You hadn't seen Loki in months, not since he left Asgard to explore the Nine Realms. At first, you didn't think much of it. After all, he had always been restless, eager to see new things and go on adventures. But then, your children started asking for him.
“Mummy, when is Daddy coming home?” your daughter, Freya, asked one evening as you tucked her into bed.
You sighed. “I don't know, sweetheart. He's still out exploring.”
“But I miss him,” Freya pouted.
“I know, I miss him too,” you admitted, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. “But he'll be back soon, I promise.”
Days turned into weeks, and still there was no sign of Loki. Your children grew more and more restless, and you started to worry. What if something had happened to him?
One day, as you were putting your six-month-old son, Magnus, down for a nap, you heard a knock at the door. It was Thor.
“Thor! What brings you here?” you greeted him warmly, inviting him in.
“I do not bring good tidings, sister. I'm here to bring you to Midgard,” he said simply.
“What? To Midgard? Why?” you asked, confused.
“It's about Loki. I do not have time to explain; it is urgent that you and the children come with me to Midgard at once.” Thor replied cryptically.
You hesitated. In your centuries of life, you had never once been to Midgard. With their backwards traditions and views on women, it was never a place you deemed worthy of visiting. But when you thought about how much your children had been asking for their father, you realised that you didn’t have the heart to deny them the opportunity.
“Alright, Thor. We’ll come with you,” you said firmly.
Thor nodded, and the four of you set off for Midgard.
As soon as you arrived, you could tell that something was wrong. The Avengers--or so you assumed--were all gathered in the common room, looking tense and worried. And in the middle of the room, chained up and looking dejected inside of a glass container, was Loki.
Your heart sank. What had he done now?
“Mummy, is that Daddy?” Freya asked, tugging on your sleeve.
Her sweet little voice seemed to grab the attention of everyone in the room; and soon all eyes were on your little family.
Attempting to ignore their stares, you turned and nodded at your daughter. “Yes, sweetheart, that’s your father.”
“What's he doing there?” Freya demanded.
You didn't have an answer for her. You were now too busy staring at Loki, trying to figure out what was going on.
Trying not to wake the sleeping baby in your arms and keeping a firm grip on your daughter’s hand, you turned to your brother-in-law and asked. “Thor, what's happening?”
Not meeting your eyes Thor replied, “It's complicated, sister.”
You glared at him. Complicated? Wasn’t everything that involved your husband complicated? “I want answers, Thor. And I'm not going to ask you twice.”
Thor sighed, looking defeated. “Loki...he tried to conquer Midgard. He attacked New York.”
Your blood boiled. “He did what? Why would he attempt such a thing?”
"I don't know," Thor admitted. “But he's here now, and we need your help.”
“My help?” you repeated incredulously.
“Yes. He’s refusing to talk to anyone. But I thought that possibly, if you talked to him, you could get through to him.” Thor said, looking at you hopefully.
You gaze shifted over at Loki. He was watching you, his eyes filled with sadness and what you assumed was regret. You could see the pain etched on his face, and for a moment, you felt a twinge of sympathy.
But then you remembered your children, and the way they had been asking for their father. You thought about how much they had been missing him, and how much they had been looking forward to seeing him again. And you knew what you had to do.
“Fine,” you said, taking a deep breath. “I'll talk to him.”

Love and Light in hell. Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Prologue
an: Sorry this took so long to get out, but i promise the rest won’t take so long, and i hope you all enjoy! <3
Harrison was more beloved than the sun. To the court of the Asgardians, he was essential, because he seemed to serve the same function among them as the sun's place in the universe. He was the center of attention, and he kept them all together. It was almost certain that Asgard would fall apart in a day if he was lost. All of the gods had told him so at one time or another. None of them knew they’d get to find out. . .
Mugnin squawked and shuffled on his father’s shoulder, bringing Harrison out of his daydream of making an excuse to slip out of the council session and escape the room for the glorious sunshine outside.  He turned away from that very light, filtering in through the window with its tempting view to look at the allfather, paying attention again.
Odin’s spear end knocked against the ground, giving away his anger and irritation before his tone or words did. “With these raids on our northern border, the fire giants have gone too far! They are asking for war. . .  and I say we give it to them.”
Why in the bloody hell is he always going on after war?
Odin’s one steely eyes swept across the room, silently daring any of the gods in attendance to speak or contradict him-- which of course none of them did. There was simply a slight stirring and muttering between them for a moment before it died away and the hall settled into silence.
Satisfied that no one opposed him, the Allfather opened his mouth to utter his commands when Harrison spoke up, turning to him with a brilliant smile and speaking softly. Nonetheless his words rang through the room and were heard by every god. In that moment there was no questioning who was in command or better liked as all the eyes in the room immediately fixed on Harrison’s, entranced by his light and very nature.
“If I could make a suggestion, Allfather. . .”
Harrison took the nod that followed as confirmation and continued.
“All out war with the fire giants would not be wise. It would inevitably harm Midgard, and that should be avoided at all costs. . . I think it would be wiser if we sent in Thor. He can protect the border and send the fire giants back without inciting all out war. Kvasir can even accompany him in case negotiation is needed.”
More like in case he gets too hot-headed and needs someone other than Loki to control him.
The thought was not spoken aloud as Harrison glanced at Thor and bowed his head in acknowledgment of the mighty warrior, who bowed back.
Odin cleared his throat as Harrison sat back in his seat.
“My beloved  son, as always, has spoken wisely in this case and I think it right to put this to the knowledge and opinion of all, so, those who wish to start war with the fire giants in return for this insult?”
In response to this, only a few hands raised and there was little noise in the hall that rose to no more than a murmur.
“And those who would send Thor?”
Immediately all the hands in the hall shot up and a loud din was raised.
Despite the sour expression partly hidden by his beard, Odin nodded in defeat and acknowledged the other gods wishes. His white knuckled grip was the only other sign of his annoyance and displeasure at his proposal being rejected. A sign that only Harrison noticed.
"Very well", the deep rumbling voice betrayed none of his real emotions, only the king's usual stoic command. "Thor will go to the border and face the fire giants with kavasir accompanying him there to advise him--- and even take over-- should negotiation be needed or the situation otherwise demands it."
