First fic: The Curious Case of Emma Cassidy. The very first fic I'd been inspired to write in years, and my first OUAT fic. I joined the fandom at the end of season 3 and was mildly obsessed with New York City Serenade, and wanted to explore what would have happened if Neal had joined Emma and Henry in New York (he didn't come over with the curse! Why would he have had to go back to the Enchanted Forest?). I think a lot of people skipped it because I was a new and unknown writer in the fandom (fair!), and because people mistakenly thought it was Neal/Emma fic (not fair, read the tags! Or as it was originally only posted to FFnet, read the pairing!).

Last fic: David Nolan Fucks Up Christmas. Written for OptomisticGirl herself! Goofy OUAT Christmas fic where Emma and Killian get snowed in at IKEA, because apparently people DID get snowed in at IKEA that year, although not on Christmas Eve.

Only once: Not totally sure here, since everything I have on AO3 is either Captain Swan or Captain Charming. When I used to do Kinky Prompts, I'm sure there were some pairings or groupings I only wrote once. But since that's not on AO3 anymore (and I don't have a copy, please don't ask for one), let's go with the divisive background Leopold/Regina pairing from With Affection.

Favorite fic from the fandom I've written in most: That'll be OUAT since everything I have on AO3 is OUAT. I have a lot of ones I like a lot, but I'd say my favorite might be Powerful Magic. I worked really hard on it, and I feel like it came together really, really beautifully.

Fic I wish more people read: Killian Jones, Concertmaster Extraordinaire. It's not perfect by any stretch, but I really like Killian's character arc and wish more people gave it a chance.

Fic I agonized over: LOL gotta be Falling Slowly. It took forever, and was very plot-heavy, and every time something changed on the show, I'd have to go back to the drawing board. I eventually gave up and wrote an author's note that was like, "Look, this is canon through this particular episode, I fucking give up."

Fic that sprang fully formed: You'll Know it's Him. I was spoiler-free after season 4 of OUAT, so I knew nothing about season 5B besides whatever people could guess from the finale of 5A. I knew that nothing I was going to write would come close to canon, but I just had this idea and had to get it down.

Work I'm proud of for any reason: A lot of them (particularly Powerful Magic; Killian Jones, Concertmaster Extraordinaire; and Falling Slowly listed above). But I think one that's not listed that comes to mind is Strange Bedfellows (which was a close second for "Fic I wish more people read"). I like the structure of the story, and while the twist is not really a twist, it was a lot of fun to put in anyway.

I’ve spent the past week getting slandered in this community with not a shred of evidence, proof, or receipts of me being a mean girl, “Wish Regina George”, a bully, an asshole, someone who spends more time answering anons than I do writing, or any of the other things I’ve seen people say about me out of absolutely fucking nowhere, seemingly because people have grievances towards Gracie that I know nothing about. I appreciate everyone who has checked in on me and asked how I’m doing. 

ETA: I have spoken to one of the people who posted statements and anons about me and we have squashed the beef. The statements made about me have been debunked and they have deleted their posts. Please leave me and my friends alone - I've gotten harassed directly and indirectly by anons and posts for two months and I'm tired. I'm not gonna prostrate myself and try to convince the internet that I'm a good person when I know I've done my best to always be kind and respectful in this community. My words will inevitably be twisted and I feel paralyzed. The damage to my reputation has already been done.

This is the only time I’ll address this, and my anons will not be turned back on because this is literally slander and a waste of everyone’s time. I’ve seen multiple vague posts about me as well and I’ve chosen to ignore it all, but it gets to a point where it feels like bullying and I’m done with it. When someone goes on tumblr live to rehash the same shallow shit talking post about me (i.e. talking shit about people they’re accusing of talking shit), that’s when I feel like my limit has been crossed, and since that same live devolved into an advertisement for the host’s own writing… This no longer reads like vigilante justice. 

Let me get one thing straight: I am here to write about dick, cock and that old man. I am extremely grateful for the friends I’ve made along the way, and I am beyond appreciative for my readers who support me and who like what I come up with. I am 27 years old, I have a fulltime job, and this is one of my hobbies. If you think I’m going to spend my time in a fandom spamming group chats and being catty, I literally don’t know what to tell you. The few uncomfortable situations I’ve had on here have been addressed and squashed very quickly, whether that’s misunderstandings, accusations or anything else. In a creative space, you are bound to butt heads with people occasionally, or have people who dislike you, and that is fine. I know I have an aloof persona on here, I don’t expect everyone to like me. 

I didn’t block anyone up until two days ago when this tumblr live host posted three anon asks in a row about me, and I decided to block the people who seemingly agreed with anons insisting I’m a mean girl, asshole etc. cause why the fuck wouldn’t I? Wouldn’t anyone? I don’t understand why on earth they’re so mad about me blocking them if they dislike me so much already. My shit is still on ao3 if they want to read it. 

I don’t know what my mutuals do in their own DM’s, or group chats they’re in that I don’t participate in, because I stay in my lane and I spend my time writing. Of course I don’t condone bad behavior but how am I supposed to know what happens in GCs and servers I’m literally not in? Or conversations in servers where I’m not active? I have not witnessed any of my mutuals talking shit in any GCs, period. That’s all I can say. Additionally, this whole big/elite writers discord people were talking about a while ago - if that exists, I wasn’t even invited lmfao how’s that for being a big writer? 

