When The Kids Are Away…
John Shelby x Reader
Warnings: mentions of drinking, language
Word Count: 1038
Summary: John and (Y/N) Shelby very rarely get a night off, so they were going to make the most of it tonight.
Tumblr media
The couple’s giggles could be heard all throughout the empty first floor of their home. It was rare that this Shelby family household was so quiet. John and (Y/N) very rarely got a night off, so they were going to make the most of it.
They were in the living room, sitting on the couch in front of the fireplace. Two glasses of wine sat on the coffee table, and a bowl of grapes rested in (Y/N)’s lap.
“Ok, ready? Your turn!” (Y/N) exclaimed as she plucked one of the grapes from its vine. John relaxed back against the arm of the couch and got himself ready for his wife to throw the grape his way. “You better catch it!” she said to him, a wide grin gracing her face as she held it up; ready to throw.
“Just throw it!” John egged her on in a lighthearted manner, his eyes wide and mouth open as he prepared to catch the piece of fruit. He didn’t want to wait any longer.
“Ready? Three, two…”
“Throw it!” John cut her off. His impatience back-fired on him greatly when (Y/N) threw the grape his way the second he interjected into her countdown. It missed its mark and hit him square in the eye. “What the fuck, (Y/N)…I wasn’t ready!” he exclaimed, holding his palm to the eye that had just been struck by the fruit.
“You said throw it, so I threw it,” she responded, trying so hard, and failing, to contain her giggles.
“And you missed my mouth by a longshot,” he pointed out, removing his hand and blinking a few times before opening his eye wide to make sure that he was able to see. (Y/N) rolled her eyes at his dramatic actions.
“Here, let me try again,” she said before grabbing another grape and holding it up in her ready position. John only nodded before he also got ready, opening his mouth and focusing on the piece of fruit. “This time don’t try and rush me,” she warned him, waiting a moment before she bit on her bottom lip and focused on the task at hand.
The exchange was quiet this time, but (Y/N) still missed, even with John nearly falling off of the couch to try and catch the grape. He gave her a wide-eyed look and she merely shrugged her shoulders before bending her elbows and raising her palms to the roof in an ‘I don’t know’ gesture.
“Lemme show you how it’s done, darling,” John told her, a confident grin on his face as he swiped the bowl from her lap. (Y/N) let him take it, shaking her head at his confidence.
“Just don’t hit me in the eye, ok?” she told him, her eyebrows raised for added effect.
“Do I ever miss?” he asked, cocking an eyebrow.
“Considering we have five kids, I’d say no,” she quipped with a grin, her suggestive statement making him laugh.
“Let’s get serious,” John then insisted, even though he was the one who was laughing. (Y/N) only nodded, watching as he plucked a grape from the vine and held it up. “Ready?” he questioned, watching as she nodded once again. After steadying his aim, John threw the grape and (Y/N) successfully caught it in her mouth.
“Yes!” she exclaimed after she chewed the piece of fruit.
“See? That’s how you do it!” John matched her excitement as he lowered his arms; finished with his celebration. “Told you I don’t miss,” he then added with a smug grin, one that (Y/N) rolled her eyes at.
“Let me try again,” she said then, grabbing the bowl back from her husband, “I promise I won’t miss this time.”
“Alright…let’s see what you’ve got,” John grinned, getting ready to catch the grape.
(Y/N) held it steady in between her fingers, her tounge sticking out slightly as she concentrated on her target. After a few intense moments, she threw it…and it successfully hit John’s right cheek. The couple stared at each other afterwards, neither of the two saying anything until they both cracked up in laughter.
“You missed again, love,” John stated the obvious after he got ahold of his laughter.
“Well I promise I won’t miss with this,” she responded, quickly moving the bowl to sit beside the wine glasses before she leaned forward. She then placed both of her hands on John’s thighs to steady herself before her lips found his.
She only intended to give him a quick kiss, but she should have known that quick kisses were never enough for John Shelby. He grabbed hold of her cheeks with both hands, holding her lips against his to prolong the kiss. Their lips stayed connected until he pulled away and began peppering her lips and the surrounding skin with kisses. She let him do this until she was giggling so much that she needed to pull back and catch her breath.
“See?” she said once her eyes had found his again, “I never miss with those.”
John couldn’t help but chuckle at her statement, taking a moment to bask in her beauty as a sweet smile graced her lips. “You don’t…and I’m damn glad of it,” he grinned before he grabbed hold of her waist and pulled her body into his, making her shriek at the sudden movment.
It didn’t take long for (Y/N) to settle. She happily curled up in his arms as they laid on the couch.
“We should let the kids go to their aunt Ada’s more often,” he suggested as he rested his chin on the top of her head. (Y/N) was only able to hum as she closed her eyes and rested her head back against his chest.
“All this quiet is nice, isn’t it?” although she asked a question, the matter really wasn’t up for debate.
“It is,” John was agreeing with her in seconds.
The two sat like that on the couch until they couldn’t go a few minutes without a yawn. They then moved their cuddle fest into the bedroom, where sleep came over the both of them very quickly.

