AFO: Poorly Written Or a Mastermind?

I was thinking today about AFO,and...it all CLICKED for me. I've seen a good amount of people call afo stupid because of the things he's done,and I will talk about that. I always like to say,this is my opinion and how I've seen it,so please do feel free to share your opinion as well,I'd like to see everyone's perspective.

Society.

Society uplifts and loves heros in bnha,the system works against Afo,but,I think Afo likes that it does. Let me explain.

The way afo has done things is to go to people who are quirkless because society shuns them,then manipulate and bribe those people to work for him. It works in his favor at the end of the day. He also goes to people who hate heros,and because society loves heros,it's easier to find people who hate them.

It's honestly really clever. Instead of outing the heros for their dirty business to where all people hate heros (because he does know about their dirty laundry) he instead uses the system and society meant to STOP HIM,against the people who made it. Clever. Also,I know you may be thinking, "well,why did he let the society happen in the first place if he knew about the bad stuff," Because,if you destroy a society with the thing that essentially has ran it for about a hundred years,confusion anger and anarchy happen,then you can use said confusion,and anger to your advantage. Again,another manipulative tactic.

Well,I know, "that's just unrealistic," is it really? Cuz, that's what he does and has done. With Shigaraki;he used the anger hatred and confusion he had to manipulate him. It's just on a lager scale. I mean,we see in the vigilante arc that people will turn on heros pretty easily.

But,there is oneeee colossal problem with this plan. Ofa. And what has afo done to kill off all the past users? (Expect the one that died of old age.) Targeted and isolated them to where they'd kill and destroy themselves all alone to try and stop him. And here's where the issues arises,Izuku would had died if it wasn't for one person.

Katsuki.

It's no secret Katsuki means a lot to Izuku,and that's why he "died",but there's more.

Katsuki is physical proof that people can grow away from society's standards and he's close with the person with the power that could stop afo.Katsuki breaks away from society,and that makes afo feel threatened. Soooo,what do you do when someone is in your way when you're a villain? Ya kill 'im!

The thing with Katsuki was; he knew full well that this power was a curse,so he was the one who was keeping tabs on it. To make sure Izuku was alive and is well informed on what he's getting himself into.

None of the past users HAD that. None of them had someone to care about them,to question what they were getting themselves into,who KNEW them.

Knew their limits,knew what they needed,when they needed to rest,that's why afo needed to get rid of Katsuki. Because without that isolation,without that REASON to live,they risk it all and he can win. That's the reason he went after Katsuki. Because he defied the society he was using against its self,so he got scared of Katsuki. And we know what FEAR leads to. Hurt. We hurt what we fear. So,he killed Katsuki to make Izuku fuck up,and to make sure he didn't have to fear the rest of society realizing how broken it was.

Ego.

Now,afo has done some stupid shit,taken some risks,and said some things were we're like, "Well,DUH." But, here's why afo is like that.

He's a narcissistic,arrogant,manipulative,self absorbed,piece of shit. And with what he's done,you kinda can't be surprised he's so full of himself and so self assured.

He's killed seven people with the power that could supposedly stop him,no fucking wonder he got so full of himself. This may seem to us like it's the story being simplified,but in reality it's just showing how arrogant he truly is. He's smart,just self absorbed. He doesn't care about something unless it concerns him,Shigaraki's strength and will power,it's something he's underestimated,so of course he wouldn't pay as much attention to it as he should had.

So at the end of the day Afo is:

An arrogant,self absorbed,narcissistic,manipulative master mind.

So,in my opinion,he's not poorly written,he's just so self absorbed that he's only realizing all this shit now. That's what it is. At least to me.

have you ever considered some abstract-ass pairings? like the "how the fuck did you even come up with that pairings?

im not accusing you of doing it lol, but i personally do and am. curious to see if i am normal

IM NOT TOTALLY SURE, because i tend to have very specific reasonings for why i think two characters would be good together, but i definitely think that from an outside perspective some of my ships can be seen as pretty abstract..

(under the cut again sorry im nonstop yapping for way too long guys..)

