#kayleigh day

can't stop thinking about Kayleigh Day. she moved to Japan for a sports management exchange program and made up a batshit insane sport. her best-friend was yakuza and apparently she had no clue. she was non-monogamous and had lovers all over the world. she had no family. she had kevin. she was fierce enough to spread exy internationally in half a decade. david wymack loved her more than she ever could love him. she became a legend but died before she could ensure women in exy were heard. the team spirit award is named after her. the best player in the world is her son. we know nothing of her but her name.

i forget every single time that Kayleigh was Irish thus so is Kevin and I just binged watched Derry girls- imagine Kevin having a Irish accent ( just imagine) and the reason he gets ignored a lot by Andrew is because that boy has no fucking idea what Kevin is saying; half the foxes don't it's hilarious to think about that like him yelling at everyone 😭✨

When Kevin starts growing out his hair, he thinks he looks like Riko.
He knows he and Riko look nothing alike, but it's the length -- a weird in-between stage of growth as he grows out the back of his hair to match the length of his bangs. Not long enough to tie up, but long enough to make his skin crawl. Kevin can't look at himself in the mirror for a long time until Andrew forces him into a chair and shows him ways to style his hair instead of letting it hang. He learns how to braid, though he's not good at it. So many of his teammates (read: Nicky, Dan, Allison, Matt) are more than willing to help.
Half a year later, when Kevin's hair finally touches a little past his shoulders, he can't help but think he looks like his mother. He starts styling his hair like she did -- styles he gathers from news articles, old photos, and memories. He uses a citrusy oil he remembers his mother enjoying. He tries to embody Kayleigh Day as if she's still here, and as long as Kevin lives, then she lives within him.

Do you think that if neil and kevins moms ever met before they died they just had immediate british v irish beef? Like they're in their twenties at the same mafia wedding sitting next to each other and spend all night coming up with more increasingly complicated ways to insult each other. Neil and kevins relationship could be genetic
The thought that Mary thought Kayleigh Day was a pretentious bitch and her son was obsessed with her son must have eaten her up inside. The moments after Neil meets Kevin and has to deal with him I am 100% sure that in this scenario Neil would just be thinking "Oh god mom was right. They're beautiful but JFC at what cost."
Anytime the two get into a spat the Foxes worry that 'international relations might boil over'

all i’m saying is, did Kayleigh Day really die?
we never did “see” a body after all. no proof from a trustworthy source, at least. sure, it’s on theme for the found family of assholes with no parental supervision whatsoever, but what if?
all i’m saying is, Kayleigh Day did not need to die, so did she really?
Tilda Minyard needed to die, because it was the only way to get her out of the way for good and to stop her from hurting Aaron. she needed to die because the twins needed to go to Nicky, and the twins needed an unforgivable rift thrown between them. and Andrew personally saw to that. confirmed kill #1.
Mary Hatford needed to die, because it was the only way to unleash Neil and push him in the Foxes’ arms. she needed to die because without her Neil is let loose, halfway there to freedom, and Andrew. she’s the trigger. and Neil personally witnessed her demise. confirmed kill #2.
Seth Gordon needed to die, because the Foxes had to come together. did he od by accident? on purpose? was there a certain mafia involved? we don’t know. but Wymack called, and the Foxes did go on without him, for the better. confirmed kill #3.
Drake Spear needed to die because he’s an evil monster piece of shit. Aaron personally got rid of the trash. confirmed kill #4.
Kengo Moriyama needed to die, because Riko Moriyama needed to die. and Ichirou needed to pull the trigger on the last one. Ichirou would never come into power were his father not dead for good. confirmed kill #5.
Nathan Wesninski needed to die, because Neil needed to be real, and free. Nathan needed to die because as long as he was alive, Neil couldn’t keep on living, could never stop running. Neil personally lived the moment he was set free by his uncle. even the FBI collected the leftover garbage. confirmed kill #6.
Riko Moriyama didn’t necessarily need to die, but he did. shot fast and true. karma came and collected, by the hand of Ichirou. confirmed kill #7.
what do all of these deaths have in common? trustful information. absolutely no gray area; done deal. also, major turning plot points unsolvable by anything else than death. none of the resolutions or conflicts work unless there is an absolute zero chance of the threat coming back. the story cannot progress if any of these characters comes back from the dead, and so the narrative makes it explicitly clear that each of them is cold turkey.
except Kayleigh Day. the only two nebulous circumstances surrounding death in the series are Seth’s and Kayleigh’s. both deaths are Moriyama-tainted. however, Seth’s case is unsolved because we’ll never know who really pulled the plug. Wymack, the only trustworthy reference, confirms Seth’s death without a shadow of a doubt.
Kayleigh’s death is reported by the Moriyamas.
Kayleigh needed to be removed, because Tetsuji and Riko needed Kevin for themselves.
Kayleigh’s death is the only “accident” in the series, outside of Seth, but as previously said, there’s reasonable doubt there too.
Kayleigh’s death is the only pre-canon death that does not show a body. Andrew took care of Tilda; Neil took care of Mary.
Kayleigh’s death is the only one reported by the enemy.
Kayleigh’s death is the only one not discussed in heavy details.
all clues point to the Moriyamas orchestrating her car accident, but what if it’s more? what if it goes as far as faking her death? what if she’s alive somewhere, sequestered? what if she’s alive somewhere, undercover?
as TKM ends, we witness the beginning of Tetsuji and the Raven empire’s fall, Nathan’s fall, and the Moriyama empire being reshaped by a new leader. but it stops before the repercussions unfold. before we actually get to see everything that entails, what other secrets, irrelevant to Neil’s journey, are waiting to come out.
what if the resurrection of the Mother of Exy is one of them?

