Imagine Jacob Seed being good with kids because he had to raise his brothers.

I'm talking about when they're tiny bitty babies still.

He gets really stressed out if the baby starts crying, the sound just immediately brings him back to the hell of being tiny and taking care of Joseph's newborn colicky self. So Jacob keeps the baby with him at all times, always within reach. He's regimented about it too, keeps the strict feeding/sleeping schedule, that baby is well taken care of. You can often find Jacob carrying the baby around while he does other things. He circles around the room, reading paperwork in one hand, carrying baby in the other.

The moment they start talking, he starts having trouble. Having opinions means arguments to him. Good luck and godspeed to him when they get past 2 or 3 years.

He's good at providing for his kids when they're older. Keeping them fed, clean, and at least modestly educated. (especially in military history and tactics) But he definitely misses the simplicity of taking care of a baby's needs. He also didn't have to worry about them as much when they were tiny, the moment they could move out of his sight he has been worried nonstop. But hey, that's love. Nothing you can do about that.

You sat on Jacobs lap near the edge of the bed in your shared room. It was one of those rare moments alone you had with Jacob where the two of you could just spend time together.

You quietly read a book that was placed in your lap as Jacob read over your shoulder, tapping your thigh every time he finished a page so you knew when to turn to the next one. You smiled when you felt his lips grace your shoulders and leaned back, snuggling into him deeper. He grabbed your chin gently and made you face him. You could see adoration in his eyes as he stared at you, relishing in the moment for a while before slowly leaning in to plant a kiss on your lips. You reciprocated his affection, adjusting your body a bit more to allow yourself to kiss him fully. You hummed which turned into a small chuckle before pulling away from him.

“Wait here.”

Getting up, you went near your dresser and searched over the array of objects you’d had placed on top, smiling a bit wider when you found what you were looking for.

Your mint flavored chapstick.

Skipping back towards your loving boyfriend you sat right back on his lap facing him, causing him to adjust his arms to hold you close. You clicked off the lid of your chapstick, holding it in your palm as you used one of your hands to hold his face. He raised an eyebrow at you as he saw the pointed chapstick in your hand. “Lemme put some on you.” You told him after seeing his confusion. “Why?” He asked, and you let a nose laugh escape you. “Because your lips,” you poked them with your finger, “they’re chapped.” You quirked your brow at him. “No offense,” you quickly added and felt his body jolt in a silent laugh. He shook his head in amusement before leaning back slightly. You took the silence that followed as a sign that you could continue with your plan. So, you grabbed his face again, digging your fingers into his beard slightly and brought your other hand up to apply the chapstick. You made four smooth swipes across his top and bottom lip. “Ok now go like this,” you rubbed your lips together and watched as he copied your movements.

You smiled and he stopped, ”So,” He started, his voice dropping into a raspy whisper “am I kissable now?” He asked as he pulled you impossibly closer to his body. You shifted your position so that you were straddling him and placed both of your hands on either sides of his face. “Yes, yes you are.” He smirked and leaned in to kiss you. Just one quick soft kiss followed by another and another until he grabbed the back of your head and kissed you with more passion. You relished in the feeling of his newly soft-ish lips before pulling away, smacking your own lips together you licked them and hummed.

“Minty.”

Some sad jacob headcanons because I’m feeling evil

- Has trouble eating. Will regularly starve for a few days at a time (until Joseph forces him to eat) because everything he puts in his mouth stirs up intrusive thoughts about Miller. Also the smell of cooked meat makes him feel anxious and queasy (which is why he gives his prisoners raw meat).

- Only You was the song his mother used to sing to him when he was little, before she got too unwell. She’d always sing it to him after his dad’s outbursts in order to soothe him. Now he uses the music box to soothe himself because she’s not around to do it for him.

- He keeps a bunch of classic childrens books and reads them repeatedly with great interest because he was never allowed to read them as a kid. Thoroughly enjoys them, and keeps them proudly on a shelf in his bedroom. His favourite is the Brambly Hedge series because it’s all about a loving community and it brings him peace.

- After he enlisted in the military, he wanted to send his first wage packet to John to show that he could finally care for him. He tried to find out where John was living, but was turned away due to confidentiality. He tried to hold onto the money for as long as possible in the hopes that he’d find John one day, but gave up hope and ended up spending it on a last ditch attempt at treatment.

- Would have loved to have had a kid, but spent his life absolutely terrified of passing down his father’s nastiness and abuse, thinking that it was something he himself carried in his genes, so he always abstained from ever getting close enough to anyone to start a family.

- Has to sleep with a light on because the dark makes him feel unsafe. Also can’t fall asleep without music because he feels too alone in the silence and it reminds him of the lonely quiet of the desert during those first nights after Miller was gone.

