands. Flesh and scars and veins and warmth, not shadow or smoke.
How was this, how was this possible? Was this some sort of dream? He didn’t sleep, nor dream. Memories were never this clear and he didn’t remember anything about the memory.
Come on, Val, think! It’s like a quiz, you’re good at Noah’s quizzes! What were you doing?
He remembered Noah, and Connor. They had a cabin, they hunted monsters. And Val helped, he kept them safe. Ava visited a lot, she had superpowers now. Lucas did too, and Dan! So did Andy and Stacy and Lily! Jocelyn came and Val didn’t like her but she was helping keep them safe and now she was his friend. Abel too. Then, then new people. Karter, Amalia, Lincoln. They helped, they saved they town, and they were trying to do something else…save Val? Right! His friends had been trying to save him and then the new people started helping!
Karter, he was strong, Val could feel it. He remembered a blue green light, and then the latin. He remembered Noah determined, Lucas hopeful, all of them working together and passionate about something. Saving Val? But how could they save him? He was confused a lot, yeah, but he wasn’t really there to save. He didn’t even have a…a body…
Holy shit.
His hands, his hair.
He felt pain, he felt his hair. He could feel the stone under him.
He felt heavy.
He didn’t float up a little bit like he thought.
He sat up.
His chest was rising and falling, not in the sense of shifting shadow or displaced smoke. It was like he…like he was…
Like he was breathing.
His hands flew to his chest and he tried to take a deep breath. And he did. He took a breath! He fucking breathed!
Val heard water dripping and turned toward it, crawling to the nearest puddle and leaning over it as much as he could without falling in it. His reflection.
His face.
He saw his face.
Val let out a noise between a sob and a laugh as he brought his hands up to feel his face and watched his reflection do the same. He traced his sharp cheekbones, the dark circles and bags under his eyes, the freckles on his nose, his cracked and split lips, the dried blood on the side of his face from the cut on his forehead. It wasn’t bleeding anymore, he got it from hitting his head on the rocks when Jane threw him. He looked like absolute shit.
He’d never been happier to see his reflection.
Tears streamed down his cheeks and he didn’t even bother trying to stop them. He could feel them land on his dress pants, still in that suit from Homecoming.
And the best part of this? It wasn’t his body, or being able to feel again, or being alive again.
It was that he could remember.
He could remember Homecoming, not just that it was why he was wearing this suit. Not just the pain that night, either.
Val remembered stressing between two suits and texting with Stacy to get her opinion. She picked the gold one he settled on, but he was the one that remembered the yellow flowers in the garden and put it in his pocket. It wasn’t there anymore, lost in the night’s events, but he remembered putting it there. He remembered Lucas asking him to dinner, he remembered Lucas teasing him for just getting pasta and laughing at the face he made tasting Lucas’s fancy french thing. He remembered kissing Lucas at the table and dancing with him. He remembered them crowding together to take a picture in the limo. He remembered Andy getting elected homecoming king.
And that wasn’t all he remembered!
The years as the shadow were still blurry and vague, like the memories themselves were confused, but everything before that he remembered as if no time had passed at all. It was like he’d gone back in time to that night but this time he woke up.
So they must have done some sort of ritual to bring him back? Val remembered them trying a bunch of spells and artifacts and exercises but nothing they did worked. But this time it was different. He forced himself to think back, using the same memory techniques him and Noah worked on. With his mind intact they worked better than ever before.
They saved Westchester from…something. Val didn’t remember that part because as a shadow he hadnt particularly cared. But everyone stayed, crowding in Connor’s living room with books and papers. A bunch of them slept on the floor too. No one left for days. They came out to visit Val sometimes and him and Noah still did his exercises every day, but no one left the cabin except the visitors. A bunch of witches came and went, a couple people from Pine Springs, Harper visited a lot. There were even those two in red leather jackets with crossbows. But Val’s friends didn’t leave.
Until finally they all left and Ava said they wanted to try one more. But she told Val this one was different and could be scary and could hurt him because this ritual they worked together to make and Karter was going to use his powers. They weren’t sure what that could do to Val. But everyone looked so scared but also excited. Val tried to think for a bit and people started getting sad and Val didn’t want to make his friends sad! So he did it!
