see what i think about the relationship between phoenix and trucy at first is that it was a constant work in progress. phoenix never has and never will pick up a book on parenting and we're talking about the man who was going "(this is so weird this is so weird this is so weird)" while he was asking trucy if she wanted to stay with him + what she wanted to call him and in the beginning it was intended as kind of a temporary arrangement until zak came back (which of course didn't end up happening for a long time. but they didn't KNOW that then) and in that sort of situation i think it's only natural that trucy wouldn't necessarily view him as a REAL dad and their relationship would evolve from that sort of starting point. and you have to remember that phoenix is USED to looking after people at this point yes but not in like. a fatherly manner. he's used to looking after maya and pearl in a manner that, at most imo, could be read as brotherly. his first choice of what trucy could call him if she wanted was not "daddy" but "nick" like they do. and trucy's only a year younger than pearl. so even with trucy calling him "daddy" i actually think for a while there their relationship would've been something akin to an older sibling playing parent to their younger sibling after their parent disappeared on them. as in neither of them know quite what they're doing but the end result is that trucy is safe and happy and loved and that's what's most important.
and of course as time goes on their relationship does evolve into something more father&daughter-like but i think that original element is still there under it all. people get on phoenix's ass about SOMETIMES bringing trucy to the borscht bowl and letting trucy run around with apollo (a guy they Just Met) to crime scenes and the like but honestly you gotta remember that phoenix and maya were letting pearl run all around the city on her own when she was nine. that's just how their little makeshift family Worked. and when pearl got lost she called and phoenix and maya immediately came running! and i think something similar is happening here—it's a situation where phoenix is like. i know you're very observant and i trust your judgment on things so you can do what you want and if you need me just call and i'll come running. is it what a perfect parent would do? probably not! but. and i need everyone to understand me here. trucy is Happy and Safe and Loved and she loves phoenix So Much in return and that is what Matters. since WHEN has ace attorney ever had Perfect Parents. this is NOT the series known for Perfect Parents. but there is no doubt that the love is there. do you understand

I see a lot of debate on this fandoms found family obsession and I want to add my two cents and headcannons that no one reaaaallllyyyyy cares about.
I think there's a balance of it that's good. For example, I think interpreting Maya and Phoenix as siblings is just as valid as best friends. Siblings can be best friends, my own sister is literally my best friend. It works with the dynamic of them both feeling like they're taking each other in after Mia's death, and I see their banter and can relate it to how my sister and I treat each other.
On the other hand, I don't like it when people give Phoenix and Apollo the father-son dynamic. I think there is a level of protectiveness from Phoenix, coming from seeing some of himself when he was younger in Apollo, as well as knowing he's Trucy's brother. But Apollo is an adult who looked up to Phoenix when he was younger, just his trust betrayed. At first it's a case of never meet your idols for Apollo. He also finds him irritating. I think there is a point where those two can get on good terms and Apollo forgives Phoenix, but they aren't family. It's a different type of love and care. They are mentor and mentee. Apollo will always find Phoenix annoying too, he just gets used to it and that irritation no longer is from a place of resentment, just Phoenix pushing his buttons.
As far as Athena goes, I haven't played much of DD yet because I started as the new trilogy got announced and decided to wait, but I think it's another case of Phoenix being protective but not quite in an adopted kid sense. He sees a young girl who needs some love, care, and guidance. You can love and care for someone a bit like a daughter without going all the way into they are my daughter territory. Trucy and Athena? Best friends. You know how so many of us have best friends that are basically like a sibling but we don't literally feel like siblings? That's them. They are an unstoppable duo.
As far as Edgeworth and Kay goes, I haven't finished AAI but I do see a little bit of adopted father-daughter dynamic, but not as intense. Kay is very self sufficient and made it through her teen years without her own dad or Edgeworth in her life. They are bonded over the shared trauma of losing a parent at the courthouse and Edgeworth is protective of her and his door is always open for her in the good and the bad. The paternal instinct is there and he would help her through anything. I feel like Kay called him Dad by accident one time and that did make them more like family, but apart from emotional times or jokes, he is Mr Edgeworth.
On the note of Edgeworth, I'm not keen on the adopting basically the entire prosecutor's office. I just don't feel like that's Edgeworth. I do think he softens yes. I do think he cares about his employees, but it's the vibe of a good boss being on professionally friendly terms. They can go to him for help, sometimes not work related. He can be a mentor. But he's their boss first and foremost, and in a more Edgeworth sense than Phoenix. More by the book. So yes he cares about them and can sometimes be protective, but not in a family way.
