When she told Rooster about it, he was very excited. He couldn’t help but ask if she planned on wearing those shorts again, with his eyes dropping down her body appreciatively.

She has to clear her throat, because they were still at Evelyn’s when he does that, “Anyway,” she purses her lips, sitting next to him on the couch, settling Aurora on top of her chest while he holds Gavin, Nicole happily sitting on the floor between her parents, playing with Wiley, “It’ll be next saturday. I can talk to Penny, she’ll let me go by then.”

Rooster's eyes lingered on Beatrice as she settled Aurora on her chest, his playful grin not fading even as she cleared her throat to redirect his attention. "Those shorts were something else, you know," he teased, quietly "But seriously, I can't wait to see you in action."

Beatrice chuckled, giving him a playful nudge. "You just want an excuse to see me in those shorts again, don't you?"

He winked, his eyes dancing with pure adoration. "Can you blame me? Besides, it's been a while since we've seen you on the court. It's going to be a blast."

“Four years to be exact.” she smiles, “Doesn’t seem that long,damn.”

“You tell me,’ Jake mutters, “I’m still sore from you guys’ beating us– Rooster doesn’t count, he was in the team but he just was busy looking at you.” and Rooster didn’t look guilty at all by that accusation.

“Well, the game made it possible for you to get closer to Ev,Jake…wasn’t all bad,right?” Bea smiles, “You got together and you have little JJ now.”

Rooster chuckled, his arm wrapping around Beatrice as they settled into the cozy living room. "Yeah, Jake, you can thank our game for bringing you and Evelyn together. It was all part of the master plan."

Jake rolled his eyes in mock annoyance, but the smile on his face betrayed his amusement. "Well, I suppose I can forgive the sore muscles then. It all worked out in the end." he looks down at the sleeping baby before Evelyn sits next to him.

“So,” she begins, “We need a schedule because of the kids, all the girls said yes so we’re good.”

“Well,” Bea looks at Rooster, ‘Nikki and the twins nap at 9, then after lunch and then they stay up until dinner time, to fall asleep soon after…so…maybe ten o’clock is good?”

“Ten o’clock is around the time JJ wants to have a snack, so we should try something a bit later.”

Rooster only watched the interaction, flicking his eyes back and forth, then he parted his lips, “You know,we can take care of the kids no problem.” he suggests, seeing that the two women weren’t going to find a fitting timeline, “I mean,I can,I’m sure Jake can handle JJ too.” his friend just nodded in response.

Beatrice pursed her lips, “Roos…well, it’s just…last time you did this it was only Nikki…”

Rooster grinned, remembering the last time he took care of Nikki when she was the only child but hey, he could multitask. "Come on, Bea. I can handle it. They aren’t hard to work with, the twins are still months old and Nikki-." Nicole babbles happily, “Is Nikki. I can do this.”

Beatrice furrowed her brows, then rubbed her neck, “I’d take the offer,Bea.” Evelyn says, “We won’t have time otherwise.”

Beatrice sighed, looking at Rooster with hesitation. "Alright,” she sighs out,”...if you're sure you can handle it. Then alright."

Rooster chuckled, giving her hand a reassuring squeeze. "Trust me, it'll be a piece of cake. We'll have everything under control." he winks, “You’ll see.”

Evelyn smiled, looking from Rooster to Jake, cupping the Texan’s cheek. "Thanks, guys. It means a lot. With the game and all, we really need this time." she says, “You’ll be able to take Bea there too if need be,Rooster?”

"Consider it done," Rooster replied, "It’ll be easy, piece of cake like I said.” he could see in Beatrice’s eyes how much the idea of going back to Northride made her excited…and nervous and honestly he just wanted to help however he could, “You guys will be able to train without worries.”

“Maybe we can try to start around ten-thirty,Ev?”

Jake nodded in agreement. looking at Evelyn for confirmation. "Sounds good to me. JJ usually settles down around ten, after all."

"Hmmm…alright," Evelyn said, "Ten-thirty it is. We can meet at the gym, get some warm-up, later, yeah?"

