His only reprieve from that pain had been Will, who joked him through it. Who took the blame for some of the mischief that Merlin's magic caused. Will never treated him differently. He never lied to Merlin. Will had died for his sake. If Merlin didn't have a friend like Will, who risked a lot and risked it often for him, then Merlin would never have made it to Camelot.
Morgana never had that. He could have been that, but he was afraid. He was a coward, Merlin knew as much. Will wouldn't have poisoned his friend. He would have found another way. But Merlin didn't. He betrayed Morgana. She had put her entire life in his hand and he crushed it.
It's not everyday where you can read a mergana fic that remembers Will.

This takes place in the early 1900
“I thought you were dead,” he murmured, his voice a fragile thread woven through the centuries. For two thousand years, they had not crossed paths, and yet, the first words to escape his lips were as sharp as the sword that had once pierced her.
His rudeness was understandable, she mused. After all, he had thrust that very sword through her midsection during their last encounter. Morgana stepped closer, her gaze unyielding.
Was he ashamed of his failure to end her life, or merely unsettled by her unexpected presence?
His eyes avoided hers, but she persisted.
“How is it possible?” he finally whispered.
Ignoring the bouquet of flowers she had brought—flowers he hadn’t even acknowledged—Morgana considered throwing them at his face. With just one eye, he wouldn’t dodge them easily.
She retrieved a nearby chair, her tone dripping with wry amusement. “Honestly, Merlin,” she said, “for someone once revered by druids, your naivety remains astonishing.” She waved the flowers before practically tossing them at his lap. “A token for you.”
He used to give her flowers. She was merely returning the favour.
There were other favours she would love to return as well but those needed to wait.
His confusion was almost endearing. “I don’t understand,” he confessed, voice lowered. “I killed…you.”
She corrected him gently. “Stabbed. Fatally. But stabbed.” Her near-death experience had been more complex than mere mortality.
His gaze met hers at last. “I watched you die.”
Suppressing her cheerfulness, Morgana revealed her secret. “Almost die,” she clarified. “Dark magic has its perks—it anchors the soul even in death. And having a dragon on your side helps.” She leaned in, her smile sharp. “My dragon succeeded where yours faltered.”
“Aithusa? What did she do?”
She nodded, her eyes holding ancient secrets. “She led me to Avalon,” Morgana replied. “Healed my wounds—at a cost, of course, but one I willingly paid.”
His curiosity stirred. Here she was standing before him, veiled in mystery.
With a graceful adjustment of her dress, Morgana rose. “Visiting hours are nearly over,” she announced. “I must leave.”
His objection died on his lips. “Tomorrow,” she promised, her gaze unwavering. “Perhaps we can mend that eye of yours.”

Breakdown:
Cannon Era- Takes place during the show's original era with established plot lines from the show
Cannon Era AU- An alternate Universe where things are drastically different (i.e., Merlin is royal, magic is legal, and so on and so forth)
Modern No Magic- Our favorite characters grew up in the modern world!
Modern With Magic- Our favorite characters grew up in the modern world but the world has magic!
Post Cannon (Cannon Era)- Takes place post Diamond of the Day but never strays beyond the medieval setting
Post Cannon (Modern)- takes place post Diamond of the Day with our favorite character or characters in the modern setting.
Plot Matters More than Setting- You'll read a story if the plot (or summary) is good, so the setting doesn't matter

