What are the ladies favorite foods and suggestions for date night?
Gonna go with all my Slasher!OC ladies for this onee
Crystal Cleopatra Frost (nee~Winters) Crystal's favorite food is.... quite honestly any of Jack's baked dishes? Even when they were human, Crystal would adore trying her man's cookies, cakes, and pies, and it's nice to watch him do it too. Both the experience and the taste makes the food super enjoyable. As for date night, honestly, Crystal would probably suggest a nice little Mexican restaurant. She loves spicy food, the music is great for them to relax to, and the lovebirds can both chat together over chips and dip, being fed while also having their time together! Plus it's fun when Jack dares her to drink the Tapitillo.
Miriam Jessica Claus (nee~Allen) Miriam's favorite food is chicken noodle soup, especially with some saltines. It's just a cozy little dish to warm you up in one of the coldest places on earth. It's like a warm hug in a meal! As for date night, Miriam loves to cook herself (and her husbands know she's damn good at it) so most of the time, she cooks, and Jack provides the dessert while Santa gets the table ready for them all to enjoy.
Hela Claus (nee~Kaupaland) Hela's favorite food is... Cheeseburgers! Bless the modern humans, because if there's one thing that Hela goes straight for during lunch after a long day at the office, it's a greasy, double quarterpounder cheesy burger that's been through the garden TWICE. As for her suggestion for date night, it honestly depends. Hela loves making old Norse dishes for her Santa (Mrs Claus IS one hell of a cook after all), but when they're both tuckered out, Hela likes to suggest they go to a bar-food hybrid. Get a good brew and a bite with her love and get up to some mischief!
Michelle Linda Ray (nee~Burns) Michelle's favorite foods are cheese platters! She likes the new flavors that can be created from trying new things, the sweets, the savory, the kicks of spice, it's so interesting to try these flavors, especially since she didn't have a huge offering growing up. It's nice to just chill with some blueberry cheese and crackers sometimes. As for date night, Michelle would go with a nice high-up Italian restaurant. Ones that really pamper you with your glass constantly being refilled, the cheese freshly grated, one that would spoil her and her husband and wife, like she knows they all want.
Donna Jean Caputo-Angelo Donna's favorite food is Chinese Takeout. Specifically General Tso's, an order of egg rolls, and crab rangoon. She ordered it a lot when she was all alone on the road, and when she first moved in with Eddie. It's a simple meal that has a lot of good memories of new freedom and cute puppylove. This is also what Donna would suggest for date night, even later on when they're older. It brings a lot of good memories for both of them and it's nice to just snuggle while using their chopsticks and fighting over the last crab rangoon.
Lucky Jean Leprechaun (nee~Ramone) Lucky's favorite food is good ol' fashioned pizza pie! A dinner that she can choose what to put on it, and that tastes delicious. Even when she can afford all the food she wants, pizza is just that comfort food to fall back upon. As for date night, Lucky honestly likes a good buffet. She and Lubdan can both choose what they want, and talk about what they chose, while still spending time together, and suggesting foods they'd already gotten, to provide the other with their own good experiences!
Rosalie/Rosie Lorraine Tudor (nee~Barker) Do you really have to ask what Rosie's favorite food is? Since she was younger, Rosie has been into food science. Different flavors meshing into a new one. And the one that provided the most results and blew her mind was ice cream. Not to mention she met her beloved through it so there's a plus all on its own. Her favorite flavor is birthday cake! As for date night, there's pretty much a go-to for Gregory and Rosie, and that's a cute little sixties-style diner. Cheese burgers and fries, sharing a milkshake, and dancing to the bops? It's heaven and a half.

Pro Wrestling Illustrated: 1995 THE YEAR IN WRESTLING. March 1996
MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER OF THE YEAR “DIAMOND” DALLAS PAGE: 21,919 votes
Managing was supposed to be “Diamond” Dallas Page’s specialty–his only specialty. So when he decided to begin competing as a wrestler full-time a few years back, well, it looked like an even worse move; Page just didn’t look like a wrestler.
Eventually, though, Page became more than a wrestler, he became a champion. In the process, he became Most Improved Wrestler of the Year for 1995.
“For a guy who used to do nothing but talk, talk, talk,” wrote Brenda Parmalee of Houston, “Page has come a long way.”
He certainly has. Page’s repertoire includes several different suplexes and a few nifty flying moves. He’s also a rugged, courageous brawler, and his stamina has improved greatly. Perhaps most important, he also possesses a finishing maneuver: an excellent version of the DDT that he calls the “Diamond Cutter.”
In a sense, his success should come as no surprise. As manager of Badd Company in the AWA, and later The Freebirds, Page proved himself an excellent instructor, as well as a fine strategist. Now he’s merely using for himself what he had tried to impart to others.
“Page always liked to brag that he was so great,” wrote Carl Belinda of Ames. Iowa. “Now he’s starting to back up his boasts. About time.”
He has backed them up with wins over Dave Sullivan, Hacksaw Duggan, Alex Wright, and Johnny B. Badd, and especially with his Tv title victory over The Renegade at Fall Brawl.
“It doesn’t surprise me that DDP won a title,” said Pat Tanka, whom Page managed in Badd Company. “He always said he wanted to wrestle more. It took him a while to get going, but once he started winning, he wasn’t going to let anything get in his way.”
As dramatically as Page has improved, the consensus is that he’d be even better if he didn't spend so much time trying to impress the Diamond Doll. His attempts to win her interest have forced him to make bad decisions.
“He’s also  jealous of the attention she gets,” Sting explained. “He loses his cool and does stupid things. He’s lucky it hasn’t cost him much yet, but he better be aware of it.”
On the other hand, Page may not have improved so strongly if Doll hadn’t been there to inspire him.
RUNNERS-UP
TOMMY DREAMER: 14,910 votes
First runner-up: Dreamer began showing marked improvement after he returned to ECW from a tour of Japan early in the year. He’s quicker, he’s a better brawler (especially outside of the ring), and he executes an excellent DDT. For most of the year, Dreamer feuded with Raven in ECW, where many fans consider him the ultimate hardcore wrestler and cheer him wildly.
HARLEM HEAT: 12,613 votes
Second runner-up: Despite having won several titles in Texas, Booker T and Stevie Ray were unheralded when they signed with Sherri Martel in 1994. After a dubious start, they have gone on to win four WCW World tag team titles. In a memorable feud with The Nasty Boys, they displayed increased confidence and finely honed killer instinct.
SAVIO VEGA: 9,983 votes
Third runner-up: At the beginning of 1995, Vega wasn’t doing much. Then he came to the WWF in May. rescued Razor Ramon from an attack by Jeff Jarrett and The Roadie, and started looking like a winner himself. He is a martial arts master as well as a better-than-average brawler. He’s a good friend of Razor, and that has helped him gain opportunities for success.
VOTES FOR OTHERS (15,812)
Some of the top vote-getters who did not capture a runner-up spot include: Jesse James Armstrong, Barry Horowitz, Jean-Pierre Lafitte, Dan Severn, and Taz.

36 + 48!
helllllloooooo !!!!
36. Do you visualize what you read/write?
ABSOLUTELY. sometimes i think im better suited to screenwriting than longform writing lol. probably the place you can see this best is in my vermont ot5 fic:
Liam and Louis are sitting on the grassy area between the back of the cottage and the beginning of the orchard. It looks like they’re taking turns trying to bounce a beer can tab off each other’s foreheads and into the beer can. It makes Zayn smile stupidly as he stands on the back porch watching them. He can do this— it's not like it’s the whole band. If they take it slow, he can handle it. // “Hey,” Harry says when Zayn opens his door two weeks later. He’s just standing there, not in any of the three-thousand-dollar hoodies or Gucci shirts, but in a ripped pair of jeans and jandals, pigeon-toed, and a faded Ramones shirt slipping off one shoulder. Zayn blinks. “Is that mine?”
in my head i had imagined it sitcom style the camera zooming in on zayn's face as his inner monologue narrates a voiceover, and then hardcut to the door opening to harry's face. hopefully everyone found it as funny as i did lol
48. What’s the last fic you read? Do you recommend it?
it was a formula 1 fic! lucky thirteen and YES i ABSOLUTELY DO RECOMMEND IT. i'm not usually a kid fic fan, but this one REALLY got to me.
the last one direction fic i read was a reread of dancing on my own. soothe my poor zarry heart :(((
ask me a question about fic! :)

Light Up The Dark
Part 1 | June
Tumblr media
pairing: bartender!tom x famous!reader
warnings: some smut +18 (in this particular chapter it’s nothing TOO explicit, but miniors be aware), swear words?, drinking, let me know if anything else!
words: 4.9 k
summary: y/n is a famous horror writer. Her books are on the lips of the people and her face is on all the magazine covers of promising young people.
She has just moved to Los Angeles, the city of celebrities and luxury, when she starts to get a writer's block as she starts writing her newest book. A way to distract herself and seek inspiration leads her to have her destiny mapped out with a simple waiter named Tom who has a delicious british accent.
What happens when her inspiration comes back only after she spends a night with him and she only manages to write after being in the company of that guy she just met? Maybe he'll become her newest addiction.
a/n: english it’s not my first language, so i’m sorry for any mistake! this is a series i started writing a while ago, i hope y’all enjoy :) the reader it’s from brazil here, but you can replace from any country you want lol And obv i’m not from LA and never been there, so if i say something out of reality it’s bc of that 😂
Tumblr media
"June arrived at the restaurant, sat down near the bar and looked around vaguely. The strange people's faces made her think better and maybe drink a shot of tequila too.
She opened his folder with the horrifying photos of the mysterious case. She felt sick to her stomach.
People said that by then she should have been used to see this kind of thing, but that was repulsive.
She wish the nightmare she had the night before was a way to solve that puzzle, but believing in the afterlife now wouldn't help her... If...If..."
- Damn it... - Y/n slammed her fist on the table. - Writer's block sucks. - She said and took the last sip of her tea.
It s been a week since she couldn't write anything. She would write maybe two paragraphs, maybe even three if she got lucky, but she always ended up erasing it, because she always turned into something meaningless or too cliche.
Damn the time she had promised to deliver something to her editor by the end of the month. But she hadn't counted on the lack of ideas when she agreed to that.
She got up from her chair in frustration and crossed her arms, pacing, as if her creativity had gone out for a walk and she was waiting impatiently for it to come back.
Why had she agreed to write a new book in the first place? She didn't need money. Their previous four books were already making huge profits, and they were going to make a new television series based on one of them.
So why writing another one? Maybe because, she had been having too many nightmares lately. Many family and friends told her to see a psychologist, see if she didn't have some hidden trauma. But looking for a psychologist? Admitting your weaknesses and personal things to a stranger? Never. That would be horrifying.
Writing helped. Transferring his fears to pages was hers gift. When she wrote she didn't have nightmares, didn't see things, wasn't sad. It was like a drug, a calming medicine.
Maybe fame was also making her restless lately. She hated being the spotlight, being the magazine cover of promising young people. She hated to see her name highlighted. But she loved having readers, yes. She loved when someone felt good reading her books or in the good sense of the word: terrified by her stories.
At the height of her 25 years, he never thought her books would become famous at that point. She had always enjoyed writing since she was a child, but working with it was just an unattainable dream. Until, at age 19, she quit her hideous job as a hotel receptionist and decided to publish her first story.
Obviously there were many rejections, until a publisher agreed to publish their work. From then on, her books became more and more known. They called her the new horror genius, the mystery queen, and sometimes even "Stephen King's lost daughter."
She didn't think it was all that. But she accepted the descriptions gladly. No wonder her books didn't come out of the top spot on the best sellers.
Another thing that motivated her to continue with that story, was a phrase from her own idol mentioned, Stephen King: "good stories are those that stay in the head for a long time". And God only knew how that story had been with her for far too long. She always wanted to put it down on paper, so here she was trying to put into words what her head brought up as random thoughts.
But now she was having one of his first creative blocks. Obviously she had already had it with previous books, but nothing as frustrating as this one. She had been trying hard for days, which was exhausting.
She looked at the clock on the wall: 11pm. Who knows if she took another break before starting writing again? Maybe it would help to come up with more ideas.
She thought about watching a show or movie, but he wasn't in the mood. She looked at her long polka dot pajamas under her favorite warm robe and snorted. Go out? On a Thursday night? On a cold night? No way.
But what if it helped her have more writing material? Watching people on the street really helped. If June, the character in her book, was in a bar, maybe if she went to one too it would help to have something to build on.
Writers did it all the time. Describe places that already existed, situations similar to which they lived. So, it wouldn't be new. Maybe she'd even put the location in her tribute if helped she got out of her creative block.
