Ruby saw you down the hallways, there was a girl in front of you, she heard what you guys were saying so there was no need to be jealous.

“Hey Y/N, I just want to say thanks for the other day, you really helped out with moving the speakers.” The girl thanked, Ruby swelled with pride.

“It’s no problem, if you ever need help just I’m willing to be there.” And with that you two went your separate ways.

Those interactions she was fine with.

What gets to her is those girls who look for more, not to mention you’re rather oblivious when it comes to your complimenting style.

Ruby and you were walking down the hall together when this girl came up to the both of you, more specifically you.

“Hey Y/N, thanks for piggybacking me the other day, that was really nice of you.” She started, Ruby immediately didn’t like the way the girl was blushing.

“It’s no problem, as cute as you looked in those heels I don’t recommend wearing them again.” You complimented and advised her, not noticing how her blush got even deeper.

Ruby did though.

Yet she knows that you’d drop anything for her, all it takes for you to notice is her looking down.

The girl, her name didn’t matter, in Ruby’s not so humble opinion. She started following you guys to your next class, insinuating it was on the way to her’s.

And with that you two kept talking, Ruby started feeling a little left out and sad. To let you know she bumped into your side, after that she sped ahead.

“What’s up with her?” The girl asked with a bitter tone. You merely smiled in Ruby’s direction.

“Sorry but I have to go catch up with my girlfriend.”

And with that, the girl was left alone in the hallway.

You dedicate anything you can to cheering her up, she was slightly flustered about this at first but now just enjoys how you are.

Ruby sat rather glum in her seat, it was her final class of the day and that whole girl thing just left her with a bad attitude. She would’ve acted like a bitter child in her dorm but here you were.

“Ruby, would you like to go to the bakery with me? And maybe play some Kung fu ninja slayer ultimate death battle? The second one isn’t as good.”

Ruby smiled at your actions and quickly hugged you as you both headed to the bakery.

Weiss wouldn’t be exaggerating if she said she had a literal ball of sunshine as a girlfriend

“Weiss~ get upppp.” Weiss felt someone’s fingers brushing through her hair, the action made her want to sleep more. Of course she knew only one person who could accidentally make their work harder.

“Good morning Y/N.” She gave a slight smile, still a little drowsy from just waking up. She thought she woke up at a decent time, her new alarm clock being way more pleasant to wake up to than her old one.

You gave her your signature cinnamon roll smile and her morning got exponentially better.

Unfortunately your cheerfulness attracted unwanted attention, you simply thought you made more friends but Weiss saw the looks in their eyes

You were putting your weapons in your locker when you heard someone calling out your nickname in the distance.

“Sunshine!” You looked to see there being 4 older girls, the leader being the redhead named Stella. You quickly shuffled over to them, looking quite cute given you had a lot of big textbooks in your arms.

She understood them, you were just so...cute when you spoke. You genuinely tried to keep up and pay attention with everyone.

“Stell, what’d I say about that name!!” You huffed with a pout, the older girl merely gave a teasing smile as the girls behind her looked at you with interest.

“Sorry cupcake-“ you squaked at the name. “But my team just wanted to meet you, like a lot.” She exaggerated with big hand movements making you giggle, the girls behind her looked embarrassed.

“It’s okay! I wanted to meet them lots too!” You gave them a bright smile, they all looked at Stella with disbelief in their eyes.

“How is she so sweet???”

“I don’t even know.”

You didn’t hear their conversation but took a quick glance at the clock and bid them goodbye.

She supposed she could be considered a sort of knight in a way, just instead of an honorable battle there are threats and grimm(see what I did there?) promises

Weiss saw that whole interaction, her fist gripped hard around Myrtenaster. She observed Stella stay behind while the other girls left, that’s when she decided to strike.

With a slam, Stella got startled at the sound and looked back to stare into cold blue eyes. She shivered at the intensity in them, Weiss perfected the Schnee intimidation expression.

“I’m not going to listen to a single rebuttal, you stay away from Y/N, don’t look at her, don’t even breathe the same air as her. If you do I swear I will gut you like a turkey.”

Stella merely nodded, her being beyond intimidated. And with that Weiss left the locker room to join up with you.

When she did, you smiled at her, completely clueless to what she just did.

Blake wouldn’t call herself possessive, she knew from past relationships how that could go. Yet she couldn’t help but notice the sheer amount of girls with an interest in you.

You had walked away from Blake’s dorm after telling her good morning, she left her door slightly cracked open on accident. As she went to fix it she balked at the amount of girls she saw following after you in the distance.

“What…..?”

She honestly couldn’t blame them, you were pretty suave, another main thing that she knew contributed to your popularity.

A girl who was part of the group following you had tripped in the crowd. She closed her eyes preparing for a rough fall yet she didn’t feel it.

“Are you okay dear?” Your smooth voice asked. The girl blushed, your arm was around her waist as you asked this.

She could speak so she nodded causing you to give an amused and slightly teasing smile. You leaned into the crook of her neck.

“Be more careful next time chéri.” Your lips were right next to her ear, then suddenly you left. Leaving behind an embarrassed puddle of a girl.

She wouldn’t notice, much to your amusement, that she would get more clingy and needy.

“Hey kitten, I have to head to Miss Goodwitch’s class, I’ll be back in a bit.” You informed her as you were ready to leave the room.

“Wait, it’s a little chilly so wear this.” She handed you her favorite black hoodie, on the chest it had her initials, white and in cursive. The sleeves and hood were white so you’d have to be a bit careful.

You merely stared at it for a bit in amusement before chuckling and putting it on.

“Thank you dear, I’ll be back soon.” You smiled as you gave her a kiss, not even mentioning the fact it wasn’t even chilly.

A perfect example of an extremely jealous Blake Belladonna would have to be that one time she was waiting for you in professor Port’s classroom.

It seemed the hoodie wasn’t enough to drive some girls off, here you were, leaning against a hallways wall. In front of you was a timid looking girl, she looked the slightest bit like a squirrel, cute but you preferred cats.

“May I help you?” You asked, you looked to the side, you just wanted to be with Blake right now.

“E-erm yes! I was just wondering if you..me ...date..” She trailed off in the end but it was clear to you she asked. You gave her an apologetic smile.

“Sorry but-“ Before you could finish your sentence Blake came with her arms wrapped around you from behind.

“Y/N/N, who is this?” She asked as her head rested on your shoulder. You gave a wry grin at her behavior.

“This is-“

“I’m no one, sorry for bothering you girls!!” She squeaked out as she bolted away.

You didn’t even have to look at Blake to know what she did. She was pretty scary when she glared.

“Is my kitten jealous?” You teased, she merely gave you a slight glare before burying her head further into your shoulder. You grinned at this knowing it was a yes.

At first Yang would compete with you each day over who got more love letters, she thought it was pretty funny. At least until you two started dating.

Yang felt her eyes twitch as she saw the love letters fall out of your locker. She knew from experience that some would hint about you two breaking up, most didn’t even have names she could hunt down. It still frustrated her after you two made quite the public announcement about your relationship.

She did not jump onto a lunch table with a speaker for nothing.

You hummed at the letters and put them back in your locker.

This is usually the cause for Yang’s jealousy.

During times when your charm was reaching high levels Yang vowed to always be close to you, no matter where.

Yang and you were standing in front of the vending machine in the cafeteria, you were messing with team JOCK as you got your soda. Yang was fairly involved in the conversation, after all even she could admit that Vacuo’s team was treated unfairly in the final match.

Atlas Aristocrats, that was literally the team name, quite obviously bribed the referee. I mean seriously, Atlas people don’t even like football!!

Now that that’s out of the way, she kept her eyes glued on team JEWL(Jewel). She knew they wanted to join in, yet her glare kept them away. Needless to say even she was surprised at how charming you were today as you leaned and whispered in her ear.

“Ready to eat?” You asked with a dorky smile. She nodded and threw her arm over your shoulders, ignoring the blush she got from your action.

It was basically forbidden to ask about Yang’s small notebook, it could literally fit in her pocket.

Yang could feel you staring at her notebook, she knew you wouldn’t ask though. You were respectful like that, so she didn’t have to worry about you seeing her add Team JEWL’s names to it.

“Yang?”

“Wassup?” She asked with her signature smile.

“Ice cream?” She immediately knew what you meant, putting her notebook in her pocket she got ready to take you on Bumblebee to get some ice cream.

Yet every time she crossed something out she looked pretty achieved, and simultaneously a girl would stop obsessing over you

Yang felt pretty proud of herself, she managed to have another girl get the hint. You were taken by a hot blonde bombshell, with smug proudness she crossed out the name.

Suddenly she felt someone hug her from behind.

“Yang, while I am happy you’re making people get the memo I’d rather it be in a way you don’t get detention.” You nonchalantly teased her, she laughed knowing she was caught.

“Sorry Y/N/N~ but aye on the bright side…” Her brain failed her at this moment.

“On the bright side?”

“Uh- it’s bright?”

