HAVING A SECRET ADMIRER
Tumblr media
when the snw crew has a secret admirer, and how they handle it
CW: gn!reader
CREW: chris pike, una chin-riley, spock, la'an, erica ortegas, nyota uhura, christine chapel
Tumblr media
CHRIS - first and foremost, chris would be absolutely flattered. he thinks the little gifts or poems left behind for him are really adorable and they always brighten up his day. he wouldn’t try to go out of his way to find out who his secret admirer is - he likes the mystery, as well as wanting to spare his admirer any embarrassment of being discovered. chris would also not really try to hide it. he’ll put the flowers in a vase on his desk, or share the delicious chocolate with friends who come to dinner. when others lightly tease him about it, chris would be a very good sport. or if someone like erica wants to help him find the identity of his admirer (because she’s so nosy), chris would forbid it. though, as all things do on a starship, you’re eventually caught and the mystery is over. still, chris would try his absolute hardest to try and prevent you from being humiliated in some way. he’ll thank you for all of the little gifts, ensure that he won’t say a thing to the crew, and finally asks if you’d want to have dinner with him - just the two of you. he’s still got some more of those chocolates you left for him, and chris is eager to share.
UNA - she knows you’re her admirer almost immediately, but continues to play dumb to prevent you from feeling embarrassed or foolish. she’ll let the rumors circulate, finding it amusing what the rest of the crew thinks of her secret admirer. una will resist any plans of trying to sniff out the mystery person, as she enjoys the days some new gift arrives for her and the rest of the senior staff are super eager as if it’s another clue to the mystery. in the meantime, una does treat you just a little differently. not enough to be too noticeable, but the knowledge of you being her admirer softens her. there are times when una thinks about just coming clean and telling you she knows everything. when the cat is eventually out of the bag, una keeps it all lowkey. she tries not to make a big deal out of it, making small jokes or smart comments to ease your embarrassment. but when she gets more serious - so warm in how she thanks you for the gifts, it makes you wonder why you ever tried to keep it a secret. then una suggests you two take some time together the next time the enterprise is in port somewhere, and she doesn’t miss when you ask the captain the next day when he thinks they’ll come across a starbase.
SPOCK - doesn’t really understand the concept of a secret admirer at first. he has a loose understanding, but only through the wire of human culture and spock doesn’t even really pay much attention to that. at first, he may just ignore it, thinking it’s simply a passing infatuation and will fade, as human emotions are prone to do. but the gifts left for him don’t cease, and it isn’t until a rather passionate poem comes along does spock finally decide to do some investigating. he’s a scientist, he doesn’t like a mystery to be unsolved if he can help it - plus, he stresses with nurse chapel, his secret admirer must be slacking in their duties on the ship. it really doesn’t take spock very long to discover the culprit, and once he’s face-to-face with you…well, he doesn’t know what to say. he’s never had a secret admirer before. you start apologizing, hoping you hadn’t embarrassed spock because you knew how private and introverted he is and you didn’t wanna scare him off with any grand gestures and- he cuts you off there. tells you that vulcans are incapable of embarrassment and it was actually very thoughtful that you wanted to spare his (nonexistent) feelings. plus, the poem was a very beautiful one, where did you learn it from? do you know of others that are similar? it kinda evolves into you spending time with spock via showing him your favorite poet and made you thankful you went the route of a secret admirer - it seems to suite spock a lot better.
LA’AN - she’s usually pretty good at letting her icy exterior discourage any hijinks, and this includes secret admirers. most of the crew wouldn’t even think about doing something so brazen and wholesome to la’an - to be honest, she intimidates a lot of her crewmates. so when news starts spreading of somebody secretly crushing on the security chief, la’an had no idea how to respond. for a time, she thought it was simply just a sick joke. maybe some of the junior officers were making her the butt of a prank, which la’an has absolutely 0 tolerance for. the captain and a few others tried to explain that it was harmless, and la’an eventually came to terms with it. no prank can so worth it as to intently learn all of her favorite desserts, color, flower… okay, once la’an was sure there was no funny business happening, she absolutely wanted to find her secret admirer. why? she didn’t have a solid answer - it changed from person to person. it took no time at all to find your identity, and once she came to confront you… she was barely able to speak. it was a little humiliating for la’an - she just had no experience with this sort of thing and it blindsided her like nothing else. she let you ramble on, eyes averting whenever you talked about your feelings. but when you started apologizing, that’s when she cut back in with her usual blunt words, insisting you did nothing worth apologizing for. in fact, she really liked those flowers, and she wants to know how you got a hold of them - you know, for future reference.
ERICA - honestly, erica would probably get a little cocky about having a secret admirer. it’s one thing to have someone crushing on you like school kids, but it’s different when erica keeps finding gifts and letters left for her, only her, and she can flaunt them around. of course, she’d be super curious about her admirer. i imagine she might bring it up to those she works closely with, hoping they saw or heard something that might lend a clue. once the newness wears off, erica’s curiosity would get the better of her, and she would actively try to investigate. though, she isn’t exactly subtle - discovering the identity of her admirer came as a complete accident. quite literally catching you in the act, and when you try to deflect, erica knows she’s caught her admirer. though, her victory is cut short when she sees just how embarrassed she’s made you - it didn’t really occur to erica that you wanted to be secret for a reason. so she softens up, thanks you for all the little gifts you left her, and she genuinely wants to discuss it. erica isn’t opposed to taking things further, but only on one condition - you gotta keep supplying the sweets you’ve been leaving for her. they’re really good, and they taste better when they’re gifted.
NYOTA - is immediately very shy about the whole thing, even when others are excited and curious and lowkey pushing nyota for as many details as she can give. and she does tell the stories of each time she discovered a new trinket or treat or letter, much to the pleasure of her nosy friends. but there’s something she keeps hidden from them, knowledge that nyota wants to keep to herself - she recognizes the words on the letters. she’s got an ear for language, as well as an eye for words. at first, she definitely tried to ignore what her gut was telling her. trying to spare you and herself the embarrassment, even though the knowledge was kept to herself. but it was the knowledge that slowly warmed her up to the idea of perhaps returning your affections - it’s quite hard to read such passionate words and not begin to feel something for the person you know is writing them. though, nyota isn’t quite as skilled in being subtle, and it’s easy to tell when she started acting different. that’s when your letters ceased, nyota got anxious, and she just had to say something. assure you that she wasn’t upset or uncomfortable - just the opposite, in fact. she very much enjoyed everything you’ve given her, and she knows they’ll stop now that she confronted you, but she wanted to clear the air. and of course, you care about her, so you ask her if she wanted you to keep writing letters. just because she seemed to enjoy them so much. nyota didn’t even realize she had nodded her head until you smiled and walked away.
CHRISTINE - equal parts flattered and shy. flings are one thing - no strings attached, no warm sentiments, and absolutely no rumors. christine was actually the last to know about her first gift, which was foolishly left by her corner of sick bay and discovered by everyone else. she was immediately bombarded with questions and theories and christine wasn’t even able to fully enjoy and inspect the gift until she brought it to her quarters. for a time, she attempted to ignore it. but small gifts grew into more personal objects that only someone who knew her would know. and those eventually evolved into letters and poems and christine was a little fed up at this point - not that these gestures weren’t unwanted. they always put her in a little better of a mood. but christine doesn’t like being purposefully excluded, and she’s definitely not used to more intimate gestures of affection. it was only a matter of time before the identity of her admirer was revealed - the ship wasn’t big enough to keep such a secret. she’s the one who confronted you, and admittedly, came off kinda strong at first. you apologized, promised it would stop, and that’s not what she wanted. instead of sneaking around, how about grabbing lunch, she offered. or maybe dinner, since your shifts don’t exactly line up. and when you agreed, christine couldn’t tell if she was relieved or even more on edge.

Like don't get me wrong. I'm a Spock girl y'all. I love that man. But if i had to choose between Spock and La'an, you better believe that Vulcan boy would get dropped so hard, he'd fuse with the mantle of a planet.
(That being said, that doesn't mean I don't like the two of them together... or that i would drop Spock if i could just keep both of them.... what can I say, I'm a greedy bisexual girl)

You hadn't expected to be called back to the Enterprise when you had, but Number One was in danger and your crew had been called into service to rescue her, and you were glad of it.
It was strange being back, there's been a bit of a pool as to whether the Captain would even return, but you were glad he had.
Walking through the hall to the turbo lift, you couldn't help but smile, practically going into autopilot. You were glad to be home.
"Bridge," you said, gripping the handle and waiting to reach your destination. Everything was as you'd left it.
Almost everything, that was.
The lift doors swung open and you stepped out, finding yourself face to face with the one person you hadn't expected to be aboard the Enterprise.
Your ex, La'an.
She blinked when she saw you, and you did same, both clearly not expecting this run in.
"Ah, Lieutenant, glad you could join us," Captain Pike said, wandering over to greet you, oblivious to the tension between you and La'an.
"This is Lieutenant Noonien Singh, she'll be joining us as acting Number One until we get Una back," he explained, "La'an this is-"
"Lieutenant Y/N Y/L/N," La'an finished for him, overcoming her shock.
"Sorry did you just introduce yourselves?" He asked.
"No sir, we actually already know each other," La'an told him, not looking away from your face.
"We came up through the academy together," you added, breaking eye contact. You could have sworn you saw La'an wince when you did, but any reaction was replaced with her mask you knew all too well.
"Excellent," Pike said, clapping your shoulder and glancing between the two of you as if just registering something was amiss, "then you should have no problem working together, right?"
"No sir, no problem," La'an informed him with a nod, voice strained. Pike glanced back at you and you offered a nod as well.
"Not at all," you agreed.
"Good," he said slowly, "I'll just, be over there then." He made his exit quickly and you couldn't blame him.
"I didn't realise you were assigned here," La'an said, offering you something in the way of small talk.
"You didn't know I was assigned here?" You laughed, light-heartedly, not maliciously, "La'an I've been on the Enterprise for a couple of years now."
"Oh," she paused, "then I guess I'm the surprise, sorry, I would have reached out so this wasn't so..."
"Awkward?" You filled in for her, smiling.
"Exactly," she said, shuffling on her feet.
Sam La'an. She'd never been great with people, and you knew why, well, from the little she'd told you. She said other people were complicated, and you got that, but there was only so long you could wait for her to open up to you, to love you, and as much as it had hurt, you'd had to leave.
Still, seeing her again, you realised your feelings were far from gone.
"We should get to our stations," she decided, something unreadable passing on her face as she looked at you again, as she added, "but... we should catch up, when we can that is."
"I'd like that," you told her, noticing some tension ease from her shoulders, happy with your response.
"Good," she gave you one last look before returning to her post and you headed to yours, wondering where this would lead next...

Hi! I saw that your requests were open, so I was wondering when if you can do where the team meets Fem! Y/n who is mute and is La’an’s twin sister?
Two Parts of a Whole

I hope it's satisfactory because this is the first time I wrote something like that. To be honest, I'm not entirely satisfied with it, but it won't get better. And I'm sorry that it took so long
Tumblr media
The promenade of the space station she was currently on was packed and she was grateful that she had been able to get an empty spot on one of the pillars near the airlock. Not only several freighters had arrived almost simultaneously, but also two Vulcan research ships and an Andorian battle cruiser of the Imperial Guard. She had only noticed them in passing, however, as her focus was on the huge Federation starship. The USS Enterprise, NCC - 1701, Constitution Class and the flagship of the fleet. She, however, only cared about, one person on this huge ship.