Don't you just hate it when one of the biggest grifters online decides to like a piece of media you like?
Gatekeeping is wrong. Forcing someone to like something in the specific way I interact and consume a piece of media is wrong. Art is meant to be viewed through a multitude of lenses, and each individual will have their own way of interpreting that creation. And that's good. That's fine. That's human.
But when an Anti-Woke Grifter who thinks alcoholism is a really cool personality trait and decides to brand everything about themselves as that; who has historically engaged and criticized films and shows and games and books in bad faith; who has put down women and POC's and Queer representation in media; who is one of the biggest dicks in the online space decides to actually pay attention to an art that is pretty much dipped, coated, laminated, and injected with fucking GAY, ANTI-PATRIARCHAL ENERGY—that's when I get mad.
For those not in the know, Critical Drinker has posted a review for Blue Eye Samurai, saying he likes it.
You know... Blue Eye Samurai?
The show that oozes Queer Wrath? Feminine Rage? Curb-Stomping Toxic Masculinity and the Patriarchy whenever and wherever it can? That Blue Eye Samurai?
See, he's done this before with Arcane.
He says he likes it. Him and his ilk say that, "Finally, the wokies have done something actually good!" and point to Vi and Jinx as strong female characters written well!
But they also say, dang, feels like all the men in that show are idiots and that they had to be dumbed down to make room for the rainbow-haired girlies brigade. Who have all remarked that Vi and Caitlyn's relationship is forced and being shoved down our throats because god forbid women like women!
I got sick of watching his Arcane review halfway, and this was before I knew what a douche Critical Sucker was.
So I ain't watching his Blue Eye Samurai review. Why?
His Glass Onion review was done in bad faith.
I didn't like She-Hulk, but that's because that show was a byproduct of abused VFX animators, creatively bankrupt executives, and writers desperately trying to manage a convoluted shared universe that continues to buckle under its own weight. Political Stinker over here thinks that it's pandering, stupid, feminist garbage. He is one of the biggest Anti-Feminist voices in Youtube.
Him and his incel brigade have an obsession over hating Captain Marvel and Brie Larson. These basement dwelling cucks rant and rave over a mediocre duology and an actress that just lives in their tiny heads rent-free.
He says that they are removing men from leading roles and roles of great importance!
So why would I want to listen to an inebriated libertarian's opinions on a show that has become the show for lesbians, trans mascs, and other lovely brands of gay and feminism that he oh so despises? He'll most likely praise the action and violence and shit like that, then probably say that Mizu and Taigen's homoerotic rivalry isn't gay actually. Or that Mizu and Akemi's narrative foils don't scream enemies-to-sapphics. Or that Mizu, WHO'S NAME MEANS WATER AND HER ENTIRE CHARACTER REVOLVES AROUND FLUIDITY ISN'T IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM FLUID IN HER GENDER AND SEXUALITY.
Fuck. I'm sorry. I don't even care if he doesn't say that. He's made so many disgusting, disparaging remarks about any piece of media that shows an inkling of progressive themes that what else am I supposed to expect?
If anyone watches it and sees this, lemme know. Watching an Anti-Woke bullshit video with just myself is just straight up wading through the desert without proper protection. No thanks.
Anyway watch Blue Eye Samurai again. Because I know you watched it. Watch it again. And again. And when you're done, watch Arcane. Watch She-Ra. Watch Dragon Prince. Castlevania. Watch anything "woke". Consume trans-positive shows. Make all the haters and even the ones who like it but have no ounce of media literacy irrelevant. Let them dry out and die, please.

Okay so I have an idea for a Mishanks x Reader (poly) - reader washes up on Kuraigana Island after being thrown off her ship ... for reasons... and somehow makes it to Mihawk's castle and collapses at the door
In this particular scenario I imagine Mishanks live there together so I'm not sure if this would be an AU or not yet but whatever
Anyways reader is taken by a fever and the two nurse reader together, and it's all soft and gentle... and then they have to confront reader about why they turned up in the first place
I literally haven't written any fics in years and I have so many assignments due but oh well
Plus I'm super new to One Piece and very nervous (I'm only at Sky Island and watched the Live Action) so not sure if I could do this justice
But yeah lemme know what you guys think from my super undetailed plans haha

Have you heard the song 20Cm by TXT? It's a k-pop song but it's very sweet, it's about a cute height difference relationship, the lyrics are cute... I was wondering if you can do a fic similar to the situation in that song with Senku (If you haven't noticed I love Senku the most lol)
I am scared to watch the one piece live action (I hated the death note live action in Netflix tbh) and I got swamped with work, lemme watch it and I'll let you know!!
-🤡anon
Senku’s a good favorite😭😭
Sure! I have now hehe, let’s try…
-Senku x reader: Childhood friends to lovers(kinda) feat.height difference-
Senku hadn’t always been taller than you. At one point you were the same height, when you were just kids.
Before all of THIS happened. And before you realized you were in love with your childhood best friend.
Senku is working in his lab when you join him. He’s taller than you now…a decent amount taller, not that you minded, but it felt weird to think he was so much taller than you now, that you weren’t kids anymore…
He looks up at you and smirks that charming smirk and it makes your heart flutter.
