𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗲? It was different than expected… On Nov 13th, I woke up at 3am literally drowning because my lungs had completely filled with fluid, (in an hour because of the C). Gasping for breath, I went into shock and began hallucinating. I started to see a light show of colors and stars like the milky way. And my skin turned cold and gray when my oxygen saturation levels dropped into the 60s. The machine giving me 8 liters of oxygen just wasn’t enough. And I would have been dead in minutes without more air. They flew me to Phoenix, where I was in and out of it for weeks without improvement in the ICU. 𝗔𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝘇𝘇𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗱𝗱𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗻𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲. While my resting heart rate is normally around 50 (because I’m a cycle racer) my heart was beating at 130 to 160 in a hospital bed (not sprinting to a finish line). I was so spent and exhausted just lying there. It felt like THE END many times! 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 – “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴:” 1. I wish I had lived my dreams instead of doing what others expected. 2. I wish I had focused less on work. 3. I wish I had more courage to express my feelings. 4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends. 5. I wish I had allowed myself to be happier. 𝗜 𝗪𝗮𝘀 𝗨𝗽𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲: I wanted to write more ads, have two more kids, and I was just going to die in this hospital room all alone and leave Joni a widow. The last day on earth

What if I told you, today was our last day on earth? What would you do? Can’t think one thing, right? You would want to –

Give yourself some time,

Hug your parents and tell them you love them,

Go and finally tell that one special person how you feel about them.

Tell your partner how lucky you are to be with them,

Play hide and seek with your kids,

Play one last game of pubg with your friends,

Eat panipuri at a stall and tell the bhaiyya that he’s the best,

Have that cup of tea alongside the daily newspaper,

Quit that job you’ve been struggling with.

Yell at your boss the way he has yelled at you number of times earlier.

Visit your gym or do yoga for the last time,

Watch one last episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S,

Scroll through Instagram one more time.

Update your Facebook status for the last time,

Take your dog out for a walk,

Experience the cool breeze touching your skin, and your hair.

Take a walk with your grandparents and read the newspaper to them,

Drive your car one last time,

Watch the sunset and fill your eyes with the beauty of it,

Thank all the people who make your life easy by just being in it,

Read your favorite book once more,

Pray to god, and thank him for a beautiful life.

Help the people in need and experience the power of empathy.

Tell your siblings you love them,

Help your mom wash the dishes,

Clean your desk one more time,

Be grateful for having a roof over your head and for the food you eat.

Meet your friends, crack stupid jokes together, laugh, fill your gallery with pictures!

Be sad about India not winning the world cup (or RCB not winning IPL)

Watch DDLJ one more time,

Listen to your playlist one more time,

Dance to the song you love,

Take a long, deep breath and let go slowly

Let go of the obsessions with the things or people from your past,

Step out of your comfort zone,

Gather the courage to break the stereotype,

For once, don’t think about what others will think,        

Do what your heart tells you,

Experience the sweet taste of liberty!

Ask yourself what your passion is,

Be brave enough to stand for yourself,

Revisit all the moments of your life,

Fail, and see how the first step to success feels like,

Have faith in yourself,

Don’t be afraid to imbibe a change in yourself,

Realize how important your life is,

Try to find inner peace,

Try to find your truer self,

Tell yourself, “You did good!”

The list doesn’t stop. But there’s the point. You shouldn’t have to wait for it to be the last day, to finally do these things. Why not today? If you do at least one thing from the above, you’ll know what being alive feels like. And it doesn’t have to be the last day, it can be the very first.

              When I sleep, I set alarm for the next day. I don’t know what tomorrow may bring, but I am sure that I want to get up and experience the day. Why do I do that? Because I have hope, that the next day is again going to be like a blank paper, which will be mine to fill. If there’s one thing no-one should take for granted, it’s life. Live every moment to its fullest, seize each special moment. That way, when it will actually be the last day on earth, your heart will be filled with pride, and not regret.

I received a lot of flak over my flights and travels today, however, there are people in this world who willingly decide for themselves and for their kids not to receive flu shots every single year knowing up to 30k people die in the US from the flu every year. I received my flu shot again this year and I didn’t get the flu. I can assure you I’m taking every precaution while traveling knowing this Coronavirus is a threat.