I do like Edgeworth eventually becoming Trucy's other Dad, but it takes time. For a long time he's Uncle Edgeworth and it takes him a long time to adjust to that even. Eventually he starts treating Trucy like a daughter, Phoenix pulls him up on it, he has a bit of a crisis. This is after the 7yg when Phoenix no longer has to live in the shell he did before getting his name cleared, therefore being able to officially be with Miles. Point being it's not immediate. He does immediately live Trucy but his instinct isn't familial for a while.
Honestly me explaining this hasn't completely gotten what's in my head across about I hope you get what I mean.
Also, at the end of the day everyone can have their own interpretation of the game. People will make it what they need it to be and that's okay. As long as what you are going with isn't illegal or straight up gross, go ahead. These are my own conclusions I've come to and it's these interpretations I look for in the media I consume, but whatever fuels your love for this series is what matters ✨

Ace Attorney game parallels (no, not that one, or that one, or that one ...)
One of the interesting things about the Great Ace Attorney in the evolution of Shu Takumi's Ace Attorney games is the maturation of "Weird Girl Assistant".
Our original trilogy Weird Girl Assistant is Maya Fey (obviously a perfect being beloved by everyone with taste why can't I preorder that Nendroid yet motherfuckers?), who is all heart and ... not so much knowledge, but a conduit to Mia’s knowledge. She doesn’t personally possess any legal knowledge, but she’s integral for Phoenix in accessing knowledge that would otherwise be denied to him due to Mia’s untimely death. She’s fully Weird in her Assisting.
Apollo Justice has Trucy Wright (obviously a perfect being beloved by everyone with taste), who is a lot of heart but not all heart. She has personal knowledge to impart to Apollo, regarding the perceive ability and his bracelet. It’s integral assisting to how the trials in that game will reach pivotal points, which makes it genuine Assisting, even if outside of that Trucy is plenty Weird. I would argue this is distinctive from the Phoneix-Magatama matter in the original trilogy (it’s easy to forget that Nick doesn’t even have the magatama in the first game) because Trucy is, essentially, teaching Apollo to do something he technically can already do, whereas the magatama is something Phoenix is given by an outside source still connected to the mentor (Pearl). Narratively and thematically they’re different, even if mechanically they function similarly.
Years later, the Great Ace Attorney gave us Susato Mikotoba (obviously a perfect being beloved by everyone with taste). Susato is an /actual trained legal assistant/ to the point she can masquerade as a lawyer in the second game's tutorial. She could BE the lawyer as easily at Ryunosuke, save for her sex in the historical setting of the game. She Assists like no one’s business and her Weird is no weirder than Ryunosuke himself, two young people who grew up in a country with recently opened borders, in a foreign country for the first time.
A reflection of a maturation in Takumi's depiction of female characters, a general wider consciousness of feminism in popular culture in Japan (something I am in no way qualified to discuss), a third possibility? I don’t think it’s fair or accurate to say that the evolution of the Weird Girl Assistant into an actual competent assistant is a sign of the games ‘maturing’. For all their goofiness there has always been a serious, darker tone in the games compared to the adventure game standbys of North America. It’s built into the series from the choice to have Phoenix’ second case involve the solving of his boss and mentor’s murder.
There may also be something in the connection between the tutorial mentor and the Weird Girl Assistant, holding the balance of knowledge between them like the centre of a seesaw.
The connection with Mia and Maya is obvious: they’re sisters and perfectly mirror each other in their relation to what they bring to Phoenix. Mia on a pedestal of legal knowledge, forever older and wiser than Nick, as her death fixes her on that pedestal. Mia and Nick never get to be colleagues, equals. On the other end, enthusiastic but underage Maya, someone Nick will always be older than and always be wiser than in the legal sense. We don’t know how an older Maya might have fit with the disbarred Phoenix Takumi left the series with; maybe it didn’t matter and outside the confines of the Lawyer Protagonist and Weird Girl Assistant, Maya could stop being a mirror for her sister.
Similarly, Kazuma and Susato are sibling-like. Kazuma, like Mia, is the tutorial mentor, but he’s only a mentor to Ryunosuke because he’s a law student and Ryunosuke isn’t. He doesn’t have that much more knowledge than Ryunosuke and I think it correlates that he doesn’t have that much more knowledge than Susato, the girl who expected to be his legal assistant. There is something like equality here between the Mentor and the Weird Girl Assistant when neither precisely fits their role mold. Kazuma is, I think, as weird as Susato is knowledgeable.
BUT WHAT ABOUT --
Bitch, you know I've always got Apollo Justice opinions to drop.