BUT almost any pairing you think of in a semi-popular fandom like saiki k, SOMEBODY has probably made content about it.. and its more popular in japan, so you may not be able to FIND ur pairing but theres probably SOMETHING out there about it, just in a language you aren't searching in or something.. like, toritsuka x kuboyasu is one pairing i have NEVER seen an english speaking person post about, but if you go in japanese or korean speaking saiki k spaces, that ship is EXTREMELY popular! theres TONS of fanart!!

so yea, whats popular or even what gets any content at all can be surprising sometimes.. like, a few of my favorite tdlosk ships are arisu x rifuta, arisu x aiura, and rifuta x yumehara (+arisu x yumehara but this is kinda popular i think) (im just a lesbian with a bias towards sapphic ships, i see two pretty girls and i ship..) and i shipped them before i ever started looking online for content and when i finally did, i didnt think i would ever see any content of them but. there is. theres plenty of content of them. theyre rare enough pairs that i dont think they have ship names so it can be hard to actually find that content since theres no ship name ever tagged, but it very much exists!

if youd asked me this like a month ago i wouldve said that saiki x suzumiya is one of these abstract ships for me (if you wanna know why i like it, i just like the idea of instead of satou being so average he balances her out, saiki just like superhero-ing every other minute without her even noticing. i also like this as a polycule which ill talk about in a minute-) but somebody on here posted it around that time LOL.. theres also some other rare pairs i enjoy like mera x saiki or kuboyasu x yumehara, but though these are rare-ish pairs, they still have a notable presence so i wouldnt quite call them abstract.. (also yo damn well kubosai is my NUMBER ONEEEE ship, which you could call a rare pair if you didnt go on tumblr or ao3 cuz its VERY concentrated over here and doesnt really exist anywhere else.. except in the japanese fandom LOL.. but yea its definitely not a rare pair over here, its gotten way more popular recently too..)

the more abstractness comes when you start shipping polycules... then its way less likely for you to be able to find your specific ship.. lol.. like the ones i just talked about, you put rifuta x yumehara x arisu x aiura all together ?? no WAY am i gonna find that, it may exist somewhere but youll never find it, or at least i couldnt lol.. some of my fav rare (more like completely nonexistent except for some IVE posted about) polyam ships are the one i just said, kuboyasu x saiki x hairo x nendo, (also love kuboyasu x saiki x kaido but this one actually gets content hehe.. same with kuboyasu x kaido x yumehara.. LOVE that one..) mera x yumehara x aiura, kuboyasu x saiki x saiko (x kaido maybe), toritsuka x kaido x yumehara, mera x saiki x kuboyasu (x saiko sometimes and/or hairo) and probably more that im forgetting... i also really love the psychickers x satou and suzumiya which im actually not sure if theres ever been content of them, i think the only time ive seen it mentioned is someone being like "theyre dating hehe" on a pic of them lol.. its a funny ship for me because its actually one of my favorites even though some of the individual ships im not a fan of + i also hc that satou is very very straight but idk.. somehow this works.. i feel like maybe if he starts dating suzumiya and shes bi and polyam then it might accidentally give him a sexuality crisis because hes probably never even considered that he could be queer before.. idk.. whatever.. it just works..

idk, someone give me examples of tdlosk rare pairs that could actually work...

DAMIRAE PROMPT REQUEST 13 "You need a doctor."

It's an early Sunday morning in StarFire's Cafe, with a hint of a sunlit glow that drizzles over the city's horizon and a light traffic that accentuates the silent and vibrant scenery. At this point, many citizens are still in their beds with a peaceful day waiting for them….

...and then there's Raven who's shoving 300+ pages of lecture transcripts into her brain for an 80 point evaluation exam on Respiratory diseases.

Her mobile phone beside the pile of sheets lights up, catching her attention. She releases her pen and taps on the screen to check the message. Raven holds back a groan only for a heavy sigh to come out.

It's not unusual for a client to seek her consult on another case involving dark magic right when she has a pile of tasks stacked up for the week.

She highlights some lines and scratches some notes with increasing fervor until the end of the page. The door bell chimes, and she finds a familiar green face waving at her. Raven pauses to raise an eyebrow in recognition, taking a sip of a still chilly Matcha frappe, before she resumes scribbling her last few sentences. Her morning companion, Garfield, busies himself behind the counter, only visiting her table to place a plate of bacon egg sandwich.

"Thanks Gar." She says as she stops her scribbling to take a bite. He shoots her a grin. For someone who just finished a 3-month mission, Garfield manages to appear like he never once had a bruise in his life. His dark eyebags say otherwise.

