They only fetishize queer people. Especially our pain. We are not real, entire human beings to them. The celebrate the straight couples - their relationship, intimacy n all; fetishize the bodies of queer men; n fetishize the idea of queer women.
The extent to which they tolerate our sexuality is the short snippets in promo clips. They only want to exploit our online engagement. Ironically our viewership might be bringing in the ad buyers who r trying to erase us.
They try to erase the specificity of the "queer" part, but only use the pain, the convenient stereotypes, the virtue-signaling part to gain brownie points n for good drama. They joke about cultural appropriation n did exactly that during the pride episode with the straight couple's proposal. Same-sex marriage. What are you talking about? It's about queer hate n straight allyship.
They capitalize on the "women" part, to further fetishize our biology. So if it's 2 women in a relationship - it's double the drama about making babies, bad genes, n jokes about hormones n our body parts. But it's 2 women, how can they possibly manage w/o "big, strong, sensitive", straight men with good genes to contribute n overflowing empathy to deal with them being emotional n hormonal?
It's 5b, it's pride, it's the burning man all over again. First they elevate Jack, now Beckett. Pride was about cheating queer men n high queer woman. An intimate scene of Marina must be minimized n hidden among the others' or edited to death in a montage. It's as scary as a man burning to death.
The fact that they haven't even shared a proper kiss this season through any joyful or emotional moment... They just come up with more ways to obscure the kiss, if any. Bad lighting, bad angles n bad editing are prerequisites. They r also written into the script.
Of course they make an important life decision in the NICU, n it's completely inappropriate for a married w|w to share a quick kiss - which we saw via the back of their heads. Unlike a gay man having sex with an ex at the funeral of the ex's dad - while cheating on his partner - twice. Perfectly lit with no obstructions of course.
Even in their ugly kitchen they're assigned, with a perfectly good scene setup, nope. Too brightly lit for queer woman - save it for a long morning kiss b/w gay men in their nice kitchen.
Emotional scene about Carina's fertility issues and reciprocal IVF - okay a kiss allowed grudgingly - but just 0.5 sec. Their lips touched. You get the idea. Why are you fans so demanding? Time is reserved for the 101th proposal of the straight couple n their extended kisses. A proper Marina love scene? You perverts. More explicit sex scenes b/w straight couples are needed.
I don't want to rehash about Jack. I've said plenty about Beckett. Just that men's mistakes are dismissed and minimized. It is not enough to show every painful step of Maya apologizing and making amends. Maya and Carina must also be used to make the audience sympathize with Jack and Beckett. It is a deliberate yet thoughtless choice to use Carina's SA trauma to sympathize with Jack. Just as it is to use Maya's family trauma to sympathize with Beckett. Esp the context of the shot. It is esp violating. They might as well just get Jack to show up for this. They never really got it, did they?
However one chooses to justify these choices, it's not only unnec but wrong to include the men. Esp not Beckett - the man who bullied her for months till her breakdown. Even if he never apologized and they insist on using Maya's pain to make him look good in his redemption arc, idc at this point, but this is just not the time.
If it must be a man, get Travis. Make it a conversation b/w queer people, about queer hate, about their families. Travis sympathizing with Maya, about a journey he wouldn't know about. Way better than jokes on hormones with the guys. A cheap way to get a laugh at an arduous process. I thought we left 5b n mocking queer women behind.
It could have been one beautiful scene with Andy and Vic. They haven't had a proper one since s1 & 2. They would have understood about Mason, if not for their long friendship, there's 703. It could have been about the pain women go thru - Andy and Vic about their abortions or Maya about experiencing what Carina underwent... The show really isn't big on female camaraderie.
But it should really be Carina. Among all the scenes of Carina in the station bathroom - which have been a lot - this is probably the most appropriate if they must set it there. Definitely more so that her own insemination, which was ridiculous.
These are moments that they should only share with each other, privately n intimately. These precious moments that are dwindling - few n short to begin with. It's not irl, it's one scene in an ensemble show. They sure could have romanticized this. It doesn't even have to be half as dramatic as a regular scene of their golden couple. D & S will create magic.
Esp in this episode, there's so much to unpack. With everything they've been thru on their own, the ending could have been about them at home, checking in n sharing their day. Talking about the lawsuit, the hate on queers, their brothers, the boundaries they had to set with their families... Doing the trigger shot together - esp after their emotional scene in 705 n to cap off the morning scene. A perfect setup for their emotional n physical intimacy.
But of course it didn't happen. Other important moments in their lives about their new home n new baby were also short parts of wordless montages. They are even less important than scenes of the others having drinks n sex.
Queer women just don't matter.

Calling them bro after you start dating
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Katsuki | Shouto | Izuku | Eijirou
Tags: SFW, but suggestive, Fem!Reader, Crack? Fluff, Comedy, kinda ooc, Characters are all aged up, Deku’s is a lot more suggestive. The tense on this is all over the place, I’ll fix once I have the brain power to do so
Tumblr media
Bakugou Katsuki
Even before you were dating it sort of ticked him off- being called bro by you- so after you start dating, does it drive him MAD!
“Stop that shit.”
You’re too used to his huffy behaviour so you pay it no mind, just rolling your eyes.
“Don’t roll your eyes at me.” He glares, albeit not harshly.
His stare lingers and you find yourself finally caving and asking what’s wrong. “Bro what?”
“That.” He points at you, looking dramatically offended. “Calling me bro? I’m your Boyfriend.”
The realisation that it’s being called ‘bro’ that had Bakugou acting all pouty, has you choking back a laugh.
“Katsuki, bro, is that it?” You sputter through the giggles.
“Oh fuck off [Name].” It isn’t angry sounding and he takes a seat by you, almost cuddling. “What if I started calling you extra, Hah?”
“You used to!” You poke him and he shoots you yet another glare. “‘Fucking extra, go out with me’ if I recall correct.”
Then he’s groaning and turning his head, sporting an evident blush. “I thought we agreed to not talk about that again.”
“What, I said yes didn’t I?” You go to cup his cheeks so he faces you. You then push yourself to his lap, seating yourself comfortably “And here I am, in your arms, 5 years later.” His frown had started to soften, but like the menace you are, you couldn’t help but tease a little more. “Bro.”
This time he rolls his eyes, smitten enough to let you tease. “You’re the fuckin’ worst, ya’ know that?” His words mean nothing with how gentle they leave him.
“I know.” You grin, pecking him on the lips. “But you love me anyways.”
He returns your kisses almost instinctively, then sighs out a soft. “Yeah… I do.”
“But actually stop calling me bro, next time I’ll kick your ass.”
“Kats’!! You’re so mean!!”
Todoroki Shouto
Thinks he’s in the bro zone.
Although he’s not unaware of the feelings of those around him by any means, he can be a little ignorant to nuances of speech, taking things too literally at times. So when you refer to him as bro, oh he assumes the worst.
To be fair it isn’t just on him, you’re just as bad calling your crush bro. What did you expect.
It takes multiple hurdles, an abundance of google searches along the lines of “Does my crush like me back?” or “How to tell if a woman is interested you.” Unbelievably useless advice from resident-playboy Denki, and a more than awkward conversation with his father, for Shouto to actually find himself in a relationship with you.
So when you call him bro even after you start dating, oh god is he even more confused.
“[Name], Do you see me as a brother figure?”
The question is out of the blue and you can only stutter out a “What?”
“You keep calling me bro, even ‘broski’ once.” He prompts.
You hadn’t even noticed that, and it’s a little embarrassing to finally realise; you very much have been calling your crush-now-boyfriend ‘bro’ for years.
“Oh god, it’s just habit.” You insist. “I don’t see you as a brother, no.”
He doesn’t respond immediately, seemingly in thought.
When he does reply though, his words are a little stuttered. “You call- Katsuki and Izuku ‘bro’ too…”
You’re not sure why that matters until it clicks, he wants to be called something special.
“Would you like it if I called you something else, how about love? I think pretty suits you too.”
It’s not often you see Shouto flustered- confused maybe- but hardly bordering shy. Instead he’s one to be blunt and direct, sometimes even shameless. But now he sways, warm in the face, nodding his head and whispering out gently. “Yes. I’d like that.”
Midoriya Izuku
It’s not even you that gets to him, it’s Bakugou.
Laughing about “She calls you bro?? You fuckin’ nerd, bro-zoned by your own girl!”
Izuku knows it’s just habit and you see him as your man, more than knows mind you.
But he’s never been immune to Bakugou’s torments so it does keep him on high alert, taking note of the multiple times you call him bro.
When you’re leaving the house, it’s a “See you bro.” When you return, it’s a damn kiss alongside “I’m back bro.” Even when you go to say those three special words, it’s somehow tainted by being followed by “bro.”
Izuku doesn’t get mad often, but it’s really starting to agitate him hearing you call for him so casually.
“Okay, no more.” He one day stands up without any warning. Practically stomps over and tackles you to the ground.
It’s a tumble of laughter but one look at Izuku and you know you’re fucked.
His eyes are dark, his expression stern. It’s a look you hardly see on him, being so doting all the time. But it’s one you certainly don’t mind.
“You’ve gone far enough.” His voice is deep, almost rough, you can feel it on your skin. “I think we should just remind you what I’m really called…”
Kirishima Eijirou
Doesn’t notice the difference. And it’s probably because he calls you bro.
Everyone is a bro to him, all his crushes growing up were bros [and he wonders why none of them worked out] even his own Mother is a bro.
However draws the line during sexy times.
He’s kissing your neck, clearly initiating a little time away from work, while you type away at your desk.
“Ah come on bro, not now.”
He quite animatedly deflates, literally sinking with a frown.
“You ruin my fun.” He speaks, pout on his face.
“Sorry Bro, just a lil’ more paragraphs and I’m all yours.” You turn and give him a quick peck.
“No- It’s not that- you just.” He really is a sweetheart who would never be upset by being turned down. “Stop calling me bro.”
“Oh.” You almost laugh. “But you do it all the time.”
“Not while kissing you!!” Kirishima insists.
“Broooo.” You let out a dramatic sigh, paired with a smirk that Kirishima catches on to. He frowns.
“That’s it. I’m banning the word.” Kirishima stands up, determined. “Neither of us can use it anymore.”
You raise an eyebrow in his direction, amused by his new found commitment. He takes no mind to your lack of belief and remains dead set on his new pledge.
Doesn’t last a day.
Gets a call from Bakugou and picks up with “What’s up bro.”
As if he already expects you to be there laughing at his mistake, he shoots his head round and makes direct eye contact with you.
“Told ya’ you couldn’t do it-” You both stare each other down, silently daring the other to say another word. You take on the dare with a brilliant grin. “Bro!”
Tumblr media
This is a very me thing to call everyone bro/brother or broski… anyways, clearing out my drafts and found this, I don’t particularly like each part but it did make me laugh a lil so hey! Why not post lol.

