Why NejiTen should be canon

Before I say anything, I can recognise that NejiTen is not canon, although I want it to be lol. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, so I ask that you respect mine, and if you want to challenge it, you can *politely* do that in the comments.

The major countering ships to NejiTen are: NejiHina and LeeTen, so I will talk you through why these ships don't work out.

First with LeeTen (because I don't want you quitting after the drama of NejiHina). Lee and Tenten are seen as very close throughout the series, though Tenten makes it clear that she finds Lee annoying and hot-blooded. This is the opposite to Neji, who Tenten seems to admire a lot, since she liked to train with him, and even put on lipstick in the manga for his chūnin exam finals. They seem like the perfect best friend duo, in my opinion. Romance doesn't need to be involved in every since best friend duo, there are enough of them already. In the Boruto series, Lee is seen with his son, Metal Lee. Many think that Tenten is the mother, due to the eye shape, and I think she could easily be. I mean, she's the only kunoichi in Konoha in the same age group as Lee (I think, I haven't fact checked yet), and the girl in his team. Tenten is probably the easiest choice for Lee's wife that Kishimoto could've made. However, if they were to be married and have had a son together, they would now be divorced. This therefore means, that if they had got married, then the relationship would not have worked out, and LeeTen would've failed. If they had not got together, then Lee would've married a different woman, and even if Lee then divorced that mystery woman, they clearly do not have mutual feelings for each other any more. They might have had feelings for each other, at different stages of their lives, but they either both grew out of their crushes or it was only one-sided to begin with.

Second. The NejiHina incident. I'm sorry, but I will have to go on for even longer than LeeTen, because some people don't understand that this ship is incest, and I'll tell you why. Excluding the fact that Neji had strong resentment towards Hinata for quite a period of time, they still wouldn't work out. Their relationship only evolved into *family* love, as confirmed by Kishimoto, just as Boruto loves Himawari, or Temari loves Gaara. What's wrong with a "big brother-little sister love"? Why must everyone make everything romantic? Neji cares deeply for his cousin, as does Hinata. She calls him 'Big Brother Neji', showing that she only sees him as her older brother. Besides, Hinata was so deeply in love with Naruto, she would've never agreed to the marriage. Moving on, a lot of people, from a range of cultures, some of which invite cousin relationships, think that Neji and Hinata getting married and producing heirs is okay. Some of them (purposely?) forget that the reason you don't have kids with your sibling is because it increases the chance of genetic defects dramatically. Although having kids with your cousin is legal (at least where I am), it still has quite a high risk. These people try and back it up by saying that the Hyūga clan would've wanted a pure Hyūga-blooded heir. Hm... Uchiha clan, anyone? Sure, this was common, but there are plenty Uchihas that are so distantly related that it would be fine to have offspring (such as Itachi and Izumi). The same could be said about the Hyūgas. Maybe Neji would've been their best option for a pure blood husband, but there would've been other choices, more people that were much further distanced in relation. I've got this far, and I haven't even mentioned another key fact: you know that Hiashi and Hizashi are twin brothers, right? Identical twins, to be exact. Lemme show you something: "Identical (i.e., monozygotic, or MZ) twins share 100 percent of their genes". You see that? It means that Hiashi and Hizashi share the same DNA. And this means that Neji and Hinata are genetically closer than cousins. They're actually genetically half-siblings. Hm. The Hyūgas are smart enough to figure out that it probably isn't the best idea to inbreed them, right? Well. That doesn't matter, because even if they overlooked all this incestuous evidence, there's this. Hinata isn't even the current heiress. If Neji survived the war, he would not have married Hinata in Boruto. If the Hyūga clan forced him to marry the heiress, and have children to keep a pure bloodline, he would've married Hanabi. Hanabi is the current heiress, so she would be the one married to Neji. Got it yet? Neji and Hinata would never have happened.