Raven knows the Night Shift has ended when he's around. Cyborg and Starfire are usually the ones who take care of their night customers. Demons, sorcerers, and other supernatural heroes (and antiheroes) from this realm and other realms frequent this café for business dealings rather than pleasure. She may have seen Zatanna with Doctor Fate and Batman once when she and the other Titans met for another recon mission, but that's a rarity. Night Shift has a magic protocol she herself created (protection spells, invisibility spells, offensive spells, and the like) in order to produce a neutral environment for the purpose of any legal (and allegedly illegal) dealings.

Day Shifts, starting now as the first few customers enter the shop, are for humans.

"Did you check your phone?" Garfield asks while he returns to the table behind the counter, preparing for the day.

"Already did." She replies right before her cellphone receives another message.

"Check again!" He says, chuckling at her gruntled dismay.

Raven touches the phone screen, checking that the message she received was from Damian Wayne, asking (more like demanding) “her assistance over certain perilous matters of the darkest magics.” She ignores the thrill (and a boost to her ego) at the sight of Damian Wayne (who seems to have an annoying glaring problem with her) seeking for her consult. He has a lot of connections (from both villains and heroes) and could have gone for anyone else like Zatanna or Zach through Batman. The Zatara cousins are notoriously famous in all magic communities. Any realms she travels or leisures into and she hears stories of them and not any of them are the same.

Still, as flattered as she is at his gesture no matter how it was only for business and not pleasure, she ignores his message. Her exam isn’t going anywhere soon and Raven does not want to delve into her own complicated feelings with her own soulmate as of the moment. Her emotions, like energy work, take time and effort to untangle themselves. Her heritage and her practice amplify them and while she has more grip with her own empathic abilities, mishaps are unavoidable.

And she doesn’t want to deal with them right now. She’s taken precautions to protect her energy and keep a balanced energy field around her and fortunately for her, humans rarely venture to this coffee shop on Sunday mornings so few customers are around as of the moment.

Unfortunately, today has other plans for her when she catches Damian’s energy at cafe’s alleyway.

Immediately, Raven hovers her hands as subtle as she can over the table and closes her eyes. She targets the surge of energy, and determines that he is alive but feels the dark energy lingering in his wounds. She takes a deep breath and exhales, visualizing an invisible barrier to keep non-Titans and villains away.

"Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos." Once the spell activates, she quickly shoves her stuff into her back and shoots up from her seat, leaving the unfinished beverage she ordered. It's not unusual for students to come and go so she slips past the now crowded line without notice. By the time she exits out of the cafe, her glamour spell has already been on and she's now in her hero uniform.

Raven makes a turn for the alleyway. She doesn't even have to look elsewhere to find his body, not in this cramped space and the ghastly smell of the garbage containers. On instinct, she casts an air freshener spell, flooding the alleyway with a mild floral scent.

Raven pauses as she catches the sight of his body. He's lying supine among the black trash bags, dark magic oozing from his extremities and at the right hypogastric area of his abdomen. It appeared as if someone just dumped him there.

Or... no. It wasn't that someone dropped him from a high area but more so that someone shot him with dark magic and Robin, being Robin, evaded the perpetrator as best as he could and dumped himself into the nearest area that's securely warded by her magic.

"Hello there, fellow citizen." Raven greets him with the usual flat look but she's aware that he sees the amused gleam shining through her lavender eyes.

"Hello." He says through ragged breaths but she hears, "Where the fuck have you been?" from the tone of his voice.

"That looks broken. You need a doctor." She says and it earns a grunt from the boy wonder himself. The silent judgment is already heavy with tension so she eases her energy field in, and focuses her attention on his wounds instead. She kneels by his side and hovers her hands over his body, palms and fingers glowing in deep lavender.

So far nothing damaging along his chest and upper abdominal area. She doesn’t sense any fractures along the trunk, extremities, and spinal area. Only open wounds are the ones brimming with dark magic. But wait-

Shit.

The dark magic is gradually eating through his flesh. So far the upper extremities and the abdomen have superficial damage but it can’t be said for the one on his right shank. Raven keeps her glowing hand hovered on the flesh.

They’re past dermis the now, she notes, but it’s only scratched the surface of the muscle tissue. She calculates that she still has enough time but at the unknowable rate of which the magic is eating at him, it would have been a lot more fatal by the next hour.

It’s now or never, she supposes. She isn’t familiar with the source of the magic but nevertheless, it can be transmuted.

The sorceress keeps her magic glow throughout his body and stands in front of him. She closes her eyes with her palms towards the sky and takes a deep breath, drawing out her mystic power from within, in preparation. She mutters a warding spell and a glowing purple bubble encapsulates the two, containing the unknown magic within.

