Hi~ Can you write something like this? i would totally appreciate it🥺🥺
Yutong is under Feng Jie's hypnosis, so he starts to ignore, dismiss and be blunt with ZZ, in one case the bad guys capture FJ and say something like "let's make a trade, this guy for the one next to you ( ZZ)" Yutong agrees and concentrates only on FJ until the bad guys start beating ZZ and BY manages to come out of hypnosis (because we all know that even if he's dying he wouldn't let anyone touch his kitty) and goes to save to his cat. (Later they find out or FJ tells them about the hypnosis and ZZ punches him in the face while Yutong is proud of him and sorry that he treated his kitty badly but Zhan Zhao forgives him)
Feng Jie bout to catch these hands on GOD
Zhan Yao knew that something was wrong the minute Bai Yutong walked into the S.C.I. office and made a beeline straight for his office instead of stopping by to talk to Zhan Yao like he did every morning.  And it’s not that Zhan Yao was disappointed (well, he was, just a little) but it was just…weird; they weren’t that busy with cases nor had Zhan Yao upset Bai Yutong recently so…why was he ignoring him?  He thought about getting up and going to see just what Bai Yutong’s problem was when Bai Chi came to the door of his office and knocked, making him look at the young man with a raised eyebrow.         “Yes, Bai Chi?” he asked.         “We got a new case.  Can you get Bai Sir?” Bai Chi replied.  Zhan Yao blinked before he nodded and pushed himself to his feet, heading around his desk and out of his office before he walked over to Bai Yutong’s office and opened the door, stepping inside.         “Why didn’t you knock?” Bai Yutong snapped, making Zhan Yao look at him in surprise; when had he ever knocked before entering Bai Yutong’s office?  He then shook his head as he looked at him.         “We’ve got a case.  Come on” he instructed.  Bai Yutong hummed before he pushed himself to his feet and walked over to the door, none-to-politely shouldering past Zhan Yao, who looked at him with wide eyes.         ‘What the fuck was that?!’ he exclaimed, watching Bai Yutong step into the bullpen before he shook his head and followed after him.   ~*~*~*~*~*~ During the meeting, it was very evident, to not only Zhan Yao, but to the other S.C.I. members, that something was very off about Bai Yutong.  He hardly let Zhan Yao speak or let him give his opinions like he normally did and if Zhan Yao tried to speak or interject to offer some insight, Bai Yutong would cut him off with either a glare or a very sharp “Zhan Yao”.  Which was just…bizarre.  After the meeting, Bai Yutong headed back to his office while Zhan Yao remained in the bullpen with the other S.C.I. members, all of them looking at him in confusion.         “Dr. Zhan…what’s up with Bai Sir?” Jiang Ling inquired, Zhao Fu nodding in agreement.         “Yeah, what’s up his ass today?” he added.  Zhan Yao shook his head.         “I don’t…I don’t know” he replied.  Wang Shao frowned.         “You two didn’t have an argument or something, did you?” he asked.  Zhan Yao shook his head again.         “No.  Not that I know of” he answered.  Bai Chi frowned.         “Bai Sir’s never rude to you like this…maybe he’s just having a bad day?” he offered.  Ma Han scoffed.         “Even if Bai Sir was having a bad day, he’s not like this to Dr. Zhan” she reminded, the others nodding in agreement.         “Yeah, remember that case where they fought the entire time?  This isn’t like that” Zhao Fu stated.  Everyone fell silent before Jiang Ling huffed.         “I’m gonna say it: Bai Sir’s acting like an ass” she declared.           “Astute observation” Gongsun murmured from where he had stepped out of his lab to give Zhan Yao some files.  Everyone looked at him in shock before Bai Chi frowned.         “Gongsun, do you know what’s wrong with Bai Sir?” he asked.  Gongsun huffed.         “Why are you asking me?  I’m just the medical examiner.  You should ask our resident psychologist here what’s wrong with him” he replied, motioning to Zhan Yao, who just sat quietly in his chair, mulling things over.  Wang Shao shook his head.         “But even Dr. Zhan doesn’t know what’s wrong with Bai Sir!” he exclaimed.         “I’m perfectly fine” a voice snapped, making everyone look over to see Bai Yutong standing at the entrance of his office, his arms crossed in front of him.         “Now, are you all actually going to work on the case or are you just going to sit around and twiddle your thumbs?” he demanded.  All of the S.C.I. members fell silent before they turned back to their computers as Bai Yutong pointed to the files in Zhan Yao’s hand.         “I’ll take those.  You don’t need to look them over” he stated.  Zhan Yao and Gongsun looked at him with wide eyes.         “Hey, Bai Sir, Dr. Zhan specifically—” Gongsun started when Zhan Yao quietly stood up from his chair and walked over to Bai Yutong, handing him the files.         “Here” he murmured.  Bai Yutong nodded and took the files from him before turning and heading back inside his office, shutting the door behind him.  Everyone stared at the closed door before Zhan Yao sighed and turned to look at the others.         “I’m going to head to the university…if something comes up, let me know” he instructed.  The S.C.I. members nodded and watched as Zhao Yao headed into his office to grab his briefcase before he turned and headed out of the S.C.I. office, leaving everyone in a pensive silence before they all looked over at Bai Yutong’s closed door, narrowing their eyes.  Something was wrong with him…but they just didn’t know what.   ~*~*~*~*~*~ The next day, when Zhan Yao came into work, as soon as he stepped through the sliding glass doors, his eyes widened before he quickly reached out and grabbed Wang Shao, who had just walked in behind him.         “What the hell is Feng Jie doing here?” he hissed.  Wang Shao blinked before he looked over at Feng Jie and Bai Yutong, both of whom were standing too close for his liking, and shook his head.         “I don’t know…why don’t you ask him?” he asked, looking up at Zhan Yao, who just shook his head.         “Considering how Bai Yutong acted towards me yesterday, I don’t know if he’ll even answer me if I ask” he replied.  Wang Shao hummed; he had a point there.         “Bai Sir!” he suddenly called out, making Bai Yutong and Feng Jie look over at him with raised eyebrows.         “What is Feng Jie doing here?” Zhan Yao demanded before Wang Shao could get the question out.  Bai Yutong huffed.         “He’s helping with a case.  Since he’s, you know, an actual cop and not an academic” he replied.  Zhan Yao’s eyes widened, as did everyone else’s, before Ma Han looked at him incredulously.         “Bai Sir!” she exclaimed.  Bai Yutong looked at her and frowned.         “What?” he replied, just as Gongsun grabbed him by the collar of his suit jacket, giving him a firm shake.         “Apologize” he growled.  Bai Yutong looked at him in confusion as Zhan Yao waved his hand.         “It’s fine.  It’s not like I haven’t heard that before” he murmured before he sighed.         “I think I’ll sit this meeting out; if Feng Jie’s here, then you won’t need me” he stated as he released Wang Shao’s arm and headed for his office, quietly shutting the door behind him.  As soon as he was in his office, Gongsun released the back of Bai Yutong’s suit jacket, only to slap him upside the head, making Bai Yutong look at him with wide eyes.         “Gongsun, what the hell—” he started.         “Don’t talk to me.  Don’t…don’t fucking talk to me” Gongsun growled before he turned on his heels and walked over to his office, slamming his door behind him as soon as he stepped inside.  Bai Yutong and the others flinched at the sound before Bai Yutong huffed.         “What’s his problem?” he grumbled.           “More like what’s your problem” Bai Chi muttered under his breath, making Bai Yutong look over at him and raise an eyebrow.         “What was that, Bai Chi?” he demanded.  Bai Chi’s eyes widened and he looked over at him, shaking his head.         “Nothing” he replied.  Bai Yutong narrowed his eyes before he huffed and clapped his hands.         “Alright, now about this case” he started.
~*~*~*~*~*~ A little while later, as Zhan Yao was sitting at his desk, working on some reports for another case, there was a knock at his door, making him look up from his computer.         “Come in” he called out.  The door then opened, and Ma Han poked her head in.         “Dr. Zhan” she replied.  Zhan Yao raised an eyebrow.         “What is it?” he asked.  Ma Han motioned with her head to the door.         “We’re heading out” she explained.  Zhan Yao nodded.         “Okay.  Be safe” he instructed.  Ma Han frowned.         “Bai Sir wants you to come along” she declared, making Zhan Yao frown.         “What?  He does?  Why?” he demanded.  Ma Han shook her head.         “Don’t know.  But he said to make sure you come along” she explained.  Zhan Yao frowned before he sighed.         “Alright, I’ll be right out” he replied.  Ma Han nodded and stepped away from the door as Zhao Yao shook his head; first Bai Yutong acts like he doesn’t fucking exist and now he wants him to come along on the case…         ‘What the hell is wrong with him?’ he wondered before he sighed heavily and stood to his feet, walking out of his office and over to Bai Yutong and Feng Jie.  Bai Yutong glanced at him before he looked at Feng Jie and the others.         “Alright, let’s go” he declared.  He then turned and headed out of the office, Feng Jie and Zhan Yao flanking him while the other S.C.I. members followed behind.         “Where exactly are we headed?” Zhan Yao asked, glancing over at Feng Jie and Bai Yutong.           “We’re heading to meet an informant of Feng Jie’s” Bai Yutong answered.  Zhan Yao hummed and didn’t ask or say anything else as they continued out of the police department. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When they arrived at the warehouse where the informant said they would meet, Zhan Yao immediately frowned.         “This seems like a trap” he murmured.  Bai Yutong huffed.         “What, is that your “psychologist intuition”?” he asked, glancing over at him.  Zhan Yao shot him a glare.         “Does this not seem like a trap to you?” he demanded.  Feng Jie shook his head.         “I’ve met informants in weird and sketchy warehouses before, Dr. Zhan.  I’m sure this is the same thing” he assured.  Zhan Yao frowned but followed him and Bai Yutong into the warehouse, the others following behind.  As they looked around, they noticed that it was eerily empty and incredibly dark, making it almost impossible to see anything inside save for the single overhead light that was shining down on them as the windows had been all blacked out.           “Bai Sir, are you sure this is where we’re supposed to meet the informant?” Bai Chi asked, looking over at Bai Yutong.  Bai Yutong said nothing as he continued to look around before he frowned.         “You know, maybe…maybe this is a trap” he murmured, just as the warehouse doors suddenly slammed shut, making everyone whirl around in shock before the world began to spin and everything suddenly went black. