2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Alex: How fiercely protective she is. Listen, I know this is a point of contention in the fandom, but as an older sibling myself, who was blamed for everything my younger sibling did, I GET HER. And yet, there is no doubt that she loves Kara wholeheartedly. She loves her people completely, and she's extremely loyal to them. (And I get SO mad, because the writers used her so inconsistently that half of the shit she does doesn't make sense for her character, but I digress). But also, I love how quickly she folds when it comes to Kelly, like girl, stand up 😂 Kara: I love my goofy Kara. To have gone through all the trauma she did as a child (even when they ultimately gave her part of her planet and her parents back, she still went to the loss and trauma), and still have that joy and wonder. Her love for musicals, games and movies, and the will to still see the good in people. Please, I love her.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

Alex: I guess when she wants to force Kara to date useless men, and Idek if I can really blame HER, when I know (and everyone can tell) it's basically behind the scene bullshit... And that's a very particular Alex problem, because if the writers wanted to push X narrative they would always use her. So yeah, hard to say otherwise. Kara: To quote Miss Luthor; the God complex. Baby, not everything has to be you. And that kinda bleeds into everything she does, because for a good chunk of the show, in her own eyes, she cannot do wrong, and she's always right (particularly s3 and 5). Her hypocrisy is astounding. And yet I still love her for it all, because that's exactly what makes her interesting.

I did a lot of horseback riding as a kid!! Comes with the territory.

The time I got kicked, I was just within reach of a moody horse, so I had a tip-of-hoof-shaped bruise on my thigh for a while, but it wasn't bad. Far worse were the times a horse accidentally stepped on my feet. (The only reason I still have toes is because of sturdy boots. No sneakers at the stables!!)

The trampling was a Dramatic Event. I was practicing a two-point (jumping position, where you're kinda leaning forward) moving at a decent-paced canter, when my horse tripped very suddenly and fell to his knees. I immediately flipped over his head, and he trampled over me as he panicked trying to get up. I got very lucky, in that my helmet was bashed in and I had some bruising on my face/body, but the only long-term consequence was a chipped tooth.

Made for an entertaining dentist visit once, though. A dentist had all the stuff in my mouth for a cavity filling, then she asked me why my tooth was chipped. I tried to explain, but with all the gauze in my mouth, what came out was...

"I GOT KICKED BY A WHORE"

quite honestly is the kinkest filth I've ever written because unfortunately I had a conversation with a friend about how the supers are aliens and well. it hasn't left me alone for about 2+ years now.

But it has made me do a bunch of research and dare I say world building and trying to figure out what's sexy and what's science and what's sexy science which. As far as writing exercises go is pretty fun not gunna lie

I'll put the snippet/more discussion under a cut to save at least a little face even though there's nothing explicit in this snip

“It’s a dual process - Kryptonians are made to both deliver and receive. The difference in sexes is just…. How many a body can handle at one time.” “How many??” “Well actually - ok.” Kara pauses to close her eyes. Her eyebrows scrunch together in a lopsided way. Lena’s seen this look many times before - usually relating to work or Kara doing something complicated in the cape. But as Kara begins muttering under her breath in her mother tongue, Lena realizes it’s her look of translating something. Something probably rather complex. “When you do math, how often you have to remember to simplify it?” “Literally all the time.” Kara’s answer comes too quickly to be anything but the truth and the pink that dusts her cheeks a moment after simply confirms it. It’s fun, still discovering the vast complexity that is Kara Zor-El.

The idea honestly is to have two chapters: one to do the talking and character exploration, one to do the filth. We'll see if it ever actually sees the light of day but at the moment it is about 2k long which. Is setting up to be one of the longest things I've ever written outside of a school paper.

Also in case it's not obvious I'll just put myself on blast and say that it's straight up "what happens if Kryptonians lay eggs with their partners" and then I looked up how exactly Seahorses do the do and well. Here we are.

There's so many I cannot possibly have just 3, but off the top of my head: Slow Burn, Mutual Pining, and Angst with a Happy Ending. Can't go wrong with those. I also love me a Betrayal fic. Oh, and Hanahaki fics are just *chef's kiss*

11. Three tropes that are fine but overrated.

Crack fic. Gender Flip. There's something else I'm forgetting, I just don't know what it is. (Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with these tropes, and I've definitely had plot bunnies like these. They're just not my favorite to read or write).

40. So this is 10 words, but we're gonna ignore that because this is perfect for a Season 5 plot bunny I had that had absolutely no plot, just one line that Lena said to Kara:

i aspire. it's real hit or miss for me, but i genuinely adore every comment i've ever received even if it goes unanswered.

i guess it would be being batwoman but only because i wrote it as a cliffhanger for the sequel?

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

i generally always aim for happy endings, but in my opinion the 'happiest' is a crisis of indulgence but only because it's layered with angst. all my fluff pieces are happy throughout so the end doesn't hit as intensely (i think).

