Today’s Flickr photo with the most hits - the William Irvin. She’s a lake steamer, moored in Duluth as a museum ship. She was a bulk freighter on the Great Lakes as part US Steel’s lake fleet. She was flagship of the company fleet from her launch in the depths of the Great Depression in 1938 until 1975 and then was a general workhorse of the fleet until her retirement in 1978.

your head rested comfortably on luke's shoulder as your eyes remained focused on the sunset.

this was why you loved camp.

the quiet evenings to yourself after the younger campers went to sleep.

nights of hushed laughs coming from the cabins that you and luke filled with campfire chats and sunset walks.

sunset walks that ended in the two of you sat on the end of the pier overlooking the water as you were currently doing.

as gorgeous as the sunset was, you could feel your eyelashes dusting against your cheeks for longer intervals every time.

the coziness of the blanket over your shoulders, the feeling of lukes arm looped around your back and his hand on the junction between your thigh and your waist.

it was all too relaxing for you to keep yourself awake much longer.

luke must've noticed your body leaning on him a bit more for support because his arm tightened around your body before he spoke up.

" y'ready for bed, baby ?" he questioned quietly.

you forced your eyes open to look up into his gorgeous eyes and a tired and dazed smile settled on your lips as you nodded.

" let's get you to bed then " his shifting movement underneath you caused you to wake up a little bit more so you didnt hit your head on the wooden panels of the pier.

you watched as luke stood and offered his hand out to pull you up, which you gladly took.

the two of you meandered back towards your cabin, the blanket still draped over your shoulders as luke lead you in the right direction.

when you got back to your cabin, you practically collapsed against the bed, wanting nothing more than to just sleep.

but when you felt luke's hands turning you over you knew you weren't going to be granted that.

his hands pulled you into a sitting position, to which you groaned and tried to fall back against the blanket.

" let me sleep" you whined, causing a soft laugh to spill from luke's lips.

" you'll hate me in the morning if i let you sleep after you swam in the lake. " he countered.

" i'll love you right now if you let me sleep. "

" how much will you love me if i shower with you ? "

that suggestion had you perking up slightly.

" a lot " was your simple reply as you let luke pull you to your feet.

no words were exchanged as luke led you towards the bathroom and flicked on the shower, immediately starting to pull your shirt over your head and start a pile of clothes in the corner of the room.

as the pile grew bigger and the room grew steamer, you found your previously tired state returning quite quickly.

but once you were pulled under the water a soft smile settled onto your lips at the feeling of it against your hair, mixed with the sight of lukes typically full mess of hair flattening against his head under the stream.

you lifted your hand to push the damp, straightened curls away from his face which caused a laugh to bubble up from luke's chest.

his arms wrapped around your waist, his lips pressing onto your forehead before he reached for your shampoo and began decanting some onto both of your hands.

the only thing better than seeing luke's hair flat from the water, was seeing it full of suds in a stiff shape.

once the both of you felt thoroughly clean, and the water began going cold, towels were wrapped around the two of you and comfortable clothes put on once you were dry.

you were relieved when you were finally able to flop down on your bed again, and the next touch from your boyfriend was him simply manoeuvring you to release the blanket from under you.

said blanket was draped over your body and at the same time you felt a warmth pressed up against your side.

you turned over to press your head into the warmth as his arms wrapped around your body.

his voice rumbled through his chest and vibrated against you.

" how much do you love me now ?"

" so much "

the siblings

Jack and Octavia have always been the most competitive with each other, definitely keeping score of every win and lost against each other in anything, from tennis matches to how long they can stay on the wake board.

Octavia saw the interview of Jack asking how to cook broccoli and has never let him forget it. She FaceTime Jack telling him how to cook Broccoli totally teasing him for it and for his next birthday sent him a broccoli steamer and a how to cook vegetables book for young kids.

Jack and Quinn quickly learned from a young age that Octavia and Luke never wanted to be on different teams, they would both shake their heads and scrunch their noses only wanting to be on the same team.

Octavia obviously watched a lot of Jack playing hockey growing up and she never noticed she picked up a lot of Jack’s play style, no one really noticed it till one of games in the NHL and she did a play looking exactly like Jack.

Quinn sometimes needs peace and quiet when at the lake house with everyone over so most of the time he goes up to Octavia’s art room and will bring a book and lay on her couch enjoying the piece and quiet as Octavia paints.

