#jace whatever his surname is now
Note
Welcome to ✨what made me laugh this morning while making the Julian moodboard✨ :
Tumblr media
Saw "son of thorns" and fully went
Well of fucking course??? His surname is literally blackthorn? Seelie bitch needs to be a bit more creative😟
Lmaooooo this is making me think about the post I made a while ago about how Julian gets called "son of thorns" and Cristina gets called "daughter of roses" or "lady of roses" or whatever and I was like well clearly Emma's has to be "daughter of stairs" and the notes of that post are how I found out that Carstairs actually means like fortified castle 💀 and I was like oh 💀 but my point still stands cause I think it was hilarious
Whenever anyone turns up in the seelie court now I just want the seelie queen to keep up with this level of none effort for naming them
Seelie queen: hello, son of herons
Jace: what?
Seelie queen: and I see you brought the daughter of children here too
Clary: well that's weird-
Seelie queen: is the son of wood with you?
Alec: oh now come on
Like yes let's drag her for this I love that this was your thought process Ele 😂😂

Do any of the Descendants kids have any actual last names? If you know, can you list them?
Any canonical last names? Well, let me see.
For the VKs:
Carlos de Vil
Dizzy Tremaine
Anthony Tremaine
Celia Facilier
Freddie Facilier
Sammy Smee
Squeaky Smee
Squirmy Smee
Claudine Frollo
Rick Ratcliffe
Clay Clayton
Harriet Hook
Harry Hook
CJ Hook
Gil LeGume, technically, (and his older brothers the Gaston twins) if you go by Gaston's original surname in the first draft of Beauty and the Beast.
Diego de Vil
Mad Maddy would be Maddy Mim, no?
Harold "Harry" Badun
Jason "Jace" Badun
Ginny Gothel
Hermie Bing
LeFou Deux
And now for the AKs:
Audrey Rose
Chad Charming
Li Lonnie
Ruby Fitzherbert
Anxelin Fitzherbert
Ariana Rose
Carina Potts
....and I think that's it. There are no other canonical surnames. There are far fewer canonical surnames for the AKs than VKs, probably for the simple reason that the first Isle book named a lot more VKs than there were ever named AKs. Of course, there are many popular headcanons-Triskelion for Uma's surname, something sounding like "Beast" for Ben's surname, whatever the title is for the royal family of Agrabah for Aziz's surname, and if you go by the theory that Mama Odie is Dr. Facilier's mother, than Facilier for Opal's surname. But that's it.

I just read your theory and I THOUGHT THAT COULD HAPPEN, TOO. Sadly now that I rethink it, I find it highly unlikely (brace yourself because this could be a rant).
Technically speaking, Matthew and Cordelia could have sex, and Cordelia could get pregnant. It is true that physically-wise their potential child could gather the tmi! Fairchild characteristics. But, there are a couple things that just don't seem right to me.
Firstly, Cordelia has shown little to no interest in having a romantic relationship with Matthew. Since pre-chog we've seen her pinning for James, and the feeling has not being subdued; and even if she'd someone gotten over her crush on James, she's been pretty explicit in how she only sees Matthew as a friend.
Next problem is James. Right now we know that Cordelia is his One True Love™ (sponsored by Herondales Love But Once), so if he gets together with someone, that person can't be anyone but Cordelia*. And the Herondale line can only continue with him.
Obviously Cordelia could get pregnant with Matthew's child while in Paris, still be with James and then have children with him. That wouldn't necessarily be an issue in TLH's timeline, but would ruin tmi since it would directly signify clace are related. Cc already had that drama and won't repeat it.
For this reason I think that James and Cordelia's marriage will stick, the two will have their happy ever after after the drama with Lilith is done with, and bla bla bla. Whatever.
The question as to how the Fairchild line continues is very tricky.
I'm almost 100% sure that Charles won't be a father: he's gay and has exhausted his reservoir of prospective wives. My dude isn't important enough to get another woman he won't even love (I'm fairly certain that his character arc will just be him coming to accept how toxic he was to Alastair, and being single and happy. Or the consul, who knows).
Matthew, on the other hand, could get married --have that marriage mean something other than convenience-- and thus be Clary's ancestor. That's why trapped-in-Faerie-until-twp! Matthew and vampire!Matthew don't really make sense.
In a 900+ pages book (+ novella he'll most likely be the protagonist of) he can easily find a nice girl (in Paris? Effie~? Okay, I'm joking) and fall in love with her. Or at least meet someone he could be with in a future in which his alcoholism has been taken care of.
Matthew has other possibilities of love. Cordelia and James hardly have any that doesn't involve the other.
Obviously cc can have Charlotte have another child, but I'm pretty sure she'll already do that with baby Carstairs, and possibly with the Lightwoods and Alexander (Thomas won't have biological children, neither can Anna, Eugenia's child will have the father's surnames, and I can't see Kit with children even if he marries Grace).
(this is probably very random and we've never talked before, but I wanted to rant?)
*Grace and him do create Jace's physical characteristics, but there's no way in hell he's going to get back together with the woman that both: controlled him for years and whom he never actually loved.
I mean, this was a valid rant lmfaoooooooo.
I mean, my theory is just a theory at the end of the day lol. See, let's assume Clary is the direct offspring of Matthew and Cordelia, and Jace is the direct offspring of James.
We have no 100% guarantee that Cordelia is gonna be the mom of James' kids, right now at least. That is the assumption my Cordelia -> Clary theory is based on.
But what we 100% agree on is that Jordelia are in love and are endgame, that I'm sure about.

Herondale
ao3 link
Rating: General Audiences  Warnings: None  Ship: TWI!Clace  Tags: Family Drama, Revelations
Written for @shadowhunterbingo. Square filled: Java Jace
Summary: In every universe, the truth will out.
~oOo~
‘Michael lied to me.’
It’s the first thing Jace says when Clary gets home that evening, and it stops her in her tracks. ‘What?’ ‘He lied to me. My whole life.’ Jace’s voice is low, quiet – dangerous, her mind supplies, though she’s never had reason to think of her boyfriend like that before. She sets her satchel down on the nearest chair, and cautiously, warily steps closer. ‘You mean your dad, right? What did he do?’ she asks as gently as she can. Jace barks out a short, sharp laugh that’s even more frightening than his strange tone of voice. ‘That’s just it. He’s not my dad.’
