📂 Write a story from the perspective of someone who has woken up in a room or place they do not recognise.

This isn’t the first time that this has happened.

Ever since he was a young boy, Jean has been waking up in random places, or popping up in thin air in a completely different city. It was only slightly problematic getting back to Paris from Calais with no change, but eventually someone without a stick up their ass about mutants would give him a ride back home.

So, yeah- it’s safe to say that Jean is very much used to waking up in a bed that is not his own. Why would today be any different?

July 23rd- that was yesterday’s date. Jean rolls over in the bed that isn’t his and stares at the alarm clock on the bedside table. In tiny red font, it reads, “11:02am”. He groans, and climbs out of the soft, maroon bed sheets. The drapes over the window have already been pulled open and Jean makes it a point to look at the fountain and green lawn outside.

Must be the countryside, he thinks to himself. Definitely not Paris, anyway. Tiredly, he grabs a random pair of jeans off the back of the desk chair and has one leg in, when he hears the sound of laughter and running outside of the room. He pauses- that definitely didn’t sound like French. With the jeans now on, and his shirt passing as his normal clothes anyway, Jean heads to the door and pulls it open, glancing down the vintage hallway.

“…else we’ll miss seeing them! Hurry- it’s Wade!”

Now, Jean is no expert, but he's never heard of anybody called Wade in all his life in Paris. Could be an exchange student- perhaps he's in a university. Deciding to follow, he closes the door to the bedroom and makes it to the end of the hallway before another person meets him at the end. She stares. Jean tries to speak but she beats him to it.

“I’ve literally never seen you before.” She's not French, probably (again, Jean is no expert), and speaks in a perfectly fluent American accent. Jean gapes. “Everything okay? Wade’s here, wanna go say hi?”

Jean is so happy that he can speak English. “Who’s Wade?”

The girl laughs. “Good one. What’s your name, again?”

“Jean,” but that’s not important, “who are you? I’m sorry, but where the hell am I?”

The girl guffaws, as if offended, and doesn’t know what to say. “Wha-? You’re at the X-Mansion…I’m Sasha, you know, ‘Shadow Girl’? Don’t tell me you didn’t know that? Are- are you new, or something?”

The Fourth Crime Unit had always been a hot topic in the Shiganshina Police Headquarters. They were well known among the higher ups for their eccentric ways of working. They were equally well known between other units for their high success rate when it comes to solving cases. This was also the main reason why there wasn’t any rearrangement or disbanding of the team no matter how much trouble they would cause; the team was perfectly balanced. 

However, just a year ago, there was a slight change in the team. Levi Ackerman had been requested to come back to lead the team, taking over Erwin Smith’s position. 

Because of that, the Fourth Crime Unit had became an even hotter topic in the Shiganshina Police Headquarters.

It started with something simple.

“Have you heard about it? That unit is having a new head.”

“It’s Levi Ackerman right? That Levi?”

“Yeah! He used to be under Erwin Smith, wasn’t he?”

“But he resigned suddenly. I heard that before Doctor Zoe became one of the pathologists, she was under him too. It was a sudden arrangement too.”

“Wait, so Doctor Zoe was a detective too? How did she managed to change her career within such a short time?”

“It was said that she had a medical certificate but Erwin Smith probably pulled some strings again.”

“I wonder what happened—“

Mikasa cleared her throat on purposely which managed to get the attention of the two women who were walking and gossiping really loudly. It took a few seconds for the two women to process that Mikasa was part of the unit they’re gossiping about. Mikasa’s deadly cold stare was enough to show that she had heard everything they’d said.

“I’m sorry!” The both of them squeaked at the same time and scurried away.

“Bye!” Sasha how as beside Mikasa shouted and waved in an exaggerated manner. When they were out of sight, she rolled her eyes. “It seems like we are one of the main gossips again.”
