Como alguém que nunca teve uma vida fácil, órfão desde que se entende por gente, o jovem era conhecido como Hess antes de entrar para o circo. Pouco antes de sair do orfanato, Hess foi uma criança mais retraída e que pouco saía do Castigo, tampouco da instituição que vivia. Tinha muito receio de fazer o que fosse, mas, agora percebia que a vida era muito mais do que as ruas sujas em que vivia. Depois de sonhar muito com a mudança de vida, acabou por conseguir um lugar no Circo de Gepetto e da Fada Madrinha. Muito se diz de sua personalidade quando se pensa no amor que recebe do homem e na passivo-agressividade com que lida com seu medo pela mulher. Sempre desconfiado de tudo e todos, Hess após entrar para a academia mudou seu nome para Ikaris devido a habilidade que havia lhe sido garantida. Com isso, seu número no circo mudou, assim como suas intenções. Desde que tudo teve um rumo diferente, Ikaris esqueceu do medo e das consternações de antigamente para focar de modo singular no que desejava para o agora.

Sua performance no circo é a de levitação. Ele é o único que pode voar e fazer os outros voarem também. Todos dentro do circo sabem quando é hora do número de Ikaris, pois os assentos tornam-se invisíveis uma vez que a clientela dentro da barraca flutua. É uma performance conjunta, mas que dura poucos minutos já que o próprio usuário não consegue suportar mais que isso para continuar o show. Em seguida, todos voltam ao normal e ele apresenta espetáculos que variam de patinação no ar até balé, mas a verdade por trás desse número é que se utiliza da falta de atenção das pessoas no primeiro momento da performance para atrair itens de valor de seus bolsos, e é por isso que todo número começa assim. É uma das performances mais bonitas e bem estruturadas, até por ser bem simplista, mas a razão por detrás desse ato é nada além do roubo que ele faz secretamente, e que já fora alertado que não poderia continuar. Contudo, fica impossível quando uma parte de si tem essa ligadura com o desconhecido, algo que nunca teve contato até então.

Tem uma personalidade maleável, que geralmente se dá de acordo com quem está interagindo. Ele confia nas pessoas mais do que deveria, mas também inconscientemente tem o pé atrás. De toda forma, é facilmente influenciável e isso é perigoso tendo em vista que não teve muito contato com o mundo afora para saber realmente dos perigos que corre. Hess/Ikaris jamais saiu de sua bolha, somente à partir dos 18 anos, então está sendo uma experiência que ainda gera certos atritos mentais consigo mesmo por não ter aprendido até hoje.