“Hey, y/n, came to help me?”
“Sure…” you say. Looks like he’s working on some wiring. You join him, and begin fiddling with it yourself while he observes for a moment, making sure you do it right before he moves on.
“No, like this,” he says, taking your hands in his. He could be so…casual about touching you. Like it didn’t mean anything to him. For him, it probably didn’t.
His hands are a lot bigger than yours.
He maneuvers your fingers, showing you how to wrap the wire, and you’re left with a slight blush on your face after he lets go of your hands and backs away.
“You okay?” he asks calmly, as if he didn’t just fluster you with his actions.
Were you still…just a close friend in his eyes? Probably.
“Yeah I’m fine! I’m doing it correctly now, right?” he steps over to you to peer over your shoulder and watch you work. You’re acutely aware of the height difference between the two of you.
“Yep, you’ve got it,” he says, almost sounding a bit proud of you.
“Good,” you say.
“Yeah,” he agrees.
Silence. Awkward silence, until he gets back to his own work while you are left to wrap the wire.
It would take time, but one day you’ll confess to him. You’ll tell Senku how you really feel about him.
But when you look over, and see him so focused on his mission of restoring humanity, you know now’s not the time.
Not while you’re both busy trying to save everyone.
That’s what he’d tell you, you could imagine.
“Let’s wait,” he’d say. “Until we’ve saved every last person.”
And he’d be right, of course…Senku was always right, it’s one of the things you liked about him.
One day you’d tell him.
But not today.
For now, you just focus on wrapping the wire, and watching him from the corner of your eye.

I watched salt burn today, and it wasn’t even that bad; people are being so dramatic. My English nerd came out tho, cuz I could write a 5 page essay on the symbolism and metaphorical aspects of that movie. The bathtub scene, the vampire scene, and the grave scene all have such a deeper meaning to them THAT NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT.
⚠️SPOILERS⚠️
To sum this up and because I don’t wanna type so much lemme just do bullet points:
‼️it’s 3am and I am exhausted so if this makes no sense I apologize in advanced‼️
- the puppet thing was a literal symbol and connection to Oliver. HE WAS A PUPPET MASTER, HE WAS CONTROLLING THE WHOLE NARRATIVE. At the end when he’s dancing and the puppet thing is there with the rocks on top, each rock is representing a puppet that he controlled that he basically created.
-Oliver was an English major. HE WAS A WRITER AND READER. Being a writer and a puppet master are one of the same. He was writing his own story; his own narrative. He was controlling everything to go just as he planned it.
- to connect to the previous point: the bathtub, vampire, and grave scenes; the three main grotesque scenes of the movie. NOW THIS IS PROBABLY ME REACHING BUT LISTEN. Oliver was a writer he was creating a story one where he himself came out on top. Every story needs a beginning, middle, and end. I believe Oliver saw his body (not himself but his body iykwim) as the physical book. Consuming the cummy bath water I think could be interpreted as him consuming the beginning of life; we all know he gets off on the idea of holding life and death in his hands so to consume these aspects of his story they became sexual in a sense. The vampire scene: he was consuming life; blood is life and by consuming that directly from a living person he was consuming the middle of his story. NOW THE GRAVE SCENE: Death; he was consuming the end of his story; everything ends in death so by fucking the grave of the man who started him on his path he was ending the story in a sense. Obviously we know that wasn’t the end because more people died BUT THE SCENES HAPPENED IN ORDER AND THEY WERE THE MOST SEXUAL SCENE CONTAINING OLIVER HIMSELF.
-to connect to the puppet point: when he kills the mom (forgot her name) and she’s dead, he is trying to keep her arms up to hug him but they keep falling and he keeps trying to put them back. This was a literal scene of him acting as a puppet master, controlling the actions of a physical form physically. If that makes sense.
-the movie started with Oliver telling the story of how he may have been in love with Felix, you don’t know who he’s talking to until the end when you find out he’s basically admitting everything he did to the mother right before he kills her. He got away with everything. He’s a narcissist and he’s pretentious (as all artists are you have to be if you’re creating something because you’re creating it for others) he WANTS someone to know what he did. He WANTS the credit for his success. So by telling the mom everything beginning to end, he’s telling his story. In doing so he admits everything.
-him dancing naked: I don’t think this was meant as something sexual. I think this scene was meant to represent the freedom Oliver felt. He got everything he wanted. He achieved his goal. To further this point he looks longingly and almost admirably at the puppet box thing with the rocks on it. That was (to him) the representation of his story, of his success; it’s like when a writer finally finishes a story or an artist finally finishes a piece of art they’ve been working on for years; he’s feeling that euphoric freedom and accomplishment and it’s represented by him dancing naked in his prize; the house.
-Yes, he was sexual, and the movie in general was a sexual thing. However, I think that was to show his all consuming nature of his plan. Being one with his story.
-Smth I wish they went into detail about: his home life; why was he the way he was? Was he just born that way? Or did something traumatic happen to him for him to become what he did?