She took a deep breath and went to take a shower. It was decided, she would go out. She put on her best jeans, a Ramones T-shirt with a leather jacket. It wasn't a fancy outfit, but she didn't intend to go somewhere fancy anyway. Her stylist would have been dying to see her now, but she didn't care one bit.
She went out pressing the bottom of the elevator. Y/n had lived on the top floor of a building for 2 months, right in downtown Los Angeles. Sometimes she didn't even know why she chose to live there, she hated the big city and what came with it: paparazzi, celebrities, crazy people who feel superior, wealth and luxury. She came from a humble family, so she always felt like an outsider.
Y/n arrived downstairs and left the condominium calling a taxi that was passing in the street just in time. She walked in and closed the door, crossing her arms, trying to ward off the cold.
- Good night miss, where are you going? - the driver asked looking at her in the rearview mirror.
- Good night... Actually I don't know, do you have any suggestions for a bar around here?- she asked looking out the window. She didn't even bother to look for suggestions for places nearby.
- Well, it depends on what you're looking for... Something luxurious or something fun? - He said and a smiled played on the corer of her mouth. Luxurious was the opposite of fun indeed.
- Something fun, of course.
- So, I suggest the new Seven Devils bar, it's less than 20 minutes from here... - he said.
- Interesting name... Could be. - She said shrugging.
- The name is kinda creepy, but the place is cozy and welcoming, I went once. - the driver said starting and entering the street that was practically empty for being a weekday.
- Cool... - Y/n said looking at the city lights through the window.
After nearly twenty minutes the taxi stopped in front of what appeared to be a small door with a security guard in front of it. The neon sign indicated the name of the place, it seemed a mysterious place for those who passed by without knowing it.
- Thanks. - Y/n said handing the driver the money.
- You're not the Y/n Y/l/n? I didn't want to say anything, but I'm a fan of you, I love your books, they help me pass the time while I wait for passengers. - the driver asked turning a little with one of the Y/n books in his hand. - Could you sign this for me?
- Sure! - Y/n spoke excitedly taking the book from his hand and leaving a message along with her signature. - Thanks for the tip of the place. Have a good night... - She said opening the door.
- No, thank you, have a good night miss. -he said and she smiled closing the door and the taxi left leaving her alone looking at the door in front of her.
She approached the security guard who wished her good night, giving her room to enter, after she showed her ID. Y/n entered a little afraid of what she would find. The door behind her closed and she looked around. It was really cozy as the taxi driver said, it had a part with several tables, which were a little empty and a bar with stools around. The place had a good atmosphere, one of those that people go there to meet and chat with friends, in the background there was a kind of pop song that she wasn't sure if she knew or not.
He slowly approached the bar and sat down on one of the stools. A woman with several tattoos appeared behind the counter and came to serve her.
- Good night! How can I serve you?- she asked with a smile.
- Good night... Hm... Maybe a martini? - Y/n said taking a look at the drinks on the shelf behind the attendant.
- Okay, I'll be back with your order, anything else?
- That's it for now, thanks. - She replied smiling and the attendant walked away.
Y/n kept looking around, watching people, maybe looking for some inspiration. Something that would turn the key in his mind. Many who were there were in groups of friends and were talking animatedly, laughing. Some young and some older, in suits and ties, perhaps coming out of work.
Until one guy in particular caught her attention. He wore the black uniform with the name of the place, with an apron tied around the waist of the same color, and was picking up some glasses from some empty tables. He had dark brown hair slicked back and eyes the same color, very expressive and large. A boy's face from the outside, but on the inside had a mysterious and confident air.
He balanced a tray full of things with an greatest skill in one hand and smiled at some people, he seemed charming because everytime he left a table he left people whispering and giggling embarrassed behind his back.
He walked over and entered the bar placing the tray behind the counter, came close to the other attendant who already had the Y/n martini ready and she could hear him talking, soon realizing he had a perfect accent.
- Sally, you can leave it to me, go take your break. Whose martini is it?- he asked taking a look around.
- Oh thank you, my feet are killing me. It's the girl over there. -she said indicating Y/n with her head and he looked at her, making Y/n realize that she was staring at him for too long, so she looked away embarrassed.
- Okay. - he said looking at where Y/n was sitting and stopped in front of her with the glass. - Good night miss, here is your order. - He spoke with a british accent. Only at that moment did Y/n realize that his accent was well loaded and God only knows how much she loved that accent.
- Oh yes, thank you very much. - She said raising her eyes to look at him and smiled then he blinked with one of his eyes and gave her one more look, before going to deliver another order to a man who was sitting a few benches away.
Y/n felt a shiver all of a sudden, that boy had made her legs a little weak and she didn't really know why. I mean, he was handsome, very handsome and he had a special charm, but it wasn't that much, was it? Maybe it was because it had been a while since she'd dated anyone. When was the last time? Two months ago? Since she had moved in she hadn't gone out with anyone, she had locked herself in her apartment and was writing like crazy. She didn't have time to go out, not even with her friends when she was working on a new book. Which brought them dissatisfaction from time to time, not just because she didn't hang around with them, but because she didn't even go out on one-night stands.
She never been the one that going out with a guy just for sex, she had to have some good first dates and maybe she would take him to see her apartment or go to his apartment. Friends of hers thought she was too old in her spirit, but what can he do? If she couldn't be bad girl once in a while. For a moment she thought, "For this english guy I would be" but shook her head away from the thoughts. She went back to analyzing him, dammit why did he have to be so fit? She could see that the T-shirt he was wearing highlighted his muscles that were only left to her imagination, she found herself biting her lip a bit and snatching her martini off the counter, taking a big sip.
The attendant approached again, drying some glasses with a towel, and took one more look in her direction where she looked away quickly making him smirk. He stopped in front of her again, bracing her arms on the counter, making her swallow hard. He didn't know why she was so nervous, he was just a guy, no biggie.
- I like the shirt. - He pointed with a smile, which made her think he had a beautiful and endearing smile. She looked down and then looked at him smiling too.
- Thank you... Ramones is everything... - she said and drank the last sip of her drink placing the empty glass in front of her right after. - Can you serve one more?
- Sure...- he said, still smiling, took the bottle and filled his glass again. - Trying to distract yourself on a thursday night?
- Yeah... you could say yes... - she said taking another sip. - Have you worked here for a long time?
- In fact, it's been almost six months since I moved to the United States and I've been working here for four months. -he said putting the towel that was in his hand on his shoulder.
- Hm... You're from London?
- I am, wow how did you find out? - he asked raising an eyebrow playfully and she smiled.
- Yeah, your accent really doesn't give out anything ... - she said and he gave a low laugh making her have more goose bumps.
- You also have a different accent, have you lived here for a long time? - he didn't know who she was, which was good. But it also wasn't like she was recognized all the time, despite her face being on magazine covers, she was still a writer, so she was only recognized by those who liked to read or who vaguely remembered her face.
- I was born in Brazil actually, but I've lived here for years, lived in another city for almost five years and now I've decided to come to Los Angeles two months ago...
- I see ... - he said organizing some drinks that were on the counter. - Do you like it here?
- More or less... It's a busy city, isn't it?
- Yeah, it's not for anyone. - He said shrugging. - I like it, I like the rush, but the glamor part really isn't me. - the attendant said and she smiled.
- You're right... I mean, I don't like the glam too much either... - She looked away at her nails.
- What do you work with? - he asked and she looked at him again.
- I'm a writer...
- Nice! What do you write? - He asked curious looking at her with attention.
- I write horror and thriller books.
- Interesting... I would never read, actually I'm not much of a reader anyway, but I wouldn't, because I'm terrified of those things. - He said crossing his arms and she laughed.
- Oh, it's not that terrifying, it's just stories. - She said leaning her elbows on the counter.
- Still, I prefer to have my good night's sleep intact. - He said and she laughed making him smile looking at her.
When she was about to say something, a customer signaled for him and he excused himself going towards the man who was furthest away.
Y/n sighed. She still didn't have any new ideas about her story, but she was entertained by that conversation. She liked not being recognized, she liked him not being interested in her books, for a moment she felt oblivious to anything, liked feeling disconnected from her world.
He returned shortly after and they started talking again. They talked about bands, movies, superficial celebrities and even politics (an important topic in Y/n's vision, who was very firm with her ideas, thankfully he had passed the test). She found out that he was the same age as her and that he moved to the US to look for something that would give him money or a perspective on life, ended up getting that job and intended to stay until he found a different area. The hours passed and they kept finding subjects to give their opinion or questions to ask each other.
- Did you go to college? - she asked after a while.
- No, I don't think I'm smart enough for that, or have the patience. What about you?
- Everyone is smart enough. I started going to business school, but I dropped out when my books started to pay off...
- Wow, your books should give you a good amount of money to be able to drop out of college and dedicate yourself to them...
- Yeah... You could say that. - She shrugged.
- You know looking at you closer like that...- he said getting a little closer and she held her breath for a moment. - I've seen you somewhere...
- Really? - She said raising her eyebrow and drinking from a straw, now with a different drink.
- I don't know, you're not strange to me... - he said putting his hand on his face thoughtfully.
- Well, I hope it's from somewhere nice. - She smiled and he smiled back looking at her. - Do you have a girlfriend or are you married? - Y/n asked and regretted a little, what was she thinking? He wasn't married, as he didn't have a ring on his finger as she'd noticed. But what was her intention by asking that question? She didn't even know, she just knew it had escaped her.
- Neither darling. - He replied smiling a little mischievously and she felt butterflies with the way he called her by that nickname and with that accent. - How about you?
- Neither ... - She replied avoiding looking at him, those eyes hypnotized her and she didn't like to feel at his mercy of a guy she had just met. She took the cell phone disguising but paid attention to the time. - My God, it's already 2:00 in the morning! I completely missed the time.
- I think the company ended up distracting you. - He said still not taking his eyes off her and she felt her cheeks heat up.
- Yeah, the chat was really good... But I have to go... - she said getting up.
- If you wait I can take you home, I'm already leaving, the bar is already closing. - he said and Y/n looked around seeing that some waiters were already collecting some things from the tables.
She thought for a moment, take a ride home with him? It didn't make sense, she had just met him, but at the same time she had enjoyed talking to him so much. He didn't seem like a bad person, but even so you would never know for sure. At the same time she never took any chances, why not let that pretty boy take her home? Finally, she thought: you know what? Screw this.
-Erm, ok...- She shrugged. - I'll go to the cashier to pay and wait for you outside?
- No need to pay darling, it's on me. - He spoke winking and she smiled.
- Oh no, I'll pay no problem...
- Your company has paid off your debt, it's ok. - He replied and she took a deep breath rolling her eyes.
- If you insist...- she said giving up.
He came out from behind the counter and motioned for her to follow him, arriving at the front door where the security was.
- Tuwaine, you can let her pass, it's on me. - He told the big guy and he looked at the english man, sawing his eyes suspiciously and smiling right away. Making Y/n laugh inside.
- Meet you outside? It will only take a few minutes - the attendant said and she nodded, leaving in the cold night.
She leaned against the door with her thoughts. She had come here just to get inspiration and to have her creative back, but she was coming home with an english guy. She didn't even recognize herself anymore, but to say she wasn't anxious (in a good way) was a lie.
She was lost in her thought, until minutes later he came out wearing a denim jacket, which made him look even more handsome.
- Let's go? - He said and she followed him to an old car parked right in front of the bar.
He opened the door for her to get in and she thanked him by sitting in the passenger seat, pulling on her seat belt as he closed the door. He sat down next to her right away, also putting on his belt.
- Hey, before we go: I didn't ask for your name! If you're going to take me home at least I have to know that- she asked realizing that she didn't even know that yet and he looked towards her smiling.
- Tom Holland. - He said stretching his hand. - Nice to meet you.
- Y/n Y/l/n- she said, squeezing his hand. And you can't deny that she felt butterflies in her stomach as she felt her skin on hers.
- Your name is not strange to me, I must have read it in one of your books in some shop window. - He said starting and leaving with the car.
- Yeah, who knows ... - she said and he turned on the radio leaving the volume low.
They were exchanging a few words until she indicated that they had arrived at the building where she lived. Tom parked and looked up in a daze.
- Wow, you really have money... - he said and she took off her belt turning towards him.
- A little bit...- she replied crossing her arms. - Well, thank you so much for the ride...
- You're welcome darling. - He said turning his eyes to her. Again that nickname that sounded perfect on his lips.
She turned around, but when she was about to open the door, she turned back to Tom, who was leaning with one hand on the steering wheel and watching her with attention. The next words escaped her again and she was afraid she'd regret it.
- Tom, do you want to come in? - She spoke still holding the door and the boy smiled.
- Sure ... - he said taking the key from the ignition and she shook her head slightly leaving.
