Ao3 tagging rant

At this point people are using Ao3 tagging system like it's fucking tumblr tags. It's getting real fucking hard to actually just find fic and at this point I think I'm just going to skip fics that don't properly tag things.

They were in love, Even if they hated each other, Everyone around them knew it, And they were stubborn till the very end,

That bullshit doesn't tell me anything. It tells me you don't know how to tag properly and that you have no idea that people are looking for fics like yours but can't fucking find it.

Enemies to Lovers, Slow Burn, Mutual Pining, + (Other coherent tags)

This tells me exactly what I'm looking for. It gives me coherent tags to search for. Put the first tags in the synopsis section of the fic, not the tags. Also, just because you make a tag, doesn't mean it's searchable.

On Ao3 there are things called tag wranglers and it's a hard fucking job because they are constantly having to wrangle commonly used tags in order to instate them as searchable tags.

The more you put this nonsense in the tags, the more BS they have to wade through.

This is long and ramble and I'm still sick idk how coherent it is.

I keep seeing fandom wank revolving around people comparing Jonathan and Billy and

Like. Obv I disagree with the people that are arguing that Billy is bad bc Jonathan also has a shitty dad and he doesn't abuse Will.

But I also Very Strongly disagree with the arguments I've seen against the above argument that basically boil down to it's not comparable bc Joyce kicked Lonnie out.

This is because of a variety of reasons, including but not limited to

- I think comparisons between Jonathan and Billy are great, and can be a valuable part of character/media analysis.

- Though Lonnie is out of the picture and that is a key difference between Jonathan and Billy, Jonathan is still (as of s4) actively being abused (and in a way very much comparable to Billy's abuse).

One of the key differences between Jonathan and Billy as abuse victims (imo) isn't a difference between Neil and Lonnie. It's not even a difference between Billy's mom and Joyce, or Joyce and Neil.

The difference isn't that Jonathan has people/friends and Billy doesn't (it is repeatedly established that Jonathan doesn't have friends).

A very key difference between Jonathan and Billy as abuse victims, that imo is often not given the weight in these discussions that I think it deserves,

Is a difference between Will and Max.

Will and Max are objects in Jonathan and Billy's abuse.

If Neil could have made Billy love Max to the point that he'd be willing to give up his future to continue taking care of her, I think he would have.

If Joyce had brought another kid in to the house, and accepted that kid as her own, I don't think she would have ever considered Jonathan's feelings on the subject or even consulted him at all before just expecting him to start co-parenting that kid the way she expects with Will (in fact, it kind of seems like that's what happened with El).

It isn't easy to love someone who was used as a tool in your abuse. It's not easy to let go of the resentment for the wrongs you have suffered because of them, even if you know that they are not at fault.

Jonathan and Will had some sort of relationship before/beyond the one forced on to them by Jonathan's abuse.

Billy and Max do not.

Both Billy and Jonathan lash out at people as a result of their situations. Jonathan just doesn't lash out at Will in that way. Billy isn't a worse person for not having as deep of a connection to max as Jonathan has with will.

Jonathan isn't better than Billy just because he's accepted the abuse that Billy died angry about.

y'know, one thing i don’t see get talked about much in regards to asexuality is how it feels to never be ‘sexually motivated’ by anything

and not just when it comes to advertisements using ‘sexy’ models to try and sell you stuff, but like. in general

sex as a favor, sex as a bribe, sex in exchange for whatever

casual sex, ‘friends with benefits’ situations, even simple flirting

it all looks a whole lot different from the perspective of someone who’s immune to manipulation via sex appeal, who has virtually no understanding as to why sex would motivate someone to cheat on their partner, etc. etc.

sex is worthless to me

i mean, it’s useful as a story element in fiction, but it genuinely perplexes me that sex is such a driving force behind so many aspects of irl society & of people’s individual lives, for better or for worse

and that it’s so deeply ingrained into how the average person views the world & various situations, because the average person feels sexual attraction, whereas i do not

i think the barrier between aces & allos is actually even deeper than it seems on the surface at times, because it’s more than just the grating expectation that everyone must want to ‘settle down’ and have kids, it’s also the fact that the majority of the world is sort of ‘in’ on a joke that aces will never truly be a part of

#felt #literally in the core of my very being #like a big part of me DOES want a very traditional family #bunch of kids and a big strong man in the house #but there are SO many contributing factors that make me want that #growing up in a bad family environment #daddy issues #just wanting someone to deal with my issues while i sit there and look pretty #im really kind of afraid that that's not a personal desire of mine #that i was socially conditioned into wanting that #because despite all advances in feminism and whatnot #straight (bi) girls must still want to find The One right? #and i do #but i dont know if thats something i want naturally or like theoretically #sex and everything to do with sexuality in that way are literally just a pass-time #i cannot imagine basing decisions off your sexual urges #its so illogical