Everyone stood around him outside another circle of things and said those words that he was now sure were latin. It got dark and quiet and then Karter came over to him and took Val’s hand. His eyes started to glow, brighter and brighter and Val got scared but before he could do anything the light turned so bright he couldn’t see anything else. Everyone said the last words and then…Val was here.
They did a ritual.
And it fucking WORKED!
No one took his place or anything he was ALIVE again!
His hand moved to his chest and he held his breath. He ignored the sounds of the woods and the caves, the feelings, all of it and focused on the sound and feeling beneath his hand.
BA-BUMP. BA-BUMP. BA-BUMP.
His heart was beating. God his HEART was BEATING.
He was alive.
He was alive.
He was alive, he was alive, he was alive, he was alive, he was alive, he was alive.
He was alive.
Val was alive.
He laughed again, and he sobbed and he held his hand to his chest, clinging to the feeling of his heart beat, his pulse in his head. Everything hurt and he loved it. Everything was all too much, there were too many feelings and thoughts he couldn’t feel or think for years. He was overwhelmed but it was the best thing he’d ever felt because damn it  he could fucking feel it!
It took a long time before his sobs quieted long enough for him to pull his thoughts back together. He was alive, the ritual worked! So…where was everybody? All of them had been there when they did the ritual. Hell now that he thought about they weren’t in the cavern when they did it, either. They were in a shady part of the woods, even though it was cloudy, and it was near Connor’s cabin. How did he get here?
Okay, he had to find the others. Make sure they were okay. He had a job now.
Val arranged his legs under him and clung to the wall as he pulled himself to his feet. Okay. It was walking. He could walk. He knew how to do that. It had only been seven years since he even had legs. He could totally do this.
He took a few steps along the wall then pushed off of it towards the stairs and proceeded to fall right on his face. That was a nice friendly reminder that his body was the same as it was the night of homecoming, which meant everything fucking hurt.
“You can do this,” Val muttered, the first words he’d spoken. His throat hurt too, his voice was soar and hoarse. Whether it was from years of disuse or all the screaming and yelling he did that night Val wasn’t sure. But it was so damn good to hear his own voice that he just kept talking. “Come on, Valen. It’s just walking. You did it for eighteen years before all this shit. Your legs work perfectly damn fine, so get your ass moving.”
It wasn’t exactly walking, it was more a combination of shuffling and crawling, and there was a lot of cursing and holding on to things, but he made it out of the cavern and through the old ruins, making it to the doorwway. Only he paused, just inside the door.
The clouds must have parted because now it was as sunny as Westchester could get, as if the town had never seen a cloud. And Val paused before he could go out into the sun. He wasn’t even sure why for a few moments. Until he remembered. The light hurt him.
But he wasn’t the shadow anymore. He could go into the sun again, feel it’s light and it’s warmth, the joy it gave just by existing. It wouldn’t hurt him…right?
Val hesitated, staring at the sunlight. He had to do this. He had to.
He slowly reached out and closed his eyes, turning away as he braced himself before thrusting his hand out into the light and-
Nothing happened. He opened his eyes and looked out, turning his hand in the light. He wiggled his fingers, watching as the shadows danced. It was warm.
It had been so fucking long since he was warm.
Val laughed, all other thoughts gone from his mind as he raced out into the sunlit clearing, twirling in the grass. He looked ridiculous in his torn and bloodied suit, looking like he’d fallen down a mountain then gotten in a fight at the bottom, laughing in the sun but he didn’t car at all. Not even when he fell, he just laid there in the grass and watched the clouds, watched the sun and leaves above him. Let himself feel alive again.
But after a few moments he felt something digging into his hip and he reached into his pocket and pulled out the rectangular object.
“No fucking way,” Val muttered as he looked at his phone. The screen was covered in cracks, most of which were from the two weeks before homecoming. He couldn’t believe it was in his pocket. Wait. It hadn’t been dead when he died. What were the chances that…
He hit the button on the side and the screen flickered to life. Val let out an excited laugh. He could find his friends now! Assuming none of them had changed phone numbers or anything. Whatever, it was fine. Val unlocked the phone and hit the first starred contact, Lucas, and held the phone to his ear as he listened to it ring.