Beatrice glanced at Rooster, who winked at her again. "Sounds good.” she grins, “And I know it’ll be fun. It always is.” she says, rubbing his knuckles gently before she parts her lips, “Should we carpool together?”

“Carpooling works for me.” Evelyn says “As long Shells isn’t the one driving.”

“Well, then I guess it’s settled in.”

Evelyn chimed in, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "Perfect.” she smiles, “Then,” she begins, “I’ll see you saturday.”

“Are you sure you can handle it?”

Rooster looks up from his coffee towards Beatrice, sans shirt, wearing only his jeans as he leans on the counter. Damn he’s making it really hard to leave, ‘Yep. The kids will be okay, gorgeous, you’ll be gone for one hour.” he smiles, then lifts his arm, offering his side to her, “C’mere you.”

Beatrice couldn't help but smile as she walked over to him, her fingers grazing the bare skin of his arm as she snuggled into his side. His warmth enveloped her, and his chin was propped on top of her head.

"Are you sure?One hour might feel like an eternity without me around."

Rooster chuckled, his deep voice vibrating through his chest. "Hmmm…as tempting as it is to keep you here with me…I'll survive, gorgeous. Just promise you'll hurry back. I'll be waiting right here for you."

She rolled her eyes with a playful smirk. "Don't get too comfortable without me, big guy."

“Big guy?”

“Well, you are big aren't you?”

His mouth drops as he leans his head back,giving her a look, “...listen here you minx.” and she giggles, walking around him to get her water. She was already wearing the shorts and his face curled in pain “Ugghhh, can Evelyn wait fifteen minutes? At least? You look so fuckin’ good.”

Beatrice laughed, a melodic sound that filled the room. "Roos, you know I can't keep Evelyn waiting. Besides, I'll be back before you know it." She reached for her water bottle, taking a sip before wrapping her arms around his neck. "And you're the one who said one hour is nothing, right?"

Rooster bit his lower lip,cupping her hips, right where the elastic of her shorts dug a little bit deeper on the softer flesh there "Yeah…but fuck gorgeous...."

“If you are nice and handle everything like you plan,” her voice breathy, running her fingers up and down his nape, making him shudder, “I’ll use this outfit again…and not only for the game.”

His pupils enlarge immediately, “Bea.”

“Is that a yes or no Lc?”

Rooster's gaze held a mixture of desire and longing as he absorbed Beatrice's teasing words. He cleared his throat, trying to regain some composure, but the want in his eyes betrayed his thoughts. "Alright, you've got yourself a deal, gorgeous," he replied, his hands tightening on her hips. "But you better make it worth the wait."

She leaned in, her lips brushing against his earlobe as she whispered, "Oh, I intend to, Lc." another shudder and a quiet ‘fuuck’ left his lips, “Gotta go!” she pecks his lips twice, “Love you!”

With a playful wink, Beatrice extricated herself from Rooster's embrace and headed towards the door, leaving him momentarily dazed. He just leans back against the counter and rubs his face up and down. He has to focus, so he does, at Jolene who is sitting cutely next to him, her big pittie head tilted as the door closes and he hears Bea’s jeep leaving the driveway.

“...yeah,she’s still messing with me,Jojo.” he chuckles, scratching the dog’s head, he checks the baby monitor app and makes sure the kids are still asleep, which they are, before he moves forward - stepping over a sleeping Jack, the dog barely noticing him moving above him- and looks at the list of things he has to do.

Rooster took a deep breath, his eyes scanning the list of tasks for the babies, mentally organizing his plan of action. The sound of Jolene's content sigh beside him served as a reminder that he wasn't alone in there "Alright, Jojo, let's get this show on the road," he mumbled to the dog, who wagged her tail as if agreeing with him.

His first stop was the nursery, where the twins were still sound asleep in their cribs. Rooster approached with a gentle step, trying not to disturb their slumber. He checked their diapers, ensuring they were dry and comfortable.

They were.

Nice.

Once the twins were content and cooing in their cribs, Rooster moved on to Nicole's room. He opened the door cautiously, expecting to find her still immersed in dreamland. However, he was met with wide awake, curious eyes that greeted him with a bright smile.

