Okay, honest question, who is Yotsuba?
OH HO HO ANON I AM ALL TOO HAPPY TO EXPLAIN :3
Yotsuba is a character from the greatest manga ever made, Yotsuba&!(or Yotsuba to! it translates weird, most fans just call it Yotsuba) which is a comedy slice-of-life manga about Yotsuba Koiwai, a five year old girl, and her very strange yet wholesome family and friends!
Tumblr media
It's from the same mangaka who gave us Azumanga Daioh, though while that manga is told in a four-panel comic style and doesn't really have much of an overarching plot, Youtsuba is done in a traditional manga style and despite also being very episodic there is a bit of a throughline surrounding Youtsuba getting settled into the neighborhood she just moved to, growing up, and eventually, in the later chapters, getting ready to go to school for the first time. Also, there are storylines that take place over multiple chapters as well! Despite the fact that the manga has been releasing since 2003, the chapters are pretty sporadic and the comic has only really covered about one year of the character's lives, but it never really feels slow or aimless. It feels almost...timeless? I guess. It's really nice.
Anyway, the manga is legit one of the most wholesome, funny, heartwarming things I have ever read. Kiyohiko Azuma is a fucking MASTER of comedy(you may have seen screencaps from a Sailor Moon fan comic he made going around on tumblr in which Jupiter accidentally sends Venus shooting across a pool that made me laugh so hard I cried) and he balances it well with lots of slow moments with GORGEOUS artwork where you can really take in the scenery and all of it is seeped in a wonderful nostalgia for childhood that legit makes me super emotional.
I don't think the manga has ever really taken off in terms of popularity, at least not to the degree that it deserves imo, which is likely in part due to the creator being firm about it never getting an anime adaptation and the sporadic release schedule, but it's far from unknown. There's been an official(I think??) score released and plenty of figurines and merch. It's also birthed a lot of memes, and it def has the same issue as One Piece where if you read it and love it you will turn into a walking billboard and try to drag your friends and family in with you. It's just THAT good!
You may have seen art of or people cosplaying Danbo, a "robot" made of old cardboard boxes that Yotsuba adores (Totally a real robot btw, def doesn't have a middle schooler shoved inside there, that would be silly wdym /s)
Tumblr media
And this pose from the back of one of the manga volumes featuring Yotsuba, her father, and their extremely tall friend Jumbo has been redrawn with other characters like 500000 billion times
Tumblr media
And you've also probably seen this going around tumblr before (that's Fūka she's my favorite cringe fail daughter I would literally die for her).
Tumblr media
Also, I would be doing a disservice if I didn't mention Yanda, who is a friend of Yotsuba's dad and also Yotsuba's nemesis. He's a loser who constantly gets dunked on by a toddler it's fucking hilarious.
Tumblr media
But yeah it really is just like, a manga that feels like a hug, or a warm blanket or something, it's so comforting and funny and fantastic, I find myself re-reading it any time life gets to be too hard just bcs it's that good at distracting me and reminding me that live is worth living.
And also given that it's literally my favorite manga, I saved up a bunch of screencaps to use as reaction images after a read one time, and thus now it's my own little joke that if you send me anon hate I'm just gonna send you back a picture of this cutie
Tumblr media
Bcs come on how can you be angry when you're looking at this???
Anyway here's some screencaps of the main supporting cast bcs I love all of them so much <3

YOU WILL READ YOTSUBA I AM NO LONGER ASKING

Announcement and Teaser
After a long hiatus, I am writing again. I am excited to inform you that the first chapter of my first ever series comes out at the end of this week.
It is a story I have been holding in my heart and thoughts for a long time now. Namely, my version of the backstory of Michikatsu's failed marriage.
It will be a deep dive into the complicated relationship between siblings, lovers, all in the confines of a time and a culture that did not leave room for emotional expression other than behind closed doors.
This story is important to me, as the Tsugikuni twins and their tragic fate have been an obsession of mine since the very first time I read the manga. I sincerely hope that you will follow me on this journey as the story unfolds.
I will be thrilled to hear your feedback and am open to plot discussions. Just pop in an Ask with a header Burn Up.
When a new day begins, the memory of the moon gets erased by the blazing rays of the sun.
TEASER BELOW (exerpt from Ch 2 or 3)
Tumblr media
‘Please sit, y/n. I will only be a moment.’ Yoriichi pointed politely with his large hand toward a stone bench under a large tree.
The sun wasn’t very strong yet and the air was still saturated with the residue moisture of the cooler night. It was a lovely morning, of the day before your wedding. You were glad you could spend it with Michikatsu’s quiet but amiable brother.
As he walked away, leaving you alone for a moment, you got seated in the cooling shade of the large platan next to the fenced-off paddock, your attention turned toward your surroundings. Inside the enclosure, it strolled a shapely white mare. The horse seemed friendly and walked up to you when you stood up and came closer to the fence. It was round at its hunches, with a noble small head and big eyes. The silky straight dove white mane was fluttering in the light breeze.
But, all of a sudden, the horse was startled. In a blink of an eye, it neighed, thrust its head up in the air, and trotted skittishly into the middle of the paddock. You did not understand what would cause such a change in the horse’s demeanor until you looked toward the stables. Out of the wide entrance, came Yoriichi, leading a large raven black stallion. He was holding the horse firmly by the reign at its mouth. The horse was a thing of beauty and you could not take your eyes away from it.
Large, with powerful hunches, black hide glistening like polished ebony in the warm rays of morning sun, huge hooves, covered with feather of black hair, and a long, fierce head with dark chestnut, almost maroon eyes. Its mane and tail were thick, long, and wavy. The mane was blending with Yoriichi’s equally huge and wavy hair. For a moment you had to look away as a faint blush began to sprout on your cheeks.
But then your eyes were drawn as in trance back to the sight in front of you. Yoriichi’s ponytail was swinging side to side in time with the horse's tail. And … what showed itself, you were not the only one blushing. His blush grew stronger, making him look truly adorable, creating such a stark contrast to his large frame and masculine features.
‘I wish to apologise for what you are about to witness, y/n. I did not think before I made the offer to look after you today. But this, well, process, cannot wait. The mare needs to be inseminated today as her owners are going back to their estate this afternoon. I am truly sorry about this.’
He looked down at his feet and turned his gaze to the side, fidgeting uncomfortably with the reigns.
‘Oh, but Yoriichi-sama. I do not mind. This is the nature of farm work and I am no stranger to farming. Please, do not apologise.’
At the same time, in your mind, an apology to the gods was already forming as you felt wetness pool between your legs. Yoriichi’s presence caused you to imagine things… Things a soon-to-be bride of another man, let alone a twin of Yoriichi, should not imagine. It was wrong on so many levels but Yoriichi’s kindness, timid and respectful behaviour were triggering these thoughts in a way Michikatsu’s presence never could.

Giorno
Giorno is stuck in the middle of an intense moral dilemma. If it’s just the two of you, he’d rather not embarrass you by pointing it out; he’d use his Stand to pull down your skirt on the sly. He doesn’t want you to think he’s been ogling you and that’s how he happened to notice the malfunction. In the moment, he’s honestly so concerned about navigating this with decorum that he forgets to get flustered. It isn’t until later when he lays down for the night that the weight of the situation hits him. He feels like he’s disrespecting you somehow by letting his thoughts wander and does his best to think about anything else, takes a cold shower and everything. Almost loses it on the spot when your Stand gives him a knowing thumbs up the following day.
Bruno
Bruno is similar to Giorno where he prioritizes not wanting to make you uncomfortable in any way. While he’s trying to figure out what to do, he’ll be damned if he lets anyone wander into your general vicinity. He radiates the most ominous aura to keep others at bay. He fights every instinct in his body not to stare and admire the skin he isn’t used to seeing. Bruno already feels guilty for harboring romantic feelings for you in the first place, seeing as you’re his subordinate. This definitely isn’t helping. You’re over there smiling and making jokes while he’s struggling to remember how to breathe. Ends up shedding his blazer and throwing it over your shoulders, unable to take the stress any longer. The end of one crisis ends up inadvertently causing another. Bruno learns that day that he really likes how his clothes look on you.
Fugo
Fugo starts sputtering, trying (and failing) to string together a coherent sentence. He’s landed in this situation a few times ever since you started rooming together, summer being especially dangerous. He honestly has no idea what to do with himself when you’re walking around in a tank top and short shorts. Ends up getting mad at you and your stupidly attractive body, but is even more upset with himself for how easily it riles him up. It’s just a little bit of skin, why can’t he control himself? He’s above such boorish behavior! Probably. You’re none the wiser to his tribulations and assume he’s just glaring at you because you forgot to take the trash out or something. Will only inform you of the malfunction if you’re planning to go out — he’s not letting anyone else get treated to such a view. Fugo ends up having to pantomime the issue to you because his tongue simply will not form words. He cannot look you in the eyes for the next few days.
Mista
Mista is uncertain if this is a blessing from God or a trial from the devil. He’s being allowed to view a little glimpse of heaven, yet the cost is steep; what if you catch onto his staring and piece everything together? You’d probably write him off as a creep. Then his chances with you would be ruined forever unless you got hit with a memory-erasing Stand. It’s unusual for him to be perturbed by anything, he’s normally so relaxed. He would be if this was happening with literally anyone else but you. Since you’re involved, he needs to use like, tact or whatever. It’s rough. Eventually, he brings you close with an arm around your shoulders and whispers what the problem is. He’ll eagerly offer to help in any way you need it.
Narancia
He goes to cover his eyes with his hands... but then splays his fingers so he can still see. Only a peek. You’ll find out what’s going on the fastest with him. Narancia just can’t keep his thoughts inside his head when you’re involved. It’s difficult to tell who is the most embarrassed between the two of you. He’s apologizing, you’re apologizing, it’s developing into quite the scene. It doesn’t help that he swears to stab anyone who walks by to preserve your honor. You have to convince him to put the knife away while readjusting your traitorous outfit. After the heat of the moment has passed, he dejectedly asks if you hate him now. Please reassure him that he did nothing wrong or he’ll be sad for ages.
Abbacchio
Surprisingly has the most composed response somehow? He knows how the rest of his team gets when they’re around you, it’s like the caveman part of their brain takes over. Abbacchio likes to think he’s better than that. He’ll call you over and calmly explain what the issue is. He doesn’t beat around the bush but he’s not crude either. If you’re out and it’s something you can’t fix right away, he’ll offer to go buy you a hoodie or whatever. It might be a little mean of him to admit, but it’s kinda cute watching you get flustered over the whole ordeal. Though he’s nice enough not to tease you about it in the moment, expect him to bring it up every now and then whenever you start pestering him too much.