In Apollo Justice, Kristoph is a fully knowledgeable mentor to Apollo. He is an actual lawyer, he is Apollo’s senior, and he is Apollo’s employer. In these ways, he is on all fours with Mia.
Aside from being the murderer.
There is, frankly, an entire other thing to get into with the tutorial mentors and how their stories intersect with death and a turning point in their respective protagonist’s life and career but this is about Weird Girl Assistants.
So.
What is Kristoph Gavin’s Weird Girl Assistant connection?
THE INCIDENT.
Seven years earlier, in Zak Gramarye’s trial, Trucy is used by Kristoph to deliver fake evidence to Phoenix, leading to Nick’s disbarment.
In Apollo’s tutorial trial, for the murderer of Shadi Smith/Zak Gramarye, Trucy is used by Phoenix to deliver fake evidence to Apollo, leading to Kristoph's arrest (and possibly his disbarment but who knows in the world of Ace Attorney and Japanifornia).
I have nothing but love for Trucy, but she's the shifty, deceitful Weird Girl Assistant to follow a shifty, deceitful Tutorial Mentor in a game about disillusionment and broken trust, following a trilogy about believing in yourself, your instincts, and redemption, and preceding two games riding a balance between hope and despair, with part of that balance being a more equal partnership between the Attorney and his Weird Girl Assistant.

Internally fandom brainrotting again about a VERY spesific scenario, and I KNOW I'VE talked about it before but I really wanna again- (A.ce At.torney)
I've had the "Edgeworth Discovers Phoenix is pregant during Farewell, My Turnabout" situation rotating in my brain like a microwave for the past couple days.
I'm more than a lil obsessed with the idea of Edgeworth coming back to the police presinct and Phoenix having the just... worst tjne with all the events of that case alongside the fact he's pregant.
Edgeworth is in shock to see Phoenix, and a little more shocked to realize that Gumshoe left this pretty major detail out of their phone conversations. Phoenix is already frazzled because of the situation surrounding the case, but he looks genuinely broken and almost... angry? Seeing Edgeworth. Edgeworth even tried to reconnect a bit but Phoenix seems distant and deeply upset.
For Phoenix, Maya got kidnapped and is being actively held for ransom, Fanziska is not doing great, Edgeworth is back from the grave and looking over him more critically than a piece of evidence, his client is SURE AS HELL NOT INNOCENT AND PHOENIX IS STRUGGLING WITH THE TAIL END OF A ROUGH PREGNANCY-
He didn't even chose to take this job, and even without Franziska there to call him one- he feels like such a fool.
Throughout the course of the over three day trial period he's having contractions that are only getting closer and closer, but he knows he just needs to finish the case.
He needs to save Maya, and he feels himself getting more and more desperate to do so.
The whole final trial day is a rollercoaster and Phoenix is so overwhelmingly relieved when its all over.
But I can't shake what good drama it would be for Phoenix to not quite get his reunion with Maya, as the court is dismissed and Pheonix is finally forced to deal with the problem that every contraction had been building up to.
The next few hours (maybe even up to a day) is a blur to Phoenix, he felt so emotionally burnt out from the trial and everything surrounding it, and then THIS being the time his baby decides to enter the world is just... so much for him to handle, and nothing quite feels real.
Edgeworth jumps in to help the best he can, considering he's... seriously, perhaps the only sane and uninjured ADULT in the room. Phoenix is dazed and a bit woozy, a terrible trial wasn't exactly a part of his birth plan, and neither was Edgeworth.
Luckily giving birth goes (for the most part) smoothly, Phoenix is resting, Edgeworth has his final little sibling confrontation with Franziska, and once Phoenix wakes up he gets his happy reunion with Maya. Phoenix is almost convinced it all was a bad dream, when Edgeworth returns to check in on him and the fay girls and it hits him that all of that really did happen.
Edgeworth requests a little bit of time alone with Phoenix (bribing Maya with a few dollars to "grab herself a snack from the vending machine, or something.") And they FINALLY get a clear moment to talk to one another about... well everything.

What was Trucy's reaction to becoming a big sister? And how does she act around her siblings?
Hello friend--and other friends who asked similar questions!
When Trucy found out Phoenix and Maya decided to have kids together--as friends and for the sake of the Fey lineage--she knew what it meant for her, too. The morning when Maya called Phoenix with the big news, she was over the moon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Poor Phoenix was so single-minded when it came to helping Maya, that he forgot what it meant for him, too...
From the time Gregory was born to when he was a toddler, Trucy would help Phoenix take care of him. Once Edgeworth got involved with Gregory as well, she felt comfortable enough to leave home and take her magic show on the road--although, she did take some time off to help with baby Mia, too!