You snorted at her stupid remark

“Yeah it sure is my jealous bombshell.”

Since I recently played Life is Strange, which whoah, is totally an experience that I recommend to everyone, I’ve come to appreciate how well the game handles choices. It’s interesting how choices can seem meaningless good acts, like helping Alyssa avoid being hit, translates to her trusting Max enough for Max to save her. But, the game also points out how we can’t control consequences, since good deeds are done with nothing but good intentions can have fatal consequences, such as warning Victoria (and her believing you) leads to her murder, or the biggest good deed of them all, saving Chloe, leads to a storm that (can) kill lots of people. And ultimately, what’s cool is that every choice is canon, since Max it’s not a blank slate, meaning every choice the player makes is something Max considered. What do I mean with Max not being a blank slate? I mean regardless of your choices, Max likes waffles AND bacon and eggs. This is a minor example, but it serves for many things. Max can comfort Victoria or not, and later when they talk at the party regardless of your choice, Max at first is pretty angry, so she’s completely capable of standing up for herself and others. Max loves Chloe regardless of the player's feelings towards her. Max can be pretty uncaring or a literal angel, by Kate. And all of this is canon because even nice people contemplate not being nice all the time, even if it’s only a thought. This brings me to the ships topics. First of all, I’m glad that this game has non-ambiguous, non-sexualized, soft wlw romance (actually two counting BTS!) without the canon protagonist being turned evil or something, and I think that’s incredibly important. If the game had only Chloe as a love interest, I would totally get it and have no problem, because the game is pretty much focused on their bond. Not that it matters to those who do, I personally don't ship it because I self-project (and I totally recognize it) on friendships I had in my youth that were a bit like Chloe and Max's friendship in the first episodes, and they were toxic. Don't get me wrong, I loved my friends and they were (are) good people. I like Chloe a lot, and there's no denying that there are strong feelings on Max's part for Chloe that are romantic, and it's up to the player to determine if Max is going to pursue Chloe. Denying it means that is both not reading Max's diary and erasing her sexuality. I write this because I don't want to seem like I don't ship them because I like Grahamfield, it's not that, I could very well be into both, and I think Chloe develops so much at the end of episode 5 that, while before I thought she was only in love with Rachel, at that point is totally understandable for me. If you ship Pricefield then that's awesome! You have all the canon content to back you up and a beautiful story of love with the childhood friends-to-lovers trope, can't get much better. Plus, the whole game is about their bond. It's incredibly well developed at the end mostly when you see Chloe growing out of her initial angry phase, and maturing in a beautiful way. So, shipping Grahamfield in this fandom sometimes feels like hey, you are a giant dick. I don't like hate on any ship or character (especially dunking on Chloe, because she's a representation of how trauma is not nice while actually being cool and kind, as well as being one of the few wlw canon protagonists), because both choices are completely canon, it's entirely up to the player. Again, if Chloe was the only canon love interest then that would be totally cool. Buuuut Max can choose to go on a date with Warren, write on his slate that he is cute, raise his grade (which can be done as a friendship thing only), help him in his experiment, kiss him, and if she does, she writes in his diary "I wanted one kiss from a boy I cared about", that to me, reads as having a canon interest in him too. And since Max is bisexual from what I understand, erasing that part doesn't sit well with me. Both Chloe and Warren have flaws, which hey is what happens with characters. Can you imagine having perfect characters? That would be so boring. He is a realistic 16-year-old boy to Max's 18 and Chloe's 19 years. He is extremely awkward, dorky, a little cringy, a boy with a harmless boy with a crush and that's normal at that age. He's helpful almost to a fault, and while some argue that's because he feels entitled, let me tell you, no niceGuy I've ever met has been so helpful if you don't give in, they don't back out after someone lets them down nicely, and he states his interest in Max clearly, and niceGuys don't tend to do that because they like to pine away and be angry that a girl didn't read his mind and magically fell in love with him. He believes Max from the get-go and helps her all the time, regardless of his feelings, which is like, basic decency, so if you want to call him a piece of shit I think that's going a little too far. If you want to take the words of others, Kate says he's a smart and silly cutie-pie with a good heart, suggests they take him with them to their tea-shop tour of Portland after everything and supports their date (besides them being friends, he brings her homework and is shown worried about her). I don't remember that part well, but I think Alyssa and Dana also support Grahamfield (and Brooke is very jealous!) so I think if he was an asshole they wouldn't be so supportive and Brooke wouldn't be into him, or Stella in another reality. My only point is that hey if you don't like him that's fine, but to call him a pervert or entitled or assholery is kinda uncalled for, to be honest, and using the nightmare sequence, in which EVERYONE is out of character (except Jeffershit) and shown being assholes, as a canon that he is bad seems to me like going out of your way. It's a nightmare for a reason, do you really think Kate would have said those things to Max if you save her? She's incredibly grateful. Or do you think Chloe would have done those things??? She would NEVER. Then why is Warren being treated as someone who would do those things for a nightmare? I don't get it. There are two myths regarding him: that he spies on Max and that he photoshopped a photo with them. First one, you can verify with mods that he can't see SHIT, he is merely waiting for her outside. Second, the photo is developed, not photoshopped, Max doesn't say hey we never took that photo, she merely is surprised he kept it. Now, he's a bit pushy when it comes to the drive-in (he acknowledges he's a pain in the booty), says like a stupid joke (a 16-year-old making stupid jokes, what a crime), and has that photo, which for some is crossing boundaries, and hey, that's fine. I, personally, just think a 16-year-old having a photo with his friend and crush is not creepy or bad. So, now that I'm over the ship discourse, which I hate but had to write to explain, I'm so glad this game brought so many interesting characters. My only complaint is that it felt a little too short when it came to other characters, I guess it's because the literal theme of the game is about abandoning youth and growing up as well, so that's because it's very focused on Chloe and Max's relationship, besides the romance. I adore Kate! I’m so happy we were able to save her, it was seriously one of the best moments I’ve ever seen in a game, I would have liked to see her future children’s book with Max’s photos, their tea sessions, and her coming back to school. I would love to have seen more of Stella, (a POC I think) that according to her words, faced an abusive home and poverty to end up studying in a prestigious school like Blackwell, busting her ass to work and yet being super cool and kind! I would have loved to see more of Daniel, how he faced bullying, how his home life is, his budding romance with Brooke, his future drawings. I would have loved to see more of Dana! How she dealt with abortion, a heavy topic, and yet she's super happy, nice, and in a loving relationship apparently. I would have liked to see more of Juliet's reporting skills, I feel like she could have been more important to the plot, or at least more exposés on bullying and the Prescotts. I would have loved to see more of Alyssa, what she likes, her relationships, etc. I would have loved to see more of Taylor! How her mom was doing, what steps was she going to take in not falling with the Vortex Club bullshit, her love for fashion, like Courtney. We didn't get to know Courtney at all I feel and I would have liked to! I would have liked to see more of Victoria, her insecurities, her relationship with her parents, her inner thoughts (she's totally bi too I bet), even her friendship with Nathan seemed deeper. I would have liked to see more of cool hipster Evan, or good skater boy Luke. In short, I would have LOVED to have them all hanging more with Max. The ending, oh man, what an ending. It's incredibly hard, and I hate that saving Arcadia Bay seems to go into "bury your gays" trope, because if there was a way to save them both I would. The writing is very powerful, ending the way it began. This leads me to my initial topic, choices. I love that the game gives us choices, and considering there are other alternative realities, maybe both choices are canon in different universes. If I was in Chloe's shoes I couldn't choose to sacrifice my mom, and Joyce dies if Chloe is saved, as well as many other innocents, so I can't choose that ending, I just can't (and I understand that's totally personal for everyone). A really tough choice, at least for me, and hey, if it wasn't specified that practically everyone died, I would have saved Chloe no questions asked. I do love, however, how Chloe matures so much in the course of 5 days and her bond with Max. She sacrifices for Arcadia Bay, and a lot of it is because of Max, because she doesn't want her to make that choice. So now if you excuse me, I'm still playing the funeral scene in my mind and the bathroom scene (totally broken) and had to write this as cathartic, so feel free to disagree with me or whatever you prefer, each one of us experiences a different game because of our different experiences in life. a paladin danse fanfiction

story warning; this story contains strong language, adult themes (such as violence, smut/NSFW themes, drug use, and other harsh themes) and canon and un canon language and story plots of Fallout 4 and Fallout 3.

summary; yea, the bombs may have fallen, but art and love have not. and of course, people still tell white lies

chapter two; synthetic childhood

Everything went back to normal, as best as things can. It’s been around three days since Stella’s adventures out in the Commonwealth. That wasn’t going to stop her, she was planning on making way back to the police station in a couple of weeks. Luckily, the signal at the police station was now strong enough that Stella’s Pip-Boy cough their signal, so she could communicate with Haylen. She found that out last night while she was working on modding her guns, a strange voice came from it. At first, she was concerned, but when Haylen stated it was her and she realized she left the signal on her Pip-Boy, she was happy to hear from her. Haylen was happy to talk to someone other than people who were apart of the Brotherhood, and Stella was happy she could talk to Haylen, maybe she could get a signal elsewhere.