when i insist on odysseus as a rape victim i'm not trying to absolve him of patriarchy. he is, in many ways, a hero of patriarchy. even if i think some of the people who use him that way rhetorically have probably not read the odyssey, let alone understood its nuances, the cultural world of the poem and the narrative itself are patriarchal, and odysseus is both a product and perpetrator of that. but when i read about calypso forcing odysseus to have sex with her, i will still call it rape, not because i like him as a character, although i do, but because i think to not do so reveals a very troubling attitude toward rape and patriarchy in the ancient context and now.
i've tried and tried but i don't know how to have this conversation with someone who is determined not to accept the premise that, in the text of the odyssey, odysseus has no choice in the matter. if they've read the text, it's right there. from what i can read of the greek, it's there (ἀνάγκη, force, constraint). i've never read a translation where it wasn't there. if they just don't care, that pretty much kills the discussion.* but sometimes they'll try to sidestep it, bringing up that the text implies he slept with calypso willingly at some point, or arguing that she doesn't explicitly compel him on the last night they spend together before he leaves ogygia forever.** to be frank, that's not the point. i'm not trying to absolve him even of the accusation of cheating on penelope. i'm not saying he was faithful to penelope. i'm saying he was still, at the point that we meet him in the odyssey, raped. period. i'm saying that's important in some way. i'm saying that using that word is important.
odysseus has power, as a man in a patriarchal society, but that power is not absolute. power is never absolute. i've heard it suggested that in the ancient context, the rape of odysseus is comic, in the sense of affirming life even in its indignities, and in the sense that humiliation is amusing (i have a lot of disagreements with the article, but it has given me endless food for thought). i'm quoting at length here, but bear with me:
Athena leaves Odysseus lingering on Calypso’s island in what is certainly the most unheroic, most challenging of all the trials that befall him on his return home. The narrator describes Odysseus as desperately wanting to leave Ogygia, crying in homesickness, but having to stay and, more to the point, share Calypso’s bed. I mentioned much earlier that an audience of that period would not expect celibacy from a married male away from home. Yet the situation must produce, it seems to me, quite another reaction in the males in the audience when the narrator emphasizes Odysseus’ profound unhappiness with the arrangements. In a patriarchal society of that time, where marriages were arranged and wedding nights were more likely than not sanctioned rape scenes, households teemed with female slaves, the highways and byways with prostitutes, men were no doubt accustomed from puberty to have their way easily with women, and on their own terms. Nothing in their experience would prepare them for enforced sexual servitude to a woman. [...] With this episode, the narrator has introduced a comic counterpart to the ubiquitous comments on the faithful Penelope’s celibacy, that is, the image of her husband manfully performing his nightly duties in the home of the insatiable Calypso. It is comic, yes, but also every man’s deepest fear.
why is it comic? because it's a reversal of expectation, of roles, of fortune. why is it unexpected? because it exploits the fear that a man could be treated by a woman the way he treats a woman; because a woman becomes monstrous by acting like a man. these are misogynistic ideas and fears, and they sound strikingly modern.
which means that: i understand the impulse to salvage calypso's image. i understand how it could be interesting or productive or empowering maybe, for some women, because homer is so concerned with any fault in penelope's sex life (reinforced by clytemnestra’s, and those of the slave women that odysseus and penelope own) and seemingly not at all with odysseus’. but calypso is arguing for the right of female gods to treat human beings however they want to, not for the rights of human women.
it also means that: the rape of odysseus becomes remarkable, when the rape of countless others is not, because of who he is. it's humiliating for him to be treated like a sex slave because he's a man and a king; other slaves are just slaves. similar logic is found elsewhere in the odyssey (it's humiliating for him to be treated like a beggar, but the other beggar in the house is just a beggar). this is not a text that believes in equal rights of any kind. but i think we have to ask the question, is it not rape because of that? should we not call it rape because he's a man, because he's a man who perpetrates specific evils, because other people have it worse? and why do i keep arguing that his situation is important to remark on?
god. i don't know. sometimes? just because we don't.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i've lost count of posts like this, comments like this, attitudes like this, of how many times i mention the odyssey and immediately hear about calypso, of how at best odysseus weeping on ogygia becomes the butt of the joke. and i'm not sorry that i don't find it more progressive than treating calypso as a shrill misogynistic stereotype. i do not find it interesting or original to take a man who is not in the position of power in a sexual encounter and say that he's being either disingenuous, ungrateful, or mystifying.
when we refuse to name what calypso does to odysseus as rape, absolutely regardless of what we feel for him, just that it happened, that that's what's going on, i think we do something sinister, potentially to real people. especially because this exists in a text where slavery is also often unnamed in translation and discussion, and other forms of rape and captivity and human suffering, and i think we need to name them all, without being afraid that naming one will take away from the others. saying odysseus was raped doesn't mean we excuse the intense misogyny penelope is subjected to, the enslaved lives of melantho and the other hanged women. it all matters. it's all important.
*as does the suggestion that odysseus could be lying and actually had a great time. but odysseus isn't the one telling us what's going down on ogygia; the narrator is. when given the opportunity, odysseus himself says very little, only maintaining that his heart wasn't in it. of course odysseus could be lying. he could always be lying. but calypso is the most relevant counter-perspective we have, and even she doesn't claim that odysseus wants her, just that she thinks he ought to be happy with her. it's to her obvious frustration that he isn't. without another authority in the text, saying "it could be straight lies" is a conversational dead-end.
and if, by the way, there's a lost version of the odyssey in which odysseus was philandering, and the version we have was written to clear him of those charges... it's still the version we have. how we deal with it says something about us.
**if i say "calypso raped odysseus" and a hypothetical person (actually several real people i have encountered) makes this counterargument, that implies that the threat of force is, then, what? not real? if 'at some point' being willing means that the harm of whatever came after that point is negated, it casts him as someone who mopes around out of boredom with an equal partner, when the text seems much clearer on the point that he's in this position against his will than under what circumstances and for how long he might have slept with her willingly. they are clearly not equals by the mere fact that she is a goddess; his mortality is, in calypso's eyes, the barrier between them. rip to everyone who finds the decision to leave ogygia a "surprising choice" but i am never less surprised by odysseus than when he's handling calypso as delicately as possible, in order to leave her as fast as he can.