Clary’s mind short-circuits a little, wrapping itself around that. ‘What?’ Jace pushes up to his feet, starting to pace the same way he does whenever he gets agitated – though if this is what it sounds like (and she doesn’t know what else it could be, just – how could it be this?), Clary doesn’t think a night out with her and Simon is going to soothe it better this time. Oblivious to her thoughts, Jace continues his tirade. ‘Yeah. Turns out I’m adopted, which would be just fine except one, it was illegal, and two, he didn’t bother mentioning it until I was twenty-fucking-five.’ He laughs again, though it’s a lot more strained this time. ‘My original surname was Herondale, by the way. Which I now know, because about five seconds before he told me all of the other stuff, he introduced this lady called Imogen. My grandmother. Who, until now, apparently thought I’d died along with my mom in childbirth – god, it’s like a fucking soap opera, how the fuck am I supposed to –’
‘Jace.’ She interrupts him, then, because this is quickly spiraling out from a vent into a panic attack, and that’s the last thing he needs right now. She stands in front of him, reaching up to his shoulders, tracing up to his neck and cradling him there. ‘Breathe, okay? It’s a lot, I hear that. But you’re okay. I’m here, we’re safe at home, everything’s gonna be okay. Just – just take a breath, and tell me the rest when you’re ready, and we’ll deal with it together, okay?’
His hands come up to latch onto hers, and he closes his eyes, taking slow, deliberate breaths.
A minute or so later, he looks back up at her. ‘I don’t know what’s gonna happen, Clar,’ he murmurs, and his eyes are shiny, his jaw tight. ‘I mean, I’m an adult, you know? It’s not like she can sue for custody. But she’s – she’s so pissed, and she has every right to be, she was my next of kin and he took me from her. And I’m pissed too, but –’ he takes a deep, shuddering breath – ‘but he’s my dad,’ he whispers, his voice breaking over the word. ‘I don’t want him to – to go to prison, or anything. I just… don’t know what to do.’
But Clary knows what to do, and so she does. She guides him over to the couch, gently presses him into taking a seat. She grabs the water bottle from her bag and holds it out to him. She sits back against the couch herself, until she can topple him back into her arms and hold on tight. Only then does she speak – and it’s not the maybe you could do x, maybe your dad has y, maybe your grandmother is z that springs to mind – it’s something short, simple. ‘When are you seeing them next? Either of them?’ she amends.
Jace sighs, leaning heavily against her. ‘I’m supposed to be meeting Imogen again tomorrow morning. Apparently, she wants to get to know me.’ Clary nods. ‘Alright. Why don’t you ask y- Michael to come too? And I’ll come along, if you want, or Simon could – or my dad, even, I’m sure he’d help you out. Sit them down, make sure there’s someone there in your corner, and have everyone talk it out like grown-ups. Then, whatever happens, you’ll at least know your next move, right?’
He seems to consider it for a moment, and then he nods. ‘You’re right,’ he murmurs. He looks back up at her, and the softness in his eyes makes her heart ache. ‘I have no idea how I got so lucky, you know that? I don’t know what I’d do without you, babe.’
Clary smiles at him, and presses a kiss to the top of his head. ‘You’ll never have to find out,’ she promises.

Ghosts of the Shadow Market Commentary pt. 7
The Land I Lost:
- This is the only story I already read (I got the audiobook narrated by the gorgeous Melissa Fumero)so I already know a little. Can’t wait to revisit it tho
- Alec Lightwood Is fulled by love for Magnus and spite. You gotta respect a petty gay
- Max with his sailor outfit! I just want to hug him and never let go
- “All the demins” cutie!
- The Lightwood-banes Will be the death of me
- Elyaas, the comic relief demon is my favorite character (am I joking? You’ll never know)
- Wait? What’s up with thomas? What happened with him?
- They are so domestic! Kill me
- I still hate that Jace and clary are the heads of the institute, but whatever
- Elliott’s speech about immortality is really beautiful
- As much as I love Lily, I do think her obsession with Raphael is weird. I get her attraction was unrequited but it gets creepy at times
- Oops. I forgot Jace was still there. If only he’d take the hint
- Lily and I share the same disdain for Jace and that’s very sexy of us
- My biggest stupidest pet peeve in this series is how the international Shadowhunter names don’t follow the pattern of the English ones. Like, it’s established that Shadowhunter names are pretty much two words conjoined together, like Lightwood or Fairchild. Meanwhile, we have Rosales, Mendoza, Romero, etc! those are just regular surnames! Idk! It just really bothers me!
- Alec Lightwood being a feminist icon. That’s it. That’s the tweet
- We have to stan a guy who uses his privileges to do what’s right for minorities
- * Starts quoting Shakespeare uncontrollably *
- Alec remembering events from trsom sends me to oblivion
- Ugh! Horace Dearborn
- Alec and Lily’s brotp makes me weak! I love their dynamic
- Shadowhunters and their superiority complex
- I like that it wasn’t a cute little meeting between Alec and Rafael. It wasn’t an instant connection like Max. I enjoy that they grew to like one another
- I wish there wasn’t so much emphasis on the whole lineage thing. I get why it’s done but it still perpetuates the idea of bloodlines being way too important in comparison to found families
- Who’s the clown who’s gonna cry with Lily’s backstory again? This bish right here
- Does that mean Lily shows up in TLH? Now I’m really excited for chog
- That Alec/Raphael parallel tho
- I don’t remember. Does Irina Cartwright die in the future? If not, she should. What a fucking bitch
- I love Jem, but I hate the way jem talks. All the “deep stuff” he says are so cringy!
- Clary x Alec x Tacos are my ot3
- I love babies! I really do! But having babies doesn’t complete you! You don’t have to have a child to feel whole!
- Peanut butter and jem sandwiches are the best indeed! Lily cracks me up
- I FINALLY CONNECTED THE DOTS! I’m an idiot
- Side note: Auraline is a beautiful name
- Alec drinks gallons of respect women juice and that’s very sexy of him. We stan a feminist
- Perhaps boludo could be our always (I’m dumb)
- The Juliet and Joaquin side romance is cute, not gonna lie
- Characters with Poor face recognition is the representation we needed
- Unapologetically gay Alec is the best version of Alec
- I imagine that tapestry looking like the one Phil has of Hercules in the Disney movie.
