#jason todd's white hair

Text
Jason found the first strand of white in his hair when he was 15. He didn't bring it up to Bruce; he dyes his hair anyway, and Bruce was mad at him so why bring up something as stupid as grey hairs? He forgot about it. He goes to Ethiopia. And we all know the rest.
Talia is brushing his hair, wondering if he is even really aware of what she is doing, when she finds a few stands of white in his crown. Over the next few months, Jason makes very few improvements. He does little more than look out his window and fuss like a child younger than his years. But he seems to recognise some people: a couple of friendly servants who tend to him the most, Talia, and the little boy trailing silently behind her. His patch of white grows as he does. Slowly but steadily. Ra's tells Talia Jason is a waste of time, resources. But Talia has plans for the boy.
Jason looks at his face reflected in the river beneath him. Really looks at it. It had been 6 months since the Pit, nearly a year since he came back from the dead. A year of puberty had changed him significantly, the Pit seemingly allowing him to grow past three years of desperate hunger and missed milestones. Despite the deep scars that warp and twist his face, his teachers call him young and childish when referring to his appearance (and his attitide), but Jason sees how much he has changed. The shape of his nose, the width of his jaw, his once strawberry-blonde hair has darkened, the curls not as tight as they were. His shoulders are much more broad than he remembers, and he realised last week that he must be almost Dick's height tall for his age now. But what his eyes linger on is the patch of white pushed back from his sweaty forehead. He has a vague memory of a single white hair, of not wanting to tell Bruce finding it important at the time. The single strand has grown into a patch almost the width of his thumb, some strands spread further from the main streak, almost giving it a faded-out look. His teacher calls for him and he turns away from his reflection. What he looks like is unimportant, he has plans to enact.
Bruce looks at the child young man across him, helmet off and pain open to the cold Gotham air. The scars that run from chin to temple are deep, and Bruce remembers the way that part of his child's face hung on by a thread, soot settling into the no longer bleeding flesh and the crevices between his exposed teeth. He remembers what it looked like when it was sewn up; Bruce had opted for a closed-casket funeral in the end, unable to look at his boy's mutilated face, the way his freckles contrasted against his pale skin, never to flush or tan or sunburn again. What he also remembers is finding a lone strand of white hair in his son's curly bangs weeks prior, not wanting to bring it up lest he upset the boy. Willis was grey at the temples in his mugshot, and he was only 27, and Sheila bleached her hair to hide her own salt and pepper strands despite being only 35. His boy had earned a few premature grey hairs, after everything he had been through, but a 15 year old boy might not feel the same way, and Bruce did not want to damage Jason's confidence. The strand had grown in his absence, now bright and obvious in the dim lighting. Bruce's hands shook as he plucked a batarang from his belt. His hands never shook, and so he didn't notice when they shook as he took aim at the barrel of the gun. He should have noticed how they shook.

As fun as the aesthetic of the autopsy scar is I am very much team “the Lazarus pit left Jason with no scars” because of the subtle body horror of it all. To go through a trauma so great that you did not survive it, so great that you look in the mirror and expect to see a mangled corpse, only to find that you are entirely uninjured? That’s body horror. Not only that but every other mark of the life you lived is gone, no physical proof that anything has ever happened to you. The mind is scarred but the body does not remember

The HC of Danny’s hair gaining white streaks but with him being in Gotham.
He keeps dyeing it back to solid black, because he doesn’t want to attract attention by resembling a rouge or vigilante. He has to touch up the roots every 3 weeks so absolutely no one knows.
At some point Danny ends up running out of dye and his roots start to show through so he makes an emergency stop out of his usual way to pick up more dye.
Danny ends up literally bumping into a man that sets off a light version of his ghosts in the hair dye isle, he hadn’t run into anyone that set it off in Gotham yet and ends up having no idea how to react. After a few minutes of uncomfortable staring and silence Danny just awkwardly asks the guy the first thing that came to his mind, basically asking the guy if he’s buying dye to cover up the evidence of his death too.
Jason is now panicking because this scrawny kid just:
1. Thinks Jason died (the kid is right, but he shouldn’t know that)
2. Admitted/thinks that he died (the kid either did die or thinks he did, both are concerning for very different reasons)
3. Has evidence of white in his hair just like Jason (the kids eyes are blue, so his bungee jump back from death’s probably not related to the pit. Hopefully)
And 4. looks like someone Bruce would kidnap off the street and put in a colorful costume (probably the most worrying. The kid looked like a strong wind would blow him over, he wouldn’t make it as a bat or bird)