“What’s the craziest thing you fought?” Haylen asked to throw the speaker as Stella was tinkering with the gun she was making for Danse as a thank you. Stella sat back and thought about her question. Haylen snuck away to talk to her before Ryhs or even Danse would find her. Haylen has so many questions for Stella, about her crazy adventures she had.

“At 16, I fought two Deathclaws in the middle of a Gunner shoot out. For some reason, the Deathclaws didn’t attack me, but they did help me kill the Gunners… then they tried to attack me so I shot one square in the head but it did manage to rip my gun in two before it blood out… so I had to try to kill the other Deathclaw with my combat knife. It took a while before I confused the Deathclaw and I ended up crawling on his back and slitting its throat… I should have just taken one of the Gunner’s gun and shooting them, but that thought didn’t cross my mind,” Stella said through the mic. “I know it sounds so untrue, but I have the scar to prove it,” Stella stated as she felt the scare on her neck and chest. It was nasty and when she got it, she swore she was going to die right then and there and be a Deathclaw’s dinner.

“Jesus…” Haylen sighed, baffled by Stella’s story “I think with that, you have Elder Maxon beat…” Haylen laughed. Stella blushed.

“You think I’d be a good Elder?” Stella laughed. “Ah, just kidding, you shouldn’t answer that,” Stella stated. Stella could hear someone walking in.

“Hey, Haylen, who are you talking too?” A familiar voice was heard. It was Danse

“It’s- It’s Stella, Paladin. The signal was strong enough that I’m able to contact Stella,” Haylen stated. Stella’s cheeks where flushed, thinking about the Paladin.

“Hi, Danse!” Stella cheered.

“Hello, soldier, nice to hear from you again… Haylen, Ryhs needs to talk to you,” Danse spoke with seriousness in his tone.

“Oh… okay. Bye Stella!” Haylen cheered.

“Bye Haylen. Talk to you soon okay?” Stellas asked.

“Of course,” And with that Haylen disconnected from the channel. Stella smiled as she looked at the loose pieces of the rifle she was modding.

Stella got up from her desk as she went to the kitchen in her quarters. She lived with Lucas and Joanna and their quarters were rather large. However, tonight, she was home alone. Lucas and Joanna went to the ‘night club’ for some free drinks, but Stella wanted to stay behind to do some modding and to talk to Haylen of course.

Stella went to the fridge as she grabbed an ice-cold Nuka-Cola. Endcliff was a freak about pre-war foods and actually being edible, so their scientists and chefs would get together to make them. It was nice.

She took a sip, and sat down, unsure of what to do next of her rifle, maybe a suppressor? Ah, who knows. Stella just decided to move her little gun project back in her locker and pull out her typewriter, might as well finish that play she was writing for Cosmos…

The thing with Endcliff, is that they value education and the most important art and anything creative. That’s why it’s such a perfect fit for her. Stella always valued things like crafting, music, writing, painting, and dance. It would help heal wounds that were never physical. She remembered when she ran off to Goodneighbor in hopes of a memory wipe, she would sketch all the emotions she felt in her notebook. Luckily, before anything could happen, Nick Valentine busted in, helping her cope with her emotions, with her friends by her side. She realized that maybe she could learn from this and make art to express the awful feeling that flowed throw her veins. Or where they veins?

Yea, the past 4 years have been difficult after her little disappearing act, but who could blame her? The women just found out she’s a fucking synth prototype and everyone is after her? Was her mother really her mother? Or just a vessel for a synthetic baby? All her childhood felt so real, but was it real to everyone else?

Vault-Tec and the Institue? What a cluster fuck for disaster.

What scared her the most is that the Institue still is after her. Even when she was captured at 19, she managed to wipe her entire file and flee. She was safe for now… but she keeps wounding when her time will run out and there will be a ninth attempt on her life.

She kept that all to herself, the only people who knew her true self where her family and Nicky. She was happy about her new friendship with Valentine. He was fun and treated her with such care. He was like a father figure to her new identity and well, Nick felt comfort when she was around. A prototype. Just like him.

It was cruel what they did, telling her that she’s just a science project to those fuckers at the Institute on her 18th birthday, making her life crumble and saying her time was up. She couldn’t do that. She had to find something or someone else. Leave, forever. She realized she didn’t want that. Fuck the Institue.

The funny thing is, Stella, remembers her childhood like everyone normal child can… or as normal as one can get. Her oldest brother being in a gang and harassing everyone that crossed him and playing with anyone but the kids her age. The vault was never supposed to open. That’s what the Institute wanted. They thought that if they grew up on in a vault, they can easily get information, but now she’s here, in the Commonwealth where their little labs are. I guess she always knew something was off with her. She was anxious all the time and thought nothing she did was normal. She questioned her sexuality and her place in the world. It hit her too that she liked everyone, even ghouls and synths. She just didn’t care. Pre-war days, they would have a name for that.

She was lucky she made way to Little Lamplight after she lefts her life behind. She never really cared for the vault, no one ever cared for her. She did question if anyone ever tried to look for her, but she didn’t look for them, so it was whatever.

Stella never saw the world until she was 12. Broken… lost… She saw pictures of it before the bombs fell and she’d hope something of that life was still there. It was the Mayor of Lamplight that befriended her, they where close. He was the only one she talked to before she up and left again. Robert MacCready. Stella heard a rumor he was running with Gunner’s now and he made way to the Commonwealth too. She’d hope to bump into him at some point, maybe without the bloodshed, of course

Stella traveled everywhere in the Capital Wasteland before she made way to the Galaxy News Radio station. It was a blur at that time of her life. Brotherhood of Steel soldiers were doing their business. They were kind enough to let her stay there. Maybe that’s why she’s so drawn to the Brotherhood, even if they wanted to hunt her down now. Or maybe it was the fact that her first kiss and even doing that for the first time was with a Knight. She was 15, 2 months before she was planning on leaving and she had a crush on a new Knight… Knight Micheal. He was 17. The two hung out a lot and well… one thing leads to another and she was no longer a virgin. But that’s neither here or there.

Stella sat there, staring mindlessly, caught up in her thoughts. For a machine whose every waking moment was supposed to be programmed, she sure did think a lot. Quite honestly, with everything that happened since she got the news about herself, a lot of shit happened and well… she somehow saw the positive in it all. Even when the Institue did capture her only a year later. She learned a lot about herself in that time slot. She saw a lot of things she wishes she could be programmed to forget, but maybe… it was there for a reason. No matter what people say… no matter what the Brotherhood says or those bastards at the Institue, she is human. People forget what human even means in this climate.

Stella’s relationship with herself and other synths are always off and on, but to be fair, no other person outside Endcliff knows, it was the ones who were mindless under orders, jealous, almost towards her. She never understood why. Maybe the fact she remembered her childhood, had a real mother and father… but underneath it all, they were apart of the experiment all the same. She did feel bad for those wishing to have that loving mother or father, but that was never up to her. Nothing was. Besides her escape, of course.

The Institue was stupid enough to have every track record of there captured and escaped synths and there every move. Just on a terminal for anyone that can get their hands on it. They didn’t know she was going to escape with a few others, but she overheard a few idiots talking about it and so she found her file and deleted it so that when she’s back home, they won’t have a clue where she was. LV-32. Gone. It was a stupidly complicated yet simple plan with a lot of waiting. At least someone helped her. The Railroad.

Stella always heard about The Railroad even before she found out about being LV-32. She knew someone in The Institue was dancing with them. She owed a little bit of her freedom because of them.

Stella had no clue who was apart of there secret cool kids club, or anyone from Endcliff. When she got back from here escape, a new resident, Athena, moved in. Stella always thought she was odd, but she respected it. They talked every now and again when she went to Cosom’s. She ended up working costumes and was a fantastic seamstress. She could make anything you ever wanted to wear, amazing for any production Cosmos would put on. Athena would always ask Stella questions, not invasive questions if Stella had any, she was a pretty open person after all (besides her synth nature to outsiders)

Stella and Athena bonded a month after everything. Cosmo wanted to put on a production of a play he worked on called Poison of Creature he wrote with the help of Lucas. Stella played Noble, a woman who was a witch. Athena did all her costumes and hung out a lot backstage with Stella. It was no Lucas or Joanna to the level of trust and closeness, but she was glad she made a new friend.

It wasn’t until closing night she got a chance to meet… Deacon… and Glory and Tinker Tom. Athena invited some “friends” from her old settlement to watch the play and come to the little after party back at Cosmos’ place. Stella hit it off with Athena’s friends and well… months later told her everything or enough that Dez wouldn’t skin any of them alive. Just like the Brotherhood, she didn’t join them, but she did befriend them.

Stella was kicked off out of her through as she heard her radio coming on, someone was trying to contact her. It was probably Haylen again.

