@heartinhands : ❛  i don't know how you feel, but i want you to know that i care about you and am here for you.  ❜ (mia for ethan like before she goes missing maybe...like during an argument is what im thinkin)
He's tired. Ethan is so tired. Being lied to isn't the worst thing in the world, and he isn't one to jump to conclusions without any real reason to do so, but it hurts. Especially when nothing he does is enough to earn the truth---No, that's not fair. That's the frustration, his feelings mingling with the distance that only seems to be growing between he and his wife, a yawning maw of space that he can't reach across. He's too far from her to even hear her whisper. Maybe he's doing something wrong in being afraid for her, because that's what he is: Afraid. Alone in their place, alone in their car, voicemail after unanswered video call after unread text. She always comes back, she always comes back, but he can't help it. He knows there's something else and maybe it's better if he never finds out what it is, but it can't be so terrible, can it? He loves Mia / Wants that to be enough.
"I don't know how you feel, but I want you to know that I care about you and am here for you."
She's back and she's so kind and happy, she loves you, he's trying to turn away from her, and the guilt turns his spine to ice, flips his stomach and wrings out its bile. It hurts because he knows she does mean it, she always does, but he can't soothe that itch of hurt that takes hold of his heart. Because if you'd lie about where you go, how can I know? If you won't let me say the same thing? "Where were you?" He asks, brow knit sadly as he swallows down another question: Why won't you tell me? It feels wrong to tell her that keeping things to herself causes him pain--What if she needs that? What if he's blaming her for something she hasn't thought to share at all, holding it against her without ever giving her a real chance? "I could tell you how I feel if I knew what was really going on, Mia. Please."

Okay but like…Rose telling Mia about her adventure/reunion with Ethan.
This is my epilogue and headcanon to the SOR DLC:
After all that, Rose decides to go see her mother. It takes awhile, and a few tries, but she insists it. Chris is the one to make it happen, and ultimately goes with. I mean, the two of them are old friends after all, seeing each other in person would be nice.
Mia looks forwards to the visit, as she misses the days when they were together all the time. She’s made all sorts of plans for the two.
Rose tells her mother that she found out what happened 16 years ago. Obviously this makes Mia a little uncomfortable. Why is she talking about it? How did she find out? She doesn’t want to think about it either, even though she knows Rose deserves to know everything.
It when Rose says “I met dad” that she looks shocked…and then confused.
Rose continues to explain everything that happened, and how Ethan guided her along the way, until they finally got to embrace. She talks about the letter, their final moments, and confesses all her feelings.
While hearing this, Mia begins to tear up and eventually starts crying, both out of grief but also happiness. She’s relived to know that her husband could protect her family even after death, and that he has finally found peace after everything he was put through. That the two of them finally got to reunite. They’ll be connected no matter what.
Meeting Ethan was the best thing to happen to her, even if their time together was shorter than she wanted. His love for them was undying. She knew he would be a good father and he proved her right.
Things would be quiet for awhile, but they both bond over their love for him, they share old stories about him, their personal struggles, and overall…just talk and catch up. Mia reassures her that she loves her too, no matter what or who she is. She’ll always support her.
She is a Winters…and Winteres can do anything, no matter what life throws in their way.

Holy moly season finale thoughts!
Albie his Dad and Grandfather are all trash. Albie is a little spoiled rich boy who was just like yeah she played me nbd after coercing his pathetic dad to drop 50k.... And was Grandpa screwing Mia this whole time???! Hope they crash and burn in life, gotta watch out for guys like this ladies!!
Tanya Tanya Tanya.... My jaw dropped during the boat scene lol like whaaat happened! Part of me thinks the gays weren't going to hurt her and she just got paranoid but... I'm thinking they were gonna kill her. I'm just not sure why they didn't do it earlier? Why make a personal connection? Why take her to all these luxurious places just to kill her? Why not just kill her on the first boat ride there? Take out Portia too why not there's no reason to keep her around.. I honestly thought Greg would be on the boat to somewhere but nope! I wonder what the guy that jumped must think though, and what Jack thinks when he finds out!! So many lingering plot points! I do feel bad for Tanya but I'm still a little shocked she didn't put at least some of it together earlier, I thought she had moments of clarity but I guess not.. and the sound design of her hitting the rail 🤮🤮🤮🤮💀
Portia needs to find a new city to live in, new job, work on herself and stand on her own two feet before thinking about starting and relationship. But no, she goes back to Albie after a traumatizing event... Ugh
I like to think Daphne didn't do anything with Ethan. She's already got her trainer and kids, I'm not sure why she'd believe Harper slept with him after their girls night out... Idk I don't think anything happened. Maybe some oral to boost Ethan's ego but nothing more. I lived that Cameron was all sad at the end though in the airport, he's now beta dog compared to Ethan lol
PS: Daphne saying next they'll do the Maldives LMAO
Ethan and choke though, insecure lame excuse for a man.
Harper.... Idk she shouldn't have lied. I'm upset they had her lie in the first place, didn't seem on character since she told Ethan about everything else Cameron had done throughout the vacation. But she got a great lay so... I guess if they are happy then all is well, right??
Valentina will hopefully go to the lesbian bars and gain confidence in herself and find herself a girlfriend! I was very cute when she was finally nice to Rocco, good character development!
Lucia..... Idk.. not my favorite character but I guess she got what she wanted so.. good for her? One day it'll bite her but until then, good for you.
Mia needs to watch her back with Giuseppe!! I'm impressed they had time to bring him back tbh, but I'm happy for her. Got a cushy singing job and is rolling thanks to Lucia. I really hope good things happen for her!!
Great finale, not remotely what I thought would happen but I still loved it!!!

BLOOMING LIGHT: BEFORE LOUSIANA
Ethan Winters x Yandere Reader
Warning:obsession and angst
Part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5
Tumblr media
(Name) and Ethan are best friends since college, like other normal friendship.
Laughing, eating lunch together, help each other, etc.
(Name) always tried her best to impressed him, joke, tried to remind him what he forgot, made him lunch, well not always, always there when he need it the most, comfort him, etc.
Just for him to laugh and smile at her.
She already has a feeling for him before they became friends, she thought her feeling would be gone after 4 months.
Months turned into years and she still can't got rid of that feeling.
At one time, Ethan saw her eyes twitch when he ignore her to greet his friends for 5 minutes.
When she saw other girls got a little closer to him she tried to make them go away politely.
"Why you so close to him?🤨"
"It's late, come on Ethan, see you tomorrow!😁"
"Ay look, your class is about to start, you don't want to be late do you?😊"
She works a half time job at some café, Ethan goes there 5 times a week to hang out with her before his class start.
Ethan's a software engineering student, while (Name)'s a mechanical engineering student.
One day, many of their friends dissapered in one week.
Ethan got devastated.
(Name) got 'devastated'.
She tried to comfort Ethan and fake a sympathy.
She was involved in Raccoon City incident when she still 14 years, she was saved by Jill and Carlos but still suffered a big loss. So when Ethan came to her life, her heart warm once again.
She's willing to do almost everything for him.
When they graduate, they went to their own path.
They still meet each other but rarely because of how busy they were.
(Name) always tried to gave him a visit if she has time.
(Name) drove her car to get home, her phone's ringing, it's Ethan.
She won't pick it up until she got home, so she ended up hearing his voicemail.
"Hey (Name), how's it going? I apologize for calling you this late, i just want to give you a surprise!"(Name) chuckle,"you are... invited to my wedding!"
Her stomach drop and park her car,"Her name's Mia, she's such a lovable person, anyway it's okay if you can't come, you probably have a lot of work too, but if you insist my wedding is in May, hope you have a great day (Name), good night."
Let's just she was not happy hearing that.
"No... nonononono this isn't suppose to be happening."
"I gave him everything i have, why is it still not enough!"
"Why is it not enough?"
She takes a few breath to calm herself down.
Later she start to think his fiance is better than her, deserve him, his soulmate, the God choose her.
Not feeling really safe she got back in the car and drove home to clean herself and sleep.
A month later she went to college reunion, almost everyone have their partner with them.
Ignore Ethan at all cost.
A moment later she went to the rest room to rest a bit, sadly she can't.
"You must Mia, Ethan's fiance,"(Name) wash her hands next to her,"oh yeah, that's correct,"(Name) smile kindly to her,"nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too,"(Name) start to analize the room,"the name's (Name)."
"I remember Ethan talks about you,"(Name) putting her hand on the pocket,"really?congratulations by the way, see you later."
"Thank you, see you later too,"after Mia leaves the rest room, (Name) took out her pocket knife.
"It's for the best."

*climbing through your window* AND ANOTHER THING--
I just idk appreciate Ethan not seeming angry when dealing with Evie? Just restraining her and supporting Rose to get through her area?
AND IN THE END!!!! no stoic acting father, or trying to look strong for his daughter, or wise words before his end, nope!! BOTH OF THEM bawling in front of each other, and Ethan trying to condense all he feels for his Rose in the few seconds they have left ;_;
((Many thanks again for letting me rant so many times in your inbox, frend. -laa))
Yeah... I was super mad when Eveline invaded the Winters house, like when she appeared behind Rose I was screaming internally "SHUT UP LEAVE HER ALONE!!" but then Rose even seemed a little sympathetic towards Eveline, like when Eveline was on her knees crying, Rose just looked at her like she was feeling sad for her. Considering the game doesn't give you an option to kill her, only stop her long enough to escape, I think we're just meant to see how damaged she is, not hate her. Though I am mad she dragged Rose away just as she was all emo from reading her dad's letter. Like I know you've been through hell but timing, dude! But yeah I get the feeling that Author's Intent is to understand that we as the audience are not meant to hate her. And maybe even having Ethan, who has every right to feel that Eveline personally ruined his life, not go out with the intent to kill her, is meant to emphasize that point.
And once again I'm super grateful they didn't hesitate to show both Ethan's and Rose's emotional sides, like I was grateful they didn't shy away from showing both Ethan and Mia as traumatized in the main game. It's one of the reasons I even loved Ethan in the first place, stoic and cool characters are not my thing, instead I love it when characters get emotional and act it all out. Openly crying and expressing their love for each other, Ethan saying he's sorry he cost Rose her chance to remove her powers, when all he was trying all along was to help her through; Rose telling him it was her choice because she preferred that over not getting a moment to talk to him, because it's what mattered to her, it's what helped her accept herself, that she's okay; ETHAN TELLING HER HE'S PROUD OF HER LIKE I SWEAR THOSE LINES AND THEIR DELIVERY HAVE CARVED THEMSELVES ONTO MY HEART! Rose taking his hand in hers to rest it against her face! The I Love You's! It was unabashedly emotional and it was hardcore from an emotional standpoint because it left us a crying, inconsolable mess T_T
My inbox is always open and waiting for your rants, I love them and I love talking to you! I always smile when I see I got a message from you so seriously, rant away all day <3