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When Bai Yutong woke up a little while later, he found himself on his knees with his hands bound by ropes in front of him.         ‘What the hell?’ he thought to himself before he looked over to find the other members of S.C.I. also bound, but they were all tied together in one bundle, ropes wrapped around their torsos and wrists.         “Where’s Feng Jie?” he murmured, just as a low, dark chuckle echoed throughout the warehouse, making everyone turn to see a man dressed in all black step out of the shadows, holding Feng Jie and Zhan Yao at gun point.           “Dr. Zhan!” Bai Chi exclaimed, causing Zhan Yao to look at him with wide eyes and shake his head as the man dressed in all black looked at Bai Yutong.         “I have a proposition for you, Bai Sir” he stated, making Bai Yutong raise an eyebrow.         “What?” he snapped.  The man chuckled and motioned to Feng Jie and Zhan Yao.         “Only one can go free so…pick one” he stated.  Feng Jie and Zhan Yao both looked at Bai Yutong with wide eyes but Bai Yutong didn’t even spare Zhan Yao a second glance as he looked directly at Feng Jie.         “I pick him” he declared, making all of S.C.I. gasp.         “Bai Sir!  How could you?!” Zhao Fu shouted as the man shoved Feng Jie towards Bai Yutong before he wacked Zhan Yao on the back of the head with the gun, sending him to the ground with a cry.           “DR. ZHAN!” the S.C.I. members screamed.  Bai Yutong, however, didn’t even make a peep as he was too focused on Feng Jie, who had run over to him and began to undo the ropes around his wrist.         “Are you okay?” he asked, looking him in the eyes.  Bai Yutong nodded.         “I’m fine” he assured.  Feng Jie nodded as he undid the ropes before helping him to his feet, giving his wrist a tug.         “Come on, let’s go free the others” he suggested.  Bai Yutong nodded and they both ran over to the other S.C.I. members, quickly helping them out of their ropes and to their feet.  Once they were free, Feng Jie looked over at Bai Yutong and gave his wrist a tug.         “Come on, let’s go back” he insisted.  Bai Yutong nodded again as they both began to head towards the entrance of the warehouse, making the S.C.I. members look at them in shock.         “BAI SIR!” they shouted, making Bai Yutong stop and look over at them.         “What?” he snapped.           “What about Dr. Zhan?!” Wang Shao exclaimed.  Bai Yutong frowned before he turned to see Zhan Yao curled up on the floor of the warehouse, the man who had taken them hostage relentlessly kicking him in the stomach and face, which Zhan Yao was doing his best to cover with his arms.  As he watched Zhan Yao get the absolute shit kicked out of him, something stirred within him and he frowned, shaking his head before he pressed the heels of his palms into his eyes.         “Bai Sir?  Are you okay?” Ma Han asked, concern on her and the other S.C.I. members faces.  Feng Jie, however, just grabbed Bai Yutong by his arm, giving it a tug.         “Come on, Yutong” he ordered, only to have Bai Yutong yank his arm away and lower his palms from his eyes as he looked at Zhan Yao with wide eyes.         “Cat” he breathed before he took off running towards the kidnapper and Zhan Yao.         “Bai Yutong!” Feng Jie shouted but Bai Yutong ignored him as he ran over to the kidnapper and grabbed him by the arm, making him look over at him in surprise as he socked him in the face, sending him to the ground.         “Wang Shao!  Cuff him!” Bai Yutong barked.  Wang Shao nodded.         “Yes sir!” he replied, quickly running over to them as Bai Yutong knelt down beside Zhan Yao and reached out, gently touching his shoulder.         “Cat” he murmured, causing Zhan Yao to pull his arms away from his face and look up at him with a slight frown.         “Yutong?” he whispered.  Bai Yutong smiled slightly before he gently grasped his arm.         “Come on, kitten.  Up you go” he murmured, carefully helping Zhan Yao to his feet, making sure to hold him tightly so that he didn’t buckle or collapse.         “Are you okay?” he asked.  Zhan Yao winced and let out a soft twinge before he huffed.         “I will be in a moment” he replied.  Bai Yutong raised an eyebrow in confusion as Zhan Yao carefully shrugged off his arm and made his way over to Feng Jie and the others, the S.C.I. members looking at him in confusion as well as he punched Feng Jie in the face, watching as he crumpled to the ground like a limp ragdoll.         “Cat!” Bai Yutong exclaimed, quickly running over to him before looking at him in confusion.         “What did you…why…” he started.         “He hypnotized you” Zhan Yao growled, shaking out his hand.  Bai Yutong frowned.         “What?” he asked.  Zhan Yao huffed and looked over at him.         “When did you last hang out with Feng Jie?” he demanded.  Bai Yutong frowned again, thinking, before he looked at him.         “A few days or so ago…we went out for beers.  Why?” he asked.  Zhan Yao looked him in the eyes.         “Did he say anything to you?  Make you look at anything?” he demanded.  Bai Yutong hummed before his eyes widened.         “He had me watch this weird video…after that, he never said anything” he replied.  Zhan Yao hummed as Bai Chi and the others looked at him.         “So, you’re saying that Bai Sir was hypnotized?” he asked.  Zhan Yao glanced over at them and nodded.         “Mm” he replied.  Zhao Fu huffed.         “That would explain why Bai Sir was acting like such an ass to you” he murmured, making Bai Yutong’s eyes widen.         “I what?” he demanded.  Ma Han huffed.         “You were acting like a real ass to Dr. Zhan for the past couple of days, Bai Sir.  You were really rude to him, never let him speak in any of the meetings…you even sneered at him that he wasn’t a “real cop” and just an academic” she explained.  Bai Yutong’s eyes widened in shock and he looked over at Zhan Yao, about to say something when he noticed that Zhan Yao’s eyes were fluttering.         “Zhan Yao?” he called out, making the others look over at the man, just as he suddenly crumpled like a falling leaf, causing everyone to cry out in surprise.         “ZHAN YAO!” Bai Yutong exclaimed, quickly wrapping his arms around him before he hit the floor, pulling him close.           “Zhan Yao.  Zhan Yao!” he exclaimed, gently patting Zhan Yao’s cheek but the psychologist was out cold, causing him to hiss before he looked up at the S.C.I. members.         “I’m going to take him to the hospital to check to make sure he doesn’t have any internal bleeding” he stated before he looked over at Feng Jie and growled.         “You take care of him” he ordered, motioning to Feng Jie’s unconscious body.  The others looked over at Feng Jie’s unconscious body as well before they nodded.         “Yes sir!” they declared.  Bai Yutong smirked before he carefully scooped Zhan Yao into his arms and carried him out of the warehouse, over to his car.  He then carefully placed him into the passenger seat of the car before he walked over to the driver’s side and got in, quickly turning on the engine before he sped away, heading for the hospital. ~*~*~*~*~*~ When Zhao Yao woke up hours later, his entire body felt as if it had been constantly run over by semi-trucks and just…everything hurt.  As he tried to sit up, he let out a gasp of pain and clutched at his ribs, his face contorting in pain, just as a gentle hand appeared on his shoulder.         “Shh, don’t move Kitten.  Don’t move” a voice soothed, causing him to turn and look over with wide eyes to see Bai Yutong sitting beside him.         “B-Bai Yutong?” he whispered.  Bai Yutong smiled softly.         “Hey Kitten” he greeted.  Zhan Yao shook his head.         “What…where am I?” he croaked.  Bai Yutong sighed as he reached out and began to pet his hair, his touch ridiculously gentle.           “The hospital” he replied.  Zhan Yao hummed before he let out a soft sigh.         “I’m glad you’re back to normal” he murmured.  Bai Yutong frowned.         “Was I really that bad?” he asked.  Zhan Yao looked over at him and nodded, making Bai Yutong groan and remove his hand from his hair as he ran it through his own.         “God, Cat, I…I don’t…I don’t even know what to say.  I don’t even remember doing or saying half the things I must have said to you” he murmured.  Zhan Yao chuckled softly.         “I wouldn’t expect you to…you’ve seen all the people we deal with whenever they’re hypnotized…it’s like they’re a completely different person” he reminded.  Bai Yutong huffed.         “That’s true” he agreed before he looked at him.         “I’m sorry, Zhan Yao.  For…whatever I said and whatever I did.  I’m sorry” he apologized.  Zhan Yao sighed.         “It…did hurt.  To have you dismiss me.  To have you treat as if I was beneath you…like I didn’t even exist” he murmured.  Bai Yutong shook his head.         “And I won’t do it again.  I promise.  I won’t…I won’t hurt you again” he promised.  Zhan Yao looked over at him and huffed.         “I know you didn’t do it on purpose…you were hypnotized” he stated.  Bai Yutong growled.         “Fucking Feng Jie…I’m gonna kill him” he growled.  Zhan Yao chuckled and reached out, gently patting his hand.         “Easy tiger” he soothed, making Bai Yutong look at him with wide eyes.         “But he…he made me say those things to you!  He made me mock you!  Zhan Yao, you know I would never intentionally mock you.  Ever.  Yes, I tease you, but I wouldn’t…I wouldn’t hurt you” he whispered.  Zhan Yao nodded.         “I know.  Bai Yutong, I know” he soothed.  Bai Yutong then let out a shuddering breath before he leaned forward and rested his forehead against his.         “I’m sorry, Cat.  I’m so sorry” he whispered.  Zhan Yao smiled weakly and reached out, gently pinching his ear.         “Stupid mouse.  Stop apologizing” he chided.  Bai Yutong winced at the pinch before he pulled away and looked at Zhan Yao, who was smiling at him softly, a fond look in his eyes.         “Forgive me” he whispered.  Zhan Yao huffed and reached out, gently pinching his nose this time.         “Stupid mouse.  I already have” he replied.  Bai Yutong winced again before he smiled and leaned forward, pressing a kiss to his forehead.         “Try and get some rest” he instructed.  Zhan Yao nodded as he let out a sigh and relaxed back into his pillow, shutting his eyes.  Bai Yutong smiled softly at him before he reached out and began running his fingers through his hair again, Zhan Yao letting out a hum of content.         “Yutong?” he murmured, causing Bai Yutong to look at him and raise an eyebrow.         “Yes Kitten?” he replied.         “Thank you.  For…saving me and protecting me” Zhan Yao whispered.  Bai Yutong blinked in surprise before he smiled and nodded slightly.         “Always” he replied.  Zhan Yao flashed him a small smile before he took a deep breath and exhaled, allowing the morphine in his IV to pull him under as he drifted off to sleep.  Bai Yutong watched him sleep before he took a deep breath and continued to run his fingers through Zhan Yao’s hair; tomorrow, he would deal with Feng Jie.  But for now, he would stay by Zhan Yao’s side.  For he never should have left it.