“Haylen? Is that you?” She spoke, leaning into the mic.

“No. This is Paladin Danse. Scribe Haylen is on a mission, she’ll be back in a few hours… I… I hope you don’t mind, but I wanted to speak to you… if you have time, that is,” Danse voice was husky and Stella couldn’t help but swoon. She was so happy to hear from him again.

“I always have time for you and your team, Paladin,” Stella spoke with professionalism.

“Please, call me Danse… I just wanted to properly thank you for helping us. It has been a stressful time and I would have left for the Prywen by now but I have to stay with my time to make sure they are good. I’m happy Haylen has continued to keep in contact with you,” Danse said, honestly.

“I’m glad to help out… sometimes we forget to help others… speaking of which, I’m making you something as a thank you, will you be at the police station in a week?” Stella asked. Danse chuckled, you could hear him blushing.

“I’m supposed to go back to the Prydwen in a few days, but I can always tell the Elder I need more time… that’s very thoughtful of you, soldier…” He paused as Stella smiled. Oh boy, she could feel that crush feeling crawling in. Not in this climate! “I’m glad you picked up, I wasn’t sure who or what I’d be talking to with Haylen’s radio,” Danse chuckled.

“I’m glad you contacted me. I have a million things I should do, but no inspiration is hitting me at the moment,” Stella admitted as she looked at the empty page of her play and the loose screws of her gun. Ugh, creation block.

“Inspiration for what?” Danse asked.

“I’m writing a play and modding something special… usually, I’ll have the first scene of my play done and the rest just come naturally, but… I think I can’t get my mind off of what happened. I can’t write about our loses or my adventures ether. It’s been the plot of my last 3 plays. Love? Murder? Synthetic lies?! Ah, sorry for rambling…” Stella stumbled over her words as she thought of another generic plot point.

“You’re a writer? We don’t have many of those nowadays. I always wanted to go to a play, but I’m always busy for the Brotherhood. Maybe write something that could have happened before the war… Baseball or country music. Simple. Peaceful…” It was clear that Danse, too was trailing off, but Stella listened to him carefully. She didn’t know a lot about things from before the war. She only knew of this life.

“You’re more than welcome to come to Endcliff, we usually have productions of plays that our friend Cosmos puts on. Sometimes it’s someone else. He’s currently running around like a madman, putting up a rusty set. And yes, I’m more of an artist, you could say. I paint and dance and sometimes I bang on tables! Damnit that sounded… sexual, ah… you know what I mean,” Stella laughed, completely making herself sound like a fool. Danse laughed at her, enjoying the conversation they were having.

“I’ll try to find a way to Endcliff, and I think I have an idea of what you mean. I heard stories of Endcliff, it sounds like such a strange place, the Brotherhood could make use of such a place,” Danse replied.

“I’d hope you’re not planning on raiding us… you’re making me nervous, Paladin,” Stella joked. “And yea, Endcliff is about education and art. A lot of settlers and traders and people of all walks of life come here, some live here. Mayor Kinnojo kept it safe and the same since his father passed away. We don’t keep people out, but you do have to pass security and Benji takes his job seriously… expect for the raider ambush… poor Benji is still trying to hold himself together… Anyways, hows Brotherhood life? And don’t worry I’m not trying to get you to tell me all your secrets,” Stella laughed.

“The Brotherhood is an honor to be in. I’ve works hours with my brother and sisters, saw many good soldiers come and go. My whole life is dedicated to the Brotherhood… but you can say it’s more than that,” Danse let out a comforting sigh. “Have you considered joining the Brotherhood? After taking care of yourself, you seem to be what the Brotherhood is looking for,” Danse asked. Stella thought about it for a moment.

“I ride solo, only really ride with Lucas and Joanna and for the people in Endcliff. It’s funny, back in the Capital Wasteland, I was around with a lot of Brotherhood soldiers but never would want to become one myself. I’d rather just do things my way, help people I want to help. I’m unsure why people always ask me to join their clubs… I mean, it’s nice that people think I’m good enough for them, but… it’s all bullshit,” Stella spoke with honesty. Maybe she should join one of those ‘clubs’. “I traveled with many people before I meet Joanna and Lucas, I was working with a raider gang, fixing their guns at one point. Hated every second of that gig… And of course the kids at Little Lamplight and the soldiers at Galaxy News Radio… but none of it felt like me. Yea, sure it gets lonely as hell when all you do is run with two people or even by yourself, but at those times I remember why I do it. To find clarity,” Stella looked at the blank page in her typewriter. “I suck… sorry for my life story… I really need to take it easy on the Nuka Cola,” Stella awkwardly laughed.

“It’s okay, soldier. I understand. I hope you change your mind and join us down the line,” Danse stated. If only he knew what she was… “I’m sorry to cut it short, but I have to go, Haylen and the team is back. I hope to see you soon,” With that and two goodbyes, the channel on her radio lost signal. She looked at her Pip-Boy. It was now midnight.

Stella got up and put on her coat. She wanted to go to Vista’s for a drink and some fucking food.

Usually, sitting at a bar, by yourself at midnight would be pretty fucking sad, but it’s Vista’s and tonight Kamilia was working. Stella sipped her whiskey as she listened to Liza Bush do her set. For such a popular hot spot for drunken mistakes, it was pretty fucking quiet tonight.

“Come here often?” Stella heard a recognizable voice next to her as she shifted her body. She prayed it wasn’t Danny… she would hate herself if it was… She took a sip as she looked to her left to see Deacon. She smiled and rolled her eyes as Deacon moved to sit next to her.

“Yes, all the time… What brings you back to Endcliff? Forget a disguise of ‘Pretentious Art Snob?’” Stella asked, making Deacon laugh.

“That would be such a good disguise for a place like this… but no… I came here to talk to you,” Deacon had some seriousness in his voice as Stella tilted her head in concern.

“Deacon is everything okay?” Stella asked.

“Yes… and well… no. Remember that man who was with me last time I visited Athena? F8-L9 or Gray we called him?” Deacon asked, catching Stella’s mind up.

“Oh yes! He had a passion for the arts, a perfect fit for Endcliff. Is everything alright with him?” Stella asked.

“He was supposed to be here with me so he could get a residentship here after speaking with Mayor Kinnojo, but Glory said he went all cuckoo and fleed to Goodnaighbor for a memory wipe, I’m afraid the Institute is after him and he just had a memory wipe before his visit,” Deacon explained the situation. Stella took another sip of her drink.

“That sounds like a hard deal… two memory wipes in that short amount of time can be dangerous and afar from the Institue goes, you guys always got that part covered,” Stella stated.

“You’re going to hate me, but we need your help,” Deacon spoke. Stella raised her eyebrows.

“Why me? I’m not even an agent,” Stella reminded Deacon.

“Because what I’ve gathered, Gray really likes you and your art and maybe you could tell him something that could convince him. We don’t have to leave until tomorrow evening… Please, you owe us this much. And besides, don’t you miss traveling with this face?” Deacon asked as he batted his eyelashes, but of course, couldn’t see with him wearing sunglassed in a dim bar.

“Fine, but we’re going to Cambridge Police Station, I have to give a Paladin something for helping me,” Stella explained.

“Okay, deal… Thank you, Stella,” Deacon smiled as he got up and left. What happened with running alone?

- Tuesday I found out Koikatsu can save overlays on the cos card. Now the roast skin would be avaible for every characters without opening the main game edit girls one by one. (But this overlay can't support 4K)

(I would release that card later)

So I also turn some body writing (dl from discord) and convert to cards.

These body writing match with these bad girls. So this punishment set done.

01) Favourite game of the series?

That’s a really tough question, honestly, because i love them all for separate reasons. I play Inquisition the most, but i love origin and 2′s story... so tough question.

02) How did you discover Dragon Age?

I played Skyrim for like 2 years (whenever i felt like playing) & finally got too bored to play. so i searched through my brother's games and found Inquisition. it took a while for me to finish it (bc i played on his console too). thennn i played the games backward. Inquisition, 2, and Origins.

03) How many times you’ve played the games?

I’ve played through completely 2- 5 times each. but I’ve started countless games each in every game and just didn’t finish them

04) Favourite race to play as?

Dwarf! Especially in Inquisition.

05) Favourite class?

Rogue! Wielding a bow is my go to.

06) Do you play through the games differently or do you make the same decisions each time?

Honestly, it depends! Likeee mage play through= mage rights, but any other class just depends on how i want to play or the background i gave the character. i’ve yet to side with the templars in Dragon Age 2 though. lol.

07) Go-to adventuring group?

Again, it depends. but i almost always have Alistair in origins, Varric in 2. my go tos are:

dao: Alistair, Wynne, Zevran/ Leliana

da2: Varric, Bethany/ Anders and/or Carver/Aveline, Isabela

dai: Cassandra, Dorian, Iron Bull

08) Which of your characters did you put the most thought into?

i’ve done a lot of work on all of them. I’d say Roxy & Gavin Hawke(&Aidan Amell and Odette Surana bc their stories are related) and August Trevelyan. i don’t write a lot about any of my ocs but i’ve made full timelines and family members for all of them. i still intend to put bios out, but the only one i have finished right now is Stella. I’ll try and start those while im at my moms. c:

09) Favourite romance?

i really appreciate all of them, but i have a few favorites.