“Hey,” Todoroki reached out, gaining Bakugou’s attention. “I love you.”
Immediately, the blonde’s face flushed a vivid shade of red. Eyes wide, he sputtered before twisting around, ducking into himself with his arms folded tightly over his chest.
“F-Fuck, IcyHot! Don’t just say shit like that without warning!” He growled, ears red as berries.
It was so endearing, watching Bakugou get flustered over the smallest gestures of affection. Originally, Todoroki was rather hurt by the response, but once he realized it was out of pure fluster, that confused hurt turned to pure devious enjoyment.
Leaning in, he prodded the blushing boy’s shoulder. “Hey, say it back.”
“Fuck off!”
“Say you love me, Katsuki.” He smiled a little smile, eyes dancing. “You said it before, remember?”
“Go away! I’m not saying shit!” Bakugou shrunk more, his entire face pink. The memory of the accidental slip up hung between them- Todoroki getting so mad at the Kimchi jar he threw it out a window, watching it explode open. The whole thing was so stupid it made Bakugou laugh hysterically, doubled over with tears of mirth in his eyes.
“Oohoho my god! I fucking love you, Shoto!”
Laughter got choked off, shock set in along with a fairly bright blush, and Todoroki had been craving those words ever since.
The problem was just getting Bakugou to say it!
“Should I throw another jar of Kimchi onto the pavement?” Todoroki asked, watching the way Bakuogu’s lips twitched. “I don’t think Mr. Aizawa would be happy if I did.”
“Don’t waste food, idiot.” Bakugou huffed, turning his head away when Todoroki went to peek. Opportunity was before him.
“Then say you love me.” Todoroki poked his ribs, grinning when Bakugou jumped, sucking in a breath. “I’ll throw a hundred jars of Kimchi out the window if that’s what it takes.”
“Gah- N-No! Stop that! Don’t fucking to-ouch me!” Bakugou squirmed at each poke, his lips wobbling into a smile as he tried blocking out the other’s hand with his arm. His face was still turned away though, making his aim off. Todoroki added a finger.
“Tell me you love me first.” Poke, poke poke.
“Fuuuhuhck you!”
“I love you. I think you’re great.”
“Shoohohoto!”
“I want to spend my days with you. I want to breathe the air you breathe.”
“That wahahahs stuuhuhhupid!” Bakugou let out a cross up of a genuine laugh and a tickle one, his hand slapping over his ribs protectively.
“Was it? I got it from one of those romance manga you read.” Todoroki teased, moving down to Bakugou’s hip, throwing all caution to the wind as he gave it a friendly squeeze. “I swear I remember you swooning over it at the time.”
“Shiihihihihihit!” Bakugou swore as he fell back into Todoroki’s chest, laughing helplessly as he tried prying his hand off his hip. Now that he had captured his target, Todoroki brought his other hand into the mix, drilling his fingers into the middle of his ribs. “Fuhuhuhuhuck ohohohohohoff, Iihihiihiihicy hoohoohoohohot!”
“Tell me that you love me.” Todoroki grinned, thinking of the tiktok Uraraka sent him the other day. “Tell me that I take your breath away.”
“Doohoohohohn’t fuhuhuhuhucking quote tihiiihiihktohoohohoks! Ahehahahahhaa, Ihiihihihcy hhoohoohohohohot!”
“It’s Icy Thot on Thursdays.”
“Shuhuhuhuuhhut uhuhuuhuuhp!”
“Just say you love me.” Todoroki teased, bringing both hands to Bakugou’s hips, making him arch with a squeal. “Then it’d be all over.”
“Nehehehehhehever!” Bakugou declared;  his next move unpredictable. He shot his hands out, grabbing Todoroki’s thigh just above the knee. Then he squeezed.
“Ah!” Todoroki yelped, spasming. Bakugou took his chance.
Diving forward, he grabbed his boyfriend’s ankle, drilling into the socked sole. “Come on then, tell me you love me! Come on, say it!” Bakugou mimicked, laughing when the other shrieked, flailing behind him and kicking him with his free foot. “What’s wrong? Too shy, Hot Pocket?”
“GEHAHHAHAHHAHA! KAHAHAHAHAHAHTSUUHUHUHKI! AAHEHHAHAHHAHA, STHAHAHAHP THAHAHHAHAT!” Todoroki howled in mirth, tears blinding his vision as he tried to wrench his foot out of Bakugou’s tough grip. This was not how he planned it- not at all! Sitting up when he could, he tried grabbing the back of Bakugou’s shirt- his hair, anything to pull him off, but the other was adamant on tickling the snot out of him. “COOHOOHOHME OHOOHOHOHON, HAHAHHAVE MEHEHHERCY!”
“You wish!” Bakugou laughed, grinning over his shoulder.
Fine then- last resort it was.
Making his hand extra cold, he reached out and shoved it up Bakugou back, making the blonde squeal and fly off the bed. Unfortunately for Todoroki, his foot was still in his hold, meaning they both came crashing to the floor. He grabbed onto the sheets for security, but that proved only to be his downfall as they came down with him.
Blinded, breathless, with his pride beaten, Todoroki gasped for air as he heard Bakugou swear, looking for freedom in their trapped state. “If you fucking fart, I’ll kick your ass.” He heard him mumble, the thought was enough to send Todoroki into a fresh fit of laughter. Finally, the sheets were removed, light momentarily blinding him before Bakuogu’s head loomed over, a mild scowl on his face. “Asshole.”
“Pfft- gehahahahahhaha!” Todoroki couldn’t even form words, laughing too hard at the whole scenario. He covered his mouth as a snort escaped, squeezing his eyes shut as more came out. Bakugou’s scowl melted into a grin as he laughed, shoving the other gently.
“Hey, giggle box- you’re not hurt, are you?” He looked over his shoulder at their tangled limbs, nodding in satisfaction when he saw no injury. “Ugh, you’re such a dork, you know that?”
“Wohoohrth it.” Todoroki smiled, finally starting to calm down. Looking up at his boyfriend, he reached up, running a hand against his cheek. “I do love you. Truly.”
Bakugou blushed, but this time he didn’t look away or fuss. Instead, he sighed, leaning into his hand with a small grin. “I love you too, Icy Hot.”
Todoroki’s heart raced, but it was missing something. “Say it again.”
“So needy.” Bakugou shook his head with a snort. “Fine.” Leaning down, he got close enough that they were nose to nose. “I love you, Shoto.” He finished the statement with a kiss on the lips, so gentle it was like a feather. “Happy?”
Todoroki’s face was warm, as was his heart. He leaned up and kissed the other back, grinning at the shocked blush spreading over Bakugou’s face once more. “With you? Always.”
Thanks for reading!