-do I think he was in love with Felix? No. I don’t think he can feel or understand the emotion of love. I think he had an obsession with Felix because he was the start of his story, he was the one that led Oliver to everything he was to achieve.
-it’s 3 am and I can’t think of anything else but I will add if I think of smth else cuz I’m definitely leaving things out 😩

hi, love <3 so, here's a random thought I'd like to share with you.
I always mention how much I would've loved to see The Wolf instead of The original as a TVD spin off, but, even though my though I still stand this statement, I think it would've not been the same.
Let me elaborate:
as I said many times before, your writing is the key of the whole story. Since you always narrates things such as inner thoughts, feelings and point of views, we also get an explanation about why a certain thing is happening ( i.e. the ending smut of chapter 30). However, no matter how talented the actor is, this thing never happens in TV shows, and it sadly leads to misinterpretation (either of the character or their action) and "randomness".
For example: Caroline is my babygirl, but I just know that if people would've *watched* instead of *reading* The Wolf, they would've hated her. Calling her a bad s/o, mother and friend because they would just judge her by her actions without knowing what's going on with the characters, misinterpreting her struggle for bitchness or something along those lines.
In conclusion, even though I would pay MILLIONS to just erase TO and bring TW to live action, I'm also happy to know that my favs are "covered" from the hate they have already received because the shows never portrait them and their issues in the right way.
that's it, just wanted to share this piece of mind that have been floating around my head for a while! lemme know what you think!
Under the cut because I got rambly. 😂
That makes sense. Obviously books/fics/any written content will always be much more dense than TV shows or movies because you get to be inside characters' heads, while on TV content you can only count on actors finding a way to translate these emotions, and some of them don't even have that capacity tbh.
Not to say that The Wolf would've been better than the actual show (I mean, I have my biased opinions, but that's just me 😂), but I think the writing on The Originals obviously contributed a lot to how bad the show was a lot of the time. It simply lacked substance, there were many times when things just straight out didn't make sense. At first glance it might seem like TW and TO are almost interchangeable, but they're really not, and this is a point I have been making over the years. It's not just about the obvious changes (Caroline instead of Hayley, which is a BIG change btw), but it's especially about the more subtle ones. The amount of thought I put into those scenes, characters, dialogues - it might not seem like it, but it's crazy. And so if you read the final product and you think 'wow! this makes sense! it should've been like this!' it's because there were loads of changes done to not only that part, but parts that came before, that suddenly, when put together, paint things under a completely different light.
The problem with TO for me is that it starts off from a place of complete nonsense, so everything that comes after that is building on top of a fragile foundation. I mean, they start off the show by retconning every single character to a certain degree. What can we expect after that? They were more interested in erasing everything that came before on The Vampire Diaries than in doing justice to the characters, so there's no way that could've ever been 100% solid. It had its moments, I can't say that it didn't, but it was mostly scattered scenes here and there, or ideas you could see that were good in theory (like the premise of S3), rather than entire story arcs within the show.
My point is that I don't think the lack of inner monologuing is the main problem with TO. There is a way to have compelling and profound writing even when you don't have narration to compose your scenes, and the fact some screenwriters are incapable of doing that is the reason why so many book to TV adaptations are so crappy. You have to be really inventive to make it work, and the crew on TO simply wasn't. But there were moments!
However, regarding Caroline and the things she does throughout the story, like going back to Mystic Falls in TW2 for instance, or when she leaves the compound in TW1. Honestly, even if that had been written by the best screenwriter in the world (obviously not me), and if Candice King had given an Oscar-worthy performance, people would still call her a bitch. 😂 There's a real edge of misogyny in how people judge female characters a lot more harshly than their male counterparts, especially when the things they do displease the male character, which was the case here. I got so many comments from people who were mad at Caroline because 'she should've just trusted Klaus, Klaus is a hybrid, he's the strongest, he knows better', completely disregarding the fact Klaus is basically a psychopath with trust and anger issues who was by no means a pillar of warmth and sanity a lot of the time. Caroline was, from start to finish, the most reasonable, stable person in that entire story, but there were many times when people were blaming her for things that were just not her fault. She was pregnant, alone, scared, trying to stay alive, to protect her child, and Klaus was at the peak of a downward spiral where he was listening to absolutely no one, but somehow Caroline was the one in the wrong for not trusting that he wouldn't act like a maniac. 😂
I'm not saying that is what you're saying, btw, I'm just saying Caroline would've been judged no matter what. But yes, she probably would've been very harshly criticized if this had been the show. Already she is! There's a lot of people who dislike her for how hard she was on Klaus, like he didn't deserve it. 😂
Having said all that 😂 I do give myself some credit for the fact people were feeling so much for Klaus in spite of everything lol He's very intense and dramatic in how he takes offense. If he thinks he's been wronged (and he thinks he's been wronged whenever someone doesn't take his side in a dispute, whatever that might be), he just goes all out, and he's merciless in how he judges the people around him, alwaus making himself out to be the victmized party. He might regret his actions later (usually because of that darned little thing called consequence), but never initially, and he's also terrible at apologies. So I wanted his POVs to be about how the whole world was against him, and how he knew what he was doing, and he couldn't trust anyone, etc etc, and people bought it. Personally, I was always on Caroline's side, but even though I know people were likely to side with Klaus anyway because that's the way it is, and people are biased towards him, I also think I might have manipulated them a little bit.