The assembly bowed in unison, paying homage to the Allfather's leadership and wisdom before Thor and Kvasir approached him.
As the two deities neared, Harrison's gaze wandered out the window again. His mind followed it as he yawned and his hand rose to stifle and cover it. Despite the bright golden glow that faced him, his mind was focusing on the dark. . .
A wolf of gigantic portions pinned his father down and ripped out his throat, covering him in Odin's blood before he was suddenly faced with the Bifrost. It was not like he'd know it, however. It was crumbling. . . And did crumble as he watched it, falling and breaking down to dust under his feet, sending him plunging below. He wasn't drowned though. He suddenly found himself on the deck of a strange white ship. A man with greasy black hair piloted it, but by far his worst feature was his scarred and pockmarked face. . .so desiccated it  seemed more toxic than the bright green eyes focused ahead. A malicious smile twisted the features further, making the face even more grotesque as he stared at the shore. Harrison followed his gaze and saw what looked like dead warriors from every age crowding the land as far as he could see on both sides of the shore. . . At first he couldn't see who they were fighting against. It seemed to be nothing but chaos and confusion. Harrison noticed one or two even turning to fight their own instead of attempting to surge ahead confusedly at some unknown enemy. Then he saw a long cloak flash amid the throng followed a second later by a flash from the crowd.  Suddenly Freya leaped into view, the necklace of the brisings blazing like fire from her white throat and her magnificent cloak swishing this way and that as she tore through the ranks with all the viciousness of a bird of prey. He knew who they were fighting now, and he saw them one by one. Her brother, Frey, Thor, Tyr, his father and mother, even Hiemdal all fighting bravely. Every last one of the gods were there down to the most minor. Harrison knew they were going to lose. . . And he was rooted to the deck, unable to do anything but float by and watch them be slaughtered one by one.
A hand on his arm jerked him back to the world and out of his remembrance.
Harrison looked up to meet the frown on his mother's face and the sad, concerned look in her eyes. They both remained silent, but they didn't have to say anything.
Queen Frigg just squeezed his hand and Harrison squeezed back, feeling a surge of gratitude and love well up. In that moment, he couldn't be gladder he'd divulged the dream to her after the third day in a row he'd had it.
It was going on month straight now.
Harrison was about to turn back when she made a move toward him.
Taking the hint he leaned into her, meeting her halfway so she could mumble into his ear, ensuring no one else heard as she said
"I will take care of it, I promise you. I set out tonight to gather oaths from every living thing. Nothing will hurt you, or us."
His heart wilted and he could do nothing but nod.
Of course the one she remembers and worries over is the one where I die, and not the one where the gods and the rest of the universe end. I'm not worried about dying. I'm afraid if they do.
Harrison simply smiled at her, turned his gaze ahead again and listened once more.
Once that night's feast had been cleared, Harrison strolled out to the courtyard aimlessly. . . At least he seemed to.
Don't know why I want to see the messengers off, but I feel like I have to. Not like it'll change whatever answer they bring back.
A smile lit up his face when he saw his mother there.
"Yes. All of it, everything, except mistletoe. That can't hurt anyone, it's small so there's no use asking."
Frigga gleaming smile matched his own when she noticed him, and with a quick dismissive word of good luck she strolled over to her son as the messenger started off.
As soon as Harrison was within reach, she wrapped her arms around him.
"How are you? Any more nightmares?"
Harrison shook his head, looping her arm through his as they began to stroll through the front gardens.
"No, thankfully. At least, no new ones. Just the same ones as always, over and over again.” Harrison stopped suddenly, taking both her hands in his. "When will they be back?"
She smiled at him and he could see every ounce of the love she held for him in her gaze.
"Two days at most. They travel faster than the crow flies, but still, it takes some time to get to all four corners of the world."
Harrison nodded then squeezed her hand and stared deep into Frigga’s eyes.
"And you ordered them to get the same promise for the rest of you?"
At his words frigg laughed and pulled away, shaking her head as she moved off and began to walk again, drawing him with her.
"No, I didn't. I'm more concerned about you than anything else, but if it makes you feel better, then I can say I did, even if not."
Harrison shook his head and stopped her, turning her gently to face him.
"Mum, I  was serious, and you should have had them ask for that promise at the same time, like I said. It's not just my life at stake here-- it's all the nine realms."
Phil simply shook off his concern with a movement of her hand as she placed it on his shoulder.
"Harrison, I'm sure that part of your dreams will be thwarted if your death is. Have no fear. I'll make sure you survive and then we can focus on this other nightmare of yours. Make sure you stop it. But my first concern is you-- as it always will be."
No words could get through the love and disappointment clogging his throat. Harrison simply shook his head and shook her hand from his shoulder at the same time before walking off.
As promised, the messages returned a few days later, bringing news of success.
Everything and everyone they had asked had wholeheartedly promised to never harm the beloved golden son of their rulers. And, with the danger passed it was safe to mention it and so word soon got around to every deity, traveling with the speed that only gods can spread news. It ended as expected.
"No, no! They don't want to watch that."
Harrison shook off his friend Tuwaine with a laugh, nearly falling back into the grand dining table to send all the food crashing to the floor with the tankards, and plates. The precious mead would have been the worst loss of all-- a crime even the other gods would not have pardoned him for.
He breathed a sigh of relief and he steadied himself, well aware his life had been narrowly saved.
"Noo, they'd love it! Come on and give us a laugh. It literally won't hurt you!"
Harrison thought if over for a moment
Definitely risky. . . probably dangerous. . .I might accidentally get hurt or die after all.
One look at all the faces grinning eagerly at him and he gave in with a groan, stepping forward into the middle of the throng of gods.
"Go, on then!"
Their cheering literally shook the roof and echoed across the sky. Harrison stepped forward.
He smiled at one after another, nodding at a few and accepting all the handshakes and pats on the back they gave him as he passed.
This is not a good idea, I'm definitely going to regret this.
Nonetheless the smile Never left Harrison's face and he kept waking forward till he was standing in the clear space in the middle of the crowd.
Instinctively, he tensed, and then waited with his eyes closed.