He followed her and they entered the building. Tom looked at everything admired which made Y/n smile a little to herself. They entered the elevator and she pressed the penthouse button causing him to raise an eyebrow.
- You really must be a great writer. - he said and she laughed.
He leaned his back against the elevator wall, putting his hands in his pocket and looking her up and down, making her shy. He kept looking at her and it was making her nervous.
They were silent until the elevator opened after a while and they got out. Y/n put a password on the door and it swung open with a small click, she took held the latch and motioned for Tom to enter.
After the two of them entered she closed the door again behind her and watched Tom standing further on, looking around.
- Nice apartment...- he finally said.
- Thank you... - She leaned against the table at the entrance. She didn't know what to do next, maybe it had been a bad idea to bring him here. Why was she so impulsive that night? -Tom, I don't know why I invite you in, sorry...-she said a little nervous looking at her feet. He turned towards her, approaching and stopping in front of her.
- Are you sure you don't know? - He asked and she raised her head, seeing those brown eyes. She bit her bottom lip watching him closely. Damn he knew how to hypnotize her. He took another step and placed a hand on either side of her on the table, cornering her - Your body says otherwise, love... - he said softly feeling her breath hitch slowly and approaching his face to hers, alternating the look of your eyes to her lips. Y/n found another nickname that was perfect when he say.
He finally closed the distance by pressing his lips to hers. His lips were soft and warm, as if they were meant to be kissed. She returned the kiss willingly and when she laced her fingers in his neck, he licked her lower lip slowly asking for passage in which she opened them letting his tongue explore her mouth.
His hands gripped her waist and roamed her body greedily. As he kissed her, he caught her from behind her legs and sat her down on the entrance table, biting her bottom lip shortly after, provoking a low moan from her. He smiled against her lips and trailed kisses to her neck, attacking her skin with desire, making her throw her head back a little.
She grabbed his hair and pulled him back so she could kiss him. Which he gladly reciprocate. His kiss was urgent, but without being rude, he tasted like mint, making her want him even more.
His fingers found the button of her pants and he undid them quickly pulling them out, tossing them aside. When he came back he took her calf and kissed her leg up to her thighs, making her sigh. He moved up the kisses until he caught the hem of her shirt and pulled it up a little, kissing her stomach as well. Y/n didn't know what to do but feel goose bumps with every touch he gave. He then hiked up her shirt and she lifted her arms where he pulled her off, tossing along with her pants that were also on the floor.
She was just wearing her underwear in front of him, it made her a little excited and embarrassed at the same time, but the way he looked at her made her feel confident. He went back to kissing her body, this time kissing each covered breast in turn and reaching for the back of her bra and opening it. She helped him out tosiing to the side and he stood between her legs just watching her for a second, making her feel her cheeks heat up.
- Perfect... - he said with a low voice, as it was for himself and bent down to her breasts kissing each one of her nipples and then sucking them deliciously. Y/n moaned and bit her lip to keep her moans from getting louder, tangling her fingers in his hair again. He looked into her eyes for a few seconds and smiled slightly lowering his kisses to where she wanted him most.
He reached the hem of her panties and pulled them out slowly, kneeling between her legs and she looked at him with expectation. He returned the look and gave that smirk again.
- Look at you darling.... - That damn nickname. - Extremely wet and I haven't even touched you yet... - he said approaching and devouring her right away making her throw her head back with pleasure, biting her lips again to not sound so pathetic with her moans that insisted in wanting get out. - Oh, please don't drown out those wonderful sounds you make, I want to hear how good I'm making you feel. - He said in a husky tone, returning to his task after and she parted her lips letting her moans spread through the apartment.
****************************************************************************************
Y/n woke up the other day in her bed. She didn't even know how she got there, she just had flashes of the night before and how good she felt in each moment. She stretched and looked to the side seeing she was alone. She got up and put on a robe who was on the side of the bed.
After going to the bathroom and doing her morning hygiene routine she walked around the apartment looking around to see if Tom was somewhere else in the house, but found nothing. Which was understandable, it wasn't like she expected him to stay there and have breakfast with her and all.
She arrived in the kitchen and made black coffee and lean against the countertop. What that simple waiter had done to her was ridiculous, in a good sense, she felt great and kept remembering that accent that was stuck in her mind. He had consumed her in a way she had never imagined it she could be.

Taking a deep breath she set down turning her notebook on. Then opened her book and started writing.

Let’s talk about the 70s punk scene and HWS England
I sometimes feel that the fandom doesn’t give England’s love for punk/rock music much justice. Some authors usually write about this human AU in which Arthur wants to be a rockstar and some others plainly avoid the topic whatsoever. Which is a pity because I actually believe the whole character has a deep punk reference, specially regarding appearence (might expand on this in another post but basically, for me, England seems like some random bushy browed anime 70s punk guy who suddenly has to put on a suit and attend world meetings, which is both fascinating and hilarious).
So I thought maybe we could dive a bit into very general punk history and then I’d like to share with you some hc regarding England’s involvement with punk culture in general (if you just want to read the hcs just scroll down to the last paragraph with the bullet ponts).
My experience in punk stuff is actually that I’m kind of a metalhead lol. Metalheads and punks had and probably still have a deeply-rooted rivalry. However, punk influenced metal a lot, and metal also influenced punk. So I stumbled upon many punk facts while browsing about my favorite metal bands.
Take this as historical hetalia... but counterculture historical hetalia :D (which is something we need more in the fandom, btw, I know military history is cool but its also cool how humans expressed themselves through art, fashion and music when they felt the pressure of authority and the frustration of society).
Historical context
Let’s return a bit in time and remember the 60s. The 60s were this blessed time in which people tried to defeat the establishment with peace and love. The hippie movement is from this decade and it influenced a lot on how people thought and behaved. In terms of counterculture, I must say this is a fascinating time in history (I recently discovered psychodelic science and its so incredible what was being talked back then).
Anyways, although a lot of young people were into this discourse of love and peace, some weren’t really that happy about it. In Europe, the post-war situation was sad and a lot of young people either were jobless or had the shittiest jobs you could imagine. Politics were also depressing. This was the origin not only for punk but also for other genres of heavy music, such as metal: People who didn’t want to be all happy and peaceful and had the need to express their frustration and anger, shouting about how society was fucked up. They needed an outlet.
Origins of punk
The origins of punk music are actually not quite clear. In fact, the US and the UK both claim that punk music was born in their country. Funnily enough, my country also claims to be the origin of punk (I’ll leave this mini-doc for you. Sadly, I don’t think this is a correct claim, mainly because their music was in spanish and I doubt that major punk bands took them as reference. Its a cool band tho).
I have to side with americans on this: The arguments for the american origins of punk are quite solid. The Ramones were the first actual punk band out there. They were active since 1974. Their music had all the elements of punk and, chronologically, they were the first ones performing this type of sound.
However, they didn’t have the aesthetic. That actually was a british invention. American punk had still leather jackets, jeans and sneakers. British punk? Well, remember all those ripped pants and shirts you commonly associate with punk? Yes, those were the Sex Pistols all along. They were the ones introducing the attitude and the style. The Pistols had some insane performances and a huge shock-value that can’t be found in early american punk. So you can safely say that your image of what a punk is is based mainly on the Pistols (also, for singing anti-authoritarian lyrics, they actually were managed by some dude who had a fashion shop. So yeah...).
Punk attitude or philosophy or whatever
The reason why I addressed the rockstar thing at the start of the post is because I find it curious. Punk is characterized by the whole Do It Yourself attitude and breaking with the establishment. Anarchism in punk is scandalizing people since there is no authority whatsoever. There wasn’t really any deep philosophy behind all of this, nor any political movement. Punk has nothing to do with a formal anarchist philosophy (which actually exists and has nothing to do with disorder). However, punk is characterized by the anti-establihsment lyrics. Remember, this is all about scandalizing people (which sometimes took great lengths). Presentations from british punk bands were also quite wild those days. They involved a lot of insults, spitting and, of course, pogo.
So, it is obvious that there is this deep concern about turning into a sellout, a pretty common fear in any underground scene. Authenticity was encouraged. Aspiring rockstars really didn’t have much mercy in the community so to speak, at least in this specific period.
I would also like to add how punk had other aspects beside the music. For example, fanzines were pretty popular in the punk scene in the 70s and a great way to engage with what was going on with bands and music. I remember also this interview of this band in which they remembered how a very high guy decided to recite his poem while the band was playing. So, yeah, literature, illustration, fashion and other stuff were involved in the punk scene too.
British punk was also characterized by a very nihilistic attitude and a total disregard for previous influences. 1977, a song by The Clash, stated:
No Elvis, Beatles, or the Rolling Stones!
Now, for the important stuff: The music. Punk music is all about being simple. Punk musicians aren’t really known for their virtuosity in their instruments, something that actually inspired musicians from a lot of heavy bands later. In fact, the famous Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols never could learn how to play the bass. So the band disconnected his instrument from the amplifier and he only had to pretend to play. The guy actually tried to learn how to play bass but music wasn’t exactly his talent. He had tons of punk attitude though, and that was the reason why his band didn’t kick him out.
Vocals are usually shouted, the rythm is fast and the riffs are quite simple. In fact, there is this famous publication on a 1976 british fanzine that stated:
This is a chord
This is another
This is a third
Now form a band
HWS England and the 70s punk scene and onwards
Thanks to his immortality, it is obvious that England had to experience the 70s in all their glory (what a lucky bastard). Was he there? Hell yes. As I explained before in some of my hc posts, nations represent the population more than their Government, so I really believe that England felt the frustration from that post-wwii decade and he probably also felt pissed about this. Working for the Government must have felt really frustrating during those years.
In the past, he probably would have tried to take his ship and sail the seas or whatever, but that was not possible in the modern era. I guess that’s how he discovered punk.
Now, rock existed in England before punk. I mean, the Beatles, duh. So Arthur wouldn’t have been completely ignorant about rock music in general. Contrary to popular belief I don’t imagine him being that much of a beatlemaniac though. Sure he likes them, but the music didn’t resonated with him as much. But boy, that first time he heard the Pink Fairies in 1971 (Yes, this was an actual band, a proto-punk band)? Yeah, he could relate more to that.
More detailed stuff here:
Pubs were crucial for the development of punk music. They were these spaces in which bands could play, a venue to discover new music. Yes, Arthur must have been a regular in a lot of these pubs.
Fanzines probably fascinated Arthur as an outlet for his own writings and silly drawings. He probably created a cringey pseudonym and collaborated with a lot of them.
Its canon that England likes to critic american movies, and, taking from there, I think he’s the type of guy that has an opinion for everything. So I can imagine him also writing about what bands he enjoyed and what bands sucked.
Yeah, I can also see him being drunk and just reciting a poem while some rock band played behind.
With some ability, and a lil bit of tricks, Arthur could escape normal Government activities and perform with punk bands at nights. People were so into the music that he had no problem passing by.
Some cover art in CDs show Enlgland with a guitar and a bass (yes, not many people remember the bass cover art). So he probably plays both guitar and bass. He also probably plays the drums. Of course, he’s no virtuoso and he only knows the most basic stuff in those three instruments. I can see him being into songwriting tho.
Music equipment:
Guitar: Definetely a Telecaster
Bass: Fender P-bass and I can also see him having a Rickenbacker 4001
All these instruments are full with stickers. Punk instruments look really cool btw. (I wish my bass could look like those I see in certain punk bands)
England’s probably the kind of guy that doesn’t cut his strings at the head of his guitar.
He can actually play guitar/bass and sing at the same time.
England plays bass with a pick (what an asshole, we bassists know picks are not allowed)
Contrary to popular belief, I can see England appreciating good rock music from other countries and supporting them. He probably insists that punk music was born in the UK though.
1977: The Queen was going to celebrate her silver jubilee. And England had no problem with this. He really had none... but he HAD to be in that boat trip with the Sex Pistols. There’s no way he was going to miss that. He later had to explain his abscence that day to his Government officials (Btw, my hc for England’s relationship with his monarchy is “It’s complicated”. I can explain this later. Just remember that he was really pissed those days)
I can see Arthur in general being really involved with the scene. A lot of the stuff they were making actually matches with his canon interests and even personality. So he probably enjoyed those days and felt quite at home. I can even say that, for a long time, he hadn’t felt that kind of connection with his own people.
Although I can see England being attracted by the nihilism in the scene, I think his romanticism protects him from embracing it fully.
England had to live a double-life during this era. Not that it was new for him.
Arthur was pierced several times by some random, drunk teenagers. He doesn’t remember who tho. He was also drunk. Obviously his piercings close really fast, unless he has a permanent jewel in there.
I can actually see England expanding his music taste. Although punk is in his heart, it wouldn’t be strange for me that he’s overall a rock nerd and enjoys other genres, specially those with fast drum beats and heavy riffs. So I can see him having some metal favorites too, having a certain taste for prog rock and even digging into hardcore.
