To the people saying "Jason wouldn't have jumped into tartarus for Piper, like Percy did for Annabeth" as a way to demean him. How do people do OCs, I can never get them to click properly

#i think i’m holding back too much the idea is there in my head #but when i’m drawing i’m conscious that i might want to share this stuff at some point so the whole time i’m thinking #about making a good design and i don’t want to give them anything vaguely similar to anyone else’s oc because i don’t want to step on toes #so they end up barely a visage of what i want to be creating #idkkk #the idea i have in my head is an oc who’s a horse girl LMAO their companion is a fathier who they have a very strong inseparable bond with #i am a lifelong horse person and i grew up reading pony club secrets and watching stuff like flicka so i feel like i can bring #something personal to that concept #but i don’t want them to be a mando. i don’t know much about mando culture and i cba to learn so that was the one i did not want hem to be #and yet. i can only imagine them with mandalorian armour #they’re the same species as dryden vos. there’s next to no lore on his species and they’re non human in a way that’s easy to draw #so i can just make stuff up and not be constrained by canon #them being near human is also relevant to their story. they spent a lot of time around humans and they’re close enough to human to get by #but not human enough that there’s something off. they don’t quite fit in and they always felt on the outside looking in #hence why they prefer the company of animals #maybe i’ll have them formerly working in fathier racing but that might be too projecty #this is so rambly i apologise i’ve been very talkative on here recently #ohh this is very off the cuff but maybe they’re the child of loyal mandalorians but never really subscribed to it themselves #having spent a lot of time around fathiers also meant they spent less time around mandalorians. so despite technically being mando #and wearing the armour they don’t really identify very strongly as a mandalorian

okok so. this car is for you. i remember you mentioning that u like characters who are competent / good advice-givers / surrounded by idiots but arent leaders themselves, and this is jeeves in spades teeheee...

he and bertie wooster are from the series by P. G. Wodehouse set in the 1920s-1930s about this well-meaning dorky guy who keeps getting into trouble (thats bertie) and his amazingly competent valet (jeeves!!!!) - and their dynamic is amazing. it's a little more lighthearted than sheo/haskill or butler/craftsman i think but you may still like it :D

jeeves is so much more competent and intelligent than bertie but always has bertie's best interests at heart. they still have little spats over silly things, like bertie's ugly ties, so jeeves gets to have his prissy little "very good sir 😒" moments <33

the books (all free on Gutenberg) can be read in any order and the tv show episodes (all on Youtube) can be watched in any order :] so u can jump around to see what u like, but if i were to recommend a specific place to begin, it would be this wonderfully-edited video that sums up their dynamic, so u can see if it might be up ur alley:

Thank you for the kind words and inspiring thoughts.

Despite, as you noted correctly, being fascinated by cats, I am not that fond of most domestic animals, and my liking for cats is simply an amusing exception. However, there are still some species that I could call charming and interesting in ways different from keeping them as pets.

The first animal that came to mind was a graceful black panther. Ever since I was a kid, I thought of panthers as majestic, powerful guardians, trustworthy leaders, and dangerous vigilantes. They might not represent justice in the traditional sense of court cases and hour-long debates, but if one crosses their road, they should be wary of seeing their eyes shine in the dark when the night falls.

On the other hand, I could never resist swift, elegant antelopes' beauty. As someone who has always strived for success and improvement, their efortless endurance and resilience resonated with me; antelopes are in a constant state of action, awareness, and searching for new paths, opportunities. For me, they are a symbol of motivation and energy.

As my final point, I would like to mention swans. Even though they are often depicted as an embodiment of love, from swan figurines being placed on wedding cakes to towel swans on hotel beds, these birds have always struck me as an exquisite representation of change. On another note, the concept of a swan song has captivated me ever since I learned what the expression meant. It is impossible to deny that I spent hours considering what my swan song could possibly be, and to tell the truth, I still think about it from time to time.

Unfortunately, I do not have a strong stance on reptiles. They are the most beautiful when admired from afar, and their quiet deadliness amazes me; snakes in particular have been painted as villains since the beginning of time, so despite me condemning the demonization of reptiles, I understand why people have those... preconcieved notions about them.

Keeping rodents and other smaller animals as pets does not make much sense to me. For me, it would be impossible to love something that is barely capable of communicating its needs. These fluff balls always seemed closer to decor than to actual companions.

As for fish, I would not say that a certain someone you mentioned has enough influence over me to make me actively dislike fish. Marine species look magnificent in acquariums when the interior is done right, and personally, I do not mind fish... served with a tasteful side dish, that is.

I know in my bones that Jon would have been a mama's boy, the biggest mama's boy actually, had Cat accepted him as her own. I just feel it deep within my soul, that boy would be attached to her at the hip, always holding her hand or leaning into her or latching onto her like a little leech (affectionate), and god forbid someone try and mess with her, oh lordy you better run. and honestly the other way around too, don't mess with Mama Cat or her kids.

Yknow what I like doing. Not taking things too seriously, especially my interests, and ESPECIALLY my interests in complex and “problematic” characters . Of course it’s important to be aware of themes and intentional/unintentional messaging that comes with “bad characters that do or represent bad things” (this is where media critique and understanding how media literacy works, forming opinions for yourself and doing research, etc)

But I also like turning problematic characters around in my hands and thinking. “In another world, you could be different. You could be better. You are so close to making the final stretch, but whoever created you decided that wasn’t in the cards for you. I want to see that world. One where you are better. It fascinates me.” And guess what? The creation of that new world in my brain does not negate who that character is from the source material. And I do it anyway!! Because it is fun!!

I think every character that we absorb into our minds never arrives whole. We copy and paste them into our brains, and consciously or unconsciously change them in ways we see fit. They all come with flaws and baggage that can be glaringly clear or not obvious on the surface. Hot take, but I think if you enjoy a character and want to experience them without the stuff you don’t like, it will immensely bump up your enjoyment to take some scissors and trim it right off in your brain. That’s what AUs and headcanons and shit are for!!

Idk I just think that not having such a tight leash regarding the imperfections and flaws of characters will boost everyone’s enjoyment of liking characters by a million percent (plus. The characters. Are not real. They don’t exist they are tools to tell a story, no different than tropes or props not actual people— it doesn’t matter if you call them your poor little meow meow.)

Have this scenario in my head where—during a mission or just general down time— a Centurion (one of X2’s robot soldiers) comes up to Aspen and says they have this top secret message for her, and it’s just. A list of all the stuff X2 likes (food, favorite restaurants, flowers, etc.)

Aspen, playing dumb: What’s all this soldier?

The Centurion, being tired of their will-they-won’t-they-go-on-a-date is just like, “Material to woo the Commander. You seem to having trouble with that.”

Later, maybe on a mission she comments to X2 something like, “Your robots like to be wise guys, don’t they?”

X2, who has probably also gotten a list about her likes from his Centurions because they’re tired of him also not making any moves: Oh, don’t I know.