The first impact barely registered and he had no idea what had hit him till he dared to open his eyes and see Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, laying there.
No giant or God has ever done that, now have they?
Harrison shifted, stood straight and met the eyes of the gods unflinchingly.
Their faces were as shocked and eyes as wide as his had been a second ago. There was a further moment of quiet, and then . . . suddenly noise broke out on every side and all the deities were clamoring to be the next to throw something at him, acting as young as mortal children.
This is amazing, I really am indestructible now.
Harrison laughed, throwing his arms wide and letting his head hang back, welcoming every last one of the blows that hardly seemed to touch him. All he could feel was the happiness and relief flooding him, the hope that dared to lace it. None of the gods' words reached him. All Harrison could hear was the rapid beating of his heart.
There's a chance now. We might have a chance. Mum was right.
He never even saw what ended him, stilling it foreve

Trust in Me Ch8
Hey! Hope you enjoy the latest chapter :)
“Am I not your mother?”
With a pained gasp Loki shot up from his bed, sweat beading on his brow, when would these night terrors end? This nightmare had been a particularly bad one. He could handle the torment of his torturer, the menacing grin, the promises of pain; but the memories of his mother would inflict the most grief. It didn’t matter if they were happy or sad, they were a reminder that she was gone.
Loki could not stay in his room this time, he had to move, he had to distract himself. He made his way to the living room.
At 3am Loki had thought he would be alone, but in the corner next to a small lit lamp was Bella. She was wearing a wool blanket as a shawl, clutching an empty cup of tea in one hand, and in the other a copy of Tess of the d’Urbervilles. Her white fuzzy socks peaked through the cocoon she had made for herself in the armchair; she looked so innocent and content with the world.
“I believe I’ve tracked that as your fourth book of the week.”  Loki spoke softly, grabbing her attention, “and it’s only Wednesday.”
She laughed quietly, “I seem to have chosen some riveting books this week.”
“So riveting they’ve kept you from sleep?” Loki asked.
She shook her head sadly. Loki walked into the kitchen, filled the kettle, and switched it on to boil.
 “Nightmares?” Loki pressed.
Y/N looked thoughtful, “In a way…they make me more sad than frightened.” She explained.
Loki made two cups of tea and brought one over to Bella; she smiled at him gratefully. Loki took a seat on the sofa across from her, looking out the window at the bright lights of New York. His view was obstructed by small gathering raindrops, delicately hanging on the glass.
Y/N had noticed the tired expression on Loki’s face the past few weeks. He tried to disguise it as boredom, but slowly dark circles were forming under his eyes. She had begun to worry for the trickster.
“Is that what’s keeping you awake? The nightmares?” Y/N asked quietly, still afraid of crossing a line.
Loki looked over at her and she could have sworn he seemed relieved; relieved someone had noticed or that he did not have to admit it, she wasn’t sure.
Loki hesitated, debating whether he should divulge this information. The God of lies decided to be honest; she had shown him nothing but trust and he wanted to return the favour.
“Not all of them are nightmares. They are mostly memories, good and bad.” Loki admitted, his voice low, almost inaudible.
A long silence followed, comfortable but weighted. There was a lot to be understood from what had not been said. Y/N knew Loki would not reveal more about his dreams, nor would she reveal the details of her own. It was enough to know that they were both haunted by their pasts.
Loki changed the subject, not wanting to dwell on what he had wanted to escape from.
“I hope Thor is treating you kinder.” He said.
Y/N had noticed Thor had been more hospitable towards her. When making a drink he would offer her one or if asking the group a question he made sure she was included in the conversation. It was a small change, but a significant one. Y/N had wondered if Loki had had something to do with it.
She smiled, “He is. I don’t think we are friends just yet but maybe in time… I don’t blame him for being wary.”
Loki sighed and brushed his hand through his hair. Y/N liked it when he looked casual like this, he seemed relaxed with her and in turn she relaxed with him.
“My brother should know better than to judge a person for their family. How many would judge him due to their hatred for Odin?” He scoffed.
Bella’s lip quirked upwards remembering her father, “My father would be on that list.”
Loki looked up at her, noting her startled expression, as though the words had slipped out of their own accord.
“Oh? Your father did not care for the almighty Odin?” Loki said, with a devilish grin and a humorous tone.
His teasing smile gave Y/N the permission she needed to carry on without fear of causing offence.
“My father did not care for the Gods. His brother Regin was devoted to Odin, he even raised his sons to worship him. But my father always told me to never trust the Gods.” Y/N said, hearing her father’s words echo through her head.
Loki was surprised. Despite the Tatum Clan being unpopular in Asgard, they were devoted subjects. He would hear their battle cries to Thor on their many raids. He suspected this dedication would dwindle throughout time, but he hadn’t expected a Tatum to cast aside the Gods outright.
“May I ask why? He asked curiously.
She remembered her father’s warning, “He said that people spend their entire lives trying to please the Gods, to interpret their teaching and follow them whole heartedly; but the Gods are fickle, what they would teach, they would reinterpret, never to be satisfied with what man can offer. He said he would not live his life depending on their false courtesies and small mercies.”
 Y/N stopped and smiled.
“This annoyed my uncle to no end.” She chuckled, “I think my father would say it just to annoy him.”
Loki chuckled with her, “Your father sounds like a wise man. Your uncle’s faith never wavered?”
Y/N shook her head, “He remained loyal to Odin most of his life. He had four strong sons with strong Norse names. He thanked the Gods for them every day, prayed for their safety every day, begged for their bright futures every day.” Y/N’s voice grew quieter towards the end.
Loki noticed her smile had grown sad. “Most of his life?”
“My cousins… Regin’s sons, were some of the first to die when the family were…well.” She never knew what to call the demise of her family, a slaughter? A cull?
“Regin felt as though his prayers had been ignored. He asked my father why Odin had forsaken him; my father simply told him what he had always told me, that Gods are fickle. They say on his last day Regin did not pray.” She spoke sadly, “Despite my father’s waring, I do hope he and his boys are in Valhalla…it’s all he wanted.” Y/N said.