Rooster chuckled, scooping her up in his arms. "Well, you are up already huh?” his daughter just blinked, then yawned, stretching her little arms up, “Gotta check the diaper kiddo, c’mere.”

Rooster settled Nicole on the changing table, her tiny fingers reaching for the colorful mobile hanging above. He smiled at her, his fingers expertly undoing the tapes of her diaper. As he worked, he couldn't help but marvel at how much she had grown since her arrival.

"Alright, Nikki," he cooed, "let's make sure you're all clean and comfy." He made quick work of the diaper change, replacing it with a fresh one before planting a soft kiss on her forehead. Nicole giggled, her laughter echoing in the room.

With Nicole content in her freshly changed diaper, Rooster looked down at the list while holding the toddler’s hand as she spun herself back and forth.

‘Well, they are still asleep so,” he picks Nicole up with ease, “Let’s prepare your breakfast.” Nicole babbled, touching his mustache and slapping her tiny hand over his lips - like she always did - “Ow, hey,birdie,come on, you are getting heavy handed already.”

Rooster balanced Nicole on his hip, her laughter echoing through the quiet house. With the morning sunlight streaming through the windows, he made his way to the kitchen, mentally ticking off the tasks on the list. Jolene trotted alongside them, her tail wagging with excitement.

In the kitchen, Rooster set Nicole in her high chair, the colorful tray adorned with a variety of toys to keep her entertained. He reached for the ingredients to prepare her breakfast, all the while keeping his phone handy.

As he mixed together oatmeal and mashed bananas, Nicole eagerly kicked her legs, babbling in her own delightful language. Rooster couldn't help but smile at the pure joy radiating from his daughter. “Yep, there’ll be food soon enough,baby girl.” he tastes it for good measure, “There you go.”

While Nicole enjoyed her breakfast, Rooster turned his attention to the next item on the list—preparing bottles for the twins. He knew he had time, but he liked being prepare- he stops, wincing when Eleanor’s deep barks echoed from the living room door, “Jesus,” he hurries over, “Ellie,Ellie,calm down.”

He sees someone out there, a male figure? And he frowns, looking back into the kitchen briefly to make sure Nikki was alright, then exhaling as he opened the door. He didn’t even bother ot put on a shirt.

The person looks up at him and he blinks “...can I help you?”

“...oh uh–” oh he’s one of Marcus’ assistants, “Delivery for you guys, Mr.Beverly wanted you to have it as…uh…fresh out of the oven.”

That was a huge box. ‘Oh,” he grabs it from his hand, “Thank you,I…” he clears his throat, pushing Eleanor back, “Thank you, can you thank him for me?” the kid nods and scurries away,disappearing from his view as he closes the door.

He stares down at the box, honestly, Marcus gave them so much stuff it was crazy. He was an amazing fashion designer but…his favoritism was obvious. But he’d check on that later, now he had to make sure Nikki was okay.

And she was, eating some of the oatmeal with her rubber spoon,looking back at her father as he walks in, “Well, aren’t you a polite little one.” he chuckles, sitting down close to her with his body relaxing, “Soon enough you won’t need my help for anything baby girl.”

Ouch. No, that hurt a lot to think about.

He chews the inside of his cheek, tapping his fingers on the table…he still had a few more days left from his leave, then he’d have the promotion ceremony. Was he nervous?

Yes.

He was.

Rooster focused on his daughter, the laughter and babbling providing a temporary distraction from the thoughts that lingered in the back of his mind. He continued to feed Nicole,the twins, were still asleep, giving Rooster a small window of time to manage the morning routineHe glanced at the clock, calculating how much time he had before the twins would wake up demanding their share of attention.

A little while.

Rooster sighed as he observed Nicole, a bittersweet smile playing on his lips. "Hey there, birdie," he murmured, reaching out to ruffle Nicole's soft hair. "You're growing up too fast, you know that?"

Nicole giggled, her chubby cheeks dimpling as she continued to explore her breakfast. Rooster's mind, however, drifted to the passage of time and the inevitability of change. The realization that his little girl was becoming more independent each day tugged at his heart.