I’m still unsure if England would have been a massive Pistols fan as fanfics usually portray him. I mean, maybe? I would say he is definetely into acts such as the Pink Fairies (I mean, c’mon, its perfect). The Clash and the Damned probably also have a place in his heart.
After the punk scene dried out (the 80s weren’t that great for punk music although it was the birth of even heavier forms of music based on punk), England also was eager about the new genres flourishing during these times based on punk. Acts like folk punk might have had an appeal for him. He’s also fond of the punk-ish bands from the 90s like Green Day.
“Punk will never die!” shouted England while stage diving in some random small concert. He likes to support new bands these days.
The most fascinating thing, maybe in a more poetic sense, is that England’s immortality probably also helps him to keep up a punk spirit as much as his nationhood allows him, instead of aging poorly and angry like a lot of punk musicians... I mean, he aged poorly, but for other reasons lmao.

Earl Grey and Cappuccinos: Part Two
This chapter is so long, and I’m so excited to share all of it with you. As always, @nalgenewhore is my very creative bestie, and she’s responsible for some of the really cute dialogue you’re about to read. Also, Dee Dee, Jello, and Jett came from her mind - I just expanded. Also, the music that gets mentioned here - all of that came from her.
The other part of this story, along with everything else I’ve written, can be found on my masterlist, which is linked in my bio.
Summary: It’s a Coffee Shop AU meets Rival Tattoo Artists AU meets Elorcan k- do I even need to say anything else?
Warnings: Still just language.
.
Elide knocked on the door to Lorcan’s apartment, wiping her hands on her black mom jeans when the sound echoed loudly in the empty hallway. She cringed at the noise, looking over herself one final time to make sure she looked presentable for their date. She’d chosen a red crop top to pair with her jeans, and even though her arms were covered, the low neckline showed off the tattoo arching over her chest perfectly. Tied all together with her signature platform Doc Martens, she looked like the badass babe everyone always told her she was - if she could only shake her nerves.
Before she could make herself even more freaked out, the door opened and she was met with the sight of Lorcan’s defined torso wrapped in a dark grey Henley. Glancing down, she saw he’d paired it with dark wash jeans and dark high-top Chucks. “Hey,” he greeted, dropping a kiss to the top of her head before motioning her into his apartment.
Reaching up to tap a finger against the arm of his round-rim glasses, which somehow made him even more handsome (especially given the contrast they provided with his septum piercing), she replied, “hey yourself, babes.” Elide let out a small chuckle as she looked over the inside of his apartment. It was an industrial loft, but everything was dark - from the walls to the furniture to the tiny pitbull puppy peering at her over the back of the sofa. “Oh my gods that is the tiniest puppy I’ve ever seen.”
He grinned at her as he moved toward the dog, offering the tiny creature a gentle smile. “His name is Dee Dee, and he’s very shy.” Lorcan picked him up, cradling him in his arms as the puppy gave Elide a nervous look. “You can come say hi if you want, but he’s not big on people.”
Giving the puppy a soft smile, she approached the two of them slowly, one hand extended towards Dee Dee where he was burrowing into Lorcan’s chest. He gave her a long look, almost like he was deciding if he could trust her or not, but after a moment he pushed his little nose against Elide’s palm. “Hi,” she whispered, giggling when he started to lick her fingers. “Did your silly daddy name you after the bassist of the Ramones?”
“Well I’ll be damned.” He stared at her with a look of shock on his face, and it only grew when Dee Dee began pawing at Elide’s hand, trying to crawl out of Lorcan’s arms and into hers. “He’s never been this sure of anyone before. And yes - yes I did name him after the bassist of my favorite band.”
“Of course you did,” she replied, scooping Dee Dee into her arms and scratching him behind his ears. “I see someone never quite got over their teenage angst - I don’t think this apartment could get any darker.”
Lorcan laughed at that, a strand of dark hair falling over his glasses, since he’d left it loose for their date. “Lucky for you, I lost enough of that angst that I realized blackout curtains were unnecessary - and a little creepy.”
“And you’d be right on both counts.” Elide smirked at him, elbowing him lightly in the stomach when he just shook his head at her.
“As much as I hate to break up this little cuddle-fest between the two of you,” Lorcan started, reaching out to take Dee Dee back, “I think you and I have a date planned?”
“You know, I do remember something about that,” she quipped, leaning down to kiss the puppy’s head before he curled up in a little ball on the couch after Lorcan put him down. “Bye sweet boy - I’ll be back to visit you soon.”
Wrapping an arm around her waist, he began leading her toward the door. “I’m glad Dee Dee likes you, though it does mean I have to work that much harder to impress you today. I hope you like what I have planned, which includes our first stop - the bookstore.”
“I’m sure I will, babes, since you’re already off to a great start - you know, with the adorable puppy and all. And I must say, the glasses are an added bonus - they make you even more handsome. But, do you mind if we make a quick stop first? I promise it’s right on the way - and I think you’re gonna like it.”
“Anything for you, mamas.”
~*^*~
Lorcan couldn’t help the grin that seemed to be permanently fixed on his face when it came to Elide Lochan. The minute he’d opened his door and seen the phases of the moon inked across her chest, with more of the design spilling down between her breasts, he’d been completely gone for her. And when Dee Dee, his sweet, shy little pup who hid from everyone, took to her with hardly a second thought, he’d fallen even further than he thought was possible.
The object of his affection was currently tugging on his hand, a bright smile spread over her lips as she tried to get him to stop. He realized they must have reached her intended destination, and he turned to face the building, curious to see where she had taken him.
They were in front of the record store.
“This is my surprise?” he asked, tugging gently on the hand he still had twined with hers. “The record store?”
Turning to face him, Elide knocked her forehead against his chest gently before giving him an exasperated look. “Wow, you’re a perceptive one, huh?” She said it in the driest tone he’d ever heard another person use, and he couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped him. “Nothing gets by you, does it?”
He merely raised an eyebrow at her, not deigning her sarcasm with a response. Lorcan could see the edges of her lips starting to turn up, and he knew she was fighting a grin.
“No, babes,” she continued, resting her chin on his chest, “the store isn’t your surprise - it’s the idea that goes along with it. I thought that we could pick out records for each other? Since we both like music and seem to have the same taste?”
Hearing the uncertainty in her tone, he couldn’t help but kiss the tip of her nose. “I think that’s a wonderful idea.”
The resulting smile she gave him stopped his heart in his chest.
~*^*~
After browsing the store for a solid twenty minutes, they’d both made their purchases and were ready to show them to each other. Though they’d wandered around the store separately in order to surprise one another with the records they’d picked out, Elide had twined her fingers with his every time she had to walk by him. She’d hold on even as she kept walking, not letting go until she absolutely had to. And, each time, she’d turned to watch him just as their hands separated, a small pout pulling on her lips as they lost contact.
She came bounding up to him where he was waiting on the sidewalk for her, a beautiful smile on her face as she ducked under his arm and wrapped her own around his waist. “Hi,” she murmured, lips pressing against his chest in a gentle kiss.
“Hey you,” Lorcan whispered back, one arm falling around her shoulders as he tugged gently on the ends of her hair. “Ready to show me what you found for me?”
Offering him a wry smile, she giggled and shook her head. “You first.”
He just furrowed his brows and gave her a confused look, but he handed over his bag anyway. “I just - I saw this one and it just screamed your name at me. I hope you like it.”
Setting her other bag on the ground by her feet, Elide offered him a quieter smile that was a little more shy than the others she’d given him as she opened his bag. “Oh my gods!” she squealed, her eyes lighting up as she pulled Vive le Trash ‘74 by the New York Dolls out of the bag. “Lorcan, this is perfect!”
She pressed the album to her chest, and Lorcan felt the tension ease out of his shoulders. He’d been so nervous that she wouldn’t like it - he’d actually been afraid that she’d hate it. Even though she seemed over the moon about it, he still asked, “you really like it?”
”Babes,” she whispered, pressing a lingering kiss to his jaw. “I love it.” Her fingers ghosted over his jaw as she slid her arm around his neck, scraping her nails over his neck in a comforting gesture. “You had no way of knowing this, but live albums are my favorite albums. Something about them just speaks to me. You couldn’t have made a more perfect choice.”
“I’m glad to hear it, love.” Pushing a strand of hair behind her ear, he kissed her forehead. “Alright mamas, let’s see what you got me.”
Elide nudged him with her hip as she leaned down to grab the bag on the ground, and he winced theatrically and stumbled back a couple steps. Laughter tumbled from her lips, and he knew then and there he’d do anything to keep hearing that sound. “Now,” she started, grabbing his hand to keep him from taking the bag, “please keep in mind that there is a reason behind this.”
“Uh huh, whatever you say, mamas.” Giving her a skeptical look, Lorcan glanced into the bag she’d handed him. He could feel the confusion settling across his face, and he knew she could see it the minute he met her eyes. “Plastic Letters? You got me Blondie?”
“Erm, yeah?” He could hear the question, the hesitation, the uncertainty in her voice, and he hated that he’d put it there. “I just figured that you need to branch out from the one band you listen to.” She giggled as she said it, and he couldn’t help but join in, even though she still seemed unsure of herself. “And, I did hear you humming The Tide is High when we were at lunch the other day, so I just thought you might like it?”
Wrapping an arm around her shoulders, he nuzzled her temple with his nose. “Can you keep a secret?” When she nodded, he continued, “Blondie is actually one of my favorite bands. You did good, El.”
He felt her sag against him, and he heard her sigh of relief. “Oh thank Anneith. I was so worried you didn’t like it.”
“That could never happen - somehow you know me a lot better than you should, love.”
“Like I said,” she replied, her fingers trailing over his hip, “we’re connected, babes.”
“Indeed we are.” Beginning to lead her in the direction of the bookstore, he added, “let’s go see how deep that connection goes.”
~*^*~
Elide was practically bouncing in excitement by the time they reached the bookstore. Books had always been her favorite escape, and she’d always loved browsing the stacks until she found one that called to her. Plus, spending time with Lorcan was becoming her new favorite thing, and she was excited for their date to continue.
She made to reach for the door, and promptly drew up short when she felt two warm hands land on the bare skin of her hips and draw her back against a broad chest. Squealing at the suddenness of the motion, she felt Lorcan’s chuckle vibrate through his chest and into her back.
“Just a minute there, Lochan,” he purred, his breath ghosting over the skin of her neck as he leaned down to whisper in her ear. “This isn’t an average trip to the bookstore.”
“Oh?” she murmured, tilting her head and arching her back to give him access to her neck. “What’s so special about it then?”
He leaned into her, pressing his lips to her neck and letting them slide over the smooth expanse of her skin. “Well mamas, it’s like this: you sorta stole my idea at the record store, but I was thinking we could pick out books for one another?”
Though the feeling of his lips on her skin was like nothing she’d ever felt before, the sweetness behind his gesture meant more to her. Whirling around in his arms, Elide wrapped her own around his neck. “That’s perfect!” she squealed, kissing his jaw as he pulled her tighter against him.
Pulling back to look in her eyes, he grinned down at her. “Well, shall we see what we find?
Elide grabbed his hand and started pulling him toward the door before he’d even finished talking, a happy little giggle falling from her lips.
~*^*~
She practically launched herself at Lorcan the minute he walked through the door. She’d picked out his book much quicker than he’d picked out hers, so she’d wandered around the store for a while before deciding to pay and wait for him outside. Elide whispered her plan to him on her way outside, her fingers dancing along his muscled back and shoulders as her lips brushed against his ear - he’d leaned down to meet her when she rose up on her toes, one arm banding around her waist to bring her even closer to him.
Though he’d been looking down at his bag as he pushed the door open, he looked up just in time to catch her as she flung herself at him. Lorcan slid one hand under her thighs as she wrapped her legs around his waist, securing her to his chest and pressing a kiss to the top of her head as he walked them away from the door.
Lifting her head, which she’d nuzzled into his neck when he picked her up, Elide met his gaze with her own, a smile pulling over her face.
“You’re cute,” he murmured, squeezing her thighs. “Did you know that?”
Scratching her nails over the back of his neck, Elide smirked down at him. “I did,” she quipped. “But it doesn’t hurt to hear it again.”
“You’re also very sassy.” Setting her down, Lorcan pressed his lips to the top of her head before reaching for the bag in her hand. “Okay, let me see what you got for me.”
Taking a step back, Elide handed him her bag, giving him a gentler smile when he took it from her. He was grinning before he’d even pulled it entirely out of the bag, and that smile only grew as she saw him mouth the title of the book she’d chosen for him.
