Ohhh boy wow. Just saw Challengers and my God my bisexual brain was firing all signals. Like within the first five minutes I realised 2 things about this movie. 1 it understands that tennis is a truly boring sport and instead makes it an incredibly sweaty, sexy, compelling game to watch. 2 this movie is bi as all hell and equally in love with all 3 of these people (as was I by the end of the movie).

SPOILERS:

God I was enraptured I think this films pretty subjective and can be seen in a few different ways but I just saw it as 3 people who think their playing the same game but none of them really are. Zendayas playing to win at Tennis, when she can't do it herself she plays through her husband. Art is playing to win the woman he thinks he loves and needs.

And Patrick is the most interesting of all, is he playing because unlike those two he actually needs to out of monetary needs? Maybe but doubt it. Is he playing to win Zendaya? And willing to be her champion unlike Art? Possibly but honestly I think it's the third option. He's playing to get back Art, Art is always a presense in their relationship and he puts him before himself. For sure the unusual sexual history between them is there. The strong friendship turned rivalry. The sheer sexual tension (Goddamn that churro!!) But oddly enough for the guy who may seem like the disloyal asshole type of the three he is both the most honest and oddly loyal. He may sleep with Zendaya but the second she asks him to throw the match? He's furious, he's insulted and refuses. But NOT for himself but for Art. His first words are "How could you do that to Art?" To cheapen his victory, if he were to know would crush Art. Art is always at the tip of his tounge and whats happening.

When they start making out in the dorm Zendaya won't stop talking about tennis but equally whats Patrick talking about? Art. When he finds out Arts not just interested in Zendaya but is acting snakey he's proud.

And god that sauna scene?? (I mean yeah its hot but I mean the dialouge!) He asks Art if he'd miss it and he completely doesn't understand what he's really asking. He once again is talking to somone who thinks their talking about tennis but he's talking about anything but.

I knew that bloody signal was gonna come back and when they had sex in the car I was like "okay this is it, he's gonna tell Art" but the question was.. will it be to hinder him? Make him lose his cool so he loses the game..? OR will he do it to truly spur Art into a game changing rage and unlock his fighting spirit? And as the scene unfolded I belived it was the latter. And it was NOT for Zendaya because he could've easily thrown the match like she said but NO he wanted Art to win fair and square. He wanted to help him do that.

That wordless communication they share? That Zendayas just sat on the outside of not undertanding but worried? Golden. The brutal match and then that gorgeous smile. When I think Art realises what his friend has done and really why he did it. And Patricks, the sheer joy of seeing Art smile at him again. That beautiful, fly through the air and that throw of his own racket down so he can catch Art as he gloriously wins the match. Because tennis was never really what mattered to Patrick, and neither was it really to Art. And despite it being Arts victory they've really both won.

And Zendayas roar of victory from the crowd to me was almost funny. Because she won too. Her husband, her extension of her own career and self won his match with his challenge. His/her past. She also sees it as a victory even though I really won't be suprised if it's lost her both her husband and her back up career/boyfriend. And maybe she won't mind that so much because she got what she wanted. Because she was playing a different game.

Also banging soundtrack, loved it. Also this is just my view of the film and it really can be read multiple ways I'm sure, would love to hear other peoples ideas on it! What can I say I just love so bi emotional drama!

One of my favorite metaphors of Glass Onion is the Mona Lisa vs the Glass Onion.

Miles is constantly comparing himself, whether directly or indirectly, to the Mona Lisa. He wants to be “forever remembered in the same breath” as her. He plays up the mystery and the complexity of the painting, the artistry, the skill and the knowledge that went into it; All traits that he wants others to see in him.

But when Miles is describing the painting, who gets the closeup shot? Not Miles, but Helen. Helen is the one who gets multiple shots throughout the movie mirroring the Mona Lisa- same pose, same unreadable expression.

Because Miles isn’t the Mona Lisa, however much he wishes he was. Miles is the Glass Onion. Something trying to look complex and layered on the outside, when in reality, the center is in plain sight. Miles isn’t some enigmatic genius, he is exactly what he appears to be at first glance: an idiotic, rich, egotistical, shithead.

