A "Right to Buy Scheme" question from House of Lords
The member of the House of Lords who asked this question was the Bishop of Derby the Rt Revd Libby Lane and the response came from Baroness Joanna Penn, a Government Minister. The two comments which have been received so far suggest the response from Rachel Penn are inadequate that can be seen here and here is the text. Bishop of Derby: To ask His Majesty’s Government what assessment they have…

"the first woman to be appointed as a bishop by the Church of England, after its general synod voted in July 2014 to allow women to become bishops. Her consecration took place on 26 January 2015 at York Minster.
When the archbishop asked the congregation if Lane should be consecrated as a bishop the service was briefly interrupted by a vexatious litigant and Anglo-Catholic priest, Paul Williamson, who exclaimed "It's not in the Bible" and called Lane's being a woman an "absolute impediment". There was no opposition when Sentamu, having carefully explained the legality of the act, asked a second time.
One of the first duties that Lane undertook as a bishop was her involvement in the consecration service for Philip North as the Bishop of Burnley on 2 February 2015. North is a traditionalist Anglo-Catholic who does not accept the ordination of women. Therefore, Lane and all but three other bishops did not take part in the laying on of hands. (This situation was widely commented upon as exemplifying a "theology of taint".) Instead, they gathered in prayer around North with only the three bishops "who share his theological conviction regarding the ordination of women" laying their hands on him."

I love libby so much man I just finished a book and moved directly to another one, I haven’t read this much in years. It’s such a good system for the ADHD bc I don’t have to say “what do I want to read next” it’s just “here’s the next book available!”
And there’s a time limit til the book is due which encourages me not to put it aside and forget about it, but the only consequence for not finishing in time is “I’ll have to put in a new hold and wait my turn to borrow it again, which also boosts the library’s numbers.” No guilt no shame just good things. AND I have a list of books to read that have no wait times for when none of my holds will come in for a while.
And they’re free!
As many books as I want forever, and if I don’t have time at the moment I can just ask them to be delivered later so I can stay at the beginning of the line and other folks can get them in the meantime. Peace and love on planet earth

I found you a couple things that are just simple, because I feel like that is your vibe. This wallet is just something that will make it easy to keep all your essentials together. And the pen is one of those fancy office pens I felt fitting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raf
To the fancy one. First of all, thank you for making me laugh and always sharing dessert with me. A notebook that connects to the internet to keep all your notes in one place. It's really convenient and actually easy to use. And a nice glass, for the relaxing nights.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Libby
I found these cute earrings, and immediately thought of you for how simple and lovely they are! And a spoon rest in the shape of Georgia, because we've talked about our home states a lot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elise
I know you're a cat mom, so I picked up these tote bags, and got you three because I found them all to be adorable and hilarious and couldn't pick just one! And a necklace that is from a Napa Valley wine barrel. A little bit of fun and elegance, if you will.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zoey
To a sister I never knew I needed, I am so glad we've gotten to know each other more! First, I have these gold lace earrings that are just lovely and look like they match your style. Next is a scarf with cranes on it, meant to bring good fortune.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fallon
My lovely, dear friend who is a tech whiz! I found this kit where you can make your own radio. I immediately thought of you with that one and thought that you might enjoy it. And these earrings I thought were just adorable!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Darrius
A history buff--with history-themed gifts. First a game you can play with your class, or with friends, or even on your own! It looks very cool and mysterious. Next a compendium, something you can place on your desk or even use when out and about? It's a sundial and compass
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amina
For a friend who I know loves stones, I decided to find a couple of jade items, for good luck and good fortune, as well as healing. First, a bracelet that I personally love and wear all the time. Next is a jade bonsai tree that is just so simple and elegant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Espie
I found this sea glass necklace that is pretty unique. The color and simplicity of it felt fitting. And next, something for the kids to enjoy. I've always enjoyed puzzle books at their age, so it's a fun adventure everyone can do together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nari
My lovely, plant loving friend! I couldn't resist these flower earrings, and the color is just so unique, I also got a pair for myself. Next, are these cute little duck garden decorations. I had to laugh a little at the boots they are wearing--adorable!