Loki pondered her father’s words. Pandering to ‘false courtesies and small mercies,’ is that not what Loki had done his entire life?  Had he not waited for scraps of kindness from his supposed father only to be condemned for doing just what the Allfather had done himself? Odin had hated the Tatum’s, maybe Rafael was the reason why. Could Rafael see what others had been blind to?
Y/N could feel Loki overthinking, she could see it in his eyes too. When Tony began to worry a simple touch of his hand would soothe him; Y/N did not wish to be too forward with Loki, so she changed her method of comfort.
Y/N tightened her blanket around her shoulders and grabbed a few cushions from the neighbouring sofas. She scattered them in front of the giant window, arranging them much like she did the night they watched the fireworks. She sat down in the little den of cushions, looked over to Loki and patted the spot next to her.
Loki was slightly bewildered by her actions. For a woman wise beyond her years, he had never seen her look so youthful and relaxed. The seat she offered was inviting, it promised warmth and comfort. He took her offer and sat down beside her.
The pitter-patter of rain against the window was calming. They watched the city continue to go about its business for a little while before Belle spoke up.
“My Uncle told me many stories about the Gods when I was a little girl. Did Thor really dress up as the Goddess Freya?”
Loki couldn’t hold back his laughter, “Yes my dear, he did. It all started when the giant Thrym snuck into Asgard…”
Loki continued to recount Norse tales from long ago for many more hours. They grew more and more tired as the night went on and eventually fell asleep on the pile of cushions. Y/N was the first to fall asleep, her head resting against Loki’s shoulder; not long after, Loki gave in and rested his head on top of hers, he drifted into a dreamless sleep.
Loki awoke just two hours later; the tower was still quiet, and the sky was still dark. He looked down to see Y/N resting peacefully in his arms, they appeared to have gravitated closer together in their sleep.
She was curled into Loki’s side, safe and secure. Loki had one arm tucked behind his head, the other wrapped around the young woman beside him. His cheek rested against her forehead, the gentle flutter of her eyelashes brushing against his chin.
Loki couldn’t shift the feeling of contentment, no matter how hard he tried to convince himself that it meant nothing. The warmth of her body soothed him, her even breathing calmed him. It was the first time he had slept without his memories interrupting him.
It was a big statement of trust for Y/N to fall asleep in front of him, one that Loki would not take for granted.
Slowly and carefully, he lifted her into his arms and carried her over to the sofa. After making sure her head was gently placed upon one of the soft cushions, he draped her blanket over her sleeping form.
Loki made his way to his own bed and tried to continue his peaceful slumber, but for some reason, when he closed his eyes, he felt like something was missing.
Y/N was confused by her surroundings when she awoke the next day. When the memories of the night before came back to her, she blushed profusely and hoped she had not offended Loki by being so forward.
“How come you slept out here?” She heard, making her jump off the sofa and onto the floor in shock.
She turned to find Bucky smirking down at her.
“Bucky you scared me!” She said regaining her lost breath.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” He said sheepishly.
Y/N felt guilty, “I know…I’m sorry. I’m not quite awake yet.” She got up and made her way to the kitchen where a fresh pot of coffee was brewing.
Bucky smiled, “That’s okay, I was just wondering if you wanted anything from the bakery?”
Y/N looked at him surprised, “You’re going out today?”
Like Bella, Bucky did not leave the tower much. He would go out much more frequently than she would, but he had fears of his own. Loud noises startled Bucky, but over the last year or so, he had tried to get used to them and pushed himself to go visit new places.
“Steve is going with me. It’s been a week since I last went out and he’s getting anxious.” Bucky chuckled at his friend’s over protectiveness.
Y/N gave him a big smile, “That’s great Bucky.”
As they made a small shopping list for Bucky’s bakery trip, Loki came into the room. He hadn’t interacted much with the winter soldier, but he seemed civil.
Y/N noticed Loki enter and found that she felt something akin to nervousness. Was it nerves? Why did she feel this strange flutter in the pit of her stomach? She felt her skin heat up too, making her aware that her cheeks had turned as red as cherries.
Bucky noticed this change in his friend, he had never seen her so flushed. It was somewhat entertaining.
 “Morning.” Loki said.
“Morning.”  Bucky replied with no malice or trepidation.
“Yes morning, it’s…um…morning.” Y/N fumbled over her words.
What on earth had gotten into her.
Loki also noticed this change, but believed she merely felt embarrassed about having fallen asleep together. Loki wasn’t offended by this; to rest with someone is an intimate act, especially for someone as timid as Bella. He just hoped she did not regret it.
“Okay…” Bucky said, trying to move away from the awkwardness of the encounter, “I’m heading to the bakery if you want anything?” Bucky asked Loki.
 “The bakery?” Loki questioned.
“It’s just around the corner from here. I can show you if you like?” Bucky offered.
Loki hesitated, “I’m not sure that is wise…”
“If it helps, Steve’s going to be there to make sure I don’t mess up and scare everyone. I’m sure he can babysit the both of us.” Bucky smirked.
His dry sense of humour had caught Loki off-guard. Loki had been somewhat made aware of the circumstances that brought the soldier to the tower. Bucky’s situation was not too dissimilar to his own.
“Well if you think he can handle it...” Loki joked, earning a chuckle from Bucky.
Bucky got up from his seat, “They don’t call him a super soldier for nothing, shall we?”
Loki was about to follow Bucky to the elevator but stopped to speak to Y/N first. He suddenly felt very shy.
“We could go to the library this afternoon… if you wanted?” he asked.
Y/N was surprised, but so very happy. She lowered her head, hoping her hair would shield the pink of her cheeks from his gaze. “I would like that.”
Loki smiled, “I had better get us some pastries then.”
With that he left, leaving Y/N to think about the God of Mischief and how good it felt to have him so close.

Prove It - Masterlist
Warning: Mild Violence
“Safe journey,” Freya hugged you.
“Thank you for everything Freya,” Loki hugged Freya once she released you from her hug “Should we survive you are always welcome at the castle.”
Your eyes widened upon hearing ‘should we survive’ and it was then that it truly resonated with you that you may actually die.
You looked around hoping to see Rueben but it would seem he left, sadness filled you with the knowledge of not saying goodbye to him. Pushing that thought aside you turned to Freya when she tapped on your shoulder.