Searchingly, she bobbed up and down, heel to toe and back again, hands clasped behind her back. Apparently she seemed to be so conspicuous that people were worried, because she was approached by an Andorian woman, quite brusquely, asking if she needed help, but she had quickly waved her aside. She was doing fine, even better than that, after all, she would be able to see her sister for the first time in months.
Perhaps it was a little paranoid of her to worry after such a short time, but the meeting with the Gorn had also left its mark on her. Unlike the rest of her family, she had not been on the SS Puget Sound because she had contracted Bolian smallpox, which was highly contagious, on the space station where they had stopped. Accordingly, she and her aunt, who was also ill, had been left on the station, with the expectation of returning to collect them after two weeks. At that time, no one could have guessed that it wouldn't come like that.
Her world had collapsed that day and, believing she had lost her entire family, she had spent days crying and refusing to eat or drink. And she probably would have gone on with it, had it not been for her aunt, who had begged her that her family had not wanted it that way and that she should not leave her alone. So she had carried on with her life as best she could, but it had seemed hollow and empty to her. Her siblings, but especially her twin, had been her motivation, her joy of life. A life without them had become unimaginable for her.
But just when she had convinced herself that it might, just maybe, be possible to survive without her family, the news arrived. La'an had survived. Her sister was alive. At first she hadn't wanted to believe it, the fear of raising her hopes unnecessarily was too great. Even when they were standing at the airlock, she had vehemently refused to even consider the possibility that she might still be alive. It was only when La'an had thrown herself around her neck, crying, and she had realised that, yes, La'an was alive, that she had been unable to hold on any longer and had cried just as unrestrainedly as La'an.
For the next few months, the twins were inseparable. Neither could last more than a few minutes in a room without the other, and their aunt had caught them both lying close together in bed at night to feel each other's body heat. Over the years, the situation had improved, but she still felt an uncomfortable feeling in her stomach when they were apart for long periods of time. She had been all the happier when she had learned that their paths would cross on this space station.
She herself was only nearby because she had been assigned by Starfleet to look more closely into the culture of Jitrav IV, with which it had only recently made contact. Strictly speaking, she was not a member of Starfleet in the sense of travelling the galaxy, but more in the sense of gathering information and reporting it back. In the past, she might have enjoyed flying through the quadrant in starships and getting to know new civilisations, but after the disaster with the Gorn, she had developed a real phobia about starships.
So she had devoted herself to exploring alien cultures from the safe distance of her home on Earth, but her work had been so distinguished that Starfleet had taken notice and wanted to hire her on one of their ships. She had decided against it, but in the end had gotten a relatively good deal out of it: Although she had to travel by starship from time to time, she would spend longer periods on other planets to learn about their cultures and languages. She documented her research thoroughly and sent it to Starfleet, whereas they paid for all her expenses as long as they remained within reason.
But this fear had not stopped her from getting into the first shuttle to this space station when La'an had told her that the Enterprise would dock there. She had been standing at her spot since early morning so as not to miss her sister. A few minutes ago, the first stream of Starfleet officers had poured onto the Promenade and she had to do her best to calm down. She knew La'an. She would not disembark until she was truly one hundred percent sure that there were no further duties. Knowing that her sister would need some more time, she began to observe the crowd of officers.
Frowning, she realised that most of them were human. She had expected this, but she had also been convinced that there had to be more non-humans on board. She noticed two Tellarites, a handful of Bolians and she thought she caught a glimpse of a Vulcan in a blue uniform out of the corner of her eye.
After twenty minutes of waiting, she saw an Aenar in a red uniform who was accompanied by a young woman in an equally red uniform who was talking intensely to him. Although he seemed grumpy and annoyed and gave the impression that he was not listening, she could see from his antennae directed at the young woman and the fact that she had spent two years on Andoria among Andorians and Aenar that he was listening more than attentively to her. Smiling, she shook her head and turned her attention back to the airlock. What a strange combination.
All in all, it took almost three quarters of an hour until she finally spotted her sister's dark braids, which were tightly braided back, but by then she could no longer be stopped. The promenade had emptied out a little in the meantime, so it wasn't particularly difficult for her to make her way to La'an, who fortunately noticed her in time. The latter fortunately noticed her in time to put her bag down before she crashed into the security officers. " Oof-" La'an groaned, but chuckled softly in response and after a short time of stiffness also put her arms around her to press her twin sister against her.
For a while they held each other tightly, even if it earned them some strange looks from bystanders. When she broke away from La'an, she noticed that she had blushed a little, but she didn't care. You are late, she signed. La'an nodded and smiled a little stiffly. "I know. However, I wanted to make sure everything was ready myself before I went to disembark." The young woman raised an eyebrow. Besides, you had to keep your reputation. La'an rolled her eyes. "Maybe a little."
La'an picked up her bags and followed her. They had agreed in advance to share quarters, so she just followed her to her quarters. Since it was difficult to converse while walking if one had to sign, they walked side by side in comfortable silence without another word to the other. It didn't bother her, as she knew that she and La'an would have plenty of time to talk. At the moment, it was simply important to her that her sister was with her again. Halfway to the lift, however, a voice stopped them. "Lieutenant Singh!"
They turned and she saw two women running towards them, whom she didn't know, her sister by all appearances did. One was slightly taller, had chin-length white-blonde hair and had apparently been the one who had called out to La'an. The other was smaller, had short dark hair and a cheeky grin on her lips. La'an just raised an eyebrow. "Yes?" "We were going out for a drink. Care to join us?" The taller one added with a quick glance at her" That goes for your...girlfriend too of course?" La'an narrowed her eyes. "She is my sister. And no thanks. I'm busy."
However, the two of them seemed not to have caught the last sentence, as the anthropologist and linguist was now the focus. "I didn't know you had a sister, Lieutenant." The blonde propped a hand on her hip as La'an took a deep breath. "Now you know." The shorter one held out her hand, which she hesitantly accepted. "My name is Erica Ortegas, Erica will do. And this is Christine." The blonde waved, but before she could do anything, La'an had placed a hand on her shoulder and hastily introduced her. "She is pleased to make your acquaintance, however we would like some time alone." Christine frowned. "Why don't you let her speak for herself?"
La'an's eyes only narrowed more, whereas she merely smiled in amusement and opened her mouth. Erica and Christine looked at her expectantly, only to look even more surprised when she began to sign instead. I'm mute and La'an translates for me, so it's all okay. She nodded her thanks to Christine. But thank you for your concern. After giving La'an a prompting look, she translated what her sister had said through clenched teeth, clearly annoyed at having been stopped by her colleagues.
Christine smiled but at the same time turned red in the face. "I'm sorry. Didn't mean it." She just tilted her head and nudged La'an. "That's all right. However, I would like to spend some time with my sister now." Erica and Christine, who was obviously still embarrassed by the whole thing, nodded and said a quick goodbye and she gave her sister a reproving look. You could have been a little nicer. La'an didn't respond any further.
Once in their quarters, La'an just barely took off her shoes and threw the bags on the floor before she fell backwards onto her bed and groaned. Her sister smiled slightly and snapped her hand to get her attention, whereupon she opened her eyes languidly. That bad? La'an sighed and sat up. "Well, I wouldn't know how to describe two run-ins with the Gorn any other way." She flinched and if she hadn't needed her hands to sign, she would have reached for La'an's. How? That was all she could bring herself to say, so much were her hands shaking. She knew how much the incident with the Gorn weighed on La'an, even more than on her, and the thought that her sister had had to face those monsters again did not make her feel at all comfortable.
La'an's voice broke several times before she was able to reply. "There were four Gorn ships. On Memorial Day. We barely got away, but we lost several crew members." She swallowed, but when she was asked if she wanted to stop, she replied in the negative. "The second time, we were on a planet, Valeo Beta V, responding to a distress call from a ship that had landed there. There weren't many of us, just a handful, and Enterprise had to move on and..." La'an broke off and her sister, who was now sitting next to her, squeezed her hand. In a shaky voice, La'an continued. "We found two survivors, however one was infected and before we knew it we were dealing with three hatchlings. Cadet Chia and Lieutenant Duke died. We almost lost our chief engineer as well."
But only almost? La'an laughed shakily. "It was more luck than good sense, really. We found out that the Gorn reproduce via their poison and Hemmer, our engineer, was hit. It didn't look good and without Doctor M'Benga on site...." She broke off. Gently her sister patted her back. He's all right though, isn't he? He's alive. "He was willing to sacrifice himself." La'an's voice was no more than a whisper and she had trouble understanding her. "I was the only one in the room with him, I could have stopped him, but I didn't do anything. I was too scared. If it hadn't been for the captain..." She tried to make calming noises to reassure La'an, however this seemed to have the opposite effect as she jumped up.
"No! You don't understand! I was ready to let a colleague, a friend, die because I was too scared! Because if I had thought even for a moment that he was from bloody Andoria, it might have occurred to me that he had a lower body temperature and consequently the process of hatching would be slowed! My fear almost killed Hemmer! How can I be head of security if my fear doesn't allow me to think clearly to protect the people who are under my protection?!"
She was shocked to see tears in La'an's eyes, which she resolutely wiped away. It's not your fault. She stood up and went over to her sister. Do you hear me? It is not your fault. He's alive, that's all that matters. "But I-" She clapped her hands loudly and interrupted La'an. No. It's not your fault, she repeated. Her gaze softened and she stroked La'an's shoulder. You have experienced traumatic things. No one blames you for being afraid. Most would have hidden in your place. Not you. No feelings of guilt. Please. La'an smiled bitterly before hugging her sister. "Thank you."
It took a while for the sisters to let go, but when they did, La'an seemed a lot more relaxed than before. At least, as relaxed as she could be. You have an Andorian as chief engineer? La'an frowned. "What makes you think that?" You said Andoria. "He's Aenar. They run even colder than Andorians. Don't ask me why though, I'm not a doctor."
I know. She grinned cheekily at her and they both had to think back to the incident in their childhood where La'an had tried to treat her wound with baking paper that did not absorb liquids. La'an smiled slightly. "I was six." So was I. Knew better anyway. She frowned briefly. Think I saw your chief engineer. "Oh yeah?"
She nodded. About that tall? She raised her hand. Red uniform. Grumpy? La'an smiled. "Sounds like Hemmer. Was he in company?" She nodded. Woman, small, short hair, black, red uniform. Talked a lot. La'an chuckled softly. "And that would be Uhura. She's a cadet, but one of the best linguists around. And she's somehow managed to befriend the grump of the ship." I didn't know you guys were friends. "Haha."
But he looked okay. Not hurt. A little grumpy, but healthy. "If that's your attempt to tell me it's all okay, stop. It's not making it better." She gave a silent sigh. Fine. But you need distraction. And relaxation. Her mind wandered back to the conversation from before. Fancy a drink?
