saw the trailer for the "new" Queer as Folk and they're not even...not even trying to retell the story of QaF for modern times? its a totally 100% different story and it's like... okay why bother with the name? like just do your own name, fans of QaF (who would like an updated version any ways) aren't just gonna watch a thing with the same name and no other connection?

I've not seen anything myself but some mutuals of mine were posting about the writer doing an interview where he said it wasn't based on Queer As Folk it was gonna be based on something else. When I first heard about it I did think it was gonna be a reboot because that's what it was pitched as so I anticipated similar storylines maybe not exactly but have elements to either the original version or the american one.

I guess they used the name to garner publicity for the new show because of the popularity and legacy attached to it. You say Queer As Folk the majority of people interested in LGBTQIA+ media are likely to have heard of it if not watched it they probably hoped these same fans would be interested in their version. Which is a popular advertising technique so I'm not surprised they did it. At most the media reporting about it are getting get the news out there to more people by using that name.

To be fair it will probably go both ways as the mutuals of mine are still interested in watching it even if it's not got a direct association beyond the name. But I do agree they probably should've just come up with their own seeing as it's an entirely new show. And the QAF fans who thought it was a updated version won't tune in and if they were pinning their hopes on the entire fanbase watching because of the name they were mistaken.