“Take this with you,” she held out a small dagger that was the size of your hand and your eyes widened at the sight.
“Freya, I couldn’t – I’ve never used a dagger before in my life.”
“I insist. It’s better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.”
“O-okay…thank you,” you took the dagger from her holding it awkwardly in your hand. How in the world do people hold these things?
Loki and Freya shared a worried yet amused expression over how you were holding the dagger, Loki sighed and gently took it from you. He kneeled before you and began to lift your dress up, to which you patted his hands away.
He chuckled while he raised an eyebrow at you, with a blushing face you turned your head away allowing him to continue. He pulled your dress up just enough to show the boots that Freya had given you. Using the laces he tied it to the side of your boot, tugging on to ensure that it was secure.
“There, now you can’t stab yourself with it,” he teased and you narrowed your eyes at him when he rose to his feet.
Freya watched as you both made your way into towards the mountain until she could no longer see you. Loki led the way with you following closely behind, clutching your coat closer to your chest. You could barely see in front of you as the sun had yet to rise but took comfort in the feeling of Loki’s hand in yours.
So many thoughts were running through your head but the biggest thing was why.
Why was your realm dying?
Why were you being blamed for everything?
Why was this even happening?
Though you didn’t want to entertain this thought, you had considered that maybe Loki was behind everything. You couldn’t help because truthfully nothing happened until he showed up.
Granted your life was rather mundane until you married Loki but at least you weren’t being threatened. But, he’s just as confused as you are and he loves you.
Which means that he is not to blame for any of this and when the winds pick up he pulls you into his side. You snap out of your thoughts and focus on him, realizing that he’s doing everything he can to protect you. Upon realizing that you feel guilty for ever thinking that he was to blame but it wasn’t that hard to think it in the first place.
Since this is Loki we’re talking about, the most aggravating man you have ever met. And yet, he’s also the most caring person you’ve ever met. While you were lost in your thoughts he had been guiding you through the forest. Ensuring that you weren’t going to walk into anything or get hurt by anything.
There had been a hole in the ground that you almost walked into but he stopped you by picking you up and placing you on the opposite side. How you didn’t realize that was beyond you but you were grateful that he had picked you up.
“(Y/N),” Loki snapped his fingers in front of your face gaining your attention.
“What?” you looked up at him with furrowed brows.
“Now really isn’t the time to be daydreaming.”
“I’m not.”
“Yes, you are. You’ve almost walked into a hole and into a thorn bush and –”
“I get it,” you sighed. “But I haven’t been daydreaming.”
“Then what have you been doing?”
“Thinking.”
“About?”
“Everything.”
“Can you narrow it down to one thing?”
“Well, truthfully I thought you were behind everything…”
“You thought I was the cause of what is happening?” Loki asked with a raised brow, “I’m flattered that you think me capable of this,” he gestures to the dying forest that you two are walking through, “But I do not possess the type of magic to do this.”
“I said thought you were but I know you aren’t.”
“Now I’m offended that you think I’m not,” Loki teased and you giggled, “I am quite gifted with magic in many ways,” he winked at you and you shook your head at his suggestion.
“Now is not the time to be thinking about that.”
“Why not?”
“Because we are literally being hunted,” You deadpanned. “I don’t see how you can even being thinking about that right now.”
“Well, you are a very attractive woman. You are also my wife and I love you. So excuse me if I wish to make love to you,” Loki muses and you blush. “And the fact that we are being hunted just increases that desire.”
You have no idea what to say to that so you remain silent as you walk by his side. Then you let out a small yelp when he playfully slapped your bum to which you whacked his chest for causing him to laugh. Shaking your head you laugh along with him, which was nice but short lived.
Looking forward you stopped dead in your tracks with terror filled eyes. A hunting party of at least twenty or more men was approaching your current location. Loki followed your gaze and then acted quickly, he gripped your hand in his before dashing behind a tree. There wasn’t any other place to hide and despite the fact that it didn’t hide either of you very well it was better than nothing.
“Did they see us?” you whispered.
“No, I don’t think so.”
“What are we going to do?”
“I don’t know,” Loki sighed, “But I’ll think of something.”
“Well think faster!” you hissed as you peeked out from behind the tree and saw the hunting party coming closer. “Crap!”
“What?!”
“I think they saw me,” you said and snuck down to the ground. “I’m going to die,” you whimpered as tears filled your eyes.
Loki looked down at you and then up towards the hunting party. Even with his magic, there was no way he could take them on by himself and keep you safe at the same time.
He then got an idea that might work and it’s something he has done many times before as a child. He kneeled before you and place a finger under your chin guiding your face upwards.
“Do you trust me?” he asked.
“Truthfully?” you whispered and he nodded. “Sort of.”
“That will have to do then,” he sighed, “You’re not going to die.”
Before you could utter a single word he pulled you to your feet and gave a fierce kiss that took your breath away. He pulled away first and looked into your eyes before nodding and taking a few steps back from you.
“What are you doing?” you inquired a little breathlessly.
Loki merely smirked and you let out a gasp as you saw yourself appear right beside him. Then Loki walked to your side and another Loki appeared right in front of him.
You looked to the real Loki and he winked at you before you looked to your illusions. Suddenly about eleven more pairs of them appeared in front of you, nearly scaring you half to death in the process.
You stood gaping at the illusions and wondered what Loki was planning to do with them. You clung to the real Loki, fearing you would lose him amongst the illusions. He chuckled at you before he sent a pair of the illusions out towards the hunting party.
“THERE THEY ARE!” a man yelled and the illusions ran off.
Loki sent all the illusions out in various directions and the hunting party split off in pursuit of them.
“How long will those last?” you asked Loki.
“Not long, RUN!” he said before he held your hand in his and took off running.
Unfortunately, a group of six men saw you and Loki running and took in pursuit of the two of you. You both kept looking over your shoulder as you ran and pushed yourselves to run faster. But, no matter how fast you ran it seemed that the men were getting closer.
You came to a sudden halt and tugged against Loki’s hand causing him to stumble backward. Both panting you looked down and saw that you were right on the edge of a cliffside. And to your right was the path that leads to the mountain path Freya told you about.