I know talking about Legend of Korra, especially the romance in LoK, is a mixed bag. But I just had a thought, so I'm going to share it to maximize the suffering it causes.
It's implied Asami and Mako's first meeting is contrived, with the intention of her getting close to a pro-bender with connections. It's been said they were initially thinking of making Asami the equalist spy/villain, but wimped out on a morally grey character (and letting the equalists have a point) when she became more popular, and switched it to her dad being the equalist, and her the unknowing tool to get info. But, either way. She invites him to expensive dinner supposedly to apologize for knocking him over?? And she's pretty, and insistent, and he accepts. And then she talks about sponsoring his pro-bending team.
(So did her dad give her 'dating advice' along the lines of, 'hey that cute pro-bender you like, knock him over, take him to dinner as an apology, then offer his team money'? Because i have. questions.)
It's a kids show (and tackles subject matter with less depth than the original) so I can assume they did not mean to give me these vibes. But Mako isn't on equal terms with Asami. He feeds himself and his younger brother (who he has been solely responsible for, for years) with his wages from the power plant and whatever they win in competition. This means he can't dedicate all of his energy to practicing like wealthy, sponsored teams can; so even if he's got the talent, he doesn't have the time to polish it. And he can't be as effective a pro-bender without more time to practice, but that would mean they don't eat enough to reach that level of competition. And he can't take more hours at the power plant to build up savings without sacrificing pro-bending practice, through which they have a place to stay and train.
By sponsoring his team, Asami becomes Mako's benefactor in a way that allows him financial stability and the certainty that he and his brother will have regular meals, regardless of him exhausting himself at work. (I'm ignoring Korra, because she's not financially dependent on the brothers or pro bending.) So. She's basically his sugar-momma (is that the phrase?). And one of the reasons (aside from the writers having the romantic nuance of smashing dolls together) they don't work out is a lack of communication.
The point I'm getting to here is, did Mako ever truly feel he could say no to Asami?
Did she make it clear that her sponsoring their team wasn't dependent on him going out with her? Like, explicitly clear, early on before the whole group was friends. Does she know what Mako is willing to do to make sure his brother eats regularly? Maybe it was her father's name on the checks, but would he keep sending them if his daughter wasn't enamored with one of the competitors? (yes, but for Evil ReasonsTM, and it'd be hard to explain why. and Mako doesn't know any of that.)
I doubt it ever occurred to Asami, exactly how much power she has over him. She was a rich kid, but she meant well. She probably didn't understand that he was doing mental math at every restaurant, on every date, and adding it up in the same category as the sponsorship money. Adding to a tally he owes someone else.
TLDR: Mako probably considered his relationship with Asami as something along the lines of an incredibly under-negotiated sugarbaby situation, but hey it's better than doing accounting for yakuza. And Asami thought they were dating dating.

how about 7/8 or 15/16 (or if you’re bored ALL OF THOSE! :D) for kara lena? :D
this took me a while because i had much to Ponder.....answers under the cut! snip snip ✂
7. What’s something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
see this is so hard because i am so used to biting and violence that i'm bad at praising fandom......um i like when people redesign kara's supersuit to look way better! i kind of hated both of her normal suits in the show LOL. (i liked her anti-kryptonite suit though, so, um, sorry brainy but maybe lena should design her next suit & you can keep designing for kelly cuz the guardian suit was nice as hell.) but there's lots of cool redesigns floating around the fandom. i also like fics that dive deep into her psychology and confront her flaws (since the show. didn't do that) or, alternatively, fics that explore a different version of her character with different flaws (e.g. anger issues) or a different relationship to krypton, its destruction, and her family.
for lena i think it's cute when people make fic/art where she turns into a little black cat. not sure how this got started/popularized but i like it. :) and similarly to kara i like when fics dig into her psychology and her backstory and explore her pain and anger and flaws in a nuanced way. particularly when said fics acknowledge that her anger at kara for the secret is justified regardless of the morality of any given thing she does about it.
8. What’s something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
ok going to attempt to talk about something i haven't complained about yet for both of them. umm well this is hardly unique to this fandom but i do think it's annoying when people Only interpret them through the lens of supercorp.* like yes, their relationship is an important part of the show and of both of their character arcs (...to the extent that kara has a character arc), but not all of their actions can or should be exclusively read as motivated by the other character or in relation to the other character. (i think people actually do this with lena more often than kara, which is not to say that people don't do this with kara, but with kara i also see people frequently reading her character from the lens of Her World Blew Up™ and not just "she's in love with lena". whereas lena i think quite often gets reduced to "she's in love with kara" even though if anything i think the show constructs her non-kara-related psychology and the way her non-kara-related backstory informs said psychology in a much more coherent way than they do kara's.) and i do ship sc but honestly their relationship becomes less interesting to me if i assume that all of their actions revolve around the other person lol. it actively improves the ship if they exist as independent characters. funny that.
*of course the flip side to this, which is an arguably even worse way to analyze the show, is people who dislike the ship insisting on downplaying the relationship's textual importance. i've seen people who dislike sc as a ship generate incredibly weak and bizarre analysis of both characters and of the show as a whole because they refuse to accept that kara and lena love each other in some way, that the kara/lena friendship is central to both characters' arcs, and, in the show's final two seasons, that their relationship is arguably the core emotional & thematic throughline of the show itself. so i'm certainly not advocating for ignoring or dismissing their relationship when you analyze the characters or show. that is also deeply annoying (perhaps even more annoying, since the people who do it often posture about not caring about shipping and thus being ~unbiased~ and ~objective~, which, lol). just, idk, don't ignore or dismiss other stuff either. Use Your Noggins.
15. What’s your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn’t matter if it’s canon or not.)
firstly i love the little disclaimer in this question...does this person think i've never been in a fandom before? but i would say my favorite for both is supercorp although guardiancorp is a close second for lena. for kara i think my second favorite would be superrojas but only as like a flirtation/fling, i can't imagine them settling into an actual romantic relationship lol.
16. What’s your least favorite ship for this character?
well not to beat a dead horse but kara/mon-el is truly awful. i've also gone over why i'm not a fan of supercat and i think the badness of kara/william kind of goes without saying. that said i realized i haven't yet kvetched about how inexplicably popular kara/alex is??? most egregious to me is the fics tagged with stuff like "oh it's actually not incest because one of them's an alien teehee 🤭" as if the problem with incest is shared DNA and not the power dynamics involved...like if you're gonna ship an incest ship say it with your chest bro. (also IIRC during s5 someone made an anti-lena post with a bunch of pictures of women from sg and the thesis of the post was like, these women would all be good girlfriend options for kara but lena wouldn't because she's ~abusive~ or whatever. but included among this group of good potential girlfriends for kara was alex which. Hm!)
as for lena i don't like lena/winn they're too similar and also i still hold a grudge against winn for his s1 nonsense lol. also whenever i see people shipping them i think about this post which always cracks me up so bad. [i don't like kara/winn either for obvious reasons but also i feel like no one really ships them? i could be wrong about that tho idk.] ummm some people also ship lena/mon-el and you know just as a blanket statement i think mon-el should stay away from women forever. oh and i think i've mentioned i don't vibe with agentcorp. just not my thing.