Danmei and Baihe C Novels and Manhua Officially Licensed in English
Things are getting licensed fast enough that keeping a list like this up-to-date is basically impossible, but I saw someone asking in the tags so I figured I'd try. All titles are danmei unless otherwise noted (very little baihe is licensed so far). I've included Chinese titles and linked novelupdates for each title when I was able to find them, but sometimes publishers change the original titles so much that I can't track them down, apologies.
Basically: this is everything I know of as of April 12, 2024. There might be more. I tried.
For the latest danmei news, Danmeinews.com is a great resources.
Note that some of this information was sourced from this Carrd, last updated in March 2023.

Aloha Comics:
A tiny, Hawaii-based press focusing on manhua. Titles appear to primarily be available through Diamond Comics. There are also pre-orders on Yiggybean. All of these are pre-orders, though the earliest are coming out by the end of April 2024 (about two weeks after when I'm posting this).
All these titles are manhua!

Chaleuria:
As far as I can tell, Chaleuria has not updated their webpage since April 2023, so the current status of in-progress titles is unknown. All titles are digital and/or e-book, and I'm not sure how to purchase them as I haven't tried.

Honorable Mentions:
There are a handful of titles I know of that are official translations of C Novels, where the C Novels aren't danmei or baihe but are often treated as adjacent within fandom (as in: I've seen people shipping characters from them, lol). I've included two above under the entry for titles from Aloha Comics (Link Click and Nirvana in Fire) and here are a couple others I currently know of:
The Grave Robbers' Chronicles (Daomu Biji) by Nanpai Sanshu (six volumes are available in English from Things Asian Press
The Legend of the Condor Heroes (She Diao Yingxiong Chuan) by Jin Yong from St. Martin's Press
Romance of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguo Yanyi), attributed to Luo Guanzhong, available in multiple translations
The Seven Heroes and Five Gallants (Zonglie Xiayi Chuan), attributed to Shi Yukun, there are two translations to English listed at the linked Wikipedia page
Note that to the best of my knowledge both of these are considered very substandard translations. I've personally read the official DMBJ translations and... yeah... and I've heard the LOCH translation is also mediocre.
I will add to the "Honorable Mentions" list if I find any other more mainstream titles with official translations.
Please don't come at me for including a couple classics. The characters shippable, what can I do? I've written fic for Romance of the Three Kingdoms...
-
A handful of other licenses are mentioned on the Carrd I linked at the beginning of this post; I have no idea the status of those titles and wasn't able to find information on them while putting together this post other than what was listed on that Carrd, so I've omitted them.
As a final note, I've personally purchased from every printer on this list EXCEPT Monogatari Novels (I'm holding off because of the controversy and will see how things play out) and Chaleuria (which I vaguely knew existed but nothing beyond that).
Seven Seas translation varies but the editing is general strong and the editions are sturdy and nice. Extras that have come with final volumes are lovely. I am buying literally everything they publish except for You've Got Mail, due to information about the author that was shared with me that the author is a transphobe. Note that Kinnporsche by Daemi is not danmei as it's Thai (and I've heard unsavory things about the author - I don't have a link for that as the information was shared with me on Discord, and I encourage you to do your own research rather than taking my word for it). No judgement if you make a different choice than me, to be clear, I'm just sharing the information I have and why I personally am not buying the books). Note that Seven Seas isn't without controversy, especially for treating their contractors poorly resulting in them unionizing. Some people have also been unhappy with the fidelity of their translations compared to the original Chinese (I've been satisfied personally but ymmv).
Peach Flower House has inconsistent inconsistent editing quality, but the books are very readable, and I'm excited that they're working with translators such as E. Danglars. I haven't bought any of their special editions so can't speak to their extras, but I've bought all their print translations and will continue to do so going forward.
I just got my first title from Via Lactea last week and finished reading it on Sunday, and the translation read very well and there were minimal errors. It also came with a bundle of cute extras, which I wasn't expecting and pleased, and writing this post has caused me to cave and spend $150 to buy the rest of their books. Thank you, tax refund. (Should I spend this money? No. Did I anyway? ...)
No Rosmei titles have actually shipped yet, so I can't speak to their quality, though the previews they've shared on social media (as outlined here, for example) read decently and I'm optimistic. The cover art is also lovely, and they've been communicative and responsive, for example they've already issued a statement related to a recent controversy over perceived poor marketing for At the World's Mercy.
Tl:dr, the above is absolutely everything I personally know about mlm and wlw Chinese novels and manhua that have been licensed for English publication. I hope it helps someone.
Now go forth, and buy some books!

Between the Black and Gray 29
First / Previous / Next
Fen and Zhe went back up to the command deck to watch the approach. Northern placed the view out of some forward cameras on the screen and what struck Fen the first time she saw it was just how ramshackle the station was. It appeared to be made out of more than a dozen old starship hulls.
"Is that.. made out of junk starships?"
"It appears that way Fen, but I'm not sure if they're junk or not. I can see a lot of reactors when I scan for emissions. It could be that they're just all connected together and can break apart when threatened." Northern sounded fascinated. "It's a good idea, really. If you're worried about some administrative forces kicking you out, you just break up your station and link away to somewhere else. Fen, Zhe? This is going to be a while. I was just told we have to wait for a place for us to park. Why don't you two go get some rest. I'll wake you if anything comes up."