Alright! This idea wouldn't leave my mind so here it is! The Stanley parable meet resident evil, well. The narrator and Ethan winters meet.
I apologize now for this not having really any conflict whatsoever but I just wanted to build it up and do that first I needed to set it up. So that means I am probably going to continue this.
So... Yeah. Enjoy my half baked, unedited, magnificent work of art.
The final thing Ethan had heard was the click of the detonator.
Then everything went black.
One of his first thoughts went to Eveline, and that place. Of the chill that sucked all of the warmth out of him.
Why hadn't he gone there?
Maybe it was gone now without the Megamycete, along with Eveline and Miranda and every other damn thing in that village.
Now Ethan was stuck in this void, unable to see a thing but he could still feel his body and hear.
He seemed to be suspended in this space, weightless and alone.
…It was so quiet he could hear his own heartbeat.
It continued for an indescribable amount of time leaving nothing to do but think.
Ethan thought about the life he could've had with Mia, the one he could've had with Rosemary.
He thought about playing in the park with Rose, home cooked meals with just the three of them, all of the good times that could have been.
Could have.
~~~~~
Ethan had cried for a while, but it eventually settled down. He couldn't say that it helped much. He couldn't say that it didn't help at all though.
There was just a dull pounding in his head.
But there was something else, a soft buzz. It couldn't have come from him, at least he didn't think it was.
The buzz grew louder over time and it reminded Ethan of a voice distorted by static on a radio.
Eventually he could just make out words, though they were odd and seemed to be playing out on repeat.
"The end is never the end is never the end is never the end is never…"
Questions began to flood through his head, questions of why and how and what could it possibly mean?
Then it stopped.
After a moment, a clear voice rang out, the person sounded like an older man that had a British accent.
"This is the story of a man named Stanley."
They continued to speak, going on about whoever this Stanley was, about where they worked and how they liked pressing buttons.
"What the fuck is going on?" Ethan wondered but then something happened.
He was no longer in the void anymore, now he found himself sitting at a desk, an older bulky computer sitting in front of him along with a keyboard.
He tried to move but found himself stuck.
"Something was very clearly wrong. Shocked, frozen solid, Stanley found himself unable to move for the longest time."
Control finally came back to him after that. And looked down at himself.
He was wearing slacks and a long sleeved button up- what happened to clothes he had been wearing? Where was he? Who was speaking and why did it sound like it was coming from all around him?
His thoughts were pushed to the side when the door beside him opened all by itself.
"-He got up from his desk and stepped out of his office."
"What the hell is going on here?"
Ethan couldn't exactly say whether he was saying it for himself or if he was actually questioning the voice- it didn't really matter either way as they responded anyways.
"Wait a minute, you're not Stanley. Who are you? How did you get here?"
"How the hell am I supposed to know?" He responded, his tone coming out a bit gruffer than he meant it to be.
"Well there's no need for that sort of language, now is there? I was only asking a few questions."
They said it like they were scolding a child, and pissed Ethan off. His mouth opened, a "fuck you" at the ready, but he thought better of it. Probably best not to anger the person who might be able to explain what the hell was getting into.
"Sorry, just stressed out." He took a deep breath, "My name is Ethan Winters."
"Ethan Winters? Hmm, would you mind if I just used Ethan?"
His face scrunched up as he considered it.
The voice continued on, "Of course if that's too informal I suppose I could use Winters… no, that doesn't sound quite right- Mr. Winters? Of course that seems a bit too formal, doesn't it?"
"Just Ethan is fine," He interrupted their slight hum as they seemed to be thinking.
"Oh good, I was afraid of having to say Mr. Winters over and over again. Do you know how annoying that would be?"
He squinted as he continued to look up towards the ceiling, "Not really."
"Then trust me when I say it would. Now, Ethan, you said you didn't know how you came here, correct?"
"Yeah, no clue."
"Where were you before this?"
Ethan considered telling them about the village, but decided that it was probably better to keep that to himself, at least for now, "Some kind of void."
"A void? Was there anyone else there with you?"
He thought back to it, but quickly decided that, no, there definitely wasn't anyone else there.
He shook his head.
The voice was silent, set in some sort of quiet contemplation before breaking it so suddenly that Ethan flinched, just a little bit though.
"Ah ha! I've got it! You and Stanley must've switched places! Yes, that must be it. Ethan-" they addressed him directly now, "I have an idea on how to reverse this, but you'll have to follow my instructions exactly."
Reverse it? All just to go back to the void?
"What if I don't want to go back?"
"I suppose that's understandable, but trust me, you don't belong here. Besides, it's not like you would be able to truly appreciate all the work I've put into this story."
Well all that did was bring up more questions.
"Story?"
"Yes, "the story of a man named Stanley" if you will. You can't just change the main character willy nilly, it messes up everything."
Ethan remembered them saying the same line earlier and he considered prodding the subject further but he felt it would just create more questions than he wanted to deal with right now.
"Fine, whatever, what's your plan?"
"I'll guide you out of here. Oh! You wouldn't mind if I tried to run a few new lines with you? I've been meaning to make it a bit more exciting for Stanley."
"..Sure."
"Fantastic! Hold on, let me just grab the papers."
There was the rustling of papers before it stopped, "Here are! Now remember Ethan, just follow my instructions."
He just nodded in response.
"Alright! Leave the room and we can begin."
Ethan gingerly left the small office, hand pressed against the open door as he passed. The door softly shut a fraction of a second after he let go.
He looked back at it for a moment before the voice cleared their throat.
"Stanley still couldn't wrap his head around it- where could his co-workers be? 'Ah ha!' Stanley thought, 'I must have missed a memo for a meeting. Yes, that's it."
That wasn't exactly clear, but maybe it meant he needed to go to some kind of meeting room?
He started to walk through the office, the walls covered in a pale white and cubicles the same color with bright yellow numbers on them. It was much different than the old office he used to work at with its sleek furnishings and all the glass panels it had instead of proper walls.
"What do you think, Ethan? Does it stir you into action? Make you want to venture forth and figure out what has happened? I'm genuinely interested."
Ethan didn't exactly know what to say, he didn't exactly get what was happening, but he figured it wouldn't hurt to lie a little.
"Uh, yeah, have to find out what happened to everyone else… right?"
"Yes, yes! Your co-workers, where could they possibly be?"
Ethan gave a questioning look to the ceiling.
"Erm, Stanley's coworkers of course. Forgive me, I really am not used to not having Stanley here."
He nodded, "Yeah, it's fine."
He then noticed as he entered this new room, there were two doors and no clear sign of which to use.
"Oh? Here already? Okay-
When Stanley came to a set of two open doors, he entered the door on his left."
Ethan made his way over to the door and was about to go through when he stopped.
"How do I know that you're not tricking me?"
"Trick you? Now why would I do that? I have intentions of bringing you harm, Ethan."
"And why should I trust you? I know nothing about you- for all I know you're sending me into a death trap!"
They gave a deep sigh before they spoke, "What would I have to gain from that? I'm not cruel, at least not without reason. You've done nothing to gain my ire, Ethan. You will just have to trust me."
Ethan took a moment to mull it over, what if it was a trap? In the worst case it meant death but… well, it's not like he's not already dead.
Wait, was he alive? Or was this the afterlife? Was the afterlife being bossed around by some disembodied British voice?
God this was fucking weird, and not the weird he was used to which made the situation oh so much more nerve racking.
He eventually went through the left door-it wasn't like they could put him through any worse than he had been through in the last three years.
"See? No traps, no swinging axes or arrows being launched at you. Just a perfectly normal hallway."
And Ethan was grateful for that but he elected to not respond to them.
The walk to the meeting room was uneventful, each door was numbered, with the exception of a door label "broom closet".
He thought about checking in there for something to defend himself with but decided against this. Wasn't like this was the Baker house and he'd find a pistol or ammo inside it.
Upon reaching the meeting room, the voice rang out again.
"Yet there was not a single person here either.
Feeling a wave of disbelief, Stanley decided to go up to his boss's office, hoping he might find an answer there."
Ethan's gaze unfocused from the slides coming out of the projector, turned back at the ceiling for a moment before he left the room.
He soon came to a staircase to which they spoke up yet again.
"Coming to a staircase, Stanley walked upstairs to his boss's office."
He questioned whether he should listen to them yet again, though this time in his head. But he made the same decision as last time to listen to the voice and went up the stairs.
Like all the other doors, it opened just as he came up to it.
He walked past the door, expecting the door to close, but was surprised when it didn't.
This room was different from the others, the flooring and walls made of some sort of dark oak. Down to his left was a door labeled 'executive bathroom' and the other way seemed to lead to this boss's office.
He went over to the open double doors and stepped inside.
The doors slammed shut as the voice started, "Stepping into his manager's office, Stanley was once again stunned to discover not an indication of any human life."
Ethan started to walk around the office, looking on the bookshelves and then onto the desk towards the back- he took a particular interest at the keypad behind the desk though.
"Stanley searched throughout the room, checking every nook and cranny for any sign of where everyone could be. Eventually he came upon a keypad that sat behind his boss's desk. He knew this must be what guarded the truth of the situation but what Stanley could not have known is the true depth of the terrible secret that lay below his feet. And so the boss had assigned it an extra secret PIN number. 2845. But of course, Stanley couldn't possibly have known this."
Ah, so that was PIN. But what was he supposed to do here? They said Stanley couldn't have known so he shouldn't either, right? Maybe he should just put it in anyways.
And so he did, and in response to the correct code, a bookcase was whirled away to reveal some sort of secret room behind it. Ethan made his way over to it as they talked.
"Yet incredibly, by simply pushing random buttons on the keypad, Stanley happened to input the correct code by sheer luck. Amazing. He stepped into the newly opened passageway."
This place seemed to be unfinished, paneling laying loose and a large construction light in the middle of the room. He made his way past it to find an elevator to his left with a bright light emitting from the space.
There was a large button on the other side of the elevator, a big bright red button with an arrow putting down.
Ethan looked up again waiting for the voice to say something but found no response. He looked back to the button then pressed it.
The door closed behind him and he turned around to face it.
"Okay Ethan, how was that? I have to admit I'm quite proud of that one. It can be such a struggle to find the words to spark the right emotions, but I feel like I've done it! Tell me, Ethan, do you feel that curiosity that's built up inside you? The kind that makes you jittery with anticipation?"
"I definitely am interested, uh, actually, what is down here? Just as a warning?"
"No, no, no, why would you want to ruin the story? No, now I've got you hooked!" They chuckled, "Just wait, Ethan! I promise that the rest of the story will be every bit as enjoyable and fascinating as everything so far. Oh this will be so much fun! Now, where was I…"
Ethan just hoped what they considered to be fun wasn't like the other 'fun' things he had been subjected to in his life.
He sunk deeper into the building, metal and piping lining the walls that passed by him. A pit seemed to form in his chest, he couldn't say he was a fan of industrial architecture- especially after being chased by that creature in Heisenberg's factory.
Ugh, the stench of death from it still lingered in his memory and pervaded his senses.
He shook his head, trying to get rid of the memory.
"Descending deeper into the building, Stanley realized he felt a bit peculiar. It was a stirring of emotion in his chest, as though he felt more free to think for himself, to question the nature of his job. Why did he feel this now, when for years it had never occurred to him? This question would not go unanswered for long."
Ethan welcomed the disembodied voice this time, thankful to have a distraction, at least for the moment.
The elevator finally settled and the door opened. The place was cleaner than the factory he supposed- a lot less cold too. He made sure to not trip over the loose wiring that littered the floor and then he looked up.
"What the fu-" he caught himself before he finished the curse.
"No cussing, just like when you're around Rose."
Poor Rose. God he missed her.
"Yes, yes, the emotions are overwhelming aren't they? Learning of the Mind Control Facility, the possibility that you, yourself were nothing but a pawn in someone else's game! Oh Ethan, I'm overjoyed- I don't think I've ever had someone enjoy my story as much as you have! Come on, let's continue."
Ah, he was crying, wasn't he? Ethan just couldn't help it, Rosemary meant everything to him and now… now he's gone.
But he couldn't keep thinking about that and standing here with streams of tears rolling down his cheeks. He needed to keep going.
It's not like he had another choice.
He went through the doors and out onto a walkway that held a desk on the end with a button with a picture of a lightbulb.
Lights lit up after he pressed the button revealing many, many tv screens.
"Obviously to monitor the employees," Ethan thought to himself. It was kinda obvious that's what it was.
One walkway later and another button revealed just that.
"Called it."
He eyed the screens for a moment before he walked on yet another walkway, pushed yet another button, then finally watched an elevator come down from the ceiling.
Ethan spent the ride up just barely listening to the voice, the interest fading bit by bit.
Then the elevator opened up to show many large control panels coupled with a myriad of computers and buttons.
He explored this room for a few moments as they went on about the facility and Stanley and what they had to do.
Eventually he made his way out to the massive empty room, save for the catwalk to two buttons, ones he could make out as he got closer reading 'off' and the other 'on'. A large monitor was in front saying 'Mind controls idle awaiting input' in bold capital letters.
"...he knew it was his duty, his obligation, to put an end to this horrible place and to everything it stood for."
That struck a chord with him. It had been the exact same sentiment he had felt when he blasted that damn village along with himself.
How long has it been since then? He wondered. How long had he been in that void?
There came a cough, "I understand being overtaken by emotion at this point, but perhaps we should move along?"
Ethan turned back to the buttons, should he listen, just once more?
He breathed in and pressed the off button.
The voice talked on once more, this time of victory, freedom, and happiness, so much different from his own choice, the one that seemed to have brought him here.
He went down the walkway as it became lit up and towards the door but not with much pep or purpose.
He didn't know if he wanted to go back where he had been. The loneliness had begun to become suffocating before he appeared here.
It was nice to finally have sunshine after everything. Not just here, but from before.
The trees were sparse but were green.
Ethan thought he'd never see spring again.
"What do you think, Ethan? Not too over the top, was it? Give me your honest opinion."
"It was neat, I really wanted to see what happened next."
He wanted to say something else, some sort of big compliment.
"Hey, if it's okay with you, could I tell the story to my daughter?"
"Really?" They seemed to be absolutely ecstatic, "Well, you might not be able to deliver it quite as well as myself, but yes, I would be honored."
"Thank you."
"Thank you, Ethan. I wish you luck wherever you end up."
Those were the final words the voice said to them as Ethan stepped out of the facility.
He walked out a bit, wondering what all this had meant, but went still and cleared his mind.
He wanted to enjoy the sunshine as long as he had it.
~~~~~
Ethan must have closed his eyes at some point and he regretted it now.
He recognized the weightless feeling in his body. And darkness that persisted even when his eyes were open.
It was an oddly comforting place when compared to whatever he had been in.
There were so many odd things about it. So many questions he wanted answered.
But does it really matter? For all he knew it was some fantasy his mind had come up with to pass the time. Or he was going insane.
Of course being stuck in a void would be what broke him, not like he has lost multiple limbs and had his heart ripped out. Yep. Seems about right.
He was just about done berating himself for letting loneliness be his undoing before he noticed something.
There was a familiar buzz starting in his ears again.