Zevran, Isabela, Iron Bull- which i know they have one thing in common and it’s being known for being extremely sexualized. maybe im a sucker for falling hard and being able to open up to someone. but i really adore their stories and i just want to hug them, ok.

10) Have you read any of the comics/books?

I have the books and haven’t read them, yet. it’s on my long list!

11) If you read them, which was your favourite book?

I’m really looking forward to The Masked Empire tbh.

12) Favourite DLCs?

The Descent, defiitely! but i haven’t played through them all yet, just all of dai and some of daos.

13) Things that annoy you.

Representation, probably. yes they have lgbt people but i personally haven’t been able to connect to any of them EXCEPT Lace Harding & she’s not even a full romance! lol.

Mages.

16) If you have multiple characters, are they in different/parallel universes or in the same one?

They’re really all interchangeable. i need to make a few more characters if i want complete timelines though. for example:

Odette Surana & Aidan Amell, Gavin & Roxy Hawke, Augustine Trevelyan/Sunshine Cadash/ Austa Adaar can make one timeline. Except Odette couldn’t survive without Aidan whereas Aidan wouldn’t be the same without Odette.

& Stella Tabris, Roxy & Gavin, Sunshine/ August/ Austa could also work.

hell i’ve even thought about combining them all somehow lol.

17) What did you name your pets? (mabari, summoned animals, mounts, etc)

August: Yellow (named by Clem), Flower (a cat also named by Clem), horse: Pretty Boy

18) Have you installed any mods?

Two for Origins, one to skip the fade in the circle and another for an all romance mod- i think.

19) Did your Warden want to become a Grey Warden?

Aidan did far more than Odette, Aidan wanted out of the circle. Odette wanted to take Irving’s place- she wanted to make the circle better.

Stella wanted the hell away from the life her dad imagined for her, she was scared but excited. She didn’t like how it happened, nor the responsibility that was placed on her shoulders.. but she knew she just wanted MORE.

20) Hawke’s personality?

Roxy: Purple Gavin: Blue

The twins really help one another, yes they can survive without the other but they wouldn’t be the same. Roxy keeps Gavn from being so serious and Gavin reminds her to me more... sensitive.. even if it doesn’t always work.

21) Did you make matching armor for your companions in Inquisition?

lmaoo noo, im so lazy about armor. as long as they look good i don’t reallt care.

22) If your character(s) could go back in time to change one thing, what would they change?

August, would have done more for her daughter’s father.. she would have been on watch the night he was taken. Losing her best friend was very hard for her.

Sunshine, once upon a time, wished to leave when her sister did... but after the Inquisition, she was thankful for it. For the people, she’s met, and the skills she developed during that time.

23) Do you have any headcanons about your character(s) that go against canon?

Sort of? i have them work around the canon...sorta.

Odette only survives because of Aidan (two heros isn’t canon so), because if Aidan didn’t exist she wouldn’t have even told Alistair about the dark ritual and wouldn’t have let him go to the final battle. Thus sacrificing herself.

Roxy and Gavin: Twin Hawke AU where all the siblings survive. Roxy and Gavin fight the Ogre, saving one of the twins. Carver becomes a Warden and Bethany joins the circle.

Austa’s parent’s escaped the Qun, but they escape with two of their own biological children Oz and Austa. & Valo Kas actually started from the remains of an old Tal Vashoth community and have since built to a large merc company her brother and father run.

&August had her daughter Clementine at her childhood home and left her there to be raised- bc her parent’s used her status to have that privilege.

The Cadash Carta works a little differently. Instead of one person at the head: it’s a council, like orzammar, and several families run their expanded carta family. The children can inherit their parent’s position in the council unless they don’t have kids or are voted off. So since Sunshine’s father is part of the council meaning her younger brother, Wesley, is being trained for their father’s position. Zelde (oldest sister ), left before she could even be considered and Sunshine was trained to be an assassin from a young age.. so she also wasn’t being considered.

so i guess they all do... oops.

24) Are any of your character(s) based on someone?

not really. probably should bc they all look really similar imo. I do have different oc aesthetic boards that give you an idea though!

25) Who did you leave in the Fade?

im a weak bitch who decides they all somehow get out......... but Stroud. poor guy.

After reading your Coco post and seeing what you had to say about Miguel actually acting like a kid (saw the film already, it was great), can you please list some examples of child characters that actually behave like children, as well as child characters that don't act their age? Asking because I have this big idea for a story which has three main protagonists that are kids.

And those are just to name a few. (If anyone’s got others in mind, tell me because I love kid characters!)

For many adults (especially working in visual fiction), writing kid characters can seem extremely difficult as they tend to lean more on the tropes of “naive little hyperactive person” and that’s basically it most of the time. Either that, or you get instances like Harry Potter and every anime in existence where the kids seem more like tiny 40 year old adults in the way they speak and act. It’s like a meter where one end is “over the top excited little moron” and the other is “literally just a middle-aged adult basically like what”.

Even before I got a job working around kids and teaching and stuff, it’s clear what can make kid characters separate from KID characters: understanding the maturity of their age (especially in our modern day) and remembering that… well… kids are NOT stupid. They are curious, but they are not stupid. And children also have PERSONALITIES. They have likes, they have dislikes, they have goals, they have interests, have flaws to their personalities, they have friends and enemies and love things and hate things and they can UNDERSTAND SCENARIOS THAT COULD SEEM INTENSE. They are capable of understanding when something is dangerous or scares them, just as they are able to understand things that bring them and the people around them lots of joy. They don’t see a dog get kicked then go “Mommyyyyyy? Why did the little fluffy butt fall down?” (or whatever). They are also able to grasp when something is too much for them when they were so sure they got the gist of things. They can change their minds, they can prioritize.

(And, from a kids’ guide to you: … kids… love… violence. NOT REAL VIOLENCE, but like, cartoon violence. They love seeing fighting and death in animated films and they love seeing bad guys DIE. It’s damn wild. A lot of kids also tend to enjoy seeing “scary” things in animated films because it allows them to feel challenged - of course, though, it’s not for all kids. And I’m talking 2nd grade to 5th grade here.) A lot of kids also tend to enjoy feeling “like adults” so they might often be caught showing off swear words (which is a tremendous no-no so like… try to tell them “Hey. We don’t say that.”)

Her style is basically "I like" and "I do not like", it's quite simplistic, like, in the way she chooses her clothes. Emilio Pucci is probs her favourite brand, also Gucci and Valentino. Head cannon: Svea's a bit of an oddball slytherin (as in she doesn't fit the general mold of a slytherin, she only comes off as crazy to people who witness one of her Eurovision rants, which is around 80% of the stuff that comes out of her mouth so meh, she's got a little bit of a rep as a nutty swede). She can seem standoff-ish or intimidating at first glance, her entire vibe is "arrogant and proud", and "proud of her arrogance", however, she's extremely outspoken and often involves herself in situations that she has nothing to do with (especially if someone is bugging one of her friends or she sees/hears something "stupid" aka bullying) and is a lot more approachable once she starts speaking. She's quite outgoing, and easily befriends people, as well as being well-mannered and polite (even towards people she hates. She makes her hatred clear, but she'll be saying "fu.ck off" with a smile and a "please and thank you"). She generally comes off as a very bossy "Swede" (and she's proud of that. The world would be a better place if everyone strived to be a little more like Sweden).

Strengths: Hardworking, passionate persevering, unrelenting, obsessive (I'd call it a strength), adoring/doting (bordering on becoming a negative trait though), highly self-aware, nerdy af, dedicated, ambitious, resourceful, and cunning (duh-doi, slytherin), independent, protective, proactive, aggressively European/Swedish

+Mom Friend: she's a total mom-friend (even fits in with her sort of GG role), she's ridiculously protective of and invested in her friends and family. It's not inherently a bad thing, hence it's in the strength list, she follows their love lives and is somehow always around to lend an ear/shoulder/offer to hex the fu.ck out of someone. She's always around to give (unsolicited) advice to friends, and really, everyone. However, her mom-friend behaviour can go to the negative extremes because not only is she willing to forgive anything someone she loves does, but she'd also go to any length to protect them, including ruining the lives of others (or literally ending said life) if she feels someone she loves is threatened in anyway. She has a lot of resources at her disposal and uses all of them to protect those she loves. Flashy social takedowns aren't really her thing, it's more framing someone for an illegal act and having them sent to some kind of prison. Her protective behaviour can border on the socio or psychopathic, as she displays a complete lack of empathy for the person who hurt her loved one (regardless of how small that hurt may have been) and seems to lack the ability to see them as another living creature, also seems to relish in the pain she caused that person, displaying a somewhat sadistic side of her as well.