Harry and Hermione are twins and they're Merlin and Morgana's kids, but they only find out in their 13th birthday, when they recieve a Gringotts letter explaining that there's an urgent matter and they should go to the bank to sort it out.
They have a portkey in the letter to go straight up to a goblin's office, so when they activate it they're surprised to see each other there but they don't think much of it.
Until they make a sort of blood test? Honestly, they don't know how it's called in the wixen world...But they make this test and they're furious with the results, 'cause 1) they have a fucking lot of blocks, potions, glamours and spells in them; 2) their whole life was a lie, since their parents are not their parents, they were stolen as babies if the goblins are to be believed; 3) They're twins and it was hidden from them! and 4) Dumbledore did all of this to them.
Hermione screams that she wants Dumbledore's head in a fucking diamond plate and that she wants his head with an apple in the mouth just like a pig. Harry just calmly reminds her that this can't happen yet, that they should talk to their biological parents first and plot against Dumbledore in a way that he would never see it coming and he would see death as a gift 'cause they would absolutely ruin the old fucker.
So they ask the goblins to set up a meeting with their biological parents and once the tearful reunion is sorted out, they start plotting.
Once Harry and Hermione are back in Hogwarts they keep on the facade of being the perfect Gryffindors and 2/3 of the Golden Trio and the Dumbledore lovers that they were. But secretly they came back knowing more spells than Dumbledore himself, knowing how to use a sword perfectly and muggle martial arts, knowing how to protect their minds perfectly in a way that it just seems like they don't know how to do that and knowing how to read someone's mind without the person noticing. They start sneaking to the Chamber of Secrets to plot without being seen or heard, they usually do it at night, when Ron is sleeping so they won't have to make up excuses.
Draco notices that there's something off about Potter and Granger this year, like how they would glare at Dumbledore as if wishing he would just drop dead when no one can see that they're doing it and how they'll just whisper to each other while Weasley is distracted eating and how apparently Potter is following Granger to the library without any complaints and also how Potter decided to take runes and arithmancy and Care of Magical Creatures as electives instead of just Divination and COMC...But there's also the fact that both Potter and Granger won't react anymore when Draco teases them, they just shake their heads at him with a complacent smile and once Potter even tried to pet Draco's hair, like what the fuck Potter? Honestly, Draco is pretty sure that Potter and Granger somehow went insane during the summer and now Weasley is the only sane member of the Golden Trio.
Harry and Hermione honestly don't have time for Malfoy's childish teasing and bullying, so they just ignore it and Harry just wants to say "That's cute, but we don't have time for childish things like that, we have bigger things to worry about" and once he tried to pet Malfoy's hair to try to say that, but by the look Malfoy and Hermione gave him, that wasn't his best idea, after that Hermione was just like "Harry, please, don't do that again, Malfoy isn't a cat, so don't try to pet him again." and Harry just shrugged.
One day Draco is passing through some empty/abandoned classrooms when he hears voices, familiar voices. Potter and Granger. He doesn't want them to notice he's there, but he wants to listen their conversation, since it can explain why they're acting so weird. Draco decides that figuring out what's happening is more important than Potter and Granger eventually finding him eavesdropping. He's surprised that 2/3 of the Golden Trio are actually planning on taking Dumbledore down.
Harry and Hermione are discussing their plans in some empty/abandoned classroom 'cause someone is using Myrtle's bathroom, so they can't go to the Chamber and they're with the Marauders map opened, so that's okay. They can see that Malfoy is coming in their direction but they just shrug and Harry say "It's not like he's gonna run and tell Dumbledore what we're planning, so just let him listen. That's gonna make him stop trying to follow us around...I hope." Hermione nods and they just keep talking about their plans, but they're careful to not mention the bigger secret knowing that Malfoy is eavesdropping. They're just throwing some ideas around and then Malfoy barges in saying "I want to help."
Draco keeps eavesdropping until Potter and Granger just start throwing ideas around, and he knows it would make his father proud if he helped with taking Dumbledore down and honestly, Draco agrees that the old goat needs to go, so without thinking too much about it, he just barges into the room Potter and Granger are saying "I want to help." Potter and Granger just look at him for a minute and then Potter turns to Granger saying "What do you think, 'Mione? It would be great having a third person working from inside with us..." and Granger considers it for a second then replies to Potter with "Yeah, I think it could work...I'm gonna let our...Partners from outside know that now we have an extra hand while you fill Malfoy in with everything he needs to know about the plan." and Potter nods and lets Granger go with "Don't use Hedwig, she's way too recognizable and it would be suspicious. Don't use Wendy either, she's just as recognizable as Hedwig. Use a school owl...Or just sneak to Hogsmeade to send the message from there." and Draco is confused on who's Wendy, as far as he knows, Granger has a cat and not an owl and Potter is not gonna elaborate on that for what it seems.
Harry kinda liked confusing Malfoy when he told Hermione to not use Wendy, her new owl that they bought 'cause Hedwig was kinda momming that owl and they decided she was staying with Hermione instead of Harry 'cause Harry barely send any letters anyways, so what use he would have for yet another owl? But even if Harry was enjoying it, he decided it was better to start filling Malfoy in.
Draco was enjoying helping Potter and Granger more than he expected he would, to be honest. But the unsettling thing is that he kinda developed a crush on Potter and he doesn't know what to do with it. Of course, that's when Potter and Granger decided to shock Draco to his death by saying that they consider him a friend and because of that, now they trust him with their biggest secret, that no one, besides all the people involved in the secret and the goblins, knows. Draco faints for at least a minute when the secret is revealed.
Harry and Hermione after a while of Malfoy helping them, started seeing him as a friend, or well Hermione did and Harry kinda developed a crush, and decided it's time to reveal that they're actually twins and their parents are Merlin and Morgana, that are actually alive by the way. They didn't really see it coming that Draco would faint, for Avalon's sake!

every time i watch s2 ep3 i can't help thinking how much would have been different if merlin had just ignored the dragon and told morgana about his magic. i genuinely think s3-5 would have gone so much differently, and for the better for all the characters.
but this is my rewrite of that ep with the magic reveal!!