You let out a scream when an arrow pierced the backside of your left leg causing your knees to buckle. Loki caught you and lowered you gently to the ground before whirling around and shooting off ice spears at the men. He hit two of them in the chest killing them but that only angered the four remaining men.
Groaning you snapped the body of the arrow in attempts to pull it out. And out of the corner of your eye, you saw more men from the hunting party running towards you.
“Can you walk?” Loki asked while he threw more ice spears at the men who were dodging them.
“Do I have a choice?” you groaned as you painfully rose to your feet.
Slowly you shuffle to hide behind a tree’s trunk and gaze longingly at the mountain. Then shriek in surprise when an arrow goes flying past the tree’s side narrowly missing your left cheek.
“Get to the path!” Loki yells at you.
“What about you!?!”
“Just go!”
“LOKI!?”
“I’ll be right behind you!”
You hesitate for a moment but you have zero knowledge of fighting and are utterly useless to Loki right now. With a deep breath you turn and hobble your way to the path but the arrow prevented you from lifting your leg up which forced you to drag your leg.
You didn’t dare look behind you in fear of what you might find. Loki had to be okay on his own and you had to get somewhere safe, not that the mountain path was safe but you preferred possible rockslides over the hunting party.
You could feel the arrow cutting deeper into your leg but then your body filled with adrenaline, numbing your pain. You could hear shouting and screams of pain emanating from behind you but you wouldn’t look back.
Pushing yourself further to the path you just prayed you could make it but you wouldn’t get any further than half way up the path.
With a scream of fright, you were tackled to the ground by someone landing face first in the snow. You thrashed about effectively knocking your elbow into your attacker's face and somehow managed to squirm out from under them.
You whipped your head around when you felt a hold on your ankle and kicked in a frenzy at the man who was holding your foot.
You’ve never seen him before and don’t really care to get a good look at his face. You just want to get away from him.
“LET GO!” you screamed as you kicked relentlessly.
“Never!”
You aimed your next kicks for his face and he roared in pain when the dagger Freya gave you hit his right eye. Well, looks like it was a good thing she gave you the dagger but now your attacker is pissed. And when you looked behind him four more men were charging towards you. You were absolutely screwed and you were going to die.
With a mad roar, your attacker throttled you and you screamed as you pushed against his arms. He was stronger than you but somehow you were managing to keep his hands away from your neck. Where was Loki? Tears filled your eyes and your vision became blurred.
“Please let me go!” you sobbed. “I’m not responsible for anything that’s happening!”
“Yeah right!” he seethes and some of his spit hits your right cheek. That was disgusting! You rubbed your cheek against the snow, wiping away his spit.
“I only found out about what’s happening last night! I was the princess for goodness sake! How could I be the one responsible for anything when I had no power to do anything or make any decisions regarding the realm!?!” you pleaded through a sob, hoping that he would see reason.
It was useless, the man above you was clouded with anger and there was nothing anyone could say to stop him. You whimpered as his hands came closer to your neck, trying to move your legs wasn’t helpful as his legs were pinning yours to the ground.
Then a flash of gray flew above you and your attacker was sent flying off into the distance.
“Rueben!” you happily sobbed.
Rueben stood above you, snarling with a low threatening growl at the approaching men, which were now six instead of four. They drew their weapons and Rueben let out a loud roar that shook the ground you laid on. The men stopped dead in their tracks with fearful eyes as they beheld Rueben, it would seem that just his mere presence was enough to make them rethink harming you.
That didn’t last long and arrows were launched towards you both but Rueben caught them in his mouth. He bites down and the arrows snapped in half before he spits them on the ground in front of him.
You push yourself backward while Rueben keeps his gaze locked on the men. He lets outs roar that shakes the ground and then he pounces onto the men. Trembling and wide-eyed you watch as he rips the men to shreds, thankful that he’s on your side.
Somehow you manage to stand and stumble backward up the path while watching Rueben. You turned when you heard Rueben roar once more and hobbled quickly up and onto the side of the mountain. With a quick glance behind you hope to see Loki but he’s not there. Fighting away tears you push forward and hope for the best.
Loki ran past Rueben who’s fending off as many men as he can and Loki gives him a quick smile before running up the path. He’s heart is racing as he sees a trail of blood that he knows is from you and he curses himself for not being able to protect you.
“LET GO OF ME!”
That scream was from you, he’s certain of it and he pushes himself to run faster. He turns a corner and finds you fighting against a man who is trying to push you over the side of the mountain. Loki begins to feel weak as something begins to drain his magic. This can’t be happening, not right now, you need him and he’ll be damned if he doesn’t save you.
The man who is trying to push you over the edge is Kahlil, one of the men who barged into Freya’s home. He had slipped past Rueben and followed you up the mountain path. You had taken a break and were leaning against the mountain’s side when suddenly he appeared.
You spun around when you felt a presence behind you and he grabbed you by the arm. He was stronger than you and no matter how hard you tried, he ended up dragging you.
“Get your hands off me,” you whimpered. “Please, please let me go.”
“Shut it!”
Kahlil suddenly is tackled to the ground and you fall to your knees causing a scream of agony to rip past your lips. Falling onto your side you clutch your injured leg and against your better judgment, yank out the arrow’s tip. With a trembling hand, you toss the arrow away and look up at Kahlil.
He’s wrestling a bloody Loki and your eyes widen in horror when the mountain beings to shake. The men stop wrestling to look up and rocks along with waves of snow are barreling their way down the mountain’s side.
The path the three of you laid upon began to crumble and Loki knocked out Kahlil before desperately trying to get to you.
Just before Loki reaches you the path gives way sending you both plummeting into a dark abyss while rock and snow flow like rivers after you.
Part 13!
Thank you all so much for your sweet messages and patience with me over this past month.
Thanks for reading!

Note
I am a Mythology nerd so HAVE MY ASK: Bastet, Osiris, Thoth c':, Freya, Loki, Apollo, Hekate, Zeus, Pluto, Venus, Morpheus, I secretly wanted to do everyone of them but I didn't want to bother you as well :')
You could never bother me! Say the word and I’ll post the rest (because sometimes I like attention :P)
Bastet: Do you have any cats?