She was outgrowing some of her older clothes, Beatrice saved some and donated others but…Nicole was just so big. He smiles, almost sadly, as he holds his head up with his hand, watching as she feeds herself.

He is proud of her, very proud. As Nicole happily banged her spoon against the high chair tray, Rooster's thoughts shifted to the unexpected delivery from Marcus. The large box sat in the corner of the kitchen, a big black package that Jack lazily sniffed.

Curiosity piqued, Rooster decided to investigate the contents of the box after ensuring Nicole was content and full. He gently scooped her up, cradling her against his chest.

Rooster approached the box. With a practiced motion, he pulled the ribbon that kept it closed, open. And then handed it to Nicole just so she could play with it as he looked down at it.Stylish outfits for the kids to luxurious items for Beatrice, and himself Marcus had spared no expense.

He then noticed something in the corner, something…paper? A calendar? He tilted his head, digging his hand deeper and pulling it out…it was their photoshoot. They finally got the pictures - honestly he almost forgot about it.

He looked down at it then gasped.

“Oh I gotta tell Bea.”

OKAY we got a lot of doodles here.

First dump consists of a Grian and NPG doodle, some Rift Scarring ideas that me and @crafted-jelly made one day in DMs when discussing an AU, some miscellaneous doodles of Hermit shenanigans, references for my Keralis design and his lore, a little Watcher Grian, a multitude of Zedaphs, and concepts for Scar’s mayoral outfit without the purple coat and blue sash

Second doodle dump has my S9 Tango design before he got his actual skin, some baby Zed, some old Bdubs Angst, a few misc doodles for Overgrown (my Mycelium Takeover AU), some JumboTimes, then some Watcher Zed and Watcher Grian concepts (that are a tad outdated), and then some Tango backstory in the bottom corner

Third is a doodle dump for an AU that me and @aestheticallynotdeerlightful made, which is basically just a Hermitcraft x Pibby AU, mostly based on the /Pibby FNF mod more than the series itself, we just wanted to draw some messed up Hermits.

Fourth are designs for some kiddos! Hermes from Empires SMP, Willy Jr from Zed’s lore, Ranchers’ Revenge from Double Life, and Tiny Tom from the Hermempires crossover (even if it’s just Jimmy n Joel’s kid, he was given to Jevin).

Next thing is some Hermempires doodles. Top left is Jimmy finding Tango’s empire in an AU where Tango ended up in Empires rather than S9, some Villain Jimmy doodles for a hero AU i didn’t do anything with, a Ranchers Tangled AU because of course, Grian’s Hermempires fir, Doc n Lizzie interacting, and Villain Joel from earlier episodes of Empires S2

Next are some Gem doodles I did, trying to figure out some different designs.

Another Hermitcraft dump, this one uh....okay so the top left doodle is uh...it is a human. version of. Jeff the Minion. I was on a call with @micer2012, @shadesofvermillionvoid, and @psihawaii. And we were watching Starkid’s Black Friday, and at one point we all saw Uncle Wiley, heard his song, and agreed “yea that’s Jeff. So I was tasked with drawing him, but Della also drew him. Maybe this will convince her to post him. Other doodles here include the scrapped S9 Bdubs design, some Hermits of the Dark Void Impulse + employee costume design, a design for Phantom Pearl during Moon Big, and an Evil X floating in space.

Finally we got a bunch of Bdubs + a Celestial Big Eyes AU I made with Ros.

That got Long and I am sorry

Award Season is among us. Our reviewer Actor, Producer and Journalist Alex von Roon can't wait to check out the contenders starting off with HBO' s "Succession". How do you like Alexander as "Ken" in the Hit Movie "Barbie"? Von Roon did work with the director before and enjoyed her performance in "Greenberg"

“Your dad went there?” Bea asked as she followed Evelyn as she moved around after feeding JJ. The baby was sleeping peacefully in a bassinet not too far from them.