Across My Memories
......
.....
-hums Once Upon a December-
Ghost Prince!Jason.
..... ghost prince!Jason where when Jason died instead of waking up in his own door room (headcanon doors are private rooms all ghosts gain once dead, its their safe spot, rooms can expand into lairs if the ghost gets strong enough) he wakes up in the Ghost King gardens.
He's found and taken to (older) King Danny who takes one look at the newborn baby ghost, (verbally) rips into his guards for manhandling a baby, and offers Jason a place to stay while they try to locate his room so he can recover and stable his core. (That's why ghosts stay in their rooms upon being made until they're strong enough to leave and venture out, Jason is advised not to run off since they have no idea where his room is and Danny being King of the Realm can basically substitute the ectoplasm needed to stable him just by being around Jason)
Over time and Jason slowly learning to trust Danny, Danny starts treating Jason unknowingly like a son and Jason slowly sees Danny as another dad (only less emotionally constipated (Bruce) or abusive (Willis))
Everyone in the Kingdom knows it too, but since Danny hasn't made it official they don't call Jason 'Prince' or 'Young Master' instead they call him 'Favored Star' and 'Starlight' since Danny adores space and stars and the Ghosts honor Jason with those title's.
They realize that they've been treating each other as family when Jazz comes to visit and points it out. Danny freaks out for a moment before going to talk to Jason, whose been hoarding himself in the royal library. They talk, Jason freaks a bit (maybe runs off trying to figure out his own emotions over it. Doesn't want to get hurt again by a 'father figure' again, maybe gets in trouble? Or runs into Jazz and talks about it to her)
Eventually Danny decides to make it official and Jason becomes Prince Jason of the Infinite Realms. Everyone is excited, and a huge ball is thrown in Jason’s honor. Its a night Jason keeps close to his core because once the ball is over, Danny and Jason go sneaking into the kitchens to get some hot coco and goes into Danny’s study where Jason reads his favorite book out loud next to the fireplace while Danny works on some paperwork but is listening to the story.
Anyways since time in the Realms is weird that despite being dead for a small few years in the living Realm, Jason feels like many more years have passed in the Infinite Realm and because he’s been around Danny (and is Prince of the Realms) he has grown older (its why when he’s brought back he looked like the way he did when he died but was comatose, his ghost/soul didn’t match the body anymore and it isn’t until he’s tossed in the Pits that it corrects his body to match who he was now, its also why the Pit Madness stays with him for so long) Jason has grown into his role as a Prince and he’s happy with his (after)life (and has come to terms with many things in his life, thanks Auntie Jazz)
So when one day the Prince goes completely missing, to the point he can no longer be felt in its Realms, the Infinite Realm ‘awakens’ to the rage and worry of their King.
Meanwhile, Jason awakens underground in his coffin, dazed, confused, scared and crawls out of the ground, his soul/ghost despite being in its body isn’t attached correctly and thus his mind is blank, he’s alive but not really there. It isn’t until later when he’s tossed in the Pits and rage overtakes him that his soul/ghost is connected again, wrongly put together but connected at least. It isn’t until later when his core slowly tries fixing the rage/Pit Madness when he starts getting fuzzy and hazy memories of someplace he can no longer remember but wants to go back to, wants to find.
A sky of shifting shades of green, a castle with knights, a ball and dancing figures, the sound of a fireplace crackling and a pen scrawling across paper as the taste of hot coco phantoms its way in his memories.

I LOVE BATMAN OKAY??? And we as a society do not talk about Bruce "Brucie" Wayne enough. Who else is doing it like him? Zero braincell himbo of a persona. Would give a cashier $300 in tip. And he's Batman. Never seen a man with more care, heart, hope, and inability to do anything half-assed. He's givin' a hundred percent or nothing. Man of an expanding number of kids? He's literally a single mom. PEAK!