But I just reminded myself today that there is a very basic difference between canon and TW that means one could never replace the other which is that Caroline is a witch. 😂 That justifies her getting pregnant, but then it changes her entire backstory.
I hope my response didn't come out as though I'm being harsh or anything. Your pondering just got me thinking, and that's actually something I've thought about a lot throughout the years because I have certainly gotten many comments like what you said. Thanks very much for sharing! I really love reading that kind of thing. ❤️

Sugar Daddy!Chuuya
Tumblr media
Tags: 18+ MDNI, talks of alcohol and alcohol consumption, mentions of sugar daddy relationship, mention of previous age gap relationships, use of the term daddy, nicknames (baby), some small general smut
WC: 728
AN: I ignored all my other pieces to finish this considering the events of chapter 101, so here’s everyone’s happiness for the week for ya’ll manga readers :’)
Tumblr media
Unsuspecting Chuuya whose eyes were scanning the wine bottle in his hands. Would this be his drink of choice for the weekend? “Y’know if you’re looking at that, you should really try this.” An unfamiliar voice chimed up from behind him, an arm extending out with a different bottle of wine. Raising his eyebrow in curiosity he grabbed the bottle with his free hand, inspecting it before putting the bottle he originally had back on the rack. “You must really know your stuff, hm?” He turned to look at the mysterious person who initiated contact with him and was met with your mischievous smirk.
You did this often, hide in plain sight and carefully go people watching. You learned a lot this way, how to tick people off, how to interact with them, picking up on likes and dislikes and using it to your advantage. You used this trait of yours in particular to appeal to the men around you, more specifically the ones who had money. The lavish gifts these men gave you without a second thought never failed to surprise you, and in all honesty you reveled in it. The moment Chuuya walked in you could tell he had money, the way he dressed, the way he held himself, a certain sense of confidence dripping off of him that screamed to you like a siren. And you were grateful, grateful to have found someone new, someone who was, thank god, your age.
It was in that moment in the store that you met face to face where you both fell in love. No strings attached was always a lie, because when you were with Chuuya, you felt free, free like that constant funny fuzzy feeling in your stomach when you propelled from a steep incline in a car or a roller coaster. Free like floating aimlessly in the ocean, rays of sunlight softly warming your cheeks as the cold water touched your arms.
Chuuya lived both lavishly and modestly. While he partook in fine dining paired with wine, and occasionally was interested in high fashion, he also wasn't one to turn down a night spent on the couch, watching television until he fell asleep. He would always make you taste whatever new wine he would buy with him, mindfully pouring a glass for you and watching as you would take your first sip before he did. Those overly sweet and sour kisses that followed afterwards as the wine lingered on both your lips and tongues.
He was one to always make sure that his appreciation for fashion influenced you in some way. He always made sure to buy you whatever you wanted, making sure your wardrobe was never close to empty. "Don't you worry, daddy will buy you whatever you want." He would smirk while swiping his card before grabbing the shopping bag, holding it for you if it was too heavy.
He was cliche, always asking you to show off what you got after a long day out shopping, making sure to take in and appreciate every outfit you modeled for him. A “C’mhere, lemme get a closer look at you.” would fall from his lips before gesturing at you, grabbing you and pulling you into his lap once you were within reach of him. Not a second wasted before he was peppering kisses on your neck, your jaw, your lips. “Chuuya wait, don’t wanna ruin the clothes already.” You would pout at his actions of harshly tugging at the new fabric, voice whiny and breathless. “Don’t worry baby, can just buy you a new one later.” He replied matter of factly which then followed a quick undressing session, hastily pulling off your clothes before tossing them to the floor. He was always eager for this part, hands roaming lovingly up and down your body before positioning you comfortably in his lap. Making you ride him at an uncomfortably slow pace until you were worked up and begging for more. Of course he gives you what you want, he always gives his baby what they want. Flipping you over so he’s now on top of you, thrusting into you at a slightly more vigorous pace. He loves hearing you whine underneath him, begging him for more with pleading eyes. He’ll always make sure to give you just whatever you want, anything to make you happy.

So in Danny Gonzalez's video about the Hype House show he shares a clip where one of them says "once you're cancelled, that's all you're known for" and of course, Danny points out the fact that they are on their own fucking show so clearly that's not true but also,,,,
First, they're all like 19 and TikTok had only been out for like 5 years at the time. You absolutely cannot declare that people will only ever know you for being cancelled when you've had at most 5 years and a tiny chunk of your entire life to have been famous and cancelled at all
And, the second thing, which I keep saying, is that unless a celebrity committed a literal crime, their career is gonna be fine. Kevin Spacey and Bill Cosby are both probably never gonna work again, but that's because they committed crimes, but other people are gonna be fucking fine.
Dave Chappelle is still doing shows, Gina Carano could easily just go back to wrestling, JK Rowling is still selling merch every day and is making a new show, Jake Paul is still huge on YouTube, Jeffree Star is still selling makeup, Shane Dawson still has a successful channel. None of these people have actually faced any real damage for their actions.