- Robert Lightwood made me emotional guys, what do I do?
- Malec never loses and never will, bitches! Mark my words! We never lose!

i know i said i wasn’t going to have anymore discourse about why the whole “shipping Theron with Force-sensitives is bad/problematic/unhealthy etc.” thing is stupid to me but Being Good At Video Game always feeds my ego and i’m right about everything /j
anyway
here are my two big problems with that sentiment
1. People have misinterpreted Theron’s relationship with his lack of Force-sensitivity (and they keep bringing up that quote from Lost Suns and it’s driving me batshit crazy). Yes, it is canonical per the comics that Theron feels bad that he isn’t Force-sensitive. But Lost Suns takes place before Shadow of Revan, and when we see him in Shadow of Revan, it’s still a sore topic of discussion, but the issue isn’t “I’m not Force-sensitive and that makes me feel bad about myself”, it’s “people keep comparing me to the people who created me--but did not raise me--and acting like I was supposed to follow in their footsteps”.
Theron even says in the cantina (pubside) that he’s happy of where he ended up. He thinks he’s done well for himself (and he has!), and though there’s some bitterness in his tone when he says he didn’t have the Force, that’s the most of what you hear about it: just residual disappointment. If Theron really was still so hung up about not being Force-sensitive and not liking reminders of what he doesn’t have, why would he have expressed a positive opinion about being in the SIS? Like, he’s surprisingly open to discussing that with you, even as a Jedi PC, for a guy that supposedly is still hung up about being Force-blind (spoiler alert: he’s not.)
But the conflict we see in SOR between Theron and other Force-sensitives is not “I’m bitter about not being Force-sensitive” it’s “wow! I wish people would stop treating me like I’m less capable or a disappointment because I can’t use the Force! Or expecting me to be like my mom!” By the time of SOR, Theron has accepted he’s not Force-sensitive, and he’s made peace with it.
Like... don’t you think how kind of telling it was that Satele gave her son to Ngani Zho? Now, I don’t blame Satele for how Theron’s life turned out at all, and I respect her decision to not raise Theron (just as I respect Theron’s right to feel abandoned by her), but... consciously or not, she gave her son to another Jedi to raise. Right from his birth, Theron was expected to be a Jedi like his mother. And because he wasn’t Force-sensitive, the man who raised him abandoned him to find out out from someone else, and he didn’t know his mother or father for years.
Theron’s lack of Force-sensitivity is not the problem, it’s the effect that lack of Force-sensitivity had on his relationships with his family. It’s the expectation that he’d be like his mother, and so he was raised as such, and when it turned out that he wouldn’t be like her, the man who raised him for his entire life up until that point abandoned him.
If Theron had been raised by Jace, and he was sent to the Jedi thinking he might be Force-sensitive, only to return when it was revealed he wasn’t, it’d still hurt, but Theron would have his father to raise him. Jace wouldn’t abandon him just because his son is Force-blind. And I think Theron would’ve reacted to that whole situation very differently.
Theron’s resentment at not being Force-sensitivity is not the root, it is a comorbidity of the primary issue: everyone, especially Satele, set him out on the path of a Jedi and just assumed he’d be Force-sensitive. Theron accepts not being Force-sensitive, but that doesn’t fix the root issue: his relationship with his family.
If you write your Theron and Jedi pairing where they encounter these preconceived notions of the other (for the Jedi, it’d probably be like “Theron would be like his mom” and for Theron, it’d be “this Jedi might be like my mom or Ngani Zho and not see my worth as my own person”) and challenge those expectations (yknow... like I did with Hyroh and him), there really isn’t any issue? Sure, there’s an extra step before Theron can have a relationship with a Jedi, but do you really think that’s all that different from say Imperial Agent x Theron, which people act like is So Much Better just because the Imp Agent isn’t a Jedi or Force-sensitive?
(also i find it fucking bizarre people will go “b.. but... Jedi x Theron is... t-t-toxic” and then turn around and completely uncritically act like Theron and Lana are best friends. Last time I checked, Jedi PCs don’t completely betray Theron’s trust--something that is INTEGRAL to his arc--by allowing him to be kidnapped, and then also suggest experimenting on a woman that has just had all autonomy ripped away from her and been horribly traumatized by said experience.)
2. If you explore Theron’s potential platonic friendships with other characters (besides Lana), you sidestep the other legitimate issues that would arise in a Jedi-Theron pairing. Because while I do think Theron has accepted not being Force-sensitive, I don’t think talking to his Jedi partner about how he felt abandoned by his mom and the Jedi Order is as constructive as it would be if he were to have that conversation with another Force-blind person. Like... fun fact... but romantic partners do not need to be there for you on EVERY issue, and should not be expected to. Your romantic partner is not your soulmate, and there are experiences they will not be able to relate to or help you with. This is why Koth and Theron, either romantically or platonically, is SO GOOD, because Koth has NO preconceived notions of what Theron “should’ve been” because the surname “Shan” means absolutely nothing to him.
To use Hyroh as an example again: they don’t really talk all that much about Theron’s past with the Jedi Order. Hyroh does understand the experience of feeling abandoned by the Jedi and the Republic, but that scenario was COMPLETELY different from Theron’s. Hyroh can comfort him with snuggles and kisses, but Theron isn’t going to get the specific reassurance he’s looking for in that situation from a Jedi. That’s why it’s so important to give Theron friends! And believe me, there is SO MUCH POTENTIAL with Theron and Koth.
Even friendships without Cool Parallels or whatever. Here’s a list of non Force-sensitive and non-Jedi characters I think Theron could’ve had great or just.. GOOD friendships with:
Koth
Vette
Mako
Senya
T7 (yes! I’m saying it! They could’ve been BUDDIES!)
Theron with a JK or a JC can be great, y’all are just cowards /j

I’ve had a lot of spare time on my hands recently between the nervous breakdowns and not working and I’ve been feeling super inspired by this fandom.  I’ve been creeping through art tags and doing little writing exercises/drabbles inspired by different sketch dumps and fan art I’ve loved, and sometimes they’re okay enough to post.
The first one I’ll share is inspired by this post by @roninreverie of Resistance-era Jacen trying to recruit some new pilots for the cause.  Hera is furious.