Did you hear of the news?
I have. :(
Everyone else has their tributes so, here, a summary of my experience with Dragon Ball.
I was in fourth grade art class. A kid had the February 2005 issue of Shonen Jump, back when Shonen Jump was still physically printed here. I recognized Atem on the front cover because the Blockbuster around the corner from our house had DVDs (I think they were DVDs and not VHSs then since I distinctly remember it having a menu and special features) of some of the later episodes of Duelist Kingdom and my brother and I watched them on repeat. So I was like oh, hey, what's this? They make books of that stuff? I don't remember the conversation but the kid ended up giving me that issue, and I took it home with me.
There were a LOT of significant, groundwork things happening in that issue, now that I think about it. We were just beginning to see Sanji truly in action against Pearl. The Dark Tournament was in it's early stages still with Roto fucking around and finding out against Kurama. Sakura shears off her hair in a move that rearranged sexualities the world over. The reason Atem was on the cover was because Yu-Gi-Oh Millennium World was just debuting its first and second chapter. Bleach wasn't even serialized yet. And Dragon Ball, of course, was also there, about a hundred and fifty chapters ahead of everybody else.
Keep in mind that this was my first experience with manga, period. So my very first experience with Dragon Ball opened on this:
Tumblr media
and ended on this:
Tumblr media
Yeah. Truth be told, at the time Yu Yu Hakusho piqued my interest more than Dragon Ball (a guy fighting with plants? how creative!) but I never did forget these chapters. I thought the art style was so different from the others.
At some point after this, probably between several months and a year and a half, the TV happened to be on one evening when Toonami was airing Dragon Ball Z. Oh hey, I said, I recognize that art, I know those characters. So I hung around and watched some of episode 281. Two things about watching that episode stick with absolute crystal clarity in my mind to this day. Firstly: Buu choking Vegeta out with his arm freaked me the FUCK out as a child. I could not tell you why I had a fear reaction to it but hey, there you go. The second is this:
Specifically I remember 'You died once. If anything happens to you now, you won't exist anymore. There'll be nothing I can do to bring you back.' Not precisely word for word over the years, but Schemmel's tone of voice on this particular lineread. If I had to guess I'd say it was because at that point in my life, uh, death was kinda permanent? So wait, what do you mean died ONCE. Doesn't that apply to everyone?
This still wasn't enough to get me super invested in it though, it just didn't seem like something that would appeal to me that much. So a couple years go by, I don't think about it all that much, and then of course, TFS hits the scene and drops DBZ Abridged. So you know. As a shithead middle schooler with a shithead sense of humor I thought it was the best damn thing since sliced bread. (My biggest character flaw is that I still think a lot of Season 1 is genuinely funny)
And that was really the extent of my interaction with the franchise for the next several years. Say what you will about DBZA but they did manage to put it all together such that someone who had a nonexistent concept of what the original context was could grok it with not a lot of effort. Some time in high school, I think I was around 15, I decided to bite the bullet and read all the manga, as much to increase the funny factor of DBZA as sheerly for the sake of being able to say I had. Stick it to the other weebs, y'know. Now they can't say I didn't know anything about good anime. This was unfortunately at a time when all that was available online were dirty poor-quality scans and questionable translations, but read it I did. I went 'yep, that sure is about what I expected', and proceeded to get on with my life. GT came and went, I looked up and saw Battle of Gods coming out and went 'oh hey that's still a thing huh', kinda was peripherally aware of all the divisiveness of Super as it was happening, didn't really pay it much attention, just stuck to DBZA and quite a lot of wiki-ing.
And then, this time of year about three years ago now, in the middle of conversation with @prophecydungeon, Dragon Ball somehow came up. Something to do with 'Even though I'm not hugely into DBZ's story or whatever Toriyama does have some great character designs' (yes I was referring to Vegeta and Future Trunks at the time, no i will not stop being predictable, yes i am a parody of myself). They eventually brought up the DBS Broly movie and said, and i quote: 'that was a solid 1.5h of unbelievably fun and wacky animation'. Having seen the Gogeta vs Broly part of it on twitter and been like 'damn that animation's kinda off the hook actually, good for them good for them', my response was to be like. Oh word? I've got a spare hour and a half to kill, sure, fuck it, why not, time to watch DBS Broly.
I think that movie was precision crafted to hit me in the hyperfixation, if we're being honest. Opening on a solid 20 minutes of Lore and Worldbuilding and then having most of the rest of the runtime being mindless slobberknocker fun by way of some of the hardest animation flexes ever? I was done for.
In summation. I have been aware of Dragon Ball for a lot of my life, in that its presence was pervasive and enduring as I grew up. I may have been late to the game of actually wholeheartedly enjoying it, but enjoy it I do. Dragon Ball is the roots of a vast tree of anime, and in reading it I began to understand why that is. I respect it for that, and I love it for that. My current fixation may have shifted, but as far as time devoted to one individual thing goes... it took me a year and a half to watch my way through all of the anime and read all of the manga. ALL of it. So there's something good in there, I'd say.

Bakugou and Midoriya's Relationship Pre-main-cannon Analysis
Ok so I keep reading posts where people seem to think Bakugou has hard-core bullied Izuku for 10 straight years and Im here to squash that. So a kinda analysis of their relationship though the years based off what we know and all major shifts that I think happen based off cannon. As well as some inferred just based off how kids act at certain ages.
Relationship Timeline Guestimation:
Tumblr media
This is my best guess on a timeline towards each other.
I would say the biggest guess in this is when the passive bullying actually started. Im guessing end of elementary and start of junior high just based off how kids usually are at that age (friendships shift, preteens try to be cool, purberty starts, ect.)
The biggest theme to their whole relationship is miscommunication so I labeled the timeline based off what an outside POV might label their relationship.
Preschool
Activity regular friends without Katsuki being a massive jerk. Before quirks and then Katsuki gets a big head ect. Most of that is covered extensively in flashbacks in the manga so Im gona gloss over this era.
Elementary
There's not a lot thats been shown directly at this time beyond what we've been shown in the manga (ie Izuku being nicknamed deku). So slightly inferred just based off their personalities and overall age.
Theyre actively friends but Katsuki gets worst and worst through the years and more distant. Though they actually have interations. Plus both these boys are so stubborn that I think theyed stay friendsish through elementary.
So we know they interacted and were around each other:
Tumblr media
They were both friends at this point or at least like playmates and I think would continue through a lot of elementary especially early elementary.
Cause its not like Katsuki was popular with most people unsurprisingly:
Tumblr media
Even if Katsuki really didnt want it, I think Izuku was one of the only friends that actively showed he cared about him. Even if he really didn't want it.
But with Katsukis insecurities and his kinda warped view of Izuku their friendship was pretty off and on again. Basically at this point in their relationship they both think the other is a slightly jerky friend but still actively care for each other. They get on each others nerves but still consider the other a friend. Also cause theyre in elementary, kids usually just play with whoever is closest and available. Since they lived in the same neiborhood and both have no sibling they would probably be first available for each other, inspite of feelings or insecurities.
Eventually though Katsukis insecurities would win out. (Which to note those really only ever come up when comparisons can come into play or when Katsuki could be precieved as needing help). And Katsuki has the same self awareness emotionally as a cat whos head is stuck in a bag. So he projects those insecurities hard onto Izuku, instead of actual self reflection.
To sum up elementary:
Tumblr media
Early Middle School
Turning point from my guess is when Izuku tries to stand up to Katsuki and I think this is where they officially end any friendship and the bullying towards Izuku officially starts. I interpret this scene as either later elementary school or early middle school based off the lankyness of everybody:
Tumblr media
So middle of middle school and note that Izuku isnt as actively freaked out by Katsuki approaching. So Katsuki after whenever he beat-up Izuku essentially reaffirm to himself that Izuku cant be a threat, and that he is still the best. Thus calm Katsuki at the start of Middle School. Still a jerk whenever he sees Izuku but doesnt seem to feel the need to actually seek him out. Mostly just dismissive belittling.
Plus no full on Baku-rage directed at Izuku:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course as anything hero related starts to come up and Izuku ends up doing his normal thing. Katsuki, like always, gets triggered cause Izuku hits every insecuritie he has.
Turning point happens when Katsuki feels threatened by Izuku again:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thus Baku-rage is officially engaged! And series starts!