~**~
It was like pulling teeth to convince La'an to go to the bar, but in the end she won and, followed by a somewhat grim-looking La'an, went down to the promenade, which by now, due to the hour, had filled up again. Which one do you want? Take your pick. La'an sighed and finally pointed to a larger establishment that formed the centre of the promenade. "If we're going to drink, let's do it properly." Her sister grinned and together they entered the room.
It was already well filled, yet she was still able to grab a small booth for them while La'an went to the bar to return with two colourful drinks. "Well then," La'an sighed as she slid into her seat and raised her glass. "To a wonderful evening." Her facial expressions were far too exaggerated, yet she didn't care. Cheers, she signed back, before picking up her glass herself and clinking her glass against her sister's.
The glasses clinked softly, the sound drowning in the noise around them, and in sync the sisters downed the drink. But while La'an remained expressionless, she screwed up her face and hastily put the glass down. What is this!!! La'an smiled to herself, which caused her sister's expression to darken further. "A little bit of everything." She screwed up her face. I'm going to have the hangover of my life. "Probably." Thank you for your compassion.
La'an grinned, however that smile faded as she looked past her sister. "Oh God." She turned, following La'an's gaze until her own gaze lingered on a group of people in Starfleet uniform. There were four people, three men and one woman, if she was so free to take that in. One of the men seemed to be "leading" the group. He wore a yellow and gold top, had silver and grey hair and a cheeky grin on his lips as he talked incessantly to the woman, also dressed in yellow. The latter had tied her dark hair into a high plait and did not look very impressed, but had a narrow smile on her lips. The other two were dressed in different shades of blue. One was slightly shorter, had a beard and was giving her dad vibes, whereas the other was clearly a Vulcan, his arms behind his back and one eyebrow raised sceptically.
The first man seemed to notice them because his face lit up and he waved at La'an before turning to the others, whereupon the group of four came towards them. La'an narrowed her eyes. "Just what I needed." Her sister gently slapped her arm and gave her a reproving look before the group was already beside them. "Hi." The man smiled broadly at her and briefly she wondered if this man had ever considered becoming a model for dental advertising, so white did his teeth appear. "Would it be okay if we joined you, La'an." The woman interposed. "Unless of course you'd like some time alone, which would be perfectly understandable." At that she gave the man a stern look, under which he shrank but his smile did not.
La'an glanced briefly at her sister before, in the face of the hopeful smile, she sighed in surrender and slid up a little to make room for the four. As everyone looked at her more or less expectantly, she took over the introductions. "This is my sister. She is currently working on Jitrav IV as a xeno-anthropologist. This is Captain Christopher Pike, Commander Una Chin-Riley, Lieutenant Spock and Doctor Joseph M'Benga. We serve together." She grinned at La'an. Oh really, I would never have guessed. La'an just rolled her eyes, however, she seemed to have caught the interest of the others.
The Vulcan, Spock, raised his eyebrow. "You use sign language." Mockingly, she raised her eyebrow in turn. Oh do I? I hadn't noticed. La'an snorted into her drink and tried to suppress a laugh. "What did she say?" Pike looked at her as if she was the most intriguing thing he'd ever seen, which flustered and confused her in equal measure. It wasn't that special now. La'an cleared her throat. "That she is pleased to make your acquaintance." Indignantly, she slapped La'an's arm. I didn't say that! "Subtext," La'an added, which earned her a snort.
She then turned her gaze to Spock. I am mute. Sign language is therefore my only way of communicating with others. It has been done that way for centuries. La'an translated for her without twisting the words in her mouth this time. Well, hands. M'Benga cleared his throat. "I thought there were treatments by now." She shook her head. No long-term ones. Besides, the risks are too great. After that, the four of them left it at that and they returned to a more relaxed conversation. At least they tried to, since most of the conversation was really just Pike and her, La'an's translations excluded, and the occasional comment from M'Benga. Una spoke up from time to time, as did La'an, but Spock was silent almost the entire time.
After half an hour, their drinks were empty and Pike offered to get more, which everyone agreed to, but he came back with two more people in tow, though she had already seen them. "Look who I ran into. Thought it would be nice to add to the fellowship," Pike grinned as he placed the drinks on the table, pointing to the Aenar and the young woman standing behind him. While the Aenar, Hemmer if she remembered correctly, looked just as grumpy as before, the young woman, Uhura, smiled all over her face and instantly locked eyes with her.
"Hi, you're Lieutenant Singh's sister, aren't you? The Captain had mentioned it." She held out her hand. "I'm Cadet Uhura, but please call me Nyota. This is Hemmer and don't worry," she leaned down a little towards her, "He's only half as grumpy as he looks." Hemmer scoffed. "I'm blind, not deaf, Uhura. I heard you." Nyota blushed but didn't apologise and on closer inspection, she could see that Hemmer didn't really look mad. She smiled at them both and quickly introduced herself. To her surprise, La'an didn't even bother to translate, as Nyota seemed able to do so herself.
"Oh, that's a beautiful name." You know sign language? Apparently one could see the surprise on her face, because Pike laughed softly. "Uhura is quite talented with languages, you might say." For the first time in half an hour, Spock spoke up. "Cadet Uhura speaks over thirty-seven languages, so by human parameters, she is more than 'quite talented'." Her jaw dropped? Thirty-seven? You're too good for this ship. That elicited a laugh from Uhura and after they had all scooted up, the other two had also squeezed onto the bench, Hemmer a little more reluctantly than Uhura, which was why she was now squeezed between La'an and Pike. There were worse things.
In time, they were joined by Erica and Christine, who had a young man named Sam Kirk in tow, which was the moment they decided to move the whole thing to a larger table. Now seated between M'Benga and Hemmer, facing La'an and Uhura, she noted with relief that her sister seemed to be starting to warm up. She knew that La'an would have preferred to be alone with her, but they would have plenty of time for that and at the moment she simply enjoyed being among so many people, which was not really common in her job, with the constant changing of places.
However, after almost another half hour of the crew telling their stories in Starfleet, including the amusing part of the Gorn disaster where Hemmer and Uhura were shot off the ship (Uhura confessed, admittedly a little drunk, that Hemmer had looked like a meerkat. The latter had protested, but his antennae and dark cheeks had betrayed him), they turned their attention to her and her profession. Patiently she answered, with La'an's help, until Uhura asked a question that made her think of something. "How do you manage to do your job with people who don't speak SSL (standard sign language)?"
For a moment she paused and frowned. What do you mean? La'an quietly translated for the rest and Uhura shifted back and forth in her seat. "Well, you meant that you were getting to know the native inhabitants of the planets to study their culture and the intricacies of their languages more closely, but how-" -can I do that without speaking myself? Uhura nodded and she smiled at her. One moment.
She rummaged in her trouser pocket and pulled out ten rings, each of which was connected to another, smaller ring with thin steel bands. She slipped them over her fingers so that the larger ring sat on her knuckle and the smaller one just below her fingernail. She then rolled up her sleeves to reveal two bracelets, one on each wrist, which she tapped on for some time until they beeped briefly and began to glow blue.
I don't need to speak. I have these. She signed, but a tinny female voice spoke for her. The people around her stared at her with wide eyes and of course Spock was the first to catch himself to ask a question. "Why didn't you use that before." It isn't complete. She regarded him with narrowed eyebrows as the voice continued to translate for her. It's missing the sensors for the face, arms and torso that I usually wear. Sign language is not just language of the hands. Is complex.
She looked down at her hands. It's not exact and I have to sign very slowly and clearly for the right thing to come out. Besides, it's slow. Takes longer than living translator. Not a problem with speeches, awkward with conversations. With that, however, she seemed to have caught Hemmer's attention. "Sure the whole thing couldn't be calibrated more sensitively?" She shrugged. Don't have a clue about such things. Starfleet takes care of that sort of thing. However, this is just a prototype, better is to come soon. Apparently she had signed too quickly and uncleanly this time, because the voice didn't spit out "Starfleet" but "Stargazer". Annoyed, she frowned and deactivated the bracelet.
"I think it's cool," Nyota declared, smiling broadly, which earned her a slight smile as well. Quite a bit.
After that, the conversation turned back to more mundane things and no one talked about the bracelets, even though she sensed that Hemmer was tempted to get his hands on them. He did not say so, but his antennae twitched conspicuously in her direction. After two hours, however, La'an and she decided to leave. This was accompanied by a series of disappointed noises, but they did not let themselves be brought down. After promising Uhura to polish up her SSL and Hemmer that he could look at her speaking aid tomorrow, she and La'an wished everyone a good night before they left the bar.
In the lift, they leaned against the wall and La'an heaved a sigh. "This is not how I had imagined my evening to be, if I'm honest." But it was still nice, wasn't it? La'an pursed her mouth. "Tolerable." She grinned at La'an. I can live with that. She pinched her sister's cheek to keep her attention. I like them, all of them. They're nice. La'an shook her head with a smile. "Especially Uhura though, right?" It's always nicer to talk to people who understand you without you. The lift doors opened and La'an pulled her behind her. "Come on. You owe me another game of cards and this time you won't be able to wriggle out of it."

Uhura: What, in your opinion, is the height of stupidity?
Y/N: (turns to see Spock and La’an sat side by side but not talking to each other despite the fact they’ve sought each other out and are clearly in love but refusing to acknowledge it.) Hey, braids and bangs- how tall are you guys?

Hello! I saw that you were taking requests for Captain Pike, and was wondering if you could make one for me? The scenario could be where the reader and Pike have a father/child type relationship (the reader views Pike as a father figure), and he protects the reader from some people that corner them in the mess hall? The reason why is up to you! If you can't do this for whatever reason, I totally understand.
Oh don’t worry I got your back! I took the getting cornered relatively literally and as being bullied I hope that scratches the itch!
Especially When It’s You (Platonic Pike x Reader)
Tumblr media
Rating: E for Everyone
Word Count: 793
Content: Non-descript verbal bullying (to avoid triggers but you’ll get the idea), implied alien and/or neurodivergent!Reader, Cadet!Reader, GN!Reader, established friendship, non-violent Protective!Pike, Paternal!Pike, hurt/comfort, paternal advice.
P.S. Just watched Balance of Terror and decided to cope by giving Stiles (the a**hole who’s racist at Spock) a hard time in this one! Hope you like it! >:)
Teaser: You hoped that a semester aboard the Enterprise would help you avoid your Academy bullies, you thought wrong. Luckily for you the Captain is a family friend, and he’s not about to allow anybody to get away with hurting you.
It wasn’t the first time you’d been harassed by your classmates, particularly these two. You had hoped that they’d be too distracted by their duties. That the pressure and prestige of spending a whole semester aboard the Enterprise would keep them away from you.
It seems you were wrong. Starfleet was supposed to be different, but it seems prejudice could worm its way even into the most noble of institutions. You covered your ears to block out their childish jabs at you, unwilling to provoke them further.
“Stiles! Andova!”
Both Cadets froze in their tracks at the sound of the Captain’s voice. He was tall for a Human, he towered over them both despite the two cadets being (supposedly) adults, save for their behavior.
“Is there a problem?”
Pike glared at them both with a look of irritation and disappointment usually reserved for only the most asinine and incorrigible of Federation diplomats.
“It’s nothing sir-“
“We were just talking to Y/N-“
“Didn’t sound like it. In my ready room, eighteen hundred hours, not a second later, no excuses. Back to your stations now. Or I’ll have you assigned to Lieutenant Noonien-Singh for patrol drills until the end of the semester.”