Back in her room, Fen lays on the bed. It's large and cold and smells unfamiliar. The sheets are wrong, the light in the room is wrong, the mattress is wrong, the whole place feels wrong. She had been doing well enough until she talked to Zhe about Ma-ren and she feels alone in the bed all over again. Tossing and turning, Fen struggles to sleep. Finally sleep comes.
Fen dreams.
She's sitting on a large, seat, a throne really at the top of what could only be described as an... arena. Every single seat is filled with people who are there to see her. She can feel their excitement radiate off. They aren't coerced, they aren't forced, they are all there willingly.
To see her.
Or are they?
She holds out her hand for silence, only it's not her hand. The skin tone is wrong, lighter. She spreads her arms wide to welcome the crowd, but the length feels wrong. Glancing down quickly, she sees that she's shorter than she expected, even with the high heels. High heels? Fen hates wearing heels; they're so wobbly. Her body isn't quite right either, she feels top heavy. The crowd is so far away, that they haven't noticed anything yet, but the people next to her have. One of them, a women, about her size with a kind face looks over, her brow furrowed in concern. Fen feels an overwhelming desire to comfort her, let her know everything is all right, even though it clearly isn't. "I'm fine." she whispers out of the corner of her mouth. "Just jitters or something."
The other women nods very slightly and turns back to the crowd, not convinced, but unwilling to disturb the ceremony.
"People of the Reach! I come before you to tell you of news. Our battles go well, and we have captured the inner planets! Venus, Luna and the LEO principalities have all agreed to a peace plan." Cheers and shouts of praise. She basks in their love, buoyed by their positivity. "I myself will be departing for the attack on Earth. I will personally lead the charge. Soon, I shall return to you with the exciting news of our victory!" More cheering. "Until then, I ask for your patience and understanding, and I ask for more volunteers. We have three more Super Dreadnoughts that have been completed, and they need crews. Please, come to the recruitment office and sign up. Everyone who crews my ships will be eligible for relocation to any planet, station, starbase, and orbital of their choosing after our victory."
She stands during the cheering and applause at this last announcement, and concentrates. Her wings, made of gossamer, focused, golden light spread meters wide. Her crown, made of the same light flares in the arena, visible to everyone. Through the cheering and chanting of her name, she turns, leaves the dias and her wings and crown fade into an afterimage on everyone's eyes.
Behind the dias, a hidden door opens, and she ducks through, with the two people - including the woman from before - on either side.
"Now that we're out of the crowd, what was that? You looked like you were going to throw up." She sounds worried.
"Yeah, I saw you wobble. You looked down at your shoes and blanched." The other one, a middle aged man chimes in. He is tall and handsome, with dark brown skin and a coal black beard, flecked with gray.
"I'm fine, I'm... fine." She sounds unsure even as she says it. "I just had a strange feeling of being not myself. It's passed now. She turned towards the woman. Do you have the report of the developments on Luna?"
"Yes, Empress. Luna is pacified. Your military has cleared you for a visit to the people as soon as you enter the system. They recommend that you show up, give a speech, do a quick meet-and-greet with the citizens, and then continue on to Earth. Myself, Omar and a small guard will accompany you."
"Thank you Ava. I need a coffee, and then we can depart."
Fen awoke with a start, dripping with sweat. She was laying in bed, all of her sheets and blankets a tangle. There was a soft chime that was repeating in the room. "Yes?"
"We're going to dock in a couple hours Fen. I figured you would want to shower and change."
"Thanks Northern. How long has it been?"
"About nine hours. I let you sleep a full cycle; you seemed like you needed it."
Fen sits up. "Okay Northern. I'll be up in a few."
Fen gets up and pads to the bathroom. Being the captain, she does have a larger suite than average, and it has its own bathroom. As the door behind her shuts, she does not notice the sheets and blankets are covered in a very slight layer of dust, arranged like wings, centering on where she slept.
****
The docking goes without a hitch. They are brought inside the cargo module of a massive starship on the outer edge of the 'station' and are directed to a pad near the door. They land, and as the ship powers down, Northern walks into the command deck, shaking her hair with her hands and making a face. "My mouth tastes like pennies. I hate this." She puts her hands on her hips and faces Fen. "You're going to find us enough crew - or another AI - to do this, right?"
"Yes Northern. We'll find a crew. I can't thank you enough for this, I realize that its... distasteful for you."
Northern smirks. "I see what you did there. I'll have you know that puns always work on me." She nods at Zhe. "Come on. Shall we go meet your family?"
Zhe nods and stands, but her ears are flat, and she's trying to shrink down into her clothes. "O-okay Northern, Fen. Let's go."
"Hold up a moment." Fen turns to Zhe. "Are you going to be all right with this?"
Zhe stands just a little straighter. "Yes, I'll be all right Fen. You're my captain now. It's just that my family was... disappointed when I got the job with the Discoverers and went to Minaren."
"They're disappointed you went straight?" Northern's incredulity is plain on her face.
Zhe's tail swishes and she nods. "You'll see when you meet them."
The dock's air is cold and thin, but breathable. The three of them exit the ship and head towards the airlock at the other end. They walk past scores of K'laxi and other peoples tending the ships that are docked. There are easily more than a dozen in this dock alone. Fen recognizes K'laxi, Gren, and even some Sefigan designs. They step into the airlock and it closes behind them. "So, you three are the ones ballsy enough to come here in a Imperial Frigate and sing the bawdiest K'laxi drinking song known in order to get in?" The voice is low and gruff. "We've scanned your ship, it's empty, so we know you're not hiding anyone, and you don't walk like spies, though you have the air of a Discoverer about you, K'laxi." The voice pauses a moment. "Still, we'll let you in. Stay nice and don't cause trouble."