Anticipated New Releases of 2024
**As anticipated by Me. Mostly SFF. Links are to goodreads because that's what I use, sorry. Anything marked "new to me" I haven't read anything by that author before and therefore can't vouch for the quality. I just think the premise is neat.**
Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands, Heather Fawcett (16 January)
Sequel to the charming novel about the fairy anthropologist.
Exordia, Seth Dickinson (23 January)
Well, it isn't a new Baru Cormorant, but this modern SF about first contact may be the next best thing.
City of Stardust, Georgia Summers (30 January)
New to me. A young woman descends into the underworld in order to break her family's fatal curse.
The Tainted Cup, Robert Jackson Bennett (6 February)
New to me. A sherlock holmes flavored duo solves the mystery of the murder of an imperial official in a labyrinthine fantasy realm.
What Feasts at Night, T Kingfisher (13 February)
The sequel to the mushroom horror book What Moves the Dead.
The Warm Hands of Ghosts, Katherine Arden (13 February)
A ghost story set in WW1 about a woman searching for her missing brother.
The Fox Wife, Yangsze Choo (13 February)
New to me. A detective in 1908 Manchuria investigates a young woman's death in an area full of mythical foxes.
Redsight, Meredith Mooring (27 February)
New to me. Unpowered priestess and Imperial pawn is set on a collision path with a pirate with a grudge for the Imperium (Gay romance).
Sunbringer, Hannah Kaner (12 March)
Sequel about the professional godkiller Kissen.
Jumpnauts, Hao Jingfang (12 March)
New to me. A SF novel in translation from Chinese, with three scientists joining forces to deal peacefully with a first contact situation.
The Woods All Black, Lee Mandelo (19 March)
I liked Mandelo's debut novel very much so I'm excited to read this queer horror novella set in 1920s Appalachia.
Floating Hotel, Grace Curtis (19 March)
New to me. A series of cozy character vignettes on a space cruise ship after a murder has occurred. One of the four (!) space hotel murder crimes books coming out this year.
The Emperor and the Endless Palace, Justinian Huang (26 March)
New to me. Reincarnation gay romance set in 4 BCE China, the 1740s, and modern-day LA.
Alien Clay, Adrian Tchaikovsky (28 March)
Far future space xenoarchaeology by a man trapped on a prison planet.
Someone You Can Build a Nest In, John Wiswell (2 April)
New to me. Bizarre lesbian cannibalism monster romance from the point of view of the monster.
The Familiar, Leigh Bardugo (9 April)
Glad to see Bardugo writing more adult fantasy, and this one is especially exciting because it's a fantasy set in early modern Spain with a Jewish main character. Fun to see a more original historical period.
A Sweet Sting of Salt, Rose Sutherland (9 April)
New to me. Lesbian selkie romance.
Death in the Spires, KJ Charles (11 April)
Charles branching out from romance into historical Oxford murder mystery about a group of friends with dark secrets.
Audrey Lane Stirs The Pot, Alexis Hall (22 April)
The new Hall thinly veiled british baking show romcom. Libby says it's releasing in April but I've heard nothing from the author so I think it may be Alecto'd (shifted to next year)
Necrobane, Daniel M Ford (23 April)
Sequel to the dungeons and dragons-esque low fantasy lesbian necromancy book.
A Letter to the Luminous Deep, Sylvie Cathrall (25 April)
New to me. Sweet underwater epistolary academic romance.
How To Become the Dark Lord and Die Trying, Django Wexler (21 May)
New to me. A young hero caught in a fantasy time loop gives up and tries being the villain in an attempt to escape.
Goddess of the River, Vaishnavi Patel (21 May)
Another woman-centered retelling of Hindu mythology, this time based on the river goddess Ganga.
Escape Velocity, Victor Manibo (21 May)
New to me. Evil and toxic private school alumni jockey for position in a space hotel event in an attempt to escape a dying Earth.