The two young men fled the mess hall like cockroaches from a lamplight. The Captain pulled up a chair and sat across from you. Sympathetically waiting for you to recover from the overstimulating and humiliating interaction.
“You alright Y/N?”
“Yes sir, I will be sir.”
“You don’t have to ‘sir’ me Cadet, you’re off duty, and I should be too, but, you know how it is. And, not to pull the nostalgia card, I’ve known you since before you could walk.”
“Hahah, sorry Chris.”
The icebreaker melted and Chris’s frown returned, he subtly reached his hand toward the middle of the table, sensing you might want to take it but not pressuring you to do so.
“I enjoy checking up on you, you know I do, but I don’t have a lot of time. So, I need you to tell me exactly what happened before I showed up so I can recommend them both for disciplinary action and psych eval.”
“It’s okay sir, they were just-“
“No. It’s not okay.” Pike said, gravely.
“Hazing is one thing, bullying is another. This is the Enterprise, on my ship we don’t put up with willful ignorance from anyone. And I do mean anyone, Cadet, Admiral, doesn’t matter, I will not have it on my ship. This is Starfleet, they should know better, we should know better. Maybe the Klingon War made the Federation a little lax on prejudice, but I won’t be. Especially when it’s you. Nobody messes with my crew, not even my crew.” Chris laughed at his own joke, but there was a tinge of frustration to it.
You still weren’t used to seeing Chris angry, it’s always strange seeing a family friend in a new context like work or school. But even when you were on the Bridge during tense situations he almost never raised his voice at a crew member, it was impressive considering the pressure. You hoped that maybe you could emulate it if, no, when you made Captain and had your own ship one day.
“Thank you s- Chris. Thanks, Chris.” you took the hand he’d quietly offered and squeezed it, but only for a moment.
You took a deep breath, and told him everything, not just from today in the mess hall, but everything that the two of them had done before that. Everything you had kept bottled up, because at least with Chris, it felt safe.
He leaned back in his chair, steely eyed, chewing on his jaw slightly, processing what you said.
“Y/N” he started, clearly swallowing his knee-jerk anger over what had been allowed to happen to you.
“If you need anything, go to Dr. M’Benga, or Nurse Chapel, tell them I sent you, take care of yourself, I’ll handle everything else. If I can pull some strings, you won’t be sharing a shift, or a classroom, with either of those Cadets anytime soon. Alright?”
“Yes sir.”
Chris got up and left, letting you finish your meal and get back to work in comforting silence. The last time you ever saw Stiles and Andova again they were running laps near the port nacelles with Noonien-Singh looking on, and if you didn’t know any better, you could have sworn you saw her wink when she noticed you’d seen them.
Turns out you were right after all, Starfleet was different, and if nobody had your back, the Enterprise certainly did.
Chris had your back, and you knew wherever duty took you, part of him always would.

Apathy is Death Part 2
Tumblr media
Ok so this one took a absurd amount of time to finally write up and post but its finally up and ready. Like the first part, I took a lot of inspiration from several older shows I used to watch to help build this plot. Hope you like how it came out.
The trek back to the nearest Federation Starbase was becoming very tense. The revelation of what the away team had discovered on the Shran had spread through the ship like wildfire. The news had put everyone on edge. Despite numerous investigations by the science team and several security sweeps of the Shran, nothing came up that could shed even the tiniest hint as to what happened.
And without a cause, the crew had turned to paranoia. Theories had ranged from the unplausible like Klingons having poisoned their food supply to the deranged like a new Romulan weapon designed to curb aggressive behavior.
Normally Spock would’ve found the human proclivity towards these ideas to be fascinating, but it was slowly becoming dangerous. Spock had noticed that anytime the lights even flickered, any nearby crew he saw grew severely agitated. He’d even had to intervene when two Andorian and Tellarite crewmembers had nearly come to blows with mutual accusations.
“Number One to Spock.” Spock stopped his march to the science lab to answer his communicator.
“Go ahead sir.” He replied.
“Ensign Lance hasn’t shown up for his shift on the bridge yet and he’s over half an hour overdue.” Una stated.
“That is the twelfth crewmen who has been late for their shift in the last two days.” Spock added, a small amount of irritation present in his voice. He quickly shut his annoyance down. He had to remind himself to keep his temper in check. While lateness to a bridge shift was wholly unprofessional, it served no purpose to allow his irritation to be so obvious. “I am close to junior officer crew quarters. Would you prefer I retrieve him?”
“Please do Mr Spock.” Una said. She continued though a great deal softer. “He better have a good reason for his tardiness. Ensign Christina looks like she’s about to pass out at her console right now.”
“I will endeavor to hurry then. Spock out.” He closed his communicator and followed the corridors till he found Ensign Lance’s quarters.
Spock pressed the ring and waited. After a minute with no response, he rung the door again. When no one came, he used his security override to open the door. Inside he found Ensign Lance, laying flat on the bed, still in his uniform from yesterday’s shift.
Spock could feel the anger rising in himself. Taking a sigh of exasperation, he turned to the matter synthesizer and requested a glass of water. He walked over to the sleeping Ensign and threw the water on the man’s face.
Ensign lance sputtered to life as the water hit him. Sluggishly, he rose himself from his bed muttering a dozen human curses until he saw Spock’s face.
“Sir.” Ensign Lance stammer out. “What… What are you doing here?”
“Ensign, you are over thirty minutes late for your shift on the bridge.” Spock said, trying to sound professional while keeping his annoyance in check.
“Oh shit…” Lance said as he looked around his room. “I must have slept in.” “That much is obvious.” Spock snarked at him. Taking a breath before his continued. “Please take a minute to put a clean uniform shirt on then head up to the bridge to replace Ensign Christina.”
Spock then departed and headed for the bridge. Within a minute, he could hear what he presumed was Ensign Lance fast walking in order to catch up. The two took the turbolift in silence to the bridge.
Once they were on the bridge, Spock turned to sit at his own console whilst the two Ensigns began their swap off. As Ensign Christina departed from her seat, she “accidently” smacked her shoulder into Ensign Lance.
“Ow! What the hell?” Lance complained.
“Oops.” Christina said, no sympathy at all in her voice.
“Look I’m sorry I’m late. I’m just so tired.” Lance said.
“So am I!” Christina retorted, getting the attention of nearly everyone on the bridge. “But at least I wasn’t the one almost an hour late for his shift.”
“Enough you two!” Una ordered as she pinched her brow.
“Given how you’ve been nodding off at the console the last two days, I don’t think you’re in the best place to complain.” Lance countered closing the distance between them. “Maybe if you calmed down, you wouldn’t be acting like such bitch!”
That sent her over the edge. Christina slapped him, hard. There was a moment of dead silence on the bridge as Lance and Christina book took in what had just happened. But when that moment ended, all hell broke loose. Both Ensigns started attacking each other with full fury. For Spock, it was like watching two Klingon warriors trying to rip each other to bits. Una and La’an stepped in to grab and extract Ensign Christina while Spock and Ortegas subdued Ensign Lance.
“Get them off the bridge!” Pike ordered. Two security officers arrived a minute later, grabbed the two ensigns and escorted them off the bridge. Once they were gone, Pike led Una, Spock and La’an to his ready room.
“What the hell is going on here?” Pike asked to his officers.
“Everyone on this ship is on edge sir.” La’an sighed loudly. “Without answers, people are starting to panic as paranoia and fear take over.
“Furthermore sir, LT Hemmer’s report of lighting and other power issues throughout the ship is fueling those fears.” Spock added. “People are starting to fear that what happened to the Shran might happen here.”
“Are we in danger of that happening here?” Una asked, poorly disguised worry in her voice.
“I am uncertain.” Spock admitted. “We simply do not possess enough information as to the cause of the Shran’s losses. Without more information, we have no way of knowing if our own misfortunes are cause for greater concern beyond simple low morale.”
“I’ve seen ships with low morale, never ones where crewmembers repeatedly late and picking fights on the bridge.” La’an started to lean against the table. Spock could tell just looking at her that she was exhausted.
“Maybe we can do something to raise their spirits.” Pike wondered aloud. “Something to keep them from killing each other till we make port.”
“Movie night? Large banquet?” Una offered.
La’an gave a small laugh. “Yeah I can see it now. Distracting everyone with an episode of…”
But she didn’t finish that sentence. La’an lost her grip on the table and started to fall to the floor. Spock was there in record time to catch her before she hit the ground, letting her brace herself on his chest, he helped her back to her feet.
“You ok La’an?” Una asked in her motherly voice that La’an had known far too well.
“I’m fine.” La’an said avoiding eye contact as Spock lowered her down to the nearby chair. “I just… lost my balance”
Una took a seat next to her cupping her face in her hands. “La’an, when was the last time you slept?”
The question seemed to puzzle La’an for a second. “Umm… I…”
Una sighed. “Did you stay up all night again? Oh La’an.” Una said the last part with the same tone a mother might use when gently chastising their child.
La’an turned away sheepishly. She felt bad for having upset Una. The woman had been like a second mother to her, and it never sat well with her whenever Una was disappointed with her actions.
Spock interjected to save her. “Perhaps LT, now would be a good time to take a sick day and recuperate?”
La’an nodded silently. She tried to stand up but her feet felt like jelly and she just about collapsed again. Like before, Spock was there to catch her and help balance her. “Can you…” She began.
“I will assist you back to your room.” Spock answered tenderly as he readjusted his grip on her to make her more comfortable. The two then exited the conference room and began the trek back to La’an’s quarters.
The walk back was abnormally solitary. Given La’an’s slower pace, the trip was taking a great deal longer than normal. After several minutes of awkward silence, La’an finally spoke. “I served on the Shran once.”
“You did?” Spock asked surprised by her decision to reveal such information. “Did you know any of the current crew?”
“Not many. Most had transferred out after I left.” La’an answered. “But I did know one of the ship’s security officers. LT David North. He took over my position after I transferred out. But I knew him from before.”
“Before?” Spock inquired. “We were students at the academy together.” La’an answered. “I didn’t have many friends at the academy, but he and I were still close.”
“Were you two ever…” Spock asked, a hint of jealousy in his voice.
La’an gave a small smile. The concept that her big, tall logical Vulcan could feel an emotion like jealousy was unexpected but extremely funny to her. “No. We bonded over shared loss. He’d lost his family to the Klingons during a raid before the war. I guess we both bonded over our loss.”
Spock nodded as the pair continued down the hallway until they neared sickbay. As they arrived, they saw two of their fellow officers, LTs Mitchell and Ortegas having a rather heated discussion. “Look I don’t want to talk about Erica.” Mitchell said, her tone showcasing her evident frustration.
“I’m telling you it can’t have been that bad.” Erica joked. “Come on we all do embarrassing stuff here. Did I ever tell you about that time at the academy when I…”
“You have.” Mitchell said with more annoyance in her voice. “Many times.”
“When then you know.” Erica smiled and continued her argument as if she hadn’t been interrupted. “We all mess up and do funny stuff.”
“What happened wasn’t funny Erica.” Jenna countered angrily. “What I saw there was downright terrifying, and I don’t feel like laughing about how pathetic I must’ve looked. Everyone else has done enough of that.”