The "something else" is Sherlock's facial expressions when John insists on coming with him for the theft.
Sherlock does not want to involve John. I mean, he would have just started with the assumption John was coming with if he did want to involve John.
And then there is this. Like..Sherlock looks annoyed/concerned the whole time John is like "I'm coming with, it involves me, we're partners, even if we end up in the same jail cell."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He relents...and eventually his face gets better.
And then I'm stuck trying to figure out the nuance in his facial expressions and I start getting lost.
He looks less grumpy but the line is back on his forehead here. What does that mean?
Tumblr media
This is concerned and has the line so maybe concerned??
Tumblr media
[Also that sentiment. Holy shit Sherlock.]
It's not the same as when he's being obviously sarcastic...
Tumblr media
Like idk where I'm really going with this. I just...idk. There is something complicated going on between Sherlock and John this chapter and I'm trying to like. Find the words to describe it.
This all is the lens for the story of what Sherlock experiences that night. He's laying the groundwork for it...John repeatedly tries to make things go back to normal...but for Sherlock they are anything but.
You can kind of see that in the roof scene too, where John realizes that Sherlock is assuming John won't be involved in his mysteries anymore once he becomes a married man.
And there's this...parallel in Sherlock's language re:John to his language re:William being the Lord of Crime in the conversation on the roof:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I guess I'm just having such a hard time reading Shelock this chapter. He obviously has decided that sacrificing himself for John (and maybe for Liam) is important. He sends John away, letting John assume what he must while also lying about his intentions when going into the house alone... he's certainly not fully answering John's question about the misread and what that means...
[Was he lying about his intentions in the first place? Before all this happened?? Was he always planning to eliminate Milverton?]
Sorry this is so disjointed.
Anyway. Regardless of his intentions...the result is that things are NOT going back to normal, just like he assumed during the conversation on the roof. He protected John from the situation. He is going to jail alone. John can get married without worrying about the evidence against Mary. John may want to go on more adventures...but he doesn't have to worry about doing so while being married because Sherlock has effectively cut him off.
Sherlock communicated his hurt. Communicated that 221b will feel empty without John. Communicated that he has no right to keep John from his life because he likes it better this way.
Like...I do buy "friendship" in this VIZ translation even if I have read Sherlock's feelings as shippy here previously...but it doesn't really matter because there's still this betrayal. And even if Sherlock recognizes the way be was treating Mary was a test to see if she was worthy of John...like there is still this reaction of his to pull back and be like "You don't need her for respect. I respect you, I always have." And like that reaction just breaks my heart a little.
Again. Super rambly, and I don't really have a point, just a lot of feelings.

This might be a bit odd, but do you think MXTX left the ending to be interpreted openly across adaptations re: JC and WWX? Wei Wuxian has let go of a lot of his pride and learned some hard lessons about self-sacrifice and protecting people, and the younger generation is making so much room for nuance and kindness and thereby challenging society. I personally assumed they’d have that conversation eventually, but we didn’t need to see it to assume it would happen.
However, reading your translating of the phrase kinda made sense to me as well. Not all conversations, even if's about JC sacrificing his own life to save WWX from the Wens, need to lead to a point of reconciliation. Sometimes, we can acknowledge that we've come too far to restart or rebuild. It's bittersweet but I'm feeling conflicted on either end.
I honestly don't think she left it open ended at all, for either characters.
Simply because, that conversation doesn't matter anymore, what does Jiang Cheng's sacrifice matter after the extent of what they had gone through? Jiang Cheng built up a hate against Wei Wuxian because he viewed Wei Wuxian as ungrateful, and used that idea of debts to continuously cast Wei Wuxian as selfish and a martyr to show up others. Wei Wuxian hid the truth simply to coddle Jiang Cheng's pride and let his own reputation be besmirched because as he had said, it would seem as if he was using his sacrifice as leverage to downplay his own responsibilities for his actions. What is Wei Wuxian to say that Jiang Cheng will take well, he already hates that he has Wei Wuxian's core and his own hypocrisy about his own tantrums. Wei Wuxian tells him to take it as repayment, as Jiang Cheng had insisted he was owed since Lotus Pier's attack, which only goes into the same circle that neither can think of the other without debts having forced them together as friends to begin with.
Wei Wuxian's core and that reveal didn't stop Jiang Cheng to get over his jealousy of Wei Wuxian being kind enough to give his everything to make other's life easier. He doesn't like that part of Wei Wuxian, and doesn't understand it, his own "kindness" is reserved for himself and those he does love to an extent, but he is still resentful of unconditional equality and suffering that he may have to deal with. Note that he is still harassing Wen Ning despite the former saving his life multiple times already, the lesson did not extend to leave others be aside from Wei Wuxian.
Jiang Cheng said his "good bye" by letting Wei Wuxian walk away to his own future. That's not a bad way to close a relationship, is it satisfactory? Maybe not, but when you have nothing better to say, other than letting someone go, it's not supposed to feel like a victory for you. Letting go of hate isn't always cathartic, and it's something that you don't always have the easiest time ever getting rid of. You do not change your whole self when you just can't or want to, despite letting another person make their choices without your say. Jiang Cheng doesn't expect anything more, and it's why for the first time in his life, he doesn't try to have the last word in on what Wei Wuxian is doing.
Does Jiang Cheng seem upset post-canon? No, as Lan jingyi says he is the same nasty person as ever picking fights, and that's all the confirmation that Wei Wuxian needs to know that he's living and having his own life. Those sort of relationships always feel anticlimactic with resolution, but it is what it is, especially when no one needs to feel entitled or guilted into rebuilding something that neither of you really want to when you just don't get the other anymore or, only maintained it out of obligation despite having different wants and morals.