The last reason NejiTen should be canon: their chemistry. Tenten is shown to greatly admire and respect Neji, constantly calling him a genius, and she has blushed because of him in the manga several times. He believed in her abilities enough to sit under the practice dummy she was hitting with kunai. Neji comments that her fight would be interesting, showing that he thinks she is a good fighter. He is also shocked at her defeat, further proving that. In the first databook, Kishimoto confirms that Neji and Tenten trained every day for a month in preparation for Neji's chūnin match against Naruto. During this training, Neji reverse engineered and perfected the moves only reserved for the main branch of the Hyūga clan, mainly the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms and the Eight Trigrams Palms: Revolving Heaven. You should also note that while all the other contestants trained with jōnin, Neji chose to train with Tenten. "During one of their training sessions, birds are shown flying in the sky and Tenten tells him that she is exhausted and can't keep going. Neji responds that he thinks he used too much of his chakra and faints. Tenten is seen running to him and asks him if he's alright." Tenten wore a different outfit to watch Neji's match, and as I said, in the manga she also wore lipstick. After his fight with Kidomaru, Neji remembers seeing Lady Tsunade with Tenten. In the Shippuden, during Team Gai's fight with Kisame, Neji rushes to Tenten's side when she seems to struggle in the Water Prison.

In the image above, it shows the two finishing each other's sentences. They can communicate with little dialogue and know what the other is thinking with only one word. Tenten winks at Neji and invites him to go to the bathhouse with her, both in the anime and the manga. Later, after Neji's death, in the manga, she expresses anger, thinks about Neji and asks why he left her. In her memory, Neji doing the "nice guy pose," which has been performed in the past by Gai, Naruto and Lee. The pose signifies that one will keep their promise until death, as Lee states to Sakura during the beginning of the Sasuke retrieval arc after Naruto does the pose and promises to her that he will get Sasuke back. Neji doing this pose before Tenten implies that he promised her something that he intended to fulfill until his death. In the anime, Tenten holds her hands in a prayer and asks why he left her as she remembers Neji doing this "nice guy pose" to her, then she walks away crying and says that she's never going to forgive him. The implied promise that Neji made to her is not known, but it was significant enough for Neji, who tends to be stoic and serious, to use the cheerful and significant pose his "hot-blooded" sensei and teammate have used in the past. When caught in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Tenten dreams of more mature versions of Lee and Gai as well as Neji being alive and by her side. She's the only person whose Tsukuyomi dream involves not only Neji being alive, but being with him.

They are shown constantly beside one another throughout the entire story, similar to the couples Asuma and Kurenai, and Shikamaru and Temari. While Neji is very formal and strict, he is shown to be comfortable around Tenten. He isn't shown to mind when she teases him or winks at him. He is also rarely portrayed as a character who apologizes to anyone, but he is shown apologizing to Tenten. In both the manga and anime, birds are present during the scenes where Neji and Tenten are shown alone together. In the manga, the only male character Tenten is shown alone with is Neji.

Other Trivia include:

Tenten's name and Neji's themes compliment each other. "Tenten" literally translates to "heaven heaven" in Chinese, while "Hyūga" translates to "place in heaven." In the new Chūnin Exams arc, Neji is shown holding two heaven scrolls with the characters 天天

Tenten's weapons shop in Boruto is named 忍具転転転, which directly translates to "Ninja Tools Turn Turn Turn." Furthermore, the characters "具転転" in the name translate to "revolving." Thus, the name of Tenten's weapons shop can be a reference to one of Neji's primary moves, Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven.

During the blank period, Tenten wears a uniform that includes a dress with a flame pattern similar to the flame in the Hyūga clan's emblem.

Neji and Tenten are depicted as compatible: the Databooks reveal that Neji is a Cancer and Tenten is a Pisces. In Western astrology, Cancer and Pisces are considered a compatible and harmonious pairing. The Databooks list Neji's blood type as O and Tenten's blood type as B. The blood type personality theory popular in Japan considers O and B blood types romantically compatible.