“Come on you can’t let what everyone else is saying get to you. Erica remarked, a new measure of kindness in her voice. “You want people to stop bugging you about it then you’ve gotta roll with it.”
“I really wish YOU would stop bugging me about it.” Jenna said through gritted teeth. Spock and La’an and stopped their match to her quarters after having seen the tension in Jenna escalating, and Erica apparently being completely ignorant of it.
“Look I’m just trying to help…” But Erica couldn’t finish her sentence. Jenna had grabbed her and slammed her friend against the bulkhead.
Jenna stared over her friend as Erica’s mind caught up to what had just happened. “Stay the hell away from me.” Jenna yelled at her before stomping down the hall in the opposite direction that Spock and La’an were in.
The pair in turn had been frozen to their spot, unable to comprehend what had just happened. Jenna Mitchell and Erica Ortega had been very close friends. Jenna’s aggression at her friend had come as a surprise. Once they got over their shock, the pair moved to Erica and helped her to her feet.
“Are you alright Lieutenant?” Spock asked as he helped Erica up.
“Yeah…” Erica began as she looked down the hallway her friend had left down. “What the hell just happened?”
“It seems the events on the Shran have affected LT Mitchell more so than she had led us to believe.” Spock theorized.
“No kidding.” La’an commented then turned to face Erica. “Has she ever been this way before?”
“No. Jenna’s always been one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. She loves flying ships and musical theatre. She’s not a violent person.” Erica replied defending her friend.
“So what do you think we should do now?” La’an asked tensly. She hated where this line of questioning could go but she needed to ask it. Mitchell had assaulted a fellow officer and that was indeed a court martial level offense. La’an hated having to put her own people on trial but as Chief of Security, it was a necessary duty that she’d sometimes had to perform.
But thankfully Erica Ortegas was not in the mood for such an act. “No please don’t push this any further. I’ll give her a few days of space and talk to her once we make it to the Starbase. She doesn’t deserve to have her career ruined over this.
Erica then removed herself from Spock and La’an’s hold as she departed. Spock and La’an meanwhile continued their trek towards La’an’s quarters. Once inside, La’an thanked him for the escort as she went about removing her uniform and changing into her pajamas.
Meanwhile, Spock took note of the decorations that made up her quarters. La’an’s quarters were remarkably spartan compared to most of the senior officers on the ship. There were a few decorations that he recognized as certificates of achievement and medals from bravery. What he did notice was a low volume of any decorations regarding family. He charted a small picture by the bed of a large group of humans outside a starship that Spock theorized was the S.S. Puget Sound. Another picture he saw contained La’an with LT CMDR Una Chin Riley. Given the background of the academy, Spock suspected this photo was taken on her graduation date. The one that drew the most attention was a small picture on the wall was of a young La’an, perhaps a teenager beside a pair of adults and two teens that he couldn’t identify. Unlike the previous picture where Spock saw either a familiar face or family resemblance, the group in the last photo shared no physical resemblance to her.
La’an had fully changed into a silk black nightgown. She quickly noticed the attention Spock paid to the photo. She walked over to him.
“This group of humans is not anyone I am familiar with.” Spock observed. “Are you friends with them?”
La’an nodded slightly. “Of a sort. They were the family that took me in after I was rescued.”
Spock turned to her with a look of surprise. “I had assumed that you had been raised by CMDR Chin Riley, given the closeness you share.”
“She was around a lot growing up, but she was just starting her own career. She couldn’t take care of me full time, but she made sure I found my way into a good home.” La’an explained.
“What were their names?” He asked.
“Paula and Lenoard.” La’an said softly, as if saying the words would cause something to break.
“You do not mention this family often.” Spock observed.
La’an took a step back from Spock and walked over to the bed, putting a bit of distance between them. “Yeah… I know.”
“May I ask why?” Spock inquired.
La’an sighed. “I guess it’s because I don’t talk to them often.”
Spock gave his classic quizzical eyebrow move, clearly expecting her to continue. “Don’t get me wrong I’m grateful to them for taking me in, but I was trouble. Always getting into fights, creating trouble where none existed.”
“Clearly it must be more than that.” Spock observed.
“Spock…” La’an began as he walked around the bed she’d put between them and gripped her hands in his.
“You clearly care about this family and are grateful to them.” Spock observed. “If not, it is unlikely you would’ve kept a picture of them in your room. So why is it they are causing you such anxiety?
La’an took a shaky breath. “Spock, I was never their true child. They had real children of their own. I was just an obligation they had to fulfill.
Realization dawned for Spock. “Is that why you never changed your name?”
La’an gave a quick nod. “Partly. But also… I didn’t want to forget my family. My parents, my brother. The name might have a stigma but as long as I kept it, at least a part of them would live on in me.”
“That life they gave you isn’t worth much if you refuse to allow yourself to live it.” Spock delivered as softly as he could.
La’an turned her face to him in mild shock. She wanted to argue with him but the fight in her was already gone, because she knew he was right. “Isn’t that what I’ve been doing with you the past few weeks? Plus are you really the best person to judge when it comes to terrible life choices?”
Spock gave her a soft nod of agreement as he helped her lay down on the bed. “Please get yourself some adequate rest. I will see you in the morning.”
As he walked out of her room, she spoke to him. “Hey Spock, you make sure you do the same.”
The next day however didn’t seem to bring the rest any of them needed. Spock had been tossing in his bed for hours, but sleep hadn’t even come. By morning, he’d given up and went to his closet to change into a new pair of clothes
When he arrived in the conference room, everyone looked extremely ragged. LT Hemmer began his brief one everyone was there. “Sir, we’ve been having some power issues throughout the ship.”
“You talking about the annoying light flickering?” Una asked, annoyance evident in her voice.
“That’s only a symptom of the problem.” Hemmer continued. “Several decks are now experiencing power flow problems. The only problem I can’t pinpoint where its coming from. We’ve got plenty of power for this ship, but several decks appear to have been cut from the EPS network.”
Spock look up with concern. “That appears to be very similar to what LT Mitchell reported on the Shran.”
“Possibly.” Hemmer continued. “But I’m worried my crew is too exhausted right now to conduct such repairs. Since the Shran, the crew’s been having difficulties sleeping and they’ve been getting into more fights than ever.”
Spock looked to La’an in concern. “Fine whatever.” CPT Pike replied.
Hemmer, Spock and La’an looked at Pike is disbelief. “Sir?” Hemmer asked.
“As long as we make it to port intact, I don’t care if you resolve it not or when we’re back.” Pike said as he picked up from the table along with Una and Ortegas, all of them looking annoyed and tired.
“That was… unexpected.” Spock said as they watched their fellow officers depart.
“That’s an understatement.” Hemmer added.
“I’ve never seen CPT Pike behave so flippantly before.” La’an admitted.
“La’an, Hemmer, I am concerned that what happened to the Shran could’ve spread to Enterprise.” Spock admitted. “I also can theorize that if it has, I believe we have also been infected.”
“How would that be possible?” La’an asked. “We scanned for biohazards when we entered and left the shuttle both times.”
“Unless it doesn’t affect a person physically but psionically.” Hemmer added in.
“You suggest we’re dealing with a telepathic presence? Can you sense it?” Spock asked.
“No, but I have been feeling off since we encountered the Shran.” Hemmer admitted. “Psionics is the only thing I can think of that would make sense.”
“Whatever the source is, we need to find it.” La’an said. “Is there any way we can protect ourselves from whatever this
“I believe myself and LT CMDR Spock have been able to block out the effect due to our telepathic training. You, LT seem to have some form of resistance already.” Hemmer answered.
“Possibly a side effect of the mind meld.” Spock added.
“Alright then, we all need to work together to get out of this.” La’an declared. “I scan Enterprise and the Shran for anomalies. Hemmer will keep working the power problem and Spock…”
“I will be reviewing the Shran’s logs. Perhaps an answer lies there that we haven’t discovered yet.
An hour later, Hemmer had reported in, calling the senior officers to Deck 8. However only Spock and La’an arrived within a few minutes, the others believed to be lagging behind.
“What did you find?” Spock asked looking up from the PADD that contained the Shran’s logs.
“The main source of the EPS malfunctions is down here on Deck 11, Section 4.” Hemmer explained. “Either of you find out anything?
“Indeed.” Spock said showing his PADD. “The logs have proven to be quiet fascinating. The ones that offer the most promise appear to be those of the ship’s Chief Science Officer. I found several hidden personal logs of his going back weeks. I have been reviewing them.”
“What have you learned about him?” La’an asked.
“The man appears to be a very ambitious and mischievous individual. He always had some kind of scheme planned to deal with whatever troubles came his way. His studies might hold the key to explaining why our crews are behaving the way they are.
By the time in their conversation the other officers arrived, the trio could tell they all looked horrid. Their movements were ragged, slow and they were aggressively sniping at each other the entire way or they looked like they’d pass out where they stood.
“Why are we all here LT Hemmer?” Pike asked rubbing his temple.
“I believe I found the source of our technical problems.” Hemmer answered.
“Great.” Ortegas said with biting sarcasm. “You know blue man group this was the kind of conversation that could’ve been done over comms.
“We got dragged all the way down here for this?” Christine sighed.
Spock leaned into La’an. “I truly hope when we resolve this technical issue that the crew with return to their normal selves.”
La’an gave a nod of approve to Spock but she stopped hallway as her eyes were drawn to something in the dark corridor. She walked past the group, the snark session between them ended as all their eyes were on the Chief of Security as she silently and carefully edged her way closer to the dark corridor, her eyes trying to focus on whatever it ways she’d seen a moment ago.
Just when she was about give up, a pair of bright red eyes appear in the corridor, causing La’an to recoil in fear.
“Something’s down there.” She managed to get out.
“What was it?” Spock asked, the same fear evident in her voice.
“Who cares?” Erica retorts.
“La’an, your eyes were probably playing tricks on you anyways.” Christine sighed.
“She’s probably right La’an.” Una chimed in.
“No, I swear I saw something!” La’an countered, anger growing in her voice along with her fear.
“Look, let’s forget all this and just get back to Starbase One…” Chris tried to say.
“I’m not leaving till we check out whats down there!” La’an yelled at the top of her lungs, drawing everyone else in the corridor into a stunned silence.
“If I may.” Hemmer interjected. “The conduit we have to fix is down that hallway anyways. If we’re going to keep the ship from more blackouts, we should fix it.”
“Spock and I will clear the halls.” La’an ordered. “Once its clear, Hemmer, you can come down and fix the conduits.”
The trio nodded as the now lethargic crewmembers just sighed in exasperation and sat down in the hallway. La’an and Spock pulled out their personal phasers along with tactical lights as they began the trek down the dark corridor.
As they walked down the corridor, Spock’s mind was still partially focused on his PADD that contained the records, specifically those of the Chief Science Officer T’Ran. The pair had arrived at one of the blown EPS relays when La’an noticed that Spock was paying additional attention to his PADD.
“Something of interest for you on it?” She asked, her rifle still pointed down range.
“The records of Scientist T’Ran are fascinating.” Spock admitted. “I believe his experiments may hold clues to understanding our current dilemma.