One anon said I was an asshole when they tried to have a conversation with me months back, and I assume this was my Rendezvous anon who I was snarky to cause they were snarky to me. I make it very clear that I have limited patience for anons, and when people in my comments respond back to them, they are responding to a statement that is separate from the person who sent it. 

I am not entertaining this insanity any further than this. I will continue to post my old man porn and interact with my mutuals and reblog gif sets of that same old man cause that’s what I’m on here for. If you don’t like me, you are well within your rights, I assume you have your reasons, and that is ultimately none of my business. Everyone has the right to curate their own experience on a website like this.

While I do really like Dave's character as it exists in the comic- no clue what version of Dave most of the fandom is talking about, but I don't know him- I kind of like the themes in Davesprite's character more than I do Dave's. It's another Hal situation.

Dave's character tackled a lot of things very personally relatable to me in ways I'd never seen illustrated before, but Davesprite is more interesting to think about, and seems a little more fun to write. Dave was great representation for me, as someone who grew up in a very bad home, but Davesprite just has that extra oomph with his talk of humanity and individuality. Really like that guy.

This may come across as crass, or stepping out of my own lane, but I don't think giving them either multiple sets of pronouns, neopronouns, or both actually rids them of the bigotry in their characters. Lipstick on a pig situation. It just seems like a lazy, incurious fix. Yes, trans headcanons are great, but more and more often I see people use it as a cure-all to the issues a character has, either in a Doylist or Watsonian way. Queer friendliness does not eliminate racism. If a character is a bigoted caricature of a specific group of people, then slapping on a leftist layer of paint by saying "actually they're a minority icon in this other way" doesn't actually... Get rid of the problem. It's just kind of... Tone deaf.

We see this often with Transmisogynistic Caricatures getting claimed as Gay Icons, and people just saying that because they've just claimed them as a campy gay queen, the transmisogyny has been nullified- you can't talk about it anymore, they're the real good leftist in the room, you're a killjoy, and they've defeated bigotry. Not how it works.

Kind of tired of how some act like her only character traits are Silly Ditzy Furry Girl. Jade is an incredibly, incredibly intelligent young girl, an excellent marksman, and so, so deeply lonely. We need to talk about Jade's chronic loneliness more.

Also, I think she's some kind of Psychotic. One of the flavors. It just feels right to me. It feels canon-adjacent. Or, at least, a textually valid way to read her character. I have a whole post about it somewhere. Mituna and Jade shaking hands on the Psychosis.

Taking this opportunity to defend Aranea. Some people really need to stop acting like she's worse than Vriska. We all know what Aranea did was justified. Maybe not correct, but justified. And fucking awesome to watch.

Like, look. She spent an unfathomable amount of years being shot down and ignored and belittled by people who were supposed to be her friends... Aranea had to literally pay Meenah, her own best friend, to listen to her infodump, and even then Meenah couldn't afford to give her own best friend enough respect to just listen to her talk about something she's passionate about for 5 minutes.

I need you to think to yourself, genuinely. If you spent thousands- and I mean thousands upon thousands- of years getting ignored and walked on by everyone around you, even your own friends... If you spent thousands upon thousands of years getting called boring and a doormat to your face by even your own friends... Wouldn't you go crazy, too? Wouldn't you snap? Wouldn't you want to do something drastic just to get people to look at you? Just to be seen as something other than weak and boring? Just to be seen as worth even an iota of interest, a shred of someone's time? Wouldn't you? Because I think any normal person wouldn't take thousands upon thousands of years. I don't think you would last a decade. I wouldn't either, and I'm a pretty patient person.

Y'all are just jealous you can't play billiards with planets using your mind when you're mad. That shit was so awesome.

This is not an Unpopular Opinion, or even an Opinion, I'm just pointing this out. Do you ever think about the fact that we hardly got any conversations between Rose and Jade? I do. This haunts me. This fucks me up so bad. We get plenty between John and Dave, and Dave and Jade, and Dave and Rose, and Rose and John, and Jade and John... But hardly anything between Rose and Jade!! This is so fucked up. We were robbed. I need to watch them hang out.

Okay, this is less of an Unpopular Opinion, and more of an Unpopular Fact, but... Mituna doesn't just throw slurs at people. That's one of the things people jump to when they're talking about Defanging Mituna- they always say something about how he "calls people slurs every two seconds". He literally doesn't. That is legitimately not a thing he does. If you heard that before and believed it, you were literally lied to. That is straight up demonstrably not true.

Like, if you're trying to think of something Mituna does every two seconds unprompted, it's either sex jokes or apologizing. Slurs aren't a thing he just slings around casually. He said a grand total of one slur... To Meenah... And it's a fake troll slur. And then we get it defined to us... Aaaand it's the troll equivalent to "Cracker". That's it. That's the crime he's committed- calling someone a word that is immediately after defined to us as "Someone who is at the top of and benefits from the furthering of the oppressive Fuchsia-Down power structure, and the Lowbloods that help enforce it." That's the slur he used. That's what made people start declaring that "he would totally say the N Word" with full and complete confidence. Absolutely ridiculous. He's called no one else any kind of genuine slur. He just called Meenah a Wader once, and then she and Kankri got upset about it, because they are both, by definition, Waders.

Leijon Hot Take Party Pack: If you think Nepeta shipping her friends together is fine, or even adorable, but then sneer at or get grossed out by Meulin doing the same thing, you're a hypocrite. I don't care if you say "Meulin's writing Friend Fic, though, that's weird!!" the problem with Shipping Your Friends and Writing Romantic Fanfiction Of Your Friends is at the same root.