Thank you so much to @roninreverie for letting me gush over her work and share this little ficlet.
--
The Recruitment Holo (1538 Words, no beta)
Hera is still seething after her rant at Jacen when the hatch to her cabin hisses shut behind her.
She has always considered herself to be a good parent, even when things weren’t easy.  And there were plenty of times across not one, but two galactic wars, when being Jacen’s mother was the furthest thing from easy.  At the very least, she was an attentive parent, opting more often than not to carry her small son on her hip to everything from command briefings to X-Wing pilot training exercises. When it simply wasn’t safe to take her child with her, Sabine or Zeb would always outrank the other eager pilots who were more than willing to take a shift to watch General Syndulla’s son, and they’d travel from multiple systems to do it. Jacen had a wider support system than any child she knew, which is why his latest stunt was so kriffing stupid that Hera has to take stock in where things had gone so wrong.
She is glad she retreated to her cabin to calm down before confronting Poe Dameron, and then Lando Calrissian, both of whom Hera is absolutely positive had some influence in Jacen’s little filmmaking project.  A few weeks back during a fairly grim briefing, Hera noted how dire their pilot situation was becoming - she recalled the early days of the Rebellion when finding cells to band together to defeat the Empire was daunting, stressful work.  She never dreamed she’d have to do it twice in her lifetime, and the Resistance desperately needed pilots.
“We’ll figure it out, mom,”  Jacen had said confidently that evening at dinner,  “I can take Chop and the Phantom for a recruiting spin if we’re really that hard up?”
Her son is an adult now, a handsome, charming, talented pilot of an adult.  He inherited all of the best parts of Kanan, his bravery, his tactical mind, his good looks (for better or worse, Hera was learning), and the parts of Hera she’s most proud of, her love of the skies, her kindness and her determination and loyalty.  But Hera still has a hard time letting him off world without her nearby.  The all-encompassing devastation of the loss of Kanan never fades, and Hera is positive she can’t handle losing Jacen, too.
Hera almost wishes she’d let him take the Phantom instead of finding him half naked, taking recruitment matters into his own hands in front of a holo-vid recorder.
Hera Syndulla was going to kill Poe Dameron with her own ungloved hands, and Lando Calrissian, for good measure.
“Some tactician Jacen is, Kanan,” Hera mutters to the empty cabin before flopping back on her bunk,  “Though I meant what I said - you probably would have done the same, and I’d have been run ragged training every sentient being who saw your holo-vid to become a pilot for the Rebellion.  I just thought he was smarter than that.”
Kanan was a master at finding solutions. There’s always another way, he’d say, and his blue-green eyes would flash with delight as he unwound a solution to whatever narrow odds the Spectres found themselves in.  Jacen inherited Kanan’s drive, those same problem solving skills that will make him an asset to the Resistance.  She just wishes for her sanity, that he hadn’t also inherited Kanan’s relentless flirtatiousness, that handsome smile and that talent for charming his way out of every tight situation.  Truly, he was Kanan Jarrus’ boy.
Hera’s mind drifts back to Gorse, so many years ago now, and how the secondhand embarrassment radiated from her when she heard the story of how Kanan had asked an Imperial captain over the Expedient’s com what she was wearing.   She remembers how easy it was to play to his flirtatious nature to all but steal his Moonglow ID badge from around his neck.  And she remembers how willing he was to follow her around - even after she explained she could investigate Vidian on her own - because he thought there was a chance of a physical reward at the end.  Kanan had fallen into a lot of unnecessary danger because of his attitude and his libido, and while they’d both escaped mostly unscathed (and of course that mission led to the best years of Hera’s life) the recklessness of that time in Gorse could have been fatal to anyone but a Jedi.
She sometimes feels the Force still lingering in the Ghost, she likes to imagine it wrapping itself around Jacen for protection.  But her son has not shown any particular sensitivity to it, and she’s almost positive that won’t materialize now to protect him in such dire situations.
Hera would not let Jacen make the same mistakes.  There is truly no safety net for him.
But he’s going to make mistakes, Hera,  she can hear Kanan’s voice in her mind.  Sometimes in the most challenging moments of being a single parent, Hera can feel Kanan there with her, standing silently behind her as she doles out a punishment to their son or tries to impart some hard-learned wisdom to keep him out of trouble.
It’s just so hard that he isn’t actually there.  And it never gets any easier.
Hera swings her legs off her bunk and pulls a change of clothes.  She wants to speak to Jacen as mom, not as General Syndulla, and that means a quick change into leggings and a long tunic.  She wraps her lekku in a soft scarf and slips out of her cabin down the hall towards his.
Kanan’s.
Hera knocks on the hatch and she can hear his footfalls headed towards the entryway as the doors slide open.
“Mom, I feel bad enough, I don’t need another lecture -- and before you say anything it wasn’t Poe, it was my own idea, we saw an old holo of Lando and he shouldn’t be in trouble for something he had nothing to--”
“Can I come in?”  she interrupts, asking permission to enter a bunk in her own ship.
He steps aside and lets her pass.  He shuffles back to sit on the edge of the mattress and scrubs his hands through his mop of green hair.  Hera sinks to the ground and crosses her legs, facing her son.
“You’re better than that stunt, Jacen,” she says softly, no anger in her voice this time.  “You’re more talented, more creative and far smarter than relying on your body to do something your brain can do just fine.”
He doesn’t say anything, she knows he’s embarrassed.  Not just at being caught, but at the fact that her own reputation could have been affected by something so stupid, so reckless.
“Your dad,” she goes on, and it hurts, sitting in this room and talking about Kanan, but she pushes through the tightening of her throat, the pain that never leaves, because this is more important than her own comfort, “Your dad didn’t have it so easy when he was your age.  He did a lot of stupid things too.  I was there for some of them, and I was mad at him then.  But he experienced loss and fear and anger that I don’t think I ever could fully understand.  If we, “ and Jacen knows she means the Spectres, his family, even the ones he never met, “if we weren’t there to help your father… I don’t know what would have become of him, really.
“I’m here to help you, Jacen.  I’m here to help you see past a short term gain and think smarter.  What kind of pilots did you really think you were going to recruit that way?  Think more strategically, more long term.  Think like the Jarrus and Syndulla you are.”