Yes - 4. Lord Eddard Stark (or Ned), Sonny [Bono], Baby, and Fluffy. Don’t ask me why I named a cat after Sonny Bono.
Osiris: Do you believe in the underworld?
I think so. I mean, I want to.I watched Hercules too many times as a kid, which led to reading a lot of Greek Mythology. It’s so intriguing but hard to reconcile with all the christian mythology I’ve heard growing up. I kind of like to imagine every religion’s version of heaven and hell exists - just to cover all the bases.
Thoth: Do you like to read/write?
I DO!! Reading keeps me alive. I own close to 1,000 books and boy do I wish I was exaggerating XD Writing is a fun new hobby, thanks to Ghost. I don’t have any original ideas for a novel or something, but those spooky Swedes inspire me.
Freya: Have you ever been in love?
I have. It did not go well but mostly because of who I am as a person, ha
Loki: What is the best trick you've ever pulled on someone?
Gee, I don’t know. I’m not much of a trickster I guess. When I was 10 I convinced my two best friends I had three sisters who lived with my dad. Somehow they actually believed me!
Apollo: Do you play any instruments?
The clarinet and the piano. It’s been ages since I’ve played but I used to love it.
Hekate: Have you ever tried to communicate with the dead?
Does sitting in my closet with a friend and a glow in the dark Ouija board count? I was 13, it was the only room dark enough to make the board glow, and we didn’t get any response to our questions.
Zeus: Are you a confident person?
In certain situations. At work I’m the most confident person you could meet, and with my closest friends. Around new people or online I am horribly shy and feel stupid.
Pluto: Where do you think we go when we die?
I know ghosts are real, so I think not everyone leaves Earth. It would be nice to believe in some sort of pleasant afterlife, where you have all the time in the world to do all things you love with no time limit. I do hope awful people go someplace for punishment but only for the really terrible things, not stupid stuff like lying.
Venus: Have you ever had your heart broken?
Indeed. When I was in love, it was only one-sided. Cue three years of pinning quotes about unrequited love on Pinterest and listening to the sappiest sad music you can imagine.
Morpheus: Do you daydream often? Of what?
I do (usually while driving, eek!) Lately I daydream about Ghost because I’m happily obsessed and need things to write about.
Thank you for the ask!!

Everybody* Loves Baldur
We are going to take a DETOUR from Arthurian mythos and Robin “Psychopath In The” Hood stories to explore the bizarre and extravagant lands of Old Norse mythos. Now, I know I say this about lots of different mythos, but, boy oh boy, Norse mythos, wild stuff, you’ll see. Today, we’ll talk about the supposed owner of a gate a lot of people who like classic Western RPGs are familiar with: Baldur.
Now, before even getting into Old Norse mythos, you need to understand something: No one is fully sure what Old Norse mythos is. A lot of scholars are not sure what the hell some characters are supposed to even be, but at least, unlike Irish mythos, we have mostly accurate ways to pronounce their names, so at least we can refer to them by name properly while we wonder what the fuck is going on instead of being stuck at “Dfk... Dufil... Dukfil... THAT DUDE went and asked Medb something”. But the thing is, Norse mythos is mostly preserved in its general gist, since a lot of the writings dealing with the itty gritty details are often damaged so there’s lotsa personal conjecture.
BUT TODAY YOU MUSTN’T WORRY ABOUT ANY OF THAT BECAUSE BALDUR’S STORY IS ONE OF THEM WELL PRESERVED ONES, HAHA, PSYCHE, I BET I HAD YER KNICKERS IN A TWISTER. Aaalright, so, Baldur, Baldur’s the god of Light, or maybe Love, possibly Peace, no one is sure because he is never explicitly mentioned as being a “god of this thing”, but it’s mostly assumed he is the God of Light because of something I’ll mention later, and the thing with Baldur is that EVERYONE loves him. Baldur’s super hot and super nice, and he knows it, but he isn’t stuck up about it, he’s honestly the ideal person, Norse people back then would often beg for Baldur’s blessings on their newborn babies so they would be hot and cool like him. Practically everyone likes Baldur. Hell, it gets to such a point that, in another story not entirely relevant to today’s, the giantess Skadi, who is the first recorded person in history and lore to have a raging foot fetish, saw these GORGEOUS toes and immediately assumed “THOSE GOTTA BE BALDUR’S, ONLY BALDUR CAN HAVE FEET THIS GOD DAMN BEAUTIFUL, I AM GONNA SUCK THOSE TOES” and asked for marriage immediately, except, the feet weren’t Baldur’s, they were Njord’s (another god), and Skadi was like “aw fuck” and they got married because Njord happened to be a macrophile and liked his women big, but as with all marriages shotgunned into place by fetishes and a lack of contact, they ended up divorcing. BUT THAT is another story (and a good one, Skadi’s a fun lady). The point is, Baldur is so widely god damn loved that shit like this apparently happened a couple of times. You know you are a Pussy Destroyer when someone gets Schrodinger’s Married because it could possibly be you.
So Baldur was basically living the life, being nice, hot, and beloved, when one day, he starts having bad dreams. In these dreams, Baldur dies. Now, this is the part where you say “uh ok”, and this is the part where I explain “DREAMS WERE ALWAYS PROPHETIC IN NORSE MYTHOS” and now you say “oh”. So yeah, Baldur was going to die. Which made zero sense, because he is a god, and thus, biologically immortal (as in, [Shirou voice] only dies if he’s killed, won’t die of old age), so if he was going to die, it meant that someone was plotting to kill him. So Baldur goes to his daddy, Odin, and he’s crying and holding onto his blanket so Odin gets worried, as any father does, and asks “SON, DID YOU GET A BOO BOO, WHAT IS WRONG”, and Baldur explains he’s been dreaming he’s gonna die, and Frigg (his mother, Odin’s wife, the goddess also known as Frea, not to be confused with Freya) is also really sad because she’s also been dreaming that Baldur’s gonna kick the bucket, and in Norse mythos, when TWO whole people have the same dream, that’s basically something that WILL happen. Also, it makes no sense, because everybody loves Baldur, so who the fuck would want him dead? You know what else makes no sense? That Odin seems to forget his piece of shit son Loki exists. WAU.