Neji, during his death, is portrayed as a Phoenix on fire. In the anime, Tenten utilizes the moves "Twin Rising Dragons" and "Exploding Dragon Strike." In Chinese folklore, the Phoenix and Dragon pair symbolize perfect harmony and balance between yin (Phoenix) and yang (Dragon).

Among the Konoha 11, Neji and Tenten were the only ones who were 18 years old during the Shinobi war, whereas Naruto and Hinata were 16 years old and the rest were 17.

Neji and Tenten share the same hairstyles as Hashirama Senju and his wife Mito Uzumaki.

nejiten shippers are the most delusional people I've ever seen. All their evidence is fanart, fanfiction, and fillers. They were never a thing. on the naruto couple Wikia they added fillers to make it canon and added the anime scenes with them standing next to each other with Lee cut out. They also sent hate to kishinmoto for not making their ship canon when it never was in the first place. Nejihina makes more sense than nejiten. No one told nejiten shippers to self insert into tenten and ship her with neji cause they think Lee is ugly. Tenten was shown canonly blushing at Lee and worrying about him, but no one ships those 2 why? Cause they think Lee is ugly. they lost a loooong time ago. They also sends at to lee x tenten shippers also. nejiten shippers are toxic and should stop bullying people.

This is quite sad to read, honestly. As I've said before I personally haven't had bad experiences with NejiTen shippers and I respect them and their right to ship that pair, and it's also true that I don't spend much time checking on them; none at all tbh.

I do ship LeeTen though! I think it was very subtle but Tenten's feelings for Lee were a bit deeper than her relationship with Neji in every sense, and I think those could easily turn into romance given the right development, once Lee grew from his funny yet absolutely immature crush with Sakura.

I even remember the fuss when people thought Tenten was Metal's mother, it was a widespread theory, lol.

I absolutely agree with your final statement though not only for NejiTen shippers; I think EVERYONE in this fandom should stop being toxic and bullying others, I mean, it isn't that hard to focus on what you like and ignore what you don't 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Honestly, I've always preferred LeeTen over NejiTen. It doesn't help that I see some strong NaruSaku parallel in it. I mean, you have underdog who trains hard, a naturally talented genius and a girl who idolizes the genius and is a completely wasted talent by Kishimoto. I'm kinda surprised that you prefer NejiTen (don't have any problem with it, like I said, I'm just surprised)

I get that, there's some definite crossover.

Part of it I think comes from the fact that I don't really ship Lee with anyone. My opinions on Lee and his sexuality are varied, can't pin the man down lol.

And I think the big difference between NaruSaku and LeeTen, at least for me, is that there is no hint of romantic tension between Lee and Tenten. There's friendship and clear care, but it's not like NaruSaku where there is obvious feelings there that ain't platonic. From both parties.

Lee and Tenten are great friends but nothing more in my eyes.

Neji and Tenten though ... while you're right there's a link to Sasuke there, in attitude, Neji does something that Sasuke never does.

Changes for the better.

Neji introspects, he realises he was wrong and becomes a better, kinder person. And while we never see anything explicit in canon of how that might turn into a romantic relationship with Tenten, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I dunno dude, I also don't really let canon impact my takes on characters, as you say, the women are underdefined in Naruto, so I took the blueprint and went with it.

So I guess it's more that I ship *MY* versions of Neji and Tenten, more than that of Canon.

And to be fair, while I have a favourite ship dynamic ... it's not the only type of ship I like you know? xD.

Anti-NejiTen GIVE UP !

Top 7 comments that annoy me a lot under each NejiTen post that I found on the net:

#1 - Leeten partisan who spread false rumors

when people said "Tenten blushed toward Lee is because she loves him and it's Canon"... LOL ! Do you want to talk about canon stuff ? She has NEVER blushed at him in the manga that's Canon !

Guys, that is CANON ↓

Neji saved Tenten from the water prison.

and that too : ↓

Kishi has confirmed that Tenten is NOT Metal's mother!!!

