old man yells at cloud but i do actually hate texting as a means of connecting to people because it’s not good for long involved conversations; the whole setup is just for bytes of information you’re both just half paying attention to

i know liking steven universe is cringe and shit, but all i do is post cringe so i dont really care. that being said, i've been seeing a weird upkick in anti steven universe takes on twitter lately, and I've hated all of them. Yeah Yeah, I know the show is flawed but it comes off as very weird for people to talk about how terrible the show is for letting the diamonds off the hook, then turn around and praise ATLA. Hell, in one bizarre instance, say that Steven Universe talking about PTSD and trauma is not that unique because an adult Cartoon show did the same thing 10 years before and also anime did that constantly. (let's ignore the factors that make SU and those shows completely different, starting with demographics)
there was even this weird ass pissing contest started by 40k fans on reddit which. Okay, it's a fandom filled to the brim with people who justify a fascist, xenophobic, imperialist, colonialist, expansionist empire on it's mild days, so seeing people say "It's pretty gay of Steven not to kill dictators" is pretty strange! I guess because being xenophobic fascists is okay as long as you're human.
and really, i gotta wonder. What the fuck happened? Fandom? I was there when the fandom was pretty trash, but what made SU so uniquely bad that people refuse to look past the fandom and bash SU itself? Was it overhyping? is it latent homophobia? Do people have such a low view of children's media that they think it cannot bring anything of value unless its explicitly mature and edgy and cynical?

#videos#fave#so like.#my theory is that they went from australia to antarctica to south america#bc if u look at the earth from that angle i mean.... stuff wasnt *too* far apart back then#and im p sure they coulda made boats if they needed to#idk. but im sure its like. hard to find fossils in antarctica tho#or ig they coulda made 'rafts' but i remain unconvinced that humans didnt have the capacity to make boat like things sooner#i mean hey. a particularly calm weather season. a sufficient way across the ocean. whos to say it simpossible?#temporary land bridges made of ice.......... yakno#im definitely not an archeologist but yeah idk i just think it coulda happened :0#so its easier for me to speculate since im not but like idk. i think ppl under estimate the intelligence of ancient humans#i mean fuck ppl are always assuming that birds n monkeys n shit got to certain islands by 'natural rafts'. if a human can make a spear im p#sure a raft isnt that fuckin hard#and upon looking it up looks like humans could build rafts like 800000 years ago#idk maybe the reason we cant find these ancient humans is bc antarctica is like a death zone that maybe only a few humans made it across#modern humans are so up our own asses about our technology that we think its just aGAHTTA be impossible for ancient humans to have done#anything meanginful until they became what we understand as 'humans'.#im in the boat (no pun intended) of hominids are smarter than we think#also animals are smarter than we think in general. we modern humans just suck our own dicks too much to notice

scott and lydia's friendship is actually everything to me. like grandpa argent threated lydia along with scotts mom and stiles' dad to get in scott's head. aiden flirts with lydia and that's the thing that gets to scott. when stiles isnt around in season 6 they have each other. and i didnt watch the movie but the gifsets of them reuniting are literally so important to me. they went from "the popular girl my best friend has a crush on" and "that guy who has a crush on me's dorky best friend" to lifelong ride or dies

i've said the anecdote "FDR was the most left America ever got, and since then it's drifted right" a few times in conversation, but I don't actually have a source for that -- I think maybe I heard it once in a history class and then just accepted it as fact?
Anyway, can you confirm or deny this? Or is that line too sweeping and broad to really be correct or incorrect in a meanginful way?
I don't think that quote is particularly accurate, because it really depends what specific areas of public policy you're talking about: economic policy or social policy? Civil rights? Women's rights? LGBT+ rights? Criminal justice reform? In some of these areas FDR was the left-most president, in others he was much more to the center or right.

This is why, as much as I respect Jefferson Cowie tremendously as a historian in general, I think his thesis in The Great Exception is just wrong.

honestly the problem with "it gets better" as a movement is that as someone who was feeling really shitty in high school and even early 20s being told "if you dont kill yourself now it will eventually get better" was not very persuasive because i play fire emblem and i know long-term investment in something doesn't always mean you're getting the right bang for your buck. i think it would probably be better and more meanginful to say "you will not always feel the way that you do now" or something to that effect. i know it gets better feels like a snappier version of it but it is not. maybe something like "nothing is forever, not even misery". but again, not snappy.

Below the cut!
Because Barnum & Bailey travels internationally, Barney’s parents sent him to live with his aunt in NY at the age of 10 in hopes of giving him a more stable homelife. Barney misses the circus dearly and dreams of seeing them again but only shares how much he misses his parents with Tommy.
Tommy is quiet and reserved while Barney is clownlike and excitable. They both find the other’s qualities very charming. When Tommy joined the lodging house Barney was the first to befriend him.
Barney knows a lot of tricks like plate spinning, juggling, balancing, and some slight of hand. He uses these skills to entertain the other newsies/cheer them up. Tommy is amazed every time and thinks Barney is the coolest person he’s ever met.
Tommy doesn’t say much, but when he does, it’s usually something important and meanginful, which Barney really appreciates. Like, “No one can smile all the time,” when Barney tries to laugh off that he’s fine when a new tent comes to town, but it’s not B&B.
Tommy is also a very good listener, which makes Barney feel at ease and allows him to open up to him more: “And that’s how basically how you train for the trapeze—sorry, I’ve been talking for a while. Am I talking too much?” Tommy, shaking his head ‘no’ (please go on forever).

