Summing up the 2022 elections can be done using the following phrase: “to see if you were the right kind of terrible.”   This is a line from the all-time great series Game of Thrones, when Tyrion Lannister wanted to see if Daenerys Targaryen was the kind of ruler who would prevent her people from being worse off. This is a phrase that has never been more fitting than now.  [ ... ]   Bongbong Marcos is the wrong kind of terrible because, given his track record, he likely would enable Filipinos to be in worse conditions.
John Leo C. Algo at Rappler on the election of Bongbong Marcos, son of the kleptocratic dictator Ferdinand Marcos, as president of the Philippines.
When Daenerys Targaryen effectively saw victory, she went ahead and torched much of King’s Landing anyway. People in the Philippines may be waiting to see if Bongbong will torch what’s left of democracy and independence in the country.

This is probably from around the time that S04E10 was being shot.

HBO has been looking into possible GoT spinoffs and prequels. In addition to House of the Dragon, there’s Dunk & Egg, Robert’s Rebellion, and an unspecified animation series.
But the spinoff which they really need to do is Pod at the Brothel.

In A Storm of Swords, Arya and the Hound only get two chapters together after the Red Wedding, one where he takes her to the Eyrie and and then a seemingly fatal fight at an inn, where Arya ends up leaving him to head for Braavos. In the show, we got a whole season of Arya and Sandor Clegane traveling Westeros. The mentorship that was hinted at in the book is so much more fleshed out. Of course, it helps that Maisie Williams and Rory McCann had fantastic chemistry and that the writing was top notch. Aside from all the extra scenes Arya and the Hound got to share, the fact that the show decided to focus on their travels for an entire season also gave them have a much clearer arc together.

10 ways Game of Thrones improved on A Song of Ice and Fire
Some people don’t like to admit it, but there are a number of ways in which the HBO series augments ASoIaF.
The Arya/Hound interactions were particularly exceptional.

The Master of Ships is still just one of the guys.
Well, except perhaps his grammar has gotten slightly more high-born since his stint with Stannis.

The Baratheon-Targaryen connection.
It’s not exactly a secret that the Baratheons are related to the Targaryens, but it’s something which is occasionally overlooked.
Robert, Stannis, and Renly Baratheon were sons of Steffon Baratheon. Steffon’s mother was Rhaelle Targaryen. Rhaelle was the daughter of King Aegon V and therefore the niece of Maester Aemon.
This chart shows the lineage.
Tumblr media
It’s a bit simplified. Cersei’s kids, for example, didn’t really have Robert Baratheon as a father.
One thing we see is that Shireen Baratheon would have had Rhaelle Targaryen as a great-grandmother. Unfortunately, Shireen didn’t inherit the Targaryen ability to withstand flames like Daenerys.
That brings us to Gendry and Jon Snow.
Tumblr media
They both have Aegon V Targaryen and Betha Blackwood as great-great-grandparents. That makes them third cousins. Though Jon has two generations of Targaryen incest in between his parents and great-great-grandparents. So he was “blood of the dragon” to a greater degree than Cousin Gendry.
In House of the Dragon, with its numerous Targaryens, there will likely be family relationships of similar complexity to untangle.

Sophie Turner made this post, no longer available, at her Instagram account.
Tumblr media
In the linked article, Emily Tannenbaum writes:
Sophie Turner literally said “Bi Pride!”
On June 2, the Game of Thrones star posted to her Instagram Stories in celebration of Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ community. “It’s mothafuckin #pride month babaaaayyyyyy,” the post reads. It also featured multiple Pride stickers including  “Bi Pride,” “Gay Pride,” “Move, I’m gay,” and my personal favorite, “Time isn’t straight and neither am I.”
Many fans were excited to see what they believe to be Turner’s coming-out moment. “Did sophie turner just come out via unhinged Instagram story,” one user asked. “Queen.”
The Queen in the North will likely have more to say herself.
So let’s wish Sophie: Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

Peter Dinklage is the narrator of a new Netflix series. It’s called “How to Become a Tyrant“ and it focuses on bad people in history who have achieved absolute power. There were certainly a few people like that in GoT.
While no two tyrants are exactly the same, they do follow rather similar patterns in their rise to power and in the way they hold on to power.
The series is six episodes in length which have these titles:
Seize Power
Crush Your Rivals
Reign Through Terror
Control the Truth
Create a New Society
Rule Forever
Jonas Bell Pasht, one of the executive producers, explained to Scott Fishman at TV Insider how Peter Dinklage got on board with the series.
We started really working on this series around the time the final season of Game of Thrones was going on. We knew we needed a signature star voice at the center of the show. Not only does [Dinklage] have this great, world-class gravitas to his voice, [but] he was the character who whispered the secrets of power to other people in that series. Who better than Tyrion Lannister to tell you all the tips and tricks of how you can rule the world? We met with him and his company, Estuary Films, [told] them our vision, and [got] them at the right time. They got really excited about it.
Game of Thrones was about a struggle for power. It included a number of excellent political lessons – particularly through the voices of Tyrion, Varys, Littlefinger, Tywin, and Cersei.
Somebody needs to write a book about the politics of Game of Thrones and get Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, or Charles Dance to do the audio version of it.

The Daenerys connection to coffee has been well known since S08E04. But as the Mother of Dragons, pizza making may be her strong point when it comes to food and drink preparation.
If Drogon gets her to a red priest/priestess in Volantis where she can be resurrected, perhaps she may opt for a less stressful second career and open a place in Meereen called Dany’s Dragon-Baked Pizza.