So, shit, alright, fuck, we gotta deal with this, pronto, and Powermom is here to help. Frigg gets on her soccer mom van and drives at full speed across the Norse world and makes everything promise that they will not harm nor kill Baldur, ever. Notice I said everyTHING and not everyONE. That’s right, fellas, Frigging Frigg talked to absolutely everything in the world and made them promise to not kill Baldur, which was actually pretty easy, because everyone was like “yeah sure man we love Baldur, why would we harm him in the first place, we just want his autograph and his babies”, because if you are hot and nice, the world is yours. So now the whole world promised to not harm Baldur under any circumstance. The whole world, except the mistletoe, because the mistletoe was too young to make promises, so Frigg didn’t make it swear anything aND YOU NO DOUBT KNOW WHERE THIS IS GOING. It’s like when I tell you “So SIegfried is invulnerable EXCEPT for a leaf shaped spot on his back” or “Achilles is impervious to all damage EXCEPT in his tendon”, old literature was kinda UNCOUTH AND HEAVY on the foreshadowing, as reading mythology will often tell you.
So Baldur is now literally impervious to all forms of damage, because the world promised not to harm him. So what do you do when you are undamageable? Why, you get shit thrown at you for kicks and giggles! The god damn gods, with Baldur also into it, straight developed this hobby of having B-Boy stand in the middle of the hall while everyone threw spears and arrows and axes and rockets and chairs at him just for a laugh and watch as they all missed or failed to injury him in the slightest because, hey, promises are promises. This is the part where I tell you that Humans Have Always Been Humans, even gods, because if we have the opportunity to do something incredibly stupid like lugging javelins at a dude just to see what happens if we know it won’t hurt him, you damn right know we will. So they gods are getting shitfaced and rowdy with this whole Put The Spear On Baldur game they made up, when Loki, using his Robbie Rotten powers to disguise into an old lady, approaches Fregg, who was having a laugh watching at literally everyone throw sharp shit at her invincible son.
“HEY FREGG, WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS”
“Oh, you know, the world promised not to harm Baldur, see, so now we are just throwing shit at him, it’s ok”
“Everything promised not to harm him?”
“Well, yeah, everything except the mistletoe, because it’s too young to make promises, but it’ll be alright”
“YES INDEED VERY VERY ALRIGHT”
So Loki fucks off and goes to find a mistletoe, naturally. And this one isn’t for kissing, no sir, because Loki somehow sharpens the mistletoe and makes it into a mistlefoe, and fashions a god damn spear out of the mistlefoe because Fuck You He’s Loki And He Can Do That. Now, we all know a good trickster doesn’t get his own hands dirty, so he’s going around with his mistlefoe spear, looking for someone to Do The Deed, when he finds Hod (also known as Hodur), the blind twin brother of Baldur, crying in a corner.
“Sup B, why you crying”
“Well, everyone is having fun throwing miscellaneous war paraphernalia at my bro and they won’t let me in ‘cause I’m blind as a bat and they are afraid I might hit someone else”
“How Unreasonable Of Them To Not Let The Blind Dude Throw Killthings! I have just the thing for you! I will lend you my spear, so go have a swing at B-Boy”
“SU-WEET”
So Hod, armed with the Mistlefoe Spear, takes a running start and throws that sucker with a smile on his face, rolls a natural 20, and deals the Criticalest of fucking Hits on Baldur, landing the spear SQUARE on his heart. Why were they even AFRAID of this dude missing, the guy was clearly a marksman. Except, this was the mistletoe, so it pierced Baldur’s gorgeous, well oiled pectorals easily, stabbed his heart, and killed him dead. Oops.
Odin was like “??????” and was SO PISSED that he went, had mega sex with the giantess Rindr, gave birth to Vali as soon as they were done, and Vali grew into adulthood after a single day and then killed Hod. Do you ever get SO ANGRY that you go have sex with a giantess just to spawn a kid that immediately becomes a warrior JUST to kill a dude that pissed you off? Odin, you could’ve just HIT HIM yourself, what the fuck.
Well, anyways, so everyone was pretty sad because Cool Guy Had Bad Day and died. Messengers everywhere we doling out the news, women wept, men cried, it was a bad day. It was such a bad day that Hel, ruler of, uh, Hell, was like “aw shucks that kinda sucks?”, and as much as she liked the guy, Hel had a job to do as the rule of the underworld, but she decided to make an exception this one time, but only if the world earned it. Hel grabbed her megaphone and yelled “ALRIGHT KIDS, so I know you are all very sad Baldur’s dead and you want him back, so I am going to make a ONE TIME EXCEPTION, I will let him out of the underworld and revive, only, and ONLY, if everyone in the world cries and weeps for him”.
And everyone was like pffff no biggie, we love that dude, let’s CRY, so they did. Hel’s doing the checklist, like some sort of twisted Santa Klaus, checking who’s crying, and the list is almost full, but then she burrows her brow and drops the list. “Well, I guess Baldur is not coming back to life, that one girl didn’t cry” and everyone was like “WHAT WHO”
So Hel points at the giantess Thokk, whose name literally means “thanks”, ironically enough, and says “she ain’t crying, deal’s off” and she closes the Underworld, presumably to fangirl out to Baldur who lived there now. So everyone’s naturally like “THOKK WHAT THE FUCK” but then Freddy from Scooby Doo is like “Wait, there’s something fishy about this” and removes her face and, What Do You Know, It Was Loki In Disguise. He went and ruined EVERYTHING for EVERYONE again. And I don’t simply mean “he made sure someone everyone loved died and stayed dead”, I mean “Loki got Baldur killed and kickstarted the Ragnarok” because Baldur’s death robbed the world of light, hence why he’s assumed to be the God of Light.
So uh
Good job buddy.
Also, Loki literally had nothing to gain from this. Ragnarok’s also a really bad deal for him. He just... Did it. Because.
So the real message of the Story of Baldur is that one very dedicated asshole can and will ruin things for everyone and everything if left to his own devices.