If you want examples of this in the long run, lemme ask you, what is the first thing your mind goes to when you hear "Michael Richards" or see a picture of him? You probably just think about Kramer from Seinfeld, not Michael Richards screaming the N-word at black audience members during a stand-up show. When you think of Judy Garland, you probably think about The Wizard of Oz, not that picture of her wearing minstrel show blackface.
So, no, whoever the fuck in the Hype House said that, that is not all you're ever going to be known for. That did not destroy your career as Danny Gonzalez pointed out. I don't even know what anyone in the Hype House ever did to get cancelled (Although, I don't know anyone in the Hype House).
People act like celebrities getting "cancelled" (a.k.a. facing consequences for their shitty actions) is cruel and ruining people's lives. Give it ten fucking minutes and no one will care. How many people who said that they hate and can't support JK Rowling are planning on watching the new show? How many people still listen to Chris Brown knowing how abusive he is?
And I'm not totally innocent of this either because I still watch Seinfeld and shit.
I don't care if you consume media from someone after they've been revealed to be a piece of shit, as long and you're aware of the harm their actions have caused and you don't try to defend them or anything, but if someone gets cancelled and you're in the corner crying over the poor millionaires and prime ministers getting in trouble for wearing blackface and beating women, then please actually try to fucking think for once and realize that history has shown time and time again that these people don't actually face consequences. They gave pretend consequences, maybe losing followers or getting dropped from a couple projects until their PR team sweeps it under the rug and everyone who was pissing themselves because a celebrity got in minor trouble for horrible actions will forget about it.
In conclusion: shut the fuck up about cancel culture

I caved & watched a piece of live action with sis. A piece because, honest to Nika, I couldn't handle more.
Lemme just say... I honestly don't understand what people praise here. Maybe I simply don't have comparison to other live actions or netflix shows in general (I tried The Witcher and Stranger Things and both became boring to me in their early stages) but hhhh why do they act like plastic action figures, throwing "funny" one-liners, jumping chaotically around, and overall seem more marvelesque than an adaptation of One Piece?
And why they don't act like... Like them. Why Zoro behaves like wanna be slavic hooligan, he even walks like one, oh my god, I swear, I run into guys like this on my way for groceries. I thought Luffy will be my biggest problem but nah, one look at Zoro quickly set me in understanding that Luffy is not the worst that can happen to my faves.
Why the camera man has adhd. The camerawork at times made me feel dizzy. At times I couldn't even follow what was going on.
Also.
How can I erase that Targaryen Helmeppo naked scene from my memory. Please. Please.

y'all, as someone who has seen plenty of live action adaptations fail, as someone who avoided One Piece for a long time because the art style was too distracting, lemme tell ya
this live action adaptation is very well done. (And yes, I am looking into the source material now because of it.) Iñaki Godoy (Luffy) and Jeff Ward (Buggy) are my two personal faves and the soundtrack is just *-chef kiss*-
I dont think I need to tell any OP fans to watch this but if you were on the fence like me, you should absolutely go for it.
(also, been quietly delighted to discover Chris Sabat VAs Zoro in the anime which is a different kind of distracting. It's his stern Toshinori voice with a sprinkle of losing his shit on occasion which is hilarious.)

Hey missmungoe!
I was wondering if you've already seen the trailer of the one piece live action? Because apparently there's another one, and in this one we can see a lot of characters and a certain someone that we know you'll like a lot!
Personally I didn't think they'll do a good job with "roguishing" (lmao this word doesn't even exist😭) and styling Shanks' actor but- lemme just say this: I was wrong VERY wrong.
As our resident Shanks appreciator, what do you think of him? And the theme of the one piece live action in general?
nb: while watching it, I felt as if I was witnessing one of your Shanties stories! like the theme in general and the cinematography is so YOURS, From YOUR STORIES like i envisioned them on my head at least😂
He looks good! I shamelessly wish that shirt was missing a few more buttons, but I'll take it! (Also, half the messages in my inbox this morning were variants of "he's RUGGED!!" and I feel seen, guys<3) Ruggedness aside though, like I've mentioned before, I'm more interested in seeing how Gadiot interprets the character, so I'll reserve my complete judgement until then ;)
Theme-wise, it looks delightfully swashbuckling, and I love that they're leaning into the colourful and campy aspects! And ahhhh WHAT AN INCREDIBLE COMPLIMENT, because this vibe is everything I want for Shanties<3

Disney ask game:
💖 Favorite movie?: honestly it's hard for me. But i love all the classics. But hunchback of Notre dame, beauty and the beast, sleeping beauty, snow white, mulan, and i know it's unpopular opinion but i loved pocahontas for two reasons. One i had zero to nothing for representation growing up knowing and having native background (now i might have better rep but again this was younger me) and two i just liked it face value. And that's ok. I know the real history, and i can like AND give valid criticism for a piece of media. Oh and i love treasure planet, and princess and the frog. Underrated af movies.