“Elide,” he breathed, turning his happy smile to her. “This is amazing. I don’t think you had any possible way of knowing this, but Agatha Christie is my favorite author.” He held up the copy of The Labors of Hercules she’d picked out for him as he added, “and this is one of my favorite books.”
Letting out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding, Elide rocked back on her heels, smiling at the happy expression on Lorcan’s face. “I’m really glad you like it.”
“I love it, babe - I really do.”
“Okay, now it’s my turn,” she said, reaching out with her free hand to take the bag he was still holding tightly. “Let me see, let me see!”
“Yes ma’am,” he finally relented, handing over the bag and chuckling when she swore because the handles had gotten tangled, which prevented her from opening the bag right away.
Finally getting the bag opened, Elide couldn’t keep her jaw from dropping when she saw what book he’d chosen for her - The Bone Collector by Jeffrey Deaver. “Oh, Lor,” she murmured, clutching the book to her chest. “I’ve been dying to read this for so long - thank you so much!”
Taking her hand in his, Lorcan smirked down at her. “You mentioned that you’d been watching the show during lunch the other day, so I thought it seemed like a good choice.”
“It really was,” she replied, lifting his hand and pressing a kiss to the back of it. “So,” she continued, gesturing down the sidewalk, “did you have anything else planned for this date - which has been amazing so far, in case you were wondering.”
“I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself - I really like being with you, too,” he answered, pulling on her hand as he started walking. “I was thinking we could grab some coffee?”
“You mean I could grab coffee and you could get tea?” Elide giggled at her little joke, and it turned into a full-blown laugh when he nudged her with his hip. When she snuck a glance over at him, she saw that he was laughing along with her. “I’m just teasing, babes. That sounds like a great plan.”
“Anything to keep you happy, mamas.”
~*^*~
They were about three blocks away from the coffee shop when Lorcan just couldn’t help himself anymore. He had one hand wrapped around her hips, his hand tucked into the back pocket of her jeans as they walked. Her arm was wrapped around his waist, and her fingers were drifting against the skin of his hip where she had tucked them under his shirt. She was talking happily as they made their way toward their destination, and every time he caught her gaze she gave him a smile that made his heart flutter and set butterflies loose in his stomach.
He saw an alley just to her left, and, nudging her gently with his hip, he used his grip on her back pocket to spin her around and into the alley. Elide wound up with her back pressed against the brick wall of the building behind her, and Lorcan caged her in with his body.
“Hi,” he whispered, his nose brushing hers. Resting one hand on the wall by her hip, he cupped the back of her neck with his other hand.
Elide’s arms wound around his waist as she looked up at him. “Hi yourself.”
She looked like she wanted to say more, but she cut off when Lorcan’s gaze dropped down to her lips. When he flicked his eyes back up to hers, he realized she had been looking at his lips too. They stayed like that for a moment, pressed together with their gazes locked. He could feel the desire coursing through his veins, and, from the way she arched her body into his, he could tell that she was feeling the same way.
She was the one to finally break the silence. “Are you gonna kiss me or not, Salvaterre?”
Leaning in until his lips were just barely brushing hers, he murmured, “well, yes ma’am.” The words had just barely left his lips before he was kissing her, the hand that had been resting on the wall coming to encircle her waist and pull her against him. He could feel himself getting lost in the taste and feel of her, the way her lips moved against his making him feel like he was floating and falling all at once.
He groaned when he felt her hands tangle in his hair, her delicate fingers pulling on the inky strands as she kissed him harder. He’d just swept his tongue into her mouth, a mere tease of the way he truly wanted to kiss her - the way he planned to kiss her as soon as they were alone - before he pulled away, grinning down at her as he pushed himself up to his full height, chuckling as his back popped from being hunched over.
“Shit, mamas,” he started, his hands cupping the sides of her neck and his thumbs brushing over her jaw. “Kissing you is going to be the death of my back.”
Pouting her lips just enough that it somehow made them look even fuller, Elide started to turn her head away from him. “Well, if it hurts you too much, don’t do it.”
Lorcan just chuckled, using his thumb to turn her head so he could lean down to kiss her again. She kissed him back for a moment, sighing into his mouth gently before she was pulling away.
Turning her head away once again, she said, “I don’t want to hurt you.”
He gripped her jaw, trailing kisses over her cheek and jaw until he was right at the corner of her mouth. “Come here, give me those lips.”
That was all it took before she was kissing him again. He felt her rise up on her toes, and his heart swelled as he realized she was still trying to take some of the strain off his back.
When he finally pulled back, he couldn’t help but press several soft, sweet kisses to her lips before separating from her enough that he could look into her eyes. She was smiling up at him, her fingers twisting through his hair. “That,” she breathed, “was amazing, babes.”
“Likewise, mamas.”
They stayed in the alley for a few moments more, just resting against one another and enjoying being so close together. Eventually, however, Lorcan remembered that they had a date to continue, and he took her by the hand, pulling her back onto the sidewalk.
Once they were walking again, Elide slid her hand from his so she could wrap it around his waist. He couldn’t help the grin that lit up his face when she slid her hand into his back pocket. Slinging his arm around her shoulders, he leaned down to kiss the top of her head.
~*^*~
Letting her very handsome date open the door for her, Elide giggled as he inclined his head toward the coffee shop, motioning her into the building. She started to walk, but drew up short when she refused to let go of Lorcan’s hand and that grip caused her to bounce back, since he was still holding the door for her.
She turned to him with a small pout forming on her lips, tugging on his hand to make him move. He chuckled but released his grip on the door, reaching out to smooth the furrow in her brow before following her inside.
Thankfully, they’d chosen to get coffee after their shopping, so it was that perfect time of the afternoon when the coffee shop wasn’t that busy. There was only one person in front of them, so they waited for him to order, Elide leaning back against Lorcan’s chest with his arms twined around her waist. She was enjoying just being near him, listening to him hum softly to whatever song was playing on the radio, when the customer in front of them finally finished ordering.
“Hey, guys,” the barista greeted as they moved forward, “what can I get for you today?”
Lorcan squeezed her waist, which she assumed was probably his way of telling her to go first, but all it did was make her squeal quietly at the unexpectedness of it. Smacking his hand lightly, she giggled as she responded. “He’ll have a medium Earl Grey, with just a dash of milk.” A small giggle escaped her when she added, “just enough to taste, but not to change the color.”
“Brat,” he murmured, pinching her side when she turned to face him with a very satisfied smirk lighting up her face. Pulling her into his side, he turned to face the barista, who was staring at him with a patiently amused look. Chuckling slightly, Lorcan said, “And the lady will have a large cappuccino, black - nothing in it.”
Elide was laughing uncontrollably by the time he’d finished ordering, her face buried in his chest. His own laughter rumbled through his chest, and she barely heard the barista’s response as he moved off to make their drinks.
Tilting her head up so she could rest her chin on his chest, she said, “you’re pretty cute when you manage to relax - did you know that?”
“I guess it’s just easy for me to be myself around you,” he whispered, cupping her face in his hand.
Elide turned enough to press a kiss to his palm. “Oh, love. I feel like I can be myself around you too.”
“That’s good to know, mamas.” He leaned down to kiss her quickly, huffing a laugh when she frowned as he pulled away. “Let’s go get our coffee and see where this date takes us.”
~*^*~
The date ended up taking them back to Elide’s apartment. They’d both decided that they wanted to spend more time together, but they were also curious about the records and books they’d bought for one another, so they decided to head back to her place to listen to music and read. Lorcan was already into the vibe of her apartment and she hadn’t even opened the door yet. She lived in an apartment building that was built out of old shipping containers, and he could see how that played into the internal design of her apartment as soon as they were inside.
He took in the clean lines that were everywhere, accentuating the lines of the containers that had created her apartment without making it overwhelming. While the outside of the building was brightly colored, she had kept the tones in her apartment muted, and while most of the colors leaned toward the cooler end of the spectrum, there were still flares of brights in the pillows that she seemed to be stock-piling.
And there was certainly a lot of green. Elide had plants on every possible surface, from her kitchen counter to the spaces on her bookshelves to the open shelves hanging over her sink. Peeking toward her balcony, he could see even more plants out there. “Someone’s a bit of a plant mom,” he teased, gesturing to the room as a whole.
Huffing a breath through her nose, she just poked him in the arm as she set her bags on the counter. “Yes - and all my plant children love me for it.”
Lorcan chuckled at her, setting his own bags next to hers. He’d just leaned down to press his lips to her forehead when a blur of grey caught his eye. Peering over her head, he saw a sleek grey cat jump off the sofa and take several slow steps in their direction. “Looks like someone isn’t too sure of you having a guest.”
Twisting in his arms, Elide shook her head at the cat. “That’s Jello,” she started, her voice taking on a bit of an exasperated tone. “I’d tell you to go say hello, but she hates literally everyone but me, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up.” She just shook her head at Jello (who Lorcan was positive was named after the lead singer of the Dead Kennedys), grabbing her album from the bag and walking toward where her record player was sitting behind the sofa, half-hidden behind a very large spider plant.
He nodded once to show her that he’d heard her, but he didn’t take his eyes from Jello, who was watching him carefully. Crouching down, he watched as she sniffed in his direction before taking another step toward him. Apparently she’d decided he was okay, because she walked right up to him and pushed her head gently against his leg.
Holding a hand out for her to sniff, he couldn’t help but smile as she stretched a paw out toward him before she jumped onto his leg. He’d just taken her into his arms and stood back up when Elide turned back around, and the expression on her face was priceless.
“What the fuck?” she breathed, just staring at her cat, who was currently purring away in Lorcan’s arms. “She’s never liked anyone. Like, even when I got her the people were surprised that she liked me.”
“Maybe she just knows that you like me, mamas.” He stroked Jello’s head, his heart fluttering when Elide walked back over to him and dropped her head against his shoulder.
She giggled at that, pressing a kiss to his shoulder as she looked up at him. “Eh, I guess.” When he gave her an offended look, she kissed his shoulder again. “I’m only teasing, babes - you know I like you.”
“That’s good, since I like you - erm, the fuck is that?” Though he’d been about to lean down to kiss her, he stopped at the sight of the black and white creature that came walking around the corner wearing a little blue t-shirt.
Giving him a confused look, she turned to see what he was looking at - only to make a happy noise at the creature. “Oh, that’s my other cat, Jett.”
“That thing is not a cat, El.”
Elide pouted at him, her brow furrowing at his words. “Yes she is!” Stepping away from him, she leaned down to pick up Jett, the so-called cat curling into her chest and giving Lorcan a curious look over her shoulder. Walking back over to him, she turned so Lorcan could see her little face. “She’s a Sphynx cat, and she’s very sweet.”
Almost as if she’d understood her owner, Jett (who Lorcan assumed was named after Joan Jett) leaned over and licked Lorcan’s finger, giving him a look that was both sad and curious. He could feel himself melting at that look. “Oh, she’s precious,” he said, stroking her nose. “I’m sorry I said you weren’t a cat.”
Jett reached out for him, so he and Elide did some careful maneuvering until he was holding Jett and she was holding Jello. “Hi, little one,” he murmured to the cat, one hand stroking her back over the shirt. “Why is she wearing a shirt?”
Elide, who had been scratching Jello behind her ears, turned to him with a cute little grin. She leaned up in a request for a kiss, which Lorcan happily gave her before she replied. “Since Sphynx cats are hairless, they tend to get cold easily. Her shirt keeps her warm. It also protects her skin from the sun, since she doesn’t have fur to protect her.”
Turning back to face the cat, he whispered, “We can’t have you getting cold, now can we?” Leaning toward Elide to stroke Jello’s tail, he said, “It’s a good thing they have you to take such good care of them.”
“I love both of them so much - I would do anything to keep them safe,” Elide replied, gesturing with her head toward the record player. “Why don’t we grab our books and we can start listening?” When Lorcan gave both of the cats in their arms pointed looks, she added, “don’t worry, I’m sure the cats will be happy to join us.”
~*^*~
They were reading together quietly with the album he’d bought for Elide playing softly in the background, both of the cats sprawled on the couch next to them, when the song changed to “Give Her a Great Big Kiss.” It was a song that made Elide start drumming on his thigh. When he turned to give her a questioning look, she just set her book on the coffee table and stood up, taking his hand and pulling him up too.
Sighing good-naturedly, he set his book down as well and linked their hands, moving with her as she started to dance around her living room. She was laughing as they moved, and Lorcan loved the sound the more he heard it.
Lifting his hand, he spun her underneath it before pulling her into his chest. She squealed at the motion, the sound spilling into more giggles as he spun her back out and kept twirling her around. The joy on her face made him smile as well, and soon he found himself laughing with her, especially when she tried to spin him under her arm.
They laughed and danced their way through the entire song, only sitting back down when it ended and the next one started. He sat down first, and Elide all but fell into his lap, curling up so she could rest her head on his shoulder.