Well, what can I say? The description for this delight says it’s a survival horror game. More like let’s see how high your blood pressure can go simulator. You as the protagonist Amanda Ripley, board the Sevastopol set out to find the flight recorder from the Nostromo. (So she can find mummy dearest.) But as soon as you’re on board things don’t seem to go to plan… The place is decommissioned and deserted, the remaining human population seem to only look out for themselves or waive their gun and aimlessly shot at people they don’t know. Personally I’ve never played this because I already suffer from high blood pressure and I don’t need it going any higher. However I watched my partner play this and my god I could feel my blood pressure spiking. Not only is this place creepy as hell. But to make matters worse you have the delightful Xenomorph stalking you ever moment you get. I’m glad we don’t have a Xbox Kinect because I later found out that if we did, any noise made would attract the Alien and we would be treated to a wonderful array of different death animations. But Sovereign I hear you say. What about the Synthetics? Those glowy eyed motherfuckers can go to hell alongside the Xenomorph. “You are becoming hysterical.” Am I bollocks! All you seem to do is scare the living daylights out of me and make me decide that crouching is going to be my new favourite past-time activity… Moving on!
Resident Evil Biohazard - The Baker House
Tumblr media
Now this one I am proud to say I am fully qualified to judge this as played a grand total of 10 minutes in VR might I add! So we play as Ethan Winters he gets a suspicious video email from presumed missing wife Mia. I mean come on man, she’s been missing for 3 years move on for Christ sake. But no gullible Ethan goes to said location. Another run down house with an unkempt garden. Gates are locked, any normal person would accept there loses and can’t get any further best thing to do, do a u turn out of there. But remember folks this is a video so what do? Trespass and carry on going into this swamp infested hell-hole. But what’s that in the distance? A creepy-ass figure just having a mooch along, do we call out to them, apologise for being on their land or ask for their help? Nah… After rummaging through an out-house we see a hand bag. Plot twist it’s got Mia’s driving license. Now if it were me I’d call the police. But alas we continue. After getting knocked out but the man of the house. Experiencing the dinner party from hell. Finding Mia and trying to es-cape out of there. I’m thinking this bitch has developed problems over the past 3 years, but I hear you say people can change. Not to the fucking point where she takes multiple bullets to the face and attacks us with a frickin chainsaw and we lose our hand. But in video game logic we staple the fucker back on. In my mind, Ethan divorce this bitch and move on with your life you could do so much better! Oh also Jack Baker has no regard for any structural integrity. Next!
Mount Massive Asylum - Outlast
Tumblr media
I mean come on what was I thinking when I bought this one at the young naïve age of 17? Ok Red Barrels what on earth where you thinking ok? Survival Horror Game? More like have your pants yanked down having a stiffy shoved up your arse at every beck and call. Miles Upshaw bless his poor soul tasked to investigate the Murkoff Corporation. He gets his camcorder and wanders in the courtyard. Seeing a shadow he scribbles down something in this notebook. Scribble in your notebook? Mate I’d throw it to the ground and leg it out of there. But no this dumb-ass does a bit of parkour and hops in through a window. Again with the trespassing. Must be a thing. Tensions arise as the lights go out, so night-vison mode activated on the camcorder. Continuing to wander aimlessly through this nightmare, squeezing pass furniture. When I attempted to play as soon as I saw the brain-dead patients staring at static I knew I was in for 6 months of sleepless nights. Creeping past these lot, you press on, opening doors having a Charles Xavier wannabe leap out of his wheelchair utters pure nonsense. Being tempted to slap this bitch a few times but instead you just yeet this guy like he’s nothing. But two events that take the biscuit, the poor soul ready for a spit-roasting as his is impaled on a pole. Oh and being thrown of a balcony pretty sure through a window if memory serves me right, and passing out and having the pedo-looking priest saying I’ve been sent by God and that I’m an apostle. Outlast I think not.