~I'M NOT READY TO LOSE YOU~Mergana~Canon divergence~Drabble~
Morgana fell to the ground, struck by his strongest spell, her black hair on the grass, on so innocent white flowers.
Where did he get such power from?
Soft footsteps were approaching her.
This time it was really over. She is completely unarmed and defenseless before someone who once was her lover, her enemy.
“Merlin..." she said in a barely audible voice, looking at his hand raised above her.
The hand was shaking.
"What are you waiting for?" wincing from the pain, she whispered; her power was exhausted, dried up, the pain weighed on everything, "You persecuted me, chased me, cursed my name, poisoned me... So, kill."
Now Merlin felt like in that time when he handed Morgana the deadly poison. The pain of harming the loved one he has not weakened at all over the years–he only managed to drown it out with fear. Now there was a chance to finish everything, as then and for ever.
But no, he couldn't. Hadn't it been a mistake back then? And if he let her go now, it would also be a mistake. There is no way out–in any case, there is only one destiny, one doom.
Morgana closed her eyes, obviously preparing to cast into darkness.
Merlin raised his hand higher again, the last spell in the Old Tongue was already sounding in his head.
Morgana or Arthur?
And Merlin made his choice, knowing that he would regret it and almost not hoping that it would change anything.
But love suffers long. Love is kind. Love makes you betray.
"I'm not ready to lose you...Not yet."
He lowered his hand, took a silver flask from his inside pocket, and sat down on the grass next to Morgana. Life was slowly leaving her; both her darkness and her light were fading away.
Merlin would have fading out with her–there would have been no purport anymore.
With a careful, gentle movement, he lifted her head and put it on his lap, and then brought the flask to her lips.
"Drink this. Please."
"Again?" she almost grinned, her eyelashes fluttered and she looked up at him. Her green eyes merged with the forest dusk around.
This guilt will never be redeemed.
"This is water from Avalon. It heals everything." Merlin explained in a even voice.
Now she has absolutely nothing to lose if she entrusts her destiny to him.
The chilly, sweet water that smells of winter cleansed her from the inside; bringing with it rest, relief, peace; giving her all this unconditionally.
Merlin stroked her tangled hair and then wiped a thin trickle of the holy water from her cheek, watching Morgana come to life.
He was saving this water for Arthur, for the most extreme case.
A peaceful sigh escaped her lips and she almost smiled at Merlin, almost looking like before.
"I don't understand you, Merlin," she said. The healing dream that promised to restore her power was already there, with a merciful hand covering her eyes that had been looking so greedily and fiercely into the world before.
Merlin let her lie down comfortably on the grasses and flowers and lay down next to her, meeting his gaze with the gray sky above.
He's so tired. Years of fight and losses–and he was back where he started from.
"Sleep, Morgana. The Water still needs time to take effect," he said and took her hand; feeling that she stroked his fingers with her thumb.

Sir Agravaine found Morgana sitting under a tree, her head resting thoughtfully on her knees. Alone. She looked healthy, but stared in the void as if she was somewhere else.
Agravaine heaved a sigh of relief and hurried to her.
"My lady!" He called her, "Are you fell well?"
"Quite," she stood up, brushing the leaves off her dress, "Thank you for coming."
"What happened? How did you escape?"
Morgana didn't answer. Walking up to his horse, she sat on it and looked down at him.
"Come on, Agravaine. We need to keep looking for Emrys."

by "slow burn" you mean one where there’s a lot of pining, fighting and not really getting together that quick right? There are a lot of complete MerGana fics!!!! You just gotta start at the oldest (especially in ffnet) and give the fics a chance.
I'm actually still at circa 2012 in ffnet and im reading thru a lot and seriously a lot of gorgeous long fics. The normal lengthed fics are so cool and good too and i often take a while to recover and open a new fic.
tbf "you can't fight fate" is ridiculously long and big so we gotta lower that as the standard but okay i will try