So, stop saying that Tenten is Metal Lee's mom. Respect Tenten, why do you want her with a boy who never paid attention to her at all, Lee was in love with Sakura from the beginning to the end like Naruto. HE. NEVER. SHOWED. ANY. LOVE INTEREST. IN. TENTEN ! AND TENTEN NEVER TOO !

#2 - People who said that Neji never showed any love interest in Tenten/ or they both have no chemistry

I think hate makes you blind, because their interactions/development are no different from other ships in the series.

I know love is subjective, some people need to see a kiss or physical contact, or eye contact, or an expressive display of love.

But you know, each person is different and their display of love depends on their personality. When you create a character, you have to adapt their behavior to their personality. It's normal that Naruto shouts everywhere that he's in love with Sakura, that's his personality! It's the same with Sakura and Ino with Sasuke.

But, throughout the series, if we remove the blank day to be equal to Neji and Tenten (because they weren't lucky enough to have a blank day's scene), have you seen Sasuke display a thing of love towards Sakura? Have you seen Temari display a thing of love towards Shikamaru, or even Shikamaru towards Temari? or even Sai towards Ino, in Shippuden?

I want to tell you no, I've never seen any expressive display of love between them all. And if you tell me yes, I pretty much know the reason for your answer:

1. For Sasuke, you will tell me that : "he protected Sakura during the Chunin exam, and wanted to beat the guys who beat her up"

=> Ok, he protected her and I guess protecting someone is considered a love thing.

So, Neji also protected Tenten in the anime and the manga (⬆️ the first image above +⬇️)...

2. Sasuke again: I think back to that war scene, where Sasuke catches up with Sakura and looks at her ... Anyway, physical contact and eye contact.

=> GO REWATCH OR WATCH EPISODE 14 of Shippuden ! AND "CURRY OF LIFE" of Naruto. NejiTen shared all of this !

3. For ShikaTema... Except in the blank day, I don't remember them having an expressive display of love ... maybe when Temari saves Shikamaru? I think the main reason is that they're look cute together. From this, you can talk about a hint of romantic love, that they've been secretly in love with each other since their fight in Chunin exam (and no one will say the opposite because everyone loves them :) )

=> The same goes for NejiTen : they are always shown together, in the same thumbnails, and training together. From this, we, NejiTen fans CAN see a hint of romantic love throughout the story as well.

4. InoSai... I'm sorry, but except in blank day, I really don't remember any display of love between them... they just look cute together...

5. Talking about blank day, even if Neji and Tenten don't have their moment because Neji is dead. Kishi devoted a few lines to them in the novel, in Neji's diary.

"My present goal was to get rid of Tenten's depression"_HYUGA NEJI

#3- NejiTen is only in the imagination of NejiTen fans

If you don't know about fanart, this all takes place in an Alternative Universe. It's like fanfic.

I don't know what's wrong with bringing your favorite characters to life through our imaginations. That's what everyone does with their ship!

#4- Tenten doesn't deserve Neji

(-_-)''' But you know, Neji prefers Tenten to you ;)

When you are insulting Tenten (bc u don't like her or for some stupid reason bc you think she is weak), just remember how much Neji believes in Tenten and tell everyone how much she is strong. (#Episode 162 from Shippuden)

#5- NejiTen fans have no reason to ship them

uh! and do u have a reason to ship your ship ? Do u have a reason to fall in love with someone ? Do u have a reason to have a favorite character?

#6- If Neji was alive, he would have married someone from the Hyuga clan to keep the Byakugan's eyes

... It's called evolution of the story...

The story has shown us the different problems encountered in the world of ninjas : people's mentality towards hosts ; Uchiwa and Hyuga clan ; wars and more. The world of ninja was destined to change and get better.

About Hyuga clan, Neji wanted to change his clan, change his destiny. During his fight with Naruto, Naruto tells him that he can change his destiny. From this episode, the Hyuga clan started to change.