The problem with these things isn't the presence of writing, it's the presence of, you know, shipping your friends? If you're fine with Nepeta doing it, you've gotta be fine with Meulin doing it. Be fine with both or neither. It's the same damn thing. I'm pretty sure both friend groups are fine with it, too, so it's not like this is a boundaries issue or anything. Both or neither. Pick one.

Observation: I do think it's cool how Jane and Jake are related and have similarly opposing relationships with their gender. Jake's oft presented with Feminine themes and imagery, and Jane with Masculine themes and imagery. Very cool. Wish more people made that correlation.

She's Spock's canon partner in AOS, and I get it because they're not a great couple, but she gets villianized in fic so much. They constantly make her an asshole (which totally has nothing to do with her being black /sarcasm) and abusive just for the crime of dating a man headcanoned as gay. And I mean, I think Spock is gay and her being a love interest was unnecessary but still! She's cool!

Oh my god so in the Star Trek reboot she’s Spock’s girlfriend and the fandom has no idea what to do with her??? Like she is ALWAYS either such a bitch or like the mom friend? And there is so much more to her character than that? But they always break down her character AND find a quick and easy way to break up her and Spock. I’m not even mad at that but at least treat their relationship with some weight instead of just being like ‘it never mattered’. People can love multiple people throughout the course of their lives. You know that right? Just because you loved someone before doesn’t make your new love any less special. And even headcanoning Spock as gay… you realize he doesn’t need to be attracted to Uhura for their relationship to have mattered, right? Even if he confused friendship for romantic attraction, him feeling such strong friendship and openly expressing it is so monumental for him!!! 

she's dating Spock, who people ship with Kirk, so fans have decided that it's horrible writing and "really, they're just defending her, the movies turned her into just a love interests," which is not at all true. The movies do so much more for her to the point that the fans who have only seen the movies think that the main characters are Kirk, Spock, and Uhura instead of the Kirk, Spock, McCoy of the original series. Also having a black women being shown as being desired and loved in mainstream media, particularly by one of the most popular characters of all time, is a good thing, not making her "just a love interest"

Keiko O'Brien

Certain People I Could Name insist on shipping her husband with the annoying twink doctor Julian Bashir because of the friendship they develop over the series. I maintain that O'Brien would never cheat on his wife, let alone with another man, and the response is often "they're in a polycule together!!!" which is even more out of character. Everyone please show my girl Keiko some more respect 😤

Wife of chief engineer Miles O'Brien, who is shipped with the chief medical officer, Julian Bashir. Show itself veered into misogyny regarding her and her marriage, manifesting as Miles constantly complaining about her and her encouraging him to go hang out with Julian and leave her and their daughter alone. Fandom responded to this by creating the "O'Brien polycule" including Keiko, Miles, Julian, and first officer Kira Nerys (who has another strange semi-romantic subplot with both O'Briens). Really, though, it just exists to have Julian/Miles without reckoning with Miles having to cheat to get there. I, too, was guilty of this in the past. Keiko had the potential to be a very interesting character (and started to be, early in the show) but it was never realized. She deserved better :(

keiko is a lovely lady and astrobotanist who had a whole romance with and married the more main character miles obrien but now frequently people sideline her to (semi-jokingly?) ship miles with his friend julian. she’s not the best written character and she deserved so much more from the narrative, but it still feels weird that the fan joke about her is always how much she is constantly encouraging her husband to cheat on her (which to be fair does happen a few times but not That much)

you keep antagonizing an entire group of people and when they react to your drama you pretend theres one GeNeSiS HaTeR who sends you messages. you know so well who they are and blocked them. you blocked them what, 4, 5 times already, even if you can only block a person once. but you keep insisting you know. so just say it! instead of saying you know who this person is because you analyzed their writing and went all Sherlock Holmes on them. i'm sure the GeNeSiS HaTeR is in your head and there are just random folks who are sending you messages once you start the drama, but that doesn't fit your narrative of you fighting the bad guy. if you really know who this one person is - tell everyone. i think you're going to block the imaginary enemy for the 6th time and keep saying you know everything. prove me wrong

Genesis Hater is now BIGGER MAD. And once again, you're still hiding on Anon.

There's a reason why I won't say who it is. And this might actually surprise you. I don't want a witch hunt. I don't want people actively coming down on someone else over something as inconsequential as petty fandom drama. I believe in the best in people and while I think you're being completely ridiculous pretending to be multiple people or making wild claims about a random character that are completely unsubstantiated, I don't want hoards of people actively coming down on you when they know who you are. I don't think you deserve that. I don't think anyone deserves that. I wish you could give me the same courtesy, but here we are. Perhaps one day you will surprise me.

Honestly, I prefer diplomacy. I continue to entertain this because it is 1.) Very cathartic in bolstering my love for this character and 2.) I live in the vague hope of you perhaps one day growing up and/or moving on. Why you've selected me specifically to produce this conflict at hand, I have no idea. I was happily living in my fantasy world of stupid anime men long before this shitstorm showed up. If by "antagonizing" you mean "existing" then yep. I sure was. Just remember YOU came to ME. You're the one flinging mud. You're the one who used colorful descriptions of "dick eating". And you're the one who keeps trying to pretend that you're multiple people when...you're just one person. Other Genesis haters have been way more respectful and mature about this than you could ever hope to be.

But don't worry. Despite everything, I still believe in you. And I'll continue believing in you regardless of whatever conflict you continue to brew. And that, I think, is a hopeful goal to strive for in the midst of this incredibly huge waste of both of our time. But by all means, do continue.