Hello, can I ask what do you mean "in canon it's impossible for Sherlock to settle down with a woman"? Like, as a fan of Holmes and always read the books since middle school, I'm kinda confuse here, I don't mean anything negative. Sorry, do you think Poirot (from Agatha Christie) is also queer?
Maybe because I grew up with very religious mother and lived in anti-LGBTQ country, I'm kinda slow in picking up subtext. Like until now I'm still kinda confuse with my friend who have ships from any fandoms (but I still love to hear and read her headcanons or fics about those characters)....
I really agree with you, I've seen many Holmes' adaptations (cartoon, tv series, manga) but Yuumori is clearly the closest to Doyle's works. Do you think the mangaka also love to read Holmes' books?
Story time! (Welcome to "Hyper answers asks like an old lady going on an hour long barely-on-topic tangent at the slightest prompting.)
I totally get where you're coming from, I was raised in like...knockoff Southern Baptist churches. Growing up, homosexuality was presented to me as a sexual perversion incapable of involving real love. It's kind of silly, but it's true: a ship was a big part of changing that for me. I read Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle as a teenager, and Kurogane and Fai had something that was inescapably romantic and beautiful but never strictly sexual (tho the potential is certainly there). Between that and an online community of LGBTQ+ adults who were incredibly patient and kind towards me even when I was suuuuper ignorant, I started to open up towards queer relationships as...well, just relationships. Relationships that can encompass sex and also encompass love and friendship and communication and partnership and all those other things I'd been taught were exclusive to monogamous straight people. And then, even as terrified as I was, I was eventually able to face the fact that I'd always had crushes on girls just as often as crushes on guys. So yeah, there's a reason Kurofai is my ship of all ships, the actual One True Pairing for me. Because it cracked open a door just enough that I could slowly lever it open the rest of the way. There seem to be quite a lot of anecdotes like this: women enjoying BL/mlm ships is often seen as fetishy (which can certainly be part of it) but for some reason I can't fully articulate it also seems to sometimes be a means for girls and women to explore their own not-straightness.
ANYWAY. SHERLOCK HOLMES. Tbh I'm not gonna go too in-depth because I would bet good money that there are a bunch of scholarly articles on Holmes' queerness. People have probably done their doctorate theses on this! Much smarter and more well-read folks than I have already covered the topic. For me, it really boils down to: he never outright expresses sexual or romantic interest in anyone (we must resist the urge to assume his respect for Irene Adler is romantic just because he is a man and she is a woman). He's almost certainly on the asexual spectrum. But when he does exhibit symptoms one might associate with romantic and/or sexual interest (particularly romantic, imo), it's always towards men (usually Watson, of course). For example, notable flirt John Watson saying that Holmes blushes at his compliments the way a girl does is...suggestive.
The whole thing is complicated by Watson being (in my opinion at least) an unreliable and sometimes downright petty narrator. He keeps going on spiels about Holmes being cold and heartless, only to turn around and describe him greeting his friends warmly and being emotionally moved by music and baby-talking puppies and charming old ladies. It makes Watson sometimes come across as one of those allo people who are so unable to conceive of a life without romantic and/or sexual desire that they start dehumanizing those who don't experience it. Alternatively and maybe more charitably, he just has a big ol' crush on Holmes, is understandably alarmed by it given the time period, and gets bitchy and defensive when he feels it might not be reciprocated.
But ultimately...do I think Arthur Conan Doyle sat down at a desk in the late 19th century/early 20th century and was like "I am going to write some ace queer representation for the tumblr girlies (gn)"? Obviously not. 😅 I do think he might have set out to create a character who very deliberately did not need to have the otherwise almost obligatory straight romantic side-plot. Holmes is never in any way set up as having a life headed towards marriage and children, in spite of how typical that was for the time. The companionship he does express a need and desire for comes in the form of another man. He's "lost without [his] Boswell." He sneakily buys Watson's practice out from under him so he'll be free to move back in and go on more adventures with him. He threatens violence when Watson is hurt. Etc etc. I think it's very fair to interpret it all through a queer lens, the quibble would be more in whether that queerness ever manifests sexually.
I definitely think the Yuumori creators have not only read ACD but also other fiction based on the stories, possibly even including some very old pastiches like this one. I love how seemingly nerdy they are about it haha! The series is full of easter eggs and callouts to other Holmesian works.
As for Poirot, I know very little about the character beyond a few episodes of the show I watched as a young'un, but that is not the mustache of a straight man (I'm joking I'm joking I have absolutely no opinion on that one! 🤣)
Thanks for the ask, and for actually reading this ramble if you got this far! 😅

I apologise in advance for how feral I'll be when Vol 3 of the LNs comes out and gets translated. kunigami lore aaaaaaaaaaa
Hoshi shared translations of the titles yesterday! So to fuel some hype, here's some speculation about what each part of the light novel will focus on.
Here's an index of existing fan translations of the two published light novels. I'd recommend reading them: they're short and enjoyable. Although a lot of the content has been covered or referenced by the mangas and Egoist Bible, there's some new trivia about your faves in there too like baby Isagi being able to predict the weather 🌦️
Tumblr media
1. Niko Ikki: "Immersion"
Tumblr media
I'm not a Niko stan (I don't dislike him! I just have other faves), so this is the hardest entry for me to conceptualise in terms of theme or story. If anyone with a better grasp on his character would like to chip in, be my guest!
Niko has the following key character traits:
➡️ he's the youngest of the characters introduced so far;
➡️he's something of an underdog;
➡️ he enjoy a particular rivalry with Isagi, as (in Isagi's words) they have the same eyes and brain;
➡️ Niko appears to be fairly introverted, enjoying games and anime/manga; and
➡️ A defining trait is his insecurity about his forehead.
Some further thoughts on what Niko's entry might feature:
🔵 "Immersion" may refer to how Niko loses himself in football: both in terms of how he goes unnoticed by his opponents and how involved he gets in the sport. That's my best guess! I'm stumped otherwise.
🔵 I anticipate there will be some rival or potential bully Niko has to overcome, using his wits and intelligence. Maybe he has to prove himself to a dismissive school football club?
🔵 His tactic early in Blue Lock is to use more physical players (such as Oikawa and Zantetsu) to score goals for his team, acting as the playmaker. The LN may elaborate on how he developed this strategy.
🔵 The forehead thing just has to be a teenage complex around acne or something, right? I don't think it's more serious than that, given how much the writer and mangaka joke about it (see: forehead kanji on the Vol 25 manga cover).
🔵 I don't think we'll be seeing Niko spotting mosquitos across the room... but the LN will likely comment on his good vision/spacial awareness also.
2. Kunigami Rensuke: "Rule"
Kunigami's light novel will be a prequel, same as all the others. While we won't get any hints about Wild Card (🥹) it's likely we'll learn about:
🟠 How his desire to become a football superhero came to be. The main manga suggests this came from him watching footballers on TV while young.
🟠 His family. Kunigami is a middle child, with two sisters. What's their family dynamic like? Does he get on with his sisters and parents?
▶️ A theory: being the middle child and only boy is one reason Kunigami goes by the saying, "fair and square". His parents enforced that message so their three children would get along!
🟠 Explanation for his personality traits. The LN might explore the rationale for his protective nature. Perhaps Kunigami was raised with the notion of looking out for his sisters, which extends to his friends and teammates in Blue Lock.
🟠 The LN will likely show how Kunigami fared as a striker in high school. Given how good he is starting out in Blue Lock, dude must have been a beast on his school team.
Overall, I'm praying Kunigami's entry is light-hearted. Our grumpy orange goes through enough angst in canon - he deserves some happiness before coming to Blue Lock 😭 I think the odds of this are actually pretty good, because if there's an angsty entry in this volume, then that's gonna be...
🟠 Lastly, the title (Rule) likely refers to his "fair and square" motto. Kunigami lives a very regimented life in Blue Lock (eat, train, play football, train some more, shower and sleep). Perhaps the focus of the LN will be how he developed that willpower and dedication.
Tumblr media
3. Hiori Yo: "NEW GAME"
Hiori's LN entry is the easiest one to anticipate, since chapter 206 gave a fairly detailed account of his upbringing and family life.
"NEW GAME" is likely in reference to his enjoyment of video games (how these acted as a means of escape for him) as well as how Blue Lock represented a new life away from his overbearing parents.
Here are some of my expectations (sorry Hiori 💔) for his entry:
🔵 a retelling of the events of chapter 206, focussing on Hiori's injury and his discovery of his parents' discontent.
🔵 an exploration of the impact his pushy parents had on his personality and enjoyment of sports.
🔵 backstory about Hiori and Karasu's friendship/rivalry! For example, did Karasu ever target Hiori as the "weakest link" of a team? I'd be surprised if he doesn't show up - the Wanima twins appeared in Chigiri's novel, as did Sae in Rin's.
⚽⚽⚽
I'd love to hear people's thoughts about this! I'm looking forward to these getting a release, even if it'll be some time before I can actually read them. The illustrations alone are a treat - in the first two volumes, these were completed by Sannomiya-sensei, the mangaka for Episode Nagi.