“Yep,something about ‘sometimes a vice-admiral has to step in.” she says while pushing her braids to the side, tucking some behind her ear “He didn’t appear worried though, so maybe there’s nothing wrong with Rooster’s mission. You know how it is—higher-ups checking in, making sure everything's running smoothly.”

Beatrice nodded,chewing her lower lip. "Yeah, that's true. He's been in the game for a long time. If there's something off, he'd probably pick up on it."

Evelyn glanced at Beatrice, concern flickering in her eyes. "You seem a bit on edge, Bea. Everything okay?"

Beatrice sighed, her shoulders slumping ever so slightly. "It's just... with Rooster deployed, and all this tension in the air, I can't help but worry. You–you know your dad better than anyone…should I be worried?"

Evelyn set the book she was about to put away down, her gaze meeting Beatrice's with a reassuring smile. "Bea, my dad has a knack for appearing calm even when the world is in chaos. It's part of the job, you know? But deep down, he's just as human as the rest of us. If something was seriously wrong, he'd probably let me know."

Beatrice nodded, appreciating the honesty in Evelyn's words, rubbing her arms. "I guess you're right. It's just hard not knowing, especially with everything that's been happening lately."

Evelyn moved closer,folding her arms as she leaned against the wall, “I know my dad is there because of the breach. That I’m sure.” she says as she looks back to where Shells was currently busy by flipping the channels on her tv, “But that is all I can safely assume.”

Evelyn's voice softened then “Rooster is a skilled pilot, and he's been through his fair share of missions. He knows how to handle himself."

The brunette nodded, rubbing her forehead. "I know, Ev. It's just...you know how it is. When it's someone you love, logic sometimes takes a backseat to emotions."

"Hey, that's completely understandable. We're all human, after all. Emotions are what make us who we are. Don't be too hard on yourself for feeling worried. It just means you care deeply."

Beatrice offered a small smile, appreciating the comfort in Evelyn's voice "Thanks, Ev. It's just a lot to process, especially with the kids and everything else."

Evelyn nodded in understanding. "You’ll be okay and if you need help you can always count on us, Shells, and me. We're all here for you."

Beatrice's gaze wandered to where Shells was engrossed in the TV, pursing her lips as she looked for something to watch "I appreciate that, Ev. I do."

Evelyn nodded, her gaze moving to where Wiley was, the cat took a liking to always sleep close to where JJ was. "I can't promise that everything will always be smooth sailing, but I can promise that you won't face it alone. Whatever happens."

Beatrice chuckled, wiping away a stray tear that escaped. "You always have a way of putting things into perspective, Ev. Thanks for being that anchor when I need it the most."

“Someone has to.” she smiles, “I’m the brains and Shells is the brawn.”

Shells,who didn’t care to be called as such, giggled gleefully in response while still going through channels.

Evelyn placed a comforting arm around Beatrice's shoulders. "Distance can be tough, especially when it feels like you're navigating storms on your own. But you two will be okay…also,what’s this I heard about your aunt Martha?"

Beatrice leaned into Evelyn's comfortable couch and she sighed, allowing the cushions to almost swallow her. "Aunt Martha is...well, she's Aunt Martha. You know how she is – cryptic, mysterious, and always dancing around things."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "And? Did she drop any hints or mystical advice about the current situation with Rooster and everything else?"

“She told me to be patient, to navigate storms, and to be careful. Classic Martha speak."

“Huh.”

"Yeah," Beatrice agreed, a thoughtful glint in her eyes. "She did mention something about navigating storms, metaphorical ones. It got me thinking."

Evelyn nodded, her gaze drifting to Shells, who was still engrossed in TV, occasionally flipping through channels with a playful hum. "About?"

Beatrice took a deep breath, the weight of her thoughts heavy in the air. "About life, I guess. About how it throws these storms at us."

Evelyn listened attentively, her gaze soft and understanding. "Life does have a way of testing us, doesn't it? But sometimes, it's about trusting that you have the strength to weather them, no matter how fierce they may be."

Beatrice nodded, a contemplative expression on her face. "Rooster has been my anchor through so many storms. Ever since the beginning." she pauses, “...I want him to be okay,Ev. He went through…so much, so much.’