He didn’t make his own puzzles, he didn’t write his own murder, he didn’t create his own art, he didn’t even come up with the idea for his company. His island is filled with things made by other people. He isn’t even the person who did the thing that will forever connect him to the Mona Lisa. The thing that will forever tie him to Helen Brand.

Helen is the one with complexity. Helen is the one surrounded by mystery. Helen is the one who’s more than meets the eye. Helen is the Mona Lisa, and the Mona Lisa destroyed herself to take down Miles Bron.

I’ve seen a few people talk about the importance of the axe, but I wanted to put my take on it out there too.

Lisa watched her mom get axe murdered, and then her life was uprooted. She had nobody there for her (except taffy but she was misguided). And this person comes along, one who knows her better than anyone, and uses an axe to kill someone right in front of her.

Only this time, the axe is used to protect her. Something that destroyed her entire life is now being wielded by the one person she’s beginning to trust and feel seen and heard by.

And I don’t think it’s wrong for her to be thrilled and morbidly infatuated by this!!! Reclaiming and healing from trauma isn’t always pretty like everyone wants it to be, especially for young women and girls.

The axe becomes something to protect her and get revenge on those who hurt her. People who were supposed to be good to her, that she THOUGHT were good to her, but betrayed her.

The axe is something that she now wields.

She gets to reclaim it. She gets to trust someone again. She gets to feel loved, seen, and heard.

This movie is about reclaiming trauma as much as it is about a zombie love story!!!

In the first episode when Argos says this, we just treat it as a joke. We just think he's being ignorant and annoying.

But what if he wasn't actually being ignorant?

In Argos deals with death episode, we find out that Argos lived with his great great grandpa and he had no other family relatives, and his grandad was a banana leaf. Now in the void ppl are usually racist to banana leafs, so maybe that's the reason his grandad didn't have a lot of friends (Quote from Argos, "It's just sad..he didn't have any friends. I'm gonna be the only one at his funeral"). And also, in the Argos birthday episode, we find out that Argos never had any friends. This might be because ppl didn't wanna be friends with him cuz his grandad is a banana leaf. Which means that this quote is actually true, he did go through a lot of struggles with loneliness throughout his childhood because he's one sixteenth banana leaf. Now he did worded it weird, like people treat him badly just cuz he's one sixteenth banana leaf and not cuz of his banana leaf grandad, but can we really blame him for it? That man has never had a friend before and the only person he talked to is like small talk with random ppl he work for and also his grandad. Me personally I think this was just him trying to be empathetic and helpful, and not realise that saying that is actually pretty annoying.

The point of Into The Spiderverse is that anyone could be Spider-Man. It was the whole point of the ending speech. And Across The Spiderverse continues this theme perfectly.

The second Miguel started talking about things you need to be Spider-Man, things you have to do, patterns you have to follow, I knew he and everyone going along with this was wrong. I understand why they think this way but they’re wrong.

That miles wasn’t supposed to be a spider at all is so perfect for this. Because when you strip back all the standards and rules it does MATTER. They’re too in their own heads about it. Anyone can be Spider-Man, they just have to rise to the occasion.

And following these rules over that is where they went wrong.

I think Branch has abandonment issues because of everything he went through and Poppy knows this.

Yes, both are true and I HAVE to talk about Poppy's behaviour in Trolls Band Together more cuz she doesn't get enough appreciation for her character development and for how much she loves her boyfriend.

At the beginning of the movie she wants him to give his brothers a second chance because she wants him to be with his family. He's not happy about it at first but later he is and she's super happy because she thinks everything is perfect just like he thought.