Tsukutabe Vol 3 English Release, A Review!
A few days ago I was finally able to get my hands on the long awaited third volume of the Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna (She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat) manga! Here are some of my thoughts - first, no spoilers, and then under a readmore I'll discuss some specific scenes I really liked.
I was very excited to finally read ahead - since the TV live action adaptation covers the same plot points as the first two volumes of the manga, and since there are basically 0 spoilers floating over from the jp fandom into my periphery, I truly had no idea where it was going. And what can I say but it was an absolute delight.
Like in volume 2, we are keeping a balance of the silly, everyday life of Nomoto & Kasuga and their cooking adventures, interspersed with quite serious, even dark moments in their personal lives. In fact, this volume features probably the darkest scenes in the series yet, more on that in the spoiler section later, but I truly had tears in my eyes for a bit. However I love how the focus when discussing these serious topics is always on the character and their feelings in the moment - how they can recognize what's been in their past, and how they've been able to move on and find happiness again, expressing a desire to do so. They've been hurt in their lives - mostly by their families that they've left behind, or by coworkers and strangers - but they are allowed to work through those feelings, take no shit, and say "No, I deserve better than this." There's also more focus again on LGBT advocacy now, with Nomoto coming out (to herself) at the end of volume 2, we now see her try to get comfortable with the lesbian label and how it affects her. There's also discussion on asexuality and its many shades, which I really appreciated!
The biggest change in volume 3 is the addition of two new characters - Yako-san, one of Nomoto's online friends who starts to become a bigger part of her life when Nomoto starts opening up about her sexuality; and Nagumo Sena, who is their "middle neighbor", the person who moved into the apartment between Nomoto & Kasuga that's been empty for the previous two volumes. Nagumo starts to befriend Kasuga when the two have a run-in. So a lot of the volume we actually see the two new pairs interact, and the focus is away from our main couple for a bit (but not really). Rather than new side characters, Yako and Sena feel more like an extension of the main cast, an extension of their little family, and they are immediately likeable and mash well with the rest. Speaking of family, although it's been a theme before, volume 3 really makes the central theme of "found family" very explicit. And it really warms the heart.
And my favourite part, without giving too much away, Kasuga also again receives chapters with her as the protagonist, rather than having Nomoto be the narrator all the time. This is actually the only thing I really miss in the TV live action, there are only a couple of scenes in there where you can see Kasuga's train of thoughts. The manga gives you much more insight into her inner workings. I'm hoping this will change for season 2 of the show, especially knowing what's in store.
Overall, the third volume brings a lot of fresh turns but stays true to its vibe and feel at heart. And of course it doesn't forget that there's also a love story, with Nomoto & Kasuga inching ever closer to each other. But I think this volume is where the story makes a point to say, Hey, This Isn't A Romance Series - it's a series about healing from past trauma, family, and especially found family, tackling everyday misogyny and homophobia, and all that through the very mundane task of cooking. I can't wait for volume 4 to come out, and season 2 of the live action series of course!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The biggest thing I wanted to talk about was the conversation Kasuga has with her father on the phone. It's just so fucked up. We've only seen her family in flashbacks up until now, and reading the conversation between the two of them shows how far Kasuga has come in the 10 years since she's left home. Unlike Nomoto, who has a rocky relationship with her family but still keeps in contact, Kasuga has cut herself completely off since she left, and her views on family are central to her storyline. She wants to eat whatever she likes and not be shamed for it, own the things she wants, live in her own space, work a job that she choses. She wants to be herself.
Tumblr media
At the same time, Kasuga is also the most family-oriented character. She loves to take care of others, make them feel at home and feel included, and she wants others to care for her too, unconditionally. When she thinks about what she values about "family", and the things she desires, there's only one logical conclusion to come to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kasuga's ties to her family also make her the perfect person to bring in Sena to the group. Sena is the total opposite of Kasuga, yet they're able to connect because of their shared traumas connected to food and family. When Kasuga bluntly accepts Sena without a second thought, the two really start to connect and it was just so sweet. Sena's whole backstory really touched me a lot and I definitely cried xD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the main two things I really couldn't wait to talk about!!! I really love Sena a lot and I'm excited to see more of her in the next volume. It's also very funny that it takes her, what, a single evening to immediately get that Nomoto and Kasuga have mutual crushes on each other, lmao.
The other new character, Yako-san, is also really fun. She's the confident, take-no-bullshit counterpart to Nomoto, and she proudly identifies as both a lesbian and asexual. Apart from that, we haven't seen much of her and her backstory yet - I'm hoping there'll be more in the future, especially with her in parallel to the main romance (idk if she's also aromantic, but it might be hinted at already?). I can't wait to see!
Those are some assorted thoughts... I really love this series and I appreciate it for the simple yet concise storytelling, and the love Yuzaki-san puts into her characters. They feel like real people, reflecting real insecurities and problems you'd run into in real life, even when it's exaggerated in a comedic manner. Can't wait to see where it goes next!!

i bet you were insufferable as a child
and since we know this about lupin and jigen for a fact we’re actually just gonna focus on the other three for now! yippee!! the "tms forgot i exist" special lineup!
fujiko:
i know she was a weird girl. i KNOW this bitch had a gigantic bookshelf filled with all the standard cute, girly beginner chapter books, but also those big fucking scholastic book fair pretend spy kits and shit. i don’t think she was ever the “play in the dirt and come home covered in grass stains and mud” type of kid, mostly because it just felt gross to her, but i DO think she was completely unhinged in an indoors sense. the kind of child who just starts talking your ear off acting like they know everything there is to know about frogs because they read one book so OBVIOUSLY they know ALL about FROGS!!
absolutely adored those cheap horrible nail polish sets where the brush is the size of a q-tip swab. she also chewed on her nails though, so imagine the standard tiny hand with thin, watery, glittery purple polish on just the roundest, bluntest nails possible. that same hand is also thinking really hard about how to best pocket your coin purse though so like,
i think she had siblings. she was in the perfect spot where she wasn’t in the league with the older, more achieved kids, but wasn’t young enough to be babied and spoiled like the little ones. which takes quite a strange toll on you growing up. it’s why her demeanor now tends to go between taking advantage of the fact a lot of people don’t expect anything from her, to “why are you ignoring me?! what’s that about!!”
fujiko def developed her evil selfgaining tendencies before she even left the fifth grade. if you think she’s difficult to bargain with NOW, imagine what she was like in middle school when [pogs/pokemon cards/silly bandz/insert era appropriate cafeteria currency here] was big. she went through the school system curating personal black markets. it would be impressive if she wasn’t so terrifyingly cutthroat about it
in the nicest way possible, if the stars had aligned, and by some miracle all five of them were the same exact age and met in kindergarten, she… would not have been friends with any of them. well, partially. there’s a very sharp gender divide when you’re first starting school, so i think she kind of “made friends” with nice enough girls, but she absolutely thought lupin was obnoxious, she thought goemon didn’t like her because he rarely spoke to her, jigen thought it was hilarious to antagonize her, and zenigata was just kind of whatever, like he wasn’t a jerk, but he wasn’t exceedingly nice. like he gave her a colored pencil to borrow and that was the extent of that. at best, if goemon was forced to really socialize, she and goemon would get along well enough, but that’s also because she’s bossy as HELL and goemon just goes along with whatever, even now, so ESPECIALLY back when he was an impressionable child!
goemon:
god. you know the kid that sits on the edge of the playground that the teachers all go “aw, bless his heart. just a little old soul.” poor baby goemon
i don’t really think there was as much pressure on goemon to live up to his legacy the way there was for lupin. i’ve mentioned it before, but goemon’s relationship with the original goemon is very different from lup’s relationship with his grandpa, or even dad, and it’s not just because of the time gap. goemon CHOSE to emulate his nakesake’s abilities and talents, where lupin kind of had no choice. and because of this, goemon’s transition into his current lifestyle was much more gradual. i’d say he probably only started making an effort to BE “goemonlike” when he reached his mid-to-late teens. i know hes like 17 in the og manga so if any of this contradicts that Shh no it doesn’t
his quietness wasn’t entirely the result of being shy either. he just didn’t really know what to say at most points? he was (and still is) pretty blunt, and realized pretty quickly and very naturally that people outside of his immediate family didn’t know what to make of him when he answered rhetorical questions completely honestly and sincerely. so he kinda just. retreated inward a bit. he started to get a bit more talkative as he grew, but then he committed to his training and learned the importance of “meaning every word you say” so then he started getting quiet AGAIN
you would think he would be the easiest kid to look after. uh no. even in a pre-slashy slashy era he’s very naturally destructive, which is insane given how tenderly he treats certain stuff within the house. you go “ok goemon this is my dog’s favorite food bowl. it belonged to HER mom so that’s very old for dogs.” and he gives you this exceedingly serious nod and uses both hands to slowly set it down on the ground for the dog to eat out of. but then you go “goemon is that your great great great grandfather’s handmade teapot?” and he goes “is it?” and just in the process of him setting it on the counter it has shattered in two. little man is devastated but hey nobody was drinking out of that thing anyway so just krazy glue that fucker and the tears will subside
zenigata:
is there anything at all funnier than an angry 6yo. yeah. an angry 2yo. and even funnier than that, an angry infant. he didn’t even have anything to actually be pissed about, that’s just naturally how his eyebrows sit and HAVE been his entire life. i would give up my pinky just to see even a glimpse of the absolute comedy jackpot known as his baby pictures
not a revolutionary take by any means but he was definitely the “YOU CAN’T DO THAT WE’RE GONNA GET IN TROUBLE!!” kid. however he was absolutely not even REMOTELY the “didn’t we have homework?” kid because you know damn well he never remembered to do that shit. unless he knew a kid he didn’t like ALSO didn’t do the homework, then yeah, he’d absolutely go down with the ship just to get back at the little bastard.
in that same vein he would absolutely be the easiest to babysit. “but his demeanor--” shh you are thinking too far ahead. this guy has no obligations. this guy has personal beef with like two random kids in his neighborhood. he has yet to grow a taste for calling superiors idiots who don’t know what they’re talking about. so as long as you actually tell him in plain terms “please do x” or “don’t do y because z” he’ll be fine. you tell this kid to set the table and he’s tripping over his feet putting the spoons and forks in the wrong places. also you’re just having chicken nuggets so i don’t even know why he did that. he didn’t grab plates.
do not mistake the above for him being a “good” kid because this just means he was unfortunately one of those horrible kids who are very polite in front of certain people and absolute monsters in front of those he doesn’t like. does that sound contradictory to the above bullet points? that’s just how children are. he was not a bully at any point in his life but he was so extreme with his ANTI bullying shit that he ended up in the principal’s office just as much, covered in bruises and star wars bandaids. all throughout his school years. he was still doing this shit in high school he’d overhear somebody being a douchebag and just push them off the bleachers. let ‘em fall 10 feet it builds character.