#7- "Neji is dead"

It's not a reason. He's a fictional character, so he's not really dead. He has stayed alive through art, fiction and more.

The death of a character doesn't stop a ship, for example : ObiRin, Yahikonan, TsunadeDan.

Obito was in love with Rin. Since she's dead, he continued to love her.

► It's the same for Yahikonan

► TsunadeDan

Since Dan is dead, Tsunade remained single, just like Tenten.

I think that's how a ship works when the pairing is meant to be, in Naruto series.

SO, "NEJITEN FANS HAVE NO REASON TO SHIP THEM" ?

Stop hypocrisy !

How would your version of Naruto ending and Boruto play out (don’t be shy, make it VERY LONG, out touch the smallest details):

1. neji would live because hiashi sacrificed himself in place of his children. i dont really have anything further planned for him in my head but rest assured that he is alive.

2. konoha involves itself in inter-clan business and makes it a criminal offense for hyuuga main branch members to torture the side branch members. no new seals are placed.

3. boruto is not named boruto because what a weird fucking name, no thanks!

4. the truth about both the uchiha massacre and the destruction of uzushiogakure and konoha’s roles in them are revealed to the public.

5. the villagers and ordinary shinobi play a more active role in the running of the village and it moves away from bureaucracy and to tobirama’s original vision of a democracy. the hokage is actually elected, rather than proposed by officials to the daimyo and that’s that.

6. academy starts at age 8 or 10 and finishes at a soft 16 - if a student is particularly gifted, the lowest age they can graduate at is 14.

7. we actually get a scene between naruto and karin where they acknowledge and talk about their shared roots.

8. no sasusaku i’m sorry i just really hate it. sorry sarada. i think sasuke should be allowed to stay single.

9. more children!!! more babies!!!!!!! naruto and hinata have about 4, ino and sai have 2, karui and choji have 3. stop the population from dwindling

10. i actually like the fact that hinata and choji are like retired from the shinobi industry, i dont think they actually ever really wanted to be parts of it. but hinata plays an active role in the improvement of hyuuga intra-clan rapports, even if she’s not clan head.

11. i’d have killed off iruka and kiba but that’s just me. not because i hate them (i love iruka to the moon and back) but i think their deaths would’ve been realistic and meaningful (and also hurt a lot - can you imagine naruto’s reaction to iruka’s death, or kiba dying and leaving akamaru? pain)

12. naruto doesn’t become hokage. he’s a jounin-sensei :D

13. the older generation pairs off as well!! my heart goes soft for gai and anko, i think maybe they have a kid together

14. none of the electronic advancement you see in boruto. i want my bitches to continue suffering

15. orochimaru is either in prison or executed. in either case anko, yamato, and the other people they hurt get justice.

16. choza dies alongside shikaku and inoichi (again, not because i don’t like him), even if he isn’t at hq

17. no fucking rabbit goddess jesus fuck that storyline just about took me out lmao

The LeeTen fandom created a lot of awesome fan kids and I always really wanted to draw some of them. So finally, here they are, my favorite LT daughters! Daiya Lee (in pink) by @flowersnbeasts and Seiko Lee (in blue) by @seishunpowa / Vequara on DA.

I wanted to give them some casual pretty clothes... I hope their creators will like my choices! ((´∀`;))

What do you think of Leeten? I’m perfectly fine others shipping it but it’s kinda annoying that the fandom sometimes portray Tenten as Metal Lee’s mom. We can all have our AUs but you know?

Another thing I’ve noticed in Leeten and NejiHina fandom is that Tenten is often portrayed as jealous or spiteful with Lee’s relationship with Sakura. Tenten is a side character but it was never confirmed she canonically felt that way. Whereas the bond between Lee and Sakura is. I can’t deny Lee has a bond with Tenten too but sometimes shipping fandoms make the characters OOC.

NGL NejiTen fandom did the same, but I feel like they had more of a chemistry.

Ooh, I was not aware that this is how things are in the LeeTen family.