The Fireborne Blade, Charlotte Bond (28 May)
New to me. Gay dragon slaying knight novella.
Evocation, ST Gibson (28 May)
New to me but looks very cool. Attorney and medium David attempts to escape his deal with the devil with the help of his ex boyfriend and his ex boyfriend's wife (Poly romance).
Service Model, Adrian Tchaikovsky (4 June)
In an SF future, a robot kills its human owners and ventures out into a world where human supremacy is beginning to crumble.
Lady Eve's Last Con, Rebecca Fraimow (4 June)
New to me. A con artist seeks revenge on the man who hurt her sister, who's coincidentally also on a space cruise ship (Sapphic romance subplot).
Triple Sec, TJ Alexander (4 June)
An actual mainstream published poly romance (!!) by trans author Alexander.
Running Close to the Wind, Alexandra Rowland (11 June)
Gay! Pirates! Scheming! Alt fantasy world! Monks! I liked Taste of Gold and Iron a lot and I'm very excited for this one.
The Knife and the Serpent, Tim Pratt (11 June)
New to me. Space opera about an interdimensional organization. Also, there's a sentient starship.
The Witchstone, Henry Neff (18 June)
A childhood favorite of mine's adult debut, featuring a demon who suddenly has to shape up at his curse keeper job after eight hundred years of slacking.
Rakesfall, Vajra Chandrasekera (18 June)
VERY excited to read more weird queer sff from this author after a fantastic debut. Looks weird. I'm in.
Foul Days, Genoveva Dimova (25 June)
New to me. A witch in a Slavic fantasy inspired world flees her evil ex, the Tsar of Monsters. There's also a plague and a detective.
Saints of Storm and Sorrow, Gabriella Buba (25 June)
New to me. Filipino inspired anticolonialist fantasy novel about a nun who is secretly practicing the religion of her goddess.
The Duke at Hazard, KJ Charles (18 July)
A queer regency with an incognito duke by one of my particular favorite romance authors.
Long Live Evil, Sarah Rees Brennan (30 July)
!!! Very excited to see a new adult fantasy by Brennan. A reader is dragged into a fictional world and finds herself the villain.
A Sorceress Comes to Call, T Kingfisher (20 August)
A retelling of The Goose Girl from reliably good fairy tale stalwart Kingfisher.
Buried Deep and Other Stories, Naomi Novik (17 September)
Collection of Novik's short stories.

Feast While You Can, Mikaella Clements and Onjuli Datta (29 October)
New to me. Small town queer cave horror.
The Last Hour Between Worlds, Melissa Caruso (19 November)
Multiple reality murder mystery spy vs spy type antics, with lesbians.

Strip Bowling - Nash Hawthorne
I finally caved and decided to write something for Nash. The fics of him out there are good, but limited so it’s time for another. This is not proof read so there will probably be mistakes.
Tumblr media
“C’mon, it’ll be fun,” Jameson chided. You were currently sitting on Avery’s enormous bed, the sheer size of just the room amazing you. Although you were long distance friends before the entire inheritance situation, you had stayed at her and Libby’s apartment over the years. You knew everything must still be a lot to take in for her as it was for you. Avery slightly rolled her eyes, “Jameson, y/n just arrived a few days ago. You don’t need to rope her into any of your games”
It had been only a few months of Avery living here in Texas, but she already explained about the late Hawthorne grandfather and the games they used to play. She specifically told you about how much Jameson in particular had a knack for it all. She had given quick summaries of the other brothers over the phone the day before you arrived. “Grayson’s the blonde, 2nd oldest and moody-” You cut her off, “So he’s basically a rip off Aaron Warner?” She laughed at your interjection and you giggled, “Essentially.” She then continued, “Xander is the youngest and sweetest, really tall and super smart, loves scones. Max would probably like him.” You hummed in agreement. “Nash is the oldest, he doesn’t really get along with his family. He rides horses, and does cowboy stuff like you I guess.” That caught your interest.