Hare's isekai Quest - The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady
Tumblr media
I recently reblogged a list of female led isekai manga and decided to make a list and dive into a bunch of them and report my findings! This is the second one I've read now. I caught up to the most recently translated chapter pretty quickly!
A quick summary- Princess Anisphia awoke to the memories of her previous life in a normal world many years ago and was inspired to throw herself into researching magic and specifically magical technology that can be used by anyone whether they have innate magical ability or not. Meanwhile on the other side of the palace her brother the crown prince is currently breaking off his engagement and denouncing his former fiance, Euphyilia, for allegedly tormenting the otome heroine Lainie whom he and a circle of other handsome influential young men have fallen in love with. It's not made clear whether Euphyillia actually did anything at the moment, but the prince's public condemnation in the middle of a party is very bad news for her. Luckily for her, Anisphia crashes through a window while testing her new flying broom and sees the situation and abruptly decides to kidnap Euphyllia. She takes Euphy to the king, tattles on her brother who made this whole scene and broke off an important political engagement without his father's approval, and convinces the king and Euphy's father to let Euphy live at her villa and become her research assistant to help rehabilitate her reputation. This all happens very rapidly (like two chapters) and then the story proceeds to the part it's more interested in, Euphy opening up to her savior Anisphia and the two of them quickly falling for each other. Then Anis fights a dragon and gets cursed and it turns out Lainie's a vampire!
I got the feeling that I was missing something from this one because I'm not that familiar with the specific subgenre of isekai that is villainess isekai. I wasn't totally at sea since I am a big fan of otome games, which is where the tropes originate, but I definitely felt like there were references I wasn't getting.
I'm of the feeling that it maybe shouldn't really count as an isekai, since that element of it is so perfunctory and inessential to the story being told. The fact that the princess has memories of a previous life in a normal world is covered in a one page flashback and very rarely brought up again and doesn't seem to influence her at all except in how much she loves magic.
In my opinion there's three main pillars to the isekai genre- The first being an element of portal fantasy, being transported to a new world in some way, either physically or through reincarnation, the second is the litrpg element, game mechanics as part of the world building. The third is the element of indulgent fantasy- the main character in some way is living out a fantasy for the author/readers, whether that is being extremely powerful, or being acknowledged as unique and important, or just attracting the attention of a lot of big titty elves. Without all three of these elements, I don't think something truly qualifies as isekai.
In the case of Magirevo, the portal fantasy element is vestigial, the video game mechanics are only there if you squint (Lainie's inexplicable charm is basically the mechanic of being the main character of an otome game, and it's explained as an actual magical effect later) but the indulgent fantasy element is undeniable. You can really feel the author's fix it fic longing to rescue and rehabilitate the villainess from their favorite game. In fact there's not much else going on at first at all. The early plot feels extremely perfunctory and is rushed through as quickly as possible until the point where Anis and Euphy are finally alone together to talk about their feelings. After that there's sort of a sense of it not being sure where to go from there.
That said, it is a good time. The action is fun and fast paced, the characters are compelling, and the art has some fun stylized flourishes. I particularly like that the female characters are allowed to make intense, unattractive expressions you usually only see on male characters.
Tumblr media
The relationship between Euphy and Anis didn't do much for me, but I could see it being engaging for someone else, particularly someone with more experience in villainess manga.
That's the good and the bad, time for the ugly. It's time for... "How much did the author's fetish get in the way?" Good news this time, honestly! There's some standard cheesecake, an unnecessary undressing scene and one instance of some dubiously consensual groping. But overall, much less fan service than there could be and no niche fetishes cropping up to make things weird. That was a pleasant surprise!
Overall, I enjoyed this one. Even if the plot is a little handwaved, the execution is still compelling enough to keep me invested. I don't know if I'll try to keep up with it, but I don't regret reading it. I'll give it 6 out of 10 magic portals.

This is actually my first year being back on tumblr while I've been doing this, so!!! IT'S TIME FOR THE CHIBSAWARDS!!!! Which essentially something me and my friends do at the end of the year, compiling things we liked about media we watched/read/played in that year. Surprising nobody there's like 7 different awards that go to DetCo.
(Under the cut are the Honorable Mentions that didn't make it into this years Chibsawards)
-Boy Most Likely To Get Himself Killed If It Weren't For Plot Armor (Conan Edogawa/Shinichi Kudo)
This didn't make the cut because he's already Blorbo Of The Year for the 4th year in a row so I didn't want to put him on here twice. (Technically 4 times because he's on the cover of DetCo's manga as well as the poster for Black Iron Submarine.) This award was mainly because I watched Black Iron Submarine last week and was just, SHOCKED, at this boy's reaction to something later in the movie. He worries me.
-Game That Baby Chibs Would Have Loved (The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap)
Thanks to Nintendo's official GBA Emulator app on the Nintendo Switch, and my friend who kindly lets me be on his NSO Family Plan, I was able to play Minish Cap earlier this year! It was a delight the whole way through, and it makes me a little sad that I didn't know this game existed back when I had my GBA as a kid, because I know kid me would have loved it to bits.
-Best Comedy Manga (Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You)
You'll notice the character named Sasaki who won the "Chibsbait" award? He's one of the main characters of this manga. He's really cute I cannot resist a middle aged easy flustered salaryman.
-Best Pokemon (Appletun & Mabosstiff)
Originally this was going to just be for Mabosstiff, but I can never forget Tagi the Appletun from my SWSH playthrough.
-Most Rewatched Movie (Trigun Badlands Rumble)
I've watched this movie 3 seperate times this year, so that's why it gets this award.
-Most Atmospheric Final Boss (The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom)
OOOOOOOOO THAT FINAL BOSS WAS SO PRETTY. But putting a screenshot of it in this would spoil my friends who haven't finished TotK, and also it just wasn't cool enough of a category to make the cut.
-Most Anticipated Game (Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth)
Yes this is a TGA category. Yes it didn't win. Yes it won in my heart.
-Ugly Bastard Who's Invaded My Thoughts (Irish)
Most of my DetCo followers and mutuals should know who this is, but for those of my followers and mutuals who aren't into DetCo, he's from the 13th movie "The Raven Chaser". He's ugly he's awful, he kicked the shit out of Conan, but yknow he had a change of heart at the end and that was apparently enough to forgive everything he did in the whole past 15 minutes of the movie. I've seen this movie multiple times since 2019 when I first watched it, but I've been thinking about him the most this year I think. (Which is funny bc I haven't rewatched it at all this year. It's mainly bc he was mentioned in Movie 26 and I've seen fanart of him with Curacao and Pinga.)