Jacen knows she’s serious when his father’s surname enters the conversation.  His elbows are propped on his knees and his head hangs, and she can all but feel the tension and tightness in his shoulders and back.  He doesn’t raise his eyes to meet his mothers, and it breaks Hera’s heart that her son is upset, but she knows he hears her. She slides a little closer to her boy, and slips a hand under his chin, raising his face to hers.  “I love you, Jace.  I want you to help me find more pilots, but we’re going to do it the right way.”
He nods and she kisses his cheek.  “Tomorrow we’ll take the Phantom.  I have some intel on a small group that might be worth looking into.”
“Alright,”  he says, and she can see a little more light coming into his eyes at the promise of taking to the skies, “I’ll fly?”
Hera rolls her eyes, but smiles.  “Sure,”  she agrees and stands, and cards her fingers through his hair affectionately as she heads back towards the door.  “But we’re leaving early, so don’t waste your whole night on the holonet.  I won’t hesitate to leave you behind and take Chopper instead.”  The threat is empty, but it makes him smile.
“I love you, mom,” says her son, and Hera feels a surge of warmth in her stomach.
“I love you too, Jace.”
Good work, Hera, she hears Kanan’s voice and slips out of the cabin before the loss threatens to hit her again.
Poe Dameron and Lando Calrissian will live another cycle.

FIC: Smoke and Mirrors - Chapter 3
Title: Smoke and Mirrors Fandom: SWTOR Pairing: Theron Shan/f!Jedi Knight Rating: T Genre: Pre-Relationship, Slow Burn Synopsis: Something’s rotten on Carrick Station, and Theron won’t rest until he finds out what. But picking at the frayed threads of suspicion quickly unravels a conspiracy much larger than even the Republic’s top spy can handle on his own. (A mostly canon-compliant retelling of the Forged Alliances storyline, as seen through the eyes of Theron Shan.) Author’s Notes and Spoilers: See Chapter 1.
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Crossposted to AO3 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5 | Chapter 6
Tumblr media
He’d gone with Shield, because of course he had. His reservations about that gap in the file were mostly just suspicions, and it was hard to ignore the fact that the woman described in the file seemed ridiculously capable. Now, if only he could wipe that knowing grin off of Jace’s face.
“Thought you might go with her,” the older man rumbled, tone entirely too smug.
“It was a numbers game,” Theron muttered, “one Cross of Glory recipient versus an entire ship full."
“Of course.” His father sounded anything but convinced, and then sobered some as a large man decked out in SpecOps armor entered the office. “Ah, just in time. Theron Shan, meet Rian Darok.”
Darok shook Theron’s hand with an almost bone breaking grip. The colonel practically towered over the SIS Agent, and actually even had a few centimeters over Jace which seemed like an accomplishment in itself. Dark brows narrowed in contemplation, and Theron got the distinct impression that he was being sized up in some way. He returned the scrutiny with a tight-lipped smile.
“Always a pleasure to work with the SIS,” Darok said, “Agent Shan.”
The emphasis placed on his surname made Theron abort the handshake and take a step back to reclaim his personal space. “Yes, well, we all try to do our part, Colonel.”
“Interesting last name.”
“Not really. It’s pretty common according to the last Republic census.” Theron let his gaze briefly slip over to Jace, but the older man had already drifted over to the large holo-table across the room with a projection of a dogfight over a large planet and wasn’t paying attention to their conversation.
“Common among Jedi too.”
“Wouldn’t know much about that, seeing as I carry a blaster and not a lightsaber,” Theron bit back, letting his irritation bleed into his tone.
“Sure,” Darok said, seeming to let the subject drop.
They joined Jace over at the holo-table, and upon closer inspection Theron could see that it was a representation of Korriban and a simulation of the patrol schedule. A frown played across the Supreme Commander’s face as he watched the simulation. The Harrower-class dreadnought passed through the planetary orbit, before heading out to continue its patrol of the system. Displayed on the map, the opening was now glaringly obvious. Theron watched as holograms of an entire squadron, including a Hammerhead, some Thranta-class corvettes, and several of BT-7 Thunderclap ships come out of hyperspace and then immediately start the bombardment. As soon as they entered the atmosphere a second wave of ships jumped in, following the path they carved to the surface. It was a risky maneuver, and one that required perfect timing to pull off.
Theron was starting to feel lucky that he only had to recruit one individual rather than pick out the pilots for this operation. Darok stalked by, glaring at the holo-table as if it had personally insulted him as the simulation switched from the orbital view to the planetary view. The gaps in their intelligence were more glaring here, as several crude representations of the Academy’s layout filled the holo.
Apparently Jace picked up on the tension between his two leads on the operation, because Theron felt a nudge to his shoulder. “Is there a problem?”
His father had intentionally pitched his voice low, so only Theron could hear. If he thought about it for more than two galactic seconds, the prodding on his genealogy wasn’t that big of a deal. And it shouldn’t have rankled so much that the first thing people thought of when hearing the name “Shan” was “Jedi”.
“I want a codename,” he muttered petulantly. “Can you work on that?”
“How about ‘Theron Malcom’?”
“No,” he said flatly. “Never mind. You don’t get to make codenames.”
“Why not?”
“Because it needs to be covert.” And not lame. “Like Zerosum.”
“Must be in the genes. I’m rescinding your permission to name things as well.” Theron wrinkled his nose, but Jace turned his attention back to the other man in the room before another snarky response could be made. “Colonel, is there an issue with the holo-table?”
“No sir,” Darok said curtly, “just reviewing every angle to make sure we haven’t missed anything.”
“Have we?”
“A name to attach to our second wave. Seems like an important part of the operation.”
Jace motioned to Theron, who crossed his arms as he met Darok’s even stare. “Jedi Master Greyias Highwind.”
He used the actual name on the file, partially for name recognition, but also because it was unclear if the colonel had clearance to know the identities of the Coruscant Aegis. Darok’s stony expression faltered for a moment, a brief look of curiosity stealing across it before the frown fixed itself back into place. “The Hero of Tython? That seems a little high-profile for a covert operation.”
“She can do the job,” Theron shot back, “and none of this is exactly groundbreaking territory for her from her file.”
“Her file? She hasn’t been read in yet?”