She leaned down to grab both of their books off the table, and he couldn’t help but tighten his arms around her waist when she sat back up, pressing a soft, slow kiss to her lips when she looked at him.
He pulled away and took his book from her hands, shooting her a very happy smile before turning back to his reading.
~*^*~
They’d been reading long enough that the album had finished, so Elide reached over the back of the sofa to change it to the one that she had bought for Lorcan. However, that meant that she had to pull her hand from Lorcan’s, since they’d ended up holding hands while they cuddled and read.
Pulling his eyes from the page in front of him, he pouted at the beautiful girl in his lap. Focused as she was on the task at hand, she didn’t notice his sad look until she’d settled back down and picked up her book. Offering him an apologetic grin, she ran her thumb over his lips before placing her hand back in his and turning her attention back to her book.
Losing himself in his book again, it took him a moment to realize that Elide was no longer reading hers. In fact, he only noticed it when he felt her fingers dancing along the skin of his neck. Glancing down, he saw that she was playing with the chain that he wore every day.
He’d just resumed reading when she pulled the dog tags out from under his shirt, the two of them clinking together gently at the motion. She began sliding them along the chain, content to sit and be close to him while he read.
They stayed like that long enough for “Poet’s Problem” to start playing, and Lorcan set his book down on the couch beside him before he stood, lifting Elide and setting her on her feet. Wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her into his chest, he began swaying to the song. She wrapped her arms around his neck, her fingers sifting through the strands of his hair as she buried her face in his chest. He dropped his chin on the top of her head, the sound of the music and the feeling of the woman in his arms making him feel a sense of peace he’d never known before.
They swayed together until the song ended, and Elide tilted her face up to his for a kiss, which he obliged. It started as gentle and soft, but it soon turned to something more. Even with Elide on her toes, he still had to bend over quite a bit, so he decided to make his life easier.
Sliding his hands under her ass, Lorcan lifted her into his arms, walking into the kitchen and setting her on the counter - which made her much closer to his height. She wrapped her legs around his waist as he kissed her harder, his tongue sweeping into her mouth as she moaned.
He groaned at the sound, his hands sliding into her hair so he could angle her head. The new angle allowed him to kiss her even harder, turning it to something that was all teeth and tongues and biting kisses.
Eventually he had to pull away to breathe, dropping his head against hers as they both fought to get their breathing under control. Her hands drifted over his arms as his fell to her thighs, and he grinned as he pressed a kiss to the tip of her nose before pulling away.
Looking into her eyes, he asked, “will you be my girl, El? You know, officially and everything?”
Though a part of him still couldn’t believe that she wanted to be here, with him, on a date, the smile she gave him showed that it was all real. “I’d love that, Lorcan - more than anything.”
They were both smiling into the kiss he pressed to her lips, and he realized he’d never been happier.

Barry had contemplated for only a split second going to a bar instead of Jitters that night he saw you with Julian. How else would he get you off his mind?
But Barry is not one to depend on alcohol. He numbs himself with his part-time internship at the CCPD Crime Lab  and TV. He goes to work. Then goes home and sits on the couch. If he’s not at his own apartment, he’s at Joe’s...doing the exact same thing, only eating better.
And through it all, through the heartbreak, sleepless nights, greasy food and poor hygiene, Barry hopes that you’re doing better. He wouldn’t want you to see him like this and he wouldn’t want you to feel like this either. At the moment all he can assume is that you are doing better.  It just kills him to know that you might be doing better because of some dude named Julian Albert.
“Have you met him?” he asks Cisco one day. The two of them are drinking beers at Barry’s apartment, watching baseball.
“Who? Julian? No.” Cisco responds after a quick sip. “I’ve heard about him through Caitlin. Says nice things but it doesn’t sound serious.”
“You didn’t see the way she was hanging on him.” Barry grimaces, rubbing his forehead with white knuckles. “He called her ‘love’ and ‘darling’. Working that British charm of his,” Barry mocks Julian’s accent and Cisco chuckles.
“Dude, he sounds dreamy.” Cisco guffaws. He dodges a pillow. “Hey man, seriously though, you two were perfect for each other. Totally into each other. If it’s meant to be, you’ll find your way back to her.”
“But at what cost?” he says it, knowing that’s exactly what you’d say as well.
“I don’t know man. I wish you’d told us about the Patty Spivot situation. Maybe me, Ronnie, and Cait could’ve stood up for you as a character witness…”
“Nah man, I wouldn’t want you guys to risk your jobs too. Y/N wouldn’t want that either.” Barry takes a deep swig from his beer and slumps deeper into the couch. “What’s done is done. I just want Y/N to be happy.”
“Yeah man, but Barry...what about you?”
Barry turns up the TV.
-----------
“What an interesting exhibit. Don’t you think, darling?” Julian asks you, squeezing your hand as the two of you walk out of the natural history museum. The doors lock behind you; you didn’t realize you’d been there so long.
“Yeah, I don’t usually go to the museum on my free time. I haven’t been to the museum since I took my kids on a field trip there. Didn’t really pay attention to the exhibits back then, I guess.”
“Of course, you were probably watching the children?”
“Yeah, lost a few of them to the T.Rex. Went right through him though.” You only offer a half smile with your joke.
Barry had been a chaperone on that field trip.
“I’d bonk you over the head, throw you over my shoulder, and take you back to my cave,” he’d teased you, his hand molding to the small of your back. You’d been standing in front of a Neanderthal display. “Barry like Y/N,” he’d grunted, nipping at the shell of your ear.
You’d laughed hard enough for tears to come to your eyes the last time you’d been at the museum.
You didn’t laugh this time.
Julian was so intelligent, reading off all exhibit panels and offering his own colorful commentary. You liked it. You really did. It’s the same experience and gives you the same thrill as when you’d watch an interesting special on History Channel or nature documentaries.
Julian laughs at your joke, like he always does. It’s not a terrible trait. You are hilarious, after all. You just miss how Barry would have his own witty comeback.
Dammit. Why do you keep comparing Julian to Barry?! You need to stop. You’re not giving Julian a proper chance and he’s really been a wonderful person to date. You could see yourself dating him for a long time. Until you get bored.
“Hey, Y/N?” Julian pulls you to a stop. “You alright? You seem preoccupied.” His hand cups your face and you lean into it.
“Yeah, I am. I’m okay,” you reassure him. “I’m just a little distracted. With the new school year starting soon and stuff…” It’s only a few weeks away.
“Of course, I understand, love. If you need help taking your decorations and supplies to your classroom, I’d happy to help.”
“I’d appreciate that,” you smile, genuinely appreciative.
“I’ve had a great time with you these last couple of weeks,” Julian starts to say.
“Yeah, me too.”
“I’m so fortunate to have seen you that day at the cafe. Most beautiful woman I’d ever seen.” He smiles as you blush, looking down from his tender gaze. “I mean it. I’m a lucky man, Y/N.” Julian starts to lean in. You pucker your lips and lightly meet his, sharing a sweet moment or two. His lips are chapped but faintly taste and smell like coconut. The tip of his tongue touches your upper lip and you briefly let him in before he pulls himself back only a few centimeters. His short blonde beard and mustache still manage to prickle your skin.
“Would you like to come home with me tonight?” he whispers. “Have some wine by the fire?” he smirks, knowing how ridiculous he sounds. He is not without a sense of humor, it’s just different, but you don’t mind. You do genuinely like him and your kisses share passion and pleasure. You lean in and kiss him again.
“Yes, I’d like that.”
------------------------------------
You take Julian up on his offer to help you move into your classroom when the end of August comes around. He’s impressed by the campus even though he’s seen the inside of far more prestigious schools; he’s even lectured at a few.
“Children going to this school must go to exceptional universities, yes?”
“I wouldn’t know. Most of my kids are five or more years away from going to college. I’ll let you know,” you giggle.
“Ah, yes. Makes sense.” Julian grins. He’s wearing a pair of jeans with his plaid button up shirt. He’s forgone his usual suit vest and tie. It’s the most dressed down you’ve seen him...in public. He wears matching pajamas to bed. “Do you get moved around often? Or are you usually in this wing of the school?”
“The electives move around more,” you give as an answer.
“That Barry chap I met a while back? What about him? Thought I might drop by and see his room. Forensic science is a fascinating subject to be offered at a grade school.”
It’s the one detail you’d been trying to avoid. When the room assignments had been distributed, you’d checked for Caitlin and Ronnie and even Cisco but you’d tried your damndest to avoid checking for Barry’s name.
“Not really sure,” you shrug. “He used to be a substitute but he’s full time now. Not sure where they’d put him.”
“Oh well. Some other time. He seemed pleasant.”
Julian must remember their introduction quite differently.
The two of you take a short break after unpacking and decorating the room to give Julian a more thorough tour. You’re surprised to experience some pride as Julian expresses his impressions. His eyes are providing a fresh perspective of Central City Academy and you’re commitment to the school is renewed.
You love your job. You love your classroom. You love your kids. You love the faculty.
That might just include the man with green eyes crossing the courtyard with Cisco Ramon by his side. By a mere coincidence, they’re heading straight in your direction.
“Ah, Mr. Allen! How are you?” Julian greets Barry with a handshake and introduces himself to Cisco. Julian doesn’t seem to notice you avoiding eye contact with Barry.
This isn’t awkward. No, not at all.

You flushed lightly, feeling your skin become clammy from your mounting anxiety. Tears brimmed your eyes as you ran out of Jitters, ignoring the calls from Cisco and Caitlin.
Oh, God, you were gonna throw up. You couldn’t do this.
As the memories flashed in your head, so did the anger you had felt for so long. It just bubbled to the surface and you felt like you were going burst so you went to the one place where you could safely take out your frustrations without accidentally hurting anyone else.
S.T.A.R Labs.
As soon as you entered S.T.A.R Labs, you walked straight to your training room, discarded the shirt you had over your sports bra and exchanged your jeans for workout pants.
Without donning your gloves, you began to punch your training bag. With each punch, came another flashback and as you hit harder and faster, you imagined that you were beating each and every ARGUS agent that tortured you.
You continued to punch the bag, whilst also regularly switching to striking the bag with your knee or elbow. You felt the sweat beading on your skin and your knuckles burn slightly due to the lack of protective gear and you were training harder than you ever had before.
About 35 minutes into your workout, Caitlin and Cisco found you as you practised your hook punches and upper cuts.
“There you are. We ran after you but you had already disappeared from sight.”
Cisco explained as they both walked up beside you.
“We thought you went back to your apartment and then decided to come here.”
He continued as you carried on punching the bag.
“What happened, y/n?” Caitlin asked but you didn’t reply as tears began to fill your eyes again.
“Y/n, stop. You’re not wearing gloves.” Caitlin warned but you didn’t listen.
“Y/n, stop!”
Both Cisco and Caitlin shouted, trying to get you to relent from hitting the bag.
“What?!” You shouted back, as you stopped punching the bag.
“I-I’m sorry.”
You said when the two stepped back with concern written on their faces.
“I just can’t do this right now.”
You picked up your towel and cleaned the sweat off of your face whilst you steadied your breathing.
“Do what?”
“It doesn’t matter,” you said, about to walk away before being stopped by the duo.
“Talk to us.”
“We’re your friends.” They pleaded.
“Y/n, your hands.”
Caitlin commented, looking at your hands as you did the same. Your knuckles were red and bruised.
Caitlin grabbed your wrist and took you to the med bay in the cortex as Cisco followed. You sat down on the edge of the bed in silence as Caitlin cleaned your hands with antiseptic and then bandaged your hands up.
The antiseptic stung but it was a nice distraction from the pain you felt inside. Once she had finished, she and Cisco looked at you, waiting for an explanation.
“Why did you run out like that, y/n?” Caitlin asked, concerned.
A betraying tear fell from your eye and you quickly brushed it away in anger.
“What’s wrong?”
You exhaled a deep breath before speaking,
“ARGUS. ARGUS is what’s wrong.”
They looked at you in confusion.
“ARGUS is the reason why I am the way I am. The reason metas are persecuted, tortured and killed. ARGUS is the agency.”
Their confusion soon turned into looks of horror and shock.
“What?”
“Are you sure?”
“Caitlin, I’m sure. I can never forget.”
“ARGUS are the reason why you have those scars on your back. They’re the one’s who hurt you. I can’t believe this.”
“Well, believe it, Cisco. It’s the truth.”
“But ARGUS are the good guys. Lyla’s ARGUS.”
You knew who Lyla was, she was Diggle’s wife, but was so much more. She, by far, sounded like one of the most badass people you’d ever know.
The fact that she was an ARGUS agent surprised you; you just thought she was ex-military.