Raven lifts her arms to the sky and her sigil appears right where they’re situated, glowing brighter than it usually does.

"By the power of Azarath, I seek your guidance. Grant me the strength and the courage to undo the sorcery done on this poor, wretched soul." She whispers. As if to answer her prayer, she feels the power within her brighten ten-fold, engulfing her and Damian in this majestic, blinding white light...

"Azarath. Metrion. Zinthos."

..until suddenly, there is nothing but the light.

...

Everything returns to its normal state of equilibrium. Raven completes the ritual and the ward and sigil all dissipate, leaving her with Robin absent of any dark magic. Still, she crouches down again and lifts her glowing white hands towards him, checking for his vitals.

So far, blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate all have normal measurements. There is absence of any contusions, lacerations, abrasions, penetrating wounds, or any other type of wound. The ones done by the dark magic are fully healed and there are no lingering scars.

She, however, feels the fatigue. Whether it's coming from him or her, she can't tell at this point. That was a powerful spell and Raven is going to need all the mental and emotional strength for tomorrow's exam. She reminds herself to sign a leave of absence for a month because ward work is coming for her right after that exam and she needs to amp up her energy shields.

Raven watches his face in the soft incandescence of her lingering magic and.. as much as she feels endeared by him right now, she lets herself feel the annoyance at the emergency call on a Sunday morning.

By Azarath, do they need more sorcerers. This fuckery has to stop.

She is definitely changing numbers.

the lights are sweeping across the dance floor and someone bumps into him.

that’s it. he’s had enough

just when he was about to go up into the DJ booth, grab the mic, and tell you to get your ass into a uber, he sees you

your skirt is riding up to high for his liking so he grabs you from behind and pulls you into him

Immediately, you start throwing it back

and HE BE CATCHING IT!

at first, he’s just standing there with a scowl on his face, but eventually he slowly gets into it, the alcohol is finally kicking in and he looks down at you.

you throw your hair back and wink at him before grinding even harder.

he really can’t take it anymore

you end up pressed up against the wall of the club, the lights casting his face in different emotions every second and he attacks your neck and you wrap your legs around his waist.

Eventually, you two get kicked out for public indecency

Iwaizumi:

He’s fighting his way through the crowd, your drink in his hand that you requested from him. That was an hour ago

by the time he made it back to you the ice in your drink was practically already melted and then he saw where you were at and almost dropped the glass

some guy is trying to dance with you and you keep swatting his hands away

he fights his was through the rest of the crowd and all but shoves the guy away, then he grabs you and flushes your body against his

“tch, i’m the only one that can touch you like that”

you begin to grind on him, with your back pressed against his chest, you wrap one arm around the back of his neck and the other on his waist

his hands begin to wonder down your body, occasionally lifting up the hem of your shirt

suddenly you bend over AND GO HARDDDD!

his face is soooooo red and he know’s that if you don’t stop soon, he’s gonna be in trouble.

for once, he doesn’t have much to say when your grinding against him, he can’t look anywhere else but your butt or the way your throw your hair over your shoulder

his hands run from your butt to your hair and back again.

He likes to make Ushijima uncomfortable by making eye contact with him when you slowly start to wiggle lower and lower down his body

“can you stare literally anywhere else?” - Ushijima

you kiss down his face to his neck and lower and lower until he grabs you to bring you back up again, “grind on me again.”

his back is pressed against the wall and his front is pressed against you, you turn around to that your face to face and you begin to grind on his thigh

“shit.” he whispers and you smirk up at him.

“Stop looking at me” -Ushijima

Asahi:

this poor, poor, man

the best thing about going to the club with asahi that everyone steps out of his way so you happily trail along while he creates enough room for the both of you to go to the dance floor or bar

at some point, he gets too nervous and goes to sit down at the table

so you bring the dance floor to him

he’s sitting at a table, nodding his head, straight vibing, when you step between his legs while he’s sitting and turn around

“w-w-w-what are you doing!?”

out of habit he grabs your waist while you slowly grind on him

blushing mess but he can’t do anything but sit there and watch your body

you turn back around to face him and place your hands on his knees...you slowly separate them further

“omigod whats happening? is it hot in here? i need some air.”