+Boss As.s Bi.tch: she's commanding AF (behaviour she inherited from her Grandmama tbh), she's not as bossy when it comes to her circle of friends. There's an equal playing field there, but for anyone she does not consider a close friend, she's always bossy, her commanding tone increasing on how beneath her she thinks someone is.

Weaknesses: Elitist, unforgiving (except when it comes to people she loves, she's so forgiving of them), somewhat vain (but like, look at her), arrogant, narcissistic, elitist (though, you have to earn the right to be elitist in her eyes), manipulative (duh-doi, that's just basic slytherin-ing), cunning, b.tchy, salty, snarky, stubborn, relentless, aggressive.

+Superiority Complex: like, she doesn't think it's a problem, but it technically is. Her core belief is that if you want respect, earn it, and she feels she's worked hard to accomplish all that she has (well, except her money, that she was born into), so she has earned it.

+Hypocrisy: whilst she claims she has high moral standards, and certainly acts like she's above the idiotic "dark" behaviour her house has a reputation for, but when it comes to her friends, she forgives basically everything. She's like one of those mom's of bad kids who defends them regardless of what stupid shít they've done willingingly, like "Paul Ryan, you should know better. You know my son doesn't know anything about healthcare. Donnie trusted you, he's a slow boy. He's a slow boy, look at him! You took advantage of him." (It's an old, in this day and age, joke made by Trevor Noah about one of Trump's fox news defenders after the healthcare debacle). Anyway, Svea's friends could literally burn down the school or her house or kill someone and she'd be all "okay, here's how we're going to handle the authorities sweetie". Like, she wouldn't even question why did it. The only time she'd struggle with forgiving someone she loves would be if they hurt someone else she loves.

+a messy bítch who loves drama: it's low-key, somewhat, she's certainly not looking to start drama, but she absolutely, 100% wants to hear about it (hence she follows gossip witch), and if it's negatively affecting someone she cares about, she will involve herself to protect them, aggressively.

+Internalizing: she's not so good at sharing her own problems and/or feelings. Whilst she's always around to talk about her friend's issues and feels, when it comes to herself, she tends to shove it down between 60 layers of jokes and salt. When genuinely hurt by something or someone, she tends to just walk away and brood silently in a dark corner. She sees herself as a leader and believes that leader's can't go around showing weakness, so she struggles to open up about that side to even her closest friends.

Habits: - eye rolling (so much eye rolling) - tends to tune out her entire environment when she's in "the zone" (no longer walks and reads because she has run into and fallen off of stuff) - twirls her hair with her wand when she's thinking (like how we use fingers) - Swears a lot - hums Eurovision songs around 90% of the time - corrects people, all the time. She can't not correct people.

Skills/ Talents: - multilingual (English, Swedish, French, Russian, German, and Danish) - magic (she has yet to encounter a form of magic she does not immediately excel at) - memory (it's not really eidetic or photographic, because it's not instant, but after 3 reads of a thing, she can rattle off the whole thing word for word) - making references (that's a talent right? Because otherwise, I am screwed) - emotional manipulation/acting (works best on people that don't know her, she can still manipulate other people, but it takes a little more effort and time) - obsessing (again, totally a talent right because otherwise I have literally no skills)

Any mental health issues: She's got some deeply buried mommy issues, and her narcissism is probably on the borderline of crossing into a disorder. But meh, nothing she's been diagnosed with, and definitely nothing that affects her daily. Actually, her perpetual repression of that could/should cause her emotional distress is probs another disorder, but again, eh. It'll probably all explode one day in some kind of breakdown, but she's basically fine.

It's said to someone if they're being too ostentascious or acting superior, or says something that smacks of class warfare)

The Prince Family Through her mother, Svea is the heir to the Prince Family, a British Wizarding Family who are absolutely psychotic when it comes to blood purity. They are an old family, left off the list of the "Scared Twenty-Eight" for unclear reasons, though Marcius Prince claims it's due an ancestors' very public liaisons and relations with muggle royalty/nobility. Old and pure-blood proud, the Princes are fervent purportors of the concept of blood supremacy and purity, and proud Slytherins. Having all been sorted into the House dating back to Salazar Slytherin himself (or so they claim). Due to centuries of inbreeding with other pureblood families (who are all cousins at this point), the Princes tend to have the following traits; violent tendencies, mental instability, and some are enfeebled (though the family goes to great lengths to hide and eliminate such members). Additionally, due to their close genetics, the family additionally has trouble conceiving, generally ending up with only one child born per generation. Their numbers are currently dwindling, and the name is expected to die if Svea's mother doesn't have another child (or not if Svea agrees to take their name, solid no on that though).

The House of Sauvageon The Sauvageon's are a very family old wizarding family, they were originally French, and later immigrated to Sweden in the late 1700's. Unlike most ancient wizarding families (particularly the British ones), they have never shied away from breeding with muggles and muggleborns, often gaining the label of "blood traitor" from the British families, but they're Swedish, and blood density is irrelevant there. There are as liberal and socialist as their country. Despite being loathed by the blood purist-type families, they are still approached very few generations for marital matches, as they are exceedingly wealthy and when the aforementioned house runs out of options.

♣️ What is your character's relationship with their family? She has a very positive and close relationship with her paternal family. They were (and remain) her primary guardians, and growing up with the Sauvageon's in Sweden very much molded her into the person she is. Her grandmother is her role model, her sister is her *Gollum voice* precious, her step-mother inspired her to play Quidditch, her father instigated her love of eurovision and dragons, she considers the Sauvageon's her home. Her maternal family on the other hand, "poor" would be an understatement. Svea and her maternal grandfather (Marcius) actively hate each other, and it's not much better than that with her mother.

♣️ Which family member does your character feel the closest to? She's quite close with her entire paternal family, but as of the last 12 years, it's definitely been her younger sister; Lili. She's a protective type of person, so having the responsibility of an older sibling was an absolute dream come true for this nerd.

Happiest Memory: she has quite a few, but the absolute number one would be the time she attended a Eurovision song contest with her father as a child (mathematically, but vaguely, it was probs around Marija, Dima, or Alexander's win).

Saddest Memory: when she learned that her father went missing. Like, it could be various arguments/standoffs with her mother, but her method for dealing with that is walking away/burying it, with her father going missing, there wasn't anyone to be angry at or someone to walk away from. Someone she loved was taken from her and she was literally powerless to do anything about it. Probably also why she's such an aggressive mom friend, on a subconscious level, she goes out of her to ensure someone she loves cannot be taken again.

How does your OC feel about pureblood supremacy?: She hates the "concept", and thinks it's the most idiotic thing ever thought up by someone. She was raised on Swedish ideals, a very liberal and socialist nation where blood purity or "impurity" is irrelevant, blood is blood, move the fck on. Muggle-borns have time and again been shown to be as powerful as any "pureblood", not to mention it's scientifically impossible for a person to have absolutely no muggle blood in their family histories, the wizarding population is too small when compared to the muggle population in the world, the species would've die out.

How does your OC feel about muggles/ half-bloods? Does your OC think they should be a part of the magical community? Of course they should be part of the magical community. Honestly, she supports the idea of reintegrating the magical and muggle worlds. What are they gonna do? Spread a nerve agent in their shops? They have magic and could easily handle any weapon the muggles send their way. She doesn't really understand why they have to hide.

Quick facts: Svea is half-Swedish, half-British, but was raised as a Swede from birth. Her mother's family was quite ashamed of the whole idea of a "liaison" and "bast.ardry" (how lame), thus she was born in semi-secrecy (secret from the British buddies of her mother's family) at the Sauvageon Estate in Enköping. Her paternal family has custody of her from birth, and she didn't see her mother or maternal family again for a decade (well, she was an infant, we can't actually be sure she ever did see her mother).

From the ages of 2-5, Svea was enrolled in Förskola, and when aged 6, she attended Förskoleklass, school for muggle children in Sweden (both are optional for Swedish kids, "Förskola" is preschool, available to children from ages 1-5, and "Förskoleklass" is preschool class, which I guess is effectively a year of kindergarten, for children aged 6). There she was integrated into muggle culture (or something like that, I can't remember the word I want) and made numerous friends, including one of her all time besties; Lara Coburg (the only one of her muggle friends to be introduced to the magical world, in a very Jacob Kowalski way now that I think of it, even though I hated him in the Fantastic Beasts movie). Lara is aware of the magical world and the only one of Svea's muggle friends who she maintains regular contact with.

After Förskoleklass, Svea attended 4 years of the muggle compulsory school in Sweden (which is for ages 7-16, and basically the north American equivalent of elementary through to high school), with the plan being that she would "transfer" to private, boarding school once she reached the age for magical schooling. However, when she was 10, her mother and maternal grandfather came to Sweden to claim custody and make her a British citizen, to meet the residential requirements to attend Hogwarts. The Sauvageon's initially refused, but as they loathe their local home school, Drumstrang (a very non-Swedish Scandinavian school, because Sweden is liberal af and Drumstrang is magic racist af), they agreed.