Okay. Dapper persona off. Let me be real with all of you.

I don't care about the kind of prompts you send here. Even if it's a horrifying and stomach-churning prompt straight out of 4chan whose only goal is to offend and see if I'll post it. I don't care. It's my job as a mod. I signed up for this. Likewise, I don't care what kind of fill you make, or how you send it, or any of these. I'm not stupid. I know no one is reading the rules. I signed up for this when I decided to create this blog. I knew what to expect.

What I do care about, however, is that you people respect each other. I want this blog to be a safe place where people feel creative, where people can exchange ideas, where people can uplift each other. Because that's what a community is supposed to be. You know, a community? The definition of "fandom"?

I am aware it's not that deep for many people. Still, I expect you guys to follow the very simple rule of "scratch my back and I'll scratch yours." Fill someone's prompt in the hope that someone picks your prompt to fill it. Fill someone's prompt with the guarantee that there is an audience for it (since people asked for it!) and therefore someone will read and enjoy it and tell you they enjoyed it. That's respect. You give back as much as you ask for. Win-win for everyone.

But when you send me stuff like "oh I wish there were more fills for xyz" when you're unwilling to even just thanks the people who do make those fills? When you send five prompts in one hour about your very specific fetish? When you get mad because you worded your prompt vaguely and the filler didn't make what you wanted?

That's not respect. That's treating people like mindless content machines. That's thinking yourself above the rules of this blog because you are superior and you don't need to give anything back. That's being an entitled little bitch.

"But I am not a good writer/artist!" Oh so you're aware this is a difficult task, and you're asking others to do it but you can't do it yourself? "But I forget to comments!" Ok, and you forget to read anytime I post a reminder to comment on fics? "I don't know what to comment!" There are multiple guides on this blog on how to comment. I have made it very clear that I will help if there is something I can do. I have given writing advice before. I have given commenting advice before. I am willing to do whatever it takes to help, but I can only do as much as you let me do.

Fill a prompt for every prompt you send. Comment on the fills you like. Comments on the fills for your own prompts. At least try, for god's sake. I would think that posting about that topic multiple times a week would make people understand that this isn't optional, but apparently I am a tad too subtle. This isn't optional. This is literally the only rule I care about when running this blog.

I know it's more of a writing flaw but i adore how she switches between being a threatening villain to the most incompetent moron ever (seriously girl you fake murder Dracula's reimcarnation's crush and you expect him to not instantly murder you? Plus depending on the source she either is legit indoctrinated in her cult's beliefs which gives her a sad facet or she has the more selfish purpose of preserving her own dark magic (and what do i say? I can make both work. I think). Plus the way it can be implied that she might have contact n even collaboration w Arikado makes it better (sorry for the ppl reading this but yes it works i swear im not insane). Go silly gal go! Play Machiavellian schemes with the literal son of the dark lord and underestimate your enemy!

Oh boi and talking abt Arikado; the common idea of a grown up n stable Alucard finding stability after "ending" the cycle is fine and all, but the implication from his AoS n DoS behaviour that he is in a terrible mental state and unable to let go of the cycle? Beautiful. Amazing. Need me more of that. He's this beautiful mini reflection of the revenge cycle, and after living through it, with the goal of murdering his own father, for so long, and having it as his sole purpose, it has devoured him n broken him. And he now wants to take control of it with his own hands, is showing both the worst behaviour of both his father AND the Belmonts (haha SotN parallels w Richter) and might end up making matters worse :) (I blame you for indoctrinating me into the neg character arc Alu, thank u) Anyways someone force this poor moron to take vacations before he loses it

Thanks :)"), Sara getting sealed into the VK (which she insisted on and convinced him despite his initial refusal) n the Belmont clan's burden (he did got them into monster hunting w the whip but there's no way he knew how bad things were gonna get) were all 100% his very well informed fault; Or makes him into an idiot sunshine boi who doesn't knows what death is (he's an undefeated warrior with a who knows how large body count) can't think or lead (he maintained the company undefeated during Mathias' illness) and a perfect innocent n easy to manipulate uke for his sexy older seme (I'm not saying they canonically fucked you can perfectly interpret their relationship as 100% platonic or having something but deciding to respect their girls or etc etc. But if they did the nasty then he had to rail Mathias at least a couple of times). Yes my anger girl. Let her commit crimes. I wanna write a post abt her but to resume i love her as a symbol of destroyed innocence (ha). A sweet gal who did helped everyone and was good n nice and disliked violence only to have her life ruined in so many ways that her inner frustration blooms into a divine wrath n bloodthirst. Like i said before I adore her relationship w Leon and how they made eachother better n then worse :). Plus, the manual describes her as strong hearted! She obviously loved Leon n was happy to see him! sacrificed her life in order to not turn into a vampire and instead stop Walter from harming more innocents! She has agency and her choice was crucial not only for Mathias convoluted plan but for the whole cycle. (Ppl stop forcing the "boring 100% sweet harmless never angry gal who always got dragged around by men as an object" archetype on her challenge. Yes i used to be like that but i got gud. If i can recover so others can)

And then she had to see how Mathias betrayed her n Leon and then tried to take him, and dealt w the mess that post-canon Leon was, both together but separated, furious and crushed on the other's behalf, until his death :). AND then she had to wait hundreds of years to avenge him only to have to kill the same bastard over and over and over again. Mix in vampire corruption and you have a caring but toxic Belmont Matriarch/Whip stuck in the cycle. So yea let her have negative emotions and commit crimes (Sorry John).