“You said that a few hours ago, find anything since?” La’an asked, somewhat curious.
“Perhaps. He was conducting some kind of research on an unknown specimen he brought back from the borderlands. Apparently, this research wasn’t authorized as I can find no records of it in the ships data logs. Furthermore, these particular records have been encrypted and they don’t match the official records submitted to the ship’s command team.” Spock answered as he continued to tap at the PADD.
“Illegal experiment.” La’an clenched her teeth. “Hasn’t that destroyed enough Starfleet ships? Didn’t this scientist hear about what happened to the Cabot?”
“I suspect he was aware, but it didn’t concern him. Perhaps, in his arrogance he believed that his experiments wouldn’t result in the same catastrophic failure.” Spock theorized, saddened to see that perhaps several Starfleet officers had died because of the ego of a scientist.
La’an got up from her perch and turned to Spock. “I’m going to check the next junction. Form up with me when you finish tagging this one.”
The pair nodded as they got back to their business. Spock ran through the junction once more, tagging the panels in need of repair. He was about to depart and form up with La’an when his eyes noticed something on the PADD, he turned to the PADD and kept reading.
By then, La’an had arrived at the next EPS junction at a corner in the hall. She still felt tense as she approached it. She knew something was out there but as of now, she hadn’t encountered it.
Spock eyes quick sped through the pages of the encrypted reports till he found what he was looking for on the last page. It was a drawing, one clear enough for Spock to know exactly what it was. His eyes went and his voice had an audible gasp. Spock dropped the PADD and sprinted down the hallway.
La’an was bent over observing the next EPS conduit when she felt a presence staring down at her. She slowly rose her head up lifting the rifle to shine the light. And when she did, La’an felt something she hadn’t felt since the Gorn had taken her family; terror.
Above her were several creatures that she could describe as nothing less than monsters. A pitch black ooze covered their skin, in some cases dripping off their bodies like molten tar, their arms, bent unnaturally in several places hung at their side swinging like meat hanging on a hook. Their heads were humanoid but severely misshapen with the jaw hanging from skull loosely allowing the creatures mouth to extend to a disturbingly long amount. But it was how they carried themselves that send the deepest shivers down La’an’s spine. They were hunched over in several places with the torso leaning heavily forward or back and the head looking like it had been twisted to bend until it was almost resting on one of its shoulders.
And then they saw her.
They let out a screech that shook the halls. La’an found her head getting heavy as she tried to raise her rifle. She fired and the shot went wide, grazing one of the creatures causing it no harm. She dropped the rifle and ran as fast as she could back to Spock.
Seeing him down the hall, she ran right to him. “Spock, we have to run!” She shrieked.
“You saw them?” Spock managed to get out, his fear somewhat calmed knowing she was alive.
He got his answer when he heard the noise down the corridor and saw the creatures slowly lumbering to them. The pair ran at full sprint down the corridor and back to where Hemmer and the others were keeping guard.
Pike and the others had nearly become catatonic by this point, even Hemmer was feeling the oppressive weight of lethargy take him. All that was undone when they heard La’an and Spock screaming down the hall. The sound of their friend’s panicked voices woke Chris, Una and Ortegas from their stupors to see the pair run out of the darkness.
“What the hell’s going on?” Una asked.
“No time to explain!” La’an coughed out. “We found the cause of our problems and they’re chasing us!”
“Captain, we need to escape this deck.” Spock said. “If they catch us, we’re all dead.”
The same blood curling screech came down the halls and everyone there bore witness to the horde begin their emergence from the darkness. Everyone took off in a sprint, hoping to make it to a Jeffries tube or a turbolift before they got caught.
The creatures let out another screech and the running officers all covered their ears in agony as unbelievable pain spread through their bodies. Everyone began to find their heads feel heavy as they found themselves falling to the ground. Some of them still tried in vain to drag themselves to safety as the monsters grew closer.
As Spock tried to do the same, his eyes caught sight of the airlock release console. The console allows instant release of a ship that was docked without going through undocking procedures. At the current state with no ships docked, the console would instead vent the entire deck. It was risky but as Spock could see, there were no other alternatives.
“Everyone hold on to something tight!” Spock yelled at the top of his lungs. He saw the crew all realize his plan. Chris, Erica, Una and Christine all grabbed onto the bulkheads tightly. A second later he felt La’an wrap her arms tighyl around his torso and lock them in place. She gave him a quick nod as he pressed the console and the nearby airlocks opened, the sudden onset of that force quickly gripped the creatures and started to suck them all out into the darkness of space. They tried to hold on as best as they could, trying to strike their claws into the floor to gain a foothold but it was pointless. They all slowly lost grip and got sucked out into space.
But their crew wasn’t going much better. The force had been so great that the crew was struggling to hold on themselves. Spock could see everyone straining themselves to the max to hold one. La’an too was losing her grip. But there was still one of those creatures who was still hanging on.
It tried to scream but no noise came out. Meanwhile Spock could feel La’an’s grip on him loosing. He couldn’t risk readjusting himself since one hand needed to be on the console to close the airlocks. He just prayed that the creature lost its grip before La’an.
The creature kept sliding more and more as it tried to readjust its grip but continuously failing. As it reached the edge of the airlock, La’an’s grip broke and she flew away from Spock. Acting on instinct, Spock quickly closed the airlock down. The action crushed the creature spilling its blood all over the door as La’an dropped out of the air and crashed down less than half a meter from the airlock entrance.
The crew all took a second to recover as Spock dashed from the console to La’an. He rolled her over onto her back exhaling a breath of relief when he was that she was still breathing and conscious.
“Perfect timing Spock.” La’an whispered out with a sweet smile, one that brought a similar smiled to Spock’s face.
Everyone had gone straight to sickbay to make sure whatever affects those creatures had done was gone. And to listen to Spock’s revelation of what they had just faced.
“The Klingons have a word for these creatures. They call them soul takers. They are monsters mythically believed to inhabit the Klingon underworld Gre’thor. They possess a strong psionic ability to influence those around them, causing them to turn on each other, become violent and eventually drain away their will to live.”
The crew continued to sit in silence listening to Spock. “According to Scientist T’Ran’s logs, he bought one of these creatures from a trader in the Orion sector illegally. He began several experiments on it trying to figure out how to weaponize its abilities. And he succeeded. His experiment allowed the creature to reproduce until their numbers were so great that they overwhelmed the crew, causing them to all give up on life and lay down to die.”
“My God.” Nurse Chapel whispered. “So what happens now.”
“Thanks to our encounter, we now know their bio-signature.” Una explained. “We swept Enterprise and the Shran. There are no more of them left.”
“And now that this horror fest is over, I hereby order everyone to take the day off.” Chris smiled. “Starfleet is sending an escort and I’ll request a command crew to fly us in.”
Everyone mumbled in agreement as they all dispersed back to their own personal recovery. Spock and La’an quietly made their way back to her quarters. The pair ended up laying down on the bed with La’an tucked nicely into Spock’s chest.
“I’m glad that’s over.” La’an admitted. “Now that those creatures are gone, I feel better. Like a weight has been lifted.
“I believe I feel the same way.” Spock agreed. “Those creatures may not have been able to affect us as hard as the rest of the crew but the experience was definitely not pleasant.”
La’an nodded silently and laid her head back down as Spock ran his hands through her now unbraided hair. “Is something else bothering you?” He asked.
“I guess… I can’t stop thinking about my adoptive family back on Earth.” She admitted. After our conversation earlier today, my mind has been on them a while.”
“When was the last time you spoke with them?” He asked.
“Maybe a year or two before the Klingon War.” La’an admitted. “With everything that happened after the Battle of the Binary Stars, I just never found time to talk to them since.”
“We have that time now.” Spock offered.
La’an raised up from spot. “Spock… I haven’t spoken to them in so long…”
Spock didn’t let her finish. “If they are like any true parents, then they truly love you no matter how much time has passed… and no matter if you are their biological child or the one they chose to bring into their home as raise like one of their own.”
Spock’s words were the push she needed. La’an went to her console and quickly checked them time back to her adoptive family’s town. Seeing it was midafternoon, she took a deep breath, felt Spock’s reassuring hand on her back and sent the call request.
Within ten seconds, the line was open and La’an adoptive mother appeared on the screen. She put her hand to her mouth in shock, tears coming out of her eyes.. “La’an?”

Hi!~ I'm interesting in participating in your FemSlash event this year, and just wanted to make absolutely sure what I was thinking of writing was alright. So, is it alright for what I write to be for a character (female obviously) from Strange New Worlds? And is it allowed to be a 'femcharacter x gn!reader', or is this only for 'femcharacter x femcharacters' I just like to make sure before I do anything for events lol. Thanks~ (you can answer this publicly, privately or dm me - your choice) :)
Hi @make-me-imagine! Yes, that would be absolutely alright. We're happy to hear you're interested in writing for the event! It's open to all of Star Trek this year, though we're still using our usual Discovery promo material as that's the mods' main focus.
Because a Femslash Fortnight implies female characters only, we've decided not to promote the event for enby characters as we wouldn't want to make people think we're clustering them with women, but as the event is there to create more fan content for women because they often get less attention, and nonbinary characters certainly face the same issue, we're open to submissions about them.
Also, as long as the main character of your story is a woman, you're already meeting the requirements anyway - you could even write about a bi or straight woman with a male partner, as long as she is clearly the focus of the story and not the het relationship.
Have fun writing!

first name basis - jim kirk
Request: nope Pairing: jim kirk (snw) x reader Summary:  jim insists you call him by his first name, but you're not sure about it Warnings:  bit of language but thats it Word count:  539 A/N: saw that episode with la'an and jim and got this idea :) enjoy reading!
you hear kirk let out another sigh across from you. for the past hour you've tried to ignore him. you know it's late, and you're both tired. but this report couldn't wait and it had an annoyingly long list of demands.
captain pike had apologised to you both when he assigned you the task, and he had asked the two of you to get it done as quickly as possible. so here you are, on the third night in a row, working on a report on the latest away mission and your findings.
because captain pike was needed aboard during the away mission, he had assigned spock to lead the mission. spock had beamed down to the surface of the planet along with la'an, kirk and yourself.
and because both spock and la'an were busy with their other duties, you and kirk had been assigned the boring - and time consuming - task of putting together the detailed report.
you hadn't really worked with kirk often. your paths didn't cross that much aboard enterprise. the only times you'd see him would be in the cafeteria, sometimes on the bridge or on an away mission.
a part of you actually thinks the most time you've spent with him is in your lab, working on the report.
at the end of the day, or rather, somewhere in the night, kirk would start sighing a lot to signal he was about down with it for the day. as he was doing now.
'you alright there, lieutenant?' you say.
he sighs again.
'we've been working on this report for the past three nights and you still call me lieutenant.' he says.
you don't look up from your work, even though you can feel his eyes on you.
'so? you are a lieutenant. as am I.'
'don't you think we're past ranks at this point? I've seen you trip over a fallen log and nearly break your nose during the away mission. also, the other day I saw you chug three coffees in a row.'
'fine.' you say, still looking at your work. 'but I'm not calling you james.'
'why not?' says kirk.
'it sounds too formal and I don't feel like it suits you. plus there was a james at the academy same time I was there and he was a real asshole. fucked me over a couple of times.'