Svea spent a year living with her mother and maternal grandfather before being admitted into Hogwarts and did not like it in the least. They were horrified and appalled by the rambunctious, muggle-friendly, aggressively European child she was (and tbh, still is), and spent the year trying to force it out of her. They kept her isolated and cut off all her connections to her father's family, and tried to instruct her in the ways of pureblood, often screaming in frustration and anger when she argued back or simply replied with "so what" or "why". They later took to locking her in rooms, and starving her when she started leaving the estate on her own to mingle with the local muggle population. Eventually, their little war came to a head when they broke her electrical toys from her father's family, and in her fury, she magically set fire to the Prince Estate (on purpose, though they claimed it was an accident to the Improper Use of Magic Office). The fire resembled the Fiendfyre curse, and it was stronger than any fire Svea had produced before. Although no one died, the entire estate became ruins, and took 4 ministry workers plus her mother and grandfather to contain. After the incident, Svea was able to reconnect with her paternal family (crying to the ministry people there about missing her father and worried that her grandfather would say no because he's jealous of her other grandfather, yes she was faking her tears, anyway, they fell for it and informed her Swedish fam who immediately apparated to the Prince Estate). The Sauvageon's offered to pay for the restoration of the Prince Estate, but in exchange, Brigitta Sauvageon would be staying with them until Svea left for Hogwarts. Once that was settled, Svea and her maternal family became akin to strangers living in the same house, with Marcius Prince calling Svea and her aunt "unwelcome guests".

After she received her Hogwarts letter, instead of Diagon Alley, Svea's Aunt and Grandmother took her to Drottningsgränd, basically the Stockholm Diagon Alley (btw, I'm really proud of myself, because I googled Swedish street names and that effectively translates to "Queen's Alley" mostly because there's an actual street called "King's street", well, in Swedish it's "krongsgran" or something like that, tbh, I already forgot). Anyway, it resulted it quite a tiff with the Prince's, who insisted on Diagon Alley and wands from Ollivanders, they lost the argument on the later, but she did get her books, robes, and other school items from Diagon Alley. Also an adorable tawny owl they named "Fredrick".

Additional Information: - her name is poorly made pun, like, "pun" is actually pushing it. "Svea" comes from a personification of Sweden, a derivative of "Svear", the Swedish name for the ancient Germanic tribe; the Swedes. "Svear" also later evolved into "Sverige", the Swedish name for Sweden and means "the realm of the Svear". Her surname, "Sauvageon", is a French form of "Savage", an English word, nickname, and surname meaning wild and uncouth, which was derived from a Middle English form of Old French; "salvage" or "sauvage", which meant untamed. Effectively, her name means Savage Swede, the flip around being a ref to the annoying flip around in the French language with certain terms and/or phrases (also in other languages, but French is the one I got beef with as a Canadian person). Richelle and Estelle are just because I like frenchy names that rhyme, and they're vaguely posh sounding, so I'm assuming her mother picked those ones. I say, assume, I made these characters, she did pick them for Svea.

Any Pets?: a tiger patterned kitten, super smol and super cute, but has been a "kitten" for a suspiciously long time. It's been tiny and like a baby since she first got it in her fourth year, though she simply claims that it's a rare Swedish breed. She named it Vhagar, after a dragon in ASOIAF because she's a massive nerd.

Reputation at Hogwarts: All in all, Svea's got a pretty stellar reputation. She certainly doesn't cause any trouble, she's heavily active in school events and protective of younger students. She's always been doing her own "foreigner" thing, in everything she does, she's aggressively Swedish about it (and that's something she says herself). She's basically the high-achieving "socialist" elitist, she definitely thinks she's better than you, but she's not going to tolerate something as stupid as "blood purity" in "her" school. Her reputation is basically that of the smart, sporty, pretty "cool" girl. Or I guess simply "The Swede". Seriously, she's super liberal, she loves Eurovision, what about that isn't Swedish? The fact that their faceclaim is English, but whatever. ▪️ Is your OC based on one of the character archetypes? If so, which one: Lily van der Woodsen/Bass/Humphrey (somewhat, she's a lot less selfish/self-centered than Lily)