LO APPRECIATION:

Artemis. I just think she’s gotten too bashed over the years inside of the fandom, like I adore and love her except for that one time where she made Persephone switch out of her dress and into a tighter revealing dress for no reason but let’s not talk about that. But everyone in the comic seems to look down on her a lot, call her stupid and everything, no one ever gives her any proper respect and I think that that’s absolute bullshit.

There’s so many things that’s inconsistent about Artemis’ character, like first few chapters she hates men and she wants no men in her house but then she allows Hermes and Apollo to just come in and invade their privacy and stuff (talking about that one “joke” where Hermes said he would go through their stuff) and I guess I understand with Apollo because that’s her twin brother so they’re family and also they seem to be really close as well, but I just don’t understand why there was such a huge switch and why she just went back on her words and such.

Next thing is about Apollo, a lot of fans got mad at Artemis for not knowing what happened with Persephone and I just think that’s sorta wrong to go blaming her. Like I said before that was her twin brother and they were close, also we know that Apollo puts up a front with certain people and disguises himself as “a good guy” we’ve seen this already multiple times, that’s why he never gets accused or anything because so many people are just viewing one side of him, the side that he wants them to see, and not showing them his true motives. They’re twins but they can’t read each others’ minds.

Another thing I don’t like with how Artemis is treated is because of Hera’s unladylike comment. Come on bro, it’s time to get out of this mindset that there’s only one way to be a woman. A woman is not defined by the way she acts, or dresses, or speaks, or how she carries herself and I’m sick and tired of people just completely overlooking that. For a feminist comic it sure has a load of damaging ideas and perspectives about a woman and what we’re capable of. For me personally, I believe a woman should be whatever we want it to be it’s never going to be just one thing and there’s never going to be one way to be a woman. There’s millions of women in the world who have so many differences from each other and I think it’s pretty stupid to say there’s only one way to be a woman. But yeah, stop treating Artemis like she’s a meat head because she’s not as “feminine” as the other ladies are.

Lastly is I hate how the comic has made her just so oblivious like they love making Artemis completely stupid for some reason. She’s never right and when she is right she has to go through some embarrassing feat to get to that point. For the sake of a joke Artemis has to be dumb, for the sake of a joke she has to be left out, for the sake of a joke she has to have no one else on her side except for her manipulative family members. Seriously, is it that hard to make the women in LO be intelligent and caring?? Why is every single woman characterized as just dumb and defenseless that’s genuinely pisses me off.

But anyways last thing I wanna say about Artemis is that I love her because she was right about Hades all along and we both share the same opinion about that bastard, I enjoy when people call Hades out and insult him because let’s be real he’s been doing the exact same thing to employees or “people beneath him” for years and he deserves the same energy he’s been dishing out. Like always major fuck you to Hades, choke on a big one.

Look, long post here, but I'm really ticked off over this.

We all have our faves, and we all love a well written fanfic. It gives life to characters in multiple ways outside of the normal medium they are presented in. However, not everyone is going to perceive your favorite in the same way you do. They are multifaceted in order to be more real. This is normal and acceptable because not everyone perceives you in the same way. You change and grow and backslide and are different at different stages as well as moments. The you who is having a good day and well fed is not the same you who is tired and hungry and having just watched several people die (By no means wish that experience on anyone).

You won't be perceived the same nor respond the same way each time. There are so many other situations that change up how you respond and allow others to see different facets of you.

You are not the same person you were 5 years ago. There are bits and characteristics of that person there, but you are not the exact same even if you think you are. Self reflection and examination will better allow you to see this, and sometimes you may not see this truly until you are much older. The experiences you go through shape you and make you different from others, but the human connection is there for everyone. We all change, and we all identify different and relatable things to the characters we like or don't like because of our humanity and our experiences.

Writing is an art, and writers are going to showcase things in different ways based upon their own experiences. As an art, not everyone is going to write at the same level, which does not mean they should be prohibited from writing or discouraged. Being mad at someone for not writing a character exactly in the way you perceive them is a shit move. Simply take the moment to appreciate the story they are trying to write, or if you lack that ability, ignore it and move on. Being belligerent towards other writers' interpretation of a character is only going to discourage them and others from attempting to write. It's a dick move and is going to destroy and kill your Fandom faster than any lack of merch, or episodes, books, manga, or other cannon information may come about. It is gate keeping. It is nasty and elitist and ignorant. If you don't enjoy something, don't read it, write your own. Respect the other person's efforts and time, but go on, recognize that you may not see the character from their perspective, but you don't have to because other experiences have brought them to see them in that way. You don't have to enjoy everything, but you also don't have to be a dick and shit on them for their opinion and interpretation. If you insist on doing so, you are part of the problem, and one day, you can look back at an empty Fandom and can thank yourself and others like you for cutting people out. Call out toxic behaviors such as misogynistic or Anti LGBTQ+ or other such horrendous actions. That is holding someone responsible for the right reasons, but not because they portray a character in a way that is OOC. That is just ignorant.

so as we all know... lizzie is my girl, my heart and soul. we’ve been rocking together for way too long and i couldn’t imagine not writing lizzie in any platform. i talk mad shit about her and if we’re close friends, you know how much i do. simultaneously, you also know that i have the most deep love, care, understanding and respect for her. it’s genuinely strange and odd the attachments that we get to fictional characters. portions of it might be because we can disconnect from reality or the other because we project ourselves, the good and the bad, onto them. who knows, but realistically, i absolutely could not imagine diving into any other character the way i have written her. she has made up such a crucial aspect of my life and i would never trade it in for anything. 

don’t worry, this isn’t a goodbye or retirement post. i just want to say thank you for everyone who has always made writing elizabeth nothing but the best experience. none of this would genuinely ever have been possible without the writing partners and dynamics i’ve built with everyone along the way. whether it be through lizzie’s blog or the million others i’ve made, i will always owe everyone my deepest most sincere gratitude of life. regardless if we actively, hardly or no longer talk, one way or another i’ve learned so much from everyone. i genuinely couldn’t imagine writing angst with better companions... because we all know how lizzie and i feel about happy things.