The other airlock door opens, and the air is hot and wet. The K'laxi homeworld is smaller and colder than Earth, so Fen expected the atmosphere settings to be similar here but if there was such a thing as an opposite to K'laxi weather, this was it. The lights were dark and yellow and the gravity was light. Fen kept feeling like she was about to trip. A short K'laxi, grey around the muzzle, with a human sized battle rifle on his back waves and bounds - literally bounds - over. "Welcome! Welcome to The Heap."
Northern grins. "The Heap because it's a heap of starships?"
He nods quickly, the earrings on his large ears jangling slowly in the low gravity. "Exactly so. What are you here for? Trade? Business? Or just to lie low from the Imps since you clearly stole their frigate?"
Fen crosses her arms and harrumphs. "I'll have you know I own that frigate free and clear. You can scan it anywhere and it'll show up under my name."
He winks - a decidedly human gesture. "Sure it does, Friend. I know hackers too. So? What's up?"
Zhe sighs. "Hi there Uncle Rev. Is Hemmi here?"
Rev leans around Northern and gasps. "Little Zhe! You came back! You finally realized that the government yolk was strangling your ability to pull for yourself!" He grabbed her and hugged her mightily and spun her around. "Hemmi isn't here now, but he's in-system. I'll get a beacon out to him right away. He'll want to know the news. Why didn't you tell us you were aboard? He would have stayed for the welcome."
"I didn't want to be a burden..." Zhe begins.
"Nonsense! I will not hear of it." Rev looks over at Northern and Fen. "Shacking up with two humans? My my! You're doing all right for yourself. I knew you couldn't keep your true self down."
"Uncle Rev!" Zhe's fur ripples as she blushes. "Northern and Fen are friends only. Fen is my captain."
"Well then I need to extend our thanks," Rev bends low and Fen sees that his tail is half gone. "Have you had a chance to witness Zhe in combat yet? She is unparalleled with a Gren soar-kinfe." He puts his arm around Northern and Fen and gives them a small squeeze and Northern glares. "Did you know she once took out three Sefigan warriors who thought they could bounce out of here without paying? Three! She was barely sixteen at the time. Her parents were so proud. They let her keep the entire bounty. I think that's how she paid her passage to Minaren."
Northern turns her head slowly to Zhe as her fur won't stop rippling. "A soar-knife? They're hard to use even in light gravity. in Human standard they take years of practice to wield safely."
"Well when you're a kid on a pirate station you get bored and pick stuff up." Zhe mumbles.
"So modest!" Rev squeezes their hips again and Northern smacks his arm off. "Come on! Let's go eat while we wait for Hemmi to come back.

Just wanted to say I really really really love what you're doing here. When I was just browsing Tumblr back then when I didn't have an account, I'd always gravitate to your posts. Now that I have one, I enjoy seeing your posts. Now I have one question: how can I passively get better at Chinese? I don't have an intention to learn Chinese any time soon however I still want to get better at understanding it, even if it is just basic vocab. Any tips?
If you're a heritage speaker, I would seriously say to just go on Chinese social media/watch dramas/immerse yourself. I'm not a langblr/studyblr and I don't really actively study Chinese but since I had foundational/instinctive understanding of the language, I personally improved really quickly after I started engaging with more content. My listening ability is still far greater than my reading ability but honestly my Chinese literacy used to be practically nonexistent and now I can read ~HSK 5 (idk exactly since again, I don't actively study).
If you don't know any Chinese at all, I don't really know what to say because I feel like it's unlikely you'll magically be able to recognise words beyond the most common forms of address, pronouns, exclamations, modal particles, etc, unless you're a language learning genius. For example, what I mentioned is essentially how much Korean I can understand from years of watching kdramas/variety and just reading subtitles.
Chinese grammar/sentence structure is not the same as in English so if you only know English, you'll have an even harder time at recognising patterns and passively picking up anything I imagine.
Another thing to take into account is that there are four tones in Mandarin Chinese which will give homophones different meanings.
For example, even without reading the characters, listen to the different tones in this post below. Although the focus here is specifically on characters that also have different definitions/tonal readings, if you listen carefully, you can hear that they are read with different tones, which gives them a different meaning immediately and does not sound all that confusing to the trained ear. This is different from, for example, "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo" which honestly still doesn't make that much sense even if you read it with inflection (imo).
If you don't study or know a bit of Chinese, you might not be able to distinguish tones which might lead you to think you recognise a sound when in fact you've misidentified it.
That said, to try and actually answer your question, I guess I could just reiterate that the best way to get better at passively understanding Chinese is to just watch more subtitled content? That way, you might be able to pick up on patterns.
Of course, the pitfalls of this would be that some subtitled content (even of dramas, such as—notoriously—ones streaming on iQiyi) is not good/leaves out a lot. Also, you'll probably not be able to understand or recognise any regional accents.
Some examples of patterns to look out for:
A sentence that ends in the sound "ne" (呢) or a neutral "ma" (吗)is most likely (but not always!) a question.
A sentence that ends in the neutral sound "ba" (吧)is a suggestion or may indicate a sense of obviousness.