“Please heiress, I’m sure she’d love to play.” The sound of Jameson’s voice brought you back to the present. He had knocked on Avery’s door a moment ago, which was probably a first, and asked if you both wanted to play strip bowling. Although you weren’t against the idea, it had been awhile since you bowled and if there was something you hadn’t already learned in your time at the Hawthorne Mansion, it was that they played to win. Every single one of the brothers. Not only would you most likely embarrass yourself by your rusty skill, you would almost certainly be naked very quickly into the game. You figured Jameson wouldn’t let it go that far though, you hoped at least. He was the one orchestrating this however so it was all up to chance.
You placed your hand on Avery’s arm, drawing her attention. “It’s fine Avery, I’ll play. Sounds fun.” You looked at Jameson. “I do however want to change, I’m terrible at bowling and barely wearing anything as it is.” Jameson just smirked at your reply, “Don’t worry, it’s better if you keep what you have on, it’ll be easier to come off.” You immediately flushed at his words, “Still, I wouldn’t let you change anyways. Takes away the fun.” You were surely crimson colored.
Jameson was attractive but you weren’t exactly interested in him, and it’s not like you thought he had interest in you. Avery warned he could be a flirt so you didn’t take any of his words to heart. You did however get flustered very easily which was evident.
You and Avery followed Jameson to the bowling room lightly chatting. When you arrived you saw the other Hawthorne brothers waiting. Your eyes landed on Nash, to which he smirked up at you. You playfully rolled your eyes, fighting back a smile and blush.
You and Avery sat down next to each other, Jameson choosing to go first.
~
Surprisingly, 30 minutes later you only had two socks removed. Your sweatpants and crop are still on. Avery was missing one shoe, Jameson a shirt and the others nothing so far.
As Nash walked up to the lane and sent his bowling ball down, he missed. “Well then,” He drawled, turning back to everyone and reaching to pull his shirt over his head. While his eyes were covered by his shirt, your attention was suddenly all on him, or more so his abs. You let your gaze linger for a bit longer than you should’ve on his defined torso, and turned to Avery as Nash sat down again. You lightly smirked at her, to which she rolled her eyes at you.
You went next and big surprise, missed. You internally smacked yourself and heard Jameson chuckle. You were debating whether to be bold and remove your pants over your shirt, but of course you just decided with your shirt. You pulled it off as your face turned the color of a tomato, and your bra was there for everyone to see.
It was black and slightly lacey, but nothing too suggestive. As you made your way to Avery you made eye contact with a shirtless Nash, going even redder. He just did his trademark smirk, which was oh so going to be the death of you.
Later into the game Nash once again missed. You were not so subtly staring at him as he took off his belt buckle and next unbuckled his jeans. Your eyes followed his hands but at the moment, a disruption of course happened. As everyone started to put clothes back on and leave the room, Jameson shouted before running out, “Nash and y/n you’re on cleaning up!” You groaned and rolled your eyes. Once you met Nash’s however you replaced your annoyance with a light smile.
“Well this will be fun,” You chuckled, bending down to grab items from the floor left behind.
Since you had arrived you and Nash both got along great. You shared a love for horses and cattle, which made it easy to talk to him. He was also very, very attractive. Although you were both flirty with each other, nothing came of it. Hence why his next response left you speechless.
“We sure could make it fun,” His Texan account thick and suggestive as he glanced at you. “W-what?” Was all you muttered out, redder than you had ever been. Any previous boldness from the past couple days was gone.
He just gave you his trademark smirk as he stepped closer, you lips barely inches from his. You looked up at him through your lashes and your boldness suddenly resurfaced. You pulled him in and your lips met. At first he kissed you slowly and lovingly, but you wanted more. You broke apart for a second of air, before pulling him in again hungrily as your hand slid under his shirt, tracing the line of his abs. You pulled on the bottom of his shirt and muttered out of breath, “Off, now.”
You could feel his smirk against your lips as he drawled his response, “Anything for you love”