Despite never physically meeting Lyla, you knew she would never stand for the future persecution of metas, leading you to believe that there might be others like her. Some ARGUS agents who were righteous and fought to protect everyone, including metas. You reasoned with yourself and let logic take over.
“Look, I shouldn’t have said anything. It’s just that when Felicity mentioned it, everything came rushing back and I just needed to get out of there.”
“No, I’m glad you said something. I’m sorry you felt like you couldn’t tell us.”
“It’s not that, Cait. I knew that telling you could affect the future and I didn’t want to risk that.”
“Not even if you speaking out could potentially mean ARGUS not turning bad?” Cisco asked.
“No. As much as I’d love to, there’s too many variables involved and who knows what I could inadvertently change in the process. At least when I was Renegade, I was helping other metas so they didn’t have to go through what I went through. And I’d go through it all a thousand times before letting anyone else experience that same pain. Look, I’m sorry for not telling you. You guys are my best friends, my family, and I should’ve told you.”
“It’s okay. We know now.” Caitlin said, giving you a hug as Cisco did the same.
“Guys, we have a situation.”
You all pulled away and turned to look at Barry who stood in the cortex, then you all went to join him.
“What happened?” Barry asked, looking at your bandaged hands.
“I’ll explain later. What’s up?”
At that moment, Harrison Wells walked into the cortex, shocking you, Caitlin and Cisco. You quickly grabbed your backup gun from the table and aimed it at the man.
“Woah, y/n, wait.” Barry shouted as Caitlin and Cisco began spouting their shock and confusion.
“Guys, it’s okay. Y/n, lower your gun.”
You reluctantly complied.
“Dr. Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon, Y/n Davis, meet Dr. Harrison Wells from Earth-2.”
***
After introducing himself and almost getting shot by Joe, you learned that he came to Earth-1 to to help Barry defeat Zoom. You were all apprehensive to Wells, believing him to be exactly like Earth-1 Harrison Wells.
But he did prove to be useful.
After the Flash encountered a woman who used a blast of light energy to injure people at Central City Bank, Dr Wells explained that Doctor Light was from his Earth and used to be a small time thief but insisted that she was not a killer.
So now you and the Flash decided to team up to fight this Doctor Light as she broke into a bank vault. You were about to capture her when Barry paused and realised that he knew her Earth-1 counterpart. This moment of surprise allowed the meta to blind the Flash and knock you against the wall before escaping.
“You’re lucky you’re not permanently blind. But with your rapid regeneration abilities, your sight should return soon.” Caitlin explained, clicking off the light she used to examine Barry’s eyes.
“And y/n, you’ll probably have a large bruise for a few weeks, but other than that, your back’s fine.” Caitlin said, checking the bandage she had wrapped around your chest.
“All this could have been avoided if you just stopped Light instead of chitchatting with her.” Wells reprimanded.
“She caught Barry off guard.”
“And what about Davis? She didn’t know her. So why didn’t she do anything?”
You stood up, about to get in his face before being held back by Caitlin and Barry.
“Hey, don’t blame her. We had a game plan and I hesitated so she couldn’t carry out her half of the plan.” Barry said, defending you.
“Always an excuse with you, right? You’re supposed to be the fastest man alive and Davis here is supposed to be some badass fighter/meta, yet she was as distracted as you.”
Your jaw clenched and you pushed past Wells and stormed out of the cortex.
“Now look what you did. This is why I don’t like you.” Cisco said, before running after you.
He found you sitting in his lab, your head laying on the table.
“Hey.”
“I’m sorry, I’ll go.”
“No, stay. I prefer you being here than Wells.”
“That guy’s a douche.”
“He is. Don’t listen to what he said.”
“But he’s right. I was distracted. I have been since yesterday. I’m no help like this. Look what happened to Barry.”
“That’s not your fault, y/n.”
“But it is. I was distracted and I didn’t help Barry when he needed it and now he can’t see. And he’s got a date later as well. Oh, God.” You said, putting your head on the table again.
“Y/n.” You looked up at Cisco. “I’ve also been distracted.”
“What do you mean?”
“If you can tell us about ARGUS and what happened, I can be strong enough to tell you this.”
“Tell me what, Cisco?”
“I’m a meta.”
“What?”
“At least I think I am. For the past few months, I’ve been seeing things. It’s like I get a vibe, and then a vision of something that’s already happened, and then it’s gone.”
“So, that’s how you knew where to find Patty when she was kidnapped by the Sand Demon.” He nodded.
“You don’t seem too happy about your newfound ability.” You commented.
“Dr Wells, the dead one, gave me this power, and he was evil.”
“Cisco, you’re not Wells. Wells was an evil son of a bitch. But you, Cisco Ramon, are one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. You’re one of my best friends. My family. I know for a fact that there’s not one evil bone in your body.”
“I’m just scared. That’s why I’m telling you. You must have been scared when you got your powers too.”
“Of course I was. I felt like a completely different person. And believe it or not, I used to think I would turn out evil because the people who gave me my powers were evil. But I was wrong. My powers are one of the best things that has ever happened to me.”
“You’re not like Wells, Cisco. You can use your powers for good. You can help people. You’re a hero, not a villain.”
“Thank you.” Cisco breathed a sigh of relief and hugged you.
“Hey, Cisco. Oh, sorry. Are you guys okay?” Iris stumbled through Cisco’s lab.
“Yeah, what’s up?”
“I need your help.”
***
Iris asked you and Cisco to be Barry’s eyes for his date with Patty and suffice to say, it did not go well. After a few mishaps, Patty explained that she knew Barry couldn’t see her so you and Cisco abandoned your duties and let them have their date whilst you two ate Chinese takeaway.
Then you were interrupted by calls about an attack on Picture News and after Barry returned to S.T.A.R Labs, Wells and Jay got into an argument about Zoom.
“Zoom would have killed me just like he will kill Barry if you lead him down this path!” Jay shouted.
“No, because he is not like you. Barry runs towards danger, not from it, because Barry’s not a coward.”
Wells spat out and then Jay punched him, knocking him onto the desk where you worked. You and Caitlin gasped in shock and when Wells punched Jay back, you ran in between the two of them.
“Enough!”
They both moved closer to you, as if trying to hit each other again.
“You’re both acting like children and if either of you try and hit each other again, you’ll deal with me and I’ve had one hell of a day so I suggest you don’t try me.”
“Oh, really? And what will-”
Wells started, moving even closer towards you before you grabbed his hand and pulled it behind his back, pushing him back into the desk.
“I said, enough.” You repeated, releasing his arm.
After you broke up the fight, Barry asked how he could find Doctor Light. As you were about to respond, Wells interjected.
“All we have to do is give this mask to him.”
“Why me?” Cisco asked.
“Because you have powers.”
You and Cisco looked at each other and then back at Wells. Wells explained that he had developed a watch to detect meta-humans and used it to confirm that Cisco was a meta.
“Cisco, have you known about this, and you didn’t say anything to us?” Barry asked, hurt lacing his tone.
“Yeah, I was gonna tell you. Thanks a lot, Harry.” Cisco replied. “I swear I was, but I didn’t. I was-I was just afraid.”
“Afraid of what?”
“Dr Wells said the dark matter gave me this, this gift. He said that one day I’d thank him for it. What if I become like him?”
“Cisco, I don’t think any of us would become evil if we all of a sudden got powers, even if they were from Dr. Wells. Look at y/n, she got powers unexpectedly and she’s nowhere near evil.” Caitlin said.
Cisco looked at you and you raised your eyebrows in an “I told you” look.
“Cisco, like I said, there’s not one evil bone in your body. You could never be like Wells.”
“Wait, you knew about his powers?” Caitlin asked.
“I literally only just found out. He only told me because of the…stuff that happened earlier.” You replied, then Barry looked at you and Caitlin confused.
“Wait, what secrets are you keeping?”
You sighed, “It’s not the time.”
“Cisco just told us about his powers, so it’s as good a time as any.” Barry countered.
You looked at Caitlin and Cisco and they just gave you a nod of encouragement.
“ARGUS are the ones who gave me my powers. They’re the ones persecuting and experimenting on metas in the future.”
“What? But ARGUS-“
“Yeah, yeah. They’re the good ones. Caitlin and Cisco told me this earlier. Well, the fact of the matter is, they’re not good in the future. And look, Cisco and I are sorry for not telling you our secrets but honestly, we don’t have time for questions right now.”
“Davis is right. We have to use Ramon’s powers to find Doctor Light.”
After persistence from Harry, Cisco was able to get a vibe of Doctor Light so he sent you and Barry to the train station to fight her.
Whilst you evacuated the platform, Barry fought Doctor Light and was able to knock her out so she was now imprisoned in the pipeline and explained that he planned to use to her lure Zoom to Earth-1 and end this.
“You may be faster than me, Barry, but you’re not ready to fight Zoom by yourself.” Jay stated.
“That’s just it, Jay. I’m not gonna fight him by myself. I’ve got all of them to help me.” He said, looking around at all of you in the cortex.
“I’ve got Dr. Wells. I’ve got you.”
“No, I can’t, in good conscience, help you when I know it’ll only lead you to losing your speed, or even worse, your death.” Jay refused and before leaving, he told you all that none of you could trust Wells.
***
After Jay left, you all decided to go to Jitters where you were all discussing ARGUS.
“I still can’t believe ARGUS turns evil.” Barry said in disbelief.
“They may be good now but they certainly aren’t in the future.” You responded.
“But, look, I’ve been thinking. Lyla’s ARGUS, or at least she was, and she’s a good person. So maybe there’s others like her.”
“Yeah, that’s true. I mean, technically speaking, your past is our future. And you never know, maybe we might be able to change the future without any blowback.”
“Yeah, I suppose.”
You looked at Caitlin, “You okay, Cait?”
“I suppose, I was just getting used to Jay being a part of the team.”
“Well, look, Jay’s a hero. They always seem to show up when you need them.” Barry reasoned as Cisco walked back to you guys with four Flashes.
“Yo, peep that.”
He showed you his receipt that had the barista’s, who was called Kendra, phone number on it. You all congratulated him.
“Things are looking up for Cisco Ramon.”
“I guess so. Still stuck with these powers, though. Just don’t know how I feel about them.”
“Hey, look, you don’t gotta go through it alone.” Barry said.
“And now you need a cool name.”
“Oh snap! You’re totally right. I gotta think about this one. Well, you know me. It’s gotta be perfect. Something that really sings, you know? Something like-”
“Vibe?”
You interrupted and Cisco looked at you.
“Vibe.”
Looks like there’s a new hero in town.

What Have They Lost? 1/?
My Writing Fandom: Arrow, The Flash Characters: Barry Allen, Iris West, Laurel Lance, Oliver Queen, Connor Hawke, Cisco Ramon, Ted Grant Pairings: Barry Allen/Iris West, Laurel Lance/Oliver Queen Summary: "I can definitely tell you that there’s a way we’re going to bring [Laurel] back and she’s going to be alive and well. And Flashpoint might have a little bit to do with that." -Wendy Mericle AKA: The AU where that wasn't a blatant lie, and Flashpoint has bigger repercussions for Barry's friends and allies than he first realized. Notes: So, probably not wise to start yet another WIP without finishing the one I have going but...I got really excited about this idea and wanted to see what people thought. If this is continued (which I hope to do so), things may get a little confusing as certain characters will be going by different (more comic book accurate) names, but I'll do my best to make that clear when introducing them. There are characters referenced in this chapter who will have a bigger role going forward, and when that happens I will add their character tags. Similarly, if some characters haven't been mentioned at all yet, that doesn't mean they won't be in the story. Their character tags will be added later, too. Much thanks to @colorofmymindposts for beta-ing this chapter and helping me restructure some things. It's a much better beginning as a result. Title is pulled directly from a line in DC Rebirth by Geoff Johns while song titles and lyrics were pulled from both the Black Canary solo book and Green Arrow Rebirth, and I make no claim of owning any of them. I hope you all enjoy and let me know your initial impressions! *Also can be read on my AO3*
Barry felt that, all things considered, life was treating him fairly well lately.
Of course, he’d had to fix the mistake he’d made going back in time to save his mother, and even now there were consequences from that. The team hadn’t been happy to learn that truth, and he worried his and Cisco’s friendship would never again be quite what it was. There were things that had resulted from his meddling that he would always feel guilt over.
But not this. Not him and Iris. Despite an awkward first attempt at a date and the second getting interrupted as well, they were falling into a better pattern now as a couple.
She found him in his lab one late morning while Julian was out at a crime scene, so they had the space to themselves for a bit. Iris wrapped her arms around his middle from behind and placed her chin on his shoulder, though he doubted it was to see the spectrometer he was working with.
“Any plans for tonight?”
Barry shook his head. “Nothing specific. You know, just,” he waved a hand to indicate general Flash stuff, which Iris understood with no trouble.