'really?'
'yeah. got a middle name?'
'tiberius.'
you're silent as you finally lift your gaze to look him in the eye. he's got bags under his eyes, and his hair is slightly disheveled but he's still got a twinkle in his eyes. you're sure you look as tired as he does. except maybe without the twinkle in your eyes.
'you're serious? your middle name is tiberius?'
'yes, it was my grandfather's.'
'I am not calling you tiberius.'
you see how he frowns slightly.
'then what?' he says.
'you got any nicknames?' you ask.
'not really.'
'how about jim? short for james.'
'jim...' he says, contemplating it. 'yeah, sure. I actually like that.'
you smile at him. 'alright, jim.' you say. 'I want to finish this section of the report tonight, so I'm getting another coffee, want one as well?'
'yes, please. thanks, y/n.'
A/N: If you want to request something, make sure to read my house rulesHere’s the list of characters I write for. Everything that I have written can be found on my masterlist. Please don’t repost my work, as I spend much time and effort on it!! Thank you for reading! Much love, Max/Marit

White Christmas
12 Days of Christmas: Day 7
Plot: While staying with Chris for the holiday, you get your first white Christmas.
Pairing: Christopher Pike x Gn!Reader
Words: ~700; very short I know, sorry!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-
As you walked around Chris's kitchen, you felt your stomach grumble at the smell of the food cooking. You had come back to Chris's home on Earth for the Christmas leave. And you had decided to invite the others over for a pre-Christmas dinner, before they all did their own things for the vacation leave.
Spock, Una, La'an, Hemmer, M'Benga, Uhura, and Erica were all on their way. You and Chris danced around the kitchen together as you prepared the tables and food for their arrival. You had even gotten them each a gift for them to open after dinner.
As you finished setting the table, your eyes glanced up to the window, and you felt excitement jolt through you. As you ran over to the window, you caught Chris's attention.
"Are they here already?" He asked as he watched you.
"No, it's snowing!"
Chris smiled as he walked over to look out the window as well. "Yep, right on time" Looking over at you, he saw your excitement and he chuckled "Now, I know you've seen snow before."
You smiled "Yeah I have, but I've never had a white Christmas before. Do you think it will last?"
Chris nodded "Once it starts snowing out here, it often stays until Spring." You looked over at him and smiled brightly.
He smiled at your excitement and gently placing his hand on the back of your head. Pulling you closer, he pressed a kiss to your temple.
Looking at the clock, he smiled down at you "Wanna take a quick walk?"
You nodded gleefully before you quickly made your way to grab your coats. Chris smiled fondly at you as he took off his apron and followed.
As you made it outside, the snow began drifting quickly down from the sky. The sun was slowly being hidden by the heavy snow and clouds.
"It's already piling up!" You looked around at the ground, seeing the dirt and dead grass slowly being covered with a blanket of white.
Walking across the property with Chris, checking on the horses, and looking at the slowly freezing creak nearby. You stopped to stare out at the trees as the whole area started to look more like a winter wonderland.
"Catch!" You heard Chris yell, as you spun around.
As a small snowball smashed against your chest, you let out a startled gasp, followed by a laugh .
"Hey!" You yelled as you quickly reached down to scoop up some snow.
Throwing your own snowball at Chris, he quickly dodged it "Uh-oh." He joked as you began grabbing more.
As he started running up to you, you quickly threw another snowball, hitting him in the chest before he got to you.
Grabbing you, he held down your arms "Cease fire!" He yelled jokingly before you both stumbled backwards.
Falling to the ground with a yelp, you both began laughing.
Chris was lying over you, looking down at you "I know better than to start a war with you" He said with a chuckle.
You grinned up at him "As you should."
He smiled brightly as he gently began wiping away the flakes of snow landing on your face. He smiled adoringly down at you for a moment before he spoke.
"I'm glad you came here with me."
Your smile brightened "Me too."
Leaning down, he pressed a kiss to your lips, ignoring the cold that began soaking into your skin. Pulling away, he gently caressed your cheek with his gloved hand.
"This is our first Christmas together."
You smiled and nodded "Hopefully the first of many."
He smiled before pressing another quick kiss to your lips.
Hearing the distant roar of a shuttle approaching, both of you looked up, seeing one soaring over head towards the house. Chris looked down at you as you both remembered the dinner.
"Oh sh-" Jumping up, Chris grabbed your hands and pulled you up.
As you both began to race back towards the house, feet sinking into the deepening snow, you let out a laugh you couldn't contain.
You saw Chris grin from ahead of you as his hand stayed wrapped around yours.
xx End xx

BEING PROTECTIVE ON AN AWAY MISSION
Tumblr media
how protective the snw crew gets over you on away missions
CW: injured reader, gn! reader
CAST: chris pike, una chin-riley, spock, la'an, erica ortegas, nyota uhura, christine chapel
Tumblr media
CHRIS - showing favoritism has always been something of a challenge for chris. he tends to care too much, get over-protective, go the extra mile for his crew. he especially tries not to let his protective instincts take over when you’re involved - every member of his crew should be treated the same. though, chris has always carried his heart on his sleeve, and his constant surveillance is noticed by anybody who’s paying attention. he lowkey always tries to know where you are, what you’re doing, and who you’re with so if the worst case scenario happens, chris will have a plan. he really tries not to baby you, but…well, playing favorites goes out the window when it comes to your safety..
UNA - 9 times out of 10, she’s assigning you to her team, if she can help it. partnering up with you, and if she can’t, partnering you with somebody she trusts. checks in with you semi-frequently and doesn’t even try to disguise it as a sit-rep. nah, una doesn’t try to hide her intentions. she keeps things professional, and doesn’t let her feelings interfere with the mission (mostly) but she sees no reason to give you the cold shoulder and distract herself with worrying about you. she knows how quickly things can go sideways, and una is nothing if not effective - if you’re around her, she can get to you. it’s as simple as that.
SPOCK - vulcans don’t feel protective - that’s the line spock would give you. no, no, it’s in his and the crew’s best interest that you get back to enterprise as unharmed as possible. knowing spock, he has backup plans for his backup plans. if a hostile native population finds the away team or the weather takes a freak turn, spock takes it upon himself to find a way out of the situation. and it’s not that he doesn’t think you can do it - spock truly respects your abilities. but this way, if something goes wrong, it will be on him. any failure to keep you safe would be his fault, and he alone will be the one to atone. of course, you tell him he wouldn’t need to atone for anything, but vulcans can be pretty stubborn.
LA'AN - simultaneously the one who worries the most and shows it the least. but obviously, with everyone she’s lost, it makes sense that la’an goes the furthest mile when it comes to keeping you safe. somebody she holds so precious and dear, it would be her own damn fault if she allowed you to get hurt on some routine assignment. of course, la’an shoulders all of the responsibility of keeping you safe. she believes she’s the most capable in doing so, but la’an would definitely get caught up in her emotions and have to let the others help. but at that point, she would be so afraid for your safety, a bit of wounded pride is a small price to pay for getting you back in one piece.
ERICA - tries to keep her cool, but ends up demanding for captain pike to beam her down to the planet herself. what would she do down there? who knows, but it beats being glued to the helm and hoping you don’t get yourself killed. she absolutely inserts herself into the discussion of retrieving you and your team, throwing everything onto the table and not once stepping away. and when the best plan involved piloting a shuttle down without detection, pike would have had to stun her to keep erica onboard. but as soon as she sees you, the fear is gone - replaced with a wide grin and a cheeky “hey, you had us all worried!”
NYOTA - at this point, with everything she’s been through, it doesn’t come as a surprise when nyota stops you in the corridor on your way to the transporter room. she asks you to stay behind, let someone else go on an away mission for once, you don’t have to go every single time. you sympathize, even smile, and tell nyota to ask the captain if he’d let her come along. that way, she can be as protective as she wants while you still get your work done. with a scoff and a roll of her eyes, she tells you she’s being serious. you could get really hurt out there, and what would she do if she lost you? though, it’s hard to continue arguing when you take her hand and kiss her cheek - she really outta trust you more not to get yourself killed.
CHRISTINE - she’d been handling the stress and fear just fine until spock finally through the opening of the cave, dragging you with him like a half-drunk klingon. even in the lowlight and the occasional flash of lightning to see by, christine saw the blood leaking from your face and head. maybe it means she’s a bad nurse, but seeing you in such a state really pulled her focus away from the rest of the injured away teams. she pulled one of her peers over, letting them take over just so christine can patch you up herself. honestly, she doesn’t really trust anybody else to do it. her hands shake, heart pounds, but when you eventually peek open your eyes and mumble her name, christine starts mentally preparing a nice, long speech for captain pike on why you should never leave enterprise ever again.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Masterlist
Tumblr media
Hemmer:
Warning ( Hemmer x fem!reader): They had an agreement that everytime Chris sent a very attractive person to the counselor office, he would warn her beforehand. Apparently they have a different understanding of attractive
Ours (Hemmer x fem!reader): The usually composed Hemmer is not quite so composed when it comes to putting the finishing touches to their home
North Star (Hemmer x reader): The North Star is the brightest star in the constellation of the Little Bear. It shows sailors the way and gives them the reassurance that they are on the right course.
Warmth (Hemmer x fem!reader): She couldn't be sure if it was an Aenar thing or just a Hemmer thing but as pacifist as he was, just as stubborn and proud he could be.
Living Sanctuary ( Hemmer x fem!reader) : She never really learned anything about his home. Until one day she did.
La'an Noonien-Singh
Two Parts of a Whole ( La'an & fem!mute!reader): La'an's mute twin sister makes acquaintances with the crew of the Enterprise, even though La'an just wanted to have a nice, quite evening among them.

Okay so I had this wild idea... we've seen what a dinner at Chris's quarters looks like... how about a movie night with the crew?
Cuteeeeee!
Movie night with the crew includes:
Tumblr media
•well first and foremost, the movie night can’t begin until after dinner has been served and cleaned up from- Chris isn’t not going to feed his family. This Daddy makes sure his family eat well!
•but once that’s done the inevitable bickering over what to watch begins. Erica and La’an want to watch a Horror movie, Christine and Una want an action film, Dr M’Benga and Chris want a rom-com, and Spock is adamant that that what way to make use of this time is to watch a documentary…everyone groaned at Spock’s suggestion- it was the first one knocked out of the running.
•eventually a sort of truce- a sci-fi/apocalyptic show was chosen, an old Earth production called The Day of the Triffids.
•as soon as he read the synopsis Spock had deemed it ‘fascinating’, and everyone else had jumped on board!
•while Chris saw to making some popcorn, and Una dealt with pouring everyone a drink of whatever they’d asked for, the ‘kids’ all fought and bickered, even going so far as to physically move other people as they argued about seating.
•La’an and Spock were the first settled. They sat stiffly beside each other in the corner of the sofa…glaring at anyone who dared to come too close.
•Erica and Christine ended up squeezed together on a bean bag, crammed close and potentially closer to the screen than they should’ve been!
•as he settled in the arm chair Dr M’Benga joked that they’d both get ‘square eyes’ from sitting so close to the screen- something that humans apparently used to say. It tickled him a little.