@geminaie : my sweetest padawan i can also write a whole novel about you. our facetimes make me so unbelievably happy because it consumes of us talking about lizzie and josie and the bond the girls have plus just our lives. nobody understands my love for lizzie and josie like you do and it’s truly insane how you’re able to breakdown so much of lizzie’s personality and mentality in a way that i’m also able to. you reflect it in josie so well on how lizzie impacts your portrayal and i genuinely could never imagine developing lizzie with another person the way we have created these two. between plotting our verses, to developing headcanons on their family dynamics, the gemini coven, their magical abilities and everything small and far in-between, you genuinely are always leaving me in awe. your josie has always been such a masterpiece and words can truly never describe the appreciation i have for the love, passion and understanding you put into her. characterization alone, you as an individual i’m just so damn proud of you. 5 years of knowing you (at least) and watching you grow as an individual has just been so amazing. on facetime we talk about the fact i’m basically your big and i genuinely take that to heart because of the fact we know so much personal aspects of each others lives. know that i love you so so much and there’s no other person in the world i’d rather have call lizzie lizard. you make my heart happy always!

Me again. My mistake, I admit, I got send one of your post by a friend and assumed it was recent. I wasn't trying to drag up old drama nor offend you.

I am honestly just asking what the point is of ranting on about this topic? It's not like you leave much space to discuss it yourself and the hating on one another, from both clone shippers and non clone shippers, is harmful to the community in my eyes.

I'm not trying to attack you. I just wanted to make you aware that not everything has to become an argument and that as long as no real people are hurt, what's the point of being so hateful and feeling betrayed by people liking a certain ship, even one that is disgusting in your eyes? It's there, but you don't have to acknowledge it.

In my opinion, everyone is responsible for their own internet experience and you can't fault people for liking something fictional. You don't have to agree, you may find it harmful or disgusting, but spouting hate around like this is actually getting people hurt. I have had multiple of my friend cry and leave fandoms for reasons like this (extreme shipping arguments mainly) and it pains me to see people, talented people at that, loose some interest they love over things like this.

It's not just you, I send this to everyone including clone shippers who take it too far and I remind people more often that this is harmful to both the sender and the receiver. You disliking something doesn't mean that it should be taken away for everyone and I hope you realise that and make peace with it.

I hope you try to understand my point of view because simply said, I don't understand what you're so mad about? In my opinion, this 'clone shipping war' is useless and harmful to everyone Involved since it's about fiction characters.

If you honestly want to hold a serious and respectful discussion about this, I'm open for it. I'm willing to listen to your point of view as long as it doesn't become a one sided discussion. I'm not here to hate on you, I'm just here because I'm genuinely concerned and curious about why you're so mad about this.

(ps: I will agree that in some cases clone shipping goes too far, but that can happen with every fandom and every ship. Art Theft and Bullying in The Old Guard Fandom

Hey TOG fandom! Do you know that stealing art is a crime? Do you have a problem with bullying (“because that poc muslim artist deserves!11!” based on a random tumblr post) within Discord servers? You do?... then read on.

Please grab some cookies and tea (and get comfortable!) and read on. This is a SERIOUS matter that I, as an outsider, was able to see WITHOUT being influenced by anyone else. I am not friends with any of the people involved here, although after these events I have empathy towards them.

I’m telling you this so you won’t be able to say to me "you are allied with/you are influenced by"... That is not the case. I have facts and evidence, so please read! I will be talking about ART THEFT, BASHING, REPOSTING, AND DISGUSTING BULLYING BEHAVIOUR towards a person who is not even in the server. As a fellow fanartist I feel so bad because  “this artist deserves it” in their mind. 

(Now: apparently there is a part of the beautiful The Old Guard fandom that thinks: the characters and people’s headcanons are more important rather than an actual person's well-being, and with every new illustration by the artist, they are badly spoken of. Because… ugh, why not?)

I talked about facts, so here’s one:

If you joined this server (there are a couple servers with this name, please don't get mad at the wrong one - note the icon!)  The first thing you know is: karanoidandroid is a racist and a homophobe… in their opinion. People and also these mods think this because of some posts on tumblr by white people. AH.

Why? Hearsay, bimbi belli. If you go to this artist's page you won't find a single racist thing (the artist is literally a POC who is brown and a Muslim. How? - you may say- What? Ah yes, she must be under "white influence! 11 !! bad POC !!" and who says that? Ah right, a white person. Or another POC with a different experience.  wtf we have so many experiences, how can you say ‘you’re racist’ to a POC about this? Just because this artist’s preference is a different sex position, and no one is trying to force you to like it, eh!)

And from here on out... hatred. Terrible and personal hatred that has spread like wildfire. EVERYWHERE. Even people who know nothing about this fandom know that this artist is "racist and homophobic". Only.Because.Of.Hearsay.