Until it wasn't. When they both learn at the same time that his brothers don't want to see each other again after rescuing Floyd he leaves and she realizes that this means to him way more than it means to them so she doesn't waste time arguing with them (Branch already did that) and she goes with Branch. She loves him, she doesn't need her favourite boy band to reunite anymore, her priority is making her boyfriend happy again and that can only be accomplished by saving Floyd. But when she finds Branch again he is cold because he's hurt and he doesn't want her help because he thinks that she will abandon him too just like they did. I can only imagine how much it hurt her when he said that, she thought that he believes her that she loves him because she really does. She was already betrayed by a guy she cared about in the past (remember Creek? Ugh I hate him). But instead of focusing on her feelings she's focusing on his because he needs reassurance now more than she does. She trusts Branch, she loves him, she knows he loves her and she tells him that she's with him and reminds him that they've always been there for each other.

She even put his feelings before her sister, when she had to choose. No one's saying that she would never come back to find Viva after the mission is done but she came here to help Branch and that's what she's gonna do above all.

Yes, Branch is an amazing boyfriend, and I'm so thankful that the writers made him this way. I'm not saying that he doesn't deserve the praise he gets, he really does. But I'm saying that Poppy deserves more praise in general. She's so amazing and so underrated.

We all know this scene when Puss faces his past lives.

I'll be honest, something was disturbing in this scene when I first saw it. I'm rewatching the scene and trying to put my finger on it. Then it hit me. That Tik Tok comment I saw that said the Lost Souls were acting like the sins from the Bible. The connections people made from this film and toxic masculinity. This scene right here is oozing with toxicity and masculinity.

Before I go any further, I would like to say that I am not down-talking men. I'm analyzing this scene as a Mexican woman.

Anyways, here are some traits in toxic masculinity.

Self-reliance - Men believe they have to do all the work and handle everything by themselves. Independent at all times, they need no one. They believe doing things by themselves will make them successful in life. Being vulnerable will cause the man to be ridiculed. That's Puss throughout the film.

Promiscuous - There's nothing wrong with having sexual relations with others. If it's your thing, it's your thing. But there is such thing as too much of a good thing. Being flirtatious is ok, healthy even, but when it becomes very frequent or an obsession, it can lead to problems in forming long-term romantic relationships. Puss in a nut shell.

Being violent and dominant - Most men believe they have to be strong, physically mostly. So they take risks in life and try to beat others in their own game. Taking risks can be a way to demonstrate dominance. This can include gambling as well. Or dangerous sports. The cause of some of Puss deaths. Not to mention Death pretty much gave Puss a reality check. Puss isn't as strong as he thought he was.

And a big one, refusing to seek help when struggling - self-explanatory. Men try to be emotionless and never seek intimacy with others. Especially with other men as it's seen as a weakness.

All these traits are displayed in this scene. At first, it's fun for Puss because he remembers how much fun he had in his past lives. All the parties, lovers, drinks/food, adventures, risk-taking, everything. But once the adrenaline wears down, Puss knows it's time to leave. But of course, the Lost Souls don't let him. They try their best to convince him to leave Perrito and Kitty and get his lives back. They straight up tell him he doesn't need them and he's better alone. But at this point, Puss already formed a bond with Perrito and is reconnecting with Kitty. He remembers his regrets and this is what makes him determined to go back.

I guess the Souls notice this and start to ridicule Puss for being so vulnerable. Which is something I pointed out already in self-reliance. Men get teased and made fun of if they show even an ounce of vulnerability. Men can't have intimacy with their friends, let alone friends who are men. Men can't be held down by marriage. It sounds over the top but it does happen. I've seen it happen in the past in my household.

Men are also pushed to be physically and emotionally strong. Which is what Puss was trying to do as well. He didn't want to be afraid. He didn't want help and was a lone wolf. He refused to seek help when struggling. Thankfully for him, Perrito was a very determined guy. He followed Puss and helped him become more vulnerable and to open up more. Fixing his relationship with Kitty and becoming fiends.

So yeah, this scene was something alright. Puss was already developing at this point of the film. And then they made him face just how toxic he was being in his past lives. It almost felt like torture for him. But this is an important step in developing into someone better. You have to face your past some time and realize your mistakes so you don't make them again.