I often wonder what finding out about Kevin must have done to Wymack's memory of Kayleigh.
It's very heartbreaking when I think about it. Because imagine you once loved this woman – romantically, yes, sometimes you are afraid that she was the love of your life and you're never going to feel like that again. But also, in a real way, you loved her because she sort of saved your life. Because your whole life you've fought to show that you're not a waste of space, that you're worth something, and then comes this woman and picks you out of a line-up and says you're right, you're special. She teaches you this sport she created, and through it, you know you are going to be able to make every last one of your dreams come true.
Eventually, you both realize she'll never love you the way you love her, but it's fine, because you'll always have the memories. She dies, not even a decade later, and you're devastated.
Imagine you spend twenty years grieving this woman. You fight tooth and nail to keep your place in the world she left behind, and you finally do it – you start a team for people like you, you handpick your players, and even if they fail on court, you know they just need one more chance.
And then one day her son knocks at your door, broken and desperate, and for the longest time you think that it was because of the name you've made for yourself, being a safe port in a storm. He reminds you of her in all the worst ways, but that's something you can force yourself to bear.
He brings trouble with him, and then he picks out a boy who brings even more, and just when you think you understand the mess your life has become, you find out what is the real reason why her son came to you.
Because this woman you've loved for more than twenty years, whose legacy you've built your life around, never saw you with the same consideration you gave her. No matter what Kayleigh's real motivations might have actually been, the truth is: she knew Kevin was his and she never gave Wymack the chance to decide what he wanted to do about it.
At best, Kayleigh thought she could make such an monumental decision for him, like she knew better than Wymack what was best for his own future. At worst, it shows how little she really thought of him, that she trusted Kevin to Tetsuji Moriyama, of all people in the world, before she trusted him to his own father.
And the thing is – she's dead. He's never going to find out why she did what she did. And suddenly, he can't even trust the memories he had of her anymore, he can't trust he ever really knew her. His entire life was built on something that might as well have been a lie, and he has to keep going anyway.

I got sad thinking about Wymack and Kayleigh being star-crossed lovers.
Their love was intense because they were on borrowed time, their memories lodt moments hidden of the rest of the world's eyes.
And Kevin, the only proof there was something once.

we all know and love neil’s exy binder, right?
if exy isn’t a super big sport, and neil is mainly following the ravens— specifically kevin day—
then i firmly believe that the majority of his articles pasted in are from weird tabloids he found in truck stop bathrooms and shady online fan forums he carefully printed off in school libraries
so within these articles several of them raise the question: who the fuck is kevin day’s daddy?
neil has pages dedicated to his theories
you think dan and phil shippers are bad? they have nothing on neil
he narrowed it down to three people, one of whom is david wymack
the real reason he ended up saying yes was because after seeing wymack and kevin interacting in the same room he mentally scratched the other two contestants off the list
when he's in the nest and jean shows him the letter he doesn't know how to act, because this is like a die hard phan-girl finding out their two-flat theory was right all along