💕 Favorite underrated movie/show?: like i said treasure planet and princess and the frog.
💀 Least favorite movie?: i don't know. Im not really a fan of "modern" disney films. It's not that they aren't fun or good. It's just they dont have the same charm ya know? Plus older disney movies weren't afraid to get raw and real. Like bro,we aint never getting another hunchback of Notre dame.
🖌 2D animation or 3D animation?: i prefer 2d but some 3d is fine.
🌄 What movie has the prettiest animation?: honestly i can't say. There's too many i love.
🎶 Which movie has the best music?: hunchback, the lion king, mulan, beauty and the beast, honestly there's too many. I'd say hunchback has the best overall ost. Because holy shit. Im not religious by any means, not heavily at least(i do believe but not by the book but by my heart) but church choir and those chants and deep bells give me goosebumps every time.
📣 Which remake is the best?: honestly not many remakes and sequels of disney work. Some are ok but poorly executed.
🤡 Which remake is the worst?: ok as for sequels. Hunchback because of it felt like a pity movie for quasi and i hated it. As for live action remakes i dont like any of em. But beauty and the beast because i just do not like emma watson. I dont hate her,i just dont like her vibe. *shrug*
🪄 If you could change 3 things about any movies/shows, what would you change?: honestly lemme get really real for a sec. There is several movies id change but i wanna change that quasi and esmie get together in the end. Thats all i ask. And i want gaston punted into the sun. Im very simple to please.
🎥 If you could create/star in a remake, what would you do?: honestly i dunno. I'd kill it as belle I'd think but eh. I just wanna write my own movie.
🎞 If you could create an original movie, what would it be about?: any movie where the girl doesn't get with the guy. She doesn't need a sidekick. She's just doing her thing. And honestly we can learn a thing or teo from mulan. But if i could. I'd love to make a proper and honest to god movie about samurai. But tastefully done. Tome gozen movie anyone? Or a simple movie about friendship. And the importance of it. And platonic relationships being just as important as Romantic ones.
🎨 Have you ever made fanart? (Share if you’re comfortable and it’s sfw!): yes. But not much. As of yet. I'll share when i get something i feel is worth to share.
🦜 Favorite animal sidekick?: honestly i dunno. Iago is adorkable. R.i.p Gilbert godfrey. I miss you. There's too many i like and think is adorable and fun but i dont really pay attention to that when i watch a disney movie. I pay attention to vibes. You feel with disney my dudes.
💃 Favorite character?: too many to list. Fr. I just have too many i think is just neat and deserve a seat at the table. ♡ my fave villains however are judge claude frollo, falicifer, hades, cruella(the real one not the prequel weird one they made),Ursula(my beautiful sea queen!),jafar, and scar. Sorry im a villains kinda gal more than a princess gal.

What I'm Watching: November 2023
The Fall of the House of Usher
Tumblr media
Sycrhjodxfhbaudiffebuvehtxt I'm obsessed with this show. So far, this is the first and only Mike Flanagan adaptation where I was familiar with the source material already, and it was a fucking BLAST playing Spot The Reference. Additionally, the conclusion of the rave scene has been burned into my memory ever since and I cannot for the life of me get it out of my head, in the best and worst way possible. Sooooooo good, but oh my fucking god. And it's been a long time coming, but this series has elevated Carla Gugino for me to Rachel Weiss meme status. You know the one I'm talking about. I just.... THIS SHOW IS SO FUCKING GOOD. The writing, the story, the performances, the cinematography, the scares, the all of it. It's split down the middle between stuff you can point and go "ha! I knew it!" and stuff you just can't see coming, and it's all top tier. I typically need a cool down period to recover after most Flanagan stuff, but I'm just itching to get back to this one as soon as possible. Is a good amount of that just me thirsting over Verna? Well, yeah. It's pretty much Gugino's show, and everyone else merely appears in it. Actually, that's not fair. Everyone involved not only fucking went for it, they fucking nailed it. This is Mike's last run with Netflix, and by god, the whole team went out with a bang.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Tumblr media
Let me start by saying that my post mentioning how much I wanna bang Spike went as viral as things tend to go on this blog, so I'm glad that resonated with some folks. 😂 I'll admit, I have a lot less nostalgia for the anime as a lot of the audience for this, having only seen it twice, but as far as adaptations go, this was perfectly okay. As someone pointed out already on one of my posts, it's a lot less existential than the OG, and therefore a lot less heavy. And since all I wanted out of this was a good time, I was happy with it. I was EXTREMELY happy with the opening credits in particular. My stance on adaptations in general is that if a piece can stand on its own merit, I don't care how closely it adheres to the source material, and in my opinion, the live action succeeds. In fact, my one and only complaint is...not enough Ein!
Anne With An E
Tumblr media
The books stay in my reading rotation, so despite my philosophy on adaptations, I had very high expectations going into this several years late, don't worry about it. And...I was not disappointed. I ended up crying over almost every episode, and that never happens, so... 😅 It's so sweet and I was charmed from the get-go. I've still got a season left, and since it seems to be doing its own thing apart from the books now, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm also dreading it, because I'm not ready for it to be over. Then again, that's how it feels finishing the books as well, so that's only how it should be.