you love to see how far you can push him until he grabs you and takes you home *wink wink*

my (probably controversial) opinions on ships

Canon:

percabeth: their relationship set the bar so damn high i want what they have 😔 10/10

jasiper: i say jasiper bc everyone argues whether or not it's jasper or jiper and it's a solid combination of the two. tbh their relationship wasn't good. like good while it lasted but if they never broke up i would've been surprised. it was also hella fake, and piper is probably gay let my girl live hera 4/10

frazel: ✨no✨ first of all (here's a side controversial opinion) i don't like frank. don't worry, i absolutely love hazel. second, that age gap? um, chile anyways 👀 sorry if you think that an eighth grader dating a junior in high school is okay, but it's a definite no for me ❤️✨ 0/10

caleo: it's cute, i like how they were a whole "destined to be together" thing and how they both believed they could never find love, but it was rushed. i have a whole long ass headcanon about how i would've done leo and calypso and their love lives better, but that's a post for another day. tbh leo's probably gay tho. the gods were nice to cal 5/10

gruniper: tbh this was the beginning of rickald sticking literally every character in a relationship but i'm happy for grover and they're really cute 7/10

charlena: they're so cute they make my heart soft 🥺 10/10

chrisse: tbh they're also super cute and i really love clarisse not being "just an asshole" like everyone can be loving and compassionate and that's sweet <3 and her saving him from insanity after the labyrinth?? and her getting dating advice she loved him so much?? 🥺👉👈 also i was simping over both of them watching sea of monsters sooo 10/10

solangelo: they're cute but i ship nico w someone else peep the non canon portion. bonus point because i love will solace more than anything and he should be known more than just being nico's bf 8/10

tysella: cute and i like how even monsters can find love but once again just ricks attempt to stick as many characters together as possible like it was so out of the blue PSA it's okay to not feel/want/find love <3 don't let fiction bring you down ily and you're doing fantastic sweetie <3 anyways 5/10

zarter: yes yes yes just YES ugh they're real cute and let me just say the red pyramid/the throne of fire broke my heart but we got back on it 10/10

saltnubus: i- just- what the fAwk 😃 they're the same person ?? i, gIrl eye- chicas it's- ugh let's just get to the rating because words can't describe this ship but numbers can 2/10 (extra points for effort and not dead walt)

Not Canon:

tratie: YES V GOOD SHIP they're adorable please make this canon we have one more book pull some strings. i remember in my most recent reread of pjo i was waiting for tratie and there was nothing and i realized it isn't canon my mind was blown. loss of a point because it's been around for so long and still hasn't been made canon, like, around for so long most people forget it's fanon until it's brought up every once in a while. 9/10

jercy: tbh i don't ship it. like they'd make good friends, but even then they'd both have multiple people they'd put over each other. 0/10

jasico: once again a hard no for me. i just don't see it. like def bros and i think jason being the ultimate good friend to nico, yeah that's cool, but no romance just bromance 1/10

pernico: ✨no✨ 0/10

pipabeth: v cute ship but once again feel like they wouldn't've been #1s to each other, better than jasiper worse than percabeth 6/10

lukabeth: FUCK THAT SHIT NONONONONO GET THAT PEDOPHILIC SHIT OUTTA HERE RIGHT NOW -92736373937373/10

thaluke: feel like they may have had a small thing when they were on the run, but it's a no for me 1/10

perachel: this ship is so valid y'all are just afraid of having this conversation well here it is. it's more similar to jasiper in how if they had gotten together i don't think they would've lasted, but there was some thiqq chemistry and they would've been really great together. and they're also really good friends, stop erasing that 😡✨ 8/10

jeyna: they would've been so great together. as much as i love me a lesbian reyna, i have to admit jason and reyna would've been lowkey goals and super adorable and just, perfect for one another. super sad hera decided to get in the way of that :/ 9/10

theyna: tbh i don't ship it. i just don't see any chem between the two. cool friends maybe, but it's a no for me. 3/10

pipeyna: yessss now that's a badass duo if i've ever seen one. turn it up! 7/10

clareyna: y'all ain't ready for this oneeee ugh like too powerful of a duo the world ain't ready but they'd be so cute i- 🥺 soft clarisse and reyna but also stern and badass clarisse and reyna ahhh this is so shmackalicious, spicetastic, words can't describe... but numbers can 10/10

clarina: a couple of cuties and they definitely had something. not bad, 6/10

okay so idk if you watched/are planning on watching falcon and winter soldier but i watched the first episode the other day and they were speaking french (just a few seconds) and I UNDERSTOOD SOME WORDS DLDJDJ and i was so proud of myself. i‘ve only ever learned french with duolingo lol (i only do like 5 mins a day and that‘s why i was so surprised that i understood some of it!!). and yeah apart from latin i feel like italian, german, french and english are all similar in a sense.. i mean obviously they‘re completely different languages but for example there are some grammatical constructions in french that i think i wouldn‘t understand if i only spoke english? so when i translate those things into english you can‘t directly translate them bc you say things differently, but when i translate them into german then it makes more sense to me. idk that‘s something i noticed so i feel like if you already know multiple languages it‘s easier to learn another language compared to if you only know one language and are trying to learn a second one. even if the languages aren‘t similar then i think you get the hang of it easier.