Most think John swears the most but that's a lie, it's him. Whenever Joseph isn't around he'll throw a "fuck this" every now and then

Tends to fight with Joseph. They always fought back and forth. As kids it was about how Joseph wouldn't 'man up'. Now it's about how he treats John, not knowing Joseph's been manipulating him to stay this whole time too

So in the past I hc that he's gay, I feel he struggles to come to terms with that. To this day he still is under the impression that it's wrong and makes him look soft, so he still tries to act like he doesn't

Rants to the judges. He is waits until he knows he's alone with the alpha of the pack and just dumps everything he has in his mind. That dog knows things no one else knows

His friendship with Eli in the past was a good one. It reminded him too much of his friendship with Miller (minus the possible secret romance part). They had similar inside jokes, Eli playfully punched him the same way Miller did. He hated it. He still hates it

Jacob is much more of a listener than a talker but prefers surrounding himself with people who talk a lot

Joseph Seed

Joseph doesn't hate John. He's hard on John so he learns. Johns become their father in Joseph's eyes and is making sure to shape him up. However he doesn't realize how terrible he's being to him as he does so.

His biggest fear is being alone. To combat that he almost subconsciously manipulates people to stay with him. He doesn't want to hurt them, but if he doesn't they'll leave. He'll be alone again

As a child Joseph wanted to be an author. He had notebooks filled with vibrant stories he made up in his head. Once a teenager though he found an interest in baking. Him and his wife's date nights consisted of them playing music as they tried a random recipe they found. It was a piece of happiness he never had as a child. They wanted to save money and open a bakery together. Still, to this day, Joseph gathers ingredients on Friday nights and bakes.

Has a heavy preference for Jacob. The man was with him the longest, helped him the most. It isn't that he doesn't love John, but he's detached. John wasn't there as long as Jacob was. John was raised by different people.

He hates winter. Winter was when Faith taken from him. He won't enter any vehicle. He won't go outside much. He hates it.

Puts everyone before himself. He could have not eaten at all that day but he will still be sure to make sure everyone else has. He will forget to eat unless someone else tells him to

His favorite song is Little Lies by Fleetwood Mac and whenever he hears it he gets a boost of happiness. He knows every word.

I don't care what anyone says, I think he's shockingly the worst with kids. He can't handle the tantrums, they stress him out. He doesn't yell or hit but he completely shuts down and won't really react

Doesn't put his hair down often. He sleeps with it down but beyond that? It's always up. Usually in a bun, but sometimes he'll go ponytail.

When angry he tends to quietly glare. He tells from time to time yeah, but he more often will glare at whoever upset him. A look that basically says 'you know what you did'

Hes actually much more of an introvert than people may think. He doesn't like being alone but that doesn't make him an extrovert. His idea on a relaxing day is sitting in a room with his brothers where they all do their own thing but they don't speak much. Comfortable silence. The idea that they're there makes him happy, and the fact that they can indulge in their own hobbies without judgment makes him even happier

John Seed

Much more of a talker than a listener. This makes him and Jacob a good pairing since he would talk a lot and Jacob would smile and listen.

He despises fast food. He tried it once and declared it as the grossest thing to every touch his mouth. He's also definitely the pickiest eater in general. He hates most seafood, broccoli, brussel sprouts, fast food, pizza if it's too greasy, chicken if there's too much tendon, the flavor of mashed potatoes and steak together but he'll eat it on separate occasions. He was picky as a kid and he's still picky as an adult

Actually needs glasses but will not wear them. Luckily he has contacts. However one time he lost one and had to wear his glasses and his chosen were staring at him confused. He needed them since he was little but he never got the appointment when he was with his brothers. Jacob did notice him squinting a lot. Joseph only had glasses because he got his prescription years ago (but they should've been renewed)

He went to religious schools from second grade onward. I'm talking the ones with uniforms and all your teachers are nuns. There's so many pictures of little John with one of those school uniforms and dorky glasses and a big smile.

Speaking of which I believe he was the cutest kid out of all of them. He had big ol doe eyes and got excited over everything. Joseph and Jacob used to call him sunshine when he was young because no matter how miserable and dark the world was around him he always was a happy little boy. He was bright, loving, innocent. An absolute sweetheart in his youth. He was the kid that waved to strangers on the street, his go to form of affection was hugs, and he comforted his brothers when they were upset despite not understanding why they were even upset.

The Duncan's viewed Johns innocent nature as why he was a tainted soul. He didn't understand accountability and the idea that not everyone was good confused him. They had to teach him. Besides, the Duncan's weren't too good themselves.