So what did this artist do, you ask? She created a safe place on discord, away from tumblr. For people who like top!Joe. Don’t you like it? GOOD FOR YOU. That’s fantastic. We should as a fandom respect everyone's preference. This server was simply made so people could get away from tumblr and the drama and bullying. That’s it.

But did they leave this artist alone? No. The gossip had infected this fandom by now. It is now a "fact": this artist is x and y, you know. Because a couple people spread that, knowing nothing about the artist other than she was making a server they didn’t like.

Because THEY decided it. Because this artist decided not to fight and leave and you weren't satisfied with that.

Let’s BULLY a Muslim POC because we disagree with their views IN FANDOM! Because someone’s views on a CHARACTER are more important than an actual person, right? (According to sources who wished to remain anon, I know for sure the mod is white. A white mod is bullying and stealing the art of a brown Muslim woman because their views on FANDOM are different)

How? 

READ these screenshots. They were posted a couple days ago. EVERY FUCKIN’ TIME this artist posted an art… they bully her. (So yeah, it’s NOT the first time)

No source, no link, no name. It was posted by a Mod (in blue) and the point is: a rule of this group is “don’t steal art/don’t put art without source” BUT HEY- WE’RE MODS and this artist deserves it!11!!1!)   

This poc muslim artist didn’t insist on “top!joe only”. It’s just her preference, you know? I don’t care about people’s preferences. “Where is the source?’ a person asks. They don’t want to put the source and THEY’RE THE MODS, they made that the R U L E.

But you already know, again only by hearsay: “the artist is homophobic and top!joe is full of bullshit”. (A mantra - but they’re NOT IN THE SERVER to know. It’s an assumption)  What bullshit? I dunno. I’ve been on tumblr for the past few months and I read everything, and what I read is just a preference, not racism. But they went to the artist saying “you can’t”. Just because they have a different opinion. A ‘woke opinion’ against a POC Muslim artist. Well.

You don’t like her preference? Again: BRAVO. Amen, that’s okay. But it’s not “end of story kiss kiss”.

If you steal and you put a drawing without source… it’s not a joke anymore, do you know this mods? Even if you don’t like the artist or agree with all of her opinions, THEFT IS THEFT. There’s no excuse for it, especially if their excuse is saying the artist ‘deserves’ it.

 Anyway the artist deserves their art to be stolen ONLY BECAUSE OF HEARSAY everyone knows that she is..? (chorus: racist and homophobic!) And this was decided by white people and is now being used to bully a POC Muslim.

You’re bashing and bashing and bashing and bashing for MONTHS, so now you don’t know the truth, but only this…  because /this/ it’s common knowledge.

Stealing art and trying to say that's okay because they’ve decided that someone they don't know is racist doesn't change the fact they stole is disgusting. Then saying it’s just a joke? wow, the audacity. 

The point of all this is clear: Since I hate this person/I have this immeasurable hatred towards this artist from posts that other people have made about her THEN I am a mod so I can do it, I am allowed to steal her art, bash the artist and mock her in other comments and every time this person just… exists.

THESE ARE THE FACTS. I have so many screenshots. Thanks to some people I know within the discord. This is only ONE day. It has happened before. 

Why “that artist and linking her blog would break multiple server rules and make numerous people uncomfortable?” Ah, yes, c’mon you know… I know you know! (Chorus: Because the artist is racist and homophobic… even though they’ve never spoken to her, and are literally bullying a POC Muslim and refusing to source art)

Well, yeah, Without proof. Just “common knowledge and the same old “by hearsay” on tumblr. By ‘woke’ people and then it was shared by people like me or you if you don’t know the story.

And how did this story end? They stole the drawing. They put the stolen illustration in a group of TWO HUNDRED and SEVENTY PEOPLE and said  “oops, i did it again” and they refuse to link the source. It’s stealing. And it’s serious. It’s terrible because they are bashing this artist all the time. 

TO REITERATE

1.They STOLE an artist’s work and laughed about it, which is bullying and against their own rules. This has happened more than once with this artist. 

2. When they were called out, they bullied the person calling them out.

3. When they didn’t like that they were called out, THE PEOPLE (yellow and green) CALLING THEM OUT WERE KICKED OUT OF THE SERVER, despite art theft and bullying being against the server rules. Again, the rules that they made. 

Regardless of what you think of the artist, stealing art sets a dangerous precedent for future fandoms. If someone doesn’t like your opinion does that mean they can steal YOUR art/writing/creations? Because if you think it’s okay for this person’s art to be stolen because you don’t agree with them, that’s basically what you’re saying.  

They were cruel. And TOG doesn’t deserve this. I love this movie so much. I love this fandom. I love to make fanarts of Joe and Nicky. Joe is so sweet, full of love, a true warrior and Nicky isn’t an Italian dramaqueen, he isn’t naive, he is kind and a bravo sniper. Two imperfect men, but perfect for each other. A Muslim and a Christian, a white and a brown man. Together. Not stereotyped. Wow, thanks at least for that 2020.

hot take (or tea) of the day from me:

Both apple and raven want what they want and would do mostly anything to get it (mostly apple, but i’ll explain raven later).

Apple White is ambitious, maybe not always, but definitely with the things she wants. She wants people to be safe, yes, but she also wants to be safe as well. Of course, Apple wants everyone to be safe, that’s why she is destined to be a great Queen for her future kingdom. But do you know why she’s so stuck on her destiny?