Ps, Antonio's voice acting here was incredible. Voicing nine different Puss while making each one unique. From the tone of voice to personality. He deserves some recognition for this scene.

rewatched interstellar tonight and. humanity is saved not because we allow ourselves to be emotionally distant and rational and logical and care for the greater good, humanity is saved because of love. because one guy loved his daughter enough to communicate with her over space and time and she loved him enough to understand. the idea that there is a future humanity out there that is looking back at us and saying I love you. I love you enough to bend a dimension you do not yet understand to save you. Everything is about love.

Can we talk about how much style the first men in black had, like this was Cinematography. The greens and oranges, the blues and that pleasing hazy filter over everything.

It wasn't just like a blockbuster, and it didn't have that CGI cleaness. There was a purposeful look here, it was an unwinding, fast paced, well written conspiracy detective flick.

Like the state troopers at the start with their little uniforms getting covered in goo, the classic UFO crashing on a farm with a cow. It was acknowleding the genre of kooky alien invasion films and then world-building off of it.

It just had such a Clear premise and was able to pull it off so flawlessly cause it knew exactly what it was! And I understand why it was so popular cause it makes you want to be a part of that world, the suits, the glasses, the eye-candy weapons. It all just looks so tactile and fun,., But SO GROUNDED, it's a completely approachable film

Like not to get High Art Film Snobby😭 but can you see it, can you see the difference. It's the same place, same concept but there is such a specific signature here that has just been Stripped away

One thing that I found interesting about Saltburn (2023) is the costume and makeup choices. Venetia has a terrible bleach job. Her roots are showing and admittedly it looks like she did it herself. Her makeup is sloppy, and her clothes are mismatched at times. I thought this was interesting considering the Cattons are rich and she’d be able to afford a good dye job and I bet someone would have taught her how to do makeup. This proves that Venetia has seperate herself from her families wealth.

“Poor Dear Pamela” also doesn’t exactly look like someone who would hang around the Cattons. Her hair is dyed a bright red and She has a good amount of visible tattoos. This is interesting because she isn’t exactly someone that the Cattons would typically choose to spend their time with, making me think that the Cattons simply allow her to be around because it makes them look good. Taking on a “charity case” such as Oliver and allowing someone far different than them to stay with them.

I believe that Felix and Venetia are very disconnected with their wealth. Felix likely felt a need to flaunt his wealth at Oxford due to the attention he was receiving and likely felt like he didn’t have a choice. The kids are definitely disconnected from the wealth but I believe Venetia is far more disconnected. Felix likely doesn’t feel a need for wealth but enjoys the pleasures that the lifestyle gives him

Every time I think about Mulan, I get obsessed with how awesome these three are. So I’mma take a few minutes to rant about it.

This three good balls, bad asses, loveable idiots. They’re fricken adorable and I love them. And like, as a kid, I used to not understand how they became friends with Mulan. I thought they were sexist assholes that only trusted her because, well, you know, she saved China.

But I analyzed the movie as an adult, and honestly? I think they knew Mulan was a girl the whole time, and just kinda, accepted it. Still treated her like one of the guys, wanted to see how long she could keep this up for. Yao and Ling most certainly bet on it while Chien-po was probably like: “Shouldn’t we just… tell her we know so she has people to trust?” And the other two were like: Nah this is funny.

I also think Ling and Chien-Po knew instantly since Yao was too mad to be like: Huh… hmm… something’s off here.

They probably told him later. Like:

Chien-Po: You know, it isn’t nice to hit a lady.

Yao: Wow, didn’t think you had it in ya to be such an ass. I mean, he’s a wimp but sheesh.

Ling: *falling over laughing*

Yao: What the hell’s his problem?

Chien-Po: *whispering* I mean and actual lady, Yao.

Ling: And no one tells! Got it? No telling anyone else. Only us three know. I wanna see how long this goes on for.

Chien-Po: Also… They’ll kill her if they find out, and… She’s our friend now.

Yao: Friend’s a strong word… But sure, I’ll keep it to myself. Besides, only I’m allowed to kill them now.