The Maker’s Ark - Chapter 39

[This is a chapter from my latest novel, a sequel to The Fall of Doc Future and Skybreaker’s Call. The start is here, and links to my other work here. It can be read on its own, but contains spoilers for those two books. I try to post new chapters about every two weeks, but there will sometimes be short stories and vignettes if I don’t have a new chapter ready. Light and darkness. Ice and fire, turning to water and steam behind her. Anger and heartache. Flicker hadn't expected the heartache, as she skated around Europa. Despite all the pain, effort, and dread she'd gone through up to this point. She could suppress her emotions at high speed. She'd done so unconsciously for most her life, thinking slow neurochemistry was needed for them to be real. But four humans, one Grs'thnk, three AIs, two pseudo-mythological entities, and every biogestalt she'd ever met had recently convinced her otherwise. And that suppression was unhealthy. So she'd stopped. Flicker ached because Europa's surface had millions of years of history, oddities, quirks, and places of beauty. And she was obliterating them all. She was angry because she had no choice. Because she needed Skybreaker's Spear to defend against what was coming. And for her to construct it, Europa needed to be smoother. There had been last-minute scans and surveys, pictures and core samples, all taken before she started. It helped a little, knowing that there would be records. But not enough. She glanced at the picture of the old Europa on her visor display one more time. It was familiar to astronomy buffs, and similar images were in books, papers, articles, and vids, and even on a few posters. Those would require an update, or a note. The simplest one would be 'Before'. Doc, Ashil, and DASI were still hard at work, struggling to determine the best way for her to forge the Spear. But all plausible construction scenarios had something in common--they required a portal in a freefall orbit of Europa within Flicker's entropy dumping range of the surface--and that was only fifty meters. Allowing for a reasonably sized portal, and the ship needed to support and guide it, meant nothing could be much over thirty meters high across the entire orbital path. Europa was already the smoothest large body in the solar system, and its outer layers were almost entirely ice. Flicker was giving it a temporary atmosphere of steam and a shallow liquid water surface. Those would condense and refreeze, but not before the water had time to do what it did best--flow downhill. If you wanted to make a solid surface very flat, it was hard to beat covering it in water and letting it freeze. Tidal flexing would eventually produce irregularities again--but not soon. Journeyman was aboard Three's favorite ship, keeping watch from above, along with the Learning Is About To Occur. There were new, more distant watchers as well--a group of ships from an ally of the Grs'thnk had jumped in yesterday. Learning said they'd moved up the timetable of a planned diplomatic mission. Preparation for black hole construction was apparently enough to worry the neighbors, even if they lived two universes away. ***** The lab was a kaleidoscope of holograms and display screens, and Doc concentrated to keep focus as Ashil flipped between them. This was the kind of work where her implant made a big difference--and Doc wasn't as fast as he'd been. "...worst still third case. Collapse asymmetry," she was saying. "Not most energy, but--" "But hardest for us to rule out," finished Doc. "We need better bounds on either the non-linear collapse phase or the permeability of the portal to gravitational waves. Because they won't bother Flicker, but they sure might kill Journeyman, even through a Xelian shield. I think--" "Priority interrupt," announced DASI. "Incoming?" he asked. "Problems on Europa?" "Neither. However--" "Then what on Earth is so important?" Doc felt the immersive flow of the theoretical work slipping away. "Director Reinhart wishes to discuss her response to an official communication from the Floater ships that jumped in yesterday, along with several other issues. Also, you and Ashil are two hours overdue for a dinner break, and your personal health maintenance index is in the red." "Great." Doc closed his eyes and sighed. "Ashil, I'm sorry. Can we--" "Break. Yes. Implant yell at me, too. Don't worry, I have new idea for free parameter reduction I work on after I eat." "Thank you for being understanding," he said. Robots served the meal in the kitchen nook of the apartment Doc shared with Stella. "Okay," he said after taking a bite, "Choosers and superheroes are handling the crisis list, DASI won't let me start reading my message backlog before I eat, and nothing's on fire except Europa. What did the Floaters want?" Stella smiled. "A short, liberal translation might be 'You are doing dangerous and reckless things. We are very concerned.' Which is reasonable. But." Stella raised an eyebrow. "One thing everyone agrees on is that mistranslation and misunderstanding of other races is a longstanding issue for the Floaters. Working out the protocol for their entry into the Grs'thnk Trade League took years. You're the only human who has spoken to a Floater before, and I'm curious about your meeting. The notes you recorded about the occasion were brief and unhelpful." "I didn't write them up until I got back to Earth, and a lot happened in the meantime. It was at that same diplomatic nightmare of a party where I got myself in trouble talking about grav drives. I wasn't drunk, but I was still very loopy from the antihistamines." Doc took a drink before continuing. "The Floater I talked to had an autotranslator that used Grs'thnk trade pidgin as an intermediate language. We agreed that it didn't work well. He seemed eager to get cultural context data for a better translator, which I could sure understand, but given the venue and available time, I thought that was just asking for trouble. So I begged off on grounds of fuzziness." "What did he look like?" "No clue. His envirosuit was bipedal with six tentacles, and about human-sized, but that doesn't mean much. Is it important?" "Body form is associated with Floater factions in some complex way, and our new visitors admit to having representatives from at least four factions. That's one of the clearer parts in DASI's composite translation of the message--and there are plenty of signs that different sections were composed by different groups." "I remember that Floaters need to body mod to allow interstellar travel, because the gas bladders in their unmodded form are too big to make it practical." "That's not necessarily true," said Stella. "One of the ships is quite large, and part of the message is devoted to complaining about the inconvenience of transporting an elder here." "That's new. At least to me. What do the Grs'thnk say?" "Beveda says yes, it's new. Learning says not really. DASI says it depends on what they mean by elder." "Wonderful." "It gets better. The least opaque parts of the message are disclaimers and complaints. One you might find interesting blames an entity or entities unknown--but circumstantially linked to Earth--for creating a lasting navigational difficulty that caused economic hardship to a Floater colony. For eighteen years, ending shortly after Flicker destroyed the Topaz Realm." "How does the timing fit with the Grs'thnk portal shifts?" "Exactly, as far as Learning can tell." "I'm beginning to wonder if one reason Golden Valkyrie left in such a hurry was to avoid awkward questions." "Plausible. But that one was mild compared to the diatribe against the recklessness of Flicker's probability manipulation during the fleet battle. Literal translations--we have five different ones so far--are rather incoherent. The figurative ones start with 'Fools! You've doomed us all!' and go downhill from there. DASI is reasonably confident of two important bits of information from the rant: The ranter thinks it's at least possible to avert the coming doom, and there are three of whatever is bringing it. But there's no indication how they know that." "How reassuring. What else?" "The Floaters are more moderately displeased that Flicker is threatening the fabric of spacetime and committing planetary engineering without filing an environmental impact statement, because we foolish humans are insufficiently protective of Jupiter and don't require one. Learning says that if the moons of Jupiter were their lawn, they'd be yelling at us kids to get off of it." "Not unreasonable. They're touchy about gas giants because they live on one." Stella smiled again. "Our lawn, our rules. The last part of the message emphasized that regardless of anything else, they are here to help, they have two portal test 'devices', and they would like to share data as soon as is practical. They were clear, if somewhat passive-aggressive, about their intent to carefully monitor what Flicker and Journeyman are doing. They also intend to survey the local gradients around Earth, which is specifically permitted by the terms of our treaty with the Grs'thnk." Doc frowned. "Gradients of what?" "They didn't say. And 'gradients' is an indirect and possibly figurative translation. There was also an amusing disclaimer from their primary translator; essentially 'I'm sorry, we were ordered to translate this on an impossible deadline. Here is the raw text so your AIs can try.' He included an appendix on the failure of their first translation project, which would have been much easier to understand--" "If it hadn't failed." Doc sighed. "They do have a reputation for persistent and patient action, as well as grouchy and ambiguous communication. Anything else?" "Ambassador Beveda said it's clear to her that the Floaters were putting together a more coherent message, then decided to send what they had on short notice. The obvious impetus would be Flicker starting work on Europa. Learning sent some highlights from past misunderstandings between the Floaters and the Grs'thnk, and a link to a sketch by an human comedian telling an improbably intricate tale of woe with the punchline 'but that part is complicated'." "Heh. DASI said Journeyman sent something, too. He's still on the observation ship that you have sticking close to Learning, right?" "Yes. His message was sent about ten minutes before the Floaters sent theirs, warning that what seemed to be a weak divination attempt bounced off one of his wards just after Flicker started work. He performed some tests that he's unwilling to discuss until they get back, but he thinks the Floaters have either a probability manipulation based scanner or a magician." ***** The steam was thick enough now to block most light. Flicker used the radar in her visor to see, and her gravitational gradient sense to stay at the right level. Collisions were her usual worry, but not today. Solid matter was no more of an obstruction than a spider web if she wanted it gone. She followed a carefully planned path, because the energy distribution was important; she could add heat to Europa in a hurry, but cooling it down again depended on weather and thermodynamics. They would need a near vacuum before starting portal work, it would take time for all the steam to condense out, and sufficiently uneven snow distribution could be just as much of a problem as the ice geography she was erasing. Plasma flashed brightly but briefly for the central peak of Pwyll crater, and Flicker felt a pang of sadness as she vaporized the jagged blocks of the Conamara Chaos, old ice rafts twisted into rugged beauty. But there was no beauty in a portal crash, so they had to go. Any life on Europa was kilometers deep, in buried oceans far under the ice, and shouldn't notice her disturbances to the surface unless something went catastrophically wrong. And if things went that wrong, life elsewhere would be in trouble too. ***** Doc finished reading the messages on his handcomp. A lot had piled up over the past week while he'd been helping Ashil with portal theory. He looked over at Stella. She was reviewing DASI's translation of the official EDU message to the Floater ships. "Send, with a copy to the Grs'thnk," she said aloud. "Sending," said DASI. "Verified. Recorded by the Auditors." "Thank you." Stella set down her own handcomp, then met Doc's eyes. "Well?" "I asked not to be disturbed if there wasn't a crisis," he said. "So I can hardly complain. But I'm wondering about the Volunteer. His letter was not reassuring. Did he send anything to you?" "DASI has been keeping me updated on his healing progress. His eyesight hasn't returned. The problem seems to be that Golden Valkyrie and Flicker regenerated most of his brain damage while his eyes and optic nerves were still gone. DASI's most recent scans indicated a connectivity problem that's healing very slowly, if at all." Doc nodded. "He says they were making sure he didn't lose any memories permanently. But I'm more concerned about the effects he's been experiencing on Earth. Migraines and general malaise--but they go away as soon as he returns to Kyrjaheim. That sounds like a probability manipulation effect." "Our magic theories are all pretty speculative, as Journeyman never tires of pointing out, but I think it's archetype backlash," said Stella. "The Volunteer filled an important symbolic role for a long time, and now he can't. There could easily be a strong feedback effect from all the people that saw him as a bulwark against unwanted change. Especially older people in the United States." Doc frowned. "Or he could have lost part of his connection to Earth; he was gone when Flicker was hammering the universal reset button, and he was healed in Kyrjaheim. We just don't know. He sounded pretty discouraged." "He's discouraged because he can't directly help Earth. Margie was quite clear about that. I forwarded some letters from the Xelian Volunteerist converts; perhaps those will help." "I hope so. Not much else we can do. I could go visit him, I suppose. I need to stop pushing the physics for a while, anyway. I can keep up with Ashil and help her--but not all the time. I'd trash myself on the schedule she's been keeping lately." Stella smiled wryly. "That rarely deters you. But I could use your assistance with a few things, on a more reasonable schedule." "I'm trying to be more sensible. I have a lot of bad habits from my days of dealing with crises while chronically short of sleep. But we still have time, and I'm now convinced that Ashil is better at portal theory than I am or will be, even if I someday manage to restore my top-level augments. And the potential for new data from the Floaters makes this a good time to take a break. What do you need?" "The CBI has been requesting a secure meeting with you for a number of days. Given recent developments, it would be useful if you were willing to accommodate them here. DASI believes they will now agree to all of your conditions." Doc raised his eyebrows. "The pennies are finally dropping, eh? DASI, would that be consistent with 'taking a break'?" "Yes," said DASI. "Such a meeting is unlikely to be cognitively difficult, even if you have anger management issues. And it's aversive enough to you that you won't prolong it." "All right, go ahead and schedule it." Doc turned back to Stella. "I'd like to hear a bit more about those 'recent developments' though." "I could let DASI explain, but I'm red-zoned too. I really did not need a new set of aliens arriving to increase the variance of all my political projections. Venting will help. With several things, some of which I've been putting off for weeks." Doc frowned. Stella's body language was usually very hard to read, and she normally affected a detached amusement. Now she just looked frustrated and tired. "Stella? Are you all right?" She stared back at him for a moment. "Let's go into the the living room, so I can put my feet up. We need to talk." ***** It was done, finally. Europa was now a steam-enshrouded billiard ball, slowly cooling. The rain had already started, but it would still take weeks before the residual atmospheric density was low enough. Flicker stared at the image in the screen on the shuttle that had picked her up. It was something to do other than dwell on the lack of mass around them. "The destination shuttle is almost at the right spot and velocity," said Journeyman. "You ready?" "Green," Flicker said automatically. He had his arms around her, preparing to port both of them most of the way to Earth. She was still dissociated from her long work at high speed, but she would recover. As soon as she had mass, and air, and ground she wasn't doing anything destructive to. "Thirty seconds, mark." "Goodbye, Europa," Flicker whispered. "I'm sorry. I'll be back." Did that make what she'd already done better, or worse? She was still wondering when they ported out, heading home.