Evelyn's gaze softened once more, and she tightened her arm around Beatrice. "He's a resilient guy, Bea. You've seen him face challenges head-on, and he's always come back stronger. I've seen the way he looks at you, the way he talks about you. Rooster is committed to weathering any storm with you and for you."

Beatrice's eyes shimmered as she leaned into Evelyn's embrace. "I know he is. It's just... This situation with Mark and Miranda, it's unsettling. And Aunt Martha's cryptic advice doesn't provide the clarity I wish it did."

Evelyn sighed, her fingers absentmindedly stroking Beatrice's hair. "Your aunt Martha has…her own way of guiding others. It might not always be straightforward, but her insights have a way of making sense in their own time."

"I hope so," Beatrice murmured, her gaze distant. "I just want everything to be okay. For Rooster to come back safely, for us to get through whatever this is."

"We all do, Bea."

"I guess we just have to take it one day at a time, and-"

Shells’ voice interrupted them as she tossed the remote away, “Evelyn you only have horror channels and one kid channel? How the hell are you going to raise JJ? Is there a Hellraiser for babies I don't know about?”

The sudden shift from the heartfelt conversation to Shells' comment brought a burst of laughter from the trio. Beatrice wiped away a lingering tear and chuckled, appreciating the comedic relief.

Evelyn rolled her eyes playfully. "You know, Shells, JJ is still a baby. Horror movies can be educational but you know I’d never put my son through that."

The laughter echoed in Evelyn's living room, temporarily dispelling the weight of the world. Shells, seemingly unaffected by the emotional conversation, grinned mischievously. "You're just limiting his potential, Ev.I know you too well, JJ could be the horror movie aficionado of his generation!"

Evelyn shook her head, her eyes dancing with amusement. "I'll save the horror movies for when he's a bit older. For now, we'll stick to age-appropriate cartoons."

Beatrice couldn't help but join in the laughter, the tension in her shoulders releasing a little. Her stomach felt iffy, she was still a bit anxious but decided to use this anxiety to message her parents and check on the kids. She excuses herself as she walks to Evelyn’s guest bathroom, locking the door behind her and then allowing her body to calm down.

She leans her back against the door, furrowing her brows with her phone on her chest, “It’s fine, everything is fine.” she whispers to herself, dialing her mother’s number, “We are all fine. We really are.”

Beatrice waited anxiously as the phone rang, each ring feeling like an eternity. Finally, her mother's warm voice answered on the other end.

"Tesoro, how are you?"

Beatrice took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. "I'm okay, Mama. Just needed to hear your voice. How's everything there?"

"We're all good here, sweetheart. Your papa is tinkering in the garage, and the twins napping. Nicole is watching tv, and the house is as lively as ever."

A small smile played on Beatrice's lips. "How's everyone holding up without me?"

Claudia chuckled, "Well,honey, it’s not like you are out of the country. We are all doing fine.”

Beatrice exhaled a sigh of relief. "I'm glad to hear that. You know, I'm grateful for your support and Papa's. It means the world to me."

Claudia's voice softened. "We love you, Beatrice. Always have, always will. We understand the challenges you and Rooster face, and we're here for you every step of the way."

A lump formed in Beatrice's throat. "I love you too, Mama. And thank you.”

Rooster remained focused on his duties, analyzing reports, conducting briefings, and ensuring the readiness of the squadron. They had a few hours before the mission so he took that time to…look at every single picture he had of Bea on his phone.

In one photo, they stood on a beach, the sun setting behind them, casting a warm glow. Beatrice's hair danced in the gentle breeze, and Rooster couldn't help but marvel at the serenity etched across her face.

Another photo showed Beatrice holdingNicole, in her arms. The sheer joy radiating from both mother and child made his hear flutter. Rooster traced his finger over the image, the longing for those moments intensifying as the weight of separation settled on his shoulders.

As Rooster continued his nostalgic journey through the photos, he stumbled upon an image from their wedding day. Beatrice looked breathtaking in her gown, her eyes locked with his in a promise of forever. Rooster couldn't help but smile, the memory of that day etched into his heart.