ikd slsjsjs also i don‘t want you to think that i‘m a linguistic genius or anything lmfao, like i‘m only fluent in english and german and i‘m just a wannabe (ew that word) polyglot sksj (yes i had to google polyglot— i do think learning ancient greek would be super cool tho? like imagine studying latin AND ancient greek, whew). and honestly i don‘t think i‘ll ever be fluent in another language bc i don‘t plan on living anywhere other than germany or possibly england and i‘m not dedicated enough to properly learn any other languages esp if i don‘t have anyone to speak the language with. but i still try my best and i just love language/languages as a whole so yeah i‘m happy & just learning as much as i can dkdjh🥰

(I guess language/linguistics are/is my passion (which sounds sooo lame lmaoooo) and the word passion comes from the latin word pati (i think💀) which means to suffer, and in german passion is called Leidenschaft which basically means suffering too, idk why i‘m telling you this maybe you know it already. but ok dumb fun fact, in german you can make compound words with as many words as you like, and the longest official german word is Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz which is a law for the monitoring of labels on beef... this is such a dumb fact but i think about that word like once a day idk why dodjsjsj so... 👁👄👁)

(so in non-covid times i always go to croatia with my dad during the summer, and even before ever watching a shark film i was always kind of scared in water.. but after watching so many shark films wldjdj HELP Like you know when you go deeper into the ocean and you can‘t see or feel the ground/floor? anymore.. then i just start imagining sharks. like i can‘t help it i just imagine a shark sneaking up on me or feeling something graze my foot ABD I JUST START FREAKING OUT SSKJSHSJ. idk. anyway kdkdh i do love the ocean/swimming though but the older i get the more i realise how fucking scary the ocean is ( even if we’re gonna disregard sharks)

having words tattooed on your wrist from the moment your born may seem weird but when the world works around the soulmate program, it begins to make more sense. to make life a little more interesting, the words are not the first thing your soulmate says to you, just a phrase that one day will leave their lips.

“i can not believe you’re friends with someone so annoying.” yn said as she sat down next to her little brother, huening kai.

“he’s not that bad. why do you hate him so much?” he poured himself some orange juice.

“well let’s start with this morning. one, i wasn’t told he’d be sleeping over so imagine my surprise when i come out of my room and see him in the hallway.” huening kai had a sheepish smile on his face. “second, after a horrible conversation, i tried to go to the bathroom and guess who just had to go at that exact moment?!”

“yeonjun?”

“yeonjun!”

“yes honey?” speaking of the devil, he walked into their kitchen and smiled at yn who gave him an eye roll as a response.

“did you fall in the toilet? or do you always take that long in the bathroom?”

“it takes time to look this good.” huening kai laughed as his sister stood up to go to the bathroom.

yeonjun sat down after grabbing some food for himself. “are you ever gonna tell her?” the younger boy questioned. “that you guys are soulmates?”

“nah, when the time comes it’ll come. i wish she wouldn’t hide her wrist all the damn time. that way i could plan the perfect time to say what i have to say.” huening kai shook his head at his friends antics.

“hey yn,” she had just come back and she regretted not going straight to her room. “do you think when fish talk, it gets carried in bubbles?” her eyes grew wide which caused both yeonjun and huening kai to look at her weird.

“no! god, why!! it can’t be you. why did you say that?!? oh my god.” she yelled touching her wrist. when your soulmate says the words, a stinging sensation occurs as the words disappear, just in case you needed more reassurance.

yeonjun laughed,” that’s what was on your wrist? wow i expected to be able to play this game at least a little bit longer.”

“wait... you knew? why did you keep it a secret?”

“you’re cute when you’re annoyed.” he shrugged his shoulders.

“huening kai?” he looked up at her,” why don’t you look surprised?”

he looked at the floor,” well you see... i was there when yeonjun found out you were his soulmate. it was at my birthday party.”