Five Nights At Freddy's
Tumblr media
Lemme tell you, I've known jack shit about FNAF aside from "evil Chuck E. Cheese" for years now. I've had the tags filtered for almost as long as I've been on Tumblr (I love the people I follow, but I gotta curate my experience). I've made it my mission to go as long as I can without knowing anything at all about this franchise if for no reason other than it's fucking e v e r y w h e r e and I was sick of the overexposure. But now because a relative of an acquaintance of a family friend was one of the cannon fodder characters, I got roped into watching this and my streak is broken. I can't unknow what I know about this franchise. Which I'm extra annoyed about, considering what the creator of the games tends to put his royalties towards. 😑 From a film standpoint, it's fine. I'm not sure what age range the target demographic is, but having the horror stuff happen off screen made it feel more vanilla than the average episode of Supernatural, and I'll let that speak for itself. The look and atmosphere were exactly what I'd imagine if told to picture an evil Chuck E. Cheese, the animatronics are appropriately creepy (though let's be honest, it doesn't take much to make ANY animatronic creepy), and I was a little surprised and impressed with the soundtrack. And it was nice to see Josh Hutcherson in something new, though it's still so odd seeing him as an adult. I'm most familiar with him as a kid in RV, and holy fuck, I feel old looking at him now. I could have used a little more Matthew Lillard--why would you get Matty Lilly in your movie and then NOT do something with him?!--but given the character/story/what have you, I get it. One plot point in particular didn't stick the landing, as far as I'm concerned. In an effort to tie up all loose ends, it made things too contrived in a "that's convenient but now it makes less sense" kind of way. Don't know if that's how it goes in the game, and I don't care enough to find out. All in all, I've seen worse, I still don't get the hype, and I'm still not the target audience. And that's perfectly okay.
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet Of Curiosities
Tumblr media
A horror anthology? With GDT?? Sign me up yesterday! I don't think there was a single episode I didn't like. And I wasn't prepared to recognize so many names in the credits. Actors, directors, composers, authors, you name it. And it was fun! The stories were bizarre, assorted creature designs were gnarly, and whatever else was going on with the vibes episode to episode, they all felt consistently creepy and sinister. "The Autopsy" has the distinction of being one of the few things I've watched that almost made me puke. "Pickman's Model" was the first thing to freak me out bad enough I stayed awake to get it out of my head in a Very Long Time. "The Viewing" was the only ending that felt unfinished, it was so abrupt, but the style and aesthetic was so *chef kiss* I'll overlook it. (Side note: that episode's director also did Mandy, which I've been meaning to get to for awhile now? Hoo hoo, have I got some visuals to look forward to!) I knew as soon as I saw Jennifer Kent did an entry that hers was going to be my favorite, and that's not even coming from a biased place. "The Murmuring" is beautiful and heartbreaking. Easily my favorite aspect of the series is how you get a sense of each individual director's style BUT the entries themselves are so flavored with GDT, the whole thing stays cohesive. Now all I can do is hope for another season. :D

7, 15, 28 for the ask game!
7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
Ooh, that's tough, I've got lots of bits I'm really proud of... I'm fond of this one line from Stories With Missing Pages, when Tara baits Gregor after he insulted her mother.
“Thief,” Gregor said, and Tara saw a tear dripping from his chin. It was cast dramatically in the last light of the day. Nighttime was closing in on them, with all its silence, and their harsh breathing felt violent.
“And the last thing,” Tara said, stepping forward and staring up at him. Her hair was sticking to her forehead, her nose was running, and she was smiling. She tilted her head.
I feel like this was the image I wanted for my kid Tara. She gets a small feeling of power from making someone she hates (even for an unfair reason) suffer in a small way, and in the process maybe hurts herself more than she hurts him. I also liked the general image of the scene and the moments leading up to it; as a kid, I often sat in sunbeams and watched dust floating, and the idea of high gothic windows with massive beams angling down on a stone floor was very striking to me. The contrast of warmth with the oldness of the building and bitter feelings just felt right. Also, I liked being able to show that Gregor, for all his stuck-up-ness, was just a teenage boy who was hurt by his father's infidelity and was redirecting that anger at someone he didn't love as much.
15: If you could choose one of your fics to be filmed, which would you choose?
Well of course I'd pick the Morning series because it's one of my favorites, but it might not be popular as a mainstream live-action movie. I'd like it as an artsy animated movie lol. Adolescence of Utena style. Alternatively, I think my Wilson family thanksgiving would make a very funny holiday movie, with sound effects and musical cues.
28: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
Oooh I like a lot of fics and writers so lemme think... A lot of my favorite writers I'm already buddies with @raven-harlot (you) @ravenkinnie , @thebestestbat et cetera. The problem is I'm always reading fics then not bookmarking them, so I'm having a dreadful time trying to find all of them, so I'll just post one that I don't know:
HannaSedai: They haven't posted in years but they wrote my all time favorite Apprentice!Dick fic, Northern Star. Their characterization and strategic OC use is a huge inspiration to me.
Thank you!!!