Quinn and Octavia definitely make the most sarcastic quips and have made many inside jokes over the years, Jack is definitely just sassy to everyone and Luke is sometimes sassy but Quinn and Octavia just make little comments that are hilarious.

When Octavia was young she would always clap and smile at the moon always saying, “Moon! Moon! Moon!” So Quinn and Jack quickly gave her the nickname little moon, which still stuck but it’s more moony now.

The four have always been protective of each other and always worrying about each other getting hurt on the ice, so they started doing three taps to the ice, or their leg or the rink wall if they are okay after a bad hit or a fight.

Luke was the sibling who was the most persistent on weekly Facetimes with all of them. Luke knew Octavia would agree if he asked her and he could use the puppy eyes to his older brothers. So whenever the four weren’t all together they have always FaceTimed at least once a week.

Jack is the one who is taking photos wanting a lot of photos of his siblings and the memories so Quinn and Octavia make Jack bribe them with something sometimes, like paying for breakfast or dinner if he wants a photo.

Quinn, Luke and Octavia never lets Jack forget he’s the one who went to school the least so he technically the least smart out of the three of them, Jack is always annoyed when he’s reminded.

Quinn, Jack and Luke all call Octavia’s dog Louie their nephew and Octavia is never suprised when a package comes for stuff for Louie. Especially since Toronto is very cold Louie wears a lot of clothes in the winter, the three always send so much. The three also all got him little hockey jerseys for their teams.

So this is a random thing, but I was sitting there contemplating the sand steamer episode of Trigun Stampede, thinking about how it acts like a ship, and why exactly did they model it in the shape of a ship, why not give it wheels, etc etc.

And it's very probably not this, just because Legato was still able to drive across the stretches and plus Livio fully fell onto the sand and he didn't sink - BUT I feel like it would be SUPER cool

If the stretches of area the sand steamer travels is fluidized sand:

Maybe NoMan's land has pockets of spaces, oceans??? Where there are gas pockets, a constant stream of air flowing underneath. And tbh I know in the 98 anime there's quick sand - which is sand with water around it, and occurs more often around bodies of water like lakes and rivers etc., In deserts it's possible but not common - which could explain why the sand steamer moves like that, but that explanation doesn't make sense to me, just because if there was an entire ocean of quick sand for the sand steamer to travel across - then why would they need water Plants at all??

Anyways, just a minor thought that I wanted to share.

It grounded on Au Sable Reef, Lake Superior, and went down on July 4, 1883. She lost her way in one of the heavy fogs that frequent the area.

Today in Great Lakes shipping history. June 9th.

1900: TASHMOO (steel side-wheel excursion steamer, 308 foot, 1,344 gross tons, built in 1900, at Wyandotte, Michigan) hosted Admiral George Dewey on her inaugural trip from Cleveland, Ohio, to Detroit, Michigan, on 09 June 1900. Admiral Dewey had just returned from his conquest of the Philippines during the Spanish American War and was a national hero. TASHMOO entered regular service for the White Star Line two days later.

1909: ASSINIBOIA and CRESCENT CITY were washed through the Canadian Lock at Sault Ste. Marie when the upbound PERRY G. WALKER struck the lower gate. All three ships were damaged but were repaired and returned to service.

1938: The GOVERNOR MILLER (Hull#810) a sister ship to the WILLIAM A. IRVIN, began her maiden voyage, leaving Lorain, Ohio. The GOVERNOR MILLER was only the second Great Lakes vessel to be powered by a steam turbine with a direct drive to the propeller shaft via reduction gear.

1963: The newly built SILVER ISLE of Mohawk Navigation and the PRINS ALEXANDER of the Oranje Line, collided in fog and rain on the St. Lawrence near Kingston. Both ships required repairs.

1979: The French freighter MELUSINE first came to the Great Lakes in 1962 and returned as b) LENA in 1978. It sank the French fishing vessel ANTIOCHE III in the English Channel with the loss of 4 lives on this day in 1979. LENA was scrapped at Ferrol, Spain, in 1982, after suffering engine damage on a voyage from Bilbao, Spain, to Detroit.

2023: The sun rises over Lake Superior as Mesabi Miner arrives to load ore.