Toy Capsules and Memories (Tokyo Revengers)
Tumblr media
Two fics in one day who is she? ~ *sparkles as I flip my hair* A procrastinator~
Heyo! I was hit by a sudden burst of energy and also an onslaught of nostalgia and I am here to present to you all the result of said event! Really- I just wanted to write for Lee!Chifuyu. I hope y’all like it! :D
Summary: Chifuyu and Baji hang out on a lazy afternoon.
CW: Swearing
Cloud 9 (Taglist peeps)
@duckymcdoorknob @myreygn @baby-tickles2022 @cupcake-spice13
“Dude, how many times have you read that thing? It’s falling apart.”
Chifuyu hummed from behind his manga, thumbing the bent edges of the book. It was just as Baji said- falling apart. The spine was cracked from how many times he’d stretched it open- a lightning bolt of white crackling down the center. The cover had faded in time- what was once bright colors of the protagonist were now muted and dirty with dust. A corner of the manga was warped from the time he dropped it in the puddle- too caught up in a fight to care. It was Baji who saved it from its watery grave.
It was floppy and faded and the pages were yellowing, but Chifuyu didn’t have the heart to replace it or throw it away. It was special to him.
“What? It’s my first ever owned manga! It’s like an ancient relic!” Chifuyu argued halfheartedly, flipping a page- internally cringing when the paper beneath his thumb nearly tore. Okay. Maybe it was on its last leg.
Baji huffed, flopping down unceremoniously across Chifuyu’s stomach as he tried to get a glace at the name. “NANA? Pfft- of course you’d read something so girly.”
“Says the guy who religiously rewatches Carmen.” That earned him a jab to the belly, making him squirm with a snort.
“Watch it! Don’t you dare disrespect the work of Yuto Natori.” If the threat was real, Chifuyu couldn’t tell.
“Don’t disrespect the work of Ai Yazawa then.” Chifuyu replied, smug when he heard Baji grumble against him about this and that. He sounded tired, and his hair smelled nicer than usual. “Trying a new shampoo?” He asked, running a hand over the soft black locks.
“Eh, mom’s making me use it. Said I can’t keep using bar soap.” He twitched beneath Chifuyu’s fingers, not used to the affection. In retaliation he started tracing random shapes against the fluffier parts of Chifuyu’s hoodie, realigning the fur this way and that.
“B-Bar soap?” The shorter man twitched at the tickly feeling, trying not to move. Whether it was his intention or not, Baji was tickling him. “H-How the hell, d-dude?”
“I don’t know- I just did! I didn’t stink, and it was there.” Baji shrugged, lips twitching upward as he took in how tense the other was becoming beneath him. “She found out and gave me a whole lecture on how bad it was and how I’d go bald before I turn 18. So what if I do? I’ll get a cool tattoo on my head like Draken- maybe a growling dog or something.”
“Thahat sounds stuhuhpid!” Chifuyu giggled out, shooting down a hand and trying to grab Baji’s. “Yoohohu’d look funny!”
“Funny? Aren’t you the one who put that Little Pet thing on your face when we were in middle school? The little cat tattoo?” Baji dodged his hand, moving it to the space between their bodies and continuing to lightly trace against his hoodie. “You ran up to Draken showing it off thinking you were hot shit. I’ll never forget how hard he laughed at you.”
“You hahahhad one tohoohoho!” Chifuyu giggled, opting to shove at Baji’s shoulders now since he was so adamant on tickling him. “It was lihihihittlest pehehehhet shohohohops! Yohooohu alahahhaso had a cahhahahhat!”
“Oh yeah- that’s what those were. Heh, I still have that black cat you gave me.” Baji added another hand, poking lightly into his waist and increasing the giggles. “And don’t lump me in with you stupid- I at least put mine on my arm! No one saw it!”
“Mihihihiihkey dihihiihhid- waiihihit you still hahahahve it?” Chifuyu gasped out between giggle fits, feeling his cheeks pinken. He hadn’t realized Baji was so sentimental.
“Why do you sound so surprised? What- don’t tell me you lost the one I gave you? Oh now you’re gonna get it!” Baji went from light tracing to full on tickles now; clawing lightly at his stomach and making Chifuyu squeak. “Come on, Chifuyu! You can keep a zombified manga alive but you couldn’t keep that cream cat I gave you all those years ago? Shame, shame.”
“Bahahhahahahaji, hohohohoohld ohoohohohon!” Chifuyu squirmed about, twisting this way and that beneath his friend’s relentless fingers. “Hehehhahahhar mehehehehe ohooohuht- ahh nohohoohoho doohohohohn’t! His hands shot down to Baji’s as the other started to wiggle them up beneath his hoodie. “Dohohohohon’t tiihihihickle mehhehehhe thehehehhere!”
“Oh? And why not?” Baji grinned, easily pushing past the guarding hands, drumming his fingers against the warm skin. “Does it tickle too much?”
“Ahehahahahhhahahah! Bahahhahahhahajihihiihihihihi!” Chifuyu all but cackled, arching up with his head thrown back in laughter. With no way to guard, he reached out and grabbed Baji’s wrists, more or less holding them as they drummed a random beat along his skin. “Cohoohohohme ohoohohon, thahhahat’s no faihahahhai-AH Doohohohohon’t piihihihihinch mhiihihihiihi puhuhuuhuhuuhdge!”
“Tch, Chifuyu, we’ve talked about this.” Baji shook his head in mock disappointment, continuing to pinch and press into the softer spots on Chifuyu’s belly, making him squeal and thrash. “Your squish is great! Beyond great really. It makes it that much easier for me to tickle you!” He let one hand move up to the blonde’s ribs while the other shot the hoodie up more, exposing his belly to the world. “Still, if you insist on arguing with me on it…”
“Bahhahahaji, bahahahahji wahahahit doohoohn’t you dahhHAHHAHAHHARE!” Chifuyu all but shrieked as the other blew a raspberry against his belly, his hands dribbling into his sides and adding to the tickles. Chifuyu nearly felt himself go silent with how hard he was laughing, kicking his legs helplessly as he howled in mirth. His face was on fire, and it started to hurt with how hard he was smiling. “BAHAHHAHAHAJI PLEHAHHAHAHAHASE!” He whimpered out as he felt his lungs start to collapse.
“Hehe, okay okay.” Baji sat back up with a wolfish grin, eyes dancing. He gave Chifuyu’s belly a good smack before pulling down his hoodie, cackling at the pinch he earned in retaliation. “God, you sound so funny when you laugh!”
“Shuhuhuuht up…Iihiihi’ll get you back.” Chifuyu groaned, covering his face with his arms. A risky move- given it was Baji, but he felt the other flop down beside him, stretching out his limbs like a cat.
“Sure you will, ‘Fuyu.” He grinned at him when the other lowered his arms. “You say that all the time yet you’ve never quite done so.”
“Times are changing. Watch out for me.” Chifuyu stuck out his tongue before turning to look around the room. He was sure it was there…
“What are you?” Baji began before watching Chifuyu shoot up, running to the shelf.
“Here it is!” He cried cheerfully, flopping back in the bed as he held out his cupped hands. When he pulled them back…
~~~
“Hey hey, look at this!” Chifuyu called as he and Baji walked home. They had stayed late afterschool for tutoring- Baji was getting better, even at the slow pace he was going.
“What is it?” Said man called out, coming to stand beside Chifuyu as he looked inside the toy dispenser. “Oh, one of those ball machines.”
“No no, look!” Chifuyu pointed excitedly. Within the tiny capsules were little animals. The sign on the machine said ‘Littlest Pet Shops.’ “They have cats! Apparently you get a little figure and a tattoo of the animal. That’s so cute!”
“Cute?” Baji looked closer, not really getting it. “You really do think they’re cute?”
“Erm…yeah.” Chifuyu cleared his throat, the reality of what he probably looked like right now making him twitch. “I guess they’re pretty dumb though. It’s a machine for little kids, right? We don’t need to-”
“Oi, got 100 yen?” Baji tapped the price. Chifuyu felt his heart race.
“Erm…yeah. I do.” He pulled a yen coin, startingt to offer it to Baji. The brunette had already beat him to the punch, dropping in one of his own and giving the machine a twist. Out popped a capsule. With a grin, he tossed it to Chifuyu.
“There.” He nodded. “That’s for tutoring me.”
Chifuyu looked at it, eyes wide. “Wait…for me?”
“That’s what I just said.” Baji rolled his eyes. “Well come on- open it!”
“You first.” Chifuyu walked forward and deposited his own coin. Another capsule was released. He gave it to Baji. “Now we both have one.”
Baji took it gently, laughing to himself. “Well…alright. Ready?”
They opened their capsules to find…
~~~
“Man. You really did keep it.” Baji laughed to himself, eyes soft as he looked at the cream kitten toy in Chifuyu’s hands. Even today, it looked brand new. Nothing like his manga- it looked as if Chifuyu just won it out of the machine earlier that morning.
“Of course I did! How could I ever get rid of it?” Chifuyu smiled at it fondly, nostalgia touching his cheeks and eyes. “It was the first gift you’ve ever given me.”
“It was? Shit…” Baji looked away, hiding his burning face in his hair. “I was such a sap, man.”
“You still are.” Chifuyu laughed, avoiding Baji’s retaliating jab as he returned the cat to its rightful place. “But that’s what I like about you.”
“God, now you’re being sappy! Shut up with all this mush!” Baji ran a hand through his hair to hide his smile, failing miserably. Chifuyu snorted before flopping back into the bed beside him.
“Hey, ‘Fuyu. This is wild but- when we get older. Do you want to run a pet shop together?” Baji suddenly asked, making Chifuyu turn in surprise.
“A petshop? Like- with cats and dogs and hamsters and all that?” He felt himself getting excited at the idea.
“Heh, guess I didn’t need to worry about you hesitating. Yeah- we’ll even get snakes and shit.” Baji then shuddered, growing pale. “But no spiders. I hate spiders.”
“Yeah, definitely.” Chifuyu snickered, raising a hand with wiggling fingers. “Don’t want big bad Baji to pee himself everyday at work~”
“Oh you little shit- Come here!” Tickles returned; Chifuyu cackling helplessly beneath him once more. Eventually his mom would probably come in and tell them to keep it down, but they’d worry about that later.
For now, he was just happy to have Baji by his side.
Thanks for reading!