Sometimes, he’d go to sleep listening to their wedding playlist.

The sound of a knock on the door brought Rooster back to the present. McAllister poked his head in, a hint of a smile on his face. "We’ll leave in fifteen, sir."

Rooster nodded, locking his phone and tucking it into his pocket. "Thanks, McAllister. I'll be right there."

As McAllister left, Rooster took a moment to collect his thoughts. Then he steeled himself for the mission ahead, the echoes of their shared laughter lingering in his mind. He was already wearing his flight suit, all he had to do was get his helmet.

Rooster rose from his chair, the metal legs scraping against the floor as he stood. His mind, momentarily freed from the weight of command duties, lingered on the images of Beatrice.The room, adorned with maps, mission briefings, and the hum of the air conditioner, seemed to shrink into insignificance compared to the warmth those memories brought.

With a purposeful stride, Rooster made his way out and towards his jet.Familiar faces greeted him with nods and salutes as he walked ahead. Once he reached it,Rooster took a moment alone, gazing at the sleek fighter jet that awaited him on the tarmac.

No matter how many times he did this, he still had goosebumps knowing what he’d do. He was about to put his helmet on, stopping when he saw McAllister approaching him, “Sir! Sorry,Vice-Admiral Simpson wanted to talk to me.”

“Oh? What did Vice-Admiral Simpson want to discuss?"

McAllister shifted slightly,. "He wanted to go over some strategic points for the upcoming mission. He just told me to uh…do a good job.” he pauses, “And he said that you don’t need to know more because–”

“Because I already know, I get it.” Rooster nodded,chuckling to himself. "Alright, McAllister. I appreciate the heads-up. Anything else before we head off?”

McAllister hesitated for a moment, glancing around as if making sure no one was within earshot. He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. "Sir, there's something else. It's about Mark."

Rooster's expression tightened, the mention of Mark drawing his full attention. "What about him? "

McAllister's gaze held a mix of concern and uncertainty. "Sir, I've noticed some unusual behavior from Mark. He's been having private conversations with some of the recruits, and it seems... secretive. I overheard bits and pieces, sir, and it sounded like they were discussing something that goes beyond the usual mission chatter."

Rooster's brow furrowed, the weight of responsibility settling back onto his shoulders. "Private conversations, you say? Any idea what it might be about?"

McAllister nodded, swallowing nervously. "I can't say for sure, sir. But it sounded like they were involved in something outside the scope of our usual operations. And, well, Mark has been acting rather condescending and arrogant lately, like he's privy to some information the rest of us aren't."

Rooster's jaw clenched, his mind racing through the possibilities. The puzzle pieces seemed to be falling into place, aligning with the suspicions that had been lingering. "Condescending, arrogant, and secretive. Not exactly the qualities you want in a teammate."

"No, sir. It's been bothering me for a while, and with everything else going on, I thought it best to bring it to your attention," McAllister confessed, a sense of unease in his eyes.

Rooster appreciated McAllister's diligence. "You did the right thing, McAllister. I need to know what's going on with my team. We can't afford any internal disruptions, especially with a mission on the horizon."

"I just... I don't want to jump to conclusions, sir, but it feels off. And I've seen the way Mark looks at you, sir. There's something there," McAllister added, almost hesitantly.

Rooster's expression grew even more serious. "What do you mean, 'there's something there'?"

McAllister chose his words carefully. "It's like he resents you, sir. I don't know the specifics, but it's more than just professional disagreement. There's a personal element to it."

Rooster's gaze hardened, the implications sinking in. If Mark was involved in something beyond the squadron's knowledge, and if it had a personal angle involving Rooster, it added a layer of complexity to an already intricate situation.

"Keep an eye on him, McAllister," Rooster instructed, his tone firm. "Gather whatever information you can, discreetly. I want to know what he's up to, and if it poses a threat to the squadron."

"Yes, sir. I'll do my best," McAllister affirmed,quietly..

Rooster clapped McAllister on the shoulder. "Good man. Now, let's get ready for the mission. We'll deal with this when we have more information. For now, our focus is on the task at hand."