Since Gregory lived with Phoenix and Mia lived in Kurain Village with Maya, it was rare for Trucy to be in town and have her brother and sister visit each other in LA at the same time. When that happened, she loved being with them and showing them magic tricks.
Although Trucy was busy with her magic shows and eventually her own family, she did still try to visit her siblings when she could--especially for important events. One such example is when Gregory had his first trial after he earned his badge.
Tumblr media
Despite witnessing her brother grow up and follow in their dad's and his granddad's footsteps, Trucy still saw Gregory as the baby that she helped her dad take care of. ❤️
All and all, even though she sees them as her baby brother and baby sisters, I'd say Trucy acts like a fun aunt to her siblings--closer to Gregory than Mia or Melusina due to the living arrangements, but she loves them all the same. :)
Thanks for the question(s)!

I know we all joke about the AA writers and Capcom themselves feeding into the Narumitsu/Wrightworth ship.. But after sitting to think on it, it’s actually intriguing.
Because if you take the time to look at official AA stuff like merchandise, interviews or articles that mention Phoenix and Edgeworth, no one really refers to their bond as being familial like brothers or siblings. This is something that’s pretty exclusive to their respective friends, like Phoenix and Maya as siblings, and obviously Edgeworth and Franziska. But in reference to Phoenix and Edgeworth’s relationship, no one, not even official sources or the staff who worked on AA think of them as having a sibling-like bond.
Kinda makes it interesting and adds a bit of introspect into how most see Phoenix and Edgeworth as more romantically coded?

Happens all the time in the Ace Attorney fandom lmao
Edgeworth and Franziska? To make a long story short her dad took him in and mentored him after his dad died and she started calling him her little brother (even if he's older and in the original she says it more like "younger disciple of the same mentor" afaik) so God help you if you see them as anything other than adoptive siblings and ship them.
Edgeworth and Kay? They first met when she was a child whose father had just been murdered and then met again, worked on cases and became friends years later so now he's her dad I guess.
Phoenix and Maya? They became friends after her older sister/his mentor had just died and he defended her when the real murderer framed her for it, so he's "literally" her replacement big brother now.
Phoenix and Mia? She was his mentor and he "literally" informally adopted her younger sister, which obvs makes them family too.
Phoenix or Edgeworth with any of their employees? Bosses are parent(al figure)s now.
Phoenix and Apollo? Boss/employer dynamic and Apollo turns out to be Phoenix's actual adoptive daughter Trucy's long-lost sibling (even if neither Apollo nor Trucy know it) which means Phoenix is also Apollo's dad.
Simon and Athena? Simon's sister was in love with Athena's mother so that makes Simon Athena's uncle (even if iirc we don't even know if his sister's love for her mother was requited or not).

Yesterday I talked a lot about the gay subtext in Ace Attorney– it exists, and there's lots of it.
Today, I'm going to talk about the het subtext in Ace Attorney– it exists, and there's lots of it.
Honestly, I could probably end the post there, because that's my whole point.
But I'll elaborate.
I'll elaborate because the Ace Attorney fandom is pretty unique in that a large section of the fandom acknowledges the subtle gay subtext in Ace Attorney, while at the same time absolutely refusing to acknowledge that the blindingly obvious het subtext exists at all, and pretending strongly that it does not.
Headcanons are one thing, but even as slash shippers, we can't actually engage with the text in good faith without accepting that the dominant cultural perspective– the perspective that the narrative assumes and is written with the intention of catering to–  is straight.
An adult, straight, culturally normative audience is who the Ace Attorney is primarily directed at and written by.
Yes, there is deliberate gay subtext in the series. But it's written with the understanding that a queer reading of the text will not be the dominant/majority reading.
The dominant/majority reading of the text, and to a large degree its intention, is a straight one.
We need to accept that, as I said in my post about the gay subtext in the series:
"Phoenix Wright and Athena Cykes both have obvious subtextually heteronormative romantic partners. To an adult, straight, culturally normative audience, Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey read normatively as an obvious romantic pairing. This is also the case for Athena Cykes and Simon Blackquill. In Great Ace Attorney the same can be said for Ryuunosuke and Susato.
I repeat– to an adult, straight culturally normative audience, the romantic subtext between these characters is clear. If you showed these games to an American movie going public, that would be the obvious read by the audience."
To a culturally normative, adult, straight audience the relationships between Maya and Phoenix and Athena and Simon aren't seen as problematic. They are in fact viewed as the obvious pairing. Male/female age gaps with an older male and a younger female are very often romanticized in heterosexual society, and they are, frankly, romanticized in the text of Ace Attorney, with both Phoenix and Simon being protective toward Maya and Athena.