“Think you could take a break for one night?”
Barry raised an eyebrow. “Why?”
“Because I got concert tickets and I want you to go with me.”
A concert? That wasn’t usually his scene. “How’d you get them?”
“Daria in Arts and Entertainment gets sent them sometimes and she can’t make tonight work, so she offered them to me.”
Daria in Arts and Entertainment? That probably meant this was some kind of pop thing, didn’t it? Barry’s face scrunched up.
“I don’t know, Iris…”
“Bear, come on.” She squeezed him tight for a moment before letting go and taking a couple steps back. “It’s Birds of Prey!”
“Am I supposed to know them?”
“They’ve only been my favorite band since college, so I would hope so,” she remarked, and Barry turned around with a frown. He could have sworn Iris always said she liked the pop star Cassidy best. “They do some slow stuff, too. I know how you like your jazz,” Iris added  with an indulgent roll of the eyes. “So are you in or out?”
He knew Iris still wanted to do some normal couple stuff as well as more extravagant dates. And if she was happy, Barry was sure he could put up with some music that might not be his taste.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m in. It’ll be fun.”
“Great.” Iris leaned in and pecked him on the lips. “Gotta head back to work, but I will see you later for our date. I’ll text you the details.”
“Okay.” Barry watched her go, his smile falling off his face as she disappeared down the stairs. If this was Iris’ favorite band, he was going to have to do some research.
He went to his computer and searched the name Birds of Prey, only finding articles about a band and their lead singer, a woman only known as Dinah.
“Triumphant return to Central City after particle accelerator accident,” he read aloud to himself from the bit of preview text from one article. What did that mean? And why did the name Dinah sound oddly familiar to him?
A knock on his lab door called his attention, and he was busy the rest of the afternoon with casework, even with Julian’s added assistance. Rather than resume his internet search after his shift ended, Barry decided to pursue a different avenue of inquiry.
Cisco was present when he rushed into STAR Labs. His friend barely looked up from the computer monitor he’d been studying.
“Cisco, hey, what do you know about Birds of Prey?”
That question caught the engineer’s attention. “Uh, you mean one of the greatest musical groups of our time?”
“Yeah. Sure.” How did everybody already know this band besides him?
“They’re stopping here on their comeback tour. I think it’s tonight, isn’t it? I missed the online bid for tickets.”
“Iris got two from her coworker, so we’re going tonight,” Barry revealed.
Cisco groaned. “Lucky. I only saw Dinah live once, back when she was doing open mic nights around colleges, you know?” Cisco’s gaze got a faraway look. “I had a poster of her on my wall all through grad school. I’d give anything for a picture with her.”
“Well, I can’t promise that, but I can try and get you a picture of just her.” Barry checked his phone. “I’ve got to meet Iris at the house.”
“Yeah, have a good night.”
“You, too.” It hadn’t been perfect, but Cisco had at least been willing to open up to him about some topic, even if it was one that made little sense to Barry.
He arrived home and changed quickly into clothes better suited for a concert. Iris already had the keys to the car, so she drove them over rather than him running them. They parked on the street near the venue and joined a fast-growing line to get in.
“So, everybody keeps calling this the comeback tour,” Barry began. “What’re they coming back from?”
“You really didn’t hear?” When he shook his head, Iris continued, “They were performing on stage the night of the particle accelerator explosion.”
“And there was an accident,” he said, repeating what he had read before.
“Yeah, the sound equipment and everything, you know? I mean, the band manager got them all off the stage before anyone got too hurt, but there were all kinds of rumors about Dinah’s voice being damaged or the trauma being too much to let her go back on stage.”
“Wow,” was all Barry could come up with.
“Yeah. But, she got back in the game. This is their last stop on the tour, at least for now. People are wondering if they might go international next.”
They had passed through the doors and now were too busy looking for their seats to talk. They weren’t right in the front row, but Arts and Entertainment writers were clearly given a good spot, probably in hopes the review would be better.
The lights dimmed, and a voice came over the systems. “Central City, here tonight is the band that needs no introduction. This is...Birds of Prey!”
The obligatory fog machine obscured things as the musicians all got into place. He counted two redheads and a woman with hair so dark it almost bordered on black. Nothing about them seemed to stand out in his memory.
But he didn’t need the large screens on either side to tell who the woman was that strode confidently downstage to the mic in the center. Even if it should have been impossible.
“Laurel?”
The crowd was too loud around them, and Iris was busy with cheering and didn’t hear him or see his distress.
How could it be possible? He still remembered standing in front of Laurel’s grave, watching as Oliver tried to hold back the anguish that had been in the wet sheen of his eyes and the deep lines of his face. He didn’t think he could ever forget that look. It hadn’t just been Barry’s team who’d loved her.
And yet she was standing above him on a stage, so alive.
“Hello, Central City! It is good to be back.” Laurel paused to let the cheers subside. “I wanted to make sure we stopped here on tour. Had a bit of a fight for it. You can ask Ted.”
Iris leaned over to tell him, “Ted’s the band manager. He’s practically a father to her.”
“He is?” Who was Ted? Where was Captain Lance?
Iris nodded but gave him a second look. “You okay?”
He felt incredibly faint, actually, but there was no time to explain anything to Iris. There were people all around them and Laurel was speaking again.
“But Ted agreed, because we don’t walk away from things. Right, Central City?”
Laurel paused again for cheers. Someone out in the crowd shouted a, “We love you!”
“I love you, too!” She replied with a beautiful smile. “No matter how many times we get knocked down, we get back up. So let’s get up and get things started!”
She motioned back to the band, and the dark brunette hit her drumsticks together four times before the rest of the music started up. People were already on their feet, and Barry stood as well to see better. Now that he was over the shock he started taking more of her appearance in. There was still her blonde hair cascading down her back, but that was about where the similarities ended in how this Laurel styled herself. She had on a blue tank top, ripped up jean shorts, and fishnet leggings on under those. Fishnets!
Was it Siren? Was this all just some trick? And yet even as he thought that it made little sense. Iris’ favorite band since college, Cisco’s poster in grad school...somehow, Laurel Lance had been a member of this band for years.
But she’d been a hero. They all knew that. Or they had.
The song they were performing now seemed to be called Fish Out of Water, judging by the chorus. Barry could relate to that feeling. Then it hit him that Laurel actually had a really good voice. He’d never known that about her, whether it had even been true before...all this.
Because it was dawning on him what this was. Just like the changes that had occurred to his friends’ loved ones because of his meddling, the only explanation for Laurel not only being alive but drastically different than he remembered was the timeline being altered. But how could he have missed this?
If this much was different, what else had changed in Star City? He’d spoken to Felicity briefly since returning to this timeline and realized John now had twins instead of a daughter, but what about Oliver? Were he and the others okay?
“I’m gonna slow things down a bit,” Laurel was saying. “Even if I know you guys like things fast around here.”
Iris nudged him in the side with a big grin. It faded as he looked at her, though. “Seriously, Bear, you okay?”
“It can wait.” Now wasn’t the time or place to get into it. He wasn’t even sure how to explain to Iris that a woman she had never met but admired was now still a woman she had never met but admired just in a different way.
“If ya broke the wings of a blackbird, baby...it’s a joke to think she’ll look backward, baby,” Laurel sang. She looked...sad, somehow. Not in an obvious way. The confidence was still there, but it was like something was missing. And Barry thought he knew what it was.
His mind raced as the band closed out with another louder number to get people cheering right at the end.
“How do you feel about pretending to be from Arts and Entertainment?” He asked at more of a shout in Iris’ ear to be heard.
She raised both eyebrows. “What do you mean?”
Barry ran instead, back to her office at Central City Picture News to grab a camera and a couple of press passes. When he reappeared at her side, she blinked in surprise.
“Barry—”
“It’s kind of important that we talk to her. I’ll explain on the way home.”
Iris looked unsure, but she nodded, trusting him. Barry felt a boost of confidence at that; the rest of his teammates weren’t that willing to trust in his ability these days.
They made their way backstage with the passes and waited as Laurel and the others exited the stage. Barry felt a little stunned to watch her approach this close despite seeing her up on the stage. She was real and alive and a part of him wanted to rush forward and hug her — but that would probably get them kicked out.
There were a few lucky fans with special passes there, too, and he watched as the woman and sometimes-teammate he’d known signed autographs and took selfies with them. He snapped a couple of pictures with the camera he’d borrowed for appearance’s sake.
“Great show tonight, Dinah,” Iris called out to get her attention. She held out her hand when the other woman approached. “I’m Iris West with Central City Picture News. Huge fan, really.”
“Thanks for coming out,” said Laurel, her eyes only briefly passing over Barry, and it was so strange not seeing even a hint of recognition there. Had they never met in this timeline? What did this mean about whether she knew the others?
“So what’s next for the band?” He asked. “International, somewhere else in the states? Star City, maybe? It’s our, uh, sister city,” Barry added when both Laurel and Iris gave him odd looks.
“Funny you should say that. We’ll be taking some time off in Star, yeah. Ted and me, anyway. The other girls are stopping home in Gotham, but Ted’s got a place there.” She nodded back towards an older man with flecks of gray in his hair and a few lines in a deeply tanned face.
“Great,” said Barry.
“Your new song, Blackbird. It’s really good, and the lyrics, uh, what’s the story behind that?” Iris asked. Barry knew he’d put her on the spot and that this style of interview wasn’t exactly her specialty. He thought she was doing a great job, though.
Laurel shrugged. “I’ve had a lot of false starts in life. A lot of things I’ve had to walk away from. You learn to live with it.” She glanced over at Ted again who made some kind of motion. “Listen, there’s a girl scheduled to meet me in the green room, so if we could wrap this up?”
“Yeah, absolutely. I’ll message your people if I think of anything else to ask,” Iris said quickly. “Thanks so much for your time.”
“Yeah, thanks Lau— uh, Dinah,” Barry remembered at the last second. Her eyes jumped to his with a sharp look.
“Yeah. You too.” Laurel said quietly. She turned and walked away, glancing back at them over her shoulder once.
“So what was that actually about?” Iris asked in his ear. Barry gave a start and looked away from the hallway Laurel had disappeared down. They went through a side exit and started the walk back to the car.
“I know her. Or knew her. Um, before I changed the timeline.”
Iris’ eyes widened. “Really? How?”
“She wasn’t a singer. She was the Black Canary. A hero, part of Oliver’s team. She died last spring—” Iris stopped in her tracks, expression one of alarm. Barry reached for her hand to keep her moving down the sidewalk. “—or she did in that timeline. I don’t know how this happened.”
Iris was quiet for a few moments, processing the information. “Well, at least she’s here in this timeline?”
“Yeah, but,” Barry began. He shrugged. “It’s so different. She doesn’t even go by the same name!”
He remembered seeing Dinah on the gravestone, only then realizing they’d all been calling her by her middle name the whole time. What made a person decide to change names? How far back did this divergence from the timeline go?
Iris was frowning, discomfort showing on her features. She had defended his actions in changing things to the rest of the team, but was this a step too far? What did she think of him now? “Well, Bear, I think you’re just going to have to leave this be,” she said eventually. “It’s too late to change things.”
“I know. I just — I need to check on the others in Star, okay? Just so I know what’s been going on if we ever have to team up sometime.”
“Okay.” Iris let him go with a kiss, and then Barry was off running again, first to get his suit and then to Star City.
What was Team Arrow like without a Black Canary? What was Oliver like? He didn’t know too much about the other man’s relationship with Laurel, but they’d obviously been close judging by how affected he’d been at the funeral. What would Barry be like without one of his teammates? He couldn’t even imagine it.
He entered the cave and stopped, calling out to make sure the space wasn’t as empty as it appeared. “Hey, Ollie, you in? Really need to talk to — woah!”
Barry didn’t quite dodge out of the way of two arrows connected by a wire that shot out and pinned him to the wall behind him.
A young man, teenager really, with blonde hair and dark skin emerged from behind a support beam. He carried a bow and quiver of arrows and was grinning as he approached. “Gotta watch your surroundings better, Flash.”
“Connor,” said a familiar voice, the tone only slightly warning.
“I’m only messing, dad,” said the teenager to Oliver as the older man approached. Barry felt his mouth drop open. Since when did Oliver have a second son?
Oliver himself seemed different, somehow, in ways that were hard to define. The stubble he usually had could more accurately be called a goatee, and there were lines in his face that Barry could have sworn hadn’t been there. But he didn’t look as abjectly miserable as the last time Barry had seen him.
“What’s going on, Barry?”
He decided to just cut to the chase. “What do you know about Dinah Laurel Lance?”
Oliver’s face scrunched up. He frowned, though it was more in confusion than anything else. Then the worst possible answer left his lips.
“Who?”