Yeah I think I’d prefer “hey! this is my story and these people aren’t real so I’m going to write what I want for my plot” rather than this new strand of “it’s feminist actually to write Lily as a horrible person with no character arc so James can run off with a Death Eater”. Ultimately it’s my responsibility to just avoid stories that bug me but I did need to get that off my chest lol
nah that’s totally fair dude!! i’m always up for a good vent, whether on anon or off it dw 💜
and literally same. there’s a reason i don’t like activism in fanfiction and this is it. it ends up reading like lip service rather than anything meanginful and it’s just like ‘why is this even here? it’s not even done properly’ ykno? just accept that sometimes ur fucking around deliberately bc it’s more fun and leave it at that. literally no reason to turn it into a moral crusade.

So happy to be sharing my Lindsey Stirling inspired necklace with a fellow Stirlingite, inspired by one of Lindsey's original songs about finding your voice to sing even when you feel trapped (Stirlingites know the one!). I love the elegance and simplicity of this piece. The pearls and crystals are genuine Swarovski elements and the cage charm even has a bird inside that jingles delicately when you wear it.  For fellow lovers of inspiration songs and awesome violin dubstep blends, this necklace is available at my Etsy shop, and use the coupon KSLL10 for 10% off at checkout if you want to make this yours. =) <3 https://www.etsy.com/listing/900113244/lindsey-stirling-inspired-caged-birds?ref=shop_home_active_1 #KSLL #lindseystirling #stirlingite #violin #songofthecagedbird #originalsong #inspiredjewelry #handcraftedjewelry #handmadejewelry #sentimental #meanginful #meanginfuljewelry #jewelrywithameaning #Swarovskijewelry #nature #branchjewelry #naturejewelry #findyourvoice #lightindarkness #bethelightindarkness #swarovskicrystals #swarovskipearls #chainjewelry #messageofhope (at Ithaca, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKU_T-hlaxZ/?igshid=5qdb9ipvjsfy

i think my professional practice class might truly break me. it’s not like completely horrible by any means. but we are supposed to be learning about the ethics and legality of it all (the teaching profession). which like cool, okay, that’s useful. i would like to have that information. except my first assignment was: write a 5 page in depth paper about your origins/culture. and i’m about to start the second assignment which is: pick a living thing to become and write a 7 page paper on how this living thing is a metaphor for your teaching

That Western Au blurb?😭 Sonny Darlin. Stop it. Ooh and imagine the rides down and Western! Steve grabs you by the waist and brings you down, sling your body against his. And acts like he did nothin and you’re like 😳. All the horse/horse riding references. Rolling in haystacks. Dancing by the fire in a town fair thingy. “Bobbin for apples” also innocent meanginful moments in the pews in the early morning light shining though stained glass and Steve’s like “I’m keepin you darlin”
I can’t stop with cowboy!steve on my mind😵‍💫
ROLLING IN HAYSTACKS !! TOWN FAIR DATES !! if its soft!dark, everyone is just watching you fall deeper and deeper for him—all while they know what kind of man he really is, they’re too scared to say anything (except maybe one person, who gets so on Steve’s nerve that he has to do something about it👁👁)

your metas made me realise how /well/ sw portrayed how families and relationships work. There are so many aspects of my live's relationships with families, friends, ext that resonate very well with those shown. The long woven effects of choices, big or small, moulding these characters into who they are and how they interact with others makes it feel so familiar and real. yknow what i mean? the perfectionism in the fandom is so strange to me. they almost seem to favour one dimensional characters.
Yep, flawed people build flawed relationship. No relationship is ever ‘perfect’ because no one is perfect. Considering how obvious that truth is, I’m constantly amazed by how many people fail to realize that. I just hope from the bottom of my heart that someday people will realize that well-written fictional characters = flawed fictional characters. Anakin’s relationship with Obi-wan, Padmé or even Shmi didn’t have to perfect to be loving and meanginful. You can love someone and still hurt or be hurt by them. Relationship doesn’t have to be happy *all the time* to be considered happy relationships. People fight or disagree sometimes, it’s part of being together.
People often talk about Anakin and Obi-wan or Anakin and Padmé when discussing familial relationships in Star wars, but when I think of how well written these types of relationships were written in the Prequel I always think of the Naberries.
On paper they had everything – money, love, trust, happiness, etc – so it could’ve been so easy to turn them into unrealistically movie-perfect family. And yet, they aren’t. They don’t present the kind of conflicted relationship we see for most of the franchise – Qui-Gon & Obi-wan, Anakin & Obi-wan, Anakin & Leia – but they still feel real. And it takes good writing for that to happen. IMO, they feel real because they feel relatable even when they are being good: Padmé’s mom is the kind of mom who overfeeds everyone. Padmé’s sister is a little too invested in her love life and her wish to procreate, her gradma’s grief after Padmé’s death is as heartbreaking as it’s real. Those behaviors is what makes them real because they are recognizable ones: we all know what’s like to be asked if we are in a relationship or if we want kids, we’ve experienced grief or overbearing relatives, etc.
The jedi don’t have that kind of familial relationships, they are not allowed to so their relationships must take a different shape. You can’t have obi-wan play the role of the overbearing mother because mothers aren’t allowed. That’s why their conflict must take a different shape.