This is not saying that you have to accept these pairings as canon, or you have to like them. You don't have to at all. You're totally free to reject them and ship other pairings.
The Ace Attorney games are in fact written deliberately without any romantic confirmation so an audience is able to project whatever relationships that they want onto the cast.
But it is not written without romantic subtext.
A culturally normative audience just naturally assumes that Phoenix and Maya are meant to be together. If you showed the story to an American movie-going public, that would be the obvious, default assumption.
Having gay ships is not the issue here, there's as much subtextual evidence for them as there is for the het ships.
The point is that there is just as much subtextual evidence for het ships.
The issue is that people need to accept that the het subtext is real, and stop pretending that the people who see it are somehow wrong, misguided or outright predatory.
You can't read romantic intentions between Miles and Phoenix's behavior while insisting that the same type of interaction between Athena and Simon is meant to be 100% platonic, or even deliberately sibling-like.
You can't look at official artwork of the characters--such as Maya and Phoenix-- framed in obviously deliberately romantic ways and demand to know what the artwork means. It's meant to be shippy.
You don't have to like het pairings. You don't have to ship het pairings. But you have to admit that het pairings have just as much, if not more, deliberate canon romantic subtext as the gay pairings.

OK so as someone who just genuinely loved Dual destinies and is keeping my theis length DD apologia in the drafts at least for now. I genuinely want to know why people don't like it.
I have seen this take from so many AA fans who I completely agree about everything else with. I need to understand why it sounds like we played completely different games.
I will put some I've seen but feel differently about under the cut
Critisms I find unfair:
-it doesn't tie up the loose ends AA4 left hanging. We don't hold any of the other games up to this standard because they all properly finish up the characters arcs. Aa5 cannot be blamed for the problems we want to overlook in AA4. I do also love AA4 but it does leave a lot of dangling plot threads that the others don't and that would be a fucking nightmare to tie up *staring directly at sibling reveal*
- Clay comes out if no where. He's very well established through the game. He just isn't mentioned in AA4 just like Fran isn't mentioned in AA1 and Dahlia isn't mentioned before AA3.
Critism I acknowledge is a reasonable opinion people can have but strongly disagree with
-Spilting the game between the protagonists stops them having proper arcs. Athena is our weird girl for this game. She is our maya. We get to play as her for 1.5 cases. For the majority of the game she's taking up the weird girl screen time and she's honestly still doing that in the ones you play as her. She's just a weird girl who happens to be a lawyer. In the main game Apollo and Phoenix have a roughly equal amount of screen time by chapter. They cut the bloated filler not the arcs (yes I will argue that 5-2 is needed for Apollos arc. Its there to set up his relationship with Athena that us a catalyst later on)
-Phoenix and Apollo are OOC. No. Phoenix is still a cryptic little bitch when you don't play as him and in AA4 he was so very clearly missing being a lawyer. It makes sense. Apollo very clearly in the last case of AA4 regains a lot of his respect for Phoenix. No, he doesn't do this on screen but again that is AA4s fault not dual destinies. That's how he acts the last time we see him so that's how he's acting now.
-The Phantom comes out of nowhere. Plot wise, maybe. But so do a lot of AA villians. Thematically, he's the perfect fit. DD is a game about trust. Very, very explicitly. A spy is someone who can't trust anyone. The phantom is a man who's shut himself off so much from emotions that he no longer recognises why trust is needed. And also has an ability that directly preys on people by making them think hes a trustworthy figure. He's not an incredible villian but he is thematically cohesive.
-almost a part 2 to the last point. The Fulbright reveal comes out of nowhere. First of all 5-2 has some very very choice sprite framing lol. But beyond that it also is a thematically smart choice. We as players are conditioned in AA games to trust the recurring detective. The villain should be someone that we trust. The guy was likeable but also fundamentally always kinda hollow and did in fact pull a shit ton of strings in 5-4 that we all ignored because we trusted him. The clues are there. You're just not ment to pick up on them because of the formula of these games.
-Edgeworth doesn't need to be there. Again game with a theme of trust. He doesn't necessarily need to be there but his dynamic with Phoenix does. They spent 3 fucking games setting up how important it is that those two trust each other and in a game about trust his absence would be felt.
-I don't see this a lot but I did see it a few times. Blackquill is a bad prosecutor. Honestly this is a taste thing and I love him. He is my little bastard man. Also thematically he embodies the two people you aren't supposed to trust in these games, a convict and a prosecutor but is actually a cool guy.