1, 4, 13, 14 and 22 for the 🔥 ask game! Bloodborne fandom
1- You know already because i am an npc with 4 dialogue lines at max and i keep complaining about all the same stuff LMAO. But yeah. Definitely Maria. The majority of the fandom sees her as either 1) outright heroic or 2) as tragic but not in a way that gives her agency but in a "oooh le poor manipulated woman who didn't know what was going on" while still trying to potray her as a girlboss who takes no shit from no one which at best makes her look inconsistent at worst makes her look as dumb as rocks. Let your female chatacters be messy y'all!!. This is the one i have the most gripe on but also i dislike the "gehrman is a misogynistic creep who is worse than anyone else in the whole world because he had a mental breakdown after maria's death no matter the fact that there is a character who at best is involved in three different genocides." I also loathe the "Willem was right and did nothing wrong and didn't order the hamlet massacre". Another fan unfavourite of mine is when adeline is reduced as maria's flower loving cottagecore gf. But ig that's how fandom flanderization works 😔😔😔
4- Eeeeh,,,, i am really block trigger happy, so i either block 1) when someone is being rude as shit in the tags for having opinions different than theirs or 2) when a person's content starts to annoy me so much that i can't just scroll past it anymore
13- MARIAAAAAA--‐-- most maria fans just suck out any of her interesting and nuanced traits to reduce her to simply "rude girlboss whose favourite hobby is kissing adeline and also maybe cries about what she's done. If we actually remember that the fishing hamlet massacre was wrong" also brador but i wont go onto a rant about it lest a lightbulb explode in my room. Either way, for any character of bb. Please please please write the adult characters as adults and not le sillay teenagers they're all at best in their early thirties,,,,, (and also don't reduce them to a single fandom accepted trait)
14- Idk for this one i don't have much to complain about cause i am super selective about them 😭😭 I'd say the extreme hornyness but for me it's a bonus lol
22- Hmmmm,,,, it's a bit complicated for me to say? I guess that lately the whole cosmic horror aspect of it has been really downplayed- which is a shame if you compare the bb cosmic horror with the lovecraft one and how you see that bb can also work as a critique of lovecraft's racism and xenophobia. Right now the most common interpr is the femininity one which i am not opposed to but also one can hear it so many times (and without any analysis- just the same thing repeated by big youtubers without any spin of it) before getting sick + people who are super fervent about it keep insisting it's the ONLY interpretation which makes it soo annoying. Guys. Guys. Things can have more than one meaning if you want to act intellectual about it AT LEAST recognize the number one rule in academia/literary analysis 😭

I cave. I was a radfem / am still one in theory but everyone is being ridiculously careless with their activism these days. I admit I rooted along for tighter regulations concerning transition particularly for children but it's apparent it doesn't stop there and whenever I tried voicing my concerns to other friends and groups I got belittled and told I was falling into the fearmongering of the TRA. And I also admit I believed that at first but now you can't ignore that the people advocating for the denial of the TRAs demands also cut into women's rights and that of homosexuals and protection rights. It's just too dangerous to play around like that - it doesn't feel like it's worth 'fighting' for if the result is this. Yeah I hurt when I think about the stories of TIMs slithering into our positions and spaces but compared to what is happening and planned to happen law-wise I hurt even more... So I no longer consider myself allied with radfems even though at core I have the same beliefs. I will not act on them. The execution of these are not progress in any way. So begrudgingly - in a two sides only system with no middle ground - I'll cave to their demands for the long run. Also I realise there are more moderate TRAs who acknowledge the two bio sexes (although they they still insist transitioning is possible) who also criticise the TRAs who are one the nonbinary trip (like you) but I honestly think we are all at a point where we can't refuse taking sides when the issue (to vote on) is black and white. Maybe that's just the election fear coming up. So my ask is to you as a kind of mediator/ person between the two sides: what's your take on this? Justified fear to have or baseless concerns? Is taking sides necessary?
Genuinely a really interesting thing to talk about!
I think that, the problem with "picking a side" in this case, is that beliefs aren't the same as actions. So when you hold opinions, they can be very nuanced and have layers regarding the validity of this or that identity, but when it comes to actually calling for societal change, that nuance is.... Flatter.
As a result, yeah, I think we *are* sort of forced to choose one extreme or the other, despite our beliefs falling somewhere in the middle, because there isn't any opportunity right now to push for those moderate views, legally speaking. The options are bodily autonomy for all, including transition, or restricting the rights of women and children.
I agree with a lot of tenants that radical feminists stand for, such as abortion rights, normalization of body hair, fighting porn culture/the sex industry, and being critical of the beauty industry (makeup, cosmetic surgeries, etc). But that doesn't mean I align myself with radical feminists, because ideologies don't own ideas outright, and I disagree with so many other core beliefs.
Radical feminists these days have prioritized their hatred for trans people, predominantly trans women, over the rights and autonomy of women in general. You're absolutely right and it's not an easy thing to admit, if you've been ascribed to a label and/or community for any length of time, that they're on the wrong side of things.
Because, circling back, it has become a matter of those two extreme sides, and radical feminism has chosen to fight for restricting everyone's rights out of hatred for <1% of the population.
To answer your questions directly, I do think there's justified concern. The UK is a great example of how poorly this is turning out. And if you plan on actually engaging in activism outside of the internet, I do think you have to choose a side, or at least a cause, to stake your effort into... Even if you aren't 100% on board with the cause as a whole.
I'll use my friend as an example. She's a trans woman living stealth and has been doing a lot of activist work advocating for Palestine. The committee she's a part of had a controversy because another member was accused of transphobia. This controversy was drawing away time and resources from their main cause, being Palestine. My friend honestly didn't give a shit if someone on the board had transphobic beliefs because that wasn't the point of what they were doing, so she tried to redirect that attention back to their work rather than internal conflict. She had to pick a side there, as a trans person, and she chose the pressing matter over the personal one.
I think it's something we can learn from and relate to.
I want to conclude by thanking you because your ask was really interesting as a fresh perspective. If you'd like to talk more, my DMs and ask box are open.

Not to like, argue with you about raw food diet for cats, but I think the problem with people feeding their pets unbalanced diets is a problem with unbalanced diets not raw food. Raw diets can be balanced, and if you buy them from a pet food manufacturer they are balanced (though of course it's on the customer to vet any manufacturers). Whether raw food is acceptable at all is a different argument, but I think that "people feeding homemade diets to their animals without doing proper research" is an entirely seperate matter from raw diets as a whole. Because I just as often see people feeding homemade cooked diets that are unbalanced.
I also think that using anecdotal evidence to discredit raw diets is the same as using anecdotal evidence to prove that they work. I could tell you all day that, under the guidance of my vet, I switched my cat with IBD to a raw diet after trying about 15 different foods (including the vet "prescribed" ones), and she went from being underweight, low energy, vomiting near daily, and having diarrhea minimum 3 times a week, to being a healthy weight, as playful as she was 5 years previous, getting a hairball maybe once a month and diarrhea less than that...but my experience is my experience and it can't encompass all raw feeding, just as someone telling me that their cat was underweight and lethargic on a raw diet doesn't emcompass raw feeding. I don't think my anecdotal evidence is more valid than yours, but I think framing it as anecdotal is important.
Also, I think treating cats and dogs as the same when talking about their diets like this is not really a good way to look at it... Because cats are extremely genetically similar to their wild ancestors, while dogs have changed quite dramatically. While there isn't much research on feeding raw food, there is a lot of research on this.
I'm not really trying to convince you that raw diets are good here, I just think there's a lot more nuance to it than was presented in the last few asks... Though you are just an individual and maybe it's not fair of me to critique the presentation of your opinion. Also, I hope that this didn't come off as me attacking you, I'm just hoping my difference of opinion can add to the discussion.
If you read my ask you’ll notice I said if you insist on feeding your pet a raw / fresh food diet you need to make sure it’s balanced.
I do believe raw diets can be done in a manner that is still nutritionally complete, even if it’s something I would never do for my own pets. I personally think you should cook the meat because why risk salmonella. I also think 9/10 out of time it’s completely unnecessary for an animal to be fed raw to be healthy. That doesn’t necessarily make it bad.
I don’t take this as you arguing, It actually sounds like we’re on the same page. I just want to make it clear I never said “all raw diets are bad”. Also as far as “cats and dogs are different” that’s very true but the diet still needs to be balanced