Bound By Fate by Araminia16 - 54 chapters explicit. MerGana deal with Morgana's actions in the prequel to this. Slowburn in the way that they are still toxic and heavily attracted to each other. Secrets are revealed, Morgana and Merlin both deal with each other's righteous fury. and the future is rewritten
No Other Way by MonJoh - 12 chapters. Morgana and Morgause figure out that the key to Camelot is Merlin. Personally this is one of my favorite Magic Reveals.
Destiny's Path by MonJoh 11 chapters. Merlin accidental magic reveal that causes him to get banished. He ends up following aithusa's trail and rescuing Morgana.
The Witch, the Warlock, and the King by AngryPurpleFire 10 chapters. Merlin in the Dark Tower. Comes to an understanding with Morgana. This one is an honest exposition of Camelot dynamics.
The Tricoloured Dragon (Y Ddraig Dri Lliw) by jaqtkd 2 chapters but around 49500 words. The English King Uther is determined to bring Pagan Wales under his control and offers an alliance to the most reasonable of their princes. Balinor accepts his offer instantly and even offers a son and a ward to the king as security. It all seems far too good to be true. - not a slowburn per se.. but it's still long.
LIFE IN MOMENTS SERIES (FFNET) - a cool and very compelling series tbh.
A Lion and a Unicorn by Mnemosyne77 30 chapters and first part of a series. This one is truly a slow burn. Morgana has a nightmare where Merlin is dying. You should check this out.

Throw Out the Script by Eidolon02 37 chapters. I remember this being really cool too. Merlin reveals his magic to Morgana in s2. He teaches her and they become close (and pine a lot for each other). Even on this fic they keep clashing in their ideals and struggle to keep the balance. Please check it out!
A Witch's Hormones by Angela-Bennet 30 chapters. both merlin and morgana and the rest of camelot is sexually frustrated coz of some supernatural annual fertility event.
Resistance is Futile by Duchess Emma 16 chapters It's March 18 and our young lovers must resist the magical pull of fertility for three days or else their magic will be revealed. Yes, it is quite salacious. Now COMPLETE - this is kind of like "A Witch's Hormones" but a different kind of take. It's pretty cool
A Thin Line by Duchess Emma 31 chapters - Merlin and Morgana wake up handcuffed together in Cenred's dungeon. They have to put their hatred aside and work together to get out of this predicament. Will Merlin finally admit his magic? It's a thin line between love and hate. Very thin. - this one also explores their dynamics and what they can do when pushed into a desperate situation where they have to work together. also a pretty sexy fic as they try to fight the attraction they have with each other. merlin is frustrating as usual.
Semper by WingedWolf121 5 chapters. you are the Princess of Cornwall, who holds magic that in Camelot would get you killed. You will learn the art from the most powerful of teachers, Nimueh. If only this serving boy with the vivid blue eyes did not distract you so. Merlin/Morgana - I remember this was quite a slowburn. I dont remember much details but i thought this was cool too. I've seen this one getting recced by others

This is all I got for now. Like I said before. I'm still slowly, very slowly getting thru MerGana fics. I think I missed one complete Modern AU in this list but I honestly cannot remember anymore. The longfics, drabbles and normal sized fics keep meshing in my brain. I hope I can do a 2nd sweep of both fanfiction sites someday but. ah. I doubt I'll even finish within the year. I'm still overwhelmed by the magnitude, the diversity the richness of it all.

@fandomtrumpshate is a fan event that kicked off in the year 2016 to raise money for charities working to combat the harm caused by Trump’s election, but it’s continued it’s good work and is continuing to raise money for charities such as Life After Hate, Razom, and The Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund.

To sum it up, fan creators offer thank you gifts at the auction. Bidders place bids on that creator’s offering, and if they make the highest bid they donate that money directly to one of the supported charities. Once proof of donation has been submitted to the mods of FTH, the creator makes the bidder a custom thank you gift. Money never touches the hands of the mods or creators.
Sign ups are now open! You can offer fanfic, fanart, gifsets, podficcing, AMVs, beta-reading, brit-picking, and more. Basically, if you have a fannish skill, you can offer it up. Part of the sign up process is filling out subjects you’re interested in and subjects you won’t work with.
Is merthur your OTP, but Mergana is your NOTP? Or vice versa? You can put that on the form! Love vampire AUs, but hate modern AUs? You can put that on the form too! Love writing Arthur survives Camlann fix it fics? List that! The point is to give bidders an idea of what you are excited about working on so they know whether they’d be a good match for you.
I’ve participated the last 5 years, and it’s a great way to raise money for charity if you don’t have the money to donate yourself. It’s also a great way to motivate you to get that WIP finished.

hello! i've been looking for recommendations but they are kind of specific. i use mostly ao3 but open to using other places like fanfiction.net.
any recommendations with good morgana in which she and merlin work together for arthur and eventually all three work together. preferably no mergana.
any recommendations where it's just knight tomfoolery, canon era or modern, i'm not picky lol
any recommendations where OLD EMRYS happens. just any funny interaction with him? i craveee. those scenes in the show were always so fun.