His adoptive parents were Henry and Amelia Duncan. They adopted John due to Amelia's infertility. John was the youngest there and was promising so they chose him not knowing they were taking a broken boy and breaking him beyond recognition. Johns obvious mental illness also made them feel he needed to be shaped. They were the type of people that thought praying could solve everything. John barely saw doctors, he never got therapy, and when they found out their son was bisexual they threatened to send him away.

However, Henry's mother: Evelyn loved John for who he is was. Accepted her little grandson. Henry's family was large, the man having four brothers and a sister. John was the baby, all of his newly adopted cousins being older than him. Not a lot of them were good, John wasn't even that good, but Evelyn had a clear preference for John, always calling him her angel. (I have too many Duncan hcs I'll stop there)

Johns behavior first began to plumiit near his sophomore year of high-school. He got a stick and poke tattoo when he was too young to have one from a friend. It did get infected but that was fine for him. It was a taste of freedom. A taste of freedom he never had in the past. He wanted a taste of the freedom of adulthood and was willing to rush his adolescence to get that. By the time he was a senior the little angel people knew and loved died, and in his place was a cold hearted snake that lacked any form of remorse for what he did. All he cared for was his own amusement.

As a boy he drew a lot, he quickly discovered art was something he enjoyed. He drew pictures of him and his brothers, but when he lived in Atlanta their faces started to become blurry. Were Joseph's eyes blue or were they green? Who was taller, Joseph or Jacob? What didn't help was the Duncan's wanted every aspect of Johns life before them to not exist. They tried convincing him that they weren't his family and that they hated him. They made him go into speech therapy to force his rural accent to go away. They didn't adopt a son, they adopted a pet.

I'll do a little softer one for the end: Johns secretly a bit of a hopeless romantic. He's always been fond of the idea of romance. He loves cheesy rom-coms, he reads romance books. All of it. Hes well aware that a romantic relationship is something he'll never have, but it doesn't hurt to wish for one. He falls too quickly, but then gets scared when he has to be vulnerable. He has issues, he's not a good person. His issues will scare everyone away. He has no chance. A part of him envies his brothers: Joseph for having a marriage and Jacob for clearly not being interested in romance at all. But some nights, he doesn't care. He'll grab a DVD player and watch his silly little romantic comedy movies (or say yes to the dress if he's feeling something dramatic) and will eat half a bag of gummy bears

Replaying Far Cry 5 again I noticed something about Jacob and Joseph. The second time meeting Jacob, Joseph is there and when he leans in, hands outstretched and wanting to cup Jacob's face like he does with John before touching their foreheads together Jacob stops him for a second. Before Joseph can touch him he janks Joseph's arms down to touch his shoulders instead and holds them there until they let go.

People who are smarter and not as tired as I am right now I would be pleased to hear your theories. I actually just wanted to re-watch the scene because I want to look at Joseph but I noticed that.

I could share my works in progress and all the the things i'm working on related to those things or I can throw out cute headcannons and I think I have a preference so here are all the cute sleepy headcannons I've got

Heralds Sleepy Headcannons

John gets whiney when he's sleepy. Borderline nonsensical in speech as he gets more tired, his voice goes up a little bit and his old southern accent starts to slip out. Once actually convinced to go to bed, he isn't exactly a peaceful sleeper. He tosses and turns a little bit unless he's holding something (or someone) and he mumbles in his sleep. He can and will get mad at you about something you did in his dream.

How Jacob sleeps is entirely dependent on whether or not someone reads to him or helps soothe him to sleep. He refuses to admit he's tired if he's in the middle of doing something, but it takes a while to catch the little warning signs of his for when he's gone too long between siestas. He talks less, stares off into space, kind of agitated. Generally though, unlike John, he doesn't need to be convinced to go to bed. He's actually an adult about his sleep schedule, mainly because he's learned to value every second of sleep he gets. When soothed, he sleeps like a log, unmoving and peaceful. He snores, but its not very loud. Its more like a low rumbling you can't really hear unless you lay your head on his chest. Left to his own sleep care, he thrashes in his sleep. He mumbles borderline incoherent statements about whatever nightmare is plaguing him, and his prone to sleep walking. He's been a sleep walker since he was little, but it got better as he got older, only to return full force once his time in the service was over. Their mother use to say he was a "walker and a screamer," so at least he doesn't scream anymore. It is very rare that during a nightmare he ever gets physically violent or acts out the actions in his dreams, but it has happened before. As such, he's very hesitant to let people around him when he's tired or near him when he's sleeping.

Joseph sleeps flat on his back with his arms crossed over his chest. Always has. Everyone thinks its weird, but he doesn't get it. He also sleeps fully clothed, which he also doesn't understand why people say is weird. His visions often plague him in his sleep, so he does actively sleep talk. It is rather common for people who sleep in the same room as him to be able to have complete conversations with him while he's asleep, only for him to not remember them when he wakes up. When sleeping in a bed with someone else, he prefers to be the little spoon.