"# i think If you want a genuine critique of Batman then Leslie and her pacifism is far more interesting"
So true. Unfortunately nobody's been writing her well since the 90s or '00s. At least, I didn't come across anything featuring her in a well thought out way.
I'm split on counting War Games because 'she would not fucking do that' as people say. However, it is her position on morality taken to the twisted extreme. Still, intentionally killing or faking it, is very emotionally hurtful, like trauma inducing hurtful. Both for Steph and the Batfam and her mother.
Looked up the exact definition of pacifism and, well:
"Pacifism is a policy or doctrine of rejecting war and violence in solving disputes"
She kinda did use violence (emotional and body violating and zero consent from removing Steph from her life) to solve a dispute. Or to "free" Steph of her bat-duties, but it still counts.
Would love for Leslie to go after other batfam members and not just Bruce and argue with them about their methods.
Actually i think Stephanies death, either by medical negligence or a failure of her support system, is a natural consequence of Leslies brand of pacifism and while “She, personally, might not fucking do that” her philosophy might so its not as ooc as id like it to be.
So to discuss Leslie i think i have to establish two things 1. She suffers from being a (mostly) anti Batman character in a Batman comic* and
2. She and Jason are actually on two ends of a spectrum, with Leslie being “it is better to be the victim of violence then the perpetrator of it” and Jason being “it is better to enact unspeakable violence then be the victim of it”. With Bruce in the middle like “can we please get some nuance in here can we please get some fucking nuance” which is. Very funny actually.
(Its funny because Bruce, by being Batman, has basically decided to become the nuance - he will be violent for you, and by being so good at violence he can minimize the amount of actual violence needed)
So by letting Steph die, Leslie is essentially saying “no amount of violence can save us, isnt it better to die then without having inflicted it upon others?” Which is so very Ghandi of her, but also fucking insane and yeah Bruce was 100% right to never trust her again after that.
She is also - ok so the thing is, in-universe, being a teenage vigilante is. It’s basically like being a dance kid. Its going to have a profound and everlasting effect on the kids mental and physical health, there are side effects we still don’t entirely understand, but for the most part its just. Something some kids do!! Some of them insist on doing it (dick, damian (<-i have thoughts about why Bruce didnt want to give Damian robin ok) some of them realize it isnt good for them but cant really give it up (jason, maybe tim?) some of them are in it just for their stage moms (cissie king-jones) and some of them suffer long term consequences due to insufficient parental supervision (kon, pre-nu52) etc etc. Leslie is the mom in the corner who thinks allowing her kid to perform or even learn ballet in a studio is a slippery slide to abuse. She thinks no kid should ever be in that environment, and by Bruce allowing Dick to do so, despite Bruces reluctance in the matter and almost oppressive supervision, he has doomed an entire generation of kids.
She is never going to criticize anyone else in the batfam, because to do so would be admitting that kids have agency beyond what adults believe is best for them, and admitting that means being unable to push her “correct” views upon them.
Leslie is actually a pretty good stand in for fandom in that way; refuses to allow anyone but Bruce agency and independent thought, refuses to place blame anywhere but Bruce, insists a difference of opinion is grounds for dismissal of personhood and respect, and believes Gotham would be better off if Batman never existed.
(Once again i have no idea if i answered your question/addressed your ask. Sorry)

[Maybe controversial thoughts ahoy? Just a general thought I've been stewing on now that I've been done with TotK for a minute now.]
I think the reason I have trouble outright saying I love the story of BotW/TotK and even SS to a degree is because I feel like they've made the story too black and white. And yes, I know that Zelda games have always been the fight of "good vs evil" but...any chance for any kind of nuance within that gets completely blanketed into basically this person is bad and this one is good and there is no further implication or exploration into it. And maybe this is just me getting old because this is my complaint with other series, too. But I crave even just a little bit of a peek into the gray areas they're presenting us with, but we just never get it. Instead, we're basically just spoon-fed the idea that the "good guys" can do no wrong and the "bad guys" are fully unjustified in their actions because the good guys are peerless with no background on any of it, even if there is perfect set up for SOMETHING.
Like one example is one I discussed with a friend last night about apparently the Rauru hate going around. And let me preface this with I don't hate Rauru. There's not enough context and information for me to hate Rauru for the reasons the haters are pointing to. He's fine. But here's sort of my takeaway from that discussion: you can't write what apparently happened between Hyrule and the Gerudo as a black and white narrative of good vs evil because it's very likely a political matter which is very much ALWAYS more gray and complicated. While I'm not ruling out the idea of Ganondorf just being Ganondorf and throwing a hissy fit, I'm willing to bet there are WAY more political implications to it than that. It's likely a very gray, diplomatic matter where both sides had their reasoning and grievances for what they did. Like it's suggested Rauru tries to get the Gerudo on board a few times. Which maybe was innocent enough, but might have looked like him trying to rob them of their sovereignty to the Gerudo, and if he went to them more than once after they already refused, of course that would be irritating. But like...it's literally about perspective. In the eyes of the Gerudo, Rauru and this new country probably looked evil. To Rauru and co., the Gerudo looked evil, especially after they retaliated to what they saw as reasonable attempts to I assume unify the country. Both sides felt they were correct in their actions. But because of the perspective we're seeing the memories from (even though I don't think that can be argued because, if these are Zelda's memories, how do we get the ones like the one where Ganondorf takes note of the Secret Stones which is in itself goofy but I've mentioned that before), Ganondorf and the Gerudo are painted as evil. And not JUST because of that since, as I mentioned, that makes no sense with the premise of the memories, he's just SHOWN to be evil from the get go. Or to at least have some unsavory ambitions concerning some stones he should have no knowledge of anyway.
And to the same effect, they go through some backbreaking efforts to make sure the "good guys" can't be questioned on their own gray morality or decisions. We get no context outside of maybe how the Geruro react (maybe) to the Zonai descending from the sky to become joint rulers of the land. We're lead to believe everyone was just okay with this arrangement and Rauru and Sonia are well-loved as monarchs. Which okay fine but it feels very questionable and outlandish, especially when the Gerudo are at least apparently not okay with it. Even with Zelda, there isn't a bad word said about her, even when she's running around telling people to fight monsters in their underwear, insisting they don't research a specific ruin, and generally wreaking havoc among the citizens of Hyrule (yes i know that isnt her but the point is thr characters don't). She is portrayed as an absolutely perfect human even before the upheaval with all the tidbits you get about her doings around Hyrule and rebuilding. Which is great, don't get me wrong. I'm glad to see she has matured and was very invested in rebuilding the country. I have nothing against Zelda as a character. I'm speaking to the implications of the writing as it once again glosses over any gray area she might have (which they didn't do in botw BTW and that was SO GOOD to see her just...be human) and making her just....too perfect right alongside the rest of Hyrule's monarchy portrayed in this game. And I understand we're dealing in a lot of gods and god-like characters, but, even though they're LIGHTLY suggested to be flawed, it really gets glossed over, muddled, or just not addressed. And I think this is very purposeful to ensure that the narrative they want to share is maintained, even if there are some pretty glaring inconsistencies at time when you look through the cracks that are there.
Tl;dr: basically, I feel like there is a lot of gray area stuff that gets made completely black and white because od how the writers portrayed certain characters, how they chose to frame certain scenes, and the overall inconsistency of how they handle story elements just makes the story less interesting. It's fine. And they definitely did better in this game with story overall. But removing all the potential nuance and going hard on a black and white story is just meh to me.]