-I've never seen this but I can guess it's happened. Pearl comes out of nowhere. Again theme of trust. Phoenix has just lost the two people he's been relying on to trust the most and needed to be reminded that there were other people he loved and trusted so letter from Maya and visit from Pearl.
-mood matrix. I like the mini game I think it's fun. My brain likes to sit and logically think about what emotions it would make sense for someone to feel in situations.
Criticism I agree with but really don't bother me
-Trucy is side lined. Yeah. I love her to pieces and will never complain about getting more of her but it doesn't make sense for her to not be there plot wise and they clearly just didn't have room for her. I am happy with my Trucy scraps. I would visit her and present every piece of evidence to her to get as much dialogue as I could.
-Klavier is sidelined. Also yeah. But he did genuinely need to be there for 5-3 thematically for that case. (It is literally a showdown between his school of thought and the one he thought phoenix had) but they couldn't make him procecutor because he'd be too much on their side. It had to be someone who at that point seems at least a little morally dubious. I wish there was more but I will also happily take my Klavier scraps.
-the anime cutscenes. I don't love them but I do have a little switch in my brain marked "watching anime" that I can flip and enjoy them for what they are.
-the switch of the voiced sound effects. Yes they are worse but like, I can live with it.
Stuff I don't like and won't defend
-turnabout reclaimed racism and fatphobia (also blatant animal welfare ignorance). I'm not defending it or overlooking it but it's not the only game in this franchise to be problematic.

being in a poly relationship with phoenix, apollo & athena
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: phoenix wright x gn!reader x apollo justice x athena cykes
tags: polyamorous relationship, wright anything agency, mentions of trucy, wholesome fluff
Tumblr media
all four of you are dating each other!
though because of the age gap with phoenix, plus him being apollo & athena's boss, he often feels a bit out of the loop
apollo, athena and you are super close and constantly spend your time together, while phoenix only occasionally gets the chance to join you
oftentimes, you have to pay phoenix visits late in the evening at his office, to find any time for dates. he's always so busy…
you might not be working at the wright anything agency, but you're always there!
you always bring phoenix, apollo and athena some home cooked lunch, to make sure they eat healthy and don't skip meals
and oftentimes athena and apollo rope you into helping them with work when you visit them
they'll practically beg you to accompany them to crime scenes and everyone they're working with knows who you are already, since you often tag along!
you get along great with klavier, ema and simon, due to how often you run into them, thanks to dating apollo and athena
you're also familiar with miles, gumshoe and maya, thanks to dating phoenix! but you see them less often, due to phoenix usually separating work and private life
the one person in phoenix's life that you get along with the most is trucy! she views you as a parental figure, while she views apollo and athena like her siblings!
speaking of apollo and athena, the two of them are very openly affectionate, always clinging to you in public and holding hands
phoenix on the other hand is more affectionate behind closed doors! he'll give you a forehead kiss when nobody is looking, but usually keeps his hands to himself!
phoenix also isn't very jealous. he doesn't mind if you spend more time with apollo and athena than you do with him! he knows he can't always give you the attention you deserved, so he is happy to let others fill in that spot!
athena is occasionally a bit jealous of phoenix and apollo, as she feels like she can't live up to them
meanwhile apollo is the most jealous when it comes to people outside of the relationship! he really can't stand anyone flirting with you, aside from him, athena and phoenix…

I've been thinking a lot about Phoenix's family, and I got carried away so I'm going to put the whole essay below the cut, I'm so normal about him
I'm sorry there's just no way that Phoenix has any sort of normal family situation, not just because they're never mentioned even in passing as he goes through extremely major life events, but also because of how he is as a person. You cannot convince me that the guy who fell head over heels for Dahlia two seconds after meeting her had any sort of reliable support system in his life. When she got arrested the only person he could think about was a guy he hadn't seen since they were both nine instead of any current person who would likely care that he almost got poisoned and arrested for murder.
While I think it would be nice if he had lesbian moms who loved him, it just doesn't quite fit in with what we know about Phoenix. I mean, even in the WAA/WTA the only photograph on display is Zak's, and if there isn't a better person to put on the wall than the biological father of his daughter who abandoned her, that's pretty sad. (though I personally like to think that his portrait was there specifically as a target for things like darts and throwing knives). Plus, we already know from the thing with Dahlia that Phoenix's primary way of dealing with trauma and abusive people is just to pretend nothing happened and force himself to forget about them.