If you read The Storybook of Legends by Shannon Hale, we discover that when Apple was young, she fell into a well, and was stuck there for a long time (not super long, probably a few hours, I’m writing this from memory). That scarred her, and as a result, convinced her to think that her destiny is the only thing that can keep her safe (we also know that she was groomed to be a prim and proper destiny-following-princess since she was born, so all her life she’s been convinced her destiny is the only way to live). Same with following the rules. If you follow the rules, you’re bound to stay out of trouble and safe and sound, right? And as we’ve seen, Apple will do anything to stay safe. She was instructed to pretty much manipulate Raven into following her destiny, and even tried to follow through with it (she also joined Raven on her journey to find clues about the sisters that disappeared after legacy day when refusing to follow their destinies. all throughout that journey, Apple is also trying to convince Raven her story is the one she needs to follow). She is constantly questioning Raven, trying to find a fault in her thinking (these are the only examples i can think of right now, but if you have any more, feel free to mention some). And we get to Dragon Games. Apple meets the Evil Queen, who manipulates Apple into breaking her out of the mirror (you can find a clip of it on youtube, or netflix):

Evil Queen: “Oh I’m sorry, I thought maybe you were like your mother. When her time came, your mother embraced her fairytale destiny. She did whatever it took.”

Apple: “I am not afraid. I will do whatever it takes. And I am like my mother, and my destiny is mine!”

Just noting how she reacted to what the evil queen said. she could have brushed it off, or have said, “i may be like my mother, but i don’t want you to be an option to help me achieve my destiny”. but Apple reacted so...so angrily. She just burst into aggression and threw the Apple at the mirror.

We also see that Snow White tries manipulating Apple into forcing others to follow her destiny. (“Perhaps there is some way you could nudge Raven towards evil?...remember, she’s still her mother’s daughter!”) I have a feeling Snow’s been doing this ever since Apple could comprehend words. Apple definitely seems like she would’ve been that annoying kid on the playground that would’ve been like “You need to follow your destiny or else I’m telling the teacher!”

Anyways, Apple has definitely had some hard times, (which don’t justify her actions, but could have led her to realize that she needs to change. not just for the heck of it, but to become a better person; to become a better queen. also jesus, if EAH wasn’t cancelled she would’ve had an amazing character arc i just know it—) but anyway. She’s had some traumatic moments in her past, and we’ve only seen a glimpse of how Snow White raised her, there’s definitely some stiff linings in that relationship. It seems more like a business relationship than a loving Mother-Daughter one.

Which leads me to Raven Queen. If you read the books, you’ll also know that throughout Raven’s life, she’s always questioned destiny, and instead has used the word “choice” in her vocabulary. Her mother has seemed to be absent most of the time, whether because she was in “evil meetings”, doing Queen duty, or being trapped in her mirror. I don’t think that has impacted Raven’s opinion on destiny, the only way it’s impacted her it’s probably the absence of love from a mother. Raven doesn’t like her destiny because she knows she has it in her that she couldn’t go through with evil-doing. We know that too (especially in WTW, when Apple tells her “This isn’t you, you’re about choosing your destiny, and breaking binds and whatever” and Raven goes back to normal).

Anyways, back to Raven possibly being a Slytherin.

She’s also demonstrated that she’s ambitious, I mean, she entered a talent show wanting to perform a (quote on quote from Headmaster Grimm) “non-evil” song, and stuck with it until Sparrow got to her. She’s always letting people know they have a choice (maybe sometimes a little forcefully, but it’s not as bad as Apple). She even went on a journey (in the Storybook of Legends by Shannon Hale), sneaking out of the school, breaking multiple rules, to prove that you don’t “poof” when you refuse to follow your prewritten story. She’s quick to correct people on the fact that she won’t be following her destiny; but Legacy Day is a bigger example of her ambition. She knew about the legends and rumors of your demise when refusing to follow in the footsteps of your parents, yet took that chance anyways, putting many peoples lives into harms way (granted, it never happened, but they didn’t know whether they’d poof or not). That’s hardcore though. Imagine making a choice about your life, that could have people’s lives be ruined, or worse, dispelled (haha get it? dis-spelled?), and you take the route of putting people in harm’s or deaths way. Thats incredibly selfish, but also quite heroic. (there’s so many discussions to be held about the ethics of EAH, i’m so mad the fandom isn’t bigger because we could have so many videos and essays about this wonderful story) Raven took a stand, feeling ambitious enough to say “No” to a predetermined life. Round of applause for her.

I’ve realized that i’ve probably written more about Apple (because she is one of my favorites), and I didn’t have a lot of evidence for Raven, just feelings and opinions. But anyway, this was mostly for fun and to procrastinate on schoolwork lmao.

Keep in mind this was just a fun silly thing to do, to start a friendly and respectful discussion. I don’t want any people saying how Apple is a horrible person and how she’d be say “all lives matter” and be a white supremacist. She wouldn’t. Her destiny is to be there for others, and to be the kindest and fairest in the land.

So maybe Raven would be a Gryffindor instead. Apple could easily be a Gryffindor as well, heck, I see both Raven and Apple being in any of the houses in Hogwarts (it would make sense for Raven to be a RAVENclaw hahahah—ok ill stop). They both have demonstrated key traits for each houses.

So what do you guys think? Would Raven and Apple be Slytherins? Do you have a different house you think they’d suit more?

I honestly think that if EAH and Hogwarts had a crossover, Apple would definitely convince Headmaster Grimm and the Sorting Hat to place Raven in the same house as her (because you know, she wants Raven to follow her destiny). I also think it’d be a funny bit.