Tumblr media
The universe was silent and the only thing breaking the silence was his steady breath as he slept next to you. But you couldn't sleep any more because for the first time in your life, reality was so much better. Still, you were afraid if all of this was just a dream too good to be real.
You were at Damiano's place wearing one of his t-shirts, with his scent around you like a heavenly hug and him sleeping peacefully next to you.
If someone had told you one month ago that this would happen, you would have laughed at their faces telling them they belong in a mental asylum, but it was happening. You were part of his life.
Since you could not sleep, you wandered around a bit, and you ended up staring at the books in the library. An old leather one caught your eye, so you gently took it in your hands, only to discover that it was a book of poetry.
Sitting on the couch, you started flipping through it without being able to understand a word until you felt a gentle caress on your neck. You turned your head just to find yourself in front of the image of a half-asleep Roman God. He was breath-taking!
‘’What are you doing here? Why aren't you in bed with me?’’ his husky voice made your heart melt. ‘’I reached out in my sleep you touch you, but you weren’t there’’
‘’I couldn't sleep, so I read something, or at least I tried. I'm so sorry,’’you said apologetically.
‘’Sorry for what?’’ he asked, confused
‘’For touching your stuff without permission,’’you said hesitantly
He sighed. ‘’Amore, mi casa su casa, okay?’’
‘’Okay’’you agreed, giving him a shy smile.
‘’So, let's see what you got here,’’he said as he was sitting on the couch next to you. ‘’Ah, poetry! Seems like I got myself a dark academia kind of girl.’’ he laughed softly.
You watched him as he lazily flipped through the book, as if looking for something specific. ‘’Oh, here we are,’’ he said, and without looking at you, he started reading.
‘’Vita de la mia vita,
Tu mi somigli pallidetta oliva
O rosa scolorita
Né di beltà sei priva,
Ma in ogni aspetto tu mi sei gradita,
O lusinghiera o schiva;
E se mi segui o fuggi
Soavemente mi consumi e struggi"
You only understood a few words, but it sounded like the most beautiful thing in this world. ‘’So, what does it mean?’’
‘’Oh, this? It's just a silly poem. Nothing important,’’ he said as he put the book down, but deep down you knew there was something more that he did not tell you.
‘’Avanti woman! We're going back to bed,’’he said, and without waiting for your answer he threw you over his shoulder and started walking towards the bedroom, gently slapping your butt when you tried to protest.
‘’Damiano, put me down!’’you laughed.
‘’As my queen commands,’’ he said, and he laid you down on the bed as if you were made of glass, and he didn't want to break you. He looked at you, straight in your eyes, and you felt like the world stopped moving. There was nothing but you, him and this moment.
‘’Sei bellissima. Ho un debole per te’’ he whispered, and the only thing you understood was that he had called you beautiful.
'’I’m sure you say that to every person you meet. It’s part of your charm’’
‘’Oh no no’’ he laughed, ‘’I only say that to the special ones’’
‘’You make every one feel special when you are on that stage singing your heart out’’ you teased him.
‘’That’s different’’ he said, and he rolled over to the other side of the bed. You moved, so your eyes could meet ‘’When I am on the stage i- It’s like I am in my own world. There is just me and the music. But here, now with you, I am just a simple boy who is-’’ he sighed. At that moment, you knew that he wanted to say more, but he also didn't want to ruin the moment, so you just crawled closer to him and hid your face in his neck, getting drunk on his scent.
‘’Mi sto innamorando di te’’ he whispered into your hair, hoping you were fast asleep.
As the months passed, you became closer not only to Damiano but to the whole gang, too. Victoria treated you like a sister, and Thomas was like the best friend you never had. Even Ethan felt really open around you and started playfully teasing you sporadically. Being with them almost all day helped you improve your Italian, so you could respond to his teasing, which made him laugh every time.
It was one of these days when you were hanging out together at the Måneskin House while they were working on a new song. So as always you started wandering into the house having Chilli following you around making your heart melt.
You entered your room- well, Damiano’s room, actually, but it was the same thing. You laid down on the bed, burying your face into his pillow, so you could breathe the smell of his hair. Lost in your daydream you suddenly heard the sound of paper being torn and raising your head you found Chili playing with a piece of paper.
‘’Chilli no!’’ you said, taking the paper out of her mouth. As you looked to see if the paper was still in good condition, you let a few minutes pass before you realized what exactly it was.
It was a copy of the poem that Damiano had read to you that night, months ago. Only now you could understand what the words meant.
Reading it again, the truth hit you like a train.
‘’Life of my life, you seem to me
Like some pallid olive tree,
Or the faded rose I see:
Nor do you lack beauty,
But pleasing in every way to me,
In shyness or in flattery,
Whether you follow me or flee,
Consume, destroy me softly.’’
It was not just a silly poem, as he had said. It was a confession of his feelings for you.
As a film, all your moments with him started playing in your mind. When lost in your eyes he whispered words to you in Italian so softly that with difficulty you grasped some words and lost as you were at the moment you did not want to ask him what his words meant.
You felt his arms wrapped around you and his breath falling gently into your ear as he whispered, Ti amo piu di ogni altra cosa al mondo’’ his voice sent shivers down your spine.
‘’Zitto e baciami.’’ you breathed.
‘’As my queen commands’’ he said with a smirk before he crushes your lips with his.

Apparently in the last section of Sean's playthrough, he said something along the lines of disliking Ethan as his character/character arc seemed weak?
All the power to him, of course. You're free to like and dislike whoever, no one can dictate that for you. But I feel like a part of that dislike, or the dislike a lot of people have in general towards Ethan, just stems from comparing him so much to other Res Evil protagonists and finding him a downgrade because of that.
He isn't at all like Chris, or any other protag that came before him that are basically badass supersoldiers who know what they're doing.
He's literally just... a guy. Which makes it all the more tragic as this wasn't a life he was meant to have. Aside from him being mold (but still unaware of it), his life had been as normal as it could get. He went through hell and back to save his missing fiancé in 7 despite the trauma and bodily harm he had to go through because let's face it, even Mia was more equipped for that than he was. He knew fuck all about what was going on, all he knew was that upon first finding his fiancé, she was terrified of whoever has her captive, and those same people are going to fucking kill them at any given moment.
He wasn't trained for any of that. His job before all that was a system engineer in LA for fuck's sake, he was just caught in the middle of it all. But still, he continued to persevere, all to save her.
3 years later, he finds himself in another mess where his daughter is kidnapped and his wife is dead. What does he do? He doesn't hesitate before getting up and heading straight back into hell—ignoring his injuries because it isn't Ethan Winters if he actually understood the severity of the damage he's taken—all to save his daughter and ignoring his grief, knowing that saving what remains of his family was more important than his own personal feelings.
I found Ethan's death as depressing as it was because I knew that this wasn't the life he envisioned, but he sacrificed it all again to save his family, and I don't doubt that if he was still alive, he'd do it all again for them. Unlike those before him that had training or at least experience in fighting, he was nothing but a civilian who wanted his family to live and be safe and happy, and I adored him for that.
So, my apologies to Sean, but
“Ethan, you're kind of a terrible father. A terrible husband and a terrible father.”
I have to wholeheartedly disagree :")