Well, I’m indifferent towards it, truth be told. At some point I used to kinda like them and didn’t consider NejiTen that much, because LeeTen reminded me of the dynamics of NaruSaku, but upon further inspection, I realized I was in the wrong.

Tenten clearly cares about Lee, but her inner, true self desperately wants Lee to be a more serious type like Neji is.

Whereas Sakura secretly enjoyed Naruto’s prankster side, so then I realized that while the dynamics are similar on the surface, if we go a little bit more in depth, things are different.

That’s how I ended-up switching more towards NejiTen.

However, as for the fandoms, sadly the fandoms nowadays are toxic gatherings. Not saying all of them are, but that’s the trend.

People fight each other and force their views onto each other and mischaracterize characters so it fits their agenda and whatnot.

That’s why I personally ended up enjoying things in my own corner, with few like minded people.

And trust me, it’s SO MUCH BETTER!

People in large numbers ruin things... I mean, look at the story of Naruto...

Everybody knows LeeHina gotta special place in my heart. It was my first canon-character ship I ever did (ever), and it was totally out of the blue. So I love LeeHina.

ShinoHina’s very important to me. I have grown to love SasuHina through interactions and watching others RP it :)

InoHina and TemaHina are really Good.

Li ~

Can I say LeeHina again? I love LeeSaku too. @folkstold has got LeeTen growing on me :)

@swarm-host whispered ShinoLee in my ear and now I’m sold on that one too. and LeeNaru.

Chouji ~

Still trying to figure this one out. I think he’d be really cute w/ Sakura and Tenten. And I know it could never work in the canon world, but ChoIno or ShikaCho is good.

Gar said GaaChou and now I’m invested. ChouHina is really soft.

Suigetsu ~

I will die on my canon x oc SuiMayu ship w/ @tsuyokuma. PSA I AM ALWAYS INTERESTED IN CANON X OC W/ ANY MUSE.

But canonxcanon ships?? SuiKarin. SuiSasu. Really into SuiSaku and SuiNaru.

Anko ~

I don’t know. At all. I am very unbiased with Anko ships. I’m pretty sure THE Anko ship is KakaAnko, and I am interested in exploring it :) Anko n Kurenai pique my interest.

Matsuko ~

I don’t know. I didn’t have any “hmm I think she would pair well with so and so” in mind when I was making her. She just wants to protect women from gross men!!

Send me a ship and I give my opinion of it!

Gaahina: I know there's some people shipping this and there could've been possibilities with this but I never saw the appeal of it. They had no interaction in canon and I never gave it much thought tbh. Though, I'd be open to try it in rp. Just canon wise, it never struck my fancy.

Sasusaku: Oh boy! This is a ship that could've had a chance (I even liked it in part one) but over time I realized that it didn't work. I understand Sakura's feelings in part one (except where she's willing to go with him and leave everyone behind) because it seemed like a crush but with time, I realized it's only Sakura that felt any attraction towards him. It also feels like it's implied that she suffers because of (loving) him and by the end of the war, she has this angry face as if she wants to break free from the feelings that are holding her only to confess again. (Although, it's said she wants team 7 together again, not him). But Sasuke's answer was clear as day. He doesn't love her or thinks he can be loved so it's more of a surprise on why and how they got together. Also, I hate the notion that Sasuke is a bad father and that he is absent from his family. Part one could've made sense but from Shippuden onwards, it just didn't work and how they got together is just unbelievable to me.

ShikaIno: I found their interactions cute and while I shipped Shikatema more for some reason, I feel this ship could've had a chance, especially because they can connect on the various losses they had (Asuma, their fathers). I don't remember much of their interactions but they really seem to care for one another. It's just not something I actively ship but can see.

NejiTen: This ship is so popular although I can't really find any romantic instances between the two and while I think they do care for one another, I have this strange attraction to LeeTen (due to one instance of Tenten smiling with a small blush at a training Lee). So I don't really ship it but I'm also not against it.