“god you are so infuriating! what did i do to get paired up with the one person who never knows how to-“ she was cut off by him pulling her into a kiss. she relaxed into his touch, no matter how much she didn’t want to. when they pulled away he smiled at her, looking at her with love in his eyes. she realized he always did, from the moment they met.

“shut up? i could say the same about you.” she rolled her eyes and hit his arm weakly.

“just because we’re soulmates doesn’t change the fact you’re the most annoying person i’ve ever met.”

he laughed, “well get used to it honey. i’m gonna annoy you for the rest of our lives.”

when lunch rolled by, she was basically jumping in her spot in line. she grabbed some food and hurried out of the busy lunchroom. she didn’t notice the group of boys smiling at her as she went.

“wow... she’s cute. soobin got lucky,” beomgyu commented as the door closed behind her. the other boys nodded as they ate their lunch.

she took a deep breath, opening the door to the lunchroom.

“soulmate... hi.” she locked eyes with a pair of warm brown eyes. “i’m soobin.” he smiled and she felt her heart flutter.

when the new way to find your soulmate was revealed, hair dye was sold out in stores across the country. companies tried to come out with unique colors, the normal reds, browns, and blondes no longer being sold. no matter what color you dye your hair, a small piece of your hair will always match your soulmates. and as long as they keep changing their hair color, the strand does too.

yn looked in the mirror, the strand of hair that links her to her soulmate changing again.

“this kid is going to go bald by the time i meet them.” she said as she picked the now grey strand. she picked a strand of her natural brown hair. her mother said she wasn’t allowed to dye her hair until she was 16. and unfortunately for her, that wasn’t for another month.

she walked downstairs for lunch, texting her friend taehyun as she went.

“they dyed their hair again?” her mother asked, staring at her daughter’s soulmate link. she nodded her head.

“yeah, is it okay if i go hang out with taehyun today?”

“yes of course. i really like that boy. he doesn’t follow the trend to kill your hair like the rest of your generation, sad he isn’t your soulmate.” you stayed silent as you ate your food.

for some reason, her mother was highly agaisnt the dying of ones hair. in her time, her soulmate link was the time clock in one’s wrist, counting down till the day the two meet. it took two years of begging for yn to finally convince her to dye her hair and next month, it’ll finally happen.

“he’s here! bye mom!” she kissed her cheek and rushed out to taehyun’s car.

“nice strand.” he laughed as he drove out of her street.

“thanks,” she laughed and plugged her phone into the aux, playing her music. “what are we gonna do today?”

“i’m actually going to dye my hair today.” she laughed right away and taehyun frowned. “it’s not funny!”

“it is when my mom spent the morning gushing about how ‘you aren’t like everyone else in our generation’”.

“she said that? maybe i shouldn’t do it then... i don’t know beomgyu said i should.”

“who’s beomgyu?” she questioned as they stopped at the local shopping center.

“he’s my friend from my music class. he dyes his hair a lot, he said he’d do it for me. i was actually wondering if you’d come with me? i don’t want to be alone.”

“of course i’ll come, but you’re dying your hair not getting married.” she laughed and he rolled his eyes as they stopped at the hair dye.

“what color should i get? do you think blue suits me? no right. what about red? no, everyone has red. pink? what if i match it to my strand?”

“why would you do that?” she looked at the strand in his hair, it was a bright pink color.

“i don’t know, i’m stressed.” she laughed at him. “what if you just bleach it? go blonde? no one is blonde anymore.”

he nodded his head,” you’re right. let me call beomgyu and ask if he has bleach. do you want to grab some snacks?” she went to the snack aisle and grabbed anything she could carry.

“okay he has ble- wow.” taehyun laughed,” need help?”

“yes please,” he grabbed a couple bags out of her hand.

“hey what if i buy your hair dye? early birthday present?”

“really? okay!” she rushed back to the hairdye and grabbed the pink one she eyeing.

“wow, you’ve really thought about this.”

“yup! now let’s go pay.”

they got out of the car with the bags in their hands, taehyun knocked on the door and a boy with brown hair and warm eyes opened.

“taehyun! taehyun’s friend! come in!” they walked in and set their stuff on the table.

“ooo pretty,” the boy picked up yn’s soulmate link. “that looks like beomgyu hyung’s hair color.”

“what?” both taehyun and yn said.

“hey, you ready?” a boy, beomgyu she assumed, walked out. she looked at his hair and then to the strand that the boy held in his hand.