Okay but honestly everyone (besides Mia) doubted Ethan and his abilities the entirety of the game- especially Chris.
Obviously all the lords are like “ha ha you’ll never get past me!” And then insert picacho surprised meme when he does.
Even Miranda seems to be like “whAT THE FUCK” when Ethan stumbles his way back to fight her after she swore she killed him. Like yes she knew he was “special” somehow but never realized the full extent of his abilities.
But Chris himself doubted Ethan the most honestly.
I feel like when Chris and his team found and got Ethan and Mia out of the Baker’s house in RE7, he probably just thought Ethan was lucky. I mean, here’s this totally average guy and you’re telling me he killed/ severely injured the members of this family who had been infected with the mold, as well as killed Eveline himself? Like Chris was probably like while this man definitely was able to fight his way out there’s no actual way he was able to do this on his own, maybe he’s over exaggerating or whatever.
But he doesn’t say anything, and offers to teach Ethan military training (at least I think it was Chris, only because they seem to be more familiar with each other in RE8) because even if he’s over exaggerating the man clearly has talent and capabilities to make it out of that house in relatively one piece.
And then they get into training and Chris is incredibly impressed. For what appears to be your typical average dude he’s got pretty good fight tactics and techniques, and can handle a gun pretty well. Of course there’s always stuff to improve on and Chris teaches him to the best of his abilities, and here he gets to know Ethan.
This is a man who always offers help to anyone who needs it, and goes out of his way to comfort people whenever they need it. He truly loves his wife, he never makes a “gotta get back to the old ball and chain” or other “I hate my wife” jokes, he truly appreciates her and respects her with every part of him.
He has a great intuition, both in fighting and just when reading people. When Chris or someone around them has an off day he immediately picks up on it and is able to sense what that person needs. With Chris he will casually mention that his door is always open, he might not know the answer but Ethan is always willing to listen if Chris needs it. And though Chris at first insists that he’s fine, somehow Ethan Winters gets him to open up a bit (not completely, but Ethan’s genuine kindness begins to crack Chris’ ‘tough guy’ mask he puts on that lets Ethan see a glimpse of the real him. Chris’ squad is in utter shock of this because it took them YEARS to achieve this), and they both can sit down and share the horrors they both have experienced and for once in Chris’ life he starts to feel that maybe he can actually recover from what he’s seen.
Ethan also somehow knows exactly what to say. Though sometimes he’ll have to pause to get the right words and thoughts together, when he finally speaks his words are exactly what Chris (and others) needed to hear, even if Chris won’t admit it.
Ethan is the guy who when he sees injustice he doesn’t stay quiet, he is loud and makes sure that whatever happened doesn’t go unnoticed. He somehow remembers everyone’s birthday and gets them the present that they actually want, even if the person and Ethan have only talked once.
And though Ethan has the capability to be serious when needed he can be light hearted and funny, and though sometimes his jokes are simple puns or the same reiteration of the joke you’ve heard 100 times you can’t help but laugh because he somehow made it sound different, somehow breathed some fresh life into it. He has his favorite shows that he always makes sure he is home by to watch, and though he is at his core gentle and kind he can also be tough, and isn’t afraid to call you out when you’re wrong.
Ethan is the least judgmental person you will ever meet, and is truly open minded and will listen to you completely and openly. He isn’t afraid to change his opinion when he realizes he was wrong. When him and Mia throw a Christmas party they always invite Chris and he is always touched by it.
It is through their time together training that Chris realizes that while yes Ethan is a completely normal man he is far from completely ordinary and boring.
And when he announces he’s going to be a father Ethan’s eyes completely light up, and he spends hours of talking about all the beautifully mundane things that accompany preparing to become a parent and dealing with the trials of Mia’s pregnancy. There is no doubt in Ethan’s voice or heart that lead anyone to believe that he thinks that there’s a possibility that Rose might be unhealthy due to both of their exposure to the mold. Ethan runs on optimism and truly believes that she’ll be alright, that though they’ve been through hell him and Mia finally got the happy ending they deserve, and Chris has never been so happy for him.
And then, of course, everything comes crashing down.
When Chris learns that Miranda has infiltrated the Winters’ home he is infuriated on their behalf (can’t this family catch a fucking break?) and does all he can to help them (but little does he know he actually will make it worse). He doesn’t tell Ethan whats going on because they need the element of surprise to get Miranda and Chris knows Ethan will not lie low until he gets there. While Ethan was incredibly lucky to survive Dulvey there’s no way he can survive Miranda’s wrath.
(Also I think there was a document saying they didn’t know if Ethan was compromised or not, hence why Chris didn’t tell Ethan immediately what was going on but still he was over the line)
When Chris discovers that his team escorting Ethan, Rose, and Miranda had crashed and died, leaving Miranda in sole control of Rose he is devastated but thinks to himself that he must keep going, there’s no time to grieve or feel guilty for mistakes when Miranda is moments away from completing her ceremony.
And then he gets word that Ethan Winters has been spotted in the castle. And he shakes his head because of course he’s still alive, Ethan must run on luck and sheer will because how else would he have survived the crash?
And though Chris wants to go after him to tell him to sit his ass down so his team can do their job he can’t because again time is a luxury he can’t afford and he hopes Ethan’s luck saves his ass again this time. And though he hopes for the best can Ethan really take on these god-like creatures?
And then he again gets word that Ethan Winters somehow is defeating all of the lords. He’s going through them as if they’re simply ants beneath his feet and somehow he is still going. And though this is great Chris and his team are rapidly losing the element of surprise they’ve been trying to maintain since coming to this village.
And when he encounters Ethan again it almost hurts to see this man who once sat with him for hours talking about nothing, offering to help him with his taxes look at him with such fury and disdain that it almost sends shivers down his spine, that even though Chris is a highly trained operative he for some reason feels like if Ethan chose to kill him Chris wouldn’t last long. He wants to explain but time won’t let him (or is it the fear that he was wrong all along and once he spits his words out he’ll realize this).
And when Chris runs into Ethan at Karl’s factory he finally gives up and figures that he could use Ethan’s luck on his team, if Ethan can eliminate the four lords without any military help then he’s got to be able to have a shot and killing Miranda with Chris’ and his team’s help.
And when he hears Miranda kill Ethan on the phone it is a blow to his gut that he wasn’t expecting, because Ethan Winters has made a bigger impact on his heart than he thought possible. And it is in this moment of grief that he realizes his mistakes, that he was wrong to alienate Ethan, the man who went through hell twice without looking back to save his family.
The guilt only gets worse when he finds Mia, because he has to explain to her that it’s his fault that her husband is lying dead without his heart due to Chris’ own negligence. And when Mia tells him that he doesn’t understand how special he is he desperately wants to hear it, despite his mind telling him that’s she’s wrong, he wants Mia to tell him that Ethan can survive the impossible because he wants a second chance to make things right.
And when he gets the report again that Ethan Winters is somehow alive and is on his way to the ceremony site Chris’ heart soars and he wonders how could he have ever doubted Ethan Winters and his ability to come back to the people he loves time and time again.
(Also I could be wrong here because I don’t remember if Miranda blocked Chris out once she realized he was there but the rest of this is going to go off of the assumption that Chris was present and could see what was happening)
It is not until Chris makes it to the ceremony site and sees the battle between Miranda and Ethan that Chris truly realizes that he has severely underestimated this man for 3 whole years.
He’s seen Ethan fight before- he saw it in training and heard his squad give him the summary of what they saw when Ethan fought the other lords, but this is the first time Chris has seen Ethan TRULY fight, and on his face where Chris is so used to seeing compassion and love and carefreeness is suddenly replaced by anger, resentment, and pure determination because his daughter’s life is on the line and he will fight until there is nothing left of him to keep that little girl safe.
Chris watches in awe, because even though Ethan looks like he is barely staying together, like he is one breath away from falling apart he is still fighting. Maybe it’s because the mold is being destroyed or maybe Ethan’s injuries are so severe that the mold can’t be bothered hiding itself anymore but he finally sees the proof for himself that Ethan Winters is no longer human- Miranda is tearing into him and Ethan does not care- the long gashes she makes onto his body are desperately trying to suture themselves back together with small tendrils of black, this mold desperately trying to keep Ethan together when Miranda is so intent on tearing him apart.
He watches in amazement as Ethan somehow manages to avoid her claws and her own tendrils of mold reaching out to pound him into dust. He watches in amazement as it doesn’t matter how much Miranda damages Ethan- he gets back up again to unload another round of bullets into Miranda without slowing down, and watches in amazement as Ethan actually begins to win this battle- this perfectly normal man versus a god-like creature and Ethan is actually winning despite all the odds stacked against him.
This is Ethan Winters, he thinks, and while the mold might have given him regenerative properties the mold did not give him the drive and determination Chris sees before him- though Ethan Winters is infected but he is still Ethan Winters, each bullet he fires is coming from him, and his pure will to survive and save his daughter. The mold did not change him to a super hero because this is who he is at heart, a man who is willing to risk it all just to make sure the ones he loves are all right.
And if he didn’t already respect Ethan before he certainly does now, and he curses himself for being so ignorant and not letting Ethan in when he had the chance.
But that’s alright- because Ethan Winters has just eliminated Miranda before his eyes and is running to his daughter, and now Chris will have a lifetime to make it up to him.
But then he sees Ethan collapse to his knees in front of him, and his feet are moving before he even thinks to go because there’s no way, this man did not survive this hell just to die on him now.
Chris is relieved that Ethan is still (barely) conscious as he puts his arm around the man to help him out. Time has never been on their side and it certainly isn’t now, as Chris practically drags Ethan out because he has failed him too many times and he refuses to fail him again.
He tries to get Ethan to keep fighting because it seems that all of the life has drained from this man, the only part of him that’s full of life is the arm carrying his daughter because even when he’s on the brink of death he will not let anything happen to her. Chris brings up Mia and it pains him to hear the loss in Ethan’s voice, as if he’s already decided he’s a lost cause. Chris will not let this happen, he points out that they’re going to blow the village sky high and that’s why they need to get a move on and-
Suddenly Ethan is pushing Rose into his arms, and Chris can’t believe he gets the privilege to hold this man’s daughter after all he’s done and Ethan is draping Rose in his worn out coat and begging Chris to teach her to be strong and Chris won’t have this, Ethan Winters will not die on his watch he will get home to his family and live to live a perfectly normal life, when suddenly Ethan pushes Chris out of the way of a mold tendril that acts as a barrier between them and Chris watches in horror as Ethan stumbles backwards, the man looking more and more like a walking corpse versus the man he just saw moments ago, full of life and determination to kill Miranda.
“Goodbye, Rosemary” Ethan chokes out as he starts to stumble his way back to the ceremony site, and Chris can almost feel the pain of Ethan’s loss at not being able to be with his daughter and wife just within the utterance of these two words.
And Chris is calling Ethan back because dammit it doesn’t have to be like this but Chris knows what a man hell bent on something looks like, and Ethan is already almost out of his sight and the whole village is collapsing around him.
Cursing Chris turns around, cradling Rose close because Ethan somehow miraculously chose to trust Chris in protecting her and like hell will he let something happen to her after this. Chris will teach her to be strong and how to be brave, and not because he’s a man and Mia is incapable of it, but Chris will teach Rose how to be strong like her father was, and how to defend herself because both he and Ethan know that Rose’s abilities will make her a constant target for people to use for their own gain.
When Chris hands Rose back to Mia the joy on her face is short lived and suddenly she’s demanding where Ethan is, begging them to put the plane back down because there’s no way in hell he’d leave them willingly and just as Chris utters that Ethan chose to sacrifice himself the bomb goes off and he feels another blow to his chest, and it’s as though he can’t breathe for a second. He sees the realization hit Mia, and that though Ethan has survived the impossible time and time again can he really survive being blown to bits?
Chris can barely contain the grief and guilt that is consuming him as he looks out the window at the site where Ethan Winters’ luck has run out, the site where Ethan Winters has now died for the second time.
He glances back at Mia and Rose, and each sob Mia lets out cuts him like a knife because he knows he is responsible. He promised this little family that he would protect them and he failed. He failed Mia, he failed Ethan, and now he has failed Rosemary as she must now navigate her life missing a father who would have done anything for her.
Chris will not let Ethan die in vain. He will protect Rose, he will teach her how to fight and how to defend herself. And though he wants to reach out and comfort Mia he knows it will be unwelcome, but looking at Rose he will not fail her again.
He made a promise to Ethan Winters that he fully intends on keeping.
I’m sorry what did I do to be so emotionally attacked like this 😆
Tumblr media
I’m SOBBING OMG. Ty really. I feel like I have nothin I can add to this because GAH MY HEART. You get it. You understand these characters and I was smiling so huge as you described Ethan because YES ALL OF THIS. Then the pain as Ethans end approaches. AND CHRIS’ PERSPECTIVE THROUGHOUT AND HIS PROMISE GOING FORWARD.
Anyway someone get me tissues. This was so beautiful. Bless you 💜💜

@sunhalf : ❛ when you kill the lights and kiss my eyes, i feel like a person for a moment of my life. ❜ for mia / ethan
It's become a habit, waking up together. Something that Ethan needs like breathing. Always the same and he loves that it is--A few twists of ash brown hair pressed against his cheek, near-silent breathing the only sound in their room, a hand lingering sleepily in a grasp around his upper arm. For his part, he's fit at her side like a puzzle piece. Legs slotted into the space in front of hers and torso close enough to reach if needed. Ethan can snake his arms around, careful and quiet, to tap the corner pillow under Mia's head gently if needed, if her breathing goes too quick or her brow creases more than he likes.
Both always wake him / Everything always wakes him. Each sense and nerve of his body attunes to her in the quiet and he wouldn't have it any other way. Not even when he's woken for the fourth time tonight because of his own fear--His knotted shoulders already curling up to his ears each time the images behind his eyes finally fade. Blinking, who'd have thought, brings him back to her, to this place so far away from where they've been before. To their home where being together has replaced being apart. With two shaking hands, Ethan takes a soft hold of a few strands of Mia's hair that have crept over his skin in the dark. Folds them over one another into a braid not fit to be seen or worn out.
But it's grounding. Knowing she's here, that he's not alone and won't ever be again. Tomorrow they'll wake up together and every awful thing his mind won't let him escape will just have to wait. He lifts the braid to his lips and kisses it tenderly, praying he still hasn't woken up the only person he knows that sleeps more poorly than he does. Ethan still isn't good at asking for help, at knowing what he really needs. Weathering a few nightmares of being chewed to pieces and swallowed up by Eveline's mold, of Mia's blood-curdling scream when he lost sight of her, of Jack Baker's gore spraying over his face and his eyes, his eyes, has never been more worth it when he gets to wake up to this. So even though he's still trying to even out his breathing, Ethan forces it away like water falling down his back / Holds that braid against his cheek like a lifeline as his fingertips twitch / Lets his mind wander toward the person beside him instead of behind her. It's what matters--Now and them. A stupid thing to make him cry, maybe, but he has to force his eyes to glare up at the ceiling so the feeling doesn't overwhelm him. That he's here and not there. That they're here and not there.