8. Do you get hate on fics?

only once that i remember: same person on multiple fics. such is life.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

i have tried, but it objectively isn't great so i steer clear of it. this has actually been a conundrum with my latest fic: sauce or no sauce?

i wrote a kate kane + lena luthor one shot once. does that count?

i don't think so

someone asked to translate one into german. not sure if it ever happened.

i haven't but i'd be interested, though i'm usually one of two people: a chaotic procrastinator with fading interest or the most diligent person on the planet. i can't guarantee which would show up for a collaboration.

there are three: 1. being batwoman | year one - (batwoman) i did so much legitimate comic book research and planning for this that it's a shame i've left it go 2. a handy handful - (arcane) i have 30% of the rest written 3. let's for flying - (supergirl) again, i actually have a lot of it worked out but for one reason or another it's in limbo

🍒 What’s your favorite character dynamic to write? (Can be romantic or platonic, specific or general!) I answered this one previously but found family is something that always finds its way into my fics. I think I like making sure Lena has a support system.

🍍 What kind of AUs do you like? Are there any AUs you hate or just generally have beef with?

I don't think I have a problem with any particular AUs although that's just off the top of my head. I do have trouble engaging in AUs where the characterization isn't allowed to shine through. I really like Body Swap AUs. I think they lend themselves well to really good character introspection.

🍌 In your opinion, what’s the funniest joke/reference/pun you’ve made in a fic?

Again, I feel like this is forcing me to pay myself a compliment and that terrifies me. I'll pick a few that made my gf chuckle.

“I know. There’s a store right down the street. And look at this.” She held up the menu. “Fifteen dollars for macadamia nuts. They’re nuts,” she said, giggling at her own joke. “Who are you calling? Is it about the nuts?” and Easing Kara into one of the chairs in the medbay was easier said than done and by the time she was finished a thin film of sweat had begun to bead on her skin. I did this, she thought, guilt twisting around in her insides like a snake. “Gideon, will she be OK?” “Looking at both of your vitals I’m far more worried about you, Miss Luthor, might I suggest more regular trips to the gym? Miss Danvers appears to simply need bed rest.” “I’ll take it under advisement,” she said through gritted teeth.

He wonders if any, even just one of them [waterdrops], ever evaporated, traveled all the way up to the arctic, froze and fell in form of a perfect snowflake. Just to land on frozen skin, to thaw and end up back here.

He wonders if any of them had ever fallen over the mountains of Austria, touched the very hand Steve had failed to grasp. Kneeling down he brushes his fingertips over the surface of the ocean.

He wonders if he should walk inside the waves and bury himself underneath them. Bury himself the same way he had so long ago.

The same way Bucky would be for the rest of time.

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

I was going to talk about a couple of small things (eg pulling from comic canon), but in thinking through it, I'm just impressed/in love with how this fandom exists at all.

This is the largest wlw ship on AO3. It's one of the largest wlw ships ever (not sure how many beat it out, aside from Xena). The sheer talent of all the artists and writers who spend time creating stuff for these two is astonishing to me. The amount of love that goes into each work is astonishing to me.

So something I love with the fandom... is that it exists at all ❤️

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

I don't think there's anything I despise (that is really common, anyway). So I will use this instead as an excuse to share an extremely unpopular headcanon that I don't think I've talked much about before 😌

I headcanon both Kara and Lena as bi most of the time. I'm not sure what we'd get if we went around polling the fandom, but the vibe I get is that a lot of people headcanon Kara as bi and Lena as a lesbian.

My probably-unpopular-opinion is that I feel like Kara is much more likely to be a lesbian than Lena. I feel like her relationship with Mon-El could pretty easily be viewed through the lens of comphet - and while her dynamic with James was decent in S1, they never progressed into a relationship, and so it's hard to tell what that would've looked like.

She reminds me a bit of Gabrielle from Xena (who producer Steven Sears has said was dealing with comphet, though he didn't use the term). Like, Kara - for most of her Earth life - is trying to hide, trying to be Normal, trying to pass, and I think that can easily translate into a sexuality thing. The way Kara crushed on cute guys felt qualitatively similar to how Gabrielle crushed on cute guys.

Lena, on the other hand... yeah, she had basically no chemistry with James, but I totally buy/bi her chemistry with Jack and the intensity of their relationship. That felt very real to me, and sometimes on other Earths that's why I have her end up with him in the (like on Earth-X).

I think some of this dynamic has to do with people's thoughts on the actors' sexualities. But that's just a guess. At the end of the day, anywhere on the sapphic spectrum works for either of them, but I think some of my leanings are different from the common ones in the fandom.

16. favorite place to write

uh it depends! sometimes i really enjoy being at my desk where i can switch out all my mechanical keyboards for the click clacks and sometimes i like to gallivant around the city and find overpriced coffe or tea and shitty wifi (there's this one dope ass boba place in brooklyn i enjoy a lot and i go there quite often. my scbb definitely banked lots of hours and lots of boba from that place)

oh im boring i don't really do research i pretty much try to get away with as little details as possible LMAO i would say for my anime fandom i just researched takarazuka revues which are japanese all-female stage productions (and then just never use it) because that's what the anime is based off of (shoujo kageki revue starlight, if you're interested in the anime) that or like a japanese cities to mark a roadtrip path for this one fic i wrote
