Hello!

I'm writing this post the night before my surgery and it'll post the same time as my surgery begins. (1:40pm EST Feb 2nd) I wanted to first thank everyone again for helping me get this far! If it wasn't for all the support through commissions, I most likely would have to put this surgery on hold. Or possibly not get it at all. Living in the USA and having health issues is just all around a bad time.

I've had a couple of people ask me (privately) what kind of surgery I'm getting. For a while I didn't want to saying anything as I was worried what others might think... but then I realized, I don't really give a shit. Plus, the whole thing is happening anyways so whatever.

My surgery today is for a hysterectomy! I'm SUPER stoked about getting this, as I've had chronic pain for years revolved around that garbage. I have endometriosis and cystic fibrosis. That shit sucks, I've had multiple cysts rupture inside me before (VERY NOT FUN) and I deal with the pain flare ups that my endometriosis has been giving me for years. I often have to call out of work or cancel plans when I have my cycle. It's by no means a threat to my life itself, but it has damaged my quality of life over the years. Having this procedure isn't a cure all, I might still have some pain after this surgery. But it'll reduce the pain that I do get for sure!

So thank you all. Really. If it wasn't for the support and love I got from others this would be a lot harder. This past month has been crazy busy for me, appointments and phone call non stop. But knowing that I paid what I needed upfront and that it was through my art is a feat I didn't think I could achieve! I'm so thankful for all the support and I can't wait to recover and get part of my life back! Thank you all, lots of love. - BB

For The People Who Are Still Alive...

Hey Portal Friends and Followers,

I hope you're all doing well! Lately, I've had something on my mind that I think it's time to share with you all. Over the past year or so, my life has taken some significant turns! Major events have included graduating from college, starting my career in Design Engineering, and getting married! Life has been an exciting roller coaster, and I'm enjoying all the fun new things.

However, among all the changes, I've also been contemplating my relationship with the Portal games and the Portal Fandom. Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been active on this blog for quite a while. The Testing Queue still goes out daily but, beyond that, I haven't been sharing new artwork or engaging as much. My YouTube channel, where I used to make Portal videos and build robots and props, has been on a long hiatus too. Everything Portal-related in my life just doesn’t seem as captivating as it used to be.

These days, when I think about Portal and all the things I used to do in the fandom, it conjures a strange feeling in me. On one hand, I still hold the story and characters dear, and I fondly remember all the fantastic fanart, interactions, and stories that I’ve seen as part of the fandom. But on the other hand, the fervor and eagerness I once had seem to have softened. It's like my passion has transformed from being a passionate superfan to a calmer and more passive enthusiast.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of transition in their fandom journey? If so, I'd love to hear how you dealt with it and any insights or suggestions you might have for me. Feel free to reply or DM.

These feelings have left me with a dilemma: what to do with my blog. I don't want to abandon it or delete it, but even refilling my queue is starting to feel tiresome. Plus, without active effort I'll eventually run out of posts to queue from my archive, so maintaining the queue alone is only a temporary solution. I've been toying with the idea of inviting someone who’s more active in the fandom to become a Moderator for the blog and keep it alive with fresh content, but I'm still uncertain about this option. If you have any feedback on that idea, please reply or DM.

So that's where I stand now. My life has taken me in a new direction and, while I still love Portal, I don't have the same time and energy to invest in the fandom as before. I'm eager to find a way to keep this blog alive in a way that feels authentic and will keep the content you all followed for going for the foreseeable future.

We have a new member of the household. Our oldest has their friend living with us and the friend brought a number of tank-based creatures. (Geckos, snakes, tarantula, and some others.)

We’ll be helping them and our oldest get jobs, since both are graduated adults now. But the friend is going to be a permanent fixture for a few years.

That said, things might be tight in my household and I’m considering getting another job. Which means less time to create. 😔

If we run into financial issues, I’ll post something for assistance. Right now we are tentatively planning for a garage sale.

It’d mean a lot if y’all could get my books spread out there. Review on Goodreads, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble. Suggest them in threads or groups. The All Hearts festival will be available in print soonish too!

This week's ketamine treatment went ok.

I would've wrote about it on Monday but I wasn't feeling well. I had gotten sufficiently high from the treatment this time. Still a tad mild compared to Spravato but in a good way.

I then went to whole foods and got some cookies since I wanted cookies. Came home, ate lunch, made tea, watched a netflix comedy special, ate my cookies and then laughed so hard I puked everything up. Like it physically hurt. I did a reenactment of The Exorcist but like more. My throat a whole day later still is a bit off. I was physically drained. I did finish the comedy show though.

We took a night drive and popped over to Walmart to get a few things and just that exhausted me so much. My whole chest hurt and my throat was raw feeling. Like you don't understand..I had to keep blowing my nose because some had gotten up in my sinus cavities..and some is an understatement. It was bad.

Then hubbs decided to make a joke about how I got to enjoy the cookies guilt free. I hate puking. It's triggering and makes me feel awful. I don't think he knows that. How triggering it is for me. Like who enjoys puking, no one.

I just want to curl up and cry. I wanted to do that Monday night but was scared I'd make myself puke again.

Then Tuesday I did the grocery shopping. Bought a huge powerade zero because I was still not feeling 100.

I've been having a rollercoaster of a time lately.

Life Update!

I had my surgery yesterday and it went super well! I had an amazing teams taking care of me through the whole process. My surgeon has lots of experience (40 years) doing this and was very nice. Everyone made sure to let me know I was taken good care of. While I did have everything that I wanted removed, he also had to take out my left ovary too. I lost my right ovary back in 2020 for similar reasons I got this surgery. I was told by the time I was waking up that he knew that if he didn’t take it out now, then he definitely would in a year or two. I haven’t seen pictures yet (I hope to in my follow up) but I was told I had a cyst around my ovary the size of a gold ball. So yeah, glad that’s out.

This now leaves me with having to take hormones for probably the next 20+ years or so. I won’t lie, I’m a little scarred. Simply because my health insurance can change and might make it harder to get whatever drugs I need in the future. Also a tad worried how I’ll react with these hormones, though I know it won’t be as same as taking hormones for things like birth control.

Still regardless of all of that, I would absolutely do it all over again! Having all that pain and agony, knowing I won’t have it anymore, yeah for sure worth it! I’m at home and have been resting a lot, taking it easy. Thankfully this time around I already feel a lot better than when I had my previous surgery in 2020. I hope that after a few days I can start to doing I want to again; like drawings or making my little craft things.

That’s all for now! Just wanted to write about what’s happened so far and thought I would share. Thanks for everyone who’s commented on my previous post, it was nice to see such kind comments. I’ll be back in a few days with another update. :)

FYI: An unexpected death stunned my family yesterday. If you've been following me for longer, you know I'll always take time off after mid-Dec to early Jan to enjoy family, friends, food, hobby stuff and my little corner of the world. This year, it'll unfortunately be a longer break. I will be back some time in 2024, hopefully in the spring at latest.

I'm grateful how many of you have chosen to follow me here. (It's astounding, really, how the numbers have grown when I wasn't looking.)

In the meanwhile, I hope you and yours have a restful end of 2023. Stay safe. <3