Rules when requesting Resident Evil: Village Head-canons!
Heyo pps!! So I decided to take on some requests on some Resident Evil: Village Head-canons! 🤗🤗
So here are a few rules when requesting, due to either something making me uncomfortable or something I just can't do in general.
Family Dynamic or Ship Dynamic? -
I honestly don't mind what ship you request. You want Family? You got it! You want ship? Ask away!
If you don't like the ship dynamics, just filter them out. 🤗
Ships I can do:
Here are ones I am comfortable doing when it comes to ship scenarios!
BelaDonna.
Benetrescu. (Lady Dimitriscu x Donna)
Lord x S/O.
Mia x Ethan. (Easier cause they are married!)
Lord x Maiden/Servant. (Choose gender or have it neutral, up to you.🤗)
If you have a ship you wish to enquire about though, do feel free to ask! You won't know unless you ask. 💕🤗💕
Ships I can't Do. -
Some are pretty obvious as to why!
Lady Dimitriscu x Daughter. (Parents aren't allowed to date their children! Adopted or not!)
Heisenberg x Ethan. (For the life of me, I can't write about them. Like the ship, but can't write it myself. 🤣)
Moreau x Another Lord. (I just don't see it personally, hence why I can do him with an S/O.)
Angie x Anyone. (Seriously why? She is a doll!)
Donna x Angie. (My hand to God I saw this and really questioned life there.)
Does it have to be Ship or Family Dynamic?
Not necessarily. If you have read my "Giant Baby Fetus Monster is real?!" Part 1 and 2 head canon, you will know that I don't always do it by those two (2) alone. Again this all comes down to what you may be asking of me to do. I can try some A.U's as well, such as everyone lives or they raise Rose or is an extended family to the Winters Family and they interact often, etc, if you like. 🤗
Genres and Scenarios I can do? -
I find most genres and scenarios pretty easy to do. Examples:
Hurt/comfort.
Angst/suspense.
Family scenarios.
Couple/ship scenarios.
Silly/parody scenarios.
Just ask me what you want. I shall confirm or not if I can do it and do my best to see what I can do.
Scenarios I can't do?-
NSFW content. Not even what leads up to the moment. I have never been comfortable writing that sort of stuff personally and can mostly read it just fine before I just skip over the part. Sorry.
If I find anything uncomfortable actually, I will let you know. 🤗
How shall I request a Head-Canon? -
It's pretty simple actually, just go to the ask me box and ask away.
Here is the two examples of the layout I wish to be used to help me better understand what you are looking for.
Example 1:
Dynamic - *Family Dynamic*
Genre - *Insert Genre Here.*
Scenario - *Insert Scenario Here.*
Example 2:
Dynamic - *Ship Dynamic.*
Ship - *Insert Ship Here.*
Genre - *Insert Genre Here.*
Scenario - *Insert Scenario Here.*
Example 3:
Au - *Insert AU Here.*
Genre - *Insert Genre Here.*
Scenario - *Insert Scenario Here.*
Pretty basic! If you have more than one, please make sure to keep them separate, as to help me not get confused.
What can you do in return? -
Absolutely nothing! 💕🤗💕
The only thing I ever ask in return is patience while waiting and to help me understand some things if I ever ask you to clarify your request. 😁😁
If you ever wish to use them as inspiration in writing or drawing, then by all means do so. All I ask in return is that you give me credit for the idea and to tag me! 💕🤗💕
_____________________
What about the tags?
Fairly simple actually. If it's a Family Dynamic, I shall hashtag it as such. If it's a Ship Dynamic then again, I shall hashtag it as that.
And there you have it! I hope it was easy to understand.
If you happen to be someone who can do the NSFW scenarios actually, feel free to comment and say so, and I can send them your way if you want? 🤗🤗
That's it! Hope you all have a great day!
💪😎💕

RCW's RE7 CONTINUITY:
RCW: Biohazard
in the re7 continuity of Raccoon City Winters i feel like Mia was more sympathetic towards Eveline considering her and Ethan had strikingly similar upbringings; minimal socializing, constant tests ran on them, the needles.
I feel she was torn between taking Eveline away and staying with the Connections in order to help Ethan and it made her feel like shit the entire time. Especially when she had been lying to Ethan about working with the Connections.
She justifies it in her head, saying it would hurt Ethan more if she told him she had been working in a similar place his father had been working in, for a reason almost the same. She knows it's a shit thing, to lie to him like this, but she really wouldn't be able to stomach the look he would give her, and maybe that's selfish but she hates to see him hurt.
And then Eveline, who was young and only wanted a family ("like Ethan did," her brain yelled at her) to grow up with. Eveline, who smiled up at her even after going through the worst tests imaginable and finds comfort in her presence, like Ethan did, every time. Eveline who cries because she knows she's too dangerous to have a real family, but wants to try- hopes she could anyway, like Ethan did.
Mia considers it, running away with Eveline, back home to Ethan and Kyde and stay as far away from California as they could. She planned it out, the whole situation, down from the moment she got Eveline out of that basically a cell for a room to buying a house under a different name in god-damned Romania if she had to.
She accepts her plan as half-baked but the overwhelming guilt and sympathy in her heart allows her to forget about that.
Then the ship, sprung on her that they would be moving Eveline somewhere. The hurricane, Eveline's freakout, Mia's promises of taking Eveline with her and being her mother, the mold.
That night, before the two of them were knocked out of that ship, Eveline cried in Mia's arms for the destruction she caused, and Mia held her and cried for the feeling of failure weighing on her soul.
And when Mia hits the water, when she starts to fall unconscious, she only thinks of how Eveline said she hated storms before, just like Ethan does.
-
And Mia wakes up at the Baker's, and they tell her they rescued her, she deliriously asked if they also found a young girl, if they found Eveline. They tell her not yet, tell her to rest and they promise they'll help find her little girl. She rests, but wakes up again later, unable to keep her eyes closed. She writes on a paper she found just about everything she knew about Eveline and herself, trying to recollect her thoughts when she noticed them fading.
She falls unconscious again before finishing the paper, and she's unable to defuse Eveline's fear and anger before the Baker's are under her control.
-
The years that pass, Mia spends trying to convince Eveline that they can leave the Baker's and start anew. Eveline refuses, too scared that the Connections will come for them if they leave this house. She compromised with the shots that slowed her aging, why couldn't Mommy compromise with her? Did she hate her? Did she secretly want to abandon her? Whenever Eveline asked the answers were always, "No, no Evie I don't want to abandon you but we can't stay here forever, eventually we'll run out of resources for your shots, I don't want you to die, and you'll die after too long without them."
Eveline is content with it, with dying, if she gets to stay with Mommy the whole time. When she told her that, Mommy cried and apologized to her. Eveline never knew why she kept saying sorry, but she stopped saying she would be okay with dying because Mommy crying made her cry.
As the Baker's become cannibalistic and murderous under Eveline's control, she becomes more prideful of herself. Mia doesn't know what to do, how to stop these people from dying, falls under a state of depression. She tries to talk to Eveline, tries to tell her to stop, though Eveline only tells her that she wants to find her Mom someone to be with since she was so sad all the time. Mia knows its a part of Eveline's powers, but the look of innocence in her eyes breaks her down and she stops opposing.
Eventually, Mia tells Eveline about Ethan. Talks about how Ethan loved her more than anything in the world, laments that she shouldn't have lied to him when she only wanted to help him, tells Eveline she only wanted to leave this house so they could be with him. Eveline listens, asks her if she misses Ethan a lot, latches on to the reason she gave for wanting to leave.
Mia tells Eveline she did, that she missed Ethan more than anything in the world, and before she knew it she was unconscious again.
-
Ethan's arrival sparked something in Eveline's soul. She felt angry, at first that this man was the reason Mom would be willing to risk herself and her freedom to be with. She makes Mom fight him a few times, so angry at him for being the reason her family almost broke apart.
Then she watches him cry. She watches this man sit next to his wife each time they fought and cry, even holding her at the risk of her waking up again and hurting him. Eveline sees a man who loved her Mommy so much he would risk dying to mourn her hurt.
And, the final time Mom falls because of Ethan, he didn't move at all, crying on his knees as he held her in his arms. He hardly looks away from Mom when Jack attacks him and even when he kills him.
Eveline realized, when he woke again, his thoughts now shared with hers due to their new connection through the mold, that he loved Mom just as much as she did. She tests him, makes him fight with Grandmother and Grandfather, watching over him as he stumbled through Lucas' puzzles.
Eveline starts to like this man, who loves her Mom so much he'd died and came back to life with her as the only thing on his mind.
-
They nearly escaped, in that stupid little boat. Eveline cried when they both fell in the water. She hadn't mean to do that, hadn't meant to hit the boat directly. She panicked, pulled them both out of the water. She may be angry at Mom and Dad for nearly leaving her but she didn't want them to die.
She helps Mom remember things she forgot, everything that lead up to this. Mom cried again, and Eveline cries for her too.
She talks to Dad, in his head, and she scared him but he doesn't let that get in the way of talking to her. He shows her kindness, sympathy, tells her he doesn't want her to hurt.
Eveline cries to herself, as Mia frees Ethan and pushes him away, afraid she would hurt him. Eveline doesn't make Mom do anything except sleep, lets her rest for all that these years and this day has troubled her.
She talks to Ethan in person again, cried because he was so much more than nicer than he had to be. Cried because she understood now, why Mom wanted to be with him again, cried because she kept them away from each other for so long. Ethan convinces her to let her control of the house go, and she collapsed into the hug he gave her, so so tired.
-
Ethan held Eveline protectively in his arms when he met Redfield, not letting this child who has been through so, so much out of his sight. He doesn't trust these people, but they're helping Mia despite what she'd done so he held back his hostility.
He refused to let them take Eveline from his arms, she was tired and none of them looked like they knew how to carry a tired child.
They have to do check-ups every month during the first year, but they're allowed to stay together. They have to move to Europe, "Romania, huh?" Mia thinks to herself when she heard it, realizing that she'd gotten her wish- just differently than she expected, and no one could know where they lived but otherwise they would be fine. They keep in contact with Zoe, and Kyde (who doesn't wait to say "I told you so," to Ethan but still shows he's happy Mia was found and well,) throughout the years.
Eveline gets a final shot that was able to stabilize her aging process, and she's able to go with no more needles unless absolutely necessary. Mia tells Ethan everything she had been there for, promising to never keep another secret from him again, and he forgives her (he would do it either way). The three of them live happily in Romania, for all of three years.
And Eveline doesn't tell anyone that Ethan isn't Ethan like he used to be, waits for everyone to notice by themselves. They never do. And Re8 begins.
And that, my friends, is the RE7 Continuity of Raccoon City Winters; Raccoon City Winters: Biohazard!