That's not even mentioning this guy's abandonment issues and complete willingness to adopt anyone he finds into his found family with zero hesitation. He meets Ema once for a few days, someone he has no personal connection to, but because she reminded him of Maya he stays in contact with her at some capacity to the point that he keeps her investigative tools with him and can have his name be used to gain her favor. Also, there's that new years art where she gets drunk with the Wright's and Apollo. And there are several more young adults/teenagers like that, he's got that foster kid to foster dad energy.
What I think makes the most sense is either that he was given up for adoption/ was an orphan in the foster care system who was passed around a lot, never getting too attached to one family, which led to his abandonment issues, or that he had a normal family life until something happened that estranged them from him. As a staunch believer in Transmasc Phoenix my thoughts are that he had transphobic parents so when he left for university he cut them off and changed his full name which explains why he is so desperate for emotional connection at that time. He suddenly has no one but a dream to find Miles and a girlfriend whose red flags he's completely blind to.
But honestly, there are so many reasons that people could come up with that would also make sense for his character. Maybe they were emotionally abusive and since everyone around him has dead or horrifically bad parents he's just not going to ever bring it up because who is he to complain when his besties are Maya Fey and Miles Edgeworth. Maybe they were just absent a lot and he had to take care of himself (and perhaps younger siblings) until he just couldn't take it anymore. Maybe they just tried to get him a girlfriend to settle down with one too many times and he just refuses to visit them, not even on holidays like Christmas or new years. It's just fascinating to me that there's absolutely nothing about them, I think there was even one of those little (official?) comics that poked fun at the fact that he doesn't really have parents, he may not even know who they are.
I also stand behind all of the ideas from my Phoenix Family HCs Poll because all of them would be so fun to explore even if some of them are total crack HCs. Tigre is only 16 years older than Phoenix but you can't say it's not possible that he messed around in high school and his girlfriend just gave up the kid for adoption and it would be so funny if Phoenix had to put his own father into prison after he pretended to be him.
In my Fem!Phoenix AU where I'm planning on expounding upon her relationship with the Feys and her own spiritual power (Phoenix does canonically talk to ghosts sometimes), the spirit of Ryunosuke found her and kind of became her imaginary friend who appears sometimes because I love him.
Even the idea of the goddess of law making him as an indestructible little terror on the legal system would be fascinating to expand upon. I would love to read about the whole concept of law being turned into a kind of religion, is she a single omniscient god (is she single?) or is she part of a larger pantheon? What would that mean for Phoenix?
I just can't even fathom that there's something normal going on with Phoenix and his family, I think he should pull an Apollo and secretly have the most batshit family backstory. Just looking at this guy and you know he has some kinds of issues, he was an art/theater major, he's got to be a little bit of that flavor of fucked up.

the transmitter lol
love having a good and bad ending
KISS THEN
Summary: I absolutely love the Ace Attorney games. While I think game 1 was an overall better game, case 2-4 is in my all time favorite cases. I loved the introduction of new characters while also expanding on the development of returning characters. The game itself also improved with new music and animations. The music especially was really fun and I would just let it play, especially the circus music, Edgeworth's theme, and Engarde's themes. I wasn't the biggest fan of 2-3 but 2-2 and 2-4 were stellar. I think if this game also had an added 5th case ti would be just as good as the first game. But I still absolutely love this game, definitely a favorite of mine. The humor is unmatched. I had to pause and laugh out loud so many times. The writers and animators are real comedic geniuses. I love the trust and bond Phoenix and Edgeworth form, they are such interesting characters. I also love the addition of Pearl and Franziska, we love weird girls!!! Definitely a game I'll recommend to others! Truly a great experience!

Hellooo I'm back from the abyss again. So yeah I made an Ace Attorney Atla Au yehaww. (or maybe this even exists already idk)
Both of these universes made me hyperfixate for a crazy amount of time (it's not over yet) and I just love how many parallels can be found.
Also man, Zuko and Miles are just the PERFECT parallel. At the end of AA1 Miles gave me veery strong awkward Zuko vibes xD I also apologize for the terrible name that is the imposing Firelord Manfred. (cries) In this Au I definitely want a redemption arc for Franziska too because I can't deal with her not being included in group hugs.
Also obviously I'm not shipping Avatar Phoenix and Maya which would be the original Aangx Katara pairing, but of course the Avatar and the fire prince himself ✨✨ I also made them the same age so it just fits better. Even the rivalry and the possibilities of angst are so fitting for Ace Attorney which sparks happiness. I can't stop thinking about how adorable the episode would be where they learn the original source of firebending with them dancing together and having that beautiful moment in the flame vortex of the dragons arghhhhhh
Oh yeah and Maya and Larry are siblings here which is kind of crazy x'D Mia would be the oldest sister, and I think instead of the mom, Mia was killed by the fire soldier. I wanna keep the channeling concept but I don't know how to make it fit yet.