I love the idea of them handing braincell privileges to Elesa. Especially if she gets to be a regular witness to them going absolutely silly when you’re around them.
Like maybe Elesa tries to get closer to darling to figure out what she likes, mostly because Ingo and Emmet can list anything and everything about darling, but don’t understand the nuances.
I feel like Emmet and Ingo would go wholesale yandere possessive if Elesa told them that darling was into them. Like either they make Elesa take you out so they can hear you confess how much you like them or they just scoop you up and you’re never seen again.
Elesa is avoiding rain in between photoshoots and gym duties and her modeling jobs, and she stops at Gear Station to go to her favorite lunch place- She runs into you, and invites you out with her for some lunch! You agree- and the second you step outside, the rain lets up for the first time all day.
No. No, it can't be- Elesa thinks to herself. That's so stupid. And unfair-
"You guys can stop the rain?" Elesa asks them later, rather exasperatedly-
"O-Of course," Ingo remarks. "That's... it's not that difficult."
Emmet added on, playing with a strange ball of light on his desk, bored out of his mind. Elesa knows better than to ask what it is. "Ye, it's as easy as you lifting your fingers! It's a lot easier than when we manifested the subway, of course, but still- Such things are easy for us-"
Elesa flinched, processing what Emmet said. "YOU DID WHAT TO THE SUBWAY?!"
Oh right. They'd failed to mention that the long-standing Gear Station- the entirety of the Unovan subway system- was actually not that long standing, all things considered.
Elesa had a new understanding of how intense their love was for you, to say the least; No matter how much they insisted it was easy- That seemed insane. All of Unova- No, the entire world- Was being gaslit into thinking there had always been a super cool subway system- the greatest in the world, it was hailed- in Unova. But once she had her memories of how awful bus rides and taxi cabs were, you know what? She was fine with the supernatural subway system.
"Yea, something that was a smidgen difficult was convincing that big blue dragon to come with us back here for Darling. It was being so mean, I had to smack it!"
"B-Big blue dragon?" Elesa inquired- You know what, on second thought, maybe she didn't want to know- Please just be talking about a Salamence, or a Garchomp, or a Hydreigon- Any of the normal blue dragons-
"I believe you humans call it Dialga." Was Ingo's answer.
Revealing that whole thing with Dialga appearing on the edge of Nimbasa City was because of them, for the sake of you- She'd gone faint.
Maybe she could ask the twins to bring her a Raikou, she joked to herself, trying to rationalize it all- Ever since she saw one on a trip to Ecruteak City, she'd been enamored. Getting back on topic though, Holy Hell.
Emmet debates about making her a powerpoint presentation of everything they've learned about you- The only problem is once he starts talking about you, he can't shut up. Ingo can sort of shut up, but Elesa can tell his mind is still elsewhere.
And if they find out you're enamored with them? They can hardly contain themselves. You're probably running into them on your way back to your apartment- And they're going to confess to you right then and there. Or, they might wait for a more opportune, romantic moment. You're going to find out that the hovering-nature of your bosses just gets even worse as their sweetheart- But strangely, you feel okay with it. It feels nice to be in their embrace.
Would they immediately kidnap their darling, whisking her away in their arms to who-knows-where? Mayhaps- Depends on how much you gush to Elesa about how cute they both are, and how just getting to work with them every day is so pleasant- And what strong trainers they are too, their pokemon trust them so completely, and how you could absolutely see yourself spending an eternity with them, and you notice Elesa is... grimacing sort of painfully at your remark, and you think maybe she thinks your admission is a little embarrassing- But really it's because she knows that two blockheads from beyond the edge of reality are listening in, and they don't understand figures of speech.
"Brother, she said she wants to spend Eternity with us!"
A soft, contented smile spread on Ingo's face- Finally. They could have you forever!
"SHE DIDN'T MEAN THAT LITERALLY!" Elesa practically screams across the restaurant- And you're mildly terrified- Elesa makes up some excuse about suddenly being possessed- And you're confused, but still safe.
And of course that still leaves the problem of them making you able to withstand being in the presence of their "true" forms. And also convince you to be okay with having two eldritch-demons for boyfriends; They don't want you to just love their human forms, they want you to love all of them! Extra eyes, limbs, wings, horns, tails, impossible geometry, and extraneous organs of unknown function included. Of course, they can change their human forms to a slightly more comfortable, pseudo monstrous appearance- Even if that's all you can tolerate for now, they'll love holding and cuddling you in those appearances if you'll let them.

I have received a couple of asks saying something similar and I honestly don’t understand what’s that about? Please can you guys explain? When did I wish terrible thing on anyone?///
Please don't throw stones then try and hide your hands. You tried hiding behind faux-concern and sarcasm, but that's a pretty specific outcome from what you interpret as "jealousy". You're basically saying they deserve cancer for their negative feelings (plus, from a medical standpoint, that's not totally sound).
And I don't think everyone who's pointed out her connection to Chris as a reason she ever got to meet these people is necessarily jealous. 1) it's kind of true. 2) There seems to be this undercurrent of conflating her getting married to Chris and getting to meet these people with her overall skills as an actress. With all the talk of people getting ahead in life based on who they know vs talented people who don't have those connections who loose out in opportunities, I expected people to take a more nuanced approach to how they talk about this. But I guess not. 🤷‍♂️
Sorry it’s going to be a long reply because I am actually baffled at the audacity of what I have just read.
First of all I don’t try to hide anything or send messages that have to be read between the lines. When I have something to say I say it point blank. I think it’s pretty clear on my blog but I don’t know, you must be new here.
Like I said, I literally googled what were the medical consequences of jealousy and the first article I got was from the University of Rochester medical center. I did not make it up to be funny. Here’s the link :
So you saying ‘from a medical standpoint, that's not totally sound’ is a bit ridiculous. Unless you’re a doctor and have another theory, in that case, please educate me.
Another nonsense statement you made was ‘You're basically saying they deserve cancer for their negative feelings’. Don’t you dare put words in my mouth. I send my dad articles day in day out about how bad smoking is for him and how he risks having lung cancer if he doesn’t. Does that mean I’m saying he deserves cancer????? Of fucking course my father’s health is more important to me than the anon’s but I don’t wish them or anyone else any harm. I was showing them what they are risking for being so jealous about someone so insignificant to their live.
And finally, you again put words in my mouth and that’s really annoying. That specific anon was saying that Alba didn’t ‘deserve’ to be there or to meet big names like Scarlett and Stanley because she wasn’t in their league. That was a very stupid thing to say and -I insist- is only a sign of jealousy because she wasn’t there as an actress that Chris was trying to shove in front of their faces to maybe get her an opening or a role. In that case, yes what that anon said makes sense. But she was there as his (then) girlfriend/fiancee and no matter who was around that table, she had every right being there. So spare us the ‘but lots of talented people don’t always have connections to get the opportunity’, because IN THIS SPECIFIC INSTANCE, it doesn’t apply.
Can’t believe you want a man to keep his wife home for a dinner with friends because said friends are more talented than her in the job they all do.
I will not be replying to any more asks about this specific subject, I think I said enough and only made my stance clearer because some people MISUNDERSTOOD and were offended. In the end, I an only responsible of what I say, not what you understand.

So, while I do think a lot of the criticism of Remake Ada is in bad faith, I do think there is something to be said about how the design of the character does not match the personality they gave her.
They clearly want to portray Ada as someone who puts up a cold, professional front with a heart hidden underneath but the outfit they gave her still screams Femme Fatale and is in some ways even less appropriate than her original outfit. The animated direction doesn't help either with quite a few shots of her ass. Not that any of this is remotely the fault of Lily Gao who clearly knows what type of character she is supposed to be voicing.
Basically, the writing and acting for Ada aren't the issue, the design and visual direction are the issues.
I forgot I got this in my askbox! I can't really add much to this. You're right, but the problem isn't limited to Resident Evil. Many game franchises pull this shit no matter how nuanced they write the character's story and personality. If they have boobs, it's fair game to try and sell the sex angles. It's honestly their default most of the time.
The people who spend money and yell the loudest about the things they've purchased are the opinions that corporate will listen to. It's why we get the scene of Rebecca struggling in a wedding dress in Vendetta. It's why we got Claire tank top shot and then struggling while tied to a chair in Infinite Darkness. It's why we got that close up of Jill's cleavage with the licker tongue in Death Island. Hell, it's why you could look up Ashley's skirt in the original RE4, an aspect that a very specific group were so pissed about being removed in the remake. Maybe that's why they added all those close ups to Ada's ass and not her face. Who knows! I couldn't tell you. I don't pay much attention to the development side of media unless I have to fix a problem or it's an interesting factoid.
Also gotta take into mind who is behind most of the development process decision making. Is it mostly men? Yeah. Are there good men writers/directors who don't do this shit? Also yes. Are they the ones with the final call on all these decisions for the particular game/movie? Probably not. Which is why it happens, and why it happens so often.
I'm sure when it comes to outfit design and framing, thematically speaking, the stark contrast of Leon's old flame Ada to Leon's new flame Ashley could be used as a line of reasoning. Ada has to be the lusty forbidden fruit while Ashley is the pure fairytale princess, but I'm not here to spout bullshit with confidence. Ada was supposed to look hot and sexy in the original games. They did the same in the remakes, but due to her sweater dress they likely chose to improvise for the same effect.
Does it suck? Yeah. Is it good because woman hot and I do thirst for Ada? Idk! I'm still waiting on my fave youtuber to play Separate Ways DLC, and I'm avoiding spoilers like the plague.
I could attempt to go further into what design decisions define a femme fatale, gender expression, and how a woman and a man can wear essentially the same outfit but the woman's will be framed as more sexual or fragile due to how she's forced to move combined with the camera angles. However, I feel it's faster if you look up those mods where people replace the guy characters with girl characters in game cutscenes to see the sexism at play.
Batman and Catwoman wear the same outfit until they start giving him more armor in later iterations. But look.