An Essay About Resident Evil: Village That No One Asked For But I’m Posting It Anyways
So, the Beneviento House is my favorite part of Village for two reasons. One: it’s the scariest part of the game, don’t @ me. Two: On a second play through, it actually reveals a lot about the issues in Ethan and Mia’s marriage. There’s a lot to unpack here with that, but the tl;dr of it is this: I believe what Ethan experiences in House Beneviento is trip into Ethan’s psyche rather than an actual, physical event, and this trip confirms that his arguments with Mia were made worse by a) him worrying about Rose more than he worries about himself, and b) him assuming that Mia is worried about the same things he is; thus, his hallucinations of her are more a reflection of himself than they are of reality.
All of my logic and evidence is under the cut. Fair warning, it’s very long, I am so sorry, I really am. Aso, please note this is NOT a Mia-bashing post. We do not engage in Mia-bashing on this blog. Please go to someone else’s blog if you want to engage in Mia-bashing. Thank you.
There’s two important things to establish here. First: I think that 99% of what Ethan experiences in House Beneviento isn’t real, and is at least partially a manifestation of Ethan’s inner psyche. The evidence is as follows:
It makes no sense that Ethan would lose his entire inventory within the space of 0.5 seconds after the lights shut off. It makes much more sense that mind control made him think he no longer had a gun.
Several of the items and information used in the puzzles are things that Donna, logically, shouldn’t have access to. The music box was still in their home when Chris arrived (which wasn’t that long ago, keep in mind), I doubt Miranda cared enough to find out Rose’s preferred toys and the identity of who gifted them the music box, and there’s no way Donna would be able to get that picture of “Mia’s” dead body. Mia’s wedding ring is tentatively on this list, too; Donna would have access to it, since Mia was being held captive at the time, but I can’t remember if Mia is still wearing it when Chris saves her, so put that one down as a “maybe.”
You stab Angie (or, more properly, stab Donna) for the final time in the back room by the elevator. However, right after stabbing and killing her, you are suddenly by the front door again, the main part of the house is in shambles in a way that suggests a struggle, and you’re not holding the scissors anymore. If you try to backtrack to check the elevator, the door leading to that part of the house is locked (presumably From The Other Side, as they often are in RE).
Additionally, your entire inventory is spontaneously back in your pockets. In Biohazard, if you had inventory taken off of you, it had to be retrieved from a box later. Not this time (though, granted, this game doesn’t HAVE inventory boxes, but it’s an interesting detail when combined with everything else).
All of this, to me, points to Ethan having probably never left the main foyer throughout the majority of that mind trip. As for the hallucinations being fueled mostly by his psyche, a diary entry from the gardener mentions that the plants made him hallucinate his deceased wife, and as mentioned above, a lot of the puzzle relates to things specific and personal to Ethan. While I don’t doubt that Donna could and probably did influence the hallucination a bit (she is a puppet master after all), the building blocks were all there in Ethan’s head.
Second Important Thing to Establish: Ethan was completely missing the point during his arguments with Mia in the lead up to Village.
I’m of the opinion that the fights Ethan mentions in his diary were not a constant thing. I think they only started, at the earliest, while Mia was pregnant, but for sure after Rose was born. This is because pretty much all the canon evidence we see about their fights circles back to Rose. The diary entry where Ethan describes the fight they had is dated four days before Ethan’s death; meanwhile, the flashback fight (which is most likely of that very fight) is triggered by a conversation about Rose’s doctor’s visit and uses language that implies a lot of their talks (and presumably arguments) about “staying positive” have to do specifically with Rose and the move.
It’s also worth keeping in mind how much of Ethan’s thoughts about Dulvey and moving past it are related to Rose. Like, yeah, I’m sure he wants Mia to heal for her own good and he’d like to heal for his own good. That’s to be expected. But whenever he talks about moving to Europe and healing from Dulvey, it’s also about doing it for Rose and for her benefit (“so we can live our lives with Rose without it hanging over our heads” in the diary, “We moved here so that she wouldn’t have to deal with any of that” in the argument with “Mia” at the start). Additionally, in the flashback he says, “[Rose]’s going to be fine, I just know it. What else matters?” Rose is Ethan’s #1 priority and much of his concern is focused on her.
But—and this is the important thing here—not all of Mia’s is. The end of the game reveals that Mia knew, most likely as a result of her pregnancy with Rose, that Ethan was a megamycete hybrid.  In the flashback fight, she says, “I keep telling you, it’s not Rose that I’m worried about”, and the one moment when she truly explodes on him is after he implies that the only thing that matters is Rose’s safety. “We matter, Ethan! YOU matter! You just won’t-” Her exact words. We never find out what the won’t is, but I have a feeling what she’s getting at is that Ethan is unwilling to look past his worries about Rose and always circles the argument back to her. Now, we don’t see this directly, as we’re only privy to one real argument of theirs (Miranda being bitchy doesn’t count), but there’s past evidence to suggest this was probably the case.
The thing about Ethan is that he can be single-minded in his protective instinct, and we’ve known this since the last game. There’s a little throwaway moment in Biohazard where Mia thanks Ethan for choosing to save her over Zoe. He responds “Who the hell else was I going to choose?” with like, zero hesitation, and she seems taken aback by the response. Now, of course, Mia being his choice makes sense, she’s the whole reason he came here, But Zoe did still help him out, and she is still a victim in all of this. She deserved to get out of there as much as Mia did. But Ethan chose Mia without any hesitation, would have chosen her every time, and while he did promise (and keep said promise) to help Zoe, Mia was his top priority. He lost a limb (or two, depending) and dragged himself through hell for Mia—and keep in mind, this is despite him being on some level aware of the fact that she was involved in all that mess (he POINT BLANK ASKS, “You had something to do with all of this, didn’t you?”) and after she’d behaved aggressively towards him (granted, that was while she was under mind control, but that would definitely give some people pause).
Ethan cares about other people in his life first and foremost. Ethan barely cares about himself. He focuses on saving Mia at the expense of his own safety and someone else’s, and when things start getting bad again after Dulvey, his sole focus is on how it could affect Rose. I have a feeling a big part of the reasons the disagreements happened, in addition to Mia keeping information from him, was Ethan focusing on Rose’s safety, as if it’s the only thing that they could have to be worried about, and how frustrating that must have been for the woman who has seen first hand what Ethan is like and how much trouble his intense protectiveness can get him in. (Note: this does not excuse Mia from not just like. Telling him the truth, but I have my own theories about that, so we’ll leave it at “they were both talking past each other in a big way and that wasn’t helping the marriage any” because my analysis of Mia as a character is WAY beyond the scope of this post.)
Now, you’d think, you’d think with Mia having repeatedly telegraphed that Rose isn’t the problem here, that Ethan would on some level be aware of the fact that something else is going on. But he isn’t, or at least, he isn’t aware of the right things, and Beneviento House proves it.
So, Ethan is having a hell of a bad trip based off of his own insecurities and fears: his unresolved issues with Mia and his daughter’s safety. We have established above that Ethan has completely been misreading his arguments, and with that in mind, everything that Hallucination!Mia says from the second you see her gets really interesting. Starting with:
“Rose feels different. Ethan, you have to fix her” and “That’s a kick. […] She’s so energetic, it’s crazy.” Mia most likely caught on during the pregnancy that something was different about Rose. They were already ordering medical reports, including fungal pathogen testing by the BSAA, and her health was a definite source of anxiety for Ethan (his response to reading her medical file being a relieved sigh). Mia notices something is different about Rose, probably works it out, and realizes what the wider implications are for the family. Ethan is just plain worried about his daughter’s health, assumes Mia’s worries match his own, and that assumption is reflected in both the memories that come to the surface and the words his psyche put in Mia’s mouth.
“I can’t tell Ethan anything about this”, “Everyone leaves me, even Rose. I don’t want to be alone” and “I didn’t want to keep it from you. I didn’t want to lose you again. I didn’t want to destroy this family. I love you both so much. I had to. I had to do it.” Now, I don’t think the last two are anything Mia has directly said, but they all could be Ethan’s interpretation of her recent behavior. As mentioned above, he’s already aware that she’s kept at least one secret from him, and seems to know something is going on with Rose. If Mia’s not telling me, it’s because she’s worried about both of us, and doesn’t want to break up the family.
This one is a bit of conjecture and my own personal interpretation of Mia, but you’ve come this far, so hear me out: through these hallucinations, Ethan reads the aggressive secret-keeping as an attempt to keep the family together so that Mia won’t be abandoned again. I think he’s probably at least partially correct in that assumption. However, I think it’s also partially a projection of his own desires and motivations (keeping his family together at any costs). On top of that, he’s definitely missing the fact that Mia knows something is up with him as well. Telling Ethan doesn’t just potentially mean wrecking the family; it could wreck him on a personal level, and put him in a lot of danger. So while Ethan assumes it’s just about the family, there’s a lot more on Mia’s mind. That a lot more just isn’t reflected because Ethan doesn’t know.
The final bits of audio you hear are Mia crying for Rose, then repeating to herself that everything is going to be fine. Again, we know that Mia was worried about more than Rose. Ethan doesn’t. Ethan is worried about Rose first and foremost, has misread Mia due to his singular focus and lack of vital information, and in misreading Mia has created this version of events where Rose is the one who’s really in danger. Despite Mia indicating there’s more to it, he still reads what’s going on as being Rose-centered, and the fact that Rose is now genuinely in serious danger doesn’t help with that.
At the end, when Ethan says “Mia. I’ll make things right”, he’s talking about the wrong thing. He’s saying he’ll protect Rose, he’ll save her, he’ll keep her safe in a way he hadn’t been able to with Mia.
What he’s missing is the fact that, while he might’ve been just worried about Rose, Mia never was. That’s one part he can’t make right. Mia would’ve had to; she just never got the chance.
(Sidebar no one asked for, but I personally think she would have, either of her own accord or because the BSAA fungal reports (which seem to be the test results the doctor wanted to talk to them about if I’m understanding the timeline right) would’ve blown the whole thing wide open for her. It was basically inevitable. Doesn’t excuse all the secret keeping up until that point, but I like to think she would’ve come clean. Freaking MIRANDA JUST HAD TO GO AND RUIN IT THOUGH - )