I'm also in love with how similar Aang's and Phoenix' struggles are with their responsibilities. Both kinda start as naive and idealistic protags but are severely traumatized as they meet the real world, still they don't give up on world peace/justice and find their motivation in the found family they made.
I also wanted to add Pearl in but didn't know how..if anyone has an idea feel free to comment ><
Btw I'm now done with Justice for All and at the beginning of Trials and Tribulations, and I must say, WOW. It just gets better and better
Oh yeah and funfact: The idea of this Au come to be because in the anime, Phoenix shamelessly airbends in the courtroom. I'm not making stuff up x'3

Different anon but I do agree. This is my observation with how the fandom treats Feenie. He's either this magical empathic saint who can read everyone and is super understanding and patient (especially with Edgey) or he's this horrible arrogant asshole after AA4-6 and a shit parent (which ok he's parenting skills are up for debate but the worst I just saw was someone claiming that he relied too much on Trucy emotionally that was almost 'emotional incest') although the latter isn't as prominent as the former, It really speaks volumes that people can't understand his character as much. He's so much more interesting in the game and I like how complex and messy he is as a character. He's snarky, he hides so much of himself so casually, and he can hold grudges and so on and I like that a lot.
okay i thought you were referring to "feenie" as the fandom knows him (i.e. turnabout memories phoenix) and i was going to be like YEAH LOL HE WAS KIND OF AN ASSHOLE ("Yeah, it was a plastic umbrella. Cheap and frail, kind of like the owner!" phoenix the man who tried to warn you about dahlia was just murdered and you are the suspect you are NOT helping your own case here) but then i realized you were just using feenie as a nickname for phoenix lol but i digress. yeahhh he does tend to be portrayed in one of those two ways and it's hard to find an in-between sometimes. when it comes to trucy i've talked about it before and i can't find the post but i really do think for years she and phoenix were more like how he and pearl and maya are (again. he even suggests at first that she call him nick like they do), or like. sibling-ish with a Really big age gap before it finally transitioned into something more father-daughter aligned. but overall the important thing is that trucy did grow up happy and healthy and loved. i think it's less that people can't understand him and more that so many headcanons are passed around in fanon (as with any other fandom) that if you don't refresh on the details by playing the game or looking at a game script for a while then those details get muddled and fanon becomes the only thing that sticks in your head. which, again, is perfectly fine for the people who just want to think about their blorbos having a good time of things, but less so for the people looking for character analyses and the like, haha. phoenix is an extremely messy protagonist and that's what makes him so fun! i think it's awesome that he's got so much nuance. and that's that, really—all you can do is make and share the content you like and ignore what you don't ^^

not a request but a thought I've been plagued with and need to put out there. Tall emo boyfriend Simon and short gamer girlfie. and they're BOTH chaotic switches
okay so this is 100% not what you had in mind sending this in but may i present to you one of my favourite ace attorney crack pairings because they absolutely fit this description
drumroll please
simon x maya
like i'm pretty sure they never even officially met but once my twisted mind learned they were the same age it got to work babes. like just think about the possibilities
he's been convicted of murder and maya's on the verge of being convicted of murder at literally all times
samurai shit. just samurai shit. maya lets him see her rare holographic steel samurai trading cards and he almost pisses himself because he's a freaking nerd under all the eyeliner
disaster younger siblings to disastrous (gay) ladies
both owe phoenix their lives. would also relentlessly bully phoenix because he's a loser normie (affectionate). disaster younger siblings energy.
simon would absolutely go feral for the idea of being a gallant samurai protecting the head of the fey clan. like mall ninja protecting m'lady *tips fedora* fantasies.
getting mcdonalds delivered and watching steel samurai is the pinnacle of class and romance for them
maya would definitely be a sims or a stardew valley kinda girlie and simon's like lmaooo that's so lame those aren't real games *secretly spends his nights making goth sims and has put 300 hours into his farm*. she owns his ass in literally any game they play together tho like she is in it to win it.
their colour schemes clash in the worst way and i can't ever imagine them being dressed for the same event
he calls her fey-dono and she calls him babygirl
they accidentally give each other (real) matching katanas at the WAA office christmas party and phoenix looks on in terror at the monster he's created (he probably introduced them) when they unsheathe them and proceed to have an overly intense impromptu sword fight
also i feel like they'd have like the tackiest apartment in the universe that's like part a crypt and part weeb merch
this is canonically their height difference do with that info what you will