Sometimes the clothes don't matter. I think there's a mod where someone switched Ashley and Leon's roles too, and you can see Leon doing Ashley's girly run versus Ashley doing Leon's manly sprint even though they both have shirts that cling to their fat tits. I'm sorry if you wanted something more nuanced than this. I'd say the only true solution to this problem if they're so insistent on selling sex is to give me more ass and bulging crotch shots of the men. It's only fair.
As for Ada's writing versus her depiction, her writing is just recently becoming stabilized and good. If they Remake RE6, we can see whether or not they learned their lesson or if these choices will keep being made regardless. Though they need to fucking remake Code Veronica first.

1/19/24: r/SketchDaily theme, "Free Draw Friday." This week's character from my anthro WWII storyline is Gunnery Sergeant Evans (first name never given). He appears early in the story and uses some unusual means to help the new battalion get off the ground. There'll be more about him later in my art Tumblr and Toyhou.se.
TUMBLR EDIT: I believe I shared a bit about Evans in Sgt. Irene Beaudry's entry. I don't know a lot about his background as he's only meant to appear in the first part of Genesis, chronologically the first part of the main story (though for some unexplained reason, it's presented second). Corporal Drake's role in the story has grown a bit more nuanced--he deals with various instances of passive (well...mostly) antisemitism (his very entry to the story is when the military truck Sergeant Camo is riding in forces his motorcycle off the road as a "joke")--so I imagine Evans playing more of a role in this fashion, as he secretly develops an attraction to Drake. He likely attempts to intervene yet is prevented from doing much by Drake himself, who insists that he just back off and let things be: "Speak up, and it only makes things worse," he snaps.
Evans, at a loss, decides to focus instead on helping get Camo's idea for the First Battalion off the ground. Almost nobody in a position to do anything is interested in doing so, not even when Drake presents circumstantial evidence of what the Nazi Party is actually up to, and it's a lot worse than they'd thought. The prevailing attitude is "Well, it's not our problem." Camo and Drake are near-opposites in their worldviews--Camo is the idealist hoping for the best, Drake is the realist preparing for the worst--so in an odd way they complement each other, and Evans realizes that the two of them working together is the best way to get things going. He attempts to act as a mediator, as the two do not get along well at first (Drake mistakenly believes Camo was involved in the incident with the military truck, when in fact he didn't fully understand what was happening at the time, and once he did find out he lambasted the driver for endangering everyone's lives); he also tries finding ways to convince higher-ups to greenlight the Trench Rats project.
I don't know if he or Camo is the one behind it, but a skilled surgeon, who later receives the codename Burgundy (I have yet to determine how the characters are referred to before they're recruited, so MAYBE they deal with these names before the battalion is even formed?--unsure), agrees to join the battalion only under the condition that he not be placed in a senior leadership position--a rather awkward condition, given that he's a second lieutenant, whereas Camo and Drake are a sergeant and corporal. (This was my attempt to retcon an explanation why a lieutenant would defer to people of lower ranks.) Evans may have a hand in convincing the famously inhospitable Burgundy to lend his services as part of a team.
He also approaches Sgt. Irene Beaudry to ask for her aid interceding with authorities; her position in all this isn't clear to me, but she's in a sort of assistant position, and can be very persuasive. She agrees to put forward Evans's case in the best light possible...if he'll come back to her place for the night. Evans finally hesitates and wonders if this trouble is worth it: He's in the closet, and isn't attracted to Beaudry at all. He also wonders if she plans to blackmail him if he refuses. So his reasons for going along likely aren't 100% altruistic, though his main motivation is helping out Drake, and he steels himself for the possibility of losing his job no matter what he does. He agrees to pass one night with Beaudry. Beaudry afterward holds up her end of the bargain and presents to her superiors Evans's argument for forming the battalion to send to Germany not only to rescue the captured American soldiers, but to spy on the Nazis; she also doesn't blackmail him. She may have a skeezy approach to sex, but is otherwise known to keep her word. Evans is squicked out by the entire experience but decides one especially uncomfortable night is worth helping Camo and Drake realize their goal.
Evans realizes he and Drake stand no chance being together. Throughout most of his part in the story, in fact, he's pretty sure Drake doesn't even like him. He accepts this, even though as time goes on Drake's icy demeanor thaws somewhat and there are subtle hints that Evans's feelings are cautiously reciprocated. The Trench Rats are formed and they get their order to ship out before anything can come of it. Before Drake leaves, however, Evans does summon up the nerve to abruptly kiss him; Drake is too surprised to do anything, though when Evans pulls away, they're both flustered, and not unpleasantly so. "Good luck," Evans blurts out, and "Thank you," Drake manages to say, and they part ways for the last time.
Obviously, Evans and Drake do not end up as a couple; Drake gets involved with French partisan Papillon while in Germany, and reunites with him following his captivity by the Nazis. He's badly traumatized by his experiences, but Papillon promises to stand by him no matter what and help however he can. Following the war, he invites Drake to return to France with him, and Drake accepts. In the United States, Evans is kept informed of what becomes of all the Trench Rats, including Drake, so he has no cause to wonder what happened to him; I imagine he feels rather wistful about what could have been, but wasn't. Just as before, however, he accepts this.
I haven't really explored Evans's post-war life, though I have reason to think he doesn't end up alone. A scenario started forming in my head of him briefly encountering another military person--possibly Navy--who offers him a friendly smile that makes him wonder; when they have reason to run into each other again, the other man's banter leads him to suspect he's interested in him. The only other time this happened was with Drake, and that never got the chance to go far, so Evans is really not good at figuring out how this works. When the sailor finally invites Evans to join him for a drink at a particular bar, that's about as clear a message as he can get, and he tentatively agrees. Upon arriving at the bar he notices there are no women there, only men, and that at last makes the situation crystal clear. He pushes down his nervousness and the two of them share drinks and have a long, pleasant talk. On the way out, the sailor kisses him, and it's nice, though Evans isn't really ready to do anything else just yet. He flushes and averts his eyes afterward, stumbling over an excuse to head home alone; the sailor smiles again and gives a soft laugh and says it's fine: "No hurry. We can go however slow you want."
Evans lets out his breath; it's amazing how just a few words can settle nerves. Still, "I think I'd like drinks again, sometime," he says, then manages to add, "And maybe we see where it goes from there." He briefly worries that he's doing it wrong, yet the other man merely smiles wider, and nods, and Evans feels pleasantly flustered just like all those years ago, after a different kiss.