Anime Review: Trigun Stampede
Tumblr media
Originally, when this series won the poll to see which of this season's anime I would review, I was planning to rewatch the 1998 anime in order to better discuss the differences between the two series, since I've never watched the movie or read the manga or seen any of the other adaptations that may or may not exist. I ultimately didn't because I have super important video games to play, but it's probably fine. I'm sure there are plenty of comparisons between the two just a Google search away if that's what you're interested in.
I watched several disconnected episodes of Trigun in high school and watched the whole series a few years ago, in the background while I played some video game or another. Basically, while I definitely enjoy and have fond memories of it, I've never had the deep and abiding love of the series that a lot of other millennial weebs have.
I didn't retain much about the plot or the history of the characters, but I remembered that Vash is a plant (though not the kind I originally thought of) who likes love, peace, and donuts; Meryl and Milly were trying to keeping him from causing more property damage; Wolfwood dies; and Knives is yandere. That's about it. Even so, I was put off by some of the seemingly arbitrary changes made for Stampede--mostly the decision to replace Milly with a middle aged alcoholic named after an actor and the introduction of Vash and Knives' backstory in the first episode.
I left the first episode feeling largely ambivalent toward the whole thing, and when the second episode was out I was busy watching other premiers so I didn't bother with it. Then I got caught up with the third episode and was blown the fuck away.
Knives has always ever been "Vash's yandere brother" to me. I remember little about him from the '98 series except that he exists and was the bad guy. When he was introduced in the first episode of Stampede playing piano while draped in that weird blobby shroud thing, I found it a bit silly. Like, "ooooh look at him he's so scawy lmao". Then he showed up in episode three and was fucking terrifying.
Tumblr media
The highest point of the series is the episode detailing Wolfwood's backstory, which is presented in a charming picture book style that looks very nice and contrasts nicely with the really dark shit being covered. If I wanted to, I could also write a separate essay just talking about how Knives is the best character and how he was totally right all along (some of the shit he gets up to in the last couple episodes crosses over into 'what the fuck dude' territory, but he is supposed to be the bad guy so it's fine).
The environmental messaging is a bit hamfisted, but considering the current state of the climate I think we're far past the need for subtlety--if anything, we should probably start looking into beating people 'round the head with actual hammers instead of merely metaphorical ones lest this series become based on a future true story.
Ultimately, though, Trigun Stampede is fucking phenomenal. I'm not going to say 'you owe it to yourself!!' to give it a second chance if you bounced off the first episode because the only things you owe yourself are food, water, sunshine, and love, but I doubt you'd regret giving it another go.

Why Shizuo & Vorona make all the sense in Durarara
Very long Shizuo/Vorona commentary (with spoilers from anime, manga and light novels) below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After finishing and falling in love with Durarara!! the anime, I’ve now started reading both the Manga and the light novels. And the more I read them, the more I appreciate how much the idea of Shizuo and Vorona together makes the most sense after the series finale.
But first, let’s go back to season 1 and compare the demon sword Saika's “love” for humanity and the concept of love in general in this story.
In season 1 episode 16 “Mutual Love” of the anime, (which corresponds with Durarara!! Saika Arc in the Manga/Vol 2 Chap 6 “Sword & Stress,” in the Light novels) – in order for the Saika blades to work on its victims, there had to be an element of fear.
Saika considers slashing and possessing humans as the way to propagate and to love humanity.
It is explained (much better in the LN and Manga than the anime) that the blades’ possession worked through the will of the wielder, as well as the victim, since the knives being used were not the original Saika. For the blade to possess, the victim had to feel fear after getting slashed.
So even though we watch Shizuo get slashed several times, aside from the fact that his muscles are very tightly formed (as explained by Shinra in this chapter) and he doesn’t get injured like a normal human, Saika realizes that he also had zero fear of these people. Saika’s will needed the element of fear in its victims to take possession. Since Shizuo has no fear, he cannot be possessed.
This is also used as an analogy for love in this story, especially when it comes to Shizuo.
You need to allow yourself to be vulnerable to the person giving you “love” in order to love them in return. If you don’t “fear” the pain of the blade, as Saika realizes – or in other words… if you don’t let yourself be vulnerable emotionally, you cannot truly love someone. And then that person also cannot love you.
Love needs vulnerability. If you keep your heart closed off, you cannot love.
Shizuo’s greatest fear is his own strength. He thinks of himself as a monster, undeserving of love – has thought this way since he was a kid. When he was a young adolescent – and the Manga images show a young brown-haired Shizuo, so this is prior to him meeting Tom in middle school and dyeing his hair blond – he accidentally (“not of his volition,” the Manga and LN state) got girls who liked him (who could be just friends, since he’s so young here) hurt because of his strength. These incidents made him withdraw from people.
In his heart, Shizuo has always longed for someone to love him. But because he deems himself so dangerous, now as a young adult, he doesn’t think he is allowed to be close to anyone like that.
He feels he would only hurt the person he loves because of his violent nature. So he has closed off his heart.
Enter Vorona. The girl who’s never known or understood love. All she has in the beginning is the goal to test her abilities against the strongest opponents.
And who would she come directly against? The strongest man in Ikebukuro, the peak of human strength.
And she's unlike any girl Shizuo has ever met. She's a fighter, and he's utterly impressed with her abilities.
Vorona wants to defeat him at first because that had always been her aim: to understand human strength; to be strong, and to conquer the strongest. Instead, she finds peace in his presence. Outside of battle and the various conflicts that slam into him from every side, Shizuo is surprisingly very serene. Vorona realizes he seeks peace, too. The same peace that had eluded her all her life. And she’s surprised how much she enjoys the feeling – calls it bliss even. This is the first time that she’s gotten a taste of a life free of violence.
And she’s mournful when her cover is blown because now that Shizuo knows she betrayed him, she feels she’s never gonna get this feeling back. She’s all alone.
It’s heartbreaking but also beautiful when, in the anime, every time she ponders the concept of “love,” and thinks of her loneliness, and of losing the peace she had so enjoyed, the image she sees in her mind is of Shizuo.
There is a moment in the light novels, after Izaya drops the forklift/excavator on Shizuo and Vorona, intending to kill them (or rather, to kill Vorona and to see how Shizuo would react) and Shizuo pushes the falling machinery away with just his shoulder, when Vorona realizes that Shizuo is actually superhuman. She already knew that he was the peak of human strength, but this is the moment when the realization dawns on her that he isn’t just the peak, but actually beyond it. That he’s superhuman strong, and she is awed.
She knows then that her goal to defeat him had been ridiculous.
She also realizes that he’s very conscious of his inhuman strength and that he thinks of himself as monstrous because of this. But she knows he’s not a monster. She’s shocked how reasonable and forgiving he is, how willing to give her a second chance; he offers her his ear, is protective of her even when she’s playing on the wrong side. Deep inside her heart, Vorona has always known he was utterly human, and now she doesn’t want to hurt him or see him get hurt.
That’s why she is so compelled to save him from becoming a murderer, when she stops him from killing Izaya in the end and is ready to kill him for Shizuo. She already is a murderer, a beast as she calls herself, and she doesn’t want Shizuo to become one and be condemned too.
This is what Shizuo knows and feels in his heart when, at the end of the LN, he says that he’s able to act and be like a person (a human, that is) because of her. That she’s the reason why he didn’t turn into a true monster. This is why he’s so grateful to her.
She tells him when she leaves for Russia that her desire is to come back and “speak to him in direct terms (since he offered to listen more than once) … to experience the joy of existing in this world.” With him, she means.
Denis tells him she will likely come back. Simon tells him he already is human. All he needs to do is open his heart to the possibility.
This is where the anime left them. This is why I feel so happy in my heart when I imagine scenarios where Vorona does come back and Shizuo and her do get together. 🤗
