this is all just my personal view ofc, and i have been known to be wrong about things but, looking for a merwaincelot fic that gets their dynamic right is like searching for a needle in a haystack 😭😭😭 why does no one get them like i do?? being so incredibly intelligent is lonely fr :/ gwaine and lance trying to seduce merlin to join their relationship or have a threesome with them is incorrect. i am deeply sorry. the positions are the wrong way around. gwaine and merlin are far more likely to be fwb or dating (in a way that involves sex) than gwaine and lance 😶 merlin is not a shy, oblivious little bby - he's an unhinged feral wilddeoren (rat) boy - but you know who is??? lance! they try their hardest to seduce him and he either doesn't notice or thinks there's no way they'd flirt with him and he must be mistaken so he ignores it. merlin and gwaine are dropping terribly unsubtle hints that they both like him romantically left and right, but the man manages to misread them somehow. lance is repressed and shy and has cripplingly low self-esteem and merlin and gwaine would eat him alive, sorry :/ he would be the shy one being backed into a corner unexpectedly by two men with nefarious motives, not merlin! he is utterly unaware of how attractive he is bc he hates himself. to be fair, merlin kinda hates himself too, as does gwaine, but not in the same way. they're a sad trio okay but lance is pathetic and a subby little bitch and would never initiate i don't make the rules

Uh so something happened

Like yadda yadda modern interpretations and stuff but like, the quote is

“I wish I were a fair maiden, then I would woo him [Lancelot]”

There is some context to this, and based on the context it can be debated whether or not Gawain was trans, but still. Oh but on that note.

Gawain is absolutely bisexual. Regardless of the context, if you’re a man and unironically express a desire to sleep with what is clearly a man, then you are some flavour of gay. And Gawain, the ladies man of Arthurian myth, expressed a desire to sleep with the handsome knight. He is at the very least bisexual, probably poly or pan given how he’s slept with magical creatures and loved a wide range of women.

Breakdown:

Cannon Era- Takes place during the show's original era with established plot lines from the show

Cannon Era AU- An alternate Universe where things are drastically different (i.e., Merlin is royal, magic is legal, and so on and so forth)

Modern No Magic- Our favorite characters grew up in the modern world!

Modern With Magic- Our favorite characters grew up in the modern world but the world has magic!

Post Cannon (Cannon Era)- Takes place post Diamond of the Day but never strays beyond the medieval setting

Post Cannon (Modern)- takes place post Diamond of the Day with our favorite character or characters in the modern setting.

Plot Matters More than Setting- You'll read a story if the plot (or summary) is good, so the setting doesn't matter

Gwaine and Lancelot on a date that does not go well. First, Gwaine not only almost set his kitchen on fire while cooking, but the tomato sauce explodes all over the place, forcing them to go out to have dinner. When they come back, the electricity is gone and they have to rely on candles for light.

I spent so much time on the background, so here are some details:

The bookshelf in the background, containing mostly travel related books as well as a mostly dead plant. The “Perilous Quests” book is a hiking trails/geocaching tour guide and was a birthday gift from Leon. So far, they have completed seven of them mostly uninjured (except when Gwaine got stung by bees).

The candles were partially stolen from restaurants, taken from family celebrations, and a lot of them were gifts from Gwaine’s sister. She gives him candles whenever she needs to gift him something. Most of them smell really strongly, which is why they are stored in a box labeled “Don’t open”. For this emergency, they have chosen the least intense candles.

One of the candles is the Yankee Candle Mountain Lodge candle. You know, the one that allegedly smells like Chris Evans. (Yes, I will reference my other fandoms when I’ve got the chance. On that note, you will a reference to Die drei ??? in the book title “Rocky Beach Tours” and also “Persuasion” by Jane Austen, which is one of my favourite books despite me apparently being unable to spell it correctly, as I just realised.)

On the fridge are magnets in the shape of apples, a piece of cake, a Pendragon dragon, a ghost, and a knight. They hold up two flyers from Gwaine’s favourites, one is called “Pizza & More”, and a picture of Merlin having fallen asleep over a book.

one of my favorite dynamics is gwaine hating lancelot’s guts because he’s mr perfect he’s a great knight he’s kind to a fault he’s a genuinely honorable person and he’s effortlessly charismatic (which is not fucking fair because charm is the only thing gwaine actually has going for him and even he has to work for it) even if he can’t really hate him because lancelot really is just well-meaning and damnably earnest but there’s something petty and bitter (and not fucking jealous, dammit) in him that feels spurned

meanwhile lancelot has the fattest fucking crush on gwaine and will not tell him because he thinks he’s uninterested