So yeah, when they later heard that Mulan was alone in the bath pond thing, it was too good an opportunity to miss. I don’t think these himbos even considered how weird it was. They were too distracted with how fricken hilarious it’d be.

That smug smile and Chien-Po’s: This is fine.

They know exactly what they’re doing.

Then with ‘A Girl Worth Fighting For’, Ling brings up the song to cheer everyone up because they’re sore, didn’t choose to go to war, and need something, anything to keep them going. Then once Mulan’s line comes up it’s like: “Oh, right. Forgot about that. Whelp, time to continue messing with her.”

Like: Ight, guys. Whatever she says, probably describing herself. So, whatever she says, say Nah. It’s funny.

The main thing that sent me on this tangent, was this scene

Their shock, their surprise, this reaction isn’t an: “Oh shit, we trained/hung out with/bathed/etc with a girl.” Reaction.

This is a: “Shit they caught her and now they’re gonna kill our friend!” Reaction.

Which, yeah, of course it would be. They have their priorities checked out.

However

If memory serves me right there was no hesitation

There was also no hesitation to trust her when no one else would

Because they didn’t have the feeling of betrayal Shane had for being lied to

And they were totally down to dress in drag

They really just couldn’t care less about Mulan being a girl

And I love them for that

Okay so I watched the Barbie movie today and just WOW! There is so much to unpack, every choice felt intentional and it was just altogether wonderful. But one thing I wanted to touch on was Allan and how I think he represented growing up queer, especially for trans & non-binary youth.

Allan was always out of place and uncomfortable in every scene he was in, he didn’t fit in with the Kens or the Barbies, he was just Allan. Allan was the only Allan that existed, he even questions why he’s the only one in his opening scene. Another thing I noticed is that they paralleled a lot of Kens pining for Barbie back onto Allan with his longing glances and attempts to get Kens attention. He also doesn’t fit when the Kens create their whole “Kendom” patriarchy. Even though he should be benefiting from it, he’s not, because even though he’s not Barbie, he’s also not Ken.

I am once again thinking about the movie Nope and I just realized that a seemingly throwaway line actually has a lot more depth behind it than I anticipated. Tech support worker Angel makes a comment about the TV show "Ancient Aliens", which seems like a comic relief moment at first, but actually really highlights some of the film's underlying themes.

For those unfamiliar with the show, Ancient Aliens is a History channel show in America that basically promotes the "ancient aliens" hypothesis, i.e. that some past extraterrestrial race must have come to earth and is secretly behind technological marvels like the Egyptian pyramids. It focuses a lot on things built by non-Western cultures, from Native Americans to Africans to South Americans, with the heavily implied undertone that people of color couldn't possibly have been advanced enough to create things without the help of aliens. The show has been rightfully criticized for racism and its extremely pseudoscientific content with sparse and misleading evidence. Not only does Ancient Aliens perfectly encompass the concept of spectacle in pop culture, but it constantly erases and downplays the scientific and artistic advancements of whole cultures.

The concept of cultural erasure came up earlier in Nope with Em's speech about being descended from the first Black stuntman, who despite his contributions to film history was overlooked by Hollywood. The Haywood family are some of the only Black horse trainers in the industry, but struggle to keep their business afloat as predominantly white filmmakers dismiss and disrespect them. Em and OJ spend much of the film striving to get the perfect "Oprah shot" that will finally launch them from obscurity and earn them fame and fortune.

Angel's casual reference seems too on-the-nose to be a coincidence. Even as he joins the search for aliens, his whole frame of reference is a clickbaity show that promotes conspiracy theories undermining the achievements and contributions of people of color.

the reason dps is so loved is because of how real it feels, how much we can relate to wanting to find our true self whilst living within societal norms.

the boys each have their own real personalities, and they do human things that any seventeen year old boy would do.

the debate between which poet, cam or knox being the most hated is so fueling because, who would 'betray' their friends like that but also who would go out of their way to chase a girl who has made her feelings clear??

it's not just them though, because even though i've talked about how relatable it is, the boys cling to one another, showing their deepest praises towards eachother - it's also the other boys around them.