The sound "ta" (他/她/它/TA) is usually referring to someone else "he/she/it/they".
"men" (们;sounds like "min") added after the sound "wo" (我; I), "ni" (你; you), "ta" (他/她/它/TA) makes it plural ("we", "you all", "them"). This is also true for any other person-noun. There is no English equivalent for this character so it is hard to translate in some instances. For example, if someone adds "们" to a noun for comedic effect, like in the phrase "小baby们", this joke can't really be translated. But it sounds funny in Chinese.
"na ge" and "nei ge" (sounds like "nay guh") (那个)means "that".
"zhe ge" and "zhei ge" (sounds like "jay guh")(这个) means “this”. Also the same without the "ge" (个)sound attached.
I also don't always translate forms of address (i.e, honorifics) on my videos, so the most common to remember are:
"xiongdi" (兄弟), pronounced "shyohng-dee", means anything from "brothers", "brother", "bro", or "dude".
"Ge"/"gege" (哥哥) means "older brother" but is also what you would call a man, especially a young man, who's older than you. If the age gap is wider, then you would call them "shushu" (叔叔;uncle) or “yeye"(爷 ; grandpa). The main difference between "gege" and "ge" is that "gege" is a little bit cutesier; kids usually say it, or you would say it to your blood older brother, or you might say it to be flirtatious. There are a lot of nuances to this that I won't get into here or for the following terms.
"jiejie"/“jie" (姐姐) means "older sister" but is also what you would call a woman, especially a young woman, who's older than you. If the age gap is wider, then you would call them "ayi" (阿姨; auntie) . If it's a visibly old woman, then you can call them "nainai" (奶奶;grandma), but it's usually more polite to call a woman "ayi" or better yet "jie"/"jiejie".
"didi"(弟弟) = little brother
"meimei" (妹妹) = little sister
"da-ge" (大哥) = literally "big older brother" but it means more like "boss", as in, of a gang or social circle. You might also see "da-ge" being used ironically among friends.
"shuai-ge" (帅哥) = "handsome guy", "handsome"; a polite form of address for (esp. young) men. "Xiao-ge" (小哥; "little big brother") is also a polite form of address for young men, but it's more of a regional usage (such as in Sichuan).
"xiao-jie" (小姐) and "mei-nv"/“mei-nü” (美女)= lit. "little big sister", "pretty lady"; a polite form of address for women that's pretty much like "miss". "Xiao-jie" also means "prostitute" sometimes but in the context of the videos I translate it's always just like "little miss" or whatever. "Xiao-mei"/"mei-zi" (小妹; "little little sister"; 妹子; "little sister"/"girl") are also forms of address for young women but, again, regional (such as in Sichuan lol).
"lao-gong" (老公) = husband
"lao-po"/"xi-fu ( r )" (pr. "she-fu") (老婆/媳妇(儿)) = wife
"lao-ban" (老板) = shop keeper / manager / boss
"xiansheng" (pr. "shyan sheng") (先生) = mister
I think that's pretty much all the common ones that show up.
Idk if this was helpful lol but I guess I should at least write out some of the honorifics since I tend not to explain what they mean in the translated videos anymore.
Truly, though, I don't think the average listener is likely to have any way of passively picking up that much of a new language without at some point doing some research/studying.

(I watched this while on my exercise bike, so that’s why there’s no drama rant for this drama (but I would have been absolutely freaking out if there was one)).
The first thing I want to address is the age gap between the characters, something I was very wary about when first starting out the drama - I think using a younger actress in the first few episodes while still using the same male lead made it a lot worse than it actually was too - but it still took a little convincing to root for this couple. Which is also why I didn’t really take the drama that seriously at first, it was just something Netflix had recommended and a drama that could be sort of cute to watch while I got some exercise.
I want to refer to this post by teaandsojupod, because I think they really made a great point. Yes there is an age difference that might make some people raise an eyebrow, but that is the point and the drama is well aware of this fact. It is addressed multiple times throughout the drama - both the lead characters have their own thoughts and worries about the age gap, and they discuss this with their friends and family. Nothing is done without thought and care, and they both take their time to reflect on their feelings for the other before making a move.
What I love the most about their relationship, is how they always take the time to communicate their thoughts and feelings to the other, so there is no room for misunderstandings. They never hide their worries from each other - and even if they try to because they don’t want to worry the other, they know each other so well that they notice immediately and support each other through it. They protect each other in their own way and I love to see it. This is everything I want to see in a healthy romance and more. And the actors have amazing chemistry.
Other than the fantastic romance, I want to list a couple of points that only made the drama even better:
The sibling energy between Sang Zhi and her big brother is everything
The friendships in this drama are everything
The actors are all phenomenal
The writing / story is actually good and feels natural
I really did not expect to like this drama as much as I did, but it just made me smile so much, and I even ended up binging the last couple of episodes off the bike because I couldn’t wait to see how it ended.
This is a drama that I will definitely be comparing future romance dramas to in terms of how much I like the couple. We don’t need every male lead to be a rich prince on a white horse, sometimes they can be just a normal dude with normal real-life struggles.
Yes, there are some things they maybe gloss over a little bit (some b-plot with Sang Zhi’s friends, how the whole thing with Jiaxu’s past got resolved, Sang-zhi’s parents), but I really don’t think it takes away that much from the central story.
Highly recommended watch!