Faith is a very light sleeper, something she attributes to her "sinful past." Every small noise from the creak of a floorboard to someone she breathing differently than normal wakes her. Once woken up, she has a very difficult time going back to sleep. Fortunately for her, Bliss tends to make people very sleepy. She's a professional napper at this point. Sleeping through the night might not be easy but there's plenty of quiet, secluded places to get an hour or two throughout the day. Generally a rather fidgety person, the only time she's ever truly still is when she's asleep.

Sharky snores like a freight train. Saws logs like nobody's business. Very avid cuddler, but if he's holding you when he falls asleep? Good luck getting out of that death grip, babe.

Pastor Jerome sleep preaches. He mumbles whatever sermon he was planning before bed in his sleep. He thinks people are joking when they tell him about it. They really aren't.

Kim swears up and down that Nick snores loud enough to send her to the couch most nights. He claims this is blasphemy. She laughs about it.

If you thought Adelaide was loud when she's awake, you should try sleeping in a house with her. While her snoring is sporadic, it is very loud. Xander will try to convince you it's cute.

Why do you think the deputy allowed John, Joseph and Jacob touch them, but backed away when Faith attempted to hold their hands?

I have answer but it’s not super thought out but-

I think it comes down to the fact that either

A: The Deputy doesn’t trust Faith actually being real and present in that scene, doesn’t want to touch her to find out. After all, the Deputy frequently hallucinates different animals and enemies in the Henbane… You touch it, it might be something else.

B: Faiths attempt at touch was manipulative. Not to say the others weren’t but after the fight scene and she attempts to reach out, it’s almost like she was saying “yes it was fucked up, but I’m forgiven now, right?”. Which the Deputy clearly rejects because well, no, it’s not forgiven.

With the brothers the reason their touch is allowed is because they weren’t going back on what they believed in. They still defended Joseph and the Project even in death. They weren’t trying to beg for forgiveness. In a weird way I think the Deputy felt safer in that respect, in a sense of “yeah I think you’re wrong and a monster but I know it’s over for you now.” They weren’t pulling any tricks. When it was over for them you knew. With Faith it’s tricky.

Remember, while you’re fighting Faith, she throws Joseph under the bus with “he plied me with drugs, I was 17”. Is that true? Who knows. Could be. Consensus says yes, I’m inclined to believer her but she quickly turned on a guy she claimed to be her saviour.

Maybe loyalty is important to the Deputy, more so than we thought.

This was longer than I expected haha, and I’m on mobile so sorry for any mistakes. And I apologise if doesn’t make much sense I’m not always the best at explaining :)

Random Jacob Seed Headcanons

off the cuff, not checked, all in good fun.

Jacob Seed can actually carry a tune, but his voice is really gravelly and the only time he's ever sung in front of another person was when he was really drunk during his military days. He can also play the piano (was taught by another cultist, when the cult was in its early days.)

Jacob is really bad at being a handyman, cannot even construct ikea furniture. I'm sorry to disappoint everybody. Poor man just... can't. He is, however, good at basic car maintenance, so at least someone can change the oil for you if you need. He'll even grumpily teach you how to do it yourself.

Jacob hates sitting still, he can't sit still. He carries a clipboard around for paperwork purposes because he can't sit at his desk for more than an hour unless its for reviewing tactical reports.

He gets in manic moods, similar to his brothers. He will pace around any room he's in for hours either muttering to himself as he makes plans or he'll make extreme eye contact with whoever is with him and he'll monologue about anything that's racing through his head. Exercise is the only thing that can stave it off for a while. He also has depressive episodes.

He talks about his time in the military a lot. Honestly, for a kid like him, military service was a lifesaver that saved him from self destructing when he was fresh out of juvie. Food, his own bed, knowing when it was time to relax vs time to move? 'Made him strong'

If you are in a relationship with him, he can, and will pick you up at random. Unsuspecting, you'll think you're safe, you are not. He excuses it by saying he's testing your "awareness of your surroundings"

He refuses to admit he loves soft affection. Hand holding, bringing him easy food to eat, playing with his hair, reminding him to stretch when he's working. He's never had that, it feels alien to him at first but he gets used to it and gets a little mournful when you're not around.

Sticks to the schedule, no matter what. Come hell or high water, he will stick to his routine if it kills him.

Needs to feel useful and necessary, if he finds out about stuff happening without his knowledge and you didnt ask if he wanted to join or help (moving boxes, heavy lifting of any kind, manly maintenance work, etc.) he gets a little antsy and refuses to admit he's dejected.

Basically a big dog who wants to be necessary, please help him. Let him carry heavy objects for you. Let him fuck up ikea furniture construction. His love language is straight up acts of service.