“I was waiting for final authorization before spilling the beans on our little party.”
“You have it,” Jace cut in. “Do what you need to pull her in. We need our best on this, gentlemen, understood?”
From his tone, it was clear the Supreme Commander was talking about more than the Jedi in question, an unstated order for both of them to work out whatever issues they had for the good of the mission. Darok gave his commanding officer a curt nod, and Theron acknowledged it as well with a tight bob of his head. He didn’t have to like Darok to work with him.
“I suggest we move this operation to Carrick Station. It will be easier to coordinate and gather my forces for the assault.” Darok spared a glance across the table. “Hopefully Master Highwind will decide to join us there.”
“She’ll be there,” Theron promised, “don’t worry about that.”
“That’s good to hear.” Jace crossed his arms. “Just remember that our window of opportunity to pull this off will close if we wait too long.”
“Don’t worry, sir, my team will be ready.”
“So will mine,” Theron tossed back.
“Then I’ll leave this in your capable hands, gentlemen. If all goes well, the next time we meet we’ll be toasting to the end of the Empire.”
As Jace turned away, both Theron and Darok shifted their positions, sizing each other up. The colonel resting his sizable fists on his hips, Theron crossing his arms as he glared up at the taller man.
“I guess we’ll see if you can get our guest of honor to show up on such short notice.”
“You worry about the logistics of your own men, Colonel,” Theron said coolly. “I can handle wrangling one little Jedi Knight.”

Shadowhunters ep4 review & spoilers! And general spoilers! (Later ships & Simon things)
Magnus & Alec met!! They really did that & it was really gay and i loved it. Alec's little smile & flustered ness around Magnus & "Pretty boy get your team ready" is iconic as fuck ok. Also we love a sassy badass bisexual- love how its so clear in the first ep he's in. Also the gayness from Alec is yesss. That taking Magnus's hand yess. And the Jace memory thingy- is Jace gonna bring that up?? Or is he just gonna ignore it forever?? Don't say btw lmao. "There's nothing to be ashamed of" yes Magnus a proud bi supporting a lil closeted boy. What else- sorry- im just squealing at the Malec in this ep- I'm gonna have to watch their introduction again bc Alec's smile. He's growing on me!! Ok- Magnus's magic I see you- holy shit when he moved the lair- incredible, beautiful & hot as fuck thank you. Simon, poor bby Simon is definitely a Vampire- like- the licking the blood thingy- noo bby. I feel bad for him with his unrequited love. Also yes to him for standing up for himself though! To "captain america" 😂😂. I thought it was some good acting when Simon was calling Clary and telling her he felt weird after the Vamp thing- and you could see his gaze linger on the picture as he was talking- or myb i just thought that lmao. What else hm- Valentine is just creepy as fuck. And Clary is getting on my nerves a lil- i know she wants to save her mum which is fair enough of course. I do appreciate her bravery though. The whatever it takes attitude- that hasn't extended into going off by herself yet which is good- probably bc of Jace though tbh. Reminds me a bit of the harry potter stance- 'ppl are dying bc of me let me do it all myself'. I liked Isabelle this ep- "its ok Alec" - supportive sister yess. Butterflies [Alec Lightwood x Reader]
Chapter One
“I’m so nervous,” you said to your sister Annabella. Your heart was pounding like a humming bird, your blood was in a racing competition with a cheetah, and your nerves were over the roof.
“[Name],” she said. “You will do amazing. Just like you practiced at home. Remember, imagine the audience are just all those stuffed animals, okay?”
Wait a minute - let me back up and explain what was happening. You were a student at the Salvatore Performing Arts Boarding School Academy. You were a junior at the school, but this was the first time you’d performed in the annual showcase.
Now, you took a deep breath and nodded your head, glancing up at the stage. “It’s now or never,” you said, half to yourself.
“You’re gonna do excellent. Just bet on it.” Annabella winked at you and rushed off to her seat in the front row. You took several more deep breaths - you even did Sharpay’s warm-up technique - before finally walking up the stage, where your band mates were waiting.
“Um, good evening, ladies and gentlemen,” you said nervously into the mic. “I’m [Name] [Surname], and this is my band, The Mortal Instruments.” You bit your lip and nodded your head at your three band mates. You took one more deep breath, closed your eyes, exhaled, then opened them again. You tapped your fingers to the intro of the song before singing, “Nothing is the same.. There’s a new world, calling my name.. I can’t escape this.”
You and your band performed two more songs - “Monsters” and “War of Hearts” - before ending your set and bowing. There was a bout of applause, and even some whoops and cheers. You exited the stage as calmly as you could and ran to sit down next to Annabella. “I can’t believe that just happened!”
“Believe it, baby sis,” Annabella said with a laugh. “You were amazing up there!”
You shook your head, obviously thinking your sister was wrong. “Whatever you say. Now I gotta go pee.” You got up and hurriedly walked up the aisle and down the hall where the bathrooms were located. All of a sudden, there was someone in front of you. “By the Angel!” On instinct, you dropped to your feet and swiped your leg across the floor, making the stranger fall on his back. You shot back up, breathing hard.
The stranger - you saw now that it was a male, with dark hair, and very tall - groaned and rolled onto his front side. He pushed himself off of the floor and glared at you. “Where’s Valentine?” He said through clenched teeth.
You scrunched your eyebrows together in confusion. “Who’s Valentine?” you asked, but you barely got out the question before a pair of arms wrapped around you. “Hey!” you exclaimed, squirming and trying to escape from the strong and firm grip.
You captor leaned down to your ear and threatened, “Stop squirming, or you won’t have the breath to even scream for the other Circle members.”
“Circle members?” you repeated, but because of the person’s harsh tone and the - glowing? - blade pressed against your throat, you stopped your wiggling.
The guy that you’d knocked down now had a bow and arrow at the ready, as if he were willing to let go of the arrow if you so much as breathed wrong.
In the blink of an eye - literally, you blinked, and once you opened your eyes again - you saw a horrifying-looking creature crawling up behind the dark-haired male. Before you even realized what you were doing, you raised your leg and kicked the arrow out of the guy’s hold, making it shoot up into the ceiling. You reared your elbow back into the guy behind you’s ribcage and swiped up the weapon he had been holding against your throat. Before either one of them could grab you again, you tumbled under the dark-haired male’s arm and slashed the creature with the weapon you’d snatched up.