Another thought about Ethan:
So I just realized, if Ethan had lived past 8... He would probably be having a major identity crisis (and possibly a existential one too.)
He now knows the truth of what happened to him and now has thoughts that "Ethan" had already died long ago in the baker house, and that he was just merely a consciousness occupying another man's husk that is now made out of mold.
He gets so self-conscious about it, constantly looking at mirrors and photos, having all these incredibly negative thoughts.
"You're not the real Ethan."
"He would hate you."
"You don't deserve this ending, he does."
"You took everything away from him."
And so much more.
It gets so bad that his family gets worried about it, especially Mia. Since she knows her hiding of that crucial secret caused him to be like this mentally.
So one day, she approaches him about it. He flinches back a little, since he wasn't expecting any company.
He says he feels like he's undeserving of all this. That "Ethan" deserves it all more than a pile of infectious mold trying to be him. That he stole his happy ending from him.
Mia feels guilt at those words, if anything... she's the one undeserving of everything remotely positive in their life right now. She should be the one getting punished for everything.
She tells him that even if he isn't the same "Ethan" she knew anymore and a completely different person. That she's still loves him regardless of what or who he is.
She even says that if the original would be able to talk to him, that he would allow him to keep his identity for everything he's done in his place.
He takes in her words for a moment, processing what she said. He still hasn't had any major changes, he still looked the same and acted the same.
If he felt a change, he would know by now right?
He thanks her for giving him a little more positivity about himself, much to Mia's surprise.
He finally stops being so self-conscious, and begins to see himself in a new light.
Aw, that's so sweet! In my view, I don't think Ethan would see himself as a new "being", just that his mind, his consciousness and memories were kept in the mold body he was turned into. Of course, that would guarantee some shock and existantial crisis. But maybe, as you said, that the Ethan he was deserved happiness with his family, and now him being in a mold body does complicate things.
But I love how Mia works through her guilt by supporting Ethan and making sure he knows she's there for him! And Ethan slowly accepting his place with her and Rose and learning to love himself and who/what he is.
Thank you for sharing! :D

I'm so happy you like the idea! Your first three words are: Rattle, Candlelight and Corset.
Oh this is gonna be interesting 🤭
Regretting
Pairing: Chris Redfield x Female OC (taken in by the Winters family as a daughter of theirs basically)
Warnings: Swearing (No Spoilers for any games don’t worry😊)
Genre: Romance, Fluff
Enjoy the mess my brain’s produced. Love, Vy ❤
“I have several questions surrounding this bullshit event!“ Gwen shouts from inside her room where she’s been getting ready for the past hour with the Captains of the BSAA keeping a watchful eye outside her door, making sure she doesn’t get any ideas of running away.
“I have as many as you do, trust me on that one.“ He replies, readjusting his tie. He hasn’t found himself in a three-piece-suit in a long time, all’s been soldier get-ups, bulletproof wests and combat boots. Truth be told, it’s not that he doesn’t want to dress nicely, he’s just rarely had any occasions worth dressing up for. Lord knows he’d be at home in this very moment, seated on the couch with a cold beer bottle in his hand. So to make the truth truer - he actively avoids places and events that would require him dressing up. It’s simply a hassle in and of itself, but dealing with the people at the even - that’s what he’s most bothered by.
“You cannot expect me to believe that’s the truth!“ Gwen shouts again, the sound of shuffling accompanying her voice.
“Leon said it was important, Jill backed him up and you know I rarely get a say when the two of them partner up to support one another.“ Chris says, sighing while reaching for a cigarette before withdrawing his hand, remembering he didn’t take his pack with him on purpose. Claire says he needs to break the habit little by little so, in order to give her peace of mind, he does try whenever she’s looking. However, when she turns away, he’s quick to light a cig, almost as quick as a dying man getting connected to life support.
“You, Leon and I have very different definitions of the word ‘important’.“ She sasses back, her voice now being the only sound coming from the room which is a sign Chris cannot decide the meaning of - is she almost done? Is she starting over with everything? Either way, he doesn’t mind. Running late to the gala the mayor’s throwing is not particularly bothering him, he actually prefers it.
What’s been bothering him is the fact that he’s found himself impatient of something else. Impatient of seeing her - not that he’d ever admit it. Him and Gwen have been friends for quite some time. Well, they did get off on the wrong foot, but were quick to arrange a relationship alike a friendship and function without wanting to gauge each other’s eyes out. Somewhere along the lines they became actual friends without even noticing.
Gwen Winters had every right to be suspicious of Captain Chris Redfield. Not that she was always wary of him or anything - seeing as how him and her ‘parents’ are friends, she never thought twice about the guy. However, when she expressed interest in joining the BSAA and earned herself a scoff from him, she was rather pissed. Being the main chemistry project of an asshole with a saving-the-world complex back in Raccoon City, it’s safe to say she got some above average strength to her name. And that’s putting it mildly. Being rescued from that lab by Leon and getting taken in by the Winters family, she’s developed her own hero complex, the need to save those who can’t save themselves always dwelling within her.
And so, despite the amusement Chris showed when she brought up the idea, she became a BSAA soldier.
“I think we established that on your very first mission, soldier.“ Chris chuckles, recalling that first mission he was so opposed to, mostly because Gwen was tagging along at her request and the allowance of Leon. He was very fucking afraid they’d have to carry her dead body out of there but the action was quick to turn the tables on him - having Gwen save his life more than once. What surprised him most though was her humbleness about it. She didn’t rub it in or nag him about having proved her point. She was just glad they had all made it out in one piece and that struck him with a whole new intensity. Almost like a wake up call.
The door beside him suddenly swings open, causing him to abruptly straighten up from his leaning position, shooting a look at the doorway from which emerges Gwen. Or at least he believes it’s her. Had he not known she was the only other person in the house at the moment, or had he seen her passing by on the street he wouldn’t have recognized her.
And he’d have every right not to: this must be the first time she has worn a dress since prom - if she even wore one then - and the same probably applies for the make-up she’s put on. It’s not much or anything, in fact the only reason he’s noticed it is because he’s so used to seeing her make-up-free face. So much so, he’d recognize even a drop of foundation if she applied it. And oh boy, is he whipped by the sight. He can lie all he wants and to whoever he wants to, but he cannot lie to himself. Especially not when his jaw has fallen to the floor, his eyes have grown wide and his heartbeat has picked up noticeably.
If Ethan could hear at least half of what Chris is thinking at the moment, he’d be as good as banned from the Winters home forever.
When Gwen’s eyes meet her Captain’s, she can’t help but smirk, “What is it, Cap? I exchange the bulletproof vest for a corset and you suddenly don’t recognize me?” She asks, raising a teasing eyebrow.
He knows it’s wrong, for so many reasons: He’s her captain, she’s his soldier; She’s an adult but he’s still significantly older than her; She’s the ‘daughter’ of a friend of his, to make matters even worse - It’s so wrong yet he can’t get the thought out of his head. It’s not just now, it’s something he’s been struggling with for quite some time. He’s constantly haunted by her: the sound of her laughter, her smile, that focused frown that appears every time she is looking at a map or a new case, analyzing its every detail, the twinkle in her eyes whenever she gets told she’ll be going on a mission and that same sparkle growing brighter when she returns from it having successfully completed it.
It’s all overwhelming, and in the nicest, wrongest way possible.
“Honestly, Winters, seeing such a shift does rattle a person. Especially when I haven’t seen you out of a soldier’s uniform for years now.“ He comments, his eyes traveling up and down her body on their own accord, despite his best attempts at keeping his gaze on her face.
She laughs, “Can’t really go to training in a dress and high heels, you know. If I had more opportunities, the dresses in my closet wouldn’t be covered in spiderwebs.“
“Duly noted.“ He smirks, offering the young lady his hand as he leads her down the stairs, “I could help you out with that.“
She frowns, pausing mid-step, “Oh no, no, no no. If what you have in mind is a bunch of charity events, you better get that thought out of your head. A bunch of rich assholes drinking champagne, really not my scene.”
Chris chuckles offering her his arm as they walk out the front door to where he parked his car upon arriving at the Winters home, running into Ethan, Mia and their five year old daughter, about to head out for the night. He won’t complain about the lecturing he received, he deserved it after all. It’s a miracle the two even agreed to let Gwen accompany him, not that they could stop her either way seeing as how she’s an adult woman who’s more than capable of making her own decisions.
“No, no, I know you hate those events. I do too.“ He says, oddly timidly as the two get seated in the car. “I was thinking more along the lines of...“ He contemplates how to say it without making the rest of this night awkward, or mess things up with Gwen in any way. She means a lot to him and he’d hate to lose her over his complicated feelings he wishes he could control. “Dinner under candlelight, maybe?“
He’s as stiff as a boulder, tense and expecting something, anything. Literally anything, even outright rejection would be better than silence. Regardless of her answer, he’s gonna regret this move later when Ethan hears about it and goes to kick his ass.
Out of the corner of his eye, he catches the slight shake of her head, a blush evidently appearing on her cheeks, visible even in the dim light in the car. A small smile graces he features as her hand travels to his which is nervously resting on the gear shift. “Sure, I’d like that.” She says, her smile growing wider.
There’s that same twinkle - the sparkle in the eyes of a soldier willing to fight for the greater good, putting everyone above herself. And, on his hierarchy, she’s number one.
“I’m glad.“
Chris Redfield has regretted many things in his life and will probably regret even more in the future. However, he was a fool to think he’d regret this decision - one look at Gwen’s eyes and all regret was erased. All ass-kicking he might receive for it seems more than worth it, looking at it from the perspective of this very moment.
Then again, Captain Chris Redfield has never been a stranger to a little ass-kicking.
Thank you so much, Anon for this super fun challenge! I hope to receive more three words to turn into fics cause I really enjoyed this experience 🥰