•only once snacks were distributed, drinks were handed round, and Una was sat on an inflatable vintage armchair did Chris turn down the lights and set the screen playing- the surround sound was incredible!
•once the show was on no one talked- there were a few jumpy moments where Chris chuckled as his crew turned to each other for comfort.
•Erica and Christine ended up holding hands, Dr M’Benga was hiding behind his fingers and Una…well she wasn’t scared, she was scarily calm as she ate her popcorn, not in the least bit scared.
•as for Spock and La’an…Chris looked over at them and quickly looked away again. La’an was practically sat in Spock’s lap…Chris understood how why they were essentially sat in ‘the back row’. They were making out as Vulcan’s would- stroking their fingers together, their eyes weren’t even on the screen, they were locked onto each other’s.
•Chris sighed. Movie nights with the family were always an important part of his schedule, and even if two of them were necking in the back row, Chris was just glad to see them happy.

Exolvuntur Terror (Platonic Pike x Reader)
Tumblr media
Rating: PG-13 (Mild Gore)
Word Count: 1.9k
Content: Platonic/SFW, GN!Reader, Alien!Reader, Sciences!Reader, artificial time loops, trauma (metaphorical and literal), learning to have faith in yourself, very angsty much tragic, but!! also very hurt/comfort, Una being protective of her bestie, faceless entities with unknown desires SUCK!
Teaser: A selfish and malevolent entity has trapped Captain Pike's mind in a time loop of the Incident that will end his life as he knows it. Spock was badly wounded in the initial confrontation and cannot aid him. So it is up to you, an untrained telepath but a telepath nonetheless, to save him.
“I had to sedate him.” Chapel entered the briefing room, visibly anxious.
“The restraints weren’t doing enough. His muscles were reacting like he’s being thrown by something we can’t see. Delirious, unresponsive to external stimuli, I have never seen the Captain, anyone, like this before. And- and Spock-“ Christine’s voice caught in her throat.
“Spock, we know how to help, and he is stable for the time being. It is the Captain who we need to get sorted out now.” M’Benga reassured her, she took a seat at the table, holding down her distress.
It was very intimidating, you were the only one in the room who wasn’t senior staff, and chances were, knew the Captain the least.
“Whatever scenario these entities are putting the Captain through, it is repeating. Same emotional trauma response from the brain and pain response from his nervous system. Two minute intervals, the nerve reaction pattern suggests a radioactive explosion of some kind.”
“And the good news?” you asked, nervously.
“Luckily his body is not exhibiting the side effects of being irradiated, but his brain and nervous system are responding to the stimulus as though it were real. Like a circuit board, the human nervous system is only able to carry so much before it overloads. Not only that but the brain can only endure so much stress as well. If we don’t find a way to break this cycle soon. There may be very little of Chris left to save.” He finished grimly.
You swallowed hard “Wha- what do you need me to do?”
“We need you to go into his mind, find a way to stop it.” Una replied, deadly serious, every part of her was tense, her gaze, her posture. She was furious, like she’d burst into flame if she could.
“My telepathic abilities are limited sir, I don’t have the training-“
“We wouldn’t ask you if there were any other way.” Una insisted.
“How much risk is there to the Lieutenant? Push comes to shove, I’d rather not lose two officers in one day.” La’an inquired in a measured tone, she shared an intense glance with Number One as she did.
“I don’t know.” M’benga responded.
“There isn’t a single one of us in this room Chris wouldn’t be willing to take that risk for.” Una began.
“Sir, with all due respect you can’t ask-“ Chapel interjected on your behalf.
“I’ll do it.” You eased, quietly, almost involuntarily.
“What?” Half of the room said in unison.
“I… if I’m the only one that can help him. I can’t just… sit by and watch.” you groped for words, for courage “I need to do this, I think. If what you say is true.”
“It is.” the First Officer replied, the edge on her voice was gone, leaving something sentimental interlaced with her obvious concern.
You entered sickbay, coming upon the Captain, he was unconscious, but restless, stricken, white as a sheet, like he was in the throes of a nightmare.
“Help him, please.” The Commander begged.
“I’ll try, I promise I will.” You knew your voice and your body were shaking, but you were determined to see this through.
So you sat at the place made for you beside the biobed, placed your fingertips to the Captain’s temples
And dived.
Smoke, fire, screaming, there was a red alert blaring, metal plating creaked and glass began to crack.
“I got this!” Teenager’s voice, cadet by the looks of it.
“Get out of here! Go!!” There he was! Other cadets fled the scene, the glass continued to crack.
“I can fix it!” She yelled.
“Captain!” You yelled almost in unison with a boy on the other side of the containment field.
He looked up at you startled, good, you could contact him through his mental avatar in this vision.
“Leave it Cadet!” The glass shattered, the cadet was thrown backward, he was trying to drag her to safety.
You instinctively went to help him, but your hands phased through her, you were alien to this scenario, and to his mind.
“It’s Lieutenant Y/N! I’m here to get you out!”
“You- what? Lieutenant?! No, no this is not- you’re not supposed to be here. You have to go, now! It’s not safe!”
“Number One sent me here to save you!”
“What do you-?! But she-! Nevermind! You have to get out of here! That’s an order!”
“But-!”
“I said go!!” He grabbed you by the arm, he could grab you! He tossed you through the doorway into the crowd of panicking cadets.
The explosion consumed the chamber, he slammed against the wall, the burns were awful, he was reaching out for you, the cadets, but he couldn’t pass through the containment barrier.
But you could! You tried to reach for him, to take his hand, be of some comfort. It wasn’t fair-!
You were standing in front of the steps again.
“I got this!”
So this is where the loop starts. Good to know. You couldn’t let yourself get caught up in the moment.
“Captain Pike it’s me! I was sent here to save you, please listen to me!”
“No, no no no no! Una, she promised that she wouldn’t- Get out of here! Leave! Go!” He yelled back to the cadets, looking back at you again, a line of fury in his jaw.
“This isn’t happening right now, it’s not real!” You pleaded, taking his hands
“It will be! It has to be. You don’t understand, you can not save me. Spock is- the galaxy is at stake here!”
“I can fix it!” The girl yells.
“Leave it Cadet!” He jerked away from you, tending to the cadet as after she tumbles.
“I am not worth it, I am only one person. I promise you there is no other way, trust me I tried. Now please, just go!”
This time, the explosion consumes you both, you can only stand and watch from the center of the flames as his half burned body is flung against the wall again.
The loop restarts.
“HI! Before you ask I’m not from the past or future-“
Failure. Explosion. Restart.
“Una had nothing to do with this I promise-“
Failure. Explosion. Restart.
“What do you mean your fate is set in stone?! Nobody can know that-!”
Failure. Explosion. Restart.
Failure. Explosion. Restart.
Failure. Explosion. Restart.
Failure. Explosion. Restart.
Failure. Explosion. Restart.
Before the words “I got this.” left that stupid kid’s mouth, you put yourself face to face with the Captain. Grabbing him by the shoulders.
“Captain Christopher Pike! Please, hear me! You are going to die if you don’t listen to me! This nightmare that keeps playing in your head is going to eat you up inside until there is nothing left of your mind but this! You won’t be able to save Spock, save the galaxy, or whatever it is you think you’re doing if we keep doing this over and over and over, so please, please listen!”
There were tears streaming down your face now. You didn’t know what else to do, what else to say. You couldn’t make him believe you. You were so tired your metaphysical knees buckled for a moment.
Pike was staring at you, conflicted, anguished.
“I can’t-“ he started, his voice strained, desperate. Looking at the fiery chaos around him.
“-fix this!”
“No, you can’t, but I can. Watch this.”
The glass shattered, and you embraced him, blocking him from the blast with your own body. He began to return it
Then everything went dark.
Strange, the only manifestation of the vision that was able to affect you before was him. This didn’t seem like dying in a fiery blast though.
Pike was frozen in place, now you could phase through him and…
There was something else here, no, someone?
Alright, fine. You had removed the bullet, it was time to stop the bleeding.
“Leave him alone.” You said sternly “Whatever you want from him, whatever it is you’re looking for, it’s not here. I wouldn’t help you find it if I could.”
“Evidently not.” it replied coolly.
“Why would you, how could you do something like this?!” You asked, outraged, the anguish in your Captain’s eyes still burned into your mind.
“I sought to replicate a mineral which cannot be found in this plane of existence. But he is ignorant to it’s exact nature. Now, thanks to your interference, the tracking cycle is broken. He is of no more use to me.” The being stated plainly.
“What are you going to do to us?” You squeaked.
“Nothing. I intend to depart.”
“No wait! Don’t leave him like this!” You attempted to raise a psychic barrier to keep the entity from leaving.
“I have removed the cycle from his memory, but not it’s source, to do so would not only unravel your Captain’s limited perception, but would unravel time.”
“What does that mean?”
“I warn you only once, microbe. Do not inconvenience me again. Farewell.”
It clearly knew you weren’t strong enough to hold it here in Pike’s subconscious, you barely had the strength to stay yourself. It was time to go, who knew what would happen if you lost contact with your body here.
Slowly, achingly, the world beyond the Captain’s mind encroached upon you. Everything hurt, the crest of your brow and your fingertips burned, there were pins and needles down your spine, the muscles around and behind your eyes ached, you were drenched in sweat.
Never in your life had you ever engaged in mental contact like this before, especially not with a Human. Of course, his physiology was not accustomed to such interactions either. You cringed at the first degree burns and nail welts your hands left behind on his temples. But, it was a small price to pay for the Captain’s freedom.
Though you were exhausted, you had the psychic impression that the entity responsible had gone. You were certain you looked a mess, but Pike looked like death warmed over. Fear momentarily seized your chest before his eyes fluttered open. For a moment you’d feared the worst!
“What…?” Pike croaked “What happened?”
The Captain feebly tried to sit up, the restraints prevented it, too exhausted to bother with any further attempt.
“Ugh, feel like I got run over.” He griped, something you were certain was a woeful understatement.
“H- how much do you remember, sir?”
“Went down to the planet” he winced, “something, hit me, and then- wait, where’s Spock?” The Captain looked around, concern overriding the protests of his trembling body.
“Mr. Spock is gonna be fine sir, he’s recovering, just like you are.”
Pike sighed in relief, you didn’t want to distress him any further, but you had to know if the entity had kept it’s word.
“Anything else, sir?”
He furrowed his brow “No, not… really. Why am I-?”
“Restrained? Uh, well, whatever attacked you and Mr. Spock, there were hallucinations. You didn’t hurt anybody! They were more worried about you hurting yourself.”
“Oh, alright.” he half nodded, clearly fighting to stay awake.
“You should rest, sir.” you added, thinking it best to leave.
It hadn’t been a lie, but, it felt ugly. Wanting, maybe needing to hide things from the Captain, after everything. You’d discuss it with Dr. M’Benga first, divulge what was appropriate once the Captain was more stable, you told yourself. Best to debrief your superiors on what had transpired between you and the entity.
What did it mean by “Unravel time”, and what about “the source”? Had the entity drawn from something the Captain had seen before? If it had already occurred, how was he still here? Did it happen to someone else? Did he think it was Spock? Did the entity convince him he had traded places with him somehow?
Whatever it had meant, you hoped that for now, the Captain’s sleep was a nightmare-less one. For his sake, and for yours.