What you’d just done didn’t register in your mind until the creature had vanished into ashes. You dropped the blade you’d been holding and collapsed against the wall, sliding down it. “What…just…happened…?” Your voice was shaky and uncontrollable sobs slipped from your mouth.
The two guys looked at each other, completely confused and like they didn’t know what to do. “Alec, Jace!” a feminine, independent-sounding voice called out.
“Did you see any more demons?” another, softer voice asked.
Demons? The rational, still-functioning part of your brain questioned what the girl said, but the rest of your body was too weak to fully rationalize anything. So instead, you brought your head up and looked at the four people that stood in front of you, studying their features.
The first one you studied was the guy whom you’d made fall. He was very tall, at least six inches taller than you, at least. His hair was a dark brown, so dark it almost looked black and could be mistaken for in certain lighting. He wasn’t exactly pale, but he was nowhere near tan. There was a bag of arrows hanging on his back, along with his bow.
The boy next to him was a few inches shorter, but his physique was more muscular. Whereas the taller boy had a slender build, this boy had a more athletic build, if you would. He also had short blonde hair, and from what you could see, light blue eyes. His blade was back in his hand; you assumed he’d picked it up after you’d slid down the wall.
Next was the first girl that had walked in, the one that had called the boys’ names. Alec and Jace. You didn’t know which boy was whom, but at least you knew their names. Anyways, back to the girl; she looked tall, for a female, or maybe that was just the height from her heels. She had tan skin, with long, dark hair, and dark-chocolaty eyes. Her lips were full and lump, and made up with a vibrant red.
Lastly, was the girl with bright orange hair. Her hair was so bright you wondered if it wasn’t natural. She was petite and pale. She looked a lot more scared and flustered than the other three people.
But what really got your attention was how they were dressed and the markings on their skin. They all had their own sense of style, but it was all black. The tall boy was wearing a black T-shirt, black jeans, an unzipped hooded leather jacket, and fingerless leather gloves. The blonde boy sported a skin-tight shirt, a sleeveless leather jacket - it looked more like a vest to you - with black jeans. The dark-haired girl was wearing a skin-tight, short black dress, with tights and heeled boots that looked to be at least seven inches tall. She didn’t have a leather jacket like the boys did, but she did have an accessory that looked like a snake curling around her wrist. And finally, the carrot top - instead of a black leather jacket, it was a dark maroon, and she had on a loose light-black, almost gray shirt, with black denim jeans and a black studded belt.
And then their markings - the black curling designs looked exactly like the ones you’d seen in your recurring dreams of the supernatural world. You’d also described markings like that in your writings.
“Who are you?” you finally asked, making the group of teenagers turn your way. “Is this some type of cult? Or gang? Is this where you kidnap me? Because if you are about to kidnap me, I’m going to warn you, my family will send out Amber Alerts and they will not stop looking for me until they find me, and then you all will wind up in jail, probably–”
“By the Angel,” the taller boy groaned. “Is it just a mundane thing to continuously talk and ramble on?”
“Hey, you say "By the Angel” too!“ you exclaimed, then scrunched your eyebrows together. "Wait, what do you mean, mundane?” You knew what the word meant, because you’d used it to describe a being with no magic or supernatural abilities whatsoever in the things you’d written and published on Quotev and Wattpad. But why was this guy calling you a mundane when he obviously was one, too? “Why do your tattoos look so familiar?”
The boy groaned again. “Why must you ask so many questions?”
“Alec,” the blonde boy said - whom you now knew was Jace. “We need to get her to the Institute.” The taller boy - Alec, you reminded yourself - gave Jace a look of disapproval. “She sees us.” You drew your eyebrows together. Of course you could see them. You weren’t blind. And what was the Institute? “And did you see her reflexes, the way she killed that Shax like it was her second nature?”
“Jace is right,” the ginger girl said, whom you still did not even know the possibility of her name.
“Of course you would think he’s right,” Alec scoffed, rolling his eyes. He’s too uptight, you thought.
“Alec,” the other girl said warningly.
“Don’t I get a say in this?” you piped up. “I can’t just leave, you know. Besides, what about my sister?”
The girl with the orange hair stepped in. “Why don’t we get both you and your sister home safe and sound, and then we work out the kinks later?”
You nodded, feeling yourself yawn and your eyes droop shut. “Okay,” you said and curled up in a ball against the wall. The last sound you heard was Alec’s groan of frustration, yet again.
Please let me know what you thought of this chapter. I would really love your feedback.
- xoxo, Ryleigh

How do you feel the world of Swtor would be if Lana Beniko was a Jedi and Theron Shan was an Imperial agent.
oh, man. that’s an interesting question!
i also rambled for about ten years so this got kinda long.
i guess the biggest question here is what the fresh hell is theron shan doing in the empire. i sort of want to handwave it but his connection to the jedi grandmaster is such a plot point that i am not sure that’s doable?
so, let’s assume for a moment that he’s not actually there on a mission for SIS and is for realsies a defector to the empire. i haven’t read any of the swtor extra-game novels/etc because i’m a terrific slacker (also i’ve read the extracts on amazon and those alone are enough to put me off) but wookiepedia says he’s been given at least one opportunity to defect so let’s spitball that he took one and go with that.
if he left Republic space and etc for good, i do not think he would keep the shan surname, at least not in his day to day existence, and certainly not if he were to join Imperial Intelligence (or whatever passes for it between the IA story and the end of SoR). tbqh it’s too much of a Massive Plot Clue as to his parentage in canon (yes there are likely thousands if not millions of other Shans in the gffa but lbr the Force moves in mysterious ways and we all know that any significant Shan is going to be related to that Shan).
I’m honestly having trouble trying to work out any scenario where he defects to the Empire and subsequently works as an active agent, though - he’s simply too well known to SIS to be anything more than a decoy, and both SIS and any Jedi who knew of his parentage would be out for his neck. this would apply just as much if Imp Intelligence decided to brainwash or mind control him.
this said, he’s (somehow) high enough in SIS and connected enough to the Jedi that the intelligence he could provide to the Empire would be beyond compare. he’d certainly be a great asset - essentially he’d be put up in a comfortable prison where he could be grilled at leisure.
the other possibility, of course, is that he becomes an Imperial propaganda project, rather than living life as a spy. Theron Shan, the illegitimate son of the Jedi Grandmaster, defected to the side of the Sith and the Empire. how can they possibly win when the Jedi Grandmaster’s own son sees the supremacy of the Sith. etc etc.