the school has all kinds of different age ranges, and whilst you see the younger kids crying, not wanting to leave their parents, being jostled around.

you can see the older kids doing the jostling, messing around with one another (imagine a highschool if you will - year 7s and year 11s - freshmans and seniors).

knox literally grabbing that little kid and moving him aside, spaz's friends in the bathroom with the kazoo, hopkins, and his friends can also be seen teasing each other within the classroom.

mr keating is a new teacher, a teacher who is a free thinker compared to the other, the boys in his class reactions that differ are all very real.

fighting one moment to being friends again - a very common thing amongst boys.

disclaimer: i have only watched the narnia movies, i have not read any of the books. if there is information from the books that relates to any of this i would love to hear it. this post was inspired by @fallingskiesandrisingseas and their character posts of the pevensies

its so horrible thinking about how the pevensies came back to england after basically living another life.

they basically lived a lifetime. they had friends, possibly enemies, lovers maybe, they had people they cared for and who cared for them, they grew up.

and to have all that taken away when they come home, years and years of building a life in narnia gone

sure they have their memories, but not their bodies, friends, kingdom. theres no way they could’ve acclimated back in england after being in narnia for decades. all the costoms they learned, the languages, the repect and adoration they created. gone

i know narnia and beyond is some religious allegory for heaven/an afterlife, but to people who aren’t religious/grew up being taught it, it was devastating to watch. theres no way they would’ve come back home of their own free will.

i mean they grew up, they matured. they knew war and death, love and respect. i mean Lucy became a woman a leader a queen, she had to be taken back to a body that is way to young to know most of that stuff.

i mean how would they even know how to act anymore, act not like nobles, like the commoners they are in england. its been YEARS, theres no way they remember every detail from their past lives. they wouldn’t even need school really, maybe some stuff but would they even want to pay attention. theyre fully mature adults trapped in a childs body.

and how would their kingdom fair when they left without any warning. we see later that it fell to history, but before that happened. their leaders are gone, their protectors, their friends, family, just gone forever. im sure there were people that were trusted to take over, but thats still a big change when losing the kings and queens of narnia

i truly believe they shouldve been able to live in narnia forever. the other movies should’ve been different characters or something else. i love these movies, i just wish they hadn’t ended like that

So I know no one's talking about ATSV anymore and no one's gonna read this but I was checking how long would Gwen stay in prison based on her case, if she got arrested, and it would be minimum 15-25 years (correct me if I'm wrong I learned this from Wikipedia).

But that's not the worst thing about this. Prison would be horrible for a 15-year-old girl but at least she has super strength so she can protect herself but God knows what sorts of shit she would go through in there. No one would treat her better, police already hates her, they would try to make her life as miserable as they can.

But I'm thinking about her life after prison if she survives there and if she doesn't take her own life after being betrayed by her own parent, but it's the outside world that scares me. Everyone would know she is/was Spider-Woman and everyone would know that she killed Peter and the worst part is that everyone already thinks she did that on purpose and that she wanted to do it. If she gets out she'd be a totally different person and no one would care about her. Where would she go? What would she do? She couldn't go to school, she spent most of her life in prison, her canon event is the death of her father and he would be long gone by the time she's out even if he still cared about her. Even if he changed his mind after putting her in prison she's still in there, everyone knows what she did and everyone hates her including Ben and May, and George can't just get her out of there and he's gonna die anyway, so she's on her own. She can't even be Spider-Woman again anywhere, everyone in the world knows who she is and I don't think she would want to be a hero again. Even if she could get a job who the hell would hire her?

So what would happen to her? Would this be her villain origin story? She'd be a thirty something or 40-year-old woman when she gets out and she has nothing.

So, even if it was a bad choice to join Spider Society it was 100% the best choice she had at the moment. Nothing can compare to what was about to happen to her if she stayed in her dimension. She couldn't run forever and she had nowhere to run either. The only way out of that was to go to another universe and live there. Thank heavens that she even had this choice.