“you dyed your hair.” taehyun said in the silence but yn and beomgyu‘s eyes never left each other’s.

“beomgyu,” he whispered.

“hey this is cute and all and no offense to you, but she has brown hair. a lot of people have brown hair.” one of the boys on the couch said.

“we bought pink hair dye, what if we dye her hair?” taehyun asked. “are you crazy? my mom would kill me!” she turned to look at her best friend, finally looking away from beomgyu.

“it’s the only way to know for sure.” and that’s how 4 and a half hours later, she stood in front of her mom. her brown hair long gone, now a light pink color with a strand of grey, holding hands with the boy that dyed her hair. his never changing brown strand now matching her new color perfectly.

A rookie might mistake her for just another agent, if it weren't for the two guards that followed her around. She's the second in command of the faction and is smarter than anyone I know and will ever know combined.

I sit up quickly, saluting her. I say a quick greeting. "Madam superior."

"At ease agent. I've come here as a friend not a superior." her voice is strong, but sincere.

"Ma'am." I lower my arm, but stay sitting up despite my fatigue.

"Stop that. I know you're not quite well. You can lay down." Mirra orders.

"Thank you ma'am." I let myself relax.

"I'm sorry about special agent Lester. We're working on a team right now to help get him back." she says.

"Yes ma'am. May I ask who you have picked out for the team?"

"That's actually what I wanted to talk to you about. If you are well enough by tomorrow morning I want you to lead the team."

My eyes widen and I sputter. "Madam superior I-I..That's is such an honor, b-but my condition. I'm not stable."

"Your condition is exactly why I want you to go. I am told that your condition gives you remarkable strength, let alone your already previous abilities. You have the skill to be a leader. I don't want anyone else for the job."

When she finishes it's hard for me to keep my jaw from dropping. Endless appreciations fall from my lips. Praise from a superior is one of the greatest honors.

"I only expect the best from you." Her eyes soften. "You'll do good Daniel."

With that she was out the door, a guard on either side. I was left speechless.

A mission? Voix asks.

"Yes, a mission." I confirms while flipping through memories of some of my favorite missions. "And you need to be on your best behavior because I'm not gonna let anything stand in the way of saving Phil. Including myself."

This is 'beautiful' Voix comments, sounding mesmerized. That the word right? When you seem something you thing is good and you want to say that it is more than good?"

"Almost," I chuckle, "But my fighting is less beautiful and more brutal. I don't always fight fair."

How did you learn how to do this? You're a killing machine. Voix giggles.

It's a long story and I'm not anymore, that was a long time ago.

Tell me. Tell me. Tell me. I've got nothing, but time. Pleeease? They beg.

I sigh before giving in.

I was fifteen when the war broke out. My brother was twelve. Because of our age the government took us away to begin training. We were about half way to the training camp when our bus was attacked. The adults were killed and most of the children were taken, but I had ran. I took Adrian by the arm and we ran like hell. After days of wandering we came upon the φονιάς faction. They were strict but all around a good place, until the sickness swept through. For two years the sickness was the main cause of death in our faction. People died left and right and the defence dropped significantly. A new superior over threw the one before and everything got a lot worse. Adrian had died, or so I thought, and I was angry with the world. By that time I was eighteen and ready to fight. Due to my small frame and weak body I failed continuously. Because of this I train harder than anyone there. I'd spend hours on end learning hand-to-hand combat, how to use a gun properly, and my personal favorite, knives. I worked with men three times my size and got my ass handed to me again and again. Slowly I got better and bigger. By the time I was twenty I was able to take down every opponent thrown my way.

Years later I found out my parents had been killed in a fire. I left φονιάς wanting to find a new place, somewhere to forget about my dead family and start a new. That's when I found this place. For a while I killed every 'bad guy' I came across. One day madam superior partnered me with Phil. I've learned so much from him. I learned how to forgive the world, to not harm, but save it. That people can be kind and gentle without appearing weak. He taught me that just because someone is gone, it doesn't mean they aren't with you. Phil became my partner, but he also became my truest friend. I stopped killing so ruthlessly and fighting became a business not a sport. I didn't need to kill.

That's what I've been trying to teach you we don't need to kill to feel powerful. And we aren't weak for saving someone else. It's what makes us stronger.

Voix seemed speechless. Finally in a small whisper. We can save him, but only him. I'll behave this once.

I let out a breathe I didn't realize I was holding. Thank you.
