Has anyone else noticed how the citizens of Hope County seem to mainly treat John like a nuisance? Like they are TERRIFIED of Jacob and Joseph and they fear Faith. But John seems like he’s more just an annoying fly at the picnic. Poor John tries so hard to be intimidating and most everyone’s gut reaction is annoyance rather than fear

This year marks the fifth anniversary of one of my favourite games of all time, Far Cry 5. This game is an absolute comfort, and I always find myself returning to it. I know Hope County like the back of my hand, but it always manages to surprise me.

Over the years I’ve created and recreated a number of props and other items from the game, and I see myself continuing to do so for years to come.

Weirdly specific things I think would win you resistance points in farcry 5

Calling any of the brothers a little meow meow (especially John)

Hacking outpost speakers to play baby shark on loop

Talking over any of them or repeating what they say mockingly as they monologue

Befriending a judge

Getting John wet, this could be anything from trying to baptize him to spraying him in the face with a super soaker

Spraying Jacob with Febreze

Flashing any of their security cameras

Graffitiing cult trucks with hot pink spray paint

Making a your mom joke at any of them (especially Joseph)

Getting hot sauce or bbq sauce on Faith’s dress

Making a ligma joke at John

John

His hands seem almost permanently cold, a little clammy too. They shake on their own, like the weight of the entire world is on his shoulders. His hands are delicate but have constant small tears around the cuticles.

Joseph

Cold at the fingertips, warm at the palms. The dichotomy is confusing, you flinch before finding comfort. His hands, like his personality, are always infuriatingly steady unless you catch him looking into the eyes of the woman tattooed on his forearm. His hands are scarred from years of hard work, but have healed time and time again

Faith

Warm. Bigger than you expected, more calloused than you expected too. Her hand on your shoulder feels more like a command than a question. They seem to float around her when she walks. She pulls people to walk with her, ever forward, she needs them not to doubt her.

Jacob

His hands don’t feel like anything at all. Room temperature. Not cold, not hot, just neutral. But the weight of it tells you all you need to know. Theyre calloused but surprisingly gentle. You know those hands could easily lift you off the ground and throw you. Even with all that gentleness the feeling they evoke is that you’re trapped between the jaws of a large animal.

I love how Conservatives look at Far Cry 5 and all they see is the glory and seeming necessity of having guns. Like guns were totally the key to success there.

It shows that they either didn’t play the game, or they played through the entire game and didn’t get it through their thick skulls that guns didn’t do shit for the citizens of Hope County. They were a rural community with seemingly unrestricted and unlimited access to firearms and ammunition and until The Deputy showed up to start kicking ass, they were losing pretty badly against Eden’s Gate.

There was even a literal organized militia up in the mountains and if it weren’t for The Deputy they would’ve been crushed. Tell me again how Far Cry 5 is sending the message that guns are going to save you in this scenario. All those guns, all that ammo, all those weapons in general and Hope County still couldn’t get Eden’s Gate to fuck off.

They had all the access in the world and yet if you liberate a cult outpost on hard mode, they get reclaimed by the cult of you don’t keep kicking ass.

So if the gun nuts want to use Far Cry 5 as an example that they’re right, well they should use a better argument. Because what I saw was a bunch of citizens who had all the access in the world and still had to rely on this one dude to fix their shit. I know it’s just a game and all that, but it’s a game that gets a bad reputation because of the idiots who pick and choose which elements fit their narrative.