The upshot of that, of course, is that he ends up uninvolved with the Revanite debacle, at least as it unfolds in canon. it’s unlikely the Empire would allow him to become involved with the assault on Tython, as even if he /is/ a loyal defectee, the risk of him being turned or being a double agent in a ridiculously long game is far too great, and Sith are far too paranoid. It’s probable Arkous or another high-ish ranking Revanite might subtly sound him out about championing their cause - working on the theory that, well, this guy is descended from the Revan, so he’d totally be up for it,right?
(and then it blows up in their face, because while Theron is descended from the Revan, he’s also conflicted enough about said heritage that it’s far from a point of pride. and, well, I think even defector!Theron would be hesitant to get on board with any plan that involves reserrecting the Sith Emperor.)
although now i’m just picturing a train of events where trophy!defector!Theron plays along with the Revanites for long enough to get their gameplan from them, by which point he’s already in pretty deep and Imp Intelligence as an agency is a distant memory, but then when he accompanies Darth Arkous to Manaan and stays up on the surface to monitor things remotely he runs into this unusally pragmatic blonde Jedi-
(this particular Theron would also have a much better idea of what the Revanites were up to - essentially, Rishi and everything in, on, and around it become irrelevant. the battle can be prevented pre-emptively, but that would not, I suspect, put the Revanites off. If anything, they’d be as likely to find some way to get the Empire and Republic to unwittingly assist Revan in the ritual itself. and of course, top of the ‘to sacrifice’ list would be a certain Shan…)
of course, this would then mean an even more awkward family reunion when Satele and Marr catch up with the Revanites on Rishi or Yavin IV. however, I’m all about awkward Shan family reunions, so this is not a negative.
-
alternative theory: the Empire get their hands on him, somehow, as a young child - unaware of his origins. he’s raised a loyal Imperial citizen by loyal Imperial parents and etc.
the thing is that, as I said, Theron Shan is a spectacularly bad spy, and not just because he slouches around the gffa telling everyone his real name and having public holo conversations with his semi-estranged mother. whether SIS tolerated his terrible aptitude because of his parentage or just low quality writing I cannot say, but I can’t see Imperial Intelligence allowing such slack.
so, we’ll assume then that theron actually becomes a competent spy in the Empire. who, naturally, is not known as theron shan because that would be far too much of a giveaway.
does he become involved in the Revanite mess? i suspect any Revanites in the Empire who become aware of his heritage may try to turn him to their cause, though I suspect if they did so while revealing his past and heritage it would likely blow up in their (and the Empire’s) faces. the Force works in mysterious and mostly plot-related ways so it’s likely he’d end up involved somehow.
alternative sub-theory: the Empire get their hands on him, somehow, as a young child - aware of his origins. he’s raised a loyal Imperial citizen by loyal Imperial parents and etc. tl;dr the Empire keeps him ‘safe’ for use against satele/jace at some inopportune moment. i don’t really have much to add to this other than if he became aware of a) his heritage and b) the plan to use him as a hostage it would seriously sour him on the Empire at the very least.
-
Lana… Lana Lana Lana. Lana is a better spy than Shan, but that’s a low bar to clear. She actually doesn’t start off in Intelligence at all, but in Military Offense, as Arkous’s gofer. Jedi, by contrast, actively un-involve themselves in the Republic hierarchy - Saresh has a pet project to get Jedi in the military (per the… EC mission, i think?) but it’s very much a small scale project.
Her humility would actually serve her better as a Jedi than a Sith, and she already has ‘not being ruled by her emotions’ pretty much down pat. For all her DS corruption, all we actually see that differentiates her from most Jedi in the game is the occasional gratuitous murder of defenseless Zakuul knights or tactically terrible advocation of throwing of Mandolorians under Skytrooper-shaped buses. Yeah she dunks on democracy on Ziost, but remember she’s spent her life in the Empire, which would shape her opinions appropriately.
Some of it would depend on whether she was Republic-born-and-raised, or if she defected for some reason. She’s terrifically loyal to the Empire, and it’s made clear that while she has little time for the usual Sith waste and indulgence, she’s also perfectly okay with the casual crimes against its non-sensitive populace that take place in the Empire. The circumstances of her leaving the Empire in KotFE are never gone into, but she can be berated into resigning after Ziost, and Sith are not known for giving second chances. Regardless, it would take something particular to make her not just leave the Empire, but to become a Jedi. Not necessarily a Tragic Plot Point of some description - rather, the sort of deep and personal change that takes time and pain, and even then I suspect she would be more likely to go her own way rather than walk the Jedi path.
So, assuming she was born and raised in the Republic, or brought to the Republic/Jedi at a young age, I feel like Lana would be a fairly moderate Jedi. She wouldn’t be a hothead like Kaedan or his ilk - even as a Sith she is generally level-headed and thoughtful. But she wouldn’t be content to sit up a mountain on Tython and meditate the war away, either - she’d want to be out in the real world, making a difference.
At the same time, she would be extremely practical and pragmatic, not averse to working alongside similarly-minded Sith and Imperials if there is some greater issue at hand that requires a solution. She’d be the Jedi who is more concerned with preventing the bomb that risks the whole building than the locked door that risks three people, and would gladly make deals with the enemy if it meant saving lives. She’d approve of Saresh’s policies - not because Saresh is a warmonger (she’s not, and i will fight anyone who tries to argue otherwise) but because she recognises the threat that the Empire poses, and accepts that sometimes ugly things need to be done in order to secure a better future.
i think that there’s a likelihood she would become involved in the Revanite mess, at the very least as someone looking at the mess that Tython was left in and trying to work out what the fresh hell just happened. Lana has a keen analytical mind, and she’d work out quickly that something was capital-u Up.
tl;dr
Lana is a pragmatic but generally LS Jedi, fairly moderate, critical of the Republic’s failings but generally loyal to its aims. Ends up tracking down the Revanites to Manaan etc.
Theron Shan remains the centre of a swirling maelstrom of Shan-related drama.
